Late Autumn 193 - The Bodleian

Business was booming.

Kiersten strolled into the Bodleian like she owned the place. She didn’t, but she was a partner-of-sorts with the woman who did. The Black Widow spent enough time at this establishment to be known as a permanent fixture, with privileges to enter nearly any room she choose. Kiersten rarely took advantage of those privileges, preferring to let her customers enjoy the beautiful Sirens while indulging some of the party favors that the Glacian woman always had on hand.

Lady D had a long way to go to become Little Terreille’s primary dealer of exotic drugs, but she felt like she was well on the way.

Violet Kaos was one of the best (possibly the best) courtesan in Little Terreille, her client list a who’s-who of Aristos and nouveau riche types with more money than good sense or self-preservation. The exposure did wonders for Kiersten’s own business but she wasn’t here to add new clients to her list tonight. She had questions about a mutual acquaintance. She hoped that Violet could confirm the man before Kiersten took matters into her own hands.

When Prince Reed noted her arrival, he was already communicating with Violet via thread to find out if she was busy with a client. Finding that she wasn’t, the Green Warlord Prince fell into step beside Kiersten, guiding her up the stairs to the second floor, where Violet tended to receive people for larger gatherings. Prince Reed stepped forward to open the door and Kiersten strolled in.

So this is what an orgy looks like.

All around her, people were various states of undress and coitus. Sitting on a couch at the far wall, Violet Kaos looked over the gathering like a Queen surveying her Court. Kiersten caught her eye and then approached, mostly because she didn’t want to irk the escort standing nearby. Getting murdered by an overeager male was a shitty way to die. Dying at an orgy was number five on her list of Most Fucked-Up Ways to Die in Little Terreille and one that she'd avoid at all cost. She saw Violet on a couch at the head of the room and walked over, resisting the urge to touch the new ring that she'd created to offset Violet's special blend of Craft.

The seat beside Violet had the best potential of not being recently defiled, so Kiersten slid smoothly into it, crossing one long leg over the other.

Hey there. Looks like you’re having a good time." she said, looking over the small sea of humanity before them.

"What’s the theme?” Kiersten asked, settling in and crossing one long leg over the other as she stared at the witch.

Violet watched from the elegant loveseat at the far side of the room. An ornate table next to her held fresh cocktails. At her request, the bartender downstairs was ensuring the large room was never running low. Intoxicants were often the secret ingredient to having an excellent orgy. Almost as important as ensuring the right number of people were present. Tonight held nine, plus her. As she didn’t intend to join but rather observe, it was an excellent number. The group had split off into smaller groups, as was always the case. Trying to actually have sex with more than two or three people at once got awfully complicated.

There was a couple on the cushions directly in front of her fucking so furiously she wondered had long they had craved the other.. The witch was married to one of the men currently buried balls deep in one of her Sirens. The Warlord had wanted the witch desperately, but she refused to cheat on her husband, despite her own deep desires. Orgies were wonderful for such conundrums.

”It’s not cheating if you fuck other people together,” Violet had told her. ”Trust me.”

They had, and now they were here.

The Siren that the husband was fucking had her face buried in another Siren’s cunt. The second Siren moaned around the cock that she was sucking, her hand sinking into the other woman’s hair as she worked her toward orgasm. The wives of those two men were being very well entertained and serviced by one her male Sirens. Three couples. Three Sirens. Infinite orgasms.

When Prince Reed brushed against her mind, she welcomed him with a rush of warmth and desire. They had grown closer over the time he had worked for her as one of her Shields. Through direct intention or simply habit, he had become the Shield who interfaced with her the most. The others seemed to defer to him. Violet wasn’t sure whether it was his skill at his job or their desire to not cross a besotted Green Jeweled Warlord Prince that was the driving factor.

Telling him to bring her guest to her directly, there was no surprise when he swiftly appeared at the door with his charge in tow. Scented smoke rose in slender trails from the incense burners set around the space. The lust in the room was palpable. Combined with Violet allowing her Craft to flow freely without restraint, the feel of the room was almost a drug in itself.

