Distinguishing Features:
His eyes are a piercing green like new grass that springs from the ground near the oasis.  He also has numerous scars all over his body but the two most defining are in his left bicep and on his chest just beneath his heart.

Personality

Personality:
Celim is never quite at ease anywhere.  He's always looking over his shoulder, always one step shy of being comfortable in any social situation.  This is even more true when he knows members of the Jinan are nearby, in fact he's likely to find any excuse to vacate the area that he can come up with in this situation.  He does his best to avoid anyone who might recognize him from his life before the al-Izar.  He enjoys the company of a very short list of people and trusts even fewer.

Celim is very secretive about what landed him without a clan and on the streets.  He will not answer questions about his past or discuss it with anyone.  He will in fact either leave or change the subject when pressed and if the individual asking persists he will give them only one warning to stop or face the consequences.  Most people don't need a second.  Of his family he has only told Darya the truth about what happened and she swore never to repeat what she was told.

He is very observant and is always on the lookout for trouble or threats to the safety of those around him.  A hold over from all the years he spent on the streets where not paying attention would have gotten him or the others killed or collared as slaves.  He is especially careful of Zinat and Yasmin's safety, the youngest of his little family.  Lately he's been having to remind himself that they are now of age and he can't keep chasing off the pairs rather numerous suitors.  Even if it is amusing to watch those suitors go pale when they are introduced to him.

Like a cat Celim does what he wants, when he wants.  He can seem almost boneless when relaxed and stretched out on a rooftop or ledge and can spring into alert and ready to fight in barely the blink of an eye.  It's rare for anyone to see him completely relaxed and enjoying himself and he hardly ever smiles.  Even as stern as he can sometimes seem he does pay attention to the needs of the people around him and will do his best to support his family and clan in their endeavors beyond just fighting for them.

Celim is at home on the killing edge.  That perfect clarity that lets him find and exploit the weaknesses of his opponents.  That crystal clear edge that brings everything into focus is as natural to him as breathing.  Some days he seems to hover just barely on the other side of the line, waiting for someone to step up and offer a challenge.

Celim has a highly ingrained sense of honor and protectiveness towards everyone around him.  He was taught from a young age that it was his responsibility to protect and defend and he considers it an honor to do exactly that.  His family may not like his decisions, but if they are in danger he will do whatever he feels he must to keep them alive and in one piece.  This includes tossing any of them over one shoulder and dragging them out of a dangerous situation.  Even Darya isn't immune from this even though she is a skilled fighter herself.  He doesn't view this as an insult to their abilities to take care of themselves rather he feels that if blood is going to be shed, or if someone is going to die, better his blood or life than the ones behind him.

Likes:
  • His adopted family: Darya, Danyal, Zinat and Yasmin adopted him as much as he adopted them.  They showed him the ropes when he arrived in Onn even though they didn't have to.  They could have left him to die and instead they came to help.  Over the years the group has grown very close and he joined the al-Izar only after the others were allowed to.  He still spends most of his time with them rather than other members of his new Clan.

  • Onn: The city has become a symbol of home to him over the year.  He's navigated its streets and alleys so much that he can cross it half asleep without being spotted.  He loves sitting on a rooftop watching and listening to the bustle of the people on the streets.  The scenery of the city is always changing and even having explored so much of it he still finds new places and things he didn't know about.  It doesn't hurt that the city is large enough that he can avoid any members of the Jinan that are around, disappearing into the crowds and hidden alleyways to avoid them.

  • Fighting: Celim loves a good fight especially against an opponent that makes him work for his victory.  Now that he is part of a Clan again he enjoys sparring against any of the other guards male or female in an effort to hone his skills even more than they have been.  His favorite opponent is Lucky as the other male stands deeper than him and enjoys the fight as much as he does.  He's a Warlord Prince to the core and he won't shy away from a challenge if it's offered.

    Dislikes:
  • The Desert: Strange to be sure from someone who lives in a Territory that is a desert but he doesn't like it regardless.  After being cast out into the sands and struggling to make his way to Onn he has developed a dislike of being in it.  Where others enjoy traveling across through the territory he prefers the streets of Onn.  A city he knows like the back of his hand over the rolling dunes outside the walls.

  • Hunger: He spent too many years barely surviving on the streets trying to feed not just himself but the others he ran with and saw as his to protect.  Now that he has a safe place to stay and plenty of food he sees no reason why he should be hungry at all.  Still he tends to keep stashes of food and water in various safe places throughout the city, just in case.

