Right Where It Belongs

Rayner had been in Goth for a couple weeks now trying to poke her nose around and sniff out who was in charge of some of the trade that The Exchange would be interested in. While Rayner herself didn't deal with some of the more nefarious parts of the criminal group, she was still keyed in with what the "organization" traded in as a whole. Looking out for the growth of her own business, she had kept close to Johannes and helped his rise to the leadership of The Exchange. Knowing that opportunity was available to them just at the border, she'd said she'd go do some recon, taking one of Johannes' men as backup.

So far it had been murky at best. Goth was a sprawling mega city, much bigger than anything Rayner had been in. The cobbled streets, busy wharfs, smoke and massive amounts of people were disorienting. It felt like Goth had more people in it than all of Rihland did in the entire Territory. Places were noisy, there were no trees to be seen, and the smell of smoke seemed to be everywhere.

So far, the Half-Eyrien woman was not a fan.

Still, she'd made some progress. She'd found a couple low-level distributors of harder drugs and people who even made new stuff she'd never seen before. She had snooped around a brothel by the name of the Bodelian which had promise as a distribution center for her crystals that catered to all manner of tastes and had sent her proposal to the head of the house. As her work was mostly legal, just illicit, she wasn't worried about someone hearing about what she was about.

The rest she wasn't as loud about.

The Gangs of Goth were diminished but not dead, and she'd had a couple run-ins already with gentlemen who didn't much care for her lines of inquiry. She'd handled herself well but she was starting to see it was a competitive market. Her man was resting after the last scuffle, so she smoked idly on a cigarette in the bar as he slept upstairs, considering her next move as to who she was going to dig into and just who she might tempt into becoming a trade partner with the Exchange.

It was a lot of potential but also a fuck ton of stress, and she was visibly aggravated as she went through her small notebook of names.

The trouble with Black Widows was that they could be sneaky little shits.

Kelda was convinced that the greatest and most under-appreciated strength of Black Widows was not their ability to walk the Twisted Kingdom or concoct myriad poisons, but their ability to hide their work. A Widow's webs could be damnably hard to detect by non-Widows, and even the Black could be taken down by the right web, if they were caught by surprise.

Granted, that was theory and not something Kelda had attempted to confirm empirically. The cost of misjudging that was a bit higher than she wanted to risk paying. And besides, for the moment the only Black around was one whose presence made it possible for the current regime to remain in place, and Kelda rather liked where she'd gotten herself. The Bodleian was already in the black thanks to Violet's instincts and experience. Kiersten had opened up a whole new stream of revenue (which she might not be aware was feeding Kelda's coffers in the end, but it was) and seemed to be managing it well. Izzy had never had her head more in the game than she seemed to now; Kelda scarcely heard a peep from her, though the work got done with the Rose witch's usual reliability. A pet spy had successfully been installed at Amerys' elbow, and the Roux family's captive fortune-teller had been successfully liberated and was currently (sort of) healing in a safe house, which would hamper their ability to interfere with Kelda's work, going forward. Geir seemed content, for the most part, with his shitty little bar and all his wasted potential. It was worth it to Kelda to let him be for now, just to enjoy some relaxation in the static between them.

Successful as she felt, business-wise, there always seemed to be room to want more. Kelda had put quite a formidable amount of energy into keeping her work under the radar, so that precious few people knew she was the single mind behind so much of Little Terrielle's shadier entertainments. It was a method of operating that'd kept her alive in her first years in LT, and she'd seen no reason to change it even after the Hell Lords were abolished. There were other gangs still, after all, some of whom were still under the impression that they were the kingpins of the Territory. By keeping her outfits splintered up and seeming small, Kelda tended to escape their notice even while outselling them. She had the occasional dispute to settle, of course, but she rarely had to tend to those things in person, these days. Nor did she typically show up herself to investigate every new venture that crossed her path. She had people she trusted (relatively) who knew what she looked for in a new opportunity, and by the time new dealers or lines of supply came to her they'd already been vetted. When she heard Rayner's name three times in three days, though, Kelda decided to go investigate personally.

Black Widows, after all, were sneaky little shits.

She'd left word with some of her more strategically-placed people to keep an eye out for the Tiger Eye woman, and it wasn't long before she got word of her presence at a bar downtown. Suddenly, she was sitting one seat down from Ostana, speaking around the cigarette she was lighting.

"What's the matter?" She drew a deep drag off of the newly-lit cig and turned on her stool, facing Rayner a little more while she exhaled off to one side. Shit, she thought, noting the gold eyes and dark skin. It meant the woman's appearance meant fuck-all as far as figuring out her age, and there was no Widow scarier than an old Widow. Outwardly, though, Kelda let a lazy smile take her lips, secure in the webs that protected her. "You look like your little book has pissed you off somethin' fierce, friend."

