Even in this heightened state, Ryder was still in control of his actions enough to warn Killer of the coming storm. That was the only way he knew how to describe it. At times it felt invigorating, like ocean winds beating against his face. Other times he felt like he was drowning, barely able to breathe or even think. And when he emerged, he was always bruised and aching, refusing to allow the harm to fall on his partners without taking his fair share of the pain and discomfort.

He had wondered, briefly, if Kibeth would somehow become the focus. She was his Queen, after all. But the connection between them, while Darkness blessed and wound deeply around the very core of him, was not what the primal beast within him craved. It wanted Killer. It had always wanted Killer.

He had done what he could until now to protect Killer from this part of him. The scars the Green Prince bore across his heart and mind were deep and inflicted from his earliest memories. Part of protecting his Prince meant protecting both of them from things that might send Killer into a panic. His rut had seemed high on that list.

Ryder watched as the realization dawned over the Green Jeweled Prince. Killer reassured him that he couldn't hurt him in anyway he didn't like and Ryder growled with need, even as something deep and knotted began to relax within him. Killer would not deny him and he wasn't afraid. Ryder watched suspiciously as his love rose into a crouch. When he broke into a run Ryder's lips curled into a smile. He even managed to wait an entire second before launching himself after the smaller man.

Long legs eating the ground between them, it was barely a matter of heart beats before his arms slid around Killer and pulled him tightly against his own body. The Prince didn't fight. He offered himself up, with word and action, and Ryder claimed him with hands and teeth, lowering his head so he could drag them over the skin of Killer's throat.

*Mine*, he replied along their thread as he walked Killer backwards until his body was caught between Ryder's and the door of their cabin. "MINE," the beast echoed as it spilled its need from Ryder's lips. "I need you. Now."

Ryder had known it was coming.

He had always managed to be away before. It was difficult and each one seemed rougher than the last, but it had been worth it if it meant he could protect Killer from the full weight of his need and focus. Before now, he wasn't sure that Killer could have properly handled it. Even now, he questioned the sanity of his choice.

It was too late now. The choice was made. He could only pray Killer would forgive him after it was over if there was anything to forgive him for.

Ryder knew what they meant to each other. He didn't need their relationship defined in a clear outline to understand that the depth of his own feelings were reflected back to him in every glance that Killer gave him. They had agreements. They had understandings. They had these woods and this cabin and the Queen they shared.

But it hadn't always been like this. Each new milestone they crossed together required a contradictory mix of care and nonchalance that Ryder had become a master of. Except now, when he needed it most, it was nowhere to be found. He was a walking mountain of need. He could hardly contain the frantic energy that felt like it might boil over within him at any moment. It left him nearly vibrating.

He was aware of every muscle as he walked. Killer's voice washed over him, but it didn't fully register, not until his love was standing before him, walking backwards. The wind picked up, rustling Killer's curls and washing him in the other man's scent. He was just about to reach for him when Killer smiled and took off at a run.

Ryder let out a growl as he tore after him, quickly closing the distance between them as his much longer legs ate up the ground. Killer, however, had the advantage in the wooded area, able to dart away and under a thick branch that would have knocked Ryder out cold. His instincts screamed at him to seek his prey, to close in, capture, and claim.

A second time he almost had him, his fingers trailing over his back as the smaller man again slipped out of his grasp. His heart thundered in his chest. The crisp air brought a coolness to his lungs he had been longing for in ways he couldn't articulate. The beast within the Warlord Prince stretched and prowled, honing in on his prey.

They were almost to the cabin when Ryder slammed into Killer, taking them both down to the forest floor. He turned his body to shelter Killer from the blow of hitting the ground before continuing to roll them until he could look down at the other man pinned beneath him. His eyes were wild, but being this close to the focus of his every need helped soothe the restless beast.

Words were difficult to form, but he pulled them mercilessly from the depth of his mind. "No more running." His voice sounded ragged. "I don't want to hurt you on accident." Pressing his forehead to Killer's, he dragged out one last word and filled it with everything he possibly could.

"Please."

Rihland / Re: a lot of money for a little effort

Ryder was working even more than usual. His current workload had him travelling near constantly, which he loved, and away from Killer, which he hated. He popped back into their apartment whenever he could, even if it was just for an evening.

He knew it was difficult for Killer, too. He hadn’t wanted to serve in a Court to begin with, let alone as a member of a Queen’s Triangle. It helped that Ryder had gone with him, but he couldn’t just stop working anymore than Killer could have turned down this assignment. And now that Killer had more time, his assignment finally complete, Ryder was far busier.  In quiet moments, they lost themselves in each other. The rest of the time had been utter chaos.

He had sent Killer a thought along the Green that he was heading into a meeting and would be unavailable for a while. At least they could maintain their connection through their shared Green Craft. The witch he was going to see was someone he didn’t yet know well, but was very open to getting to know better. He had to be careful around Black Widows. Neither his Dark Jewel nor his caste protected him from one picking up a bit more about him than they were supposed to know.

While working, Ryder was in his element. His manners and Protocol both were excellent (Laurel would settle for nothing less), his smile brilliant, and his natural charisma carried him confidently through any doorway. The small insecurities that tugged at him had no place here.

