Appearance

Play By: Tatiana Maslany
Distinguishing Features: Though she never stood out in her home what distinguishing Izzy in Little Terreille isn’t her looks, it's her accent. Even though she’s been in Little Terreille close to two years she is thick with her Sceltic accent. Sometimes men and women stop her on the street just to hear her talk. Its very annoying.

Personality

Personality:

Lightest of her siblings, Isibeal was always the strongest willed, even worse than her brother Raymund. Middle of the children it was Izzy who would dare her brother as a girl to breath holding contests and only concede the moment her face hit the floor. The streak of stubborn pride served her well in her studies as a Guard, getting her up before dawn to train and only resting when she was ready.

Raised in a Clan that hated Black Widows, Izzy has a bit of the flexible gray morals that made Sheanes the enemy in Scelt’s almost Civil War. Though she is far less hateful than some of her former Clan mates she has adopted enough of a dangerous worldview that she’ll compromise good for what is needful. Though she is not the type to kill or maim for fun, she’d not lose sleep over killing a man to protect her friends or family.

Izzy, as she is known to her friends and companions, is known for her sharp wit and biting tongue. She is not afraid to bluntly tell the truth in the same way she is not intimidated to lip off to the burliest man on the training yard. Though she has known her share of defeats, Izzy is defined by her resilience, her ability to stand back up even if bruised and battered and fight on.

That stubborn resilience was perhaps the only thing that saved her after the deaths of her friends, her mother, her brother and her sister. Perhaps worse, her nephew’s Chalice was severely damaged in the Witchstorm. After the Sheane Massacre the only thing left of her family was her nephew, now an orphan with her. Isibeal had for the first hours after the realization her family was gone thought about giving in, about letting the despair define her. In the end she’d found the strength, the seed of not anger, but acceptance, in the face of loss. Her family would have wanted her to go on, and she had something important left to do.

Her nephew needed her.

Izzy still fights with that despair sometimes, especially when her nephew Duncan is lost to the dreams and nightmares. Having something to fight for though has given her purpose back to life. Leaving her home was no longer the hardest thing she’d ever done, it was devoting herself to the care of her nephew. At nights Isibeal sometimes wonders, if not for her nephew, if the darkness inside would truly swallow her whole.

