"Come on, Garrick, we're going to be late," Diana said, tugging her friend and escort along by the wrist while he grumbled behind her. They weren't really going to be late, but to Diana, on time was late. Garrick usually argued that they got places far too early, but he usually went along with what she wanted to do anyway. Diana had noticed long ago that he had a hard time saying no to her, and she did her best not to take advantage of it. But being early was harmless, and he hadn't actually protested.

When the crowd got a little more dense, Diana stopped pulling on Garrick and let him break the path for her. When people realized she was a Queen, they often stepped aside, but if they weren't paying attention to the others around them, it was easier to let Garrick get her through since he was both larger and taller than she was.

Finally, they broke through the shoppers and found the restaurant they had agreed to meet Ura at. It had outdoor tables for when the weather was nice, with umbrellas on them to keep the sun off the diners. Diana suspected they had spells on them to help them stand up to the weather as well.

"This table, Lady," Garrick said and Diana knew he didn't want her to push him on the decision when he addressed her formally. She looked at the table he suggested and then nodded, knowing that its location gave him a good spot to see everyone passing by them. Diana took her seat and he sat next to her. While they waited, they each ordered iced tea and Diana looked around, impatiently searching for her friend.

Ura was familiar with Eastville's streets, with the flow of it's business and it's traffic. She knew each of the daily vendors by name and was getting to know the owners of the various establishments as well - even if they weren't places she would normally have shopped. These were expected connections for her to make as the Queen Ward of the Province Queen, whose Residence was just outside the city itself. She was in the last leg of her training when she'd suddenly transferred, so she had a lot of catching up to do in regards to getting to know her mentor's immediate peoples. Unlike what many might assume - this was not just her Court (though of course she'd made sure to meet as many of those individuals right away in the first few days of her residence at the Seat. No, Eastville was the capital city of Rockland Province - an important place for commerce and information - and there were countless reasons why Ura needed to pay attention to it considering her new apprenticeship. The least of these being that if she wanted to stay on track with her education and intended to start ruling sooner rather than later once her Offering came and went next year, she was going to need to impress Lady Ackley and prove to her that she was ready despite the older Queen not having borne witness to the majority of her training.

So Ura hadn't stopped at just 'getting to know the city' and familiarizing herself with the expected names, faces, and positions. She also got to know the faces of the urchins that darted here and there from alley to alley, or scattered when they noticed a Queen was in the crowd because they had been filtering through, picking pockets. She made it a point to strike up a conversation with the unassuming man who tended to hang around the fountain in the city square that was a little bit too quick with his hands when performing card tricks or bowing to the Ladies and their escorts as they passed by. She flashed sharp, knowing smirks at the bruisers that had no reason to be lurking outside the shadowed side-entrances of pubs and trinket shops as she made mental notes of their descriptions and apparent schedules - notes that she transferred into writing when she concluded her daily trips into the city by stopping at the same coffee shop every day and enjoying her favorite coffee with hazelnut before her return to the Seat and the rest of her duties and lessons.

It had only been a few weeks, but the city was getting to know her just as she was getting to know it, thanks to her constant presence - and despite her seemingly unassuming person, the crowd shifted and moved for her and her escort picked their way down the street toward a particular restaurant. At first glance, Ura didn't look like a Queen - she never did. Her hair and eyes were very normal shades of brown, her form was almost boyish in it's lack of curves - the only suppleness in her form that of muscle rather than the soft fat of breasts or hips. Her face wasn't unattractive, but it was decidedly plain - especially compared to the striking beauty of her mentor (or, as a matter of fact, the other young Queen she was meeting today). However, as people looked toward her and met her eyes, there was some instinct that always had them scurrying out of her way.

"Lady Mordoga, it's nice to see you again today." The restaurant manager was already out in the outdoor dining area, probably because he'd come out to greet another surprisingly important sort of guest (visiting Queens never escaped his notice). "Shall I get a table and a coffee ready for you?" Ura was impressed and rose a brow in approval - she'd only been here twice and he was already learning. Good man.

