Distinguishing Features:

Personality

Personality:
She’s a bit spoiled and rather petty. She holds grudges. She has ambitions and wants to be in the spotlight. She craves attention, particularly male attention, and coordinates her wardrobe about this fact. She’ll play coy and mysterious when it suits her, but also plays brash and bold at a moment’s notice. She is mercurial. At any given minute, she could want to drag a petitioner into her bed or she could send him away without hearing a word. She doesn’t care about intellect -- she cares about physical strength, physical attractiveness, and actions. Her goal is to be the ruling Queen of the Tabur, at the very least, and quite possibly the Territory Queen eventually.

She’s a woman of instant gratification. She wants results. She wants to feel sexy and good. She wants the best. She’s materialistic. She’s shallow. The clever of mind can manipulate her and she hates it, so if she thinks she is being manipulated, she will lash out wildly in retribution. She is not a woman of much forethought, except for when it comes to how to achieve her goals. She knows that she has to do things to appear like she’s a good Queen but in reality, she loathes most of it. Charity cases are a drain on her coffers, beggars are dirty little thieves, and those brought to her Court for punishment probably deserved it anyway. Still, Shaula manages to fool those in greater power enough, forever riding a line between what she does and says in public and what she does and says in private. She’s two-faced like that, her own double-edged sword, not realizing that it will someday come back to bite her.

She’ll gobble up business connections and liaisons that give her immediate access to higher social circles but will find a way to disregard steady, lower ranking ones that could serve as more solid base of support. She’ll make promises and then back out of them or change them. Somehow, she always manages to wrap people around her finger so she gets what she wants and keeps them trailing behind her for the scraps she leaves behind. Fools, all of them! If you manage to get into her circle of friends, be prepared for her to be your worst enemy or your best friend.

Likes:
  • 1 - Gifts. Coming from a poor background, Shaula LOVES gifts. The more expensive, the more exotic, the more unique, the better. Give her the best fabrics, jewelry, horses -- all of the things a real Queen should have in order to look proper.
  • 2 - Sex. There was a joke when Shaula was younger that she should have also been a Black Widow with the amount of sex she was having. She expects males to sate her in every way possible and it’s quite common for to spend most nights with someone in her bed.
  • 3 - Nighttime. The nighttime is where the fun is had -- the parties, the drinking, the sex, the scandals… Shaula will say she loves the cool breeze of night as well but really, she just likes the cover the darkness provides for her entertainment.
Dislikes:
  • 1 - Males telling her what to do. She’s a Queen! Oh, she’ll listen to her males from time to time, when she thinks their good ideas match her ideas, but really, she hates being told what to do since she is the ruler and they are the plebeians.
  • 2 - Males turning her away. A woman scorned is dangerous and Shaula has had more than one male who turned away her sexual advances brought up on some ridiculous charges to get back at him.
  • 3 - Being reminded of her past. Shaula flies into an unholy rage whenever someone brings up that she came from poor origins. She wishes she could make everyone forget about it so that all they would see about her was her bright, shiny now, and not the dull, dirty past.
Fears:
  • 1 - Returning to nothing. She remembers those terribly poor days, with dirty clothes, little to eat, hardly anything to her name. And while she’s not above thieving, she prefers to secure her wealth in other ways now, and keeping it! The thought of losing it sends tremors through her.
  • 2 - Spiders. They’re creepy, they get into your bedroll at night. Never mind that some of them have very poisonous bites. They invoke a hair raising scream from Shaula every time.
  • 3 - Disfiguring. Being a vain person, Shaula fears being physical marred or disfigured. She knows she can use Craft to cover it up but she’ll know that her beauty has been destroyed in some way, which then destroys what little worth she has.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 - Seduction spells. It goes far above a pretty little pout or a flirty little smile. Shaula uses seduction when she thinks someone will resist her charms. She may not always bed the seduced but she’ll definitely leave them thinking about her more.
  • 2 - Emotional manipulation. Of course a woman who will do just about anything to get what she wants would excel at this little bit of Craft. People are always whining about their woes -- it would be so much better if they would get on board with Shaula’s ideas rather than their own. She tends to save this sort of Craft for stickler married men who won’t give in to seduction.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 - Defensive Shielding. Who in all of the Realms would dare harm a Queen? What idiot male would do such a thing? No Queen should learn how to Shield -- that’s what she has a Court for!
  • 2 - Land Sense. Shaula’s materialism and hedonism blind her to the state of the land. She blames her inadequacies on Pruul being a desert.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Afareen, Yellow to Rose witch (age 50, born 144 AP)
Father: unknown
Siblings: none

History:
Shaula was conceived during a Rut, when her mother managed to secure the attentions of a Warlord Prince some weeks before, in the hopes of just this outcome. Her mother didn’t make a big deal about the circumstances but every so often, Shaula would be picked on, as children often are, about coming from poor surroundings and a low clan status. The only mark Shaula had in her favor was her caste: Queen.

