Appearance

Play By: Courtney Jane Eaton
Distinguishing Features:
The first thing one would notice about Rehema lies in her classic beauty and lovely cheekbones that sweep up to her temples giving her an intensely sultry look when she seeks to apply it. She has a timid smile that threatens to burst into a grin.  She is a woman who does not recognize her own beauty though it is not suffered by others.

Personality

Personality:

Rehema suffers from a classic middle child syndrome. Not being alone in it hadn't helped. She often feels overlooked by her kin as she is considered steady and reliable in a family of stars, monsters and babes. Nailah is successful and socially graced, Theoris charming and enterprising, Masika is angry and rebellious and Kontar is the youngest in a brood of squabbling sisters so he is more than often indulged. Being a twin, it has been a struggle to differentiate herself from her beloved sister as they are identical in nearly every physical way. She loves Masika and shares a bond with her that is bolstered by the Darkness. This does not make them alike in every aspect though and while Rehema encourages their individuality Masika resents them all the more.

Kind and generous with her time and skill, Rehema was born to be a Healer and blessed by Mother Night she embraced her calling fully. She enjoys making people whole again and relieving pain. Though she can be introverted around new faces, she does not shy away from strangers though she is unlikely to engage in idle banter unless properly introduced by a trusted source. Selfless with her healing Rehema has strained the edges of her Well of Power in the past to help the sick and injured, willing to run into the fray at any given time she often requires an escort to keep her grounded and not strain her Jewels. She hates bullies and advocates fiercely for the defenseless.

Though she tries to work on it Rehema can be as judgmental as her sister Masika. She struggles to not weigh a person's merits on their first interactions and instead look for the best in everyone. This can be difficult for her and she will avoid contact with anyone who she thinks will inevitably stoke her rage. Unlike her sister, Rehema has the ability to forgive easily though she is influenced by the moods of those around her especially those who she loves dearly. This has caused her family to group her in completely with her twin firmly setting her in a position she does not wish to be.

Though she has not been a patron in the Red Moon House that her sister Theoris owns she believes that Blood are healthier because they give into their basic needs and such places can have therapeutic effects on the spirit and mind. For Rehema there are very many forms of healing and she is proud of her sister for carrying on a different vein of that work.

There is a special place in her heart for children and while Rehema hopes to one day be a mother she knows now is not the time.  Nailah’s twin boys captivate Rehema as she finds their innocence enchanting. Being unable to spend much time with her nephews deeply wounds her and she will often find an excuse to visit them, even if she must face risk facing Nailah and the rift that bleeds into their family.

Likes:
1. Kontar- Out of all her siblings Kontar was the only male, the baby, and the overall favorite. Over the years he has grown into a good man and perhaps the last link some of the sisters still share. Kontar is the heart of the Abassi family. Though he has chosen to serve their sister Nailah, he has always kept in touch, even when friction between sisters threatens to tear them apart. Kontar holds a special place in Rehema’s heart and like with some of her other sisters, they find it hard to deny him.

2. Being Useful- As a twin, very little initially set her apart from her sister Masika. In order to distinguish herself from her otherwise overbearing sibling, Rehema found that the best way to keep from being forgotten was to stay relevant. Out of the two Rehema was always the dutiful, thoughtful twin insisting on lending a hand and taking the brunt of responsibility on herself. She enjoys staying busy as it gives her a sense of fulfillment and belonging she otherwise lacks.

3. Sewing/Knitting- Rehema is not one to keep idle. As a child, her mother taught her and her sister to knit and sew garments which would kept her their minds and hands occupied with repetitive movements. Her twin never took to it, finding sewing far to monotonous and boring for her tastes. However,  having always been drawn to broken things may it be people or garments, Rehema finds joy in mending to make them whole again, or maybe even better than when they started. Rehema loves the precision that comes with the work, finding it soothing and a time when she can truly reflect.

Dislikes:
1. Familial Disputes- Arguments rarely solve anything. Its only through open communication that bridges can be mended. However no disputes are more volatile and ugly than those held within a familial arena.  Participants rarely fight fair and all it leads to is a lot of screaming, accusations and often times tears. A family should be a safe haven, and yet it is often the most potent source of heartache. Rehema feels she is most affected by this, especially since she's often forced to either chose sides or take collateral damage in the middle.

2. Public Attention- Rehema is not one who likes being in front and center. While not necessarily shy, she is rather private person and would rather be left alone than thrust in a situation where she must speak in front of a large group of people or be honored publically for any particular achievement. Public attention makes her nervous and that triggers her anxiety.

3. Slavery- There is no lazier or crueler tool of economic growth than slavery. People are not commodities and should not be used for the pleasure of those who think themselves better. Though a fine is placed on masters who abuse their slaves, it is not often reported and when it is, more often than not  incurs the wrath of the abuser. Rehema has been sent to many homes and offered payment for her silence in order to heal slaves who have been brutally beaten by those who are supposed to be their caretakers. Rehema hopes for a day when someone sets fire to the slave markets and Raej’s proud people will be without this stain on their society.