Rayner didn't look up from her book as the Glacian called over to her. There, something told her. A little thread in her jacket tingled. "I had a feeling..." The Half-Breed's words rolled slowly from her tongue as she languidly drew her head up, her whole body more liquid than solid as she slowly closed her book. "That if I stepped on enough threads the spider would come to check on the fly."

There, the Tiger-Eye Widow turned to regard the woman who'd called to her. She vanished her book and lifted a hand to take hold of a single strand of curled hair, regarding her more sidelong than straight-ahead, her golden eyes flaring in the dark.

"It does have me very pissed off. But that's okay. Some things in life just become irritating if you look at them for too long." Conjuring her own cigarette with her free hand, a flicker of her single jewel set it alight and she placed it to the edge of her mouth. A single, slow drag came to give her a rush of nicotine.

"You don't seem to be one of them, though, pretty." Rayner's full-lipped smile bloomed. "I rather think I'd like looking at you for a long period of time.

I hope my poking around didn't cause too much of a problem?"
She shifted her head, her finger curling in her hair, her smile shifting sidelong along with the rest of her. "Everyone I spoke to seemed enthused."

And if she had used more than one web to lead her in the right direction, well, she hadn't earned her Caste to not use it.

Kelda propped one elbow on the bar and leaned against it, cigarette held aloft by that hand when she wasn't smoking it. Her other hand claimed the back of the bar seat that sat empty between herself and Rayner, laying atop it in a relaxed fashion that didn't seem to be anything but a casually resting position. Rayner turned to regard her some, and a few seconds after the woman's words about spiders and flies had paused, Kelda's smile sliced sharp and calm across her face. She watched the other woman even as she turned her head a little and brought her cigarette to her lips. Inhaled. Exhaled. Watched. She was quietly diagnosing the latent Craft and webs the foreign witch had about her, if any, while listening to her speak. Kelda's own body was riddled in Sapphire webs, and though the complexities of them might escape the eye of the Lighter Jeweled witch, it'd be clear that the elder woman was in no way unarmored or unarmed.

Unless they were all just fashion and cosmetic webs, of course. Could happen.

"Oh, they were plenty enthused, I'm sure," she said dryly, brows lifting while her eyes slipped away for a beat, watching as she ashed her cigarette into a tray on the bar. "But they know better than to stick their dick in just any old glory hole without checking it out first. What you're lookin' to sell has the potential to be dangerous, if someone had a mind to be mean. I'm not saying we can't do business, if that's still what you're after, but I'd like a chance to do a little inspecting and see what I'm getting myself into."

She paused, drew a drag off of her cigarette, and exhaled the plume of smoke off to one side.

"So? Wanna head somewhere less public and open up for mama?" she asked, her grin turning more playful.

Rayner's nose wrinkled in distaste at Kelda's phrasing. The Black Widow's eyes narrowed just a touch at the web-covered woman. She herself hadn't come unprepared, and while her Tiger Eye was nothing compared to a Sapphire, she was certainly defended well enough. A little forewarning against compulsion here, a tingling for offensive Craft there, it was enough to let a girl get by in a dangerous city. "I hope you don't call all your potential business partners glory holes." The prickliness of the Caste was evident - and her mien had shifted from something warm and playful to something less open.

Taking a drag from her cigarette she seemed to consider Kelda for a long moment, her enthusiasm for playing ball with the Sapphire Widow having diminished for the poor choice of words. "But I think I'll let your little slip-up pass. You get forgiving once you get past your first century, and I think our business could be mutually beneficial." She put down her cigarette into the ash tray and with a flicker of power disintegrated it, not wanting to leave anything behind for someone to track her with.

"Let's go, kid." She gestured for Kelda to lead, and once she got up the Half-Breed would follow. She touched on a button at her sleeve, something to ping Johannes's escort for her. She sent him a thread to keep his distance but follow after her. After all, while the stranger might have been a Darker Jeweled Widow, it didn't mean that she had to surrender herself completely to her power.

Rayner's comment about glory holes caught Kelda off guard and she laughed a little. At first, it was because the Tiger Eye had misinterpreted her comment, but then it was because the notion of a porn peddler being offended by the idea of a glory hole was sorta rich, she thought.

The fact that Rayner then decided aloud to let Kelda's "slip-up" pass caused that little moment of lightness to shift some, though. The smile lingered on Kelda's face but the humor, less so. She took a slow draw from her cigarette, and exhaled it in a steady plume before answering. Before she did, the other Black Widow tamped out her own cigarette, and suggested they go.

