Ooh. Music. I'll take any kind of links. I usually pick according to personality or cultural sounds so I'm going to list a few details hoping it'll help someone to remember similar tunes. Hopefully one of these themes reminds someone of a song or two!

Asala: Raej/Egypt. Thinks she's a badass and can be in some respects, but has some pretty serious weaknesses that she doesn't like to acknowledge. Head of Red Moon Houses.
Devesh: Nharkava/India. Priest/Prince. Devout af, but dark af too. Inherently selfish but his faith keeps him generally in line. Driven.
Puja: Nharkava. Young and knows everything. Strong, angry, resourceful, resilient. A mother to many orphans. A renowned thief.
Silje: Glacia/Nharkava. Queen. Homesick. Stir crazy. Tired of being stuck in one place especially while subject to the whims of men. Capable but enjoys being catered to.
Sixten: Glacia/Nharkava. Typical WP. Wishes people would take him more seriously and that he could finally connect with his bonded sister/Queen.
Torben: Glacia/Nharkava. The poster child for the downtrodden LJ's in Glacia but at the same time a stoic support that brings peace where he goes. Ridiculously calm for his caste. Very introspective and always considering the path of least resistance.
Michaela: Hayll. Queen. Charismatic, devious, resentful of control but coming into her own, proud, calculating, glamorous.
Gnaeus: Hayll. Imagine Chucky but hella fine with a tragic past and a soft side. All sorts of vindictive and messed up in the head.

Please and thank you for this!

Caste: Healer
Birth Territory: Dea al Mon
Home Territory: Dea al Mon

Role:

Appearance

Play By: Ginta Lapina
Distinguishing Features: She can seem rather well put together which may stand out in a chaotic environment.

Personality

Personality:

In the Red Cloaks, Reverie was known as the less entertaining but more curious and driven of the Erebril sisters. Ingenuity was better loved, but Reverie was content with that. She felt scrutinized by others due to her Jewels, weighted by their expectations of her. Reverie never did have many friends, perhaps due in part to this, but it wasn't a void that seemed to need filling, either. She was liked well enough and had enough of her sister's charisma to still make a good impression where it mattered and she had everything that she needed in Ingenuity.

Family has always been the source of her passions. Building and preserving legacies, honoring those who came before her while paving the ways for those to  come, making a mark, leaving a name, raising up the future of the land. Her goals shifted when Ingenuity died, however, and now her dedication to her work masks a lot of the things she cares about. One might easily surmise that she enjoys her work for as much as she gives of herself, but her motivation is much deeper than that. She must protect what is left.

Reverie has always felt inept and unprepared to represent her Caste much less fight The Waste. She felt similarly when she became an adult in a nation at war with invisible enemies. Though she is proud of her contribution, she feels as though the reverence that she's viewed with is unearned and she carries a bit of guilt over it. While her efforts have been massive, yes, she's accomplished little, if you ask her, which makes her no better than most anyone else. She keeps these feelings well guarded. She's not exactly ashamed of them but understands that infatigable strength is more inspiring than uncertainty.

Reverie takes herself more seriously than Ingenuity ever did, but maybe only because she's so terrified of slowing down. The moment that she takes a breath could be the one that matters. Working with the dying, she doesn't show the horror that she feels. It's not that she doesn't frighten easily, she's afraid of everything, but her mask is persistent. Others should look to her and find hope.

She confides in no one, not even her husband. She loves him, but she's not sure if he doesn't understand her or if he too fears the effect of her doubts on her work. He dismisses even basic concerns and takes a reassuring and supportive stance, not one that is willing to explore potentially uncomfortable truths.

Like most everyone else, she tends to deny her negative thoughts or keep them subdued. At the end of the day she notes her experiences in her journals and leaves them there, all but gone as soon as she turns the page. She holds onto hope because it's what she knows and is likely to argue for idealist concepts well past the point that they seem rational.

The idea that she might have a part in cleansing Dea Al Mon is a driving force. Being part of a consolidated and heroic effort to fight the unknown and terrifying evil that threatens to eclipse the Territory brings meaning and purpose to her life though she sees little choice in the matter. Fight or lay down and wait to die. It's not bravery that stands her up in the face of danger, but the fear of what will happen if she doesn't.

As a Dark-Jeweled Healer and a well-traveled perpetual student, Reverie knows and is known by many people. Being on the move helps to hide that she still doesn't maintain many personal relationships. Anymore, it would be mostly impossible. Her research and her home life fight for her free time leaving few scraps for anything else. She loves her family dearly and her selfless service comes from her need to preserve them but her fear of losing them keeps her at arms length, especially from her daughter.

She spends a lot of time mulling over difficult to decipher facts from other research and old books. She records everything in some format, usually writing things down in letters, reports, or her cherished journals. One day some small detail in her research might mean a great deal. That's what she tells people when they ask. She doesn't tell them that she writes so that her children may know her once she is taken by the Waste. Or perhaps so that once acquired, she may read and know who she used to be.

Likes:
  • Literature. Combing through historical books helps her research potential causes of the Waste but Reverie also likes to read about the way things used to be. She still enjoys losing herself in novels from time to time.
  • Dreams. Reverie's dreams never disappoint. It's the waking that saddens her. Asleep, her dreams favor her, taking her from one beautiful world to the next, restoring her inside and out.
  • Searching For Meaning. Unable to accept that The Brood and their Waste will prevail, Reverie must believe that there is a reason for the suffering brought upon Dea Al Mon. It is like this with everything. She can't accept that sometimes people just get sick, or die, or that bad things happen for no reason at all. There must be a purpose for it. Mother Night wouldn't allow such terrible things to happen to her children without cause.

Dislikes:
  • Deserters. Anyone who turns a blind eye to the evil that plagues Dea Al Mon might as well be the enemy for as much good as they accomplish. Fear is no excuse.
  • The Unrelenting Struggle. She hates feeling compelled by the necessity of her work. It leaves her little time at home or to rest. The land decays and it's left with people like her to make it right. She's no hero, yet she has to act.
  • Failure. Not just on a personal level--Dea Al Mon has thus far contained the Waste, but if they fail, it will spill over the borders and into the other realms. This makes Dea Al Mon the guardians of the rest of the world. If they fail, more than the Erebrils, more than Dea Al Mon will suffer for it.

