Distinguishing Features:

Sharp eyes. Strong jaw. Smooth skin.

Personality

Personality:

Kord is a passionate man who leashes his sharp desires and appetites to move between social circles with frightening ease. He’s the consummate gentleman and courtier whose work ethic has put him ahead of men twice his age. He’s a devious politico, devoted to increasing his personal power while shielding himself with Protocol and a pleasing demeanor. When he has to fight, he's vicious and surgical, trimming away his opponents’ defenses until they’re exposed for the killing blow. He enjoys planning out an opponents’ downfall while smiling and reassuring them that he has their back.

Tacea suits him better than he expected.

Privately, Kord is a devoted and protective husband to his wife Lyudmila, often serving as a test subject and first-choice escort. He trusts her judgment and skill, which often informs his own plans and ideas. He’s a more pious man in recent years because of her, his respect for Priestesses even stronger because of the Decimation. His loyalty to Mila is absolute and he is confident of her loyalty to him.

Poetry and fashion are his favorite hobbies. At his core, he's an old soul trapped in a young man's body. Precise language and tailored clothing nurture his creativity. He loves clean lines, bright spaces, and having his personal effects and spaces arranged and aligned to the millimeter. He reads at least an hour of poetry each day, crediting it for making him a better writer and speaker. He’s married into the aristocracy and shaped himself into a man of the times in pursuit of his grandest design:

Becoming the greatest statesman that Dena Nehele has ever produced.

Likes:

  • 1. Black Immortal: This holy place was one of the first that Kord saw upon arriving in Tacea and it has arrested his thoughts ever since. While it saddens him that there are places within where males aren't permitted, he still wants to travel there and pray at least once. The memory crystals he could make are worth the trip.

  • 2. Fashion: Kord is an absolute clotheshorse. He loves silks and bold colors that most people would shy away from. He loves sharp lines and accessories to personalize an outfit. When he must wear more traditional colors and styles, he’ll usually select a hat or necklace to add a splash of color to his outfits. Marrying into an Aristo family gives him the money to do it and he's not giving it up for anyone.

  • 3. Poetry: Poetry is Kord’s second love. Reading in the morning is a “second breakfast’’ for his mind, while reading at night with a glass of scotch in hand helps him reflect on his day. His most prized gift is a collection of Hayllian poetry from his wife, given to him on their second anniversary. He knows that he'll be long dead before he memorizes them all, but that won't stop him from trying.

    Dislikes:

  • 1. Cheap Furniture: Kord’s father was a craftsman by trade and spent long hours making fine quality decor because he loved the work. While those skills never passed to Kord, he appreciates custom-made dining room sets, intricate woodwork, and good glass. It galls him when he enters homes where the furniture looks like it was purchased piecemeal or simply thrown together without thought to colors, shapes, or space.

  • 2. Treatment of Males in Tacea: Kord's work ethic made him stand out in Dena Nehele, but it's simply expected of him in Tacea. He's expected to defer to his wife in all things and simply be a respectable escort to her unless asked to do otherwise. He didn't come here to sit back and look pretty. He came here to represent Dena Nehele to the best of his ability...and it might be time to set an example for the men of this land about what they're capable of.

  • 3. The Male Cipher: Kord's poor handwriting once cost his father 900 marks. He's practiced for nearly two decades to improve his handwriting to its current neat and precise style. The shorthand cipher used by males in Tacea is practically indecipherable to him and he hates it. Attempting to communicate with it has lead to a pile of crumpled pages across his desk, and frustrations that he's failing at his job.

    Fears:

  • 1. Burning to Death: He heard from a traveler about the damage done to the capital of Shalador by a volcano a couple of years ago...and Taceans live near active ones?  It's said that the heat of the lava burns you to death long before it touches your skin. Kord hopes he never has to find out.

  • 2. Loss of mental acuity: Kord prides himself on his intelligence and his analytical mind. He’s young, but the idea of losing his touch or overlooking things as he gets older worries him. He reads poetry, engages in rigorous reading and writing schedule, and has developed a series of memory exercises so that he recalls information with the least effort possible.

  • 3. Loss of His Position: There was a time in Kord’s life when he didn’t know where his next meal was coming from, when his clothing had to be mended, and when he had to go without to make sure that his family had what they needed. Now he’s the Ambassador to Tacea. He must prove that he belongs here, because returning to Dena Nehele means facing people that he never expects to see again. They’ll know that he wasn’t equal to the task and Kord can't abide being seen as a failure at anything.

