Appearance

Play By: Taraji P. Henson
Distinguishing Features: The face of business within certain places can be both rough and tumble, or full of class with a hint of darkness. As the Madame for Greyling's Muse, Lady Fairuz all but breathes high class meshed with just enough of an element that appears illegal, when it is assuredly not as Prince Breckinridge that employs her wouldn't have it any other way. Elegant silk and curves make up a woman that is partially long-lived, though born in the cosmopolitan city of Goth. Though half long-lived, there is a sense about her gained through a very hard life that makes Fairuz seem somewhat older even than her near-century.

Standing to a height of five foot seven, Lady Catullus is tall enough to see above a few of the heads that might surround her. With a mesh of her Pruulian background blended neatly with the Hayllian, her brown and gold eyes are hooks into the soul if one desires - for a price. Scents of irises and honey with a hint of the desert she was not born in are noted both within psychic scent and true.

But of course above all, the roundness of hips draws the eye most quickly.

Personality

Personality: Sharp tempered when she needs to be, mostly Fairuz is as swift to laugh as she is to complete a business deal with a much gain as possible for her and those that work for her employer. Luxury is adored; one could almost say that it is in the blood, as is a delight in dance - both proper and especially not. Born a witch in considerable wealth lost to absolute squalor with parents deceased, eventual deaths by way of being in the wrong place with the rise of the Gangs put the promising girl out on the street. Keenly, she knows the feeling of absolute, abject hunger, and that desperate place has granted an outlook on life that leaves Fairuz with a punishing drive.

Luck, not Mother Night, nor any prayers have been her shining hope and cleverness with the fingers that thankfully, she needn't generally use anymore. Having been a woman that has killed to eat, killed to keep from being violated, ferocious doesn't come quite to describing the well-banked wildness in her expression, having less to do with Craft or Caste and entirely to growing up on the edge of constant strife. Having learned Protocol later in her life, it seems more veneer than innate as much as the attempt is made to be otherwise. Lacking a real family entirely save for the very earliest formative years, the tendency for caution first and trust typically being for the birds, for the most part, people are a means to an end. That said, even the most cynical has to need to be appreciated, which is quick to cause Fairuz to preen.

Early life having been not completely horrific for Fairuz is the touch of sweetness that got her through all the roughness and abuse, making her able to see a light through the darkness that was better off destroyed. Paired with Prince Breckenridge having never broken his word, recently being raised to part-owner of Greyling's Muse, and being able to call the shots in her line of work leaves the cynical woman with a little more positivity than she otherwise might not have. While learning to care for men is less easy than for women, it is memories of the very good long-lived man that fathered Lady Catullus that keep her fighting. When asked about being involved in classy, legal prostitution, her response is: it is safe with rules, and money is honest. She believes in the power of coin where love is difficult to pinpoint.

Likes:
  • 1 Men with Money: 'I adore when they give me presents.' Clients with plenty of money to spend are her dearest love. It means that business remains moving with the precision that will keep her employed for perhaps decades to come. Fairuz is perfectly willing to convince a client to spend as much as possible in exchange for the best service, to keep them coming back.

  • 2 Pretty Things: Having grown up a hand to mouth, Lady Catullus is likely to see the beauty in almost anything, or anyone regardless of bloodline or appearance. Golden baubles, silk curtains, colourful gowns. Name it and chances are she's either tried to procure it or has at least three in a variety of hues.

  • 3 Efficiency: Well run business is the type that stays useful, so she finds it very handy to have a Prince around to smooth concerns over and ensure any contract with her name on it is both unbreakable without some gain on her end. People that are on time or early to appointments, attentive and do not squander time are her favoured.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Being Unguarded: Due to difficult past and being accustomed to unchecked brutality, Fairuz is typically prepared and ready to fight near at all times. It is a frustration to have that need to constantly shield from touch even though she craves it but immediately has to question why if given supposedly freely. Because what in the world is actually free? Given the change in her life where the ferocious vigilance isn't necessarily a constant factor in her life, it is still a different matter for Fairuz to let down her guard and trust someone, and allow herself to be taken in by warmth and tenderness.

Rather than feeling the rush of that moment, Fairuz tends to feel something between dread and uncertainty as she waits for the other shoe to drop - because there has to be one, all the time. This is what her past has taught, even though its only part of the picture of reality. Opening those walls around her inner self, that golden hint of an idealistic little girl that was once very treasured and loved is hard, and she hates just how much planning it takes, like disarming explosive craft. Fairuz despises that she feels the need to sleep with weapons nearby or to have a supposed friend give a potential lover a background check for her to breathe easy. Sometimes she wonders even with those closest friends, can she really afford to let anyone in? Having driven people away with that constant tension that borders almost on paranoia - it's much deeper than any minor regret.

  • 2 Willful Idiocy: It is one thing to be dim-witted. Some people just cannot help this fact. But others literally choose to be less than their potential or squander what they are blessed with. A deep irritant, those that are deliberately wasteful are enough to cause Fairuz to snarl, given that she would have killed - and has - to have a real family that cared about her. Those that are wasteful in matters of love are equally despised. Enough of a romantic, even at her age, Fairuz has never been in love, thus her ideals are very much based on what could be rather than the truth.