“Lady Danielsen,” he said, holding out his hands in formal greeting before offering her his arm. ”I would like very much to join you.” His eyes shimmered as he looked down into hers, dwarfing her with both his height and the broadness of his muscled form. As well tailored as his suit was, there was no hiding the undeniable strength beneath. “Please. Lead the way.”

*Yes, baby. You can have that.*

They were the last words offered before Ryder set to granting his Prince everything he needed and exactly what he asked for. Killer's leg wrapped around him, pulling him closer, causing him to slide his body harder against the smaller man's. He groaned at the feel of his shaft pressed against Killer and was suddenly very certain that their clothing needed to be gone right fucking now.

With a growl, he rose up on his knees, looking at the man beneath him with raw and undisguised hunger. It was just for him, that look. Killer had struggled at various stages with who and what they were to each other. But in these moments, when it was just them, Ryder didn't have to hide or pretend. He could look at Killer with open desire and let the other man know exactly how much he was desired.

He reached down, large hands seizing Killer's pants and removing them roughly from his body. It was only once Killer was naked beneath him that he slowed, pausing to look down at the etched lines of Killer's body. If Ryder could do one thing with his life beyond taking down as many bat winged beasts as possible (May the Darkness see the wings withered from their backs), it would be to help Killer see himself the way that Ryder did. Soft fingertips traced down Killer's abs, and lower still, until he could trace a single finger along the silken smooth skin that brought another groan from his lips. His fingers grasped Killer firmly, slowly stroking him as he stared down into his eyes.

His own pants he vanished, his cock suddenly springing forward without the confinement of being pressed tight against his stomach. He reached for Killer's hand and brought it to wrap around him, mirroring the way he was gripping his Prince. *There is nothing but us right now. The world can burn. It's you, and me. And this,* he said, tightening his grip around Killer's dick and flooding his mind with all the desire and need he felt burning through him. Before the night was over, he would see them both undone, and Killer's mind filled with such pleasure there would be room for absolutely nothing but the two of them.

Ryder felt the shift in Killer, acutely aware of the way his heart beat sped and his breathing just seemed to stop for a moment. Across their shared Green, he could feel the Prince's awe. Pieces shifted in Killer that Ryder had long known the location to. The seconds stretched out and felt like hours as he watched things slide and move within Killer's psyche to adjust for his new bond.

His love had found his Queen. Ryder knew how concerned Killer had been about this. Both the this of meeting Kibeth and the this of meeting his Queen. Ryder sent a pulse of reassurance across their Green thread, urging Killer to just hold steady. Everything would be okay. This was as it was meant to be. As Mother Night had intended. His smile softened as he squeezed Kill's fingers and turned to lay eyes on his Prince's Queen.

The world tipped, tilting him upside down and inside out in the most very pleasant way imaginable for such a thing to occur. Joy tore through his body and he positively beamed  at the Queen before him. Tyr's daughter. His Queen.

Killer asked along the Green if she was theirs and he confirmed what the Prince already knew. *Yes! Ours! Ours ours ours!*

The bond settled around and within him. It didn't feel like chains or bindings, but rather like he was suffused with sunlight. He wanted to leap across the distance and wrap her in his arms, spinning her around endlessly. But Killer's emotions shifted to radiate calm and Ryder followed suit, remembering the warnings that Mels had offered them.

Killer pulled him forward and he was immediately at his side, moving with clear intention and ease toward Kibeth. Rarely did he think about his height as a potentially bad thing, but he couldn't help but feel like he was towering over her as they drew closer and he realized she just barely came up to his shoulder. He offered his free hand and tried to keep his exuberant energy to himself, but it was a challenge. "Hello, sister," he said softly, naming her kin. His Green joined Killer's wrap around the three of them, protecting her, cocooning her in their strength. He smiled, longing for her to ease away from her fears and smile back at them.

Ryder knew that no matter how many times Killer preferred him to be the dominant force between them, it wasn't always what the Prince wanted.  And what Ryder wanted tonight was to give Killer exactly what he needed. Whatever it would take to soothe his mind and ease the day away from the tension in his muscles. He wanted to give and he would willingly take or yield, command or be commanded, depending entirely on what Killer craved.

When he asked if he could have everything, all of it, Ryder smiled. "Yeah. Everything is an option. A good option." Killer vanished his shirt and Ryder had a moment of amusement realizing he might never see that shirt again. It was fine. Everything was fine as long as he could hold Kill in his arms. He didn't really give a shit about that shirt anyway.

He moaned softly as Killer's fingers traced along his sides. He could feel the edge of his mood shifting, veering back toward what had been present before. But it wasn't until Killer expressed his need, his need of him that the Warlord Prince let out a low, possessive growl and acted.

Ryder wrapped an arm around Killer's back and moved quickly, shifting their position so he could turn the Prince and himself. Killer's weight was easy to manipulate, pressing his back down against the couch as Ryder moved on top of him, staring down into his eyes. For a long moment that was all the did, allowing Killer to really feel the weight of him without making it hard for him to breathe.