Kelda made no move to get up.

"First of all, I wasn't referring to you, Precious. Your wares. Seems a silly thing to take offense to, all things considered, but..." she shrugged her shoulders, eyed her cig while she rolled it between her fingers. "Second, it wasn't a slip-up. If that's the kinda thing that requires such magnanimous forgiveness, oh Ancient One, then we're not gonna work out well in the long run anyway, so save your concession." She turned then, spinning on her stool so that an elbow leaned on the bar and she faced Rayner fully.

"Third, if we're doin' business, then you're gonna address me with a little more respect than that. Lady V will do just fine. And you are?" If Rayner didn't bounce before that point, Kelda would extend her hand for the greeting, her vibe patient and calm.

Rayner watched as the blonde didn't rise, her own Black Widow Caste coming to the fore. A pair of Black Widows in a small space, aggravated, was much like a pair of Warlord Princes. Snarly women were just as dangerous (Rayner would say more so) than snarly men. It was a lesson she'd learned early on when dealing with the old bitch. And as much as it might do her well in the short term to just smile and take it, she'd never been one to go along with things just for the ease of them,

"It's a silly thing when you're calling someone else the glory hole." She responded flatly to the blonde's clarification, lifting an eyebrow at her second point. "And if your message was received in a way outside of how it was intended, it's a mistake.

Third, it's not clear we're doing business yet, Lady.

But you can call me Rayner. Not Precious. Not Ancient One. Just Rayner.

If we can get past the names, then I can show you it's worth your time. And if we can't -- well, maybe you're right in that we won't work in the long run."

She didn't take the other Black Widow's hand, but she did wait to see how this insulting little shit was going to play.

"Be glad to, Rayner," the blonde witch conceded easily, her smile turning a little lazy, a little more relaxed. The extended hand that got ignored tilted into into an oh-well sort of gesture and dropped, and Kelda leaned a little more on the elbow she'd propped on the bar. She drew in a long breath through her cigarette, then knocked the cherry off into the dish on the bar before vanishing the half-finished stick. She stood up as she exhaled, though in the process of turning to face the door, she paused while facing the darker-skinned Widow.

"But it's only a mistake if I regret it," she said. There was a pause there, a locking of eyes just enough to confirm the steel in the Glacian's spine. Then she smirked and winked, and if Rayner didn't blow her top at that, she'd nod sideways towards the door.

"I like seein' a little spice in my associates," she said lightly as she moved, seemingly having moved past the tension entirely. "Keeps things interesting, and gives me hope they're not gonna roll over at the first sign of trouble. But I bet you don't see trouble all that often, do ya, Rayner?" She'd turned around to push the door open with her back, and took that moment of facing the other witch to grin brightly at her, clearly insincere in her words at the last.

The old bitch had tried to rile Rayner when she was younger. Or maybe it wasn't an abject lesson so much as the ancient Eyrien woman liked getting a rise out of Rayner when she was younger and just learning the Caste. Whatever it was, it had instilled in the witch that had only one Jewel a certain patience. Delayed gratification could do a lot for someone - be it in business or in bed - and now that they were moving past the little show of claws between predators they could move past that into what Rayner had come here for.

But she wouldn't forget the way that 'Lady V' smiled and said her piece. But Rayner just smiled back slowly.

After all, the Glacian would be long dead in her grave before Rayner got her first wrinkle. That always was a piece of solace that kept her temper in check.

"Just the flavors I like." She responded easily and followed after Lady V, her hands sliding into her pockets. She knew the drill by now when dealing with the powerful. She'd lived a lifetime with Eyriens wanting to get stroked to feel like they were in charge. "Haven't found one in Goth to my palette yet, though."

As they stepped out of the bar her bright eyes swept over the alleys and the nooks nearby that could be hiding people. You didn't have to use a Sight Shield to stay hidden, and if Lady V had someone following that held a darker Jewel than Rayner's own Tiger Eye it wouldn't much matter. But that sort of muscle was hard to come by.

"So what do you want to see? A full product? A sample?" Best to focus on the business now rather than instant gratification of her own, now relaxing, annoyance.

"Yeahhh..." Kelda sighed, her gaze sweeping across the urban landscape once they were outside. "It's got its bitter parts, that's for damn sure." Rayner asked what she was hoping to see, and the Sapphire witch shook her head a little.

"Dunno. You'll have to explain what the difference is. My guys tell me you're selling crystals, was it? Sex scenes that people can take home and watch over and over on their own, right? What's a sample versus a full product?"