Fears:
1. Masika- Rehema loves her twin sister. Having shared a womb, they have been together since creation. While they are similar in so many ways, they differ in one key aspect, Masika is angry. So much so that Rehema is starting to notice how she enjoys holding onto her rage against those she feels slighted by. Each time Masika tries to drag her along into the well of that ire Rehema fears she will lose all matter of reasoning and get caught up in her conflicts. Rehema fears the way that Masika turns on her so she tries to placate her as often as she can.

2. Implosions in her family- Things get worse between the Abassi’s as the days go by and soon it may come to a head with each sibling cast to the winds.  Though the majority of the strife lays on the shoulders of Naillah and Masika, Rehema cannot help but stand by her twin sister’s side, though she hopes to temper her while the others consider them a single minded unit. Soon all ties will be cut, Nailah will fade into the spotlight and Kontar will have to take sides against Masika’s rage. Rehema fears the day when their bonds are finally severed and even she can't bring them back together.

3. Anxiety- Her heart races, pulse beating against her ears, the cold sweat that prickles against her skin, the sensation of being out of control is an almost out of body experience.  Her anxiety has increased recently since the murder of her brother-in-law though she thinks it has always been an issue but in a less noticeable form. Perhaps it has been a demon thats walked with her all along, only now making itself so visibly known.  When Rehema has an anxiety attack panic quickly follows. For someone who tries to be strong for those around her, stress and pressure can make her crumble like a wall of dried sand.

Strengths:
1. Mending Flesh- She has a steady hand and even her Craft based surgeries come together in this skill. Whether it be cuts, internal bleeding or reconstruction of soft tissue Rehema’s strength is finding where the blood loss or hemorrhaging is occurring, and stopping it with Craft while her hands work on mending the frayed or punctured tissues within. This split focus makes her a highly skilled surgeon. As such she can leave little to no scarring by the time her work is complete.

2. Curing/Identifying Poisons- Rehema can analyze and detect poisons and toxins both purposefully administered or built up within a victim over time, which allows her to diagnose, treat or remove these harmful elements from the body depending on its strength.  Rehema knows what symptoms to look for and how the body reacts to a wide array of poisons to form a diagnoses and treat it accordingly.  She has become so adept at identifying just how large a dose is harmful  that she can utilize smaller doses for therapeutic effects such as dulling pain in her patients.

Craft Weaknesses:
1. Witchfire- The use of this fundamental Craft is lost in Rehema. As aggravating as it is she has a terrible time creating even a respectable source of Witchfire flame. She blames it on a discomfort with fire and a lack of practice.  When she attempts to use the Craft, a white flare will appear and burn out almost immediately. Due to this she uses candles and  non magical lamps or be forced to sit in the dark.

2. Telekinetic Craft- Having a smaller well of power to draw upon, Rehema does not use her on Craft for many small tasks. As such she prefers to pick items up and move them around as needed instead of relying on a rather unreliable form of Craft to ensure she gets what she needs. Due to this her Telekinetic Craft is unrefined and so week she cannot pick up any objects heavier than a pencil.

Brother:  Kontar Abbasi-Summer Sky to Purple Dusk Warlord (Born 166 AP) (Played by Gavin)

History:

Rashida and Baahir Abbasi were always meant to be. In order to share their love with the world, they decided to partially populate it with as many blessings as they could. The Darkness gave them five beautiful, unique children who they claimed to love equally.  To this day Rehema believes that.

Technically Rehema was the fourth child to be born into the Abassi brood, her twin sister having rushed to the finish line 3 minutes before her and not letting her live it down to this day. She can't say how much wisdom was imbued in Masika in those few short minutes of fresh air, but if one were to ask her she had tapped into an endless wellspring of which Rehema would only wade.

Though the eldest of the Abassi’s was the first to ascend her Offering and emerge with Jewels and this was a great benediction to the family it skipped two others before occurring again. Two women-- girls in the same generation-- emerged with their Jewels, one Dark and one Light, and neither less blessed in their parents eyes. It was perfectly obvious that Rehema would inevitably become a Healer which was rare and prized. There was not a day that she was not washing a scrape, or soothing a boo-boo, she cared for her family in the smallest ways she was capable of making sure each was hale and content.

In order to nurture her gifts Rehema was was placed under the tutelage of an older, experienced Healer named Nani Rajanek who taught her how to mend flesh far beyond simple stitchings and how to recognize signs of poisoning. Rehema absorbed her studies, fascinated by being able to fix broken bodies and ease the pain and suffering in others. Perhaps she threw herself into her studies to further avoid her own discomfort at the hands of her sisters. Nailah the eldest had always been favored by Mother Night, so much so that her twin sister Masika grew to resent her for every success. Where she did not do the same for Rehema, she was bitter about her lack of Jewels though she was rue to admit it out loud. Sika confessed that she felt Nailah had done nothing to earn all she was given, and there is where the seed of their dysfunction began.  While her sisters bickered endlessly and more often over the asinine things Rehema was used as a shield for Sika’s emotional outbursts, trying in her own way to bring them together.