Likes:
  • Swordplay practice. There is a mindlessness that she finds in the midst of forms and sweat. There is no hope, no nightmares, no clarity. No, left is only the movement of her body, the breath in her chest and the exertion of her limbs. The exhaustion that finds her afterwards is the cleanest tired she’s felt, and sometimes it helps keep the nightmares at bay. If she’s lucky.
  • Whiskey. It's the distilled taste of Scelt and homesickness intertwined. The burn reminds her she is alive and the gentle way it detaches her from the world gives her a measure of peace. If only it weren’t so damnably expensive. Cheap Little Terreilliean made whiskey just isn’t the same.
  • Physical release. Sometimes a fight is exactly the medicine she needs. Sometimes it's a man at the bar who isn’t too dirty or too rough. If they fight or fuck that is up to the moment. There is a lack of emotional attachment with any of her flings but it fills the need for companionship, at least for another few days.
Dislikes:
  • The Slums. Scelt was nothing like Little Terreille. Scelt had rolling hills, clans and roaming sheep herds. Goth was the city where the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. The slums stick to high heaven and the unwashed beggars disgust Izzy. If her work doesn’t take her to the slums Izzy is happy to avoid them in kind.
  • Feeling uneasy around Black Widows. Izzy doesn’t hate or fear Black Widows but the Sheane blood in strong in her and she knows the dangers of the Caste. Though she works for a Black Widow in Little Terreille, Izzy is very professional and uses Protocol to keep any of her misgivings to herself. The thought of letting a Black Widow into her nephew’s head makes her nervous but she’s desperate to try to do something to save the boy.
  • Her moontime. It puts her out of work for three days. Disrupts both her job and her meager social life (if you call drinking a social life). Though her moontimes are bearable, the lack of Craft and rest her body needs makes Izzy edgey and cagey. Her first days back to work are some of her most frantic in terms accomplishments. It’s as though after being out of action for three days she expects to make up the work back in another three days.
Fears:
  • The Darkness inside. Something is lurking deep within Isibeal, something that could be shaped into utter despair or utter rage. Though she does not wear one of the dangerous Castes she knows that even as a Witch, she is capable and dangerous member of the Blood. When the memories and nightmares become too strong Izzy is not afraid of overindulging in whiskey to calm her nerves for it tastes like home but lets her forget.
  • The Duncan, her nephew, can’t be fixed. Duncan hasn’t spoken since the Sheane Massacre, though he is able to move about in his own free will. It as though all the emotional and personality was stolen from the boy who used to be her nephew. Izzy loves the boy but she doesn’t know if she could care of a husk of a child like Duncan for the rest of her life. The fear that she isn’t a good person, that she is selfish and greedy, that lurks in the same breath as her fear for how long Duncan will be a broken child.
  • Dying Alone. Little Terreille has been hard on Izzy and she has realized just how alone she is. Everyone she knew and loved stayed in Scelt and now she is slaving away, saving money all for her nephew, a child who doesn’t speak. There is no one for her to confide in, to lay down the burdens of the day and be a simple woman. Alcohol is only so much of a balm for the true loneliness in her soul.
Craft Strengths:
  • Stealth Craft. Though she was never the Darkest of Jewels within the Guard, Izzy made certain to learn the sort of Craft that could keep her alive. Though she knew Shielding was imperative, Stealth Craft became something of a hobby for her. She’d walk around the barracks, dodging bodies and other Jeweled and Jeweless Blood in the hallways. Never the bulkiest or biggest of woman, using her Craft paired with the gentle touch of the White made certain that Izzy was talented in her stealth Craft.
  • Enchanted weaponry. To give herself a boost amidst her Jeweled counterparts Izzy worked to develop the skillset needed to make her weapons more potent. She can add an edge to her arrows and sword that create the effect of a Power Bolt of the same rank against a Shield. Though it is not more powerful it is more sustainable and allows her to focus on battle instead of throwing about power bolts.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Emotional Craft. Izzy is an emotive person but it doesn’t relate well to her Craft. It would be useful for diffusing situations but she is not is just not able to affect anyone with her Craft. It is as though it fizzles out and becomes almost background noise, no change perceptible in her targets. Izzy gave up long ago trying to master a Craft that didn’t wanted to be mastered, much to her annoyance.
  • Death Spells. Limited by power of her Jewels and interest, Izzy is not well versed in Death Spells. Though they are useful for laying traps she is the sort who wants to choose to main or kill, not allow a spell to make that choice for her. Life is precious and wanton death will serve no greater goal.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Reba Sheane Rose - Purple Dusk Witch. [Killed during the Sheane Massacre. Was a well known dressmaker in the Clan and often made formal tartans for much of the Court.]
Father: Innis Sheane Opal - Sapphire Warlord. [Died at sea when Isibeal was a teen. He was the First Mate of a ship that was thrown into the sea during a storm and never found.]
Siblings:
(older brother) Raymund Sheane Purple Dusk - Opal [Killed during the Sheane Massacre, 2 years old than Isibeal. Also served the Guard at Keep Sheane but was present for the Sheane Massacre.]
(younger sister) Carlyn Sheane Rose - Purple Dusk Hearth Witch. [Dead. 4 years younger than Isibeal. Was of the housekeeping staff at Keep Sheane and known for her pastries. Married to a Guard, Jamie, who was a friend of Izzy’s was also killed. Carlyn was 5 months pregnant when she died.]
(nephew) Duncan Sheane, Birthright Opal Warlord (Will Descend to Green). [Age 9. Carlyn son’s. He hasn’t spoken since the Sheane Massacre and though not Broken, Widows have told Isibeal that his chalice has been severely damaged.]

History:

Isibeal had loved the bow as a girl. She’d shoot deer, boar, rabbit, and pheasant for the family each week. A natural marksman she took that skill with her when she decided to join the Clan Guard as a teen. The Sheane Guard accepted her readily, her archery a boon. Training with the sword took her more effort to learn but she was devoted to the task. By the time she was seventeen she was an accomplished swordswoman as well as archer.

A year before her Offering her father was lost at sea. The family took the blow hard. Unable to stay in their family home with all the memories they moved to the Sheane Keep proper. Though Isibeal spent most of her time at the Keep already she missed the small village they had called home as well as the people within it.

After her nineteenth year she completed her Offering and finally claimed her position in the Sheane Guard. The ceremony, along with some of the others who’d completed their Offering the same year, had been one of her proudest moments. During the years that passed she was promoted to Lieutenant in the guard with the potential spoken of for her to climb higher.

The Sheane Massacre destroyed that all for her though.

She wasn’t there for the massacre of the Sheane Keep but Izzy was there to see the fall out. She was there to search through the bodies to find that of her mother, brother and sister. She found her nephew emotionally and psychically damaged. She was there to listen to the rage, to the heartbreak and watch the Clan nearly tear itself apart. She was there to hear the call to arms and find her heart too heavy to take up the sword or bow.

She was there to see her friends dead and broken, her family gone and everything she loved turned to death and ash. Life had lost it’s spark, and if not for Duncan her nephew, Isibeal would have been lost too. Her sister’s boy hadn’t been Broken, too young to even have Jewels, but he’d watched his mother die to save him. He stopped talking though, barely responded, became a shadow of the boy she’d know. Izzy hadn’t understood those first days that a Healer couldn’t truly fix the mind. It was one of the Priestesses who’d told her a Black Widow was needed.

Born and raised in Scelt, Izzy didn’t much love the caste of Black Widows but she’d never found a woman who made her hate the caste like some of her Clan did. Still she was smart enough to realize with the Sheane name it was unlikely she’d find any Widow willing to try to fix her nephew, regardless of his innocence. One long night, sleepless with a bottle of whiskey she’d spent working out a solution. The next morning she packed all she could carry, dressed her nephew and left Clan Sheane.

