Clark had missed the ocean. More than that, she'd missed the easy camaraderie that came between sailors. On a Scelt ship, she wouldn't have found that, not even in the littlest bit. The crew on the Little Terreillean vessel from Lady Kasidhe Sheane had a different attitude, though, and a passenger who knew the ropes (so to speak) was a welcome change of pace. Evidently they'd expected a Black Widow to jess herself up in a cabin and complain bitterly about the various indignities of life on the waves, but Clark was very much not that widow. By the time she'd disembarked, the ship was spotlessly clean and organized. Hopefully, when she returned to Scelt, she'd travel with the same crew.

The nine-fingered Black Widow went directly to the seat of the Coven, where she was assured that Lady Sheane would be waiting. Having booked passage, Kasidhe was no doubt aware of the arrival window for Clark's ship. Being a Black Widow, even the slight delays that were expected for any seafaring voyage posed no obstacle. Clark could arrive at the seat of Lady Sheane's power with confidence that she would not be made to wait overlong. Some waiting, she assumed, was the nature of the beast; she was hardly going to complain when Lady Sheane had agreed to serve as benefactor for the entirety of the Scelt Coven, returning to them the designs and arts that ought to be theirs.

When she was shown into Lady Sheane's presence, Clark's bow was Protocol-perfect. No doubt she presented a fastidious front; while it was clear she'd been traveling, one might never have guessed by what route unless they'd booked the trip. She folded her hands before her, the whole hand over the one that lacked a finger, and said, "Lady Sheane. It's an honor to meet you in person."

There was not a long way for the Lady Erskine despite that it happened. Within a handful of minutes, she was being led towards Kasidhe's office by a familiar Prince that had spent time in Scelt not so long ago. He conversed with her, catching up as it were until they reached their destination. With a polite bow, the Prince left.

Kasidhe was standing and looking over a corkboard when the Tiger-Eye Black Widow entered. The contents of which was a schedule that she was fine-tuning (that of the younger Black Widows and their lessons) before she simply spun on her heel to meet her long-awaited guest. Lady Clark Erskine traveled well was the first thought that Kasidhe had, taking in her appearance. The next was that she honestly could not recall another who executed such a Protocol perfect bow.

"The honor is mine, Lady Erskine," said Kasidhe, a certain level of respect shown (more than both Protocol and Etiquette would dictate) as she greeted Clark. "How was your trip? The Captain is an old friend of my father's and practically family." With the formalities out of the way, she gestured for the Black Widow to have a seat. "We won't be staying here all day, of course, but I thought it best if first meet here, have some tea, and discuss things." Discussing things meant Kasidhe finally being able to bend Clark's ear about all that she hoped to achieve while here.

From there they could figure out just what would be happening. "I've also had lodgings prepared for you and we'll be able to dine whenever you'd like." That made Kasidhe pause as another thought crossed her mind. "Are you peckish? I could have something brought with the tea." Eventually, once they got down to business, it would be all too easy to see why Kasidhe was Head of the Hourglass. She was wholly dedicated to it, just as she was dedicated to doing what she could to help Clark and the other Black Widows of Scelt.

Clark wasn't expecting the respect she was shown, and she honestly felt a little affronted at realizing that Kasidhe was offering a deeper bow than she ought to. Clark didn't even technically have rank in the Coven; that wasn't how Molly ran things, for all Clark wished she did. Was Kasidhe being condescending? She didn't think that it was in the personality of the Sheane Widow to mistreat a guest, but Clark knew the pitiable picture she cut with her missing finger and her gaunt pale face. She wasn't pretty or charismatic, she was maimed and bookish and boyish, and she dressed like a country bum besides.

"It was fine," said Clark, meaning wonderful and just stopping herself from saying it. "A clean, well-kept ship." Almost no rats, which was truly a feat, and the cat caught the rest of them. And the crew! That crew... was that how it was to be a Black Widow in the Coven of Little Terreille? Did all Widows receive such even-handed treatment, such respect in this place? Clark wanted to interrogate Kasidhe, but more than that, she wanted to know how it had all gone so wrong in Scelt. Why hadn't her new Caste been seen as the gift it was?

Instead, she took a grateful seat. "I could eat." The response came rote. There were students who wore Dark Jewels and who wouldn't eat unless another was eating with them. Clark had become accustomed to grazing for her meals, sitting between a Blood Opal friend and an Opal student. She thought about Molly's advice. Invite intimacy by inviting her to call you Clark, Molly had urged. At the time, it'd seemed good advice. In the morning, Clark found she didn't quite trust herself to not do something terribly offensive to the Sapphire Black Widow standing at the desk.

"My hope is to acquire textbooks and training to bring back to the Coven," she said. "We have only two fully-trained Widows, and I am not one of them, I'm simply the closest we have outside those two." The most expendable, yet least offensive option.