Fears:
  • Losing Her Family. Maybe the reason her parents remained so distant in her life was that they were afraid of getting too attached and then losing her. She won't acknowledge, much less consider the distance she puts between herself and her husband, her daughter. It hurts too much to see it all come full circle.
  • Monsters. A world that begat The Brood should not be taken for granted. Just because they are Dea Al Mon's most present enemy doesn't mean that they are the only threat. What else is out there? Could be anything or nothing. Not knowing is as terrifying as what is already known. Reverie has done enough reading that sleep doesn't come as easily as it used to.
  • Becoming Someone Else. Every time she learns a lesson that hardens her up, she panics for fear that she's contracted the waste. Seeing these sharper edges in herself scares her and makes her wonder if she's not becoming something else. She was only ever the joyful sort around her sister and usually rather even-keeled, but current events have changed her and it doesn't seem to be for the better.

Craft Strengths:
  • Physiological Sensing. Highly attuned to the workings of the body, signs of physical sickness and injury can be as apparent to Reverie as an open wound. Due to this, she can often work in reverse to track the cause of a problem, even one still unknown by the subject.
  • Steroid Hormone Manipulation. The ability to stimulate as well as manifest steroid hormone activity. More than performance enhancing, steroid hormones help control inflammation, immune functions, sexual characteristics, and the ability to withstand illness and injury. There are many practical applications, but she predominantly uses it to suppress symptoms of The Waste.

Craft Weaknesses:
  • Pediatric Care. The more severe the need for aid, the more incapacitated Reverie is when it comes to children. Compassionately moved by her young patients, attempting to work with a child brings emotions and fears that she can normally control to the surface. From nervous to frantic, this neurosis drastically impedes, negates or even reverses her effectiveness.
  • Travel Craft. Reverie is unable to ride the winds without a competent escort or coach. Not only does she have no sense for those invisible strands but she is rattled by the displacement and can become dangerously disoriented.

From Bane's application

History:

The youngest of two daughters, Reverie grew up in a comfortably middle-class home. Glimmer, her mother, was a politician. Her father was an officer of the Ebon Guard. With such important roles in a violently changing world, they were home as often as they were away. When they returned home they often seemed discontent and tired. Though they both made efforts to show love to their children their eyes always seemed fixed in the distance. This meant that Reverie and Ingenuity had only each other as a constant. Reverie idolized her sister. Five years older, Ingenuity seemed to know everything that Reverie didn't and instead of trying to leave her at home, Ingenuity took Reverie under her wing.

Miraculously, both sisters awoke from their Offerings clutching dark Jewels. Jeweled daughters to Jeweled parents. It seemed like something to celebrate, but the news of such a fortunate family always seemed to get buried in news of the war and efforts to confront the evils that were infecting the territory. One thing Reverie remembers well was when her mother sat she and Ingenuity down and explained to them that their gifts meant that they would matter so much more to the security of their homeland. It was no surprise that the girls grew up so inspired and devoted to that task. Reverie followed her sister into maturity, their paths only diverging when Reverie entered Caste training. Here she grew into herself, becoming her own person.

After time in the Red Cloaks, Reverie moved on to putting her Caste to work in the sanctums. The Waste scared her to the bone but if she couldn't help, who could? Swallowing the horror at such a plague, Reverie devoted herself to aiding the sick, studying them, their origins, potential causes, and cures. At a certain point, she became numb to her fear, but it never went away, either. It was always there chewing away at her spirit. What if no one could be saved? Not just those who were already infected, but the entire territory? The Waste continued to spread and yet not a single soul had been cured of it...

When Ingenuity was married and gave birth to children, a youthful joy was rekindled in Reverie. She spent much of her free time with the family and lavished the children with love as often as she was able, intending for her them to never feel left behind or overlooked. These cherished years were short-lived, cut short when the Brood attacked and claimed the lives of Ingenuity and her two young children. Suddenly, Reverie was bereft and as alone as she'd ever been.

She tried to console her spirit by busying herself in her duties. If she worked hard enough long enough and others did the same then they would surely discover a way to change the fate of the land. When she learned that Bane, Ingenuity's widower, had left the Ebon Guard and was coming undone due to the loss of his family, she went to him. Perhaps if she could heal his spirit, her own would knit itself back together. But Bane had The Waste.

Reverie took Bane to a sanctum and cared for him, taking a resident role there instead of traveling the realm in search for answers. Daily he became less of himself and she couldn't tell whether it was The Waste or his own brokenness that was consuming him. He did heal her in a way because she had to learn to imitate strength to give him hope. She wasn't at the sanctum when the Brood attacked and Bane wasn't there when she returned to it.

After treating the wounded and the search for survivors, she was forced to move on. Those who were left were transferred to other posts. Reverie returned to her quest, emboldened now, convinced that Dea Al Mon would either succeed or be ruined. Traveling the realm, she read, studied, and documented. Her numerous case studies were delivered ad nauseam to the leaders in the field. Though so much of what she learned seemed inconsequential, the fact was that no connections had been made, and so she kept on.

Like her own mother, she married and had a daughter, but her work keeps her preoccupied. Though she makes great efforts to be home with the girl, her eyes are often fixed in the distance.

Character in Play:

She'd been sitting at the gilded vanity table for a few minutes before she realized that she'd fallen still. Earnest was somewhere behind her readying himself for bed. Every now and then he would appear in the vanity mirror and she would watch him a bit absently. At the moment, he seemed to be trying to find a mate for the sock that he held pinched between two fingers. There it was. No, upon closer inspection, that wasn't it at all.

Reverie hadn't told her husband that they were going to have another child. Maybe partly because she wasn't positive that they were. The alternative, she thought, should have felt abhorrent to her but at the moment she was feeling particularly numb. Didn't she love children? Especially her own? The one that she already had was a lovely little girl who brought her more joy than anything. Felicity gave a tinkling little laugh from her crib just then, only adding to the damning weight that Reverie felt pulling her shoulders down and defensively in. She did love children, and yes, especially her own, but anymore, gaining happiness just seemed like building in exploitable weaknesses to a life that already felt so unpredictable.

Catching her own gaze in the mirror made her feel suddenly foolish. She looked like a cornered mouse. Really, it likely boiled down to how hard she'd been working, and the knowledge that she'd have to give up the practice of her Caste soon in order to protect the baby. This was great news, she was just holding herself back from enjoying it. Being somewhat useless in the wards meant she could travel and study, spend a little more time with Felicity and maybe regain the part of herself that she lost, though she wasn't sure where or when.

Race: Short-Lived (Dena Nehelian)
Caste: Black Widow
Birth Territory: Dena Nehele
Home Territory: Dena Nehele

Birthright Jewel: Uncut White
Offering Jewel: Cut Rose

Role: Pint-Sized Bad Ass
Faction: Shaos Guild

Appearance

Play By: Christina Ricci
Distinguishing Features: At 5'1", Masilda is a walking snarl. When among enemies or strangers, she carries herself with enough ferocity to rattle even the predatory types.