  • 3 Gangs of Goth: Ah, the gangs. Given that her life would have taken a less rough turn, that Lady Catullus might well have known her family - whomever they are - without so much open corruption in Goth, it stands to say with ease that she does not like them, and can barely countenance hearing of their doings, which range from recruiting children to the rough business of Goth to kidnapping. It was in fact, the kidnapping of one of the new Queen's youngest bonded that caused her to finally choose a side, despite the fact she had no intention of leaving Prince Breck's employ.

    Fears:
  • 1 Homelessness: Cold. Burning hunger to the edge of death. Lady Fairuz knows it intimately. Despite the passage of time, there is a piece of her that is still the little nine-year-old girl with beautiful brown and gold eyes that no one wanted. She remembers what it feels like to choose between stealing and eating from rubbish and trying to escape guards and all manner of rough turns just to get rid of the painful feeling of starvation and a lack of a home. Sleeping in alleyways, while watching toward the inside of beautiful windowpanes and wondering with wistfulness and anger what being akin to treated like a mythical Princess felt like. Sometimes, it remains hard for her to sleep at night.

  • 2 Very Dark Jewelled: It took years for her to become accustomed to Prince Breck's standing in the Abyss. The Darkest Jewelled she has known have all been terribly abusive. While the Madame might understand that it is the personality that decides such a thing, that does nothing for her fears, which are not controlled by logic at all but rather the tricks the mind plays. His having given her the finest chambers, paid for her to learn Hearth Witch Craft in full, as well as considerable lessons in manners and Protocol, have helped ease this fear borne from decades of mistreatment, but it has by no means erased the feeling entirely. Though Lady Fairuz does her best to hide it, her hands tend to shake, and for hours after such meetings, she will sit and hug herself for the fact of having no one in her life to tend to that need.

  • 3 Violence in Drug Trade: The drug trade. While neither technically illegal in some ways as well as violent in and of itself, Goth especially since the Purge and more lately has become a place near inhospitable for those that just want to make a living, be it the ordinary, or funds from hallucinogens and other products. The violence that is borne from people not wishing to share, or to be on the top, frightens her especially after the explosions that rocked Goth and obliterated the Court. She cannot imagine it being connected to rougher elements in Little Terreille, even though her employer tries to ensure otherwise, it truly makes the Lady Catullus angry to muse over out of protective instinct for her girls, and plenty of orphans that were like herself: with nothing.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Aural Shielding: Having spent her life needing to hide a variety of reasons, Fairuz is especially well practised in aural shielding. She is capable to the point of creating shields of a variety of sizes that coordinate with hiding the self, and are either two, or one way. In this way, Fairuz can hear what is potentially around her.
  • 2 Sight Shielding: Once having been a little of a pickpocket in her youth for survival, Fairuz is very skilled at hiding in plain sight entirely. Her shields are capable of considerable subtlety with very minimal use of Craft.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Seduction Craft: For reasons not entirely apparent, though learning was attempted due to her chosen profession out of necessity, Fairuz's Seduction Craft is very weak, at the level of her Birthright alone. Additionally, she is very susceptible to it as a result beyond the level of the Purple Dusk.
  • 2 Telekinetic Craft: Fairuz can only move small things with telekinetic craft, less than the weight of the average person. Smaller inanimate objects are much easier.

    Life Story

    Family:
    Mother: 'Unknown' Pruulian Immigrant.
Father: Tartarus Catullus, Hayllian, Warlord Prince. White to Rose. Deceased.
    Siblings: Yes, but unknown.

    History:

Born to a Hayllian Warlord Prince whom himself was born as well in Little Terreille and has since passed on, Fairuz only knew that her mother was Pruulian Blood, but nothing more than that. Her father named her 'Fairuz' in a tribute to the mother whom had born her and left her on his doorstep, a strange and terribly sad thing for a child, to be tossed away by her own mother. Being utterly cherished and adored by her father instead is perhaps the single saving grace having allowed Fairuz not to entirely despise men altogether, including a few bright romantic spots just before, and after her Offering and Virgin Night.

Tartarus Catullus raised Fairuz until he was killed in a duel when she was nine years old; she has warm memories of the very good man her father was before this, though knows none of his family beyond it having once been a powerful name in Hayll and that in her youth, she wanted for nothing. Due to the lack of family found after his death, her life shifted to an orphanage in Goth. Life was not easy, and terribly lonely for the girl, whom did not even speak right away. Among one of the more corrupt places for children, they were given the minimum of what was considered good for a child. By the time she received her Offering, Fairuz had already run off three times, and by the time she was ten, she never came back.

Hand to mouth on the streets of Goth is a difficult concept to consider, especially for a female child. It was only through sheer luck that she managed to avoid being swallowed into the sex trade until after she found a Priestess to see to arranging her Virgin Night and conducting her Offering, having scraped together the required coin for the Temple by way of stealing from her betters. Fairuz never felt sorrow for it but sneered instead. However, eventually, that attitude managed to get her in trouble and crossed with the wrong man.

