Wanted in Rihland: Reclaimers
« on: Sep 01, 17, 08:26:36 PM »
The Reclaimers are a Rihlander resistance movement, with a specific goal of deposing Kalvar Elbremov and countering Eyrien influence on the Territory. They work to destabilize the Eyrien regime by destroying food delivery and waylaying agents of Eyrien-controlled Courts. This information is acquired via well-placed spies. Their leader is Melany Kriemhild, one of the few remaining skalds (storyteller-historians) in Rihland. Kalvar Elbremov's Purge of the Territory Court has opened plenty of holes where a Reclaimer agent might be placed, and I'd love to hear pitches for existing characters joining up as well as new characters being created for the cause!

There is just one restriction on Reclaimer concepts: No winged Eyrien may be a Reclaimer agent. Mixed-blood characters are allowed, provided they have no wings and have a backstory supporting why Eyrienphobic Melany would permit them to join up; but winged characters will likely not be trusted with high placements as agents, and are more likely to be contacts for full agents.

An important thing to note about the Reclaimers is that while they have grown out of the Exchange, they have distanced themselves from it as the Exchange became more corrupt and focused on money than resistance for the sake of their culture. Profiteering on the oppression of the Rihlanders is looked down upon, but having connections to the exchange is not at all a disqualified. To that end, it should be noted that the Reclaimers as a group don't have a "home base" and are actually a fairly new group, less than a decade old, and most Reclaimers in places of high power would have acquired these positions when Kalvar came to power, so about ~2 years ago.

CLAIMED BY LENE!!!!!

The High Healer of the Court at Ebon Varos is a Reclaimer agent from way back. She has been part of the organization since old times, but has--at Melany's request--been working with Eyrien-controlled Courts for at least that long. It's this Court polish that makes her utterly invaluable to the Reclaimers. When work needs to be done with a Court, the High Healer is often called upon to finesse whatever action it is, and her advice is never ignored. After Melany, the High Healer is probably one of the more influential Reclaimers.

Her high position in the Territory Court means that her participation in the Reclaimers is a tightly-guarded secret. Though she and Melany are close, they never meet in public places, as Melany isn't quiet about her opposition to the current regime. The High Healer attends moots and keeps Rihlander traditions, but lives a difficult double-life that other Reclaimers might not quite understand.

The High Healer can wear any Jewels, and is a full-blooded Rihlander.

The District Queen of Scythia is a recent Reclaimer agent. She grew up under the thumb of the Eyrien regime until Kirian Svetlana destroyed Drakkar Eventide's Court, at which point she escaped to the Exchange in the chaos. There, she fell into Reclaimer circles out of a desire to reconnect with the heritage that was stolen from her. When Gudrun stepped up to become Queen of Vyrkov Province, the High Healer spoke for the District Queen and secured the her place in Scythia. She has support from Reclaimers in her First Circle, and works relatively closely with Melany when coordinating moots and other Rihlander traditions. Like the High Healer, the District Queen of Scythia cannot be open about her allegiances, and must live a double life.

As the only Reclaimer Queen, the District Queen is incredibly important to Melany, who looks at her as something of a protege. In turn, the District Queen is learning the Rihlander-specific rituals for which a Queen is responsible from Melany.

The District Queen can wear any Jewels and is a full-blooded Rihlander. She is the only active Queen among the Reclaimers, though there are Reclaimer sympathizers among the Rihlander Queens and other Queens can certainly join up.

The Strategist is a young Black Widow, just past her Offering, who has grown up in the Exchange. For whatever reason, she has chosen to leave that life behind and join the Reclaimers. Before Melany makes any major moves, she consults the Strategist; the Strategist is also responsible for watching for threats to any major Reclaimer agents, such as the High Healer or the District Queen of Scythia. She is close to Melany and Sasha, considering them to be her older sisters.

The Strategist was the daughter of a Rihlander skald, but isn't one herself. Her skald parent crossed the Prohibitions one too many times, and is either dead or locked inside their own mind by the Black Widows that work in the prison towns. This was the inciting moment that drew the Black Widow to Melany's Reclaimer movement.

The Strategist is either very recently post-Offering or very soon to make it, and should preferably be at least Birthright Summer-sky (to better meld with Melany and Sasha). She is full Rihlander.

The Apprentice is a Rihlander male who Melany has taken on as her apprentice. Born and raised in Vyrkov, but outside the exchange, the Apprentice had a bad encounter with the Eyriens due to the Prohhibitions and found his way to the Exchange when he was older. From there, he found Melany, and managed to impress her enough that she agreed to take him on as an apprentice. He's been training as a skald for three or four years.

Aside from his lessons with Melany, he also serves in the First Circle of Gudrun Jollenbeck's Court. He takes what he learns from Melany and teaches it to Gudrun, and in exchange Gudrun offers discreet support to the Rihlanders in defiance of Kalvar. As he serves in an exposed position, the Apprentice cannot be obvious about his Reclaimer membership; however, it's not as vital for him as it is for the District Queen or the High Healer, and he has a great deal more flexibility of movement.

The Apprentice is a full-blooded Rihlander and can be any Caste or Jewel strength, though a descent of at least Rose is preferred.

CLAIMED BY PHEPHE

The Runner is a Rihlander businessman. Born in Vyrkov, his family moved house to Little Terreille just after his Birthright. He keeps his head up and his nose clean, but his business--based in Little Terreille and therefore sandwiched between two Blacks--gives him a voice that cannot be ignored in the upper echelons of the Reclaimers. If marks are needed, the Runner supplies them. Since he bankrolls the project, the only person who can directly overrule him is Melany. Even then, she often doesn't, because in addition to being great at making money, he's a Warlord Prince. His Caste strengths shore up any weaknesses left over from Melany,
Sasha, and the Black Widow's passes at any plan of action.

His third duty, and arguably his most important, is carrying messages between the far-flung agents of the Reclaimers. Being a businessman gives him access to more than one Court, reasons to speak to Stewards and High Healers alike, and he's more than happy to spread the word.

The Runner is a Warlord Prince, and is either Rihlander fully or another short-lived mix. Any Jewels welcome. :P

The Plant is a winged half-Eyrien in the hunting camps. He serves the Reclaimers by making them aware of when and where they can intercept deliveries of food and other goods bound to the hunting camps. He works as an administrator there, as his superiors seem to feel his Rihlander blood makes him untrustworthy in battle.

His Rihlander parent resisted sending him to the hunting camps, but his Eyrien parent insisted, despite knowing the welcome he would likely receive there. Due to being rejected by many of his peers, he developed a drug problem that brought him to the Exchange. He became aware of the Reclaimers fairly early on, but didn't become part of them until he was approached by Melany herself. In exchange for helping him with his addiction, he would feed information to the Reclaimers, enabling them to cripple at least parts of the Eyrien machine.

The Plant's Eyrien parent is an active member of the Exchange and worked with the Runner's parents to bring illicit substances through the border. The Plant was therefore already familiar with Ryder, and often brought Ryder over the closed Rihlander border in his father's place.

The Plant is half-Eyrien, and can wear any Jewels and be of any Caste.