For having been the person they met through, Solon did not seem to offer an abundance of warmth toward her business partner. She smiled at Lady D and motioning her closer before her eyes shifted to her Shield. His gaze was boring into her. She mouthed the words, ”Thank you,” to him, and he nodded, lingering for a moment longer before he turned to leave the room.

One day, he would he would find the voice to tell her how much he desired her. And on that day, he would learn how well the Lady Siren rewarded those who asked for what they wanted.

”Hello, darling!” she said to K, before leaning closer and pressing her cheek to the Black Widow’s. Violet smelled of soft powder and expensive perfume. ”The theme is Nharkava,” she shared,   motioning to the black lace sari and jewels she wore. Reaching to the table, she picked up a two glasses and offered on to her companion.

Raising her glass, she said, ”To men and horses, and the women who ride them.”

Kiersten accepted the glass from Violet, focusing her gaze on the madame’s face. Thus far, the addition to her necklace meant to dull Violet’s effect upon her held up. She was glad. Between Violet’s aura and the scattered ass all over this room, Kiersten would have found it difficult to keep her mind on business. All the same, her mouth was still a little dry due to the cacophony of moans, screams, and sighs all around her. Violet’s perfume was wonderful, too, making it harder to concentrate.

There was no Craft to block out good perfume.

Hey, Siren. You look good.” Kiersten said, returning the kiss to the cheek and then sitting back so that she could cross her legs. She spared a glance at the rest of the room just as one trio was in the midst of a particularly acrobatic sequence. Kiersten’s head titled in inquiry and genuine wonder at the position and how they’d learned of it.

Didn’t think people could actually bend that way.” she said, before returning her attention to Violet.

Nharkava, huh? Never been there. This is how they get down in Nharkava? Must be a hell of a place.” she said, taking a sip of her drink. She should’ve told Violet to meet in her office. She should have suggested that they meet anywhere but here. While Violet’s effects couldn’t touch her, the psychic and physical scents of the people around her all assaulted Kiersten en masse. The sheer amount of lust in the air didn’t go unnoticed, nor did it leave her unscathed. She drained the rest of the glass in a single gulp, then handed it back to Violet.

I’ll take another.” Kiersten said. So long as it wasn’t spelled, she’d could have another without ill effect.

I was just checking in. Wanted to make sure that everything is good for you,  your Sirens and Shields.” she said. Her eyes caught sight of another duo in the midst of a furious coupling, complete with a soundtrack. Yeah, this was a bad idea. But she was here and committed to it. No sense in running away now.

Is everything good?” she asked, turning her attention back to Violet after a minute.

"I have found that with the right motivation, flexibility is rarely a barrier," Violet replied with a smile when her companion commented on the more acrobatic sex acts occurring a mere few feet away. She leaned closer to K and whispered, "Mind shattering orgasms tend to have that effect." Violet's breath was warm against Kiersten's ear and then she was gone, settled back into her seat.

"I am told Nharkava contains all manner of sexual secrets. Perhaps I will travel there one day and see for myself." It was a strange thought, the idea of leaving Little Terreille, of travel as an option for leisure. Her new life had opened a number of doors for her, but she was uncertain whether leaving the Territory would be one of them. Still, it was fun to think about.

Violet offered K a fresh glass, smiling as she did. The witch was quite stunning, and yet she seemed unaware of it. Here, now, she was surrounded by people indulging in their wildest, darkest desires, and yet she still fought to remain unaffected. "Yes, K," she responded, when the blonde finally turned her attention back to Violet. "We are good. Things are good. Business is good. The Sirens and Shields are good. You, however, I am not so certain about," she teased.

Sliding closer to K, she looked out over the feast of flesh that was displayed before them. The Lady Siren did not look at her, but simply allowed the heat of her body to spill across K's where they were pressed together at their sides. Violet's hand came to rest softly on K's knee. "When was the last time someone made you cum so hard you forgot your own name?" she asked casually. If Violet's suspicion was correct, it had been far, far too long.