  • The Orphans on the streets: To be clear it's not the orphans themselves that he dislikes, its the fact that they are there that he dislikes.  He spent years on the streets, he knows what that can do to a child, what they have to go through to survive and it gnaws at him like an ever persistent itch.  If he had it his way they would all be part of his new Clan even if he had to drag them kicking and screaming off the streets.  Still he knows that everyone has the right to choose, so he keeps an eye on them instead working with Darya and the others to make sure they have what they need to be safe and trying to get them to agree to come to the clan by choice and not force.

    Fears:
  • The truth coming out: If anyone discovers his brother was the true betrayer his brother will die and his own disgrace will have been for nothing.  He will do whatever he must to protect this secret and his brother from anyone who attempts to pry into what really happened.  He’s lived with this lie for years now to protect his little brother and he won’t allow his sacrifice to be for nothing regardless of the price he has to pay.

  • Being abandoned by the family he's found: This ties into his fear of his secret coming out, a secret he's told no one including his adopted family.  If what happened comes to light he isn't sure that they or his new Clan will stand with him, regardless of what they've said in the past.  Celim sometimes lays awake at night, his mind racing over what he will do if he is ever cast back out into the world without the family he's made.

  • Being Collared: A slave has no freedom and no ability to choose for themselves something he hates with every fiber of his being.  The collars on a slaves neck takes everything that makes a person an individual away from them, leaving just a shell in it's place. He has seen what being trapped can do to someone he loves first hand, Darya's weeks with the slavers having changed her forever.  He's grateful the Voice of his tribe decided to cast him out rather than put one around his neck.  Celim would rather die than allow himself, or any member of his family, to be locked in a collar ever again.

    Craft Strengths:
  • Enhanced Battle Craft: He is especially good at using this craft to deal with multiple opponents at a time.  He seems to know instinctively where they are and exactly where and when to strike to eliminate each one.  He’s very good at using this craft to ensure that when an opponent goes down they STAY down.  On the streets of Onn sometimes he needed to get his point across quickly and decisively and more than once this skill kept him alive when he was jumped by multiple opponents for the supplies he had.

  • Combat Shielding:  He is very good at using shields not just defensively for himself but also as another offensive tool at his command.  He learned to use shields in these ways on the streets and while some of his tricks might be considered dirty fighting they kept him and the kids he ran with alive and that is all that matters as far as he is concerned.  A shield placed in just the right spot was sometimes all that stood between the kids he was protecting and angry adults who wanted to hurt them.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • Triage craft: Don't even ask him to attempt it.  If he’s injured then someone had better find a Healer to tend to the wounds.  Celim is more likely to accidentally kill himself trying to triage any injuries because it seems that no matter what he does these spells only seem to make the wounds WORSE not better.  He won't even attempt to use them on a fellow fighter, more likely to just throw them over a shoulder when the fighting is done and drop them in front of the nearest Healer.

  • Sensing Spells: Celim was never good at this and even years spent on the streets haven't improved this skill set any.  From basic security spells to compulsions to set or timed spells on doors he just isn't any good at it.  Give him something to fight and he excels but ask him to spot a spell on a door and he will defer to someone else.  [He just relies on Darya to tell him when he's about to trigger something she's better at this sort of thing than he is].

    History:
Celim was born the 6th of 7 children and the first born with a Caste, his mother had always wanted a large family so no one was surprised when she gave birth to another son a year later.  It was the last child she would have, the pregnancy and birth being far more difficult than any other and Celim's brother came so early that no one thought he would live.  The fact that Arman too was a Warlord Prince was surprising to everyone but Zareen took it as a blessing from the darkness.  Her youngest son quickly became her favorite child.  She spoiled her youngest and told Celim repeatedly as they grew that he was responsible for his brother's safety.  Zareen boasted about both her boys, but especially Arman to the annoyance of many in the clan and the family but they were ignored by the happy mother.  As the boys grew she was certain that they would stand as some of the clans best protectors, perhaps even serving in the court of the Queen, maybe even within her Triangle.  When they both came away with Purple Dusk and the potential to wear a jewel as dark as the Sapphire it seemed she was right.

This was how Celim spent his early years, training and being told repeatedly that as a Warlord Prince the safety of everyone else should come first.  That he was responsible for protecting not just his clan but his family and especially his little brother.  While Arman would beg off lessons to laze about or was with their mother as she paraded around her pride and joy, Celim spent hours with the guards and the older Warlord Princes watching and learning how to fight.  Great things were expected of both boys and many saw Celim as a potential future leader of the warriors that would defend the tribe.

