Nicknames: Naya
Age and Birth Year:   31, 162AP
Race:   Short Lived Pruulian
Caste:  hearth witch
Birth Territory:  Pruul
Home Territory:  Pruul

Birthright Jewel:  Uncut Rose
Offering Jewel: Cut Purple Dusk

Role:  Shop Owner
Faction: Clan Sabbah

Appearance

Play By:  Eisha Singh
Distinguishing Features:  Naya is curvy and cute in a way that makes you not quite expect her propensity for whacking people over the head with wooden spoons. Long, straight hair frames an oval face and large eyes. She is fairly short, and strong from hoisting around bags of sugar and small children...sometimes at the same time. Naya prefers to wear bright colors and show a lot of skin.

Personality

Personality:
Naya is a woman who knows what she wants and is not shy about telling you. In fact, she may not know the word shy at all. She loves her wife, Elham, adores her sons and Salma, pushes food on anyone who walks through her door -and many in the street outside- enjoys her work and relishes in all the carnal pleasures she can get her hands on.

She has a big heart but has lived among the Sabbah her whole life, so is a canny businesswoman. She will always extend her generosity and good-will, but the moment she feels cheated or lied to, you will have to work to get in her good graces again. Her fury, though rare to surface, is a terror to behold, and between her and her Warlord wife, everyone knows Naya and her wooden spoon are the ones to watch.

Most days though, Naya is smiling, warm, and flirty. In fact, she will flirt with almost anyone of age and not in a monogamous relationship, and will continue flirting until she is told not to, or senses it is unwelcome. She had a near-fetishistic joy in bedding Warlord Princes and Black Widows, enjoying the excitement and vigor of the chase as well as the sex that follows, and has very few things that she will not do in bed, or people she wouldn’t do them with. Her wife though is the one who gets to see the side of Naya that is the sweetest, and she will kick just about anyone out of her bed on those rare nights that Elham wants to be there. Those are the best nights!

Really, there is very little about Naya that is secret or emotions she keeps to herself. She is just Naya, and Naya thinks Naya is awesome! (so yes, just a touch arrogant).

Likes:
  • Her strange little family: Elham, their children, Salma, Matin, her father, her friends, her customers. Naya considers everyone who hangs around often enough to be part of her weird family. She loves nothing more than to have to bring in more chairs to fit everyone who showed up for dinner unannounced.
  • Cooking & Baking: It is how Naya expresses all her emotions. When she is happy, sweet iced confections leave her kitchen, when she’s pissed, you had better have a cup of water near by while you eat because your mouth will be on fire with spice. Don’t make her pissed.
  • Temperature extremes: Naya likes blisteringly hot days. She loved experiencing the intensity of the Rains, and once, when her father took her up high in the mountains and she saw frost, she decided she also loved the way the icy chill made her feel alive. Normal weather bores her. Bring on the extremes.
Dislikes:
  • Scorpions: They have freaked her out from when she was a small child. It’s not the fact that they can hurt her, but the way they move that make her skin crawl. When she sees one she shrieks and makes Elham come kill it while she stands on a chair or table. Ewww!
  • Moontimes: She uses Craft to keep the frozen treats in her shop cold, and to make new ones. During the three days of her moontime she can’t do this and has to rely on others to keep her cases full and cold. To add to that, moontimes hurt like a bitch and males get fussy. She much prefers being the one to fuss than being fussed over, because they never do it right!
  • Messy Workplace: Naya likes a neat and organized workplace, which mostly translates to a spotlessly clean kitchen. She will get irritated, and that irritation will shift to true anger if people keep making messes in her space. It is the easiest way to incur her wrath.
Fears:
  • Something Happening to her Children: Her boys are as dear to dear as if she had born them. Matin’s daughter was left in her and Elham’s care when he joined the Clan Court. She is a precious child and among the very, very small number of child-Queens the Sabbah have produced in living memory. As she approaches her Birthright, and becomes more of a contented point between the Clan Queen and the True Sabbah, Naya fears for her life and freedom, and for the future of all Geiba children, including her own.
  • The Fall of the Sabbah: First the slaughter of the Geiba, including many among Naya’s kin, then the rise and fall of Adramelech, and now the internal division that threatens to tear the Sabbah in two...Naya is afraid that her Clan’s days are numbered and is terrified of what that will mean for her family.
  • The Deep Desert: She loves Pruul, but prefers the cities or mountains to the places where Worms lurk and there is no water for thousands of miles. They are dangerous conditions and she has a child to raise and protect, a little Queen no less. The Deep Desert might be a fine place for many, but not for Naya. Security means a lot to her.
Craft Strengths:
  • Heating and Cooling Craft: Naya cooks and makes iced treats in the desert. While she can do this the landen way, she much prefers being out of the deep desert where she can use Craft instead. It’s so much quicker and more fun! Her skill with this kind of Craft was perfected over decades of practice.
  • Telekinetic Craft: Cooking and churning ice cream both are easier when you can use craft to do the stirring. Naya can keep many balls in the air, sometimes literally, and keep track of it all with apparent ease.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Shields: of all type. She has people to protect her, and other than putting up an aural shield around her room for particularly loud sex, she has little to say or do that she is not comfortable with others witnessing. She has never bothered to learn how to use any of this kind of Craft, and will ask others for help if needed.
  • Preservation Spells: Despite her proficiency with heating and cooling, she has little to no skill preserving objects and room temperature foodstuffs from harm. She has to do it the landen way, and sometimes this really irks her, especially in a desert where everything gets sun-bleached and or dries out before she can blink.