When she started moving, Kelda walked with a purpose despite the fact that her gait wasn't particularly rushed. Mulvaney's pub wasn't far, and it was a space she trusted more than the random bar in which she'd found Rayner. She gave a nod to the bartender as she walked past the bustling counter and into the back of the house where the office was, and then down into the cellar marked Private. Security webs tickled the senses to those tuned to such things, but Kelda didn't pause unless Rayner gave her reason to.

If the Rihlander followed, she'd find herself in a cellar that'd been converted into a workshop for a Black Widow. Several, actually, if the traces of various psychic scents was any indication. It was nominally still an ale cellar, as there were kegs stacked against one wall, but the majority of the space was taken up by counters and tables, all topped with the trappings of the various Widow arts. The two of them would be the only ones present at the moment though, unless Rayner confessed to the presence of the fellow following her. If Rayner was careless enough to let him follow her into a Widow's haven without announcing his presence, he'd get a rather rude (and potentially lethal) reminder of why that was a Bad Idea. If she mentioned him to Kelda, though, the Glacian wouldn't seem bothered by his presence, or by allowing him into the cellar with them.

Rayner followed after Kelda without missing a step. She took her time watching over the landscape, the woman who was her lead (for the moment) and her surroundings. Kelda's comment drew a wry smirk from the half-breed, and the full-lipped woman seemed amused. "It has it's charms, though. Back where I'm from it's mostly small towns and Eyries. Not as many people, or as many problems." But one big problem. Then again, Little Terreille supposedly had the same issue.

Looking at the giant tower standing up in the heart of the city, it seemed they both had a similar mind on how things ought to be, too.

"I called the boy that was asleep upstairs. He'll be running along in a few to keep an eye on me. Not that I don't trust you - the boss sent him out here to make sure I don't get into any trouble." She shot a sidelong smirk over toward Kelda, following her lead as they began down the stairs of the cellar. Rayner took note of the workshop, a not-bad sign expression of appreciation clear, and her golden-twinged eyes took in all of the details of the room.

"A sample is something little. You give me a general description of what you want and I make it. The full product is an entirely different hemisphere in terms of experience. It requires more trust, because I need to get into someone's head to get all of their kinks and sensations, but the end result is a much more visceral experience."

Rayner turned to face Kelda then once she settled into the room. She snapped her long fingers and produced a small white crystal that floated over the palm of her hand. "The sample will still be more than just a scene - you are in the experience. When you activate it my Craft keeps it visceral, real. As long as the scene plays, you're in there, experiencing it as fresh and as new as it's the first time.

The fuller product is more nuanced - just because I can tell what'll turn you on. The stuff you talk about and the stuff you keep to yourself."
Rayner's eyes darted up from the crystal, focused directly on Kelda, and a slow grin took over her face. In the ambient light and the soft glow of the crystal, she appeared like a mischievous dark spirit with the mixture of her skin and eyes.

"I'm working on something bigger. But I'm not ready to sell that just yet. So, Lady V.

Is there a fantasy you want to see?"

"You're meeting an unfamiliar Widow on her home turf," she pointed out, with a smirk and a sideways glance at the news about the male who'd be following. "If you did trust me entirely I'd be worried. Tell him to let you know when he's at the door, and I'll let him in."

Once they hit the cellar, Kelda leaned a hip against one of the work tables and folded her arms, her attention apparently wholly on the other Widow while Rayner explained her wares.

"Huh." Her eyes narrowed as she considered it. It sounded like a clever use of Craft, and there was undoubtedly a market for it in Little Terreille. Business-minded as she was, though, trying to figure out the logistics of it bothered Kelda.

"Maybe," she said, a brow lifting at the notion of wanting to see a fantasy. "How are you proposing to sell these here? You trying to set up a permanent shop? I was under the impression you were looking for a distributor, but I dunno how you'd make the kind of thing you're talking about without sitting down one-on-one with the client. Unless you're talking about mass-producing duplicate crystals off of set fantasies, maybe? How are you picturing this working?" She was already considering the possibilities, thinking about having Rayner sit down with the girls at the Bodleian to have them craft their clients' most popular fantasies. Sure, it wouldn't be as rich as having Rayner hand-craft an experience, but that sort of thing could maybe still be offered as a boutique service. Perhaps the less intense, mass-produced version could go at a more friendly rate.

"Do you work exclusively with sexual fantasies?"

Rayner's man came down after a few moments, allowing them to talk shop with her escort in tow. He was more clearly Rihlander than her - one of Johannes's men that was a little young but knew the routes to get out of Rihland without problem and would be good for setting up a distribution line. Rayner introduced him as 'Gunter' and it was clear the young man was still a little overwhelmed by big city life and was obviously taken by Kelda's appearance as he walked down. His eyes lingered in a way that made it obvious, even as Rayner talked business.