But instead of teaching her only daughter how to be a proper and humble Queen, Afareen doted upon and spoiled the child, filling her head with stories about how one day she would lead the Tabur into greatness -- a dream that Afareen felt would fulfill everything lacking in her own life as well. Shaula grew up receiving without saying thank you, manipulating or guilting others into giving things to her, or just plain stealing what she wanted if it came to that. She was a brat and no amount of discipline would cure her.

Afareen was highly disappointed in Shaula’s mere White Birthright, and, in her childish effort to understand this disappointment projected at her, Shaula turned more demanding and bullying of other children, declaring herself better than others because a White Jewel was the purest. Or so she rationalized. She hatched grandiose schemes to somehow secure a second Birthright and it took her quite a while to understand that was impossible.

When puberty hit, Shaula became an entirely new set of problems for her small encampment. She discovered male attention and it took the elders of the tribe whipping away every boy to keep her from bedding all of them too early. When it was finally impressed upon her that this was a momentous occasion in a young Queen’s life, Shaula turned coy and tried to stir up a giant rivalry amongst the cute boys of the tribe for the honor of deflowering her.

She did not get her way, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. The elders discovered her ploy, selected an older Opal Warlord for the task, and practically dragged Shaula by her hair into her Virgin Night before she caused herself irreparable harm with her recklessness. After that, they washed their hands of trying to control her. They sent her another Queen for training just days after she walked out of her Offering with a Tiger Eye.

At least Queen training held a few more opportunities for Shaula to channel her...passions...into. Being in a Court could be dull at times but there were plenty of males around and a lot of them wanted to make her happy since she was a Queen. Shaula learned not only how to work in a Court, but also how to play a Court to her desires. She figured out how to get away with enough to appear adequate to those in charge but how to get away with more to get what she really wanted, which was usually sex or gifts.

It was through this manipulation that she secured a position training with the clan Queen of the Tabur, an opportunity that Shaula immediately grabbed at, since it could only further her carnal desires and lofty ambitions.

Character in Play:
Shaula had just opened her eyes after floating for what felt like an hour within a haze of priapic bliss when there came a sharp rattling at her tent flap, instantly spoiling her mood. “I said I was not to be interrupted!” she shouted like the defiant child she was.

“Sorry, Lady, but an important message has arrived for you,” the servant said from the other side of the hanging, his meek voice muffled. Shaula sighed and rolled her eyes. What was it with servants, always interrupting when told not to? Yes, she had told them to let her know immediately when a message from a certain few carriers arrived, but did they have to take her so literally?

She cast a look at her bedmate, who had fallen in a light doze after their rigorous bed-bound exercising, and gave him a sultry smile when he opened his eyes. “Wait here,” she told him, “I’ll be right back.” She slipped from the bed, looking over her shoulder to see if he was watching her naked form from behind. He was. She wiggled her hips playfully at him.

She didn’t bother to hide that nudity either as she shifted the tent flap aside just enough to demand, “What is it?”

The servant’s eyes widened at the sight, unable to stop himself from taking in her naked body, but he quickly looked down and away. Males. They always had to look, even for a moment, and having that power over them made Shaula smugly smile. He handed her the letter as quickly as he could without seeming impolite. “It arrived just moments ago,” he said. “From your...friend...on the Tabur council.”

Friend indeed. It was a polite way of not saying how much sex Shaula was having with that man. She had been working on him for months, trying to get an angle through him to what she really wanted.

She opened the letter, read it, and squealed.

“You are dismissed!” she told the servant, with a wave of her hand as she vanished back into her room. She read the letter again as she approached the bed and then tossed it aside. This was perfect! Her fine body prowling back towards her current lover boy, Shaula smiled and said, “You...are about to be in for another treat.” She let out a throaty, purring laugh. “You are about to be ridden by the Queen in training for the entire Tabur clan,” she told him as she moved to straddle him.

He gave her some quickly forgotten reply as his hands slid eagerly along her hips. Males. So easy to manipulate. She’d toss him aside tomorrow and pick a new fuck, someone with more power, more to offer her. He might pine for her, try to get back in her bed for another night. She didn’t care. She was about to move on to greater things.

Lady Shaula, Queen of the Tabur clan. Oh, didn’t that sound just nice?
