Role: Third Circle
Faction: Territory Court

Appearance

Play By: Pedro Pascal
Distinguishing Features:
Tomas has a deep enjoyment of the affectation of many of Dhemlanese’s noble men, who apply prosthetic beards and mustaches as a style choice. His preferred are a fine strap of hair across his chin and jaw, and a fine-lined mustache.

Personality

Personality:
Tomas Julian de la Cruz is a deeply, deeply selfish man. He yearns for power and influence like flowers strive to reach for the sun. There is little he would not do to help himself pursue the power he wants to claim, and few he would not hurt along his way. The thoughts and feelings of others do not matter to him, though he is aware of them; he just only finds his own thoughts in this manner to be of value and import. Those responses of their own are only ever coddled or supported if it benefits him in any perceivable way; and in some cases, making people like and trust him is valuable all its own.

He is a man absent of what most would call the propensity for friendship or love; he loves only himself and trusts no one not to abuse trust, were he to have the mistaken and foolish confidence in them to give it. However, few know this clearly, as he is a skilled liar and chameleon, able to become exactly who people want, charming and smooth as he works through the world before him that he pursues like a hunter.

Tied clearly to his self-love and self-aggrandizement, is his vanity. He prides himself in all he does and is; his beauty, his artistry, his social skills. There is little he does not consider himself the very master of, and he is condescendingly assured of it all. The worst of all of these things is he is not oblivious of his limitations; he just strives to overcome all of his failings, and is genuinely good at most everything he strives to claim. It does not, however, make it any less borish that he finds it valuable to comment so approvingly of his own worth and grandeur, but the excessive wellspring of charm that blossoms from him frustratingly smothers a great deal of the annoyance.

Likes:
  • Politics. One of the few who perhaps absolutely loves the art of being not only a leader that is respected, but one who is tasked to wheel and deal. Nothing satisfies him more than twisting desires and dreams to force people into unenviable positions, and coming out on top. Even when he’s the one forced into compromises he can’t stand, he admires the gamesmanship taken to force him to such a position.
  • Fine Art. He has cultivated a sufficient skill at artistry of his own during the long span of his days, and deeply admires the work of others as well. Classical artistry of any sort appeals to him, though his focus will always be painted art, which is where his own skills lie.
  • Gossip. A skilled manipulator and politician, nothing appeals to him more than overhearing secrets, hearsay and heresy. Even when it involves people and issues that have no value to him, he is permanently addicted to the drama offered within it.
Dislikes:
  • Weak-willed people. While he adores twisting people until they break, and leveraging opportunities to position others into places they never wish to be, he prefers these victories to be hard fought. Those who just accept the role given them, who just obey thoughtlessly, because it’s easier than fighting, are to be pitied or despised.
  • Corazon. While bonded to this Queen of his, he only tolerates her. He perceives her as an empty-headed and all too common woman, who is best when led by her nose, since hers has no refined sense of its own. He detests the fact this is the woman he has bonded to, but accepts that her caste can ensure him the prestige he yearns to possess, when matched to his pedigree.
  • Tedium. All too common in the lives of the long-lived is when patience turns into repetition and laziness. While a patient man, he abhors the endless nothingness so common to so many of the Blood who, like him, mark their lives in centuries. He finds the tendency to complacency and emptiness of life to be all too, well, boring.
Fears:
  • Peaking - Tomas is ambitious, without a doubt. While he is not one of the ruling castes, he desires to go as high as he possibly can and harbor as much influence and power as he can muster. Not necessarily in a malicious fashion, but he merely has many ideas that he feel would be good for Dhemlan and it's hard to be heard when you're not around or on the top. While 3rd Circle at the Territory level is nothing to scoff at, he's concerned about becoming 'stuck' there.
  • Drowning - Tomas had an incident when he was a child and nearly drowned in his family's pool until his brother dragged him out. Ever since then he will rarely go into water, content to merely sit by the edges of pools and beaches. He had the aptitude to attend the Dhemlan Naval Academy but his fear of drowning prevented him from pursuing that path.
  • Becoming boring - At his age, he has tried a great many things, but he has thousands of years before him, should he play it right and true. This means that he has a great deal of potential for repetition and ennui, and he works hard to avoid becoming just yet another immortal, tiresome fixture on the landscape: he fears become irrelevant or tired or jaded with the world.
Craft Strengths:
  • Compulsion Craft - In matters both political and personal, Tomas likes winning and getting what he wants. Sadly, there are times when he is unable to do so based purely on his own charisma and charm. When that happens, a bit of fine Compulsion usually manages to turn things more in his favor. It's a sect of Craft finely honed by him over the many centuries of his life.
  • Communication Craft - Networking is critical to Tomas, and it is as much natural knack as practiced effort that he finds it absolutely effortless to deliver precise messages that evoke imagery and thought perfectly. He is even capable of communicating entirely through visualizations, with a bit of focus.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Stealth Craft - This weakness is perhaps a reflection of his own desire to aspire to be the center of every event and future, a yearning to be the ultimate shining star. But he has never been able to come close to commanding the skill of stealth through craft; attempts are far easier to tear through than even his birthright jewel might attempt to present. This is a frustrating weakness that he appreciates the irony of, as it does dramatically limit his potential capacity for overhearing useable secrets.
  • Shielding Craft - As much as he resents his difficulties at disappearing into shadows when he desires to do so, he is even more woefully aware of the shortcomings he possesses when it comes to his combat prowess. He would be entirely easily overcome by an aggressive decision to end him, and he strives to ensure he is the one who acts first, rather than his foe, when swords must be raised. This is a talent he has worked to overcome, and has never so managed.