"No thank you, Lord Telly. I'm actually meeting a friend today, and I see her now." She nodded toward the lovely Queen seated with a familiar escort. Then, with a nod to the man, she made her way to the table.

A grin broke out across her face as she drew up close enough to address her friend without calling out across the other guests. "Damn Di, you keep getting more beautiful. Knock it off, will you." Her tone was teasing, and her own escort looked visibly surprised at the warmth being displayed by the young Queen he'd only known for a few weeks. In his experience, though she wasn't exactly cold, she wasn't really friendly either. This casual air was new for him.

Diana did not have long to wait before Ura and her escort appeared. Diana smiled, making sure they spotted the table and then waited for them to approach before standing to greet them.

“Ah, well,” Diana fluffed her hair, unable to keep from preening a little under Ura’s complement. She look care of her appearance, and she liked when others noticed. Of course, she wouldn’t have left without getting Garrick’s approval first. He’d always had an eye for fashion, which had matured into understated elegance.

“You’re looking good as well,” Diana said with a smile as she sat back down. She glanced over at Garrick who she caught looking Ura’s escort up and down. He glanced over at her and she raised an eyebrow before looking back to her friend. Before Diana could say anything, a waiter stopped at their table with Diana and Garrick’s drinks and to take drink orders from Ura and her escort as well.

“How have things been going here?” Diana asked after the waiter left. “I’m sure it’s been really busy planning for spring.” Diana was going to be taking a bigger role in some of the ceremonies and visits to villages, which she was excited about. Everything in Rockland appeared to have settled down, at least from what Diana could tell from the outside. She sometimes wondered if it was really the right decision to move to the Courtland Province Court. With the uncertainty in Rockland, it had seemed right at the time, but Courtland felt... strange to Diana. She couldn’t quite put her finger on why, though.

Ura flashed a grin that had a bit too many teeth visible, in a way that made some people unsettled without realizing why - like they were facing someone or something that saw them, somehow, as prey. Not that Ura saw her dear friend as such, but it was an easy expression for her to make - and one the other Queen would be familiar with, having known her as long as she had.

"I'm doing pretty well, actually," she offered as she, too sat down, he escort finding his own seat beside her - keeping himself between the young Queen and the majority of the other patrons, mindful as he was of his duty. She caught Garrick's observation of her escort and the look exchanged with his Queen and smirked, though she didn't comment. For his part, if her escort had seen the look he didn't say anything - and that was honestly probably for the best.

The waiter came by just about then anyway, so after Ura and her escort gave their drink orders she was content to move along with the flow of conversation. "I'm telling you, Di, you missed out moving to Courtland when you did. If you'd stayed to train under Lady Ackley I think you would have liked her." Another one of those sharp grins that on a normal Lady's face would have been something softer and sweeter, filled with light and mirth - and on Ura was something.. deadly and vaguely threatening. "There's been a ton of prep for spring, and Lady Ackley has me sitting in on the plans and going over the differences between different scales of preparation - you know, between what would be required of a city, district or province, that sort of thing."

Ura had written to tell her of her sudden change in courts - which was how they'd brought up setting up a time for them to meet up again. She hadn't given her friend the full details, though - just that there were some challenges with the Village Court she'd been training in and that Lady Odelle Ackley herself had come down to fetch her.

"So tell me, have you and Gare-bear over here been causing trouble. Please tell me the answer is yes." She shot her friend's stalwart companion a cheeky smirk.

“Ugh, I wish we were getting into trouble,” Diana said. She cut a glance over at Garrick who had opened his mouth and taken a breath like he was going to say something. Instead, he snapped his mouth closed, and then rolled his eyes as she smirked at him.

Truthfully, this court felt far different from the one Diana had been in previously. Marchesa was different. The rapport she had with her people was different. Diana couldn’t speak for Rockland’s current queen, but Marchesa was far different from the Lady Ackerly’s predecessor. The whole court felt incredibly serious, and it also felt like something was off, but Diana could not figure out what it was. It felt like there was some secret that she had yet to be let in on, but maybe that was just how this court operated. It was difficult to tell with her lack of experience.