Personality

Personality:

Masilda's contrary nature was evident since she was old enough to wipe her own ass. She had a habit of taking the opposing view just for the sake of the fight and not backing down not even after being beaten there. It all came from a place of uncertainty and fear, but try telling her that and she just might go for your eyes. All she knew was that nothing was guaranteed in life and that she had to fight for anything she wanted, so fight she did.

Less impulsive as an adult but with a personality so much larger than her diminutive frame, she's no less eager to clash. Experience has proven that fast and fierce are a recipe for success. Aggressive is her comfort zone. Tasks that require her to keep her cool aren't her forte. She claims an inherent inability, but when the stakes are high, she tends to make it work which points to this being a choice, not a limitation. Either way, she doesn't do well when a situation requires her to hide her true self. Cloaking herself in sight shields is one thing, but hiding rage behind a smile isn't among her strengths.

Tending to be quiet and aloof, it's a lack of trust, not fear, that prompts her. She's glad to work alone and in most cases, prefers it. Her impulsive nature rules her out for some deep cover contracts, but make her perfect for others that require a hard and fast resolution. Being underestimated is an edge she likes to bank on. This is usually easy enough but hiding her caste, jewels or both almost always guarantees success there.

Masilda prefers the wings to the stage. When it comes to Tantalus performances, she'd rather take an ulterior assignment. She doesn't like wearing false faces and she'd be damned if she was going to play the child or lost forlorn woman simply because she was a proper size for the role. It suits her best to help in other ways or even just to watch. She loves the sound of Raluca's many voices, and really, most everything else about the woman.

Otherwise, Masilda likes to stay busy. She likes proving people wrong and she loves doing what others think that she can't. Textbook firecracker. Dynamite comes in small packages.

Likes:
  • Fighting. Not necessarily with her fists. She likes to inflict pain and that can be done a number of ways. With a tongue as sharp as her claws, she will cut an enemy down with whatever she thinks will do the most damage.
  • Raluca. Raluca tends to be the exception to every rule about Masilda. She's mean and snippy except with Raluca, avoids being close except with Raluca, can't be talked down except by Raluca. A better mother than her own had been, Raluca is the center of Masilda's universe.
  • Trickery. From pranks to poison, she likes to be unexpected. It's one of her hallmark traits. People tend to either love or hate her for her penchant for pulling jokes on others in the guild. Frankly, this is as close to a love language as she gets. For rivals and foes, however, she gladly gets much more dark and murderous with her intent, liking to switch things up before she becomes too predictable.

Dislikes:
  • Pretentiousness. Not much to explain here. Anyone who think that they are better than anyone else based on what they own, their jewels, guild, whatever--these people piss Masilda off.
Assholes come in every size. She doesn't devote enough time in conversation to dig past all of the facades to find out who someone truly is and feels she just doesn't have the time or fucks to put into it.
  • Unfamiliar Territory. Whether physical locations or Craft she's not experienced before,
Masilda tends to stick with what she knows. She does continue to learn, but she doesn't like coming across something she hadn't already learned about. It puts her at a distinct disadvantage and she hates disadvantages. People say that she's quick on her feet, but really, a lot of that has to do with knowing what she's dealing with. She hates to lose this edge.
  • Cold. A holdover from her childhood, out of all the things she was glad to leave behind,
being cold is the most oft remembered, the most reviled. Masilda is always the first to tap her jewels to warm herself or a room, even with others tend to make do just fine.

Fears:
  • Being Alone. She was fine when it was what she was used to, but having been given Raluca, she worries what life would be like without her strange family. She's opened herself to more relationships in the past few years, but none strike her the same. If something happened to Raluca, would she find someone that she cared about even half as much? What would it feel like to be without that warmth?
  • Failing. Masilda's been something of a prodigy. Not that she was born amazing or anything, but just that she's learned a lot in a short time because she applied herself. She likes success and everything that comes with it, the pay, recognition, respect. But she's been dealing with a consistently better class of people the better she gets herself and wonders when she'll find herself as the least capable of any bunch. Worse, what if she falls on her face, falls out of favor,
     or shames the guild?
  • Affection. With Raluca as the exception, Masilda disguises her anxiety as simply not needing anyone else. So many people use emotions to take advantage of others. Her pride would take a huge blow if she opened herself up to someone only to find out that they were using her. And of course, then she'd just want to kill them. It seems to her easy enough to avoid the softer emotions in general.

(Aunt/Uncle/Cousin rolls from Petra's application.)

History:

Just gonna put it out there that Masilda's dad Emil is a pervert, and yes, he got her mother, Adina, pregnant when she was barely of a capable age. Do the math if you want to clutch your pearls and tsk. They were both degenerates of a sort, though Adina more innocent than Emil. In the end neither turned out to be more than a blight. Think the parents from Roald Dahl's Matilda (happenstance) or the Thénardier's from Les Miserables. If you don't know either, these two are grasping, unapologetic scabs. The worst sort. Unredeemable.

Masilda is the oldest of her siblings, but it didn't end up meaning anything. She was treated just the same as the others, with absolute disdain, an effect that only ever changes when they can be of some use to their conniving parents. But to be honest, even to that end, the kids are more often forgotten than they are taken advantage of. Neglected and left to their devices, they often took to the streets instead of staying at home to be hungry and bored.

As a child still, she spent more time away from home than she did in it. Sleeping on the streets or at some flophouse was at least as suitable as the pile of blankets on the floor that she shared with her siblings. Her parents didn't seem to miss her, much less care. She never strayed far enough that she couldn't be tracked down. Everyone in the neighborhood knew who she was, so asking around worked just as well as looking for where the most trouble was--she was probably there.

As a natural Black Widow without a nurturing family, she didn't understand the changes in her body when she reached maturity. Reluctant to admit weakness, she hid her confusion and the building pain. She didn't understand what she was becoming, thought that maybe the increasingly terrible symptoms of poison build-up had something to do with becoming a woman. She wasn't close enough to anyone that was able to sense her caste and inform her. Anyone who did notice only imagined that she just knew.

She thought that it was just like any other ailment, that it might be awful for a while, but she would come through it. There would be hell to pay if she asked her parents to acquire a Healer. She'd not been home in awhile at that point anyhow. Crawling to an alleyway hovel, she meant to ride out her misery, hidden from the world that might seek to take advantage of her in her moment of weakness. She would have died there had Raluca not found her.

