    Distinguishing Features: A manly beard.

    Personality

    Personality:
Tahvo is, at first glance, a reserved and quiet man. He rarely speaks but when he does it’s always forthright and pointed. Considered a simple man, he is a person who gives preference to action over words. Introspective and observant, he is quite astute and picks up on subtle personality quirks based on body language and inflection in tone. In that, he is the typical Warlord Prince: A predator who’s senses are razor-sharp and focused on any potential weakness to make use of. To assume that Tahvo is not dangerous simply because he is quiet would be a grave and fatal mistake. He is simply a violent creature that’s been domesticated. Trained, but still able to kill.

Deeply vested in the Dark Religion, he finds it as a source of his strength. In his youth he was a wild child, but having grown into his position as a Dark Jeweled Warlord Prince he has come to have great pride in who he is and what he represents. Being lucky enough to find his Queen shortly after his Offering, he’s known only the calm restraint that comes with being close to his anchor and leash. There’s few things that seem to provoke Tahvo out of this calm mask, but his disdain for the Light Jeweled shines sharply beneath. It’s something he’s never made any effort to hide. Much like the natural place for the Dark Jeweled on top, it’s just as universal, in Tahvo’s mind, that the Light Jeweled should be held in contempt.

While loving of his family, he yearns for one of his own. A source of great frustration for him is the marriage that his Queen has willingly placed herself in. It was difficult enough to step aside when his love loved another. But when Maarika decided to marry the man who murdered her love, it planted a deeply unhappy seed in Tahvo. He would like nothing more than to remove Jonothan Harmaa from the equation and to become his Queen’s Consort. He has no great ambitions outside of this, as to him the Darkness provides to its chosen children. Love and some romantic ending are Tahvo’s only great goals, and it’s no small annoyance that he can’t seem to make this future become actualized.

    Likes:
    • Maarika: By being in her presence he is able to calm the deep fire in his heart. Tahvo can make sense of the world while he’s near her and not have to worry about losing control of his temper. But more than the fact that she is his Queen, he deeply loves her. Not in the possessive and obsessive way of her husband, but in the way that is a true spirit of admiration and respect.

    • Piste: The graceful dance of a master craftsman, to attend a Piste concert is Tahvo’s favorite activity. He finds something deeply soothing in the complex dance.

    • Rituals of the Dark Religion: That which binds them together by faith and by common origin, the rituals put on by the Priestesshoood of Glacia deeply soothes him. He finds purpose and solidarity when he submits himself to the guidance of an experienced Priestess, able to surrender to the natural truth that is Mother Night’s blessing.
    Dislikes:
    • Breaks in Tradition: The old ways have endured for a reason. Those who wish to buckle the system or outright change it are too arrogant in Tahvo's opinion. Men are made to serve Women. The Light Jeweled are flawed and a reminder of the gravity and honor the Darkness has gifted the Dark Jeweled. Jeweless blood and Landens are the children of Mother Night to be protected and nothing more. Any other viewpoint is one of gross ignorance.

    • Jonothan Harmaa: The husband of his Queen is a vile man full of self-satisfied smugness and a crude sense of entitlement. In every way Harmaa should show proper deference to Tahvo at all times, but instead the lower-casted Warlord just seems to try to provoke him into an altercation whenever possible. The fact Maarika ever married such a man, even for political gain, bothers him greatly.

    • The Silent Civil War: Glacians should not kill Glacians. No matter what possible gain could be seen, they are Mother Night’s chosen children.
    Fears:
    • Losing his Place: Maarika has placed him at her side to not only protect her but see to her will within Tornio. It is a grand honor to be placed as the First Escort of a Province Queen. He fears doing something to displease Maarika, or Jonothan and her having some sort of miraculous reconciliation that would move him out of his position at her side.