    Craft Strengths:

  • 1. Diplomacy: Kord blends flawlessly into other cultures. Where most foreigners take years or decades to learn the nuances and societal cues of a place, Kord's Craft shortens his learning time to just a few minutes of observation and conversation. The ability to ease the minds of natives helps him build the relationships needed to increase his influence, no matter where he goes.

  • 2. Voice Manipulation: Kord’s voice is smoother than aged bourbon and the finest wine combined, but this Craft makes his words impossible to ignore. Eloquent and lyrical, more than one person has indicated that they’d listen to him read a stack of letters and contracts all day long just to listen to him speak. He never mispronounces or butchers a name, making every person he speaks to feel like the most important person in their conversations.

    Craft Weaknesses:

  • 1. Physical Enhancement: Kord enjoys testing his physical abilities against others, but he does so with his natural talent. Attempts to use this Craft drain his jewels faster than usual. Kord would rather win on his own merits, anyway.

  • 2. Clothing Spells: Kord spends extra money on tailored suits because he can't enchant them to repel dirt, lint or stains. The inability to perform such basic Craft irritates him, even as he spends more money on clothes than most males.

Stanimir Kozlov - Summer Sky to Purple Dusk Warlord (b. 164, age 30)

Akino Yoshida- Yellow to Rose Priestess (b. 160, age 34)
Asami no Izayoi  - Tiger Eye to Summer Sky Prince (b. 164, age 30)

    History:

Kord Civenu was born to Prince Jevin Bellard and Carina Civenu in the Alsa District of Dena Nehele. His father emigrated to Terreille from Kaeleer to escape a bad life in that realm. Arriving with little money and no prospects, he turned his skill in woodworking toward making high-end pieces for the wealthy in Raej. Earning enough money to leave Raej, he eventually settled in the Alsa District of Dena Nehele. Jevin started a woodworking business, selling custom furniture to the aristos of the area. Three years after his arrival he met Carina Civenu, a young witch skilled  in glass-making. Combining their talents, the pair acquired a modest income. They also fell in love through their shared interests in beautiful things.

Kord was a precocious child, always asking questions and utterly curious about the world around him. He liked the physical labor of wood carving, but found himself entranced by the mental work needed to keep the family business running. He found sketches and designs of buildings from Raej and Little Terreille among his father’s possessions, sparking a desire to travel the realm. He earned the Rose at his Birthright Ceremony and his mother gifted him a book of poetry given to her by her own father. The descriptive language in those poems drew the young man into carving some of his favorite poems onto wooden tablets for display in the family’s home.

Kord learned the rudiments of his Caste from his father, who expected him to take up the family business. The family made a comfortable living and Kord was able to save his money as part of a plan to travel to Chaillot. At 20, he received the Summer Sky and left for his trip with his parents’ blessing.

His time in Chaillot opened his eyes to culture, food, and art unavailable in Dena Nehele. Returning home, Kord’s mind buzzed with ideas on how to expand the business even further and allow them to climb society’s ranks. This sat poorly with Jevin, whose flight from Little Terreille involved aristos who’d ruined his family. Kord wouldn’t be swayed, however, and he advertised Civenu Furnishings wherever he could, hoping to draw the notice of the very people capable of paying for the high-end pieces this family made.

The commission from the Viktorov family changed his life. The eldest daughter, Lyudmila, was rumored to be cold and unapproachable, but many men sought her hand. A chance delivery to the estate brought him face-to-face with the Black Widow Priestess and they spent the day talking and laughing. Thinking he’d never see her again, Kord was surprised when he encountered her three more times that week. Her suitors were richer and better-connected. They came from families rooted in Dena Nehele’s soil. But Kord knew her favorite color, the way she liked her coffee, and how to make her laugh. They shared the same jewels.

He won her over before he realized he was even in competition.

Lyudmila’s family was concerned (read: vehemently opposed) to her marrying outside the aristo class. Kord’s father worried that the aristos would destroy their business if things shifted. Presenting a united front, Kord explained in deep detail how the union benefited both of their families. Neither side was thrilled but he didn’t really care. They were married the following year and Kord received an entrance to the halls of power that he’d always dreamed of. The right whispers in the right ears found Kord serving in the District Court by the end of their first year of marriage. Two years later, he’d worked his way into the Third Circle of the Province Court under Catina Cosma. Between his political acumen and Mila’s ability to locate hidden information on their rivals, Kord’s star continued to rise.