Masilda hadn't made saving her easy. Like a feral cat, she'd put up a valiant fight, all teeth and claws, thinking that her savior was nothing of the sort. Delirious and sick nearly to death, Ralcua had been kind to not just leave her to her agony. She took Masilda in and dutifully cared for her despite the awful reception she'd received, seeming to not even notice the fight in the young girl. After her snake tooth was drained, it took some time before Masilda was clear of the effects of the venom. Raluca had given her her space, providing for her the whole time, allowing her to come around on her own terms. It was a lovely strategy because when Masilda did come around, she came all the way around.

In her entire life, Masilda had never been loved. No one had ever cared for her either, not on a personal or physical level. The only assistance she'd ever received in life had been reciprocal. Tit for tat. Her own parents only did anything in hopes that their children would be a proper retirement package. They were simply too stupid to maintain the interest there. Raluca informed them that she was Masilda's mother now and though met with confused stares and a weak attempt at arguing with her, Emil and Adina had been easily silenced. From then on, Masilda was Raluca's, and Raluca was Masilda's heart.

With matching jewels and caste, and Raluca being such a strong creature, Masilda was awed by her, inspired by her. Training under the Black Widow had been a given. Raluca didn't coddle her except by ensuring that she had every opportunity to be incredible. Integrating with Tantalus and eventually the Shaos had been inevitable. Masilda proved to be an eager student, even gracious, thankful for the training to be better, stronger, and to match a vicious bite to her already feral bark.

She still has a lot to learn but remains keen on developing her skills. Though she might have been able to run some corner of the slums, she wouldn't have been content there. Each success and mastery pushes her into a new class of people and a new set of problems. She's no longer a scrappy street kid (though her origins remain fairly obvious to those who know her), she's a Shaos guildsman. Instead of surrounded by cretins, she's surrounded by peers whose mere presence motivates her to push her limits.

Common Grounds / Winter of Writers Guide for Newbies
« on: Dec 08, 17, 07:28:21 PM »
Winter of Writers is a seasonal event at the end of the year that encompasses a lot of ways to get extra points and items. You really don't want to miss out on this. Many writers plan all year for it and you should too! Last year was my first Winter of Writers. I learned some things you might find useful.

The Science
  • You can give away items that are purchased or won via the auctions and raffles. You can't do that with shop items (except in v. rare cases, I believe.)
  • People will snipe auction items at the last minute. Don't take for granted that you haven't noticed anyone showing interest in any particular item.
  • People will buy items for others. For instance, someone not having room in their ratio for another Ebon Gray or Black descent doesn't mean they won't be interested in picking it up for a friend. Don't count anyone out on any item.
  • You can't combine Winsol items with Shop items. This means you can't purchase a Discard a Roll for a character and then later apply a Winsol item to it or some such combination. (FYI it was done in the past, so don't let old apps confuse you. The kibosh was put on. It is pining for the fjords. It is no more. It has ceased to be.)
  • Newbie Raffles. If you joined the site within the last 12 months, you are a "newbie" and eligible for the special newbies only raffles. The only way to earn entries into the Newbie Raffles is via IC/OOC posts to the board. (Points vary. Refer to official threads.) The Rub: Someone who joined at the end of November this year will probably have fewer entries than someone who joined in December of the year prior. Nevertheless, both writers will only have access to the Newbie Raffles in the current year and never again thereafter. At least next Winter of Writers you'll have a lot more points to work with.
  • Charity Raffles. Everyone (Newbie or not) can participate in the Charity Raffles. The only way to earn entries to the Charity Raffles is to donate real cashmoney to one of the approved charities.
  • Things change. Always refer to the official posts for current information on this stuff.

General Recommendations:
  • Newbies: Make friends early and don't hesitate to show interest in plots and characters.
It can be a drag to have a snowball's chance in hell of winning anything because you're new. But folks who have faith that you'll stick around and interact with them might be more inclined to hook you up. There were a couple writers last year who gave out quite a few items. Now I ain't suggesting that you take advantage of this or beg for folks to buy you stuff, I'm just saying it might be useful to be less shy and get into the game sooner rather than later.
  • Budget and/or Research.
How much are you willing to spend on an item? If you get it, can you afford other items you want or that Discard a Roll from the shop for your new app? A little foresight might save you a headache.

Auction Recommendations:
  • Check who's around.
Even if the Users Online shows no one around, believe me, some folks are lurking without being signed in. HBC has access to a "hidden" status, but it will still say "X Hidden Users" or some such. You might not know which one of them it is, but at least you'll know how many of them are about. (If they're not lurking while not signed in, same as anyone.) So what you see isn't exactly indicative. However, you can find out where users are by clicking "# Guests, # Users (X Buddies)" immediately underneath the "Users Online" heading (Bottom of the front page). Try it. (Must be logged in for it to work.) This way if someone's camping a page because they intend to snipe, you may be able to see that you will be fighting with at least X amount of people for it. Related: You can load up a more recent tab to fool folks about where you are. My understanding is that the most recent page you loaded is the one that shows on the list of who's where. Either way, if anyone didn't know about this before, they do now, and you shouldn't trust what you see no matter what! ;)
  • If you really want to win an item, you really need to be there when the auction ends.
There's a ton of last-minute action on the fancier items. Don't take for granted that your high bid will win. This ain't eBay, someone can bid one point higher than you and nab it.
  • Prioritize items during the Silent Auctions.
I'm not telling you what to do, but do this. You don't have an amazing chance at winning more than one of the more coveted items since those will probably come down to the last few seconds. As far as timing, bid on the items you want the least first. (This is if you're waiting until the last minute to bid.) If you want these items least, other people might feel the same way. Those other people might not be refreshing any windows except their favorite item so you have a better chance of getting less valuable items without following the auction down to the last seconds. You want your favorite item to be last as you want to be the closest to the time the auction closes with your bid. Might not be as difficult to get a Double Random Birthright Roll as a more valuable item so you may be able to sacrifice some time there. The Flash Auctions happen one at a time so you don't have to worry about this during those.
  • Consider waiting til the last minute to show interest in an item.
My thinking is that it's better to let folks get comfortable with the idea that they might be one of few people interested in an item. If they're smart, they won't take anything for granted as I've said, but hey, if it's an easy effort, why not?
  • Don't be too last minute if you can't afford to.
Use your best judgment here. Whether or not you have slower internet speeds, sometimes pages take longer to load. If your post data doesn't make it to the server in time, you might find that your bid in the last few seconds was too late anyhow. (Last year some folks did put in bids after the auction ended so it does happen.) If you want to be super prepared (and probably overdo it) you can stop all streaming and porn downloads to ensure your internet is prepared to send that post quick-like.
  • Don't get goaded into a point battle early on.
If someone seems dead set on one-upping you, consider not responding right away. You'll just be raising the cost of the item for the both of you. You may be able to get it cheaper if you ignore their aggressive posturing, let their last bid stand, and save your own efforts for the last hurrah. They're unlikely to continue to outbid only themselves. (Not saying they won't, bc trollers gonna troll!) There's at least one active player who admits to bidding for the sole purpose of making you spend more money so that you have less money to bid against them on other items. (Dick move, sure, but can't lie and say it's not a good strategy!)
  • Disable post warnings. (MOST Important tip, IMO)
Go to your profile. Click "Modify Profile" and select "Look and Layout." Scroll down, check the box that says "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." Long story short: If you camp an item in order to snipe it at the last second, the board will not register your post if any other post has been added to the thread since you clicked reply. (Basically, if someone else waits until the last 30 seconds to post but you wait until the last 10, your post won't get added and you may not have time to post again before the auction is over.) If this doesn't make sense to you, do this anyways, there's no reason not to. Trust me on this.