Fiancée: Corazon Chavez; Queen; Rose - Opal

History:
Born to ascendant champions of Dhemlan, their Prince was destined for greatness. Not only the darkest of their children by Jewel, but of perhaps the caste most destined to pursue the heights of power. His second youngest sibling, Leandra, would eventually come to take on the auspice of Healer, a banner that would lead her to prominence as well, but their firstborn was special and gifted in a way that the rest barely could attest to coming close to catching. He was ambitious, hungry to conquer the world, and to master himself in the process, even as a child. This urge was pressed upon him well by his parents, who helped shape him into the social climber he was meant to be. His father, who shared his caste, gladly helped guide him towards his purpose, shaping him as best he could in his image. But his father Horacio was unaware of just how attentive Tomas truly was to his lessons, as he learned well the art of persuasion, and practiced it extensively upon his own family, to press them into providing him his desires, shaping them in how they would behave for his best interests, instead of their own.

The boy learned quickly how easily people could be plied when leveraged with affection and gift, and how well people trusted you when you confessed dear secrets, even when those secrets were lies. He excelled in all he placed himself to the task of, relentless in self-improvement, and growing ever more self-reliant while often appealing to people as if he depended upon them. This continued for much of his life, as he maneuvered himself well against a field of ancients that he knew he’d have to fight til the end to displace and see himself placed above them.

Blind ambition was all that he was, fruitless and frustrated, even as his brother and sisters grew and called upon him for aid he offered to appear loving and familial. He always aspired for more, a ‘more’ he could never quite reach, the echelon of power in immortal Dhemlan crowded by the dominating force of ancient and impressive powers that refused him entry into their places of influence they'd claimed long before he lived and thrived.

Then, Askavi claimed Rihland as its own, and set its eyes outward. It was a chance, at last. He prayed that the coming war would help cleanse many of them, but this did not go the way he wished; Dhemlan’s first venture in conflict saw fit to rebuff Askavi's efforts with minimal loss, fortunate that the Black Prince chose to remain in his mountains. A second never came. He rued this fact, that the Black Prince and Askavi chose to surrender their fight in Kaeleer, and not smear the grounds with the blood of his opponents and obstacles. He was all too willing to become collaborator, but his dreams were dashed.

But Dhemlan persevered. That was, until the greatest gift that he could ever be given transpired: The Purge.