Forced into prostitution by the progenitor of what would become the Hell Lords at age twenty five, and for thirty years she serviced whomever they pleased, though given her ease of learning and the funds she pulled in for the upper echelons of the organization, most of the clientele Fairuz was presented to was wealthy in origin. It was in between this time period that Fairuz was able to use much of her gains to begin training for Hearth Witch, very slowly.

Eventually escaping their direct hold some decades later, she moved from client to client for years in order to remain one step ahead of the rough and tumble gang, eventually being discovered by a young, idealistic Algernon Breckenridge a little before the Prince ended up falling in with the wrong crowd. Swearing to find her again once thrown into jail for low crimes of smuggling, laundering money, and some considerable debt to the City of Goth, when he was released after serving time he found her again after Fairuz had been sold to another wealthy client in a permanent sense. When she was to be sold at a shadow auction, just after opening business of Greyling's Muse, he pooled his resources and purchased her.

While it has been seven years since that day, Fairuz and the other ladies that were rescued from considerably difficult straights but wishing to put their talents to a place that had the feeling of a Red Moon House but was open to all genders, the Hearth Witch was finally both able to complete her tutelage in Hearth Witchery, but also bend herself to the rigid learning of the remains of what was needed to complete a reasonable extent of Protocol training. Grateful does not begin to cover how she feels having moved from the rough life to one of comfort. Why else does she stay to run the elegant club beneath Greyling's Muse? Money. Power, and having a friend crush a man's throat to save you without expecting a return.

    Show Us What You've Got

    Character in Play:

Business was tightly packed in the belowstairs of Greyling's Muse, apparent by the fact that even she was on serving tables tonight while the stage was occupied by three different girls on one side behind permanent shielding so that they could not be touched and only viewed, and three gentlemen on the other side of the stage. They cavorted and moved to the heavy pulse of the bass, teasing and offering what could have been the half imagined dreams of love and desire. Matters were good, tips were even better though Lady Fairuz, even as she snorted at being called a lady and was capable of blush when she did not hide it with Craft, gave all of hers to the lower staff.

In passing by one of the special tables for their higher class guests, a hand snared Fairuz's arm hard almost enough to bruise. Anger spiked as she turned; one of Prince Breck's first and primary rules, that had been created by her was no hands on unless paid, and nothing beyond the bounds of correct Protocol was permitted. Respect in his establishment was paramount, and that was why Fairuz stayed around, even after the insanity of the rearranging of the Territory Court to include him, no less. It frightened her to have anything to do with it, though one would never guess with the Hearth Witch's swagger. Given that he'd handed her half the keys to paradise was also, a warm plus. It marked as a lot more than an assistant to be used and tossed aside. As a result, Fairuz was angrier than she normally might have been. This fool put his hands on her in HER OWN FUCKING PLACE. Well, half. But still. Keeping a smile for the asshole wasn't easy, but she liked to keep customers; Warlord Princes were never an easy lot to deal with.

"Get off me. I will only say it one time. You do not put hands on unless you pay."

Brown and golden eyes flashed with annoyance, but she kept a smile on her face, even as she wanted to knock this Opal Jewelled male's teeth in with a right cross, but fighting someone at her own Jewel rank was a risk. She didn't care for risks that gave no gain. Not these days when there was a choice. A lazy, amused expression suffused a face that seemed as though it had no flaws, despite the malevolence Fairuz could practically feel. Dread roiled in her abdomen, despite the fact that she loved her job, shit like this occasionally came up. The past whispering against her spine like an old flame that smelled more like sour milk when you got his pants off. Gross.

"I suppose you don't recall I've already paid for you. More than once. I'd say that still applies."

"Get the hell out," she retorted, expression both furious and shocked, as she did not remember the face in front of her, save for the eyes. Those she remembered. "Even if I knew you, which I am going to say I sure as Mother Night's tits do not, I wouldn't have you if you offered me your entire estate." Liar liar ...

    "That so?"

One of the bruisers along the wall simply moved into place; the Opal Jewelled Prince turned about, finding himself seized by the back of the neck.

"This is not that kind of premises. Get rid of him."

Prince though the bouncer was, he wore the Green, and with reasonable ease relieved the Prince of his wallet and membership. Having noticed the exchange, the Bartender, a blonde, cool eyed Glacian man with Light Jewels, studied Fairuz in concern. Though she was his boss, that didn't really matter at the moment.

    "Everything all right?"

Head shaking intently, she smiled despite the anger and embarrassment felt. "Take point on the floor. I need a few. It's fine."

Once she retreated to her small, elegant office and the door closed behind her, Fairuz slid to the beautiful stone floor and sobbed, opal hued and glittery heels in a match to her evening gown sliding off her feet, the sound of her sadness shielded entirely.

Sometimes the past just had a way of not letting a girl forget, but Fairuz would get over it.

    Eventually.

Let me cater to you, baby this is your day ...