*I need you, too, baby,* he sent along their shared Green before lowering his head and nipping at Killer's bottom lip. *I'm going to make sure you know just how not alone you are.* Ryder kissed him then, full and hard on the mouth, rolling his hips against the other male. He was hard enough now he nearly ached with it. There was no hiding it, granting Ryder exactly what he wanted. He wanted Killer to know, to feel beyond a shadow of a doubt the way he was wanted, craved, desired.

"I hate being away from you," he breathed against Killer's mouth, before pressing hungry lips back against the Prince's, feeding there as if everything he ever needed could be found at the brush of Killer's lips against his.

The Green Jeweled Warlord Prince walked, ran, and bounced his way along the trail he and Killer walked. He was so fucking excited he couldn't contain it. He was trying to be quiet, trying not to accidentally draw an arrow or a hunting dog or scare off her prey, but he was failing terribly. Well, if he was loud, she wouldn't accidentally mistake him for a deer, although at 6'6", he was more likely to be mistaken for... what? Not a bear. Or a moose. Okay maybe a really tall deer?

Ryder knew Killer was nervous. Knew it because he could taste it on the air as much as he knew it because he knew  Killer. This would be like any other Queen they met. Except it wouldn't. Not quite. Were he raised in the way the cohort was intended, without the threat that existed to the Queens and to the Dark Jeweled Rihlanders who bore powerful castes, Ryder would have been raised with Kibeth as a sister as surely as he had known Mels his entire life as well.

Instead, the daughter of his Second Father was a stranger to him, something he was looking forward to fixing. He couldn't undo that he hadn't been there for her until now, couldn't go back and unfuck what had been fucked, but he could certainly stand between her and whatever came at her. She was family. It's what he should have been doing from the start, like he did with Mels, much to her snarling annoyance.

Ryder caught Killer's hand and turned in front of him, walking backwards, slowing his previous exuberant movement so that he could walk without looking, holding Killer's hand and smiling brilliantly at him while they made their way through the woods. *We're almost there? We're almost there! This is going to be great. She's going to be great. You'll see. And I'm right here. I got you.*

Ryder's fingers dug into Killer's hips. His palms were large, fingers long. When he spread his hands, he could cover quite a lot with a single hand. Killer asked for clarification and began to play along Ryder's skin with his teeth. Ryder loved when Killer was in a mood like this, when he was playful and teasing, when he wasn't afraid or hesitant with what was between them. It wasn't that he didn't love the way they found each other in the dark. There was something deeply arousing with finding Killer hungry and need filled when it was just the two of them alone in their bed, after the witchlights had been extinguished.

But this, this version of Killer, who straddled his lap and pressed his body against him, who nipped at his ear and jaw and spoke of waking up covered in the Warlord Prince's marks, this was a version he didn't get to see as often. He groaned when Killer's teeth scraped against his skin, turning to press harder into the other's mouth. It was easy to encourage him, especially when he enjoyed the feel of Killer's mouth so fucking much.

There was no mistaking what Ryder wanted, not with the proof of his desire pressing firmly into Killer as the Prince rolled his body against Ryder's. He allowed the other man to do as he pleased until the need to challenge him was too great to resist. "That all depends on what you want." His hands raised to hook under Killer's shirt and pull it off over his head. Chest bared, Ryder pulled him closer, sinking his teeth into the pale expanse of his pectoral muscle. He played at the flesh, pulling at it, sucking at it, sliding his teeth over it, before finally letting go.

"Do you want this?" he asked, pulling Killer hard against him and capturing his nipple between his teeth, tugging at it before biting down in a sharp pinch and soothing it with his tongue, "or this?" He arched his neck and gripped the back of the Prince's head, pulling him down against his throat and encouraging him to bite all along the line of thick muscle there.

His eyes closed at the feel of Killer's teeth against his neck. "Whatever you want, Kill. It's yours."

I'm yours.

The words traced along his mind but he didn't share them, not through their thread or out loud. He was just starting to get Killer to relax and focus on something other than the fuck off horrible day he had had. He wasn't going to ruin that by saying something that might make him skittish. It was enough that he knew.

Ryder smiled when Killer joined him in piling love on their Blood Opal witch. She was theirs, afterall, no matter how frustrated she might get with their (read Ryder's) antics. She was easy to rile, but even easier to love, and he did with all his damn heart. His worry about her was one of the few things that he hated about traveling. That and being away from Killer, but even that could be dealt with, especially when Killer could just come with him. Or could have before he took a contract with the Queen who seemed intent on bonding every damn Eyrien (may the Darkness strike them all dead in a glorious storm of thunder and lightning) Rihland.

But Mels, Mels he had worried about since he was a boy and forced to leave his homeland for Little Terreille. Every letter he received from her he clutched to like a life line back to his family. Now he was here, where he should be, and still couldn't be with her as much as he wanted.

Someday, they would be a proper cohort. Live together. Or at least nearby. Close enough that he could pester her whenever he wanted. She would hate it. He would love it. It would be wonderful.

He leaned into her heavily, like a big dog pressing against her side. Killer of course asked the reasonable questions. Ryder enjoyed that about the Prince's mind. He enjoyed so much about his Prince, not that he would ever call him that out loud.