"I can make the more generic ones that can be used by just about anyone, as long as they're Blood. It won't be as good of an experience, but you get what you paid for. I have a bunch back home, but I don't mind coming here for a bit to help you oversee the production. The webwork is tricky - not anyone can do it, even a skilled Widow would take a while to train. Like you said, it has the potential to be really nasty if done wrong.

How big is your distribution? What's your reach? I've had a couple different offers - mostly from the Gatekeepers and the Chimerans, some smaller outfits too."
She wasn't afraid to make it clear who was interested in her product, she knew what she was selling had potential.

"If you've a young Widow you see potential in I can take her as an apprentice. It'll take probably a year to get someone on to the same competency as me, but I'm willing to make the investment of my time if you've got something to make it worthwhile - as for what I work with..."

She hovered the crystal a bit, her eyes lifting to it as it rotated and small different patterns slid along the edges of different colors. "I've done other things. Books, being able to say goodbye to loved ones, but sex was always what sold best, especially in Rihland when so much was outlawed.

But there's stuff here, too. Adultery. Snuff."
Her eyes lowered from the crystal to focus on Kelda directly, and here Rayner's smile faded to something more serious, the levity much gone. "Worse." Then she closed her fingers around the crystal, the luminescence gone. "And what I give them is as sharp and visceral as a real experience. And a turn with a well-trained sex worker might well get you off.

But it won't be the same thing."

Rayner lifted an eyebrow up toward Kelda in question. "So? What you got in mind for a sample? Or are you already sold?" Rayner would be surprised if Lady V was down already; after all Rayner could be talking out of her ass. But she could well be uninterested in risking herself on a sample ware - something that Rayner also wouldn't blame her on.

"At the moment, I feel pretty confident that my reach is farther than you can supply easily. Maybe once you get set up with some apprentices you could match my spread, but there's always room for expansion at that point," the Sapphire Widow explained, while pushing herself up to sit atop the edge of one of the picnic tables. She hadn't outright eyed the escort beyond a passing glance when he'd arrived, but she wore his attention like a favorite set of jeans, snug and comforting. For Kelda, it was never an unpleasant thing to be noticed by a good looking fellow, and that little detail helped to keep her mood warm for the moment.

"Word of advice, though, take it or leave it - I wouldn't get mixed up with the bigger gangs right now. They're about to have a bad time." She produced a cigarette, but instead of lighting it right away she watched it as she rolled it between her fingertips, clearly thinking over the matter for a moment. It was rare that she had to allow herself to be seen weighing a topic visibly; she made a point of being prepared before entering a situation, as much as she possibly could. This, though, deserved serious contemplation. The risks alone demanded that.

Kelda's eyes lifted and she watched Rayner while the darker woman explained some of the options available. Once she'd finished, Kelda continued to watch her for a beat, jaw shifting in a thoughtful manner. Her eyes then skipped to the escort, as though sizing him up before she returned her attention to Rayner.

"I'm pretty interested. But I do wanna see it in action before we go much further... assuming you don't mind lending your escort to that end." She looked to Gunter and cracked a sideways smile. "What do you say, handsome? Wanna help close the deal?" If Gunter didn't seem opposed to the idea yet, Kelda would explain further, mostly to Rayner.

"How about we have him name a fantasy, and you build it for him. If he'll let me into his head for a few minutes, I can witness how the crystal works and what its effects are on him, both from internal and external perspectives. It's invasive, I know," she said, sliding her eyes back to Gunter. "But I promise to behave. You won't even know I'm there." There was interest in the way she watched the male while he responded, though afterwards she looked to Rayner again.

"I've no incentive to try to hurt either one of you. But frankly, as interested as I am in what you're sellin', I don't know you from Witch. So stickin' my head into what you've brought before I know what I'm dealing with seems a little... cavalier," she said, with a grin sliding up one side of her mouth at the last. "No offense."

"Are they?" Rayner lifted a dark eyebrow up, curious at Kelda's suggestion that the Gangs were in for bad days ahead. "Well, I'll keep that to myself if we're in business." The Half-Breed Widow smiled slowly in warmth to the Glacian, figuring she had some inside information. Maybe it was a vision, maybe it was solid intelligence, one could never tell with a Black Widow, especially a Dark Jeweled one. They tended to be very sneaky fucks.

Lady V's suggestion on how to preview the product was intriguing. Rayner hadn't considered that route, and the way her eyebrows went up in surprise was indicative of that. She gave a bit of an approving expression and nodded. Gunter seemed uncertain, but Lady V's smile toward him seemed to have diminished some of his tentativeness - Johannes had done good by sending this one along. He understood what was at stake here.