“Everything is so serious at this court. But with my training so close to being done, I’m trying to stay out of trouble.” Diana didn’t want anything to mess up her chances. Granted, wearing the Birthright Opal already meant that places would want her to rule once she went for her Offering ceremony, but she still wanted to start out with a reputation for acting like a proper Queen.

“That sounds like a lot of great experience, though,” Diana said. “I’ve been getting to do some of the same work, along with the ceremonies, of course.” Those always agitated Garrick, which Diana understood to a point, but it was something Queens did every year, so he was just going to have to get used to it. “What’s Lady Ackley like?” Diana asked.

A little smirk quirked at the corner of her mouth as Diana confessed to trying to stay out of trouble in lieu of the end of her apprenticeship coming up. "Fair is fair," she said with a shrug. "Never underestimate the power of keeping a low profile, especially considering it's not something that'll come natural to you of all people." She wasn't actually referring to Diana's personality here - though in certain circumstances it was definitely applicable. No, Diana was an Opal Jeweled Queen yet to make her decent. It as possible that when she walked away from the altar after her Offering she might hold a Red, which would make her one of the darkest Queens in the Territory. There would be no such thing as a "low profile" for her then. Even if she only stepped away with a Green, she would still be a dark-Jeweled Queen with ties to a Province Court and that was nothing to sneeze at.

That and, well, just look at her (Ura certainly enjoyed doing so).

She, on the other hand, could play the quiet game far easier. Her Queen caste was nothing to sneeze at, sure, but when you were playing on a game board with a bunch of other darker, more affluent Queens and their bigger, flashier courts, she would be able to manipulate things in her favor to keep herself less than noticed if she put forth the right kind of effort.

Her smirk widened to a small grin and she sipped her water before answering her friend's question about the Queen she was currently learning from. "Oh she's fascinating. Has a bit of a complex about her age, which is hilarious, but I've been good and haven't set anyone up to poke her about it for my amusement." Yet. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed her escort glancing at her warily and she flashed a bit of fang in a smirk barely directed at him, though her focus and gaze was still fixed to her friend.

"I like that she isn't quite so... stuffy, you know? She understands and can play the political game just fine - which is good, and is why she's in the Seat she's got - but she can also speak plainly too." Ura shrugged. She appreciated it when someone can just tell you something without leading you around the river and over the woods first. "Good sense of humor. We get along well as people, which is always a plus when you're trying to learn from someone. I'm still figuring out all of the dynamics though. Courts are complicated." She wrinkled her nose at this and sighed. "Seriously Di, you could write a whole novel series about the various interpersonal intricacies happening up there. Is it the same in your world then?"

"I'm hoping to be noticed for good things, rather than trouble," Diana explained with a smile. She was no stranger to being up to no good, although that was something she liked to think she was starting to grow out of. She was generally all for harmless mischief, although she didn't really want to be associated with too much of that, either. She wanted to have a reputation for taking her role seriously for when she formed her first court. Diana thought that it would be important for gaining the respect of the males who would serve.

Diana smiled as Ura spoke of the Rockland Province Queen. Ura clearly liked her. The age bit was amusing, too.

"That's weird," Diana said with a quiet laugh, assuming that the complex was about being old. "I mean, it's not like she's that old, right?" Older than they were.

Other than the age part, that was the sort of Queen that Diana wanted to be: one who was approachable, but still clearly capable. It was a balance, and one that Diana hoped to be good at when she was ruling.

"Kind of," Diana said, then paused to think about how to explain this. It was more feelings than anything else. It made her wish that her family hadn't stopped training her to be a Black Widow so that she could try to find out more of what was going on. "It feels like there's some sort of secret at the court. I can't really figure out how to explain it because it's not like I have any real evidence that something's going on." She shrugged. "Every now and then it feels like one of the First Circle males is trying not to be seen, which is weird." There were also meetings that she was specifically kept out of, which on its own would be normal, but combined with the general odd feeling... Diana wanted to know what was going on.