And yet, when he mentioned the other moot, Ryder groaned dramatically. He lay his head on the table and stared up at Mels. "I can't go. I'll kill everyone there. You know this, right? Please don't ask me to go. I'm working so hard on that not killing people streak. Huh, Killer? It's been like nine weeks or something. I don't want to break my streak. Pleeeease, Mels."

Killer's teeth were sharp at his skin, causing the Warlord Prince to suddenly pay the fuck attention to what was going on. Combined with the brush of Green against his mind, he knew that he had tightened his grip too hard around the Prince in his lap. He took a breath and loosened his arms just barely, only until he could feel Killer's lungs expand with air. He held there, refusing to release anymore than was absolutely necessary.

Ryder watched the memories of the day through Killer's mind. It was easier than telling him, and he could search for the answers to his questions faster than Killer could offer them, especially when drunk and exhausted. What he saw made him want to pack their shit tonight and leave. Killer would fight him but he could just haul him over his shoulder and off they would go. Back to Mels, back to family, away from this damned city and damned Queen who kept bonding damned Eyriens (may their children be the last of their kind).

Fuck it. They didn't even need to pack. They could just leave. They'd grab the guitar and off they went. Done. Over. No more. Tell Mels that it was a waste, Mia was too far gone and they had called it quits.

But he couldn't say that. This was Killer's assignment and as much as Ryder wanted to say fuck it, they would see it through to the end, until they were absolutely sure. It was Killer's assignment, but in his mind, he referred to it as theirs because where Killer went, he went.

He let out a tremendous breath, his hands moving to massage at the sides of Killer's spine. The Prince would not leave and so they would not leave, no matter how much Ryder wanted to do exactly that. His hands slid around to Killer's ribs, pushing him gently away only so far that he could reach his face. He brushed his lips against Killer's lightly before saying, "Why don't we let today go and just try to relax. We have plenty of time to talk about it, but right now I just want..."

Ryder's teeth gripped Killer's bottom lip and tugged before the kissed him hard on the mouth. His fingers gripped Killer's sides and he fed at his lips, allowing the tension of his body to be channeled into a need Killer was much more prepared to respond to. Breaking the kiss, he finished his sentence. "...just want us to explore that biting a bit more."

The Warlord Prince shifted his weight when Mels stepped up onto him, allowing her an even and steady structure to stand on. His abdomen flexed, his hands hovering near her ankles were she to fall, he kept her safe even as she admonished he and Killer both. The feeling in the room grew much more serious as her words impacted the Green Jeweled Reclaimers.

Despite his histrionics, Ryder took Mels' words seriously. As soon as she mentioned what Kibeth had gone through, his expression darkened, and the first flickers of protective instinct for the unknown Queen of his parent's cohort pulled at the beast within him to rise. But he would not, would NEVER, attack her. That was not his way. He was better than that winged son of a whore that Killer had been forced to deal with in Mia's Court. His hands would never be found around the neck of a Rihlander Queen. And he had promised Killer that very thing just to make damn sure.

When she stepped down off of him, he launched to his feet. Killer was saying what needed to be said. He couldn't even be offended at her implication or her asking Killer to keep an eye on him. He got it. Kibeth was important and they needed to not spook the poor witch, let alone bring her to harm. Grabbing a chair and pulling it up to the table, he slowly started scooting his chair closer to Mels. Inch by inch, until he turned slightly so that he was facing her. Ryder reached forward, pulling both her and the chair she sat on between his spread legs.

Ryder wrapped his arms around his sister and pulled her close to him whether she bristled or not. Long years of affection, followed by nearly as long of absence, had created a very strong need in the Warlord Prince for touch with those he cared for and protected and despite Mels' propensity to snarl, they were family and he knew she didn't really mind. Placing his head on top of hers, he said, "We'll be good. We promise." Then he reached down and took a large bite of the piece of cake sitting in front of her. "Damn! This is good. You should have some, Mels."

If she turned to push him or snarl, she would find him already retreating and ducking out of the way.

The couch they sat on likely was meant for three people, maybe even four if they were the size of Mels. With the 6'6" Rihlander Warlord Prince sitting on it, there was room for exactly two, and that was only if the other person was willing to be close enough that the accidental brushing of knees would not cause an issue. As it was, it was perfect for Ryder and Killer, the dual Greens intent on learning what it was their fearless leader wanted to discuss with them.

The winter moot wasn't enough of a thing to go through all of this to talk about so why was she- Oh. That. Ryder leaned back into the couch, one hand coming up to run his tattooed fingers through his hair. He listened as Killer reassured her that everything would be fine. The timing was apt. They had just promised each other they wouldn't lose it if they bonded a Queen.

Man it would be great if one of them was bound to Kibeth. Assuming of course she hadn't turned out like Mia Kollen. Nah. No way. Tyr's blood flowed through her veins. She would be a true Rihlander Queen. He just knew it.

Killer offered the actual answer, which meant Ryder didn't have to. "Kibeth is my mother's second daughter, and I am her father's second son. She is my sister as surely as you are, Mels, despite me having never met her. You think I would do something to harm her? I am wounded. Deeply, horribly, tragically," at this point he dropped from the couch to his knees, clutching at his heart, "MORTALLY wounded that you could even," he then fell to the floor, thrashing in his mock death throes, "think... such a... thing..." He gave a dramatic dying cough before going still on the floor.