    • Maarika never returning his love: For years Tahvo has held a torch for his Queen, though he’s not acted upon it (as doing so would be disrespectful, he feels). But he hopes that some day Maarika would come to see him for his worth and not only accept his affections, but return them as well. If she didn’t, he’s not sure what he’d do.

    • Having a Light Jeweled Child: Though the majority of his blood has held Dark Jewels, his youngest brother only descended to the Summer Sky, showing that the possibility exists that a child of his could have the weakness of spirit that would doom them as a second class citizen in Glacia. Tahvo does all that he can to adhere to the concepts of the Dark Religion to assure any children that would come from his loins are the best that they could be.
    Craft Strengths:
    • Shielding Others: One of the primary reasons for why Maarika has kept Tahvo close to her is that his his specialty in shielding others in his charge are stronger and harder than his jewel might suggest. Those in his charge rest easy knowing that it’d take someone sufficiently dark in the abyss to bring them harm as long as Tahvo is conscious.

    • Physical Enhancement: Tahvo is a direct sort of fighter. Tahvo smash.
    Craft Weaknesses:
    • Power Bolts: He has never liked the idea of fighting an opponent from afar. Better to get into their face and beat them into a pulp.

    • Inability to use Psychic Threads: A great failing and embarrassment, Tahvo was never able to reach outside of his own mind and latch onto psychic threads. He can only communicate with others verbally, which is a liability if he’s trying to communicate with Maarika in a crowded function or give her a warning of danger.
    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Brita Tahvo (Summer Sky to Green) Priestess
Father: Sven Tahvo (Purple Dusk to Opal) Prince
Siblings: Rasmine Tahvo (Blood Opal to Green) Priestess (Younger Sister)
Mikael Tahvo (Yellow to Summer Sky) Warlord (Younger Brother)

    History:
The Nillsons are a proud and wealthy family, having owned a number of milling and textile plants in northern Tornio for generations. Brita and Sven were a natural fit, Brita being the heiress of the family fortune and Sven being the first born son of a major publishing company. The two had always danced about each-other in the higher circles of Glacia’s society. They were dark jeweled, their family lines much the same, they were meant for each-other, naturally.

And just as naturally, the Nillson’s first son, Tahvo, was given the highest caste for a male of their family. Naturally he also had been gifted a Dark birthright jewel that guaranteed his place in Glacian Society. His younger sister, Rasmine, was equally fitting with the perfect image of Glacian ideals. A Priestess and gifted with the Blood Opal, both the Nillson children grew up wanting for naught between their tutors, the wealth of their parents, and later on their assignments. Tahvo counted a number of friends besides a fiery temperament and a somewhat selfish view of the world that was quite ego-centric. His caste, bloodlines, and jewels guranteed him success, naturally.

But nature seemed to not care about the pride of the Nillsons as their third child, Mikael, did not manifest the higher male Castes as a Warlord Prince or even a Prince, but was in fact just a Warlord. Worse, at the Birthright ceremony he walked away with the Yellow, and suddenly the validity for their arrogance was called into question. Certainly the failure lay in the child and not the rest of the family, Tahvo’s parents said, shifting the blame away from themselves to the youngest of their children. But despite their long standing position of respect, snickers were heard behind Tahvo’s back as he walked about (or so he thought), and his parents could not stand to have a mark against their person such as Mikael’s failure of spirit. They had come from too much good stock, were too pure, to be associated with such a disappointment. When Tahvo was fourteen they gave his younger brother to the Children of the Light, and he’s not seen him since that day.

At first the young Warlord Prince felt a violent anger towards his parents for such an action. Yes, Mikael was a failure, but he was theirs. Tahvo took Mikael’s presence as Mother Night’s way of teaching the Nillsons to learn to be humble and not take their gifts for granted. But his parents would have none of it, insisting they’d done nothing wrong and that Mikael would be happier amongst others “like him”. Tahvo found this as a cowardly act by his parents, a shifting of responsibility and blame when it should have been accepted as a constant reminder of just how fortunate their family was. His point of view was not welcome, however, and his commentary dismissed.