The rift between her sisters only festered further, despite her efforts. She could not take away Masika’s rage or Nailah’s pain.  Instead she focused on what aid she could give, all at once leaving her siblings to sort it out on their own. Only Theoris gave her a sense of comfort for a time, until eventially lines were drawn and words that could not be taken back delivered the final blow. She could not help but feel that Priestess Maila’s influence over Nailah had expedited the disconnect of their family.  It was about this time when Rehema became far more anxious. She was always a sensitive child, bore down by pressures she should have no claim to and often times that culminated into emotional episodes that left her exhausted, strained and depressed. For the longest time she thought she had it under control until the attempted assassination on Nailah which left the father of her children dead. As much as she wanted to go to her sister at that moment, her loyalty to Masika was an anchor she would always regret.  After that her anxiety became worse, and to this day flares up randomly.

Rehema worked as a temple Healer for many years until just after her Offering. It was a joyous day save for the obvious tension in the room between her sisters. The Darkness had seen fit to grace her with a Purple Dusk Jewel. Even young Kontar was here clapping merrily just for her.  Masika always had a way of encouraging and demoralizing her sister. It was a way to keep her close, but Rehema loved her dearly, they were but one spirit split in two and instead of fighting back with anger she simply accepted Masika how she was, even coddling her at times. It was just her way of preserving and protecting her sister. As the years passed Rehma eventually began her own clinic for the impoverished and Landen in the area. During her time there she had seen many injuries but none as jarring as those on slaves. It was frowned upon for Masters to mistreat their subordinates, and in lieu of fines, they lorded over their victims with carefully crafted lies. Rehema grew to hate the trade. Landen nor Blood were objects to be sold or bartered for. They were people with families, emotions and dreams. From then on, Rehema made it a point to aid slaves in whatever manner she could, even petitioning the court for steeper fines for repeat offenses.  This only made the Master’s angry and those who did not learn to respect their charges as people, learned to let them suffer in silence.  To this day she advocates for slaves who have no voice and hopes to see a day when Raej no longer wears the horrible badge with pride.

Character in Play:

Kontar was the light in an otherwise very dreary family dynamic. Though she had been overjoyed to find him enter the clinic where she spent most of her days, that excitement quickly dulled once he produced the nearly perfect fold of paper sealed with the High Priestesses marker.  Her eyes drew up to him and before she could utter any protest he insisted she read it and moreover, consider it carefully. He even offered a charming smile which she knew Rehema would especially be hard pressed to deny.

The invitation was simple enough. Nailah wanted to talk with her, not her twin, but her and she wanted to meet to begin the process of healing.  The words felt foreign to her even as her eyes rolled over them a second and a third time, trying to decipher some underlying intention hidden between the lines. There were so few of them. Yet a part of her only considered refusal because it was easiest and what Sika would have expected from her.

“She doesn't want to speak to me, she wants to use me to get to Sika. Come now Kontar, we both know where her interests are.”  Nailah and her twin sister Sika had been at each other's throats for as long as she could remember. Their strife poisoned the well for the entire family, turning them at one point against one another. Even Theoris was closest to Nailah and as Rehema shared a face with Sika, they were automatically grouped together as a single unit. For so long Rehema tried to keep the peace, to busy herself with all that needed to get done in order to alleviate some of the stress that befell the family until she merely faded into the background.

Nailah was Theoris’s sister, though the same blood ran through their veins. None of them could be more different. Kontar, bless him asked so little and upon her retiring as the middle man had taken the mantle as messenger to squabbling sisters. He visited her frequently knowing she did not besmirch Nailah but would often inquire about her nephews. Her method could best be summed up as avoidance, and that is where he saw the opportunity.

“Please.” It was all he asked and she sighed, knowing no matter what she decided it would leave her at a loss with one sister or another. Nailah was the eldest, the first to hold her hand, the first of so many and now they were practically strangers a part of Rehema wanted to reconnect with their sister, even if Sika would spit and curse at the mention of it.  Somewhere deep inside Rehema imagined it had to be true for her too. After all, weren't they two sides of the same coin.

The acceptance left her anxious for the rest of the day. Luckily she did not need to avoid her twin, instead leaving straight from the clinic to the restaurant Kontar suggested upon her stipulation. “I will not be lectured or preached to. If I am to do this, its on even terms.” She said, nodding her head curtly as a form of punctuation.  Kontar even suggested a restaurant Nailah wasn't as fond of, just to sweeten the pot. It worked. That boy was too good at getting his way.

Casa de Atholi was a reputable establishment, and easily able to sate anyone’s curiosity with their wide menu of Dhemlan cuisine.  Once arrived, the hist guided her into the back, where a thick velvet curtain was pulled aside and closed behind her to offer the guests some manner of privacy. A steel door might as well have been shut behind her. Folding her hands before her the young healer nodded, looking cautious but otherwise neutral. She wore a baby doll dress in emerald silk, her hair drawn up in a braided bun, a few loose tendrils of hair falling against her neck and exposed shoulders. A thick gold cord wrapped around her waist. “Hello sister.” The hostess motioned for her to take a seat before placing a menu before her. Rehema sat, drawing her eyes over the exalted Priestess. “You wanted to see me?”