Killer toed at his limp body and Ryder began to mime blood gushing from his heart in a huge spray overhead. He made small gurgling sounds to accentuate the imaginary blood that clearly had now covered the entirety of Mels' floor, pooling around her feet. He let his arms fall back to the floor with a heavy thud, closed his eyes, and even let his tongue loll sideways out of his mouth. She would recognize the pose from when he was a child and they played games where he died. When he was little, Ryder had thought that a person's tongue hung out when they died, so that was what he mimicked. He knew better now, but it didn't stop him from reenacting it for her.

Killer began to relax. Normally Mels handled helping him with feeling tight and tense, but Mels wasn't here. Ryder at least made a solid second best. He didn't mind. If he had his way, the three of them could settle and start their own cohort, pulling in people who fit their way of life and believed in the Reclaimers' cause, Mels' cause, as they did.

The Green Jeweled Prince handed Ryder his glasses and Ryder took them and vanished them. It was easier that way. If they woke up in the morning and Killer couldn't find them, he might panic. He was so very careful with his glasses ever since Ryder had first gotten him a new pair after his former were broken in a fight. Killer had been so incredibly grateful. For someone who traveled and traded constantly, it wasn't that big a thing. For Killer, it was huge.

The night of that fight, that was a great night for them. It had changed everything. But it wasn't until then that Ryder understood how blind Killer really was. One time Killer told him how terrified he was of losing his sight completely. Ryder reassured him it wouldn't happen. The Prince didn't know, but ever since then, Ryder kept an extra pair of glasses on hand in his psychic cabinet, just in case.

Killer curled into him. One large hand raised to stroke his back. Ryder listened along the thread as Killer told him what had happened. Of course it was about that damn Queen. She made Killer's life so fucking complicated. He kept stroking his back until Killer mentioned, casually, that the reaction of her new bound Eyrien (may they meet the fate that awaits them) upon meeting her was to throttle his Queen. The Warlord Prince tightened his grip against the other man's hip as the soft stroking turned into a possessive hold and he pressed Killer tighter into his chest. He didn't interrupt, but it was very clear that Ryder was suddenly paying very close attention to the rest of the story.

Killer continued. She was nearly killed or broken. Clusterfuck is right. How the fuck had this even been allowed to happen? He had no love for Mia Kollen, but to be almost killed by a male who belonged to you? Only the Eyriens (may the Darkness be swift in her mercy) could do something like that.

Before he could catch himself, the questions he really wanted answered were blurted out. "Were you in any danger? This winged asshole sounds dangerous. Do you have to be around him again? Why didn't you call me? I would have been there. You know I would have." He wrapped both arms around the smaller male and pulled him even tighter against him. Fuck. What the fuck would they have done to the Steward if he was there when the Queen was killed? "This assignment is getting too dangerous, Kill." It was a pointless statement. They both knew Killer would see this out. But it was still the fucking truth.

He sucked in a deep breath and then added, "Promise me that if either of us ever bond to a Queen, we will not be that stupid."

Ryder watched to see which avenue Killer would choose to take. Killer was a lot of things. Predictable in his reactions wasn't really one of them.

He knew regardless what the other Green chose, at some point tonight he would be forgiven. And after he was forgiven, he would take the drunken man to their bed and make sure he forgot about every fucked up thing that happened that day. That's what bros did, right?

Ryder knew that Killer couldn't label them, couldn't even see clearly what they were to each other. They both stayed in Belaya because it was boring otherwise. The rented a one bedroom because it made more sense financially. They shared a bed because it was safer that way. Ryder just went along with it, knowing that maybe one day, it would occur to Killer the kind of bros they were. Until then, he was happy. Things were good. He was happy.

Happier when Killer put down the guitar. Sober Killer would be very upset if he woke to find his guitar smashed into pieces, and even further distraught when he realized he had smashed it to pieces on Ryder. "Your anatomy lessons are usually much more fun and don't involve Eyrien wing structures." He wanted to ask what had happened but Killer had another idea.

When Killer climbed into his lap, he smirked a bit, happy that Killer had chosen this path over the others. Ryder leaned forward to catch his lips, and got a swallow of beer as well. He had to smile. It was often hard to separate the man from his love of beer and brewing, it just normally wasn't quite so literal a separation he was thinking of.

Ryder's hands slid forward and gripped Killer's hips. He kissed him again, calming at feeling the other male solid and unhurt beneath his hands. He had been so worried feeling the flares of emotion through out the day and not being to able to be there to handle it. "Wanna tell me about today?" He asked, aiming for as casual as possible, despite him his concern.

Rihland / Re: feel it now, deep beneath the light

Ryder hated being away from Killer. If he had his way, he, Killer, and Mels could just be together all the time and he wouldn't have to worry about either of them because he would be there with them.  Years away from Mels in Little Terreille had taught him patience, but it had also taught him that being away from his sister sucked. He intended to do it as little as possible. Except of course being away from Killer also sucked.

Being that they were in two different parts of Rihland, he was always missing someone. Maybe this assignment Killer was on would end soon. Episodes like today told him what a pipe dream that was.