"None taken. It's pretty smart to do it this way - I'll make sure to look into making that standard S.O.P. here on out." She gestured to the loom and the rest of the workshop. "Going to borrow your shop, if that's okay? Let's go with the quick product, as that'll be mostly what you're looking at. Maybe you'll want something personal after." Rayner grinned at the Glacian, a touch of arrogance in her mien. "We'll call it a signing bonus."

Turning to Gunter, she lifted an eyebrow. "Well, let's hear it." She pulled up a stool while Gunter cleared his throat and took a breath.

"I always wanted to fuck a Priestess during a confessional. You know Oskar's sister?"

Rayner lifted an eyebrow slowly at Gunter in question. "The High Priestess of the entire damn Territory, you mean?"

Gunter grinned, shrugging. "It's a fantasy, right?"

The Tiger-Eye Widow let out a rich laugh. "You're right, boyo. This won't be as specialized as the first one I gave you, so don't get bitter if it's not as good." She winked and turned to the loom, drawing thread.

--

It took about half an hour, but if Kelda paid attention to Ostana's work, she would see it was because the Halfbreed was damn good. She made an intricate web look as difficult as tying one's shoes and with a bit of Tiger Eye power, she put it inside the memory crystal she'd placed on the table. "For the quick 'n dirty ones, I can use my own and just write over it. For a personalized, I'd ask them to make me one and do the same - the connection with their psychic imprint lends to more connection to the memory. Enriches it."

Extending the crystal toward Gunter, she leaned back in her seat once the Warlord relieved her of it. She nodded to the man and let one arm fall onto the back of the chair as she shifted her body to watch him. "Okay, I'll lower my barriers now. Please don't cook my mind."

As Kelda reached into his mind, Gunter closed his eyes and accessed the memory crystal. Instantly his awareness of his surroundings shifted from the small room to fresh air, clear skies, and a bit of chill in the wind as he walked into a small wooden building set beside a stream. Each step felt real, the air itself felt refreshing, as if she'd breathed it in herself. She could sense immediately that the Memory Crystal's usual ability to draw up the sensations and feelings of the moment were augmented; coming sharper and more real than they normally would be.

He reached the door and entered through. The smell of goat was in the air and before him was a slender woman with noble features, full lips (painted a fleshy peach color), large brown eyes, and wore a thin white robe. The cold had made her nipples stand on end, her breasts seeming to push the robe in such a way as it made her curves apparent and visible. She smiled gently toward Gunter, a curved knife held in hand.

"Hello Gunter." Her voice, sweet and silk came like poetry.

"Hello Adalwolfa." Gunter said aloud and in memory.

"Give to the All-Mother, and be resewed in turn." Adalwolfa extended him the knife and pulled on the leash, the goat letting out a soft bawing sound.

Gunter took the knife in hand and Kelda could feel its heavy weight - the stone that was used for its handle, the metal of the blade, it's care made in its craftsmanship. He reached down and cut the throat of the goat. It made a final sound, and the smell of blood was thick in the air. Kelda could feel the heat of the blood on her hands.

"Oh, Gunter." Adalwolfa pouted, her full lips looking more alluring in the light of the wooden cabin. "You've made a mess of your pants." She reached forward slowly, discarding the leash as the goat fell to the side of the floor, dead. It faded from view - the prop used, and Adalwolfa's smooth fingers touched the hem of his pants. "Let me help you."

Kelda could see the Priestess fall slowly to her knees, resting in a pool of fresh blood. She looked up into Kelda's eyes, her hands pulling down the hem of the pants. Gunter's cock sprang to life and the full-lipped Priestess reached forward, kissing the crown of his dick with a kiss that felt soft, moist, and warm. He groaned softly in the room, and she reached forward to draw him slowly into her mouth. Kelda could feel the warmth of her tongue, the strong muscle sliding along the veins, the soft sucking sensation as Adalwolfa gently pulled him deeper into her mouth.

Gunter tossed aside the knife and with bloodied hands slid them into Adalwolfa's dark locks, making a mess of her pristine hair. She felt the softness of the Priestess's scalp, the full lustrousness of her hair, and felt the Priestess's fingers slide along her thighs as if exploring her.

Slowly the Priestess began to suck him off, her head bobbing gently to and fro, and Gunter groaned softly, his head thrown back as his hand gripped the crystal tight. His pants grew tight as he visibly grew an erection as the fantasy became real for him.

"It responds to its viewer." Rayner said from nearby Kelda, having risen up to her feet to watch her as she experienced the crystal through Gunter's eyes. Her voice was softer now, more of a deep rumble than a whisper. "It senses what he wants and changes to fit him. It reacts and modulates, so it will never truly be the same thing."