I've purposefully not gone into too much detail because things are prone to change and because the most reliable sources of information are the official threads. I'm not site staff; I'm just another writer and an information junkie who would have been glad to read some of this before going into it last year.

My name is Starling and I approve of this message.

Distinguishing Features: Tall. Hair in his eyes, hands in his pockets.

Personality

Personality:

Rafe tends toward detachment. He doesn't require the support of family or his peers to function properly. Self-sufficient. Like his father and grandfather before him, he's not a talker. Preferring absolute freedom in all things, he doesn't like feeling indebted, sworn, trapped, forced, or without control. Rafe isn't the type to change his mind on the fly, but he enjoys the option well enough to defend it.

He doesn't do anything 'for the sake of appearances,' not without good cause. He doesn't participate in the common pleasantries of court. If he doesn't like someone, their name, their dress, their face, he's likely to say so. If he's unhappy, he tends to show it. If angry, though, he will hide the extent of it to mask plans for retaliation.

Rafe likes to sweat and the pleasure of achieving through effort. Martial arts are for fitness and discipline. Red Moon Houses everywhere have a tab with his name on it. He'll dance if the mood is right and has a remarkable talent for it. He's often seen at finer establishments. He fits well among the impetuous elite but would fade to obscurity among them if not for the celebrity status of his Jewels. He's more a watcher than an actor when it comes to the recklessness of his companions but he's still very much entertained by it. Gambling, cards, dining, women, they share these pastimes. He never grew too old to enjoy river swimming. He prefers detailed work with his hands like drawing and origami. Darby taught him archery and the art of the hunt but Kort taught him to work wood with a knife and chisel.

He'll watch anything that's competitive on an intellectual level which doesn't rule out races or fights. Since he was a kid, he's had a crush on a Dhemlanese dancer. He collects crystals and images of her. He's always loved to travel maybe because it proves he's free to. Though he's not attached to material possessions, he would be beside himself if anything were to happen to his carefully curated collections of maps, locks, and keys.

Protocol and religion weigh the same to him--not much. Mostly he can't find a reason to care very strongly. He can dance the dance and follows the tenets to fit in and make things simple, but he's hardly a stickler. Yes, he believes that Light Jewels are lesser than. He's not heard a reason compelling enough to cause him to examine his beliefs. The Dark Religion suits his personal agenda regarding the status of his Light-Jeweled mother.

Some people are intimidated by him but by itself, this doesn't hold his attention. He doesn't throw his weight around for nothing but he will hurt people to get what he wants. There is mutual respect between Rafe and his father. They don't speak much and don't need to. Darby and Kort are exempt from his judgment and are the only people Rafe has ever cared to impress. Rafe openly spurns his mother for her part in his childhood or lack thereof. He resents how she used, caged, and deserted him. Women, in general, are considered self-serving and conniving, not worthy of trust. Coworkers and associates are fine; lovers are better.

He can't help what he can't help and isn't sure if he should be trying. The unwanted bond between he and Mikaela has complicated everything. What comes naturally to Rafe feels like giving entirely too much of himself to someone who doesn't deserve it. As a person, he appreciates Mikaela's efforts to serve a purpose. If she wore darker Jewels, she might have grown up a celebrated Queen. Still, the things that others would laud her for aren't things that he cares much about. (Children, charity, and the like.) He doesn't like being tied to her or that it's difficult to decide to break those ties. Conversely, his possessiveness is growing. He can't control his desire to protect his Queen and all the other things that come with a Darkness-forged bond.

Likes:
  • Decrypting the Unknown. There's a joy in discovering a solution to a problem or puzzle. Rafe has had a hard time accepting that something can't be done or can only be done one way. If it 'can't' be done, you can probably find him looking for a way.
  • Quiet. He spent over half of his life in nearly soundless worlds. His father and grandfather spoke little and his mother was rarely around to make any noise. Quiet feels normal to him, gentle sounds as comforting as a warm fire.
  • Other Cultures. Rafe was always very aware that his work with the leaders of the Dark Religion might take him outside the borders of Glacia. That had a lot to do with the career choice. He loves to see customs and colors up close, bringing the pictures that he saw as a child to life.

Dislikes:
  • Being Told What To Do. Or Night forbid, how to do it. If he needs to know, he'll ask. He enjoys coming up with his own methods which are often a more efficient use of his time and give him something to be proud of.
  • Jewel Envy. Some become antagonistic just because they want to prove something to or in front of the Red-Jeweled Prince. It gets old. It's as though they think his pride comes from a cold Red rock and not who he is or the things he's accomplished. It's insulting, really. Rafe's never been one to go into anything throwing his real or perceived weight around anyway, only when provoked.
  • Necessities. Couldn't the same Darkness that refills his reservoir day by day also refill his stomach? Erase fatigue? Meals and sleep, among other irritations, take up time but going without has immediate consequences.

Fears:
  • Confinement. Ever since his mom took him from his dad, Rafe has had issues with being places he doesn't want to be. Still, there's always been some way out even if temporary. Rafe's never been anywhere he couldn't get out of if the urge was strong enough.
  • Noma's Freedom. Noma belongs in a collar but her being there is hardly the limit of what Rafe has done to the woman. Her liberation is one of few things sure to disturb an otherwise well-ordered mind but this would hardly be the only consequence.
[li$i]Letting His Father Down. Rafe bases a lot of his self-esteem on how well he's treated his father and grandfather. He brought them out of difficulty and put them back on top where hard-working men like them belong. If any of his business decisions reversed things for the men it would hit him harder than anything else could.