Ryder rose early every morning to work out. Even the nights they spent together, Killer generally slept later, which meant he was usually done with his work out and shower, had already checked in with a super chipper (and highly caffeinated) Mels, and in the kitchen making breakfast by the time Killer got up. He couldn't do much to help him with this current shit assignment, but he could at least feed the man. Ryder was supposed to be gone for a few nights for business, and that morning he had made a point of letting Killer know he would be missed.

He'd set out shortly after Killer did by a different route. Catching an Opal wind, he made good time and had his first meeting closed out by lunch. All morning he felt the irritation bleeding through from Killer along their Green. Ryder could easily keep it open as he traveled, giving them a consistent connection through out the day. But it wasn't until he started getting flashes of the mutilation of Eyrien wings that he really became restless and concerned.

Killer knew that if he needed the back up of the Green Jeweled Warlord Prince, all he needed to do was ask. But the request never came. By the time he finished his dinner and didn't have a clear understanding of what all had happened that way, he was too agitated and worried to continue on. He canceled his meetings for the next few days and turned right back around towards Belaya.

It was late by the time he slipped into the apartment, the wards recognizing him and welcoming him. He stood against the window and watched Killer from behind. He called in his guitar while still holding his drink.

*You're going to spill your beer,* Ryder said across their connection.

Killer snapped back about having put it down, thank you very much. Ryder tried not to laugh realizing how intoxicated the other Green was to not realize he was standing right behind him. Killer started to play and Ryder smiled. *I've always loved that song.*

Only then did the music stutter as Killer slowly turned his head to see Ryder standing behind him, his massive form leaning easily against the windows. Before he could say anything, Ryder took a running leap and landed hard on the couch beside the Prince. "While I always appreciate anatomy lessons, did you need to be quite so graphic?" he asked, smiling at the man who looked like he couldn't decide whether to leap into his lap or thwack him with his guitar.

Distinguishing Features:

It is hard to say what one notices about Ryder first. If he is sitting down, it is likely his striking eyes or the tattoos that cover most of his body. If he is standing, however, it would be hard to say that anyone could notice anything before his sheer size. Standing at 6'6", he is a true Rihlander, with the defined musculature to match. While his height might be due in large part to his heritage, his muscular form is something he works very hard to improve and maintain. Since returning to Rihland, this has become even more important to him.

Personality

Personality:

Ryder Nordskov is quick to smile and even quicker to laugh. While his neutral expression may be rather intimidating for some, Ryder is actually much more likely to crack a joke or do a back flip over a friend than he is to start a random fight (random being the key word, of course). One of his favorite activities is to try to break the seriousness that has settled over the Reclaimers, whether by making them laugh (the way he does with Killer) or embarrassing the Hell out of them (like he does to Mels mercilessly). If someone comes at him first when he's alone, Ryder will do what is needed to get away from the aggressor and make it to safety. It's not worth it start shit if it's just him at risk.

This casual and chill exterior dissolves entirely if someone he loves, cares for, or has been charged with protecting is harmed. Or threatened. Or even looked at funny. This is when Ryder shows the ways he is a Warlord Prince in truth. He becomes vicious, uncaring of the lives of anyone but those he shields. When he fights, he fights to the death, something that the Reclaimers have been trying to stop him from doing. Accidental kills don't exactly look good for the Rihlander nationals. Ryder is working on it. Kinda.

Ryder is charismatic and seems to naturally draw a crowd. Given a chance, like at a business meeting or at a bar, he will easily and comfortably become the center of attention and hold it. In Rihland, this can be a bit tricky and occasionally a bit dangerous. Outside of the Territory, though, he is a beautiful anomaly. Tall, muscular, and covered in Rihlander tattoos. He appears as exotic and intriguing, a fact that he uses to his benefit in all of his business dealings.

He is quick witted and has learned business from some of the best in Little Terreille, lessons he took to heart and has used to continue to run both money and goods for the Reclaimers. Ryder uses everything from slight of hand to social Craft to smooth his way through even the most dicey situations. Since the borders opened two years ago, his life has been made much easier, but he still takes precautions. His loyalty will not allow him to put those he cares for, and whose ideals he serves, at risk.

It's one of the only areas in his life where he is cautious. He's rather a bit of an adrenaline junkie, willing to take risks, sometimes seeking to take risks. He's been know to hang out on the edge of rooftops, do back flips off bridges into rivers of unknown depth below. He's not entirely fearless, but all of his fear is based in the people he cares for, not for his own survival. This is the life he's got and he's going to live it for all it's worth.