Kiersten laughed as she sipped her drink. Violet talked about sex the way most people breathed. Sex was literally her business and Kiersten admired the way that she’d turned her skill into a franchise. She wanted to do the same thing someday. That required her to make a profit on the vices of others. Lots of people would say that she was wrong or a complete monster for selling drugs to people, but Kiersten didn’t prey on addicts or force her product on anyone. She didn’t sell to kids or people who really didn’t need it. That helped her sleep at night.

So did the expensive bed and high-thread count sheets that she’d come to enjoy.

Maybe I’ll go with you.” she said idly, head tilting as she tried to make sense of the position that the four people in the far corner of the room found themselves in. Bit by bit, her mind decoded who had what bits in which person and Kiersten shifted her gaze elsewhere. She was starting to remember why it was so difficult to come here while Violet was working. She shifted in her seat and tried to find something, anything else to focus on. She drained her glass and Vi refilled it, moving closer to her.

Me? I’m good. Of course I’m good. Why wouldn’t I be?” she asked, trying to sound steadier than she felt. Violet’s skin was warm against hers. Shit. She’d turned on her bracelet, right? She took a deep breath and tried to keep her mind focused on the reason she’d come here.

When was the last time someone made you cum so hard you forgot your own name?

That brought her up short.

It’s been a little bit.” Kiersten said, shrugging. “I’m a busy woman. Not everyone has the same flexibility in their schedule that I do. Not to mention that I’m not looking for anything serious. Lots of people don’t get that.

She took another drink.

Hey, I’ve got a question for you. Do you know a Prince by the name of Darien Embers?

Darien.

It was good that Violet had no intent of lying to K. Even the Lady Siren had certain subjects, certain people, that were very difficult to hide her reaction around. K wasn't used to this environment the way that Violet was. She was distracted by the moans, by the heavy scent of sex on the air. It might have been enough to cover the slight widening of her eyes, or the way her breath seemed to still at the sound of his name.

But then, she might have noticed, being in the profession that she was, being here on business and not pleasure like the other bodies in the room, skin sliding against skin, lips and hands exploring the most sensitive of flesh.

Was their friendship a secret? Something Darien expected her to hide from prying eyes or rumors of the outside world? She was well known for her discretion, a pretty lie that screamed her betrayal each time one of her former clients met their ends at her benefactor's desire. Word had reached her, trickling in the way bad news tended to do, and she knew that Kelda was working her way down the list Violet had provided her. She had sold the secrets of her clients for her life, a life she hadn't even been sure she wanted.

But Darien wasn't a client. He was a friend, one of the people in Violet's life who could claim that title. He was more than that to her, but there weren't good words for what that meant, for the fear he had felt when he thought her dead, or the feelings of safety she found in his arms. He had never asked her to deny him. He had never asked anything of her, really, beyond her being herself. Perhaps that was why he was who and what he was to her. The one man in Goth who didn't want her to put on a show, but simply wanted her.

"Yes," she answered, after a long pause, turning to look out over the writhing bodies before them. "I know a Prince by the name of Darien Embers."

Kiersten fought hard to keep her attention focused on Violet, but the moans and sounds flesh smacking against flesh drew her attention. She wanted to know if Darien was being honest when he said that he knew Violet. She didn’t like or trust the man. Violet was her business partner and Prince Embers had trouble written all over him, wrapped up in the shell of a pretty bad boy. Maybe Violet didn’t need protecting from the guy, but Violet was her business partner. The Bodelian was the cash cow for both of them.

She wouldn’t let it be compromised.

Ah, okay.” Kiersten said. Was that disappointment in her voice? Perhaps. She grabbed Violet’s hand, forcing herself to focus on the witch so that she wasn’t listening to someone gagging on someone else over in the corner. Her dress suddenly felt too warm and stifling at all once. This entire room was messing with her mind.