Who knows how his life may have gone if it weren't for the events that played out when he was 18 and his brother 17.  That night is one Celim will never forget, it is burned into his memory and yet it is also one that he refuses to speak of.  That night his life was turned upside down and his family lost to him forever, all because of a choice he made.  An attack on the caravan as they were setting up camp left many dead and injured and nearly a dozen of the horses were stolen.  When the dust cleared it became quickly apparent that someone had sold out the clan to the raiders, allowing for an ambush that resulted in a great deal of spilled Jinan blood.

Celim knew what had happened when he saw the way Arman was acting, he cornered his brother who spilled a tale of a debt and a threat which had resulted in Arman selling out the caravan to save himself.  Celim didn't believe that Arman knew how much blood would be spilled by his actions and as always he held himself responsible for his little brother being placed in that position in the first place.  He kept his peace as the Voice and her escort searched even though he knew he should speak up he couldn't bring himself to turn in his brother.   The investigation resulted in only a single lead, one of the clan remembered seeing a Warlord Prince who wore the Purple Dusk speaking with one of the raiders that had been killed.  Unfortunately he couldn't remember who he'd seen exactly, but his information narrowed the list of suspects to just two, Arman and Celim.

When the Voice, Advera al-Jinan and her escort Torin al-Jinan came to question him and his brother Celim admitted to a crime he hadn't actually committed in front of his entire family.  To say those present were angry is like saying there is a little bit of sand in the desert.  His actions were unacceptable to them and he was bound and placed under guard while his fate was decided.  Celim is unaware of what happened exactly between the Voice and her escort, knowing only that they returned to him as the sun was rising.  His bonds were cut, his Birthright returned to him and he was cast out to either survive or die on his own.

Celim made it through the desert to the city of Onn where he knew he could disappear from sight into the mass of people that lived there.  His first year on the streets was filled with hard lessons learned through painful experience and yet the core of what he was stayed strong.  It would have been easy to turn his back on the way he'd been raised, to use the strength of his jewel and his training to inspire fear or control.  Instead he almost died that first year protecting Zinat, a young Hearth witch that was an orphan living on the streets as well.  Against six larger, older and far more skilled males he very nearly died for interfering.  Still he succeeded in buying Zinat time to escape.  He didn't expect her to bring back help.

She returned not just with her twin sister Yasmin who was a Healer but two older children she ran with Darya a Witch wearing Opal and Danyal a Warlord wearing Yellow.  The arrival of the older pair helped turn the tide of the fight and Yasmin managed to keep him alive, even half trained as she was, long enough to get him to a small clinic that helped the orphans living on the streets.  After he was treated the group dragged Celim back to their hideout so he could recover in safety, or in as much safety as could be managed.

At first he didn't trust them, constantly waiting to be stabbed in the back but each flash of temper was met with a steady calm from Danyal and amusement from Darya.  Eventually he stopped testing them and a tentative trust formed between the older trio.  When Celim's wounds healed he accepted Danyal's invitation to stay.  He was tired of dodging guards, slavers and others living on the streets alone but he prefaced his decision by reserving the right to leave whenever he chose.  Danyal agreed and Celim became the fifth member of the little family.

His addition to the group took some of the strain off of the older pair as they could depend on him to keep an eye on the younger girls and after he began to hone his combat skills his reputation kept most of the others living on the streets away from them.  Still it wasn't easy to survive especially when supporting so many wearing jewels.  Darya had already chosen to abstain from making her Offering for a few years until the group was settled in a better situation.  Celim too made that choice as his 20th birthday came and went.

The rains came and the Mineborn but Celim didn't notice.  His relationship with Darya was beginning to change becoming more intense and intimate.  No one was surprised when Celim staked a claim on her.  Danyal and the others were equally unsurprised when she accepted him and the pair began sharing a bed.  When Darya was jumped on the street by a slaver and vanished Celim left Danyal to protect the girls and followed her trail out into the desert.  It took him weeks of searching to find her, the slavers almost to the border of Raej when he caught up with them.  A Warlord Prince is a dangerous opponent, one as angry as Celim even more so.  Still the slavers were confidant that he could be overwhelmed and enslaved as well.

    Celim proved them wrong.

He'd grown on the streets mastered fighting multiple opponents with Craft and shields and dirty tricks.  Their number meant nothing to him especially riding the Killing Edge as he was.  Freeing Darya and the others he escorted those that chose to return to Onn back to the city.  The pari splitting off from the group to find the rest of their family.  The pair made the choice to make their Offerings later that year and though their relationship was strained for a time it survived and is only stronger now, a true partnership.

The last year brought something new to his city, the atmosphere of Onn beginning to change  and the rumors of a new Clan being created drifting through the air.  It was while he was investigating these rumors that he encountered Lucky for the first time.  Words were exchanged and the pair of Warlord Princes ended up trading blows in one of the alleys of the city.  Half way through the fight Celim found himself enjoying the match and from the gleam in the eyes of the male across from him so was he.