Likes:
  • 1 Tattoos: Ryder came of age in Little Terreille, a melting pot where a dozen different cultures have come together. Ryder wanted more than just his stature and coloring to mark him as a Rihlander and started the process of covering his body in Rihlander based tattoos as soon as he could. Once he returned to Rihland, he began adding both Skald markings and secret Reclaimer tattoos to his body, becoming even more a giant canvas. He loves the self expression and enjoys the attention of being an anomaly.
  • 2 Traveling: Ryder has traveled with his parents ever since he can remember. Before they moved to Little Terreille, they traveled all over Rihland. After, they traveled even further. Now running the business his parents started, Ryder has traveled most of his adult life. He loves it, loves the people, the places, packing up and heading out. If he has to stay in any one place too long, he gets restless.
  • 3 Being a Warlord Prince: Perhaps because he has a generally happy and chill demeanor, Ryder doesn't have as much difficulty with his caste as it seems others do. He loves the physicality that comes with his caste, the easy way he can spend hours training and bulking up his form, or dancing and being goofy just to embarrass Mels or make Killer laugh. He loves being strong enough to protect the people he loves, and the way he feels possessive about them. It was hard being away from Mels, but they remained close in part because of his drive to care for her. He likes the way it feels to claim those he cares about. The only downfall is how quick he rises to the killing edge, and how often that has ended with Ryder standing in a pile of dead bodies. But even that is something he enjoys the rush of, even if it makes life for the Reclaimers more difficult.
Dislikes:
  • 1 Eyriens: They need to get the fuck out of Rihland. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. He is angry about being under their rule and blames them for missing so much of Mels' life, not to mention being torn away from his homeland and his extended family for so long.
  • 2 Prohibition: There are real problems. The Skalds and their knowledge are a dying breed. Rihland heritage is being destroyed. Queens like his Second Father's daughter Kibeth are being kept hidden from the land, only recently being granted a chance to rule. Why the fuck does anyone care who likes to gamble? At least he can drink again in public. If that was still illegal, Ryder would get in a lot more trouble than he already does.
  • 3 Monogamy: Ryder's earliest memories involve a circle of adults that loved and cared for each other. Even with the connections his parents made in Little Terreille, it was never the same. They still live there, separated from their cohort. Ryder wants a life full of people and relationships, whatever those look like. He can't see himself ever monogamously paired and is perfectly happy with that.
Fears:
  • 1 Something happening to Mels while he's away: He has to travel for life and work, but Hell will pale in comparison to what he will do if anything happens to her while he's not there to protect her. He spent 13 years with only letters between them. Now that he can be near her again, he will be damned thrice over if he allows anything to happen to the woman he has viewed as a sister since they were children.
  • 2 Spilling his secret to the wrong person: Ryder is not the best judge of character when it comes to who he should trust. It's one of the advantages of having Killer travel with him. The Prince has a much better handle on that kind of thing than he does. He wants to recruit strong, passionate people to Mels' cause, but if he says the wrong thing to the wrong person, he could put them all in danger.
  • 3 His company failing: Built by his parents, and expanded to include Ryder as he grew older, his family's company is extremely important to him. Not only is it the second most important thing in his life, it supplies money for the first. The Reclaimers are funded in large part by Ryder's ability to bring things in and out of the Territory, under the guise of his business. The company is thriving, and there is no reason to think it won't continue to. Unless he gets caught. Unless the exchange figures out what he's doing. Unless he starts getting citations. There are so many unknowns and he fears the worst.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Communication Craft: What started as training that enabled Ryder to communicate with his parents and let them know where he was and that he was okay at all times has become a true strength as he's grown both older and Darker. Ryder is especially skilled with long distance communication, enabling him to reach further and more accurately with his psychic threads than would be expected. This is a boon to his business and helps him immensely while traveling through various Territories.
  • 2 Social Craft: Ryder has a natural charisma that people want to be around. He learned from Laurel Gold how to use this to his advantage in business situations, helping people feel more at ease in his presence than they likely otherwise would being near a Green Jeweled Warlord Prince.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Mending and joining of objects: This is something the Ryder has simply never been able to grasp. While others can use Craft to do at least a basic mending of a shirt or combining objects with Craft, Ryder has absolutely no ability for this. His attempts often make things worse than if he had just left them alone. This often results in a shirtless Ryder, for if it gets torn, his general attitude is "fuck it."
  • 2 Physical Enhancement: Ryder is a large, muscular guy. He is determined to stay that way, in large part because he completely lacks the ability to enhance his body through Craft. He cannot pour Craft into his muscles to be stronger, or faster, or have more endurance. The only ability that he has is based in the constant and intensive workouts that he holds himself to, aware that in a fight, he is really lacking the edge to enhance any of his physical attributes.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Eira Nordsov Blood Opal to Sapphire witch
Father: Brynjar Nordskov Yellow to Rose Prince
Second Father: Tyr Madsen White to Broken Tiger Eye Warlord
Second Mother: Adelhild Kriemhild Descent White witch (deceased)
Siblings: none

History:
In 157 AP, a young couple named Eira and Brynjar Nordskov met a man named Tyr Madsen through the Exchange. At the time, they didn't know how influential he would become in their lives, and in the life of their child. Ryder was born in 164 AP, a giant bundle of bouncing baby Warlord Prince. Tyr was named his Second Father and Adelhild Kriemhild named his Second Mother. His caste was apparent almost immediately and caused concern to the community. Not wanting to create a splintering of the cohort, it was hoped that Ryder would obtain a Tiger Eye or lighter at his Birthright, guaranteeing a light descent.