History:

Naya was born of Nadra and Zayd only a year after their marriage. Her mother had joined her father’s tribe, leaving behind her Geiba family, but not her name, instead of the other way around since Zayd worked in the Sabbah Court at the time. That turned out to be one of the great fortunes of Naya’s life, for had she been born with the last name al-Geiba instead of al-Sabbah, her future would have been altogether different.

Still, Naya grew up traveling between the Sabbah and Geiba sides of her family. Nadra and her sister, Karima, had always been very close, and so it was only natural that their daughters be as well. Michka was several years younger than Nayarreh, but that was all the better to the young witch. She liked dressing Michka up like one of her dolls and teaching her how to knead dough and bake cookies. At her Birthright, Naya emerged with a Rose Jewel, which was the wonder of her half-landen little cousin. Armed with all the power the young girl enjoyed showing off, developing a knack for telekinetic Craft from the very start. Puberty was the end of required warrior training, for which she was eternally grateful. The only good thing that had come out of those years of forced physical exertion was meeting Elham. She was a girl a few years older than Naya, tough but soft spoken, and who could unfailingly make Naya laugh.

Naya and Elham spent time together throughout their teens. Naya discovered flirting early, and practiced often. Her father despaired of her reaching an appropriate age to have her Virgin Night without cracking, but somehow she made it, mostly because of Elham. Ama had set herself as Naya’s protector and confidant, and only grew more adamant about that as she chose to go down that path that would take her from a witch to a warlord. Ama considered Naya a younger friend she needed to protect, and Naya thought Elham her favorite person who was always fun to be around, and then, all of a sudden, they were in their twenties and the five years that separated them weren’t all that meaningful anymore and low and behold, they realized that they were in love. There was nothing magical about their romance. If anything, the opposite was true. Naya was intensely passionate about everything, Ama quieter and more serious. Nowhere were their differences more apparent that in the bedroom. Ama’s general distaste for sex almost broke them apart, until they settled on a simple compromise: Naya could have as much sex as she wanted with as many people as she wanted, as long as Ama got veto power and dibs. It wasn’t traditional, but without the stress of two very different libidos to contend with, they settled into a joyful and loving relationship.

Michka, too, was taking her first tentative steps in love. One of the young Sabbah men that Elham trained, Matin, began to spend more and more time with Naya’s cousin, and soon were inseparable. Michka was young when she got pregnant, but everyone, including Naya, was delighted. Not particularly political, the young woman had mostly ignored the goings on in the higher echelons of Pruul up to this point, but as the now larger family excitedly prepared to welcome a baby into their lives, even she was unable to ignore the looming danger in Pruul. Michka and Matin were still debating baby names when Pruul was rocked to its foundations when the horrors of the Geiba-controlled mines were discovered.

The months that followed were tense and full of fear, interrupted only by the joyous arrival of Salma. Shortly thereafter Michka asked Naya to accompany her to her Offering, and came away with a White Jewel.

It was the cruelest joke the Darkness could have played.

Naya and Elham were at her parent’s camp for dinner when the Geiba were seized. Men came and ordered Naya’s mother to come with them. They tried to argue that she had lived among the Sabbah for decades, that she was Sabbah, in all but name, but it did no good. The edict was clear, and her mother bore the Geiba mark on her neck.