Izzy left Scelt by boat, booking passage to Little Terreille. She hadn’t cared which Territory, Dharo or Little Terreille, but there was a ship who was willing to let Izzy pay with work for part of the passage. Little Terreille had the service fair too so if she was desperate she could always try to hire her services to some Court in Kaeleer that wasn’t Scelt. At least that was her semblance of a plan.

Coming to Little Terreille was a shock for her though. They docked in Goth and Izzy spent through her small savings quickly for lodging and food. She was desperate in her search for work but she was just another refugee like those from Glacia. Her skills weren’t in high demand.

Frustrated, Izzy considered her options, realizing that if she couldn’t work for coin she’d have nothing to fix Duncan. If not for Kelda, a Sapphire Black Widow, it is very likely that Izzy would been forced to work for a Red Moon House for the coin she needed.

Kelda though had use of Izzy’s skills as well as offered lodging. Izzy had not freqently been around the type of drugs Kelda made but there were always a few in each Clan that sought out drugs to escape whatever plagued them. Izzy’s only true vice was whiskey and even that was no longer an option, not without the coin to pay for it. At first Kelda was willing to see if Izzy would work out, letting her stay in a tiny room while she boarded her nephew with a Jeweless Blood woman with six children herself. A few months into the arrangement though Izzy had worked herself hard and long hours to prove to Kelda she was trustworthy. Duncan

After those first long months in Little Terreille, Izzy had finally found her stride.

The drug business was profitable and though she saw the allure of the drugs, Izzy saw the side effects too. Her indulgences were cheap whiskey and a full belly, not Kelda’s specialties. Every gold and silver mark she can save she does desperate to afford the price Kelda quoted her a few months after she started. Izzy has been saving her money for over a year and hopes she may be close to affording the Mind Healing her nephew will need.

After that, perhaps it will be smooth sailing again. A girl can always hope, that is the truth.

Character in Play:

There was a cacophony of sobbing and heart-wrenching cries in the Courtyard. Isibeal had just returned from her post, abandoning her duty when the news had reached her. A companion who wore the Summer Sky and given her a ride, arriving nearly an hour before she’d have been able to solo.

It wasn’t a Sheane who’d arrived, but they’d born the counter sign to prove themselves a carrier. The Blood Woman had pulled a message from her satchel and handed it to the Warlord on duty. HIs ashen complexion as he read the letter made certain it was bad news. Izzy hadn’t realized how bad until he spoke though.

“Keep Sheane has been attacked, a Witchstorm was unleashed in the Courtyard.”

Izzy for a moment thought it was a joke. A Witchstorm was nearly unheard of. Of course they’d been seen from time to time in history but no one was reckless enough or stupid enough to summon one near a keep full of people. One of the other guards had scoffed and said the Warlord was crazy.

The signature though was that of the Second in Command at Keep Sheane. Whatever had happened, the Master of the Guard seemed to be no longer in charge. Once they realized it was no grand joke the post had been nearly deserted, men and women with family and loved ones at the Keep.

Izzy had followed in the watch of those who sought answers.

The blood, bodies and cries that greeted her were answer enough. Her Clan was decimated. She found her brother’s body first. Lifeless blue eyes staring past her, unable to see her. His Jewels were missing and she closed his eyes for the final time. No tears came though.

Her mother was the one she found next, inside the Keep but just as dead. No tears came then either. Her task was not done yet. She hadn’t found her baby sister.

She found Carlyn in her quarters, though Isibeal wished she hadn’t. Her sister had been pregnant but the scene was clear to Izzy -- her sister had sacrificed herself for her son. Duncan sat next to his mother, staring at the lifeless corpse of the woman who’d been Izzy’s sister. He was as silent as the grave, his eyes just staring at his mother. He’d cried at some point, the tracks of tears there, but he didn’t even acknowledge Izzy now.

For a moment she couldn’t move as despair and panic swarmed her. She couldn’t do it, couldn’t go to her sister and know that they were all gone. Strength and stubbornness won out as she crossed to her nephew. She knelt down and ran her fingers over his cheek, trying to get the boy to look at her.

“Duncan?” Asked Izzy, her voice soft and without the anguish she felt.

A moment’s flutter of awareness, a flicker of her nephew’s gaze, was all she saw. Silent the tears came as she pulled Duncan to her, feeling the emptiness in her sister. Gone was the vibrant Hearth Witch who’d looked up to Izzy like she was some hero. All that was left was another corpse.

In the face of her loss Izzy finally sobbed out her pain, her heartache. Between the sobs though she promised Duncan she’d keep him safe. Though the boy made no sound, she swore she felt him return the embrace. Somehow, she’d keep him safe.

<3 Etain.

Man, SS-G is pretty but I'm feeling a Lighter feel for this character (apparently her family had the JEWELS of the family).

May I please reduce this to White-Rose? TY.