In his youth Tahvo was an excessively rambunctious and loud-mouthed boy. He played hard and fought harder against his peers to establish his place in the childhood pecking order. But after Mikael’s removal from his household he became almost eerily quiet; speaking only when he had to. His parents assumed it was some childish pouting, but the truth of it was much more dangerous, as Tahvo’s anger at his parents’ lack of true appreciation of their station felt like a heresy he should have punished. Not wanting to harm his parents, either physically or emotionally, he requested to be placed in another Court for training, and spent the last few of his formative years in the Court of Salo.

After his offering, with his position clear, his parents wrote him to tell him they’d arranged for a dual contract with both himself and his sister to the newest Queen of Tornio, a witch by many accounts was a rising star in Glacian politics. Returning home, he met Maarika for the first time just days before his twenty second birthday. Realizing immediately that he was hers, he swore himself to her service. In Maarika’s presence, he came to understand why it was that his anger and short-temper had for so long seemed impossible to control. It was if he were solving a puzzle with only half the pieces. He fell into love instantly, but unfortunately for him she loved a Sapphire Prince by the name of Arne and had for some years.

Bitter about losing an opportunity he never had, and yet also grateful to find some measure of peace while in her presence, Tahvo was for a time torn as to how he should act around his Queen. But whatever rivalry he had with Maarika’s chosen lover vanished when Jonothan Harmaa murdered the man for no apparent reason. While Tahvo grieved for the pain Maarika went through, he silently rejoiced for he believed he had finally gained an opportunity to be with the woman he desperately loved. Yet this, too, fell to ashes in his mouth as Maarika inexplicably married the murderer of her fiance, apparently motivated by political ideals to make good use of Jonothan’s connections and money to catapult herself to greater political acclaim.

That was three years ago. Since then he’s held some great satisfaction that his Queen seems to have no interest in her husband, arranging for him to be sent to Nharkava and then offering him to Elisif Brenden, Tahvo has been the constant guardian of his Queen since he accepted her contract with his sister, both becoming her First Escort and part of her Inner Triangle respectively. He has remained quiet about his feelings, not wishing to bring her any dishonor or put her in an awkward position, but it is obvious to everyone just how he feels about her. For all his silence, Tahvo’s nature lacks the deception necessary to disguise such a strong pull.

    Writing Sample:
They were taking his brother away.

Tahvo had never been overly fond of Mikael. He was too glib, too light-hearted for the serious-minded Warlord Prince. But still, despite that, he was only a child. Twelve years of age, barely more than a boy. He stood there on the porch of their home and watched through the falling flakes of Winter’s first snowfall as officials from the Children of the Light escorted Mikael to their wind carriage. At his eighteen years, Tahvo was confused by the feelings coursing through him: Relief, for the fact he’d no longer be associated with a light-jeweled brother, anger that his parents had done this without speaking to him first, and a twinge of sadness.

One did not choose their soul. Was Mikael’s weakness born to him? Was it the Darkness’s way of reminding the Nillsons that their gifts were not without cost?

His father placed a hand upon his shoulder as he watched them load Mikael into the back of his transportation. His eyes were sad, hurt, and angry, but most of all afraid. A boy of twelve, thrown out like so much garbage. He was light jeweled, but he was theirs. He deserved more than to be thrown out like some sack of garbage. “Come inside, Tahvo. It’s getting cold out.” His father intoned, but the Warlord Prince shrugged him off with a soft growl.

“It’s colder in there, then out here.” He said, but did not expound upon it. He ignored his father’s looks, and looked at his brother’s eyes. He would not chase them, or force them to stop. Mikael’s fate was outside of his hands. But he nonetheless would not allow himself to pretend it hadn’t happened. He’d not be like his parents who would henceforth pretend they had only two children.

He watched them take his brother away, and he knew it was true. The Darkness always has a Price.