Somehow, he escaped it unscathed, protected by a lover he had then who’s Gray shield shattered alongside both her jewels, and her mind twisted upon itself, as the storm drove her mad and shattered her to her soul. She resisted too strongly, and the Witchstorm left her an empty vegetable… one who kept him and her little sister safe. With company, he put on a good performance of sobbing in sorrow, but when he emerged to discover the entire world all but thrown on its head, his planning truly began. Already using connections that survived, he began to maneuver himself, but the courts proved unwieldy, as the vacuum was rushed by similarly attentive courtiers as himself. So he made a choice - to seek a Queen of dark enough jewel and weak enough temperament that he might be able to control them towards the throne itself. He would still have time, as alliances took centuries to cement.

It was by chance that he happened upon the commoner Queen who’s parents pushed her towards socializing outside of the school she attended, and he found the pull instantly. He had found his queen; a foolish, naive little idealist with passion in her heart and a tiresome optimism. She was simple, she was poor, and she was of poor stock, but he knew instantly she had him until her death. Unable, he knew by the bond, to do so himself, he resentfully set to a new task; manipulating connections into pointing her parents into finding a ‘lovely suitor’ in himself. He played the role through letter of dull, affectionate, and enthused for a match of love and potential. And upon their meeting, he performed expertly the dream of a man Bonded instantly to his Queen. But she was not yet ready, and he was forced to continue to court her, until she was near ready to leave her eternal studies at the University.

But his patience lasts only so long, and he strives forward now to claim what is his: Dhemlan. Through, reluctantly, this wide-eyed little hovel Queen.

Character in Play:
Raindrops fell upon the streets of Dhemlan as he strove towards the grounds outside Salamanca, his mind torn by the mutual facts of his confidence that this would be tired and droll and of the necessities that spoke to him of the potential before him. She was somewhere waiting for him now, even if she did not fully understand that fact as truth just yet. He heard the thundering certainty of each droplet as it crashed down upon him, though permanently incapable of finding their purchase. A small, contained shield was raised to deflect the presence of the rain. The ocean seemed to attract its rain, and his shield was tested sorely, his focus intense as he used that strain to distract himself from the future he was now tortured to see approach for him. She was a tiresome thing, and he abhorred boredom, but what this boring pauper who called herself Queen offered him was worth the bore of her affections, and wishing himself to stop worrying about what a life with her would be meant an odd appreciation for the difficulty he had in holding a shield about him.

But the manor approached, carving itself free of the wind and the water that seemed to him a sign that this was an ill omen and this bond was more curse than gift, and he sought to bind them together permanently. She might be a weight he feared enduring, but she would be his anchor and no one else’s. Too long had this day been pushed off, and he strove forward, refusing to heed the hesitancy in his heart and soul. Soon, the scent of blade-cut grass all but overwhelmed him, the raindrops swimming its odor to the sky, as he took stone steps to the Chavez estate that he knew would most likely house her. A message had been sent ahead, only a day prior, that he would be in the area, and hoped she would be as excited to receive him as he was to have her hand clasped in his again. Honeyed and droll, his letter had been crafted with little room for her to excuse it, and he wondered ironically if she was just as excited as he was: which was, more aptly, the absence of anything but dread and discontent.

His mask, however, was well crafted, and he focused himself upon the thoughts of what her hand in his might mean for the soul of Dhemlan, and he found excitement and hope rushing his bones. These he focused upon, so a cursory check of his emotions would reveal the very truth: that he yearned to see her by his side… though, he hoped, with him leading their entourage and her merely amongst his throng.

Surely, destined, his knuckles rapped upon the wood, before he grasped the knocker and set it forward twice, ushering himself into his own future. “Prince de la Cruz,” he called, upon the sound of approaching steps, and he guarded his heart as it both raced and dropped from the fine mix of the world finally changing and opening before him. His only question - was what was it opening to reveal?

Could I get five random family rolls?

Also, I'd love to get my name changed to Bowie in the profile. I don't see a way to do it?

He’s great and will be so fun! All approved here!
I hope you can get him reviewed in time for the bounty; I’ve had a rough month and the delay is entirely my fault !