Celim lost but instead of leaving him there in the alley like he expected, Lucky dragged him back to the al-Izar compound so a Healer could tend to him.  Celim didn't stay but he continued to run into Lucky over the next few weeks.  The pair generally ended up sparring but they began to talk as well each quietly gauging the other.  Celim was enjoying trying his skills against the other Warlord Prince who stood deeper in the Abyss and who enjoyed the fight as much as he did.  The pair eventually formed a friendship and when Lucky invited him to join his clan Celim accepted so long as he could bring his lover and adopted family.

The group has settled into life in the al-Izar compound slowly over the last few months, keeping mostly to themselves but enjoying their newfound home regardless.  Yasmin especially is flourishing now that she has access to actual Healers who are willing to finish her training and the younger pairs Offering ceremony was completed only recently under the watchful eye of one of the al-Izar Priestesses.  Still Celim is uneasy, the Jinan and the Mineborn are allies and so he's found himself dodging members of his old clan more than once.  Joining the al-Izar was a good move when it comes to the safety of his little family providing them with things they would have never gained on the streets but it comes with dangers he isn't quite sure how to handle.

    Character in Play:
Celim knelt in the sand, arms bound behind his back with rope that cut into the skin.  He was cold and tired struggling to stay awake and to ignore the glares being sent his way by the guards that had been posted to keep him from escaping.  It was a waste of manpower, as Celim had no plans to attempt one.  He might have been scared, terrified even deep down, knowing what was eventually going to come for him, but he had made his choice and he would stand by it even in the face of death.

He almost wished his Voice and her escort had killed him in his parents tent rather than leaving him out here to stew in his thoughts.  Advera had wanted to, he'd seen it in her eyes, the flash of fury the tightening of a hand on the hilt of a khanjar.  It was her escort Torin who had intervened, placing a calming hand on her shoulder and gesturing for the guards to escort him out.  Celim hadn't looked at his family, hadn't seen them since he'd been led here earlier in the day, bound and shoved to his knees to wait.

He felt a little betrayed by the fact that in the hours he'd been here not one member of his family had even made the attempt to see him, not even Arman.  Despite that he didn't second guess his decision, didn't even contemplate telling the Voice the truth.  Arman was his mother's pride and joy.  His little brother had made a stupid mistake one Celim was sure he hadn't fully grasped the consequences of.  His death might be the catalyst his brother needed to change his ways.  If so then his own life was a cheap price to pay for his brothers safety and his mothers happiness.  She would survive his loss far better than she would survive the loss of Arman.

Others in the clan would disagree with his choice, would say he was making a mistake by taking the blame for his brothers actions.  Celim disagreed and as the sun began to peek over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of gold and red Advera and Torin reappeared.  Celim tensed at their approach, but felt a strange sense of relief wash over him.  He was at peace with his choice regardless of the consequences and was ready for this to be over with.

The Voice of his clan stepped in front of him, staring down at his bound form and asked once more, "Do you have anything to say?"

His eyes locked with hers, firm and resolute as he replied with a single word, "No."

For a moment he saw a flash of suspicion in her eyes as if she didn't quite believe him but if she was looking for a sign that he was lying she wouldn't find it.  His psychic scent carried only a steadfastness to his words and there was nothing in his eyes or body language for her to read beyond a preparedness to accept his fate.  Even as Celim refused to break eye contact with her he heard a blade leave it's sheath.  He braced himself for the pain of it slicing through skin only to feel it slice through his bonds instead.

He stared at her in shock, green eyes flicking between Advera and Torin as she pointed away from the camp voice hard and unrelenting, "The desert will decide your fate."

For a moment he didn't understand what she was saying then it struck him, she wasn't going to kill him, she was casting him out instead.  He staggered to his feet, swaying as muscles tense from being bound rebelled.  Barely snaging the single water skin and his jewel, stripped of it's setting, from the air as Torin tossed them at him.

For a moment he hesitated teetering between leaving and just begging her to finish the kill as the totality of what he was giving up really struck home.  He was never going to see his family again, never going to ride with his friends, or enjoy the safety of knowing someone would always stand at his back.

    He was cast out.

    Clanless.

The moment passed and he straightened his shoulders turning his back on them and striding off into the desert as the sun rose in full over the horizon.  If they were going to give him a chance to live he would embrace it with both hands.

    He didn't look back.

Not then and not in the years to come.

Good with me for Torin mentions
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead, We'll wander back to home and bed.