    Craft Strengths:
    • Emotional Manipulation. Better than learning to make someone do something Rafe prefers to make them want to. It gives him the option to repeat his crimes as long as no one notices. By the time he was a teen he'd learned the art of tugging on someone's heartstrings or pissing them off but having applied his Prince mind to the task he's since transcended mere sport.
    • Mentally Lightfooted. Psychic acrobatics. Rafe traverses minds the way an experienced coach does the winds. He can scout the sensitive territory without setting off unknown traps or other sorts of triggers. Moreover, in many cases, he slips right past mental barriers without breaking anything at all.

    Craft Weaknesses:
    • Compulsion Craft. For as much beauty as there is in the way that Rafe is able to paint with emotion there is an equal or greater amount of crudeness in the lack of competence he has with forcing action. Only Jeweless Blood don't scoff at his lackluster performance and even they can usually detect his attempts.
    • Mind Delving. Similarly, and more unfortunately, Rafe has no skill with uncovering the secrets of memory or intention--anything beyond the realm of emotions. For as much as he can traipse about one's mind unimpeded, much of it is beyond his comprehension.

    Life Story
    Family:
    Mother: Noma - witch - Yellow - Tiger Eye (b. 137 AP)
Father: Darby - Jeweless Blood (b. 142 AP)
Grandfather: Kort - Jeweless Blood (b. 124 AP)
Siblings: A handful of half-siblings from his mother but neither one of them really know who they are.

    History:

Rafe was lucky that his mother Noma, a fickle and inane woman, had carried him to term at all. She surrendered him to his father, Darby, before he was a year old. Darby and his own father were stoic working-class farmers without women in their lives to help care for an infant but they weren't about to turn on their own blood and so they made do. When his Prince Caste became evident, the men celebrated their powerful heir, knowing that the boy would one day wear a set of Jewels.

For eight years, the young boy was raised by his father and grandfather. When he came away from his Birthright ceremony with a Blood Opal, it was guaranteed that he would become a very sought-after if not also influential man. Not a week later Noma came to claim her son. Immediately denying paternity to Darby she was able to swoop in and abduct her own discarded child and there was nothing to be done about it. This strange woman was suddenly his mother and everything familiar or treasured was left behind. It seemed wrong, but no one attempted to intervene for the boy or the men he was taken from.

Rafe was despondent and confused and lashed out between bouts of tearful withdrawal. Noma didn't have the time or patience, she would tell him. When she was sick of dealing with him, she'd just take off and leave him alone which was really what they both wanted. She was gone more than she was home. Without discipline her boy became a bit of a hellion, but who was going to tell him to straighten up, the maid?

From a family of esteemed and elite performers, Noma was a dancer in a renowned troupe that traveled the realm. Eager for prestige more than anything, she still had no intention of being a mother but the boy was going to be her ticket to all good things that had ever been just out of her grasp. As for Rafe, she held him for as long as it took her to get him to her townhouse, put him down, and never picked him up again.

Despite their impaired relationship he always looked forward to watching his mother dance even if it was only alone in her studio. Noma herself was oblivious but guests tended to be unnerved by the eerily quiet and potent child. When an instructor took exception to his presence she conceded by bringing Rafe an instructor of his own to keep him distracted. At first, her son resented the gesture, somehow knowing that it was meant to sweep him aside, but the methodical structures of martial arts appealed to him on a level that he didn't yet understand. When Noma was away the studio was his and he made good use of it.

Without toys or companions, Rafe spent a lot of his remaining time in his thoughts. He did a lot of work on paper, practicing his penmanship, drawing, and writing fanciful stories about the places on the colorful map over the mantle. Once he'd mastered the piano to his satisfaction he looked for new diversions. He spent months studying locks just so that he could have the joy of having broken into his mother's bedroom. He started by reverse engineering the Craft he used to secure his own locks. That was even easier than learning the basics of defeating a physical lock. He tampered with other doors, strong boxes, and luggage, but none of them were heavily secured enough to be much practice.

So he meddled with whatever containers found their way into the home. The satchel that the cleaning lady carried with her and the toolbox that the carpenter brought when the banister cracked. An actual locksmith had to be called no fewer than ten times due to his tinkering which was an opportunity to watch and ask questions. The fear of punishment had bled right out of him by the time he found a way into Noma's room and there wasn't an ounce of shame left in him either. His father had always told him that something earned was infinitely more valuable than something granted.

Young Rafe's exploits left him wondering just how much he could misbehave before someone did something about it. Upon finding that limit he challenged it. At what point did a 'no' become a 'yes?' Over time, the distance between the two became easier to negotiate. When the call for sympathy no longer opened doors for him he was already familiar enough with the shape of emotions and began to summon them as if dogs by name. He learned when to press buttons and when it was better to appeal to emotion even if he had to elicit it first.

Accepting that no one was going to raise him he enrolled himself back in school--the nice one that the uniformed kids who passed in the street attended. The wiry kid was just foreign enough to the other children to never quite fit. He was rarely outright ridiculed but it was clear that he didn't belong. It was difficult to joke with Rafe who treated things so literally or seriously. He didn't know how to play or have fun and had to be taught was sportsmanship was. Having never had companions his own age, he was more mature than the other children. Doing as his parents, Rafe scoffed at those with no discipline or self-control. It didn't earn him any points among his peers and neither did his penchant for emulating the ostentatious men in his mother's trashy magazines.

About the time that he hit puberty, the Dark Religion was beginning to gain momentum. It was the talk of the town in every town. No one had to tell Rafe that Light Jeweled Blood were flawed. His mother was Light Jeweled. Anyone who was close to him was Jeweless and according to the Priestesses these people were to be sustained and protected. Darby and Kort were Jeweless and he liked them best so it all seemed to add up well enough. Noma became slightly more attentive when she realized what it all might mean for her but on the whole, she remained the same. She never imagined that her detached son would allow her to be shamed. Rather, she would hitch her star to his if needed and let his celebrity keep her afloat in the courts.

Rafe still saw his father from time to time, especially as he got older. Every now and then he'd just walk off and charter a coach to where he knew he could find the man. Sometimes he'd bring a trophy stolen from his house to present to Kort who would slap his knee and laugh until he couldn't breathe. Other times they would just build a fire and stare past the flames into the trees. The men cultivated bonds often without saying a word.

Rafe didn't develop any deep relationships in his final years of school. He was bored by the majority of the others. Most of them reminded him too much of Noma and her grasping. It seemed that everyone was false with everyone else and it was all for some intangible advantage or perceived achievement. He played that game for a time but the constantly shifting nature of purchased loyalty frustrated him. Rafe didn't think that he was better than anyone because he was mean spirited like that, he just figured himself objectively superior.