The Decimation nearly destroyed their plans.

Mila suggested they skip Vitali Atreiades’s party and Kord did something that rankled most men: he listened to his wife. They awoke to a Territory far different to the one they’d gone to sleep in. Kord’s parents died outright. Lady Cosma was missing and the Province was in tatters. By the time Lady Graveworthy came to power, Kord had been invited to serve at the Territory Court in the Office of the Steward, Jeremiah Mercer. Kord negotiated a few small contracts and general maintained positive relations with everyone he encountered. When the Territory Court required an ambassador to Tacea, a realm that had only just reappeared in Terreille after a century plus of hiding, Kord learned he was on the short list of people being considered for the position. Mila told him to accept the offer when it came, and he was selected by Lady Roman herself.

Rather than remain in a Territory that could explode again without warning, Kord sees Tacea as his chance to honor his parents and create a legacy that he knows is his right.

He just has to survive a land of dragons to do it.

    Character in Play:

Kord was born to parents who emigrated from Little Terreille and spent several years in Raej prior to immigrating to Dena Nehele. He learned later in life that his parents had been slaves for a time before working off their debt.

Take the offer when it’s made.

Kord reflected on his wife’s words as he sat in Lady Roman’s office, hands clasped in his lap, while she reviewed the papers on her desk. The Queen-in-Proxy was young, but Kord hadn’t realized just how much until he sat across from her. She was beautiful, intelligent, and she asked sharp questions. Kord held no grudge against her for her long-lived blood, even if he couldn’t imagine what it would mean to live for over two-thousand years. Given enough time and patience, she could shape Dena Nehele into whatever she wanted.

Prince Viktorov, I have a list strong candidates for this ambassadorship. Why should I choose you to represent Dena Nehele in Tacea?

Kord smiled. The bluff was a clever one, but a bluff all the same. Kord knew this because, of the six people who could possibly fill this position (including himself), one had a child who was currently ill. Two others had gambling debts that would make them susceptible to undue influence, which Prince Mercer would already know, and Lady Armistead was unmarried and seemed right at home being the Steward’s favorite bean-counter.

The final candidate, a fellow Prince, had recently been caught up in some Court scandal that damaged a group of Tulzbrujan aristos. Kord wasn’t just the best candidate for the job, he was the only candidate for the duty. He was young, married to a strong and well-connected member of the Coven and the Conclave, and he was the only candidate without deep ties to the Territory Court. He’d been brought in to replace Prince Plesca after that man had been removed from his position in the Third Circle for failure to execute his duties. Kord hadn’t failed at any assignment that Prince Mercer tasked him with yet, something that the Queen-in-Proxy likely knew as well. But she wanted this to be her decision, rather than simply accepting the suggestion of a man who raised her.

    Kord respected that.

Lady Roman, I could tell you about my work ethic but I’m sure Prince Mercer has filled you in. I could attempt to make myself look better by bringing up the faults of my competitors, but that says the wrong things about me.” Kord said, calling gently upon his Summer Sky to lend his voice a deep tenor tone that straddled the line between tenor and bass. The Rose Queen sat up a little straighter, and Kord looked directly into her green-gold eyes.

What sets me apart from your other candidates is that I’ve had a standing tea appointment with Lord Shingetsu three times a week since shortly after my arrival from Alsa. He’s the ambassador to Raej, yes, but he's educated me about the differences between Tacea and Dena Nehele at length. He regaled me with many tales about the Starred City, the Four Great Clans, and even a little bit about the Tang and the Hanwa. I'm confident that none of the other candidates know as much about Tacea as I do.” Kord said.

He leaned back in his chair.

We can’t afford to send someone who will embarrass us and damage our relations even further. I will represent Dena Nehele at the highest level and I’m ready to start immediately if I'm selected.” Kord said, looking between the Black Widow Warlord Prince and Proxy Queen.

The real question is...can we afford to wait any longer to start that work?

Lady Roman looked to Prince Mercer.

Take the offer when it’s made.

That's settled then. Welcome to the team, Ambassador Viktorov.

Kord smiled. “It’s great to be here.