Rayner's voice had been non-intrusive, purposefully watching her potential business partner to see for her reactions, waiting if she'd continue to ride along with Gunter's 'demonstration' or put a stop to it.

"Yeah, sure."

Kelda nodded when Rayner asked to use the nearby loom, and slid off of the table on which she'd been sitting. Her hands slipped into the back pockets of her jeans and she moved towards the loom at a leisurely pace, intent on observing the creation process. Rayner's offer of a signing bonus won a smirk of amusement, but Kelda didn't comment beyond that. There was no fantasy she could call to mind that was worth letting an unfamiliar Black Widow into her head, she thought. Maybe one day, if and when Rayner had stuck around long enough to prove herself trustworthy, but not now. She kept that thought to herself for the moment, though, and watched as the foreigners discussed what fantasy would be built for the demonstration.

The Glacian didn't comment while Rayner worked, either. She watched with a keen eye to follow the process, keeping only vague tabs on the nearby male. There was an occasional nod - not that Rayner would likely see it, focused as she was on her work - when the half-breed turned a particularly skilled knot or an impressive braid. It both comforted Kelda and heightened her reservations to see such competence. It lent credence to the notion that Rayner was legit, and that this really was her business rather than some kind of trap or other ruse aimed at Kelda. On the other hand, the range of ways Rayner could very discreetly but very thoroughly fuck someone up with one of those crystals seemed to increase several-fold. There was no Widow so dangerous as a subtle Widow, and the kind of deftness Rayner displayed while working was quite telling.

But as usual, Kelda kept those thoughts to herself. She smiled at the male when he asked her to not cook his mind, and she nodded.

"I promised, didn't I?" she reminded him, as though her word should mean something to a perfect stranger. She returned to the table and pushed up to sit atop it again while he acquired the crystal from Rayner, and she shielded herself, opened her senses, and reached out for the man's mind. True to her word, she used a light touch when moving past his lowered barriers. He'd be hard pressed to find her there, though she quickly enveloped the whole of his awareness. Shielded as she was, she was more willing than normal to focus her attention primarily on the male despite Rayner's presence nearby.

The crystal started to play, and suddenly Kelda was enveloped in a different world. It was disorienting, and she gripped the edge of the table and opened her eyes, shoving away the awareness of the male's mind for a moment in order to ground herself again in the real world. Frowning, she narrowed her eyes and went back in, a little more prepared for what to expect this time. That concerned look gradually eased off of her face while she once more immersed herself in the male's thoughts and experience. It was strange, but attractively so. She could smell the animal in the room with the Priestess, could feel the weight of the earth beneath Gunter's feet.

Hello Adalwolfa, Kelda felt herself say. No, not herself... Gunter said it, though it'd felt like her own voice. She took a mental step back, trying to ignore the rising lust in the mind around her for the sake of observing the happenings more objectively. It worked in part, at least. Kelda didn't escape surrendering a little arousal of her own, but she opened her eyes and focused on the physical sight of Gunter, whose eyes were closed and cock was hardening. He was fully immersed. Kelda looked towards his mind once more, though from a different angle. Rather than viewing his thoughts this time, she concentrated on the Tiger Eye web that gripped him, and how the Black Widow's power moved through the device to create the effect Gunter was so enjoying. It was a simple enough idea, in theory, but the execution of it was nothing short of impressive. Particularly when considering the adaptability of the thing. If what Rayner claimed was true and it created a unique experience every time, a device like that could seriously alter the nature of the sex trade in Little Terreille.

Kelda blinked and released the Craft linking her to Gunter's mind. She lingered in place for a beat, processing the matter in silence before she turned to regard Rayner with a similarly thoughtful expression.

"Alright," she said, with a nod. "I'm in. Let's talk numbers."

Rayner let Gunter enjoy his brain-vacation as she turned her full attention to Lady V in front of her. She slid her arms across her chest into more a neutral and thoughtful expression as she considered the matter of distribution, money, and output. "I'll need an apprentice or two who can take over for your production here. I don't know how tight you are with the Hourglass here, but we should keep this on the downlow. I'd prefer not to have to teach a girl into a snaketooth to get the right type - so I'll trust your read on the local talent. There's not a lot in Rihland who are business savvy enough to be worthwhile in something like this."

Lifting her painted nails to her chin, Rayner gave the matter some more thought. "Seventy Thirty cut. I can make around thirty a week of the generics. The specialized service takes a lot longer, so if you have a VIP let me know and I'll go work with them. We can make it a specialized suite affair at one of your houses." The thought of that seemed to bring a saucy grin to the Halfbreed, and her golden-flecked eyes seemed to shimmer to something more burnt in their coloring as she focused on Kelda intently for a moment.