Excelling in his studies felt empty. For one, the competition was sparse and thus uninspiring but on the few occasions that he hadn't done well, Noma had just bought his grades. So Rafe branched out and tried new challenges where he was able. While still attending school, he helped Darby secure some land and livestock and took on a silent partner type role in the business. It helped the burgeoning adult feel significant and to channel some of his excess energy. The leftovers were spent on harmless youthful pranks like stealing for the hell of it, setting fire to fields, and beating some unlucky Light-Jeweled bastard within an inch of his life, whatever the boys were up to that day. Once he convinced an older girl that she was his Queen just so that he could get in her pants. He wasn't sure if he was more proud of that or of how he'd guided her father into looking at it as a learning experience.

Money and apparent rank made Rafe an automatic member of the good ol' boys club but he wasn't super attached to his people, privileged Dark Jewels, jocks and the like, others who were approximately his age from various courts. His Blood Opal made him a person of interest even as a young adult but it was his initiative that brought him to the courts so early.

He made himself indispensable even in menial tasks showing that he was willing to start from the bottom and work his way up but also that he didn't intend to engage in a dick measuring contest with anyone simply because he thought himself more powerful. He would serve anyone whom it made sense to serve. In this way, he was a help to many and a threat to few and it earned him his fair share of respect, clout, and the breathing room he desired to do as he wished.

After his Offering Ceremony, the pull to join a specific court instead of mingling among them became more insistent but Rafe avoided long term commitments by volunteering to head up various projects instead. He did a lot of census work for various municipalities as they worked to better understand the distribution of Light-Jeweled Blood in their domain. It was busy work and at times mundane, but the knowledge of what he was helping Glacia prepare for was deeply gratifying and made him a very relevant man.

When the time came to introduce Noma to her newest piece of jewelry, Rafe threw a party but not before the satisfaction of locking that metal ring around her neck. He would have given the control ring to Darby if he could have gotten away with it just to prove how little she mattered to him. She'd thought that having a powerful son would protect her somehow, but she'd conveniently forgotten about the whole part where she'd never been a mother to him.

The success of the family farms meant that his father and grandfather were able to hire more than enough help to maintain their holdings. Rafe gifted Noma's townhouse to them and stays there himself when he's not working, all four of them under one roof.

Rafe found his way to the Dark-Jeweled Queen of Salo, the elder Valdis sister. His expert administration of projects inspired by the spread of the Dark Religion had made this theme his specialty. Lady Valdis retained him as an advisor and overseer of such matters. He had never meant to stay forever, but he found his Queen in her sister, Lady Mikaela Valdis which has since regrettably complicated Rafe's very uncomplicated existence. Meya, always unkind to her younger, more outstanding sibling, appointed him to her First Circle as a jab to Mikaela, keeping her sister's male close to herself instead. It wasn't difficult for Meya to convince Mikaela that he didn't like her as he himself has never been sure what he thinks of the wisp. Disconcerted, Rafe agreed to the appointment, if for nothing else to avoid scrutiny and the questioning of his allegiance to the Dark Religion.

    Character in Play:

Meya Valdis was a pain in the ass. She'd sent for him round about the same time that she had apparently expected a court full of callers. Rafe had felt the excess of gathered bodies through the tall double doors before he saw them. Hell, he'd heard them, as well, milling about noisily as they waited for an audience with the Queen. Looking as though he'd not give a rat's ass if he had a room full of them, Rafe pushed through what appeared to be some semblance of organization.

Meya was seated on the dais at the other end of the room where she could still see each face in the crowd if she so desired. She did look up when she sensed Rafe there. Maybe she'd just sensed a sudden displeasure among her guests, too. Hard to say. There were two men with Lady Valdis at the moment, one an advisor who leaned toward the Queen's ear, the other was no one of consequence as far as Rafe could tell. Middle-aged, Jeweless, rich enough to at least rent the garish but bedecked velvet suit that he wore.

Rafe hadn't stopped moving since entering the room. Despite obstacles, he made his way straight toward Meya. Had anyone or anything proven bothersome to go around, he would have walked over, instead. He didn't like to be kept waiting and he certainly wasn't going to be seen doing so by those gathered.

The smallest smile twitched onto Meya's lips when she saw his determination. She lifted her head, and he swore she pushed her lips fuller as she watched him. Noticing it, Rafe hadn't seen her hand begin to come up. It was the simplest little gesture. All she did was raise that hand and push her palm out at him. Stop, she said without saying anything. Taken aback, Rafe didn't mean to, but he did, and then he was double angry--once for being brought there and unceremoniously dismissed, twice that he'd accidentally obeyed.

Curling a lip, Rafe shot her an inquisitive and daring look. In response, Meya smoothly turned her face away from him, a bright smile coming over her face as she returned to engage herself in the sound-shielded conversation. Fluidly, her hand returned to her lap and then things were as they had been as if Rafe wasn't even there at all.

She was lucky that she had so many guests. Did she know it? Rafe didn't like to make a scene when he could avoid it. It would only take one to be known as the hot-headed Red who threw a fit when he didn't get his way. True or not, it wasn't the name that he wanted to precede him.

Gritting his teeth, Rafe exhaled slowly, stretching the tension from his neck and rubbing a shoulder. With his head turned, he saw the garden through the windows. He was no botanist and cared most about flowers when they decorated a grave, but without appeared to offer much more space than within. Additionally, had Meya summoned him just to impress her friends with her ability to make the Red-Jeweled Prince wait around, he was going to make it clear that he wasn't hers to abuse. He'd still wait, though. Which pissed him off on its own.

Near growling, Rafe pulled his jacket taut over his shoulders, buttoning it again as he pressed through a line of prospects toward a door that seemed miles away. Generally speaking, people made way for him. Those who didn't were met with a dire glower. A uniformed servant saw him coming and pressed the door open but not with enough gumption, so, still fiddling with his buttons, Rafe knocked it open the rest of the way with the weight of his body passing through it.

As the door closed behind him, the clamor grew quieter and quieter until it was little more than white noise. A chill passed through Rafe, making his head feel large and stuffy, the electric sizzle zinging down the sides of his face and into his arms before it shot out to his fingertips. With his eyes slid shut, he took one full breath in and out. He was still angry, but at least now nothing could add to his frustration.