I ran into Prince Embers recently. He’s been following me around because of our friend Lord Astin. You remember him, right? He was stealing from me so that he could get the money to buy Devon out of her contract?" Kiersten said. That day was etched in Kiersten’s mind. Lord Astin had received a vigorous introduction to the Bodelian’s rear wall.

Lord William is a friend of Prince Embers and he told his uncle what I did to him. So the uncle has people following me around trying to get even with me, but Embers has been stopping them. He found me at the Tottering Otter and suggested I leave town for a few months until this all blew over.” Kiersten said, finishing her drink.

She looked at Violet. “Is he a customer or a friend? I don’t like it when people threaten me or get involved in my business, Siren.” Kiersten said. In her mind, only Violet was ever “Siren”. The rest of the Sirens had their own names.

I’m just out to protect our business and investment. You understand that, right?

Kiersten took Violet's hand. The Lady Siren looked down at her lap for a moment, before turning her head to look at Kiersten's hand in hers. Violet knew Darien and what he was into. Having someone ask about her had put him on edge, and for a moment she had forgotten that K seemed to hold genuine affection for her, even if it confused the Glacian what that meant.

Violet was used to confusing people. They wanted her when they shouldn't. They wanted her over other things that they once had wanted more than anything in their lives. The Hell Lords had been known to say that one night with the Madame was worth the cost of your soul. Violet thought of the General and how that sentiment was certainly more true for some than others.

Sex was her gift. Orchestrating it. Selling it. Crafting it. Luring out other's darkest desires. And of course, fucking itself. K was her business partner and her business was sex. What would it mean to blur those lines just a bit more than they already were?

Violet's fingers entangled with the Black Widow's, while her other hand moved up and down the soft flesh of Kiersten's inner arm. Carefully pointed nails dragged softly up her skin, tracing small patterns over the veins at her wrist. "I remember Lord Astin," Violet said, her red lips curving in a pleased smile. That incident had started the tradition at the Bodleian of how they dealt with ill behaved patrons. Lord Astin's blood had just been the first to stain the building's back wall.

She looked up at K as she spoke, one perfectly arched eyebrow raising at the description of D and his actions. "He would say that, yes," she agreed, her fingers continuing to play over the Black Widow's skin. They traced up her arm and played over her shoulder, Violet's eyes shifting from her hand to Kiersten's face and back again as she spoke.

"He is a friend from my life before. I have very few of those. It grants him a certain right of protectiveness. He thought me dead before and we would both prefer not to repeat the scenario." She brushed a strand of gold off of K's shoulder, urging it to fall in line with the rest that spilled down her back. "Darien has a rather direct approach to things. If he sees this as a threat to you, and then sees that as a threat to me..." She sighed. K was a Black Widow. Darien could hold his own, yes, but you didn't play with spiders and live long to tell about it.

"I knew nothing of your troubles with the tiresome Lord Astin continuing. Prince Embers was acting on his own behalf, not as an agent on mine, although I will admit he does have some right to do so. I have no intent of telling him otherwise. Time, in this world, earns certain rights. Still, if he was concerned, he could have come to me, and not to you." Even as she spoke the words, Violet knew that was ridiculously unlikely. Darien didn't consult with those he thought of as his about their well being, he just ensured they stayed fucking breathing.

Violet allowed her fingers to glide through K's hair. "What would you have me do?" The question, while simple enough, was layered with meaning. Violet wondered which answer K would offer her in return.

Kiersten listened, expression passive, while Violet enlightened her about Prince Emberes. Just what she needed: a loose-cannon Prince with a Sapphire jewel to make him even more dangerous. Did she need to tell Kelda about all of this? If it got out of hand later, she’d wondered why she wasn’t called. But if Kiersten asked her to step in and it turned out to be nothing, then she’d look like she couldn’t handle herself. Kiersten wasn’t willing to sacrifice her reputation for getting shit done just to deal with the Astins. There was a smart play here, but Kiersten needed time to consult her webs.