Four years later, Tyr's daughter, Kibeth, was born. It was the time of the Kvivik massacre. Johannes had already bonded to the little Queen, and when he found her and her mother close to death, he chose to save Kibeth. Tyr's gratefulness for his daughter's rescue caused him to name Johannes as Kibeth's Second Father. Ryder's mother Eira was named her Second Mother. It was mostly an honorary naming as to protect Kibeth, she was never really allowed to leave her father's house. Despite Ryder's close connection to her, they never met as children.

Tyr considered leaving Rihland to protect his daughter, but chose to remain. It was instead Eira and Brynjar who chose to leave after Ryder's Birthright Ceremony. He came away from the altar with a Summer Sky Jewel. They had waited as long as they could, but it was time to leave to protect him. It took two years for the Nordskovs to find a way out of Rihland safely, but they finally did. At ten years old, the young Warlord Prince was relocated to Little Terreille. Tyr was heartbroken that they left, but he understood because he had considered the same for Kibeth. He continued to send Ryder gifts through the exchange as he felt a Second Father ought to.

Ryder was very unhappy to have to move. He had grown up with Mels as his sister and was suddenly forced to leave her behind as well as their cohort and go to a Territory that was not his own. He continued to stay in contact with Mels through coded letters. They shared everything they could about their lives with each other. Mels told him of Rihland and of reaching her Offering. Ryder told her of traveling with his parents through Kaeleer, expanding their business as they did.

In 178 AP, Mels wrote to tell him that her mother was executed and her father broken. The loss of his Second Mother hurt him deeply, but it was a mere shadow in comparison to how he ached for Mels and her loss. A year later, another letter filled with the scent of her grief came. Her father killed himself. Ryder was beside himself with not being able to be there for her. Through his parents work with Theodanis Dewitt, they had made connections with Laurel Gold. It was Mels grief that solidified his decision to join a Court for proper training. Someday he would return to Rihland, and he would never let anything like that happen to her.

Ryder signed a six year contract to serve Laurel Gold from 180-186 AP. Within her Court, he learned a great many things, but none as important as how to use his natural charisma to further his business negotiations. Lady Gold was the best teacher he could have possibly asked for. He flourished under her teachings, and matured from a 16 year old boy to a 22 year old man, complete with a Green Jewel for his Offering.

When his contract was up, he began to return to Rihland as a part of his parents business. He was assigned an Eyrien escort, and while he hated having a babysitter, it was worth a great deal to him if it meant he could return to Mels side. He sought her out immediately and the homecoming celebration was joyous and long. It was at this point that he first met Killer as well, and learned in full detail of what Mels was working toward for the Rihlander people. He was also reunited with his Second Father, Tyr, another happy event.

Over the next four years, he moved in and out of the Territory with the Eyrien escort at his side. When, finally, two years ago, the borders were open and he could move freely again, that was when he was really able to start supporting the Reclaimers efforts financially. He was also able to travel easily with Killer, taking his closet friend to meet his parents in Little Terreille, as well as traveling with him as much as they were able.

That changed about six months ago when Killer needed to take a Stewards position to continue Mels work. They rent an apartment in Belaya where Ryder comes and goes as he is able. He still travels a great deal for work, even if it's not quite as much fun without Killer to accompany him. He see Mels frequently, never staying away for long.

Character in Play:

Ryder Nordskov was ecstatic to be back in Rihland. There were things that annoyed the Hell out of him, of course. Like going from Little Terreille where alcohol flowed freely, including strong spelled alcohols that affected the Blood with much more potency, to Rihland, where the stiffest drink available tasted like piss and got him just about as drunk. Ryder was pretty sure he could go in the back, open a barrell and dunk himself in head first and at best he might get a mild buzz. He carried his flask with him everywhere, always filled with strong spirits he had smuggled in from other Territories, and spiked whatever he happened to be drinking. It was the only way he survived.

But there was so much else to love about his homeland, he could deal with the weak ass alcohol, and even the Eyriens (fuuuuuck so many Eyriens) if it meant he was able to be near his extended family again. He had missed Tyr, his second father, very much, but even more he had missed Mels. Coming home and finding her fiery and driven had done him good. Being able to pick her up and hug her tight was another thing he had missed. They had remained in contact with coded letters, remaining a constant part of each other’s lives, but it was nothing compared to actually being able to see her whenever he was in town.

His friendship with Killer was another boon. He hadn’t been looking for it, but it was good to have another guy around. Ryder liked males generally, with the exception of the pissing matches that seemed to occur every time he was around other Warlord Princes. That shit he could just do without. He didn’t need to drop his pants and compare who had the biggest dick. He was happy to just go along his way and be left the fuck alone. That changed if someone he cared about was gonna get hurt. Then the part of him that needed to protect what was his roared to life. At 6’6” and carrying muscles he worked very hard to maintain, he was no easy target, but Mother Night did people keep trying anyway.

“You can do that? Make me my very own Growler? Oh man, that would be so cool. I’d trust you to know what I like, but you’re welcome to ask me as many questions about my tastes and preferences as you like. I’m an open book.” Ryder was aware of the way his words could be taken, that he could be talking about more than just the Growlers, but he didn’t fucking care. He was just so happy to be here, to be out with Killer, to be home.

Now, if those assholes in the corner booth would just stop eyeing them, everything would be fine…