Smoothing his hands over the front of his now-fastened coat, Rafe gave the bottom a good tug and then resolved to open his eyes and made his way into the gardens in search of a little relaxation. When he did open his eyes, a small woman was looking back at him. Instinctively, Rafe knew that he knew her and so at first, he struggled to think from where. Her eyes seemed larger than they should be for the size of her face, but they weren't unbecoming, either. The rest of her features seemed to merely accentuate them.

There was someone else there with her, but he didn't matter. She did, though. He knew she did and it frustrated him to no end that he didn't know why. It all happened very quickly, the revelation that unfolded before him. The Queen in front of him rose as if summoned, dirt falling from her fingers, forgotten for now. Her soul called to him and his own responded in kind, verifying everything that she and he both knew.

This beautiful and cursed woman, this Light-Jeweled Queen was his, making him forever linked to her.

    "FUCK!"

    Silje Frisk

If all that we are is two matching scars...

GLACIA - ROSE TO OPAL - QUEEN
    CHARACTER SHEET

    Summary:

Blindsided by the plot to escape Glacia, Silje was forced to decide between two fates that could not coexist. She loves her brother dearly, more than anyone, and couldn't imagine a life apart from him and yet he continues to cause her pain. She's convinced that he could have somehow done more to achieve the full depth of his jewels, the depth that she, his twin, was able to achieve. Then when she thought that she might have righted the course of her life and come to terms with the light-jeweled status of her siblings, he sweeps her away into the mountains and away from the territory that she meant to live and die in.

She can't imagine that the life outside of Glacia will be anything like what had been meticulously plotted out for her back at home. She would have cared for her brothers and treated them well, collars or not. It was just a piece of jewelry, part of a costume. It wouldn't change who they were, or who they were to her. Now the roles are reversed. Instead of her being honored to care for them, Sixten has forced her to rely on him, already putting her in danger, and for what? Does he think that she could not have protected him? She despises the idea of being reliant on him even as he now leads her across the realm toward the unknown. But she could not have let him go alone.

Horrified and embarrassed, Silje navigates the encounter cautiously, lest she raise the ire of either the prince or the malevolent priestess she calls Grandmother.

    Gnaeus Sannus

Is it any wonder I can't sleep?

HAYLL - BROKEN TO TIGER EYE - WARLORD
    CHARACTER SHEET

    Summary:

Darker even than he seems, Gnaeus is an unlikely champion of the innocent. He prowls circles around the healer he's sworn to protect, half-feral, and ready to sacrifice everything in her defense. She embodies only virtue he recognizes, all others being tainted, or well on their way to deserving a righteous cleansing. He's not unconvinced that he could be the one to wield that justice-honed axe. Centuries of abuse have seasoned the dark urges that swirl in his gut, compelling him to address the evil in the realm before the Blood call down the next Purge.

Maerina is all that keeps him centered, docile (enough for her needs), and occupied lest his thoughts turn to the war he's been planning in his head for almost half a millennium. There's still enough purity in his world to hold him at bay, but it may not always be the case.

    Active Threads:

    Fear and the Fever
Autumn, 191. Gnaeus accompanies Maerina to the Caelius home in order for her to see to the glutton Otho Tullius' sickness. His wife Laurentia Caelius is an old enemy of Gnaeus' and he both suspects and hopes for foul play. (Immediately following To Speak of the Devil)

    Out by the Sea
Autumn, 191. Maerina Augustine meets with her friend, the Senator Gaetano Accorsi at his home on the sea. Gnaeus accompanies her as her escort and immerses himself in the luxurious surroundings, wondering if it's possible to live in excess without being consumed by it.

A Boy's Best Friend Is His Mother
Early Winter, 192. The last time Gnaeus saw his mother was the year of The Purge. Ashamed of his disfigurement and not willing to be a burden, he walked away from her that day and has never returned home. He's sent letters and even shadowed the house on occasion, but never worked up the nerve to say hello again. Maerina has restored him to the man that his mother would recognize. He knows that he owes it his mother to let her see him healthy once more, but it's been so long since he felt that kind of affection.

    What Music They Make
Early Winter, 192. Out looking for trouble, Gnaeus stumbles upon a dead man, and meets the enigmatic witch (Corin Rippar) who made him that way.

    Ode to a Concealed Spectre
    Spring, 192. Caelissine Agrippina

    Completed Threads:

    To Speak of the Devil
Autumn, 191. Dead memories come back to life when the son of an old enemy ends up the Augustine household requesting help from his Lady Maerina Augustine. Gnaeus has to decide between playing nice or discovering whether or not revenge looks good on him.

    Play-Style:
The majority of my writing experience is from freeform chat rooms so I'm still adjusting to forum writing. I have a difficult time switching between characters which slows me down at times. I prefer faster-paced threads that work more like chat environments, but I'm glad to get all the words I can! As a rule, I respond to posts in the order received but I may prioritize responses to writers who do the same. If I'm slow responding to other threads, it's probably just me fighting with my brain to switch gears. If it's anything else, I'll keep you in the loop!
    Adoptions:
I think all of my characters have family rolls that I'd love to have picked up! Drop me a line if you see something that interests you. I plan to have the information organized better in the near future!

Common Grounds / Practical Way to Track Your C's Timeline?
    « on: Aug 26, 16, 02:58:41 AM »
Basically want tips on the best way to decide birth years. I'm only working on the one short-lived C atm, so I don't need any long, drawn out timeline necessarily. He's young, like three notable things have happened in his life.

Buuuut... it took me like two hours and lots of eraser to sit down and figure out exactly when his family members were born and their own significant life events to ensure that it all fit together nicely.

Any time saving tips from the vets?

How you found Blood Rites? Phinneas did it.

    Contact Information:
    Discord: Grimace#6276

    Favorite Black Jewels Book:

Other Information: I've never heard of Blood Rites or Anne Bishop. Phinn slid me a link to the site and lured me here with the promise of quality content. I'm superbly overwhelmed at the moment. I'll need to get a book or three under my belt before I feel prepared to make a character and write it well. I felt that if I didn't get these easy preliminary steps out of the way, I might put off doing it at all. (This isn't the first time that I've been told about the site.)

I started writing in the Realm of Elahrair on WBS, hit a few stops between there and Ethereal Realms, and in the past few years have popped in and out of Infinity Bound. I've always been known as Star or blackstarling.

My grammar isn't great (think too many commas or periods and zero semicolons), but I think I usually I make up for it in the content. I intend to continue the investment I've started into the site and read up, cross my t's and dot my i's, and hopefully it will pay off for me, and for you guys letting me join in. I'm severely anxious about not doing it right or making some faux pas and will probably take it all at a snails pace. I'm told it's quite a site once you comprehend it all.