"Once you trust me a little more you'll have to let me make one for you, V."

Now blooming to a full grin, Rayner rolled one shoulder and looked up the stairs for a moment in thought, then returned her gaze back to the Glacian Widow. "If this goes well, maybe I can help you like you're helping me. There's a lot of opportunity for LT products in Rihland, and I can be your distributor out there. The market's not as big, certainly, but you won't have competition out there either. Lets you set your own prices."

There was the issue of escaping the notice of a certain Black Jewel, of course. But it seemed that Lady V had some experience with that, if what she'd heard about Goth was remotely true. Lord Black seemed as much of a problem for crime as Prince Black, after all.

While Rayner laid out her terms, Kelda watched her with a thoughtful expression. She nodded here and there, though it was the sort of gesture that merely indicated that she understood what she was hearing. The distracted light to her gaze said she was running numbers or logistics in her mind while she listened.

It went against every instinct to not barter on the first price presented, but Kelda restrained that urge. There was the potential here for something truly lucrative, and she thought it was worth some concessions up front in order to be able to capitalize on the trade later.

"How much are you thinking to charge for the generics? I assume the specialized will be a customized price..." But really, the half-breed's answers there wouldn't change her decision, and would only help her anticipate this venture's needs. She was quiet for another thoughtful beat, and then, "Alright."

She slid down off of the table's edge again, and stood before Rayner.

"I'll set up an apartment for you here. Use it for a workshop or a bunk or both, whatever suits you. I'll provide two apprentices for you to teach your craft to - competent girls who will help you with production. We'll talk about setting up a suite for boutique services once you've got a stash of generics available and you've got the girls to a place where they're helping you rather than slowing you down. Once you're set up, I'll feed you clients for specialized webs, and you can set whatever schedule you want for filling orders.

"In exchange, I'll agree to a generous 70/30 split in your favor," she said, a brow arching as though daring Rayner to challenge her assessment. The look wasn't without some humor; Kelda didn't seem bothered by this 'generosity' at all. "But I want absolute exclusivity in Little Terreille," she said, flatly. "I'll get you what you need to be comfortable while you're working here and I'll provide you with clients, but I want my cut of everything that you produce here, without exception." She didn't bother leering or looming or forcing bass into her voice for her terms. If Rayner wasn't sharp enough to pick up on the fact that Kelda Voll meant exactly what she said, this wasn't going to be a very long-lived venture anyway.

She paused, considered the woman and her suggestion about expanding into Rihland. "We can renegotiate if things go well and Rihland becomes an option. Oh, and one more thing--" she said, pausing. For just a second, she seemed to search Raynor's expression, though for what, it'd be hard to say.

"You don't make anything involving kids here. I don't care if it's only fantasy. In fact, if you ever get a request for a specialized web involving someone not of age, you say 'okay' and then you tell me who asked for it. I'll take it from there. Agreed?"

The terms Lady V set out were generous, but most of it wasn't anything that Rayner felt was unfair. The elder Black Widow had the product and was the labor, after all, V was getting exclusive distribution rights. They'd both be happy and they'd both make money. In time, V wouldn't necessarily need Rayner for the whole shebang, but by then she'd have gotten her hooks into Little Terreille and she could always circle back into Goth later if things got messy.

"Nice. Keeps me close and keeps me cozy. I like that you've got that kinda pull, V." She dropped the 'Lady' bit, but kept the moniker, smiling through dark lips at the fact she could call up two Black Widow apprentices. "And that's fine. I don't think I'd like to deal with anyone else. Sure, you touched a nerve earlier, but I like how you do. Monogamy will be a fun experiment." Her smile bloomed to a grin, as the Black Widow came out in plenty of other ways besides being prickly.

V's last condition, the edge in which she said it, made Rayner's smile drop just a bit. It would have been inauthentic to grin at the clear indication that V wanted to cut corners on a business and also clean up pedophilia (even fantasy pedophilia) in Goth.

Well. It wasn't enough to break a deal about - not exactly the hill someone wanted to die on.

"Agreed. Adults only show. Saves me from having to make 'em." There was that smile again, diffusing, jokey.

She tapped her escort on the shoulder. "Come on, kid. We're good here. I'll be back in a week with some supplies, V. I'll drop by and leave my card at that Bar we met, we can have it be our Anniversary Spot." She turned her pretty little Warlord about on his heel with a hand on his shoulder and pushed him up the stairs.

"See ya soon." She winked back to the Glacian, then left to get ready to make a whole lot of money.