She decided to deal with the Siren first, then she would figure out who else needed to be dealt with.

I can respect old ties. A protective male is almost worth the other headaches that come with the territory.” Kiersten said, sighing softly. Astin would be a problem. If he’d hired Rourke to hit for him, that would be an even bigger problem. Fucking Sapphires. There were too many of them in her life. Minus Kelda, they were all big pain in her ass.

She took a deep breath as Violet drew her fingertips over her the inside of her forearm. She looked down at the hand stroking the inside of her forearm. She sighed, narrowly avoiding the sound shifting into a moan. There were too many naked people, too much scattered flesh around her to keep her thoughts straight.

You don’t need to do anything. I’ll take it from here.” Kiersten said, tongue daring out over her lips for a brief second. She needed to get out of here and get some fresh air.

Thanks for telling me about you and him. You could have lied. You could have refused. You didn’t. I can see that he’s important to you. I’ll keep you out of it from here.” Kiersten said.

The Lady Siren could see the way her touch drew K's attention, but the will of the Black Widow remained iron in its resoluteness. She neither furthered the touch between them nor commanded Vi to stop, capable it seemed of withstanding the lure without being swallowed whole by the waves. Perhaps Kiersten could have navigated those seas and heard the sirens' calls without crashing into the rocks. Violet didn't think she had ever known someone to resist such a thing, but then, few bothered to resist her, either.

"He is," she agreed, smiling. "Worth the headaches." How many headaches had D caused her over the years? Was that somehow balanced out by the number of orgasms he was equally responsible for? "I am sorry he has caused any for you, although it does sound rather more like our friend Lord Astin is responsible for those."

Violet disliked the idea of Kiersten being in any kind of danger. Unlike her Sirens, she couldn't have the Shields ensure her safety. Vi's sovereignty may be absolute within these walls, but beyond them was a city that she held no power to command and a Territory that eliminated her entire family. Safety was an illusion. No matter how high Violet rose, she doubted that would be a lesson she was likely to forget.

"Thank you for keeping me out of it. I would hate to cause you anything but pleasant experiences." The words were true, offered with multiple meanings but no irony. Violet leaned forward and brushed her lips lightly across K's cheek before withdrawing to her own seat, her hands receding to her own lap like the gentle dance of the shore.

"If you change your mind, you know where to find me. You are always welcome. And I always enjoy your visits, short as they are. Perhaps sometime you will spend the evening here. Share a meal with me." Her eyes flicked to the sweat slicked bodies, offering question to which kind of meal she hoped to share.

Kiersten breathed a small sigh of relief when Violet backed off, even as part of her regretted the woman’s sudden distance. She’d been trying to resist Violet Kaos since they first met. The woman’s raw allure was hard enough to resist, but combined with the Craft that seemed ever present around her, the Black Widow knew that mixing business with pleasure sans precautions would see her crushed against the same rocks that so many other men and women ran aground on with her. Kiersten refused to be ruled by her libido...even if it was speaking really loudly right now.

Yes, Lord Astin’s the problem. I may have visit him again and suggest that he call off his uncle. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll talk to Prince Embers about negotiating a sit-down with him. These two-bit thugs like to pretend that they’re businessmen. We’ll see if they fake it long enough to make a mutually beneficial deal.” Kiersten said, finishing the rest of her drink. She’d had two and now it was time to stop before she did something foolish.

You’re welcome. You’re my business partner and this is Little Terreille. We gotta stick together, right?” she asked, as Violet leaned in brushed her lips across Kiersten’s cheek. The feel of her lips lingered on the Black Widow’s skin and she sighed, reaching out to grasp Violet’s thigh involuntarily.

Get up and leave. Walk away right fucking now. Get out of here, go home and take a cold shower. Or jump in the river. Or the ocean.

Hey, Siren?” she asked.

Is this everything on the menu?” she asked, gesturing to the bodies around them engaged in any number of carnal exploits.

Or are you holding out on some private stock you can share?