Naya, Elham and Zayd followed close on her mother’s heels and were among the crowd that watched the Mother of Pruul, Saiph al-Kaid, sentence every Geiba above the age of eight to their death. Naya screamed and fought Elham’s restraining arms as her mother, her aunt, her uncle and Michka died, hurling curses at the fair-haired Queen who would murder innocents and children just to make a point. Her father just crumpled, his soul torn open by the bloodshed as people cheered and celebrated the deaths of their family.

Elham was the only reason Naya made it home that day. She tended to her as she ranted and cried and screamed her anger. She tended to Zayd as he fell silent then catatonic with grief. She made inquiries and found out that Matin had managed to get Salma and flee before the events of that bloody day, and that as far as anyone knew, they were safe, and she helped those who were caring for the Geiba orphans left behind.

When Naya, at last, emerged from her grief, she set about assisting as well, the two working side by side each day. They were married a few months later and adopted two of the Geiba children. The eldest, Barin, was a young Warlord Prince who had been only weeks away from his Birthright. He was angry, confused, and resentful of help, and no one wanted to deal with him. The younger was a quiet four-year-old Landen boy, Yari, who was Barin’s only friend. The two children were granted the last name al-Sabbah, as so many of the Geiba orphans were. Few other Clans and Tribes wanted much to do with them. Naya and Elham could only take on two, but their camp was always open to any that were around, and many children, especially the older ones who remembered their family's and Tribe’s culture, kept it alive around Naya and Elham’s table.

It was about a year after the slaughter of the Geiba that Matin and his young daughter ran into them where they were camped along the Northern Range. They had been there for awhile, Naya having started making iced sweets and doing very well for herself at one of the larger Sabbah camps. Matin must have heard of them, for he showed up at their door one day, more worn and ragged than Naya could ever remember seeing him. The toddler he carried was clearly the same child as she had seen in Michka’s arms, but her Psychic Scent had sharpened over their year apart and was unmistakably that of a Queen. A half-Geiba Queen.

Naya pulled Matin inside their tent without question, and over the next few years, as he came and went, Naya and he grieved together for those they had lost. Barin took to Salma with the intensity that only a Warlord Prince could have for a Queen, supporting her as she toddled about and getting angry at the earth itself every time she fell and skinned her knee. That bond between their children kept Matin coming back, and when the timing of that coincided with one of his approaching ruts, Naya took one look at the miserable Warlord Prince, smiled, and dragged him to her bed.

A few years later they all traveled together to Onn when Matin’s mother finally summoned him back to help the family deal with some strange new Queen their foreign Voice had found to lead the Sabbah. Naya was glad for the move. Her skill with making iced sorbets and creams had been improving over the years to the point where she wanted a storefront, and Onn was the place to do it. When Matin went to the Trials of this Queen to witness her failure and ended up in service to her, Elham and Naya scoured the city for a nice house with a large courtyard for the children to play. Matin requested that they allow Salma to live with them so that his new Queen would not learn of her. They agreed and settled in to stay.

Character in Play:

Nayarreh knocked the wooden spoon against the edge of the pan, dislodging drips of sauce back into the bubbling liquid below. The heated sugar radiated heat as it slowly turned a richer and richer gold.

A crash sounded behind her. She whipped around, hands flying to her hips.

“Barin, what did I tell you about running through the kitchen when I’m making candy?”

The twelve-year-old Warlord Prince stopped in his tracks, half way through reaching down to pick up the pot he had knocked over from the drying rack.

“But-”

“No buts. Sugar will burn right through your skin before you can shield, and I don’t want it flying all over my kitchen. Besides, aren’t you supposed to be watching Salma?” She asked, even though she could clearly see the little Queen still contentedly digging in the sand outside the open door, dark hair as curly and wild as her mother’s had been.
Barin scowled. “She told me to leave her alone.”

Naya extinguished the witchfire under her pot and leaned against the counter, one eyebrow rising. “Barin, you’re twelve. She’s five. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t get to boss you around.”

“But mom, she used that tone.” Barin grumbled, putting the pot back on the counter. “Besides, Yari is watching her while he’s reading, and I thought I could-”

“You have fighting practice three days a week, today is for family. So you have two choices.”

Barin groaned. “I hate your choices.”

Naya smiled, turning back to the caramel and starting to whisk in cream before it got too dark. “You can go back out there and play with Salma, and your brother while I finish making dessert for tonight’s dinner and do all the dishes...or you can go do whatever it is you want while I play with Salma and your brother, and you can explain to everyone why there is no dessert while you do the dishes.”

He didn’t say anything, but she heard his stomping footsteps as he returned the way he had come. Naya kept stirring the pot, smile widening. Ah, it was good to be mom, and always right.
