Play By: Abigail Spencer  (Will fix the avatar this week)
Distinguishing Features:
She has a small, slight frame standing just under five feet tall. She usually keeps her hair pushed back in a braid or a kerchief to do work, otherwise she wear it like a veil to hide her eyes. Her eyes are the honey brown of her long-lived heritage with a milky white haze to them. There are also small nubs on her back where wings would have been but they wouldn't be noticeable under her clothing.

Personality

Personality:
Quiet, soft spoken, and discreet, she believes in being seen and not heard like a whisper in the darkness. She doesn't like to draw attention to herself, her past experiences have caused a lot of self-doubt leaving her emotionally bruised. For those who put in the effort to get her to open up and trust them, they would find she has a wicked sense of humor, is highly intelligent, and very loyal.

Those who only get to know her on the surface still find she is someone who, if anything else, knows her way around the kitchen throwing herself into her work with such gusto they often forget she is blind. She is also kind hearted and considerate. She tends to have an intuitive grasp of when somoene is having a bad day offering in her own subtle way some comfort by leaving a plate of warm nut cakes by the door or making herself available for the simple companionship of having someone to talk to.

She often huffs at the males who see her blindness as a handicap. She hates it when they fuss, all it does is make her job harder. Her craft has become an innate part of her senses compensating for other senses. She prides herself on being able to do her job just as good if not better than someone who can see -- if the males took a moment to stop back and notice, they might be amazed at her skill.

While she prefers to mind her own business, that doesn't mean she isn't aware of all that is happening in the house. Her eyes might be impaired, but her hearing is acute. She has such an uncanny sense of what is going on, that she thinks of it as if the walls themselves are speaking to her.

Likes:

  • 1 Gardening... While she isn't a queen, she feels that maternal pull to nurture the land. To take it and make a little spot she can go to when she wants to be alone. Her kitchen herb garden is just that place.

  • 2 Her job... It might sound odd that scrubbing, cooking and dusting would be fun but Sharra LOVES her job. There's just something satisfying about getting her hands dirty and making a difference. Perhaps it is the Eryien in her and the house is her type of a battlefield, but she loves the simple joy of attacking and killing dust bunnies by the thousands. Plus, when no one is around, she loves to sing when she is working. Her voice is amazing!

  • 3 Love... She loves the concept of love. She is inwardly a hopeless romantic taking pleasure in imagining one day she will find someone who will love her unconditionally. It's why when she has sometime to herself, she might be found curled up in a nook "reading" some of the special books she had made for her. She likes to imagine she is the heroine in these novels.

    Dislikes:

  • 1 Being Coddled... She prefers to be treated like normal people. She doesn't see herself as handicapped. Males who fuss over her only frustrates her enough to disappear for a while and find some time to be by herself.

  • 2 Asking for Help... On the rare occasion when she gets turned around, lost or otherwise disoriented, she has a hard time asking for help. She is very proud, almost to a fault plus she doesn't like drawing attention to herself.

  • 3 Garlic... The smell of garlic puts her teeth on edge. It does a number on her senses, and as she counts on all of her senses to compensate for her sight, such pungent smells give her headaches and leave her disoriented.

     Fears:

  • 1 Being Discovered... It's what keeps her from opening up. She does her best to hide her heritage but knows someday someone will find out and judge her for it. The fear is even more potent when she considers that if it is someone she loves, she is sure she will lose him.

  • 2 Losing Her Job / Displeasing Isadora ... This is her worst fear and Isadora knows it. The estate grounds is the only place she has even known if she was forced to leave, she would have no where to go.

  • 3 Horses... Her cousin tried to take her riding once and the experience terrified her. She thinks they are large, unpredictable creatures and she has an almost irrational fear that one day one of them will trample her.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Sensing Craft... She uses this sort of as a sixth sense. Its hard for her to explain to others how strong a connection her other sense have with her craft the best description she has is being able to "see" with her fingers. Using the craft in conjunction with sense of touch and hearing, she can "see" with the vibrations.

  • 2 Conserving her Jewel Strength... Having lighter jewels she needs to conserve the strength of her jewels so she can "see" and do her job efficiently. It was one of the tricks that Marcella taught her.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Travel Craft... Its something she has never had any desire to try. She is sure that is a guaranteed way to get lost beyond reason. She is happy to read about distant places she will never see.

  • 2 Combat Spells... She has an aversion to such magics as death spells. She depends more on subterfuge than fighting. If she needed to stick a knife between someone's ribs, she sees that as a better mode of dealing with a foe.

    Life Story

    Family:
    Uncle: Paulo Santino // Prince // 1446 years old / 1257 BP // Rose - Summer Sky
Aunt: Anita Santino // Black Widow - Healer // 1257 years old // Summer Sky - Opal (Deceased)
Cousin: Trevo Santino // Warlord Prince // 342 years old / 153 BP // Opal - Red (Probably Broken Decent or Dead -- hasn't seen him since before the Purge)
Mother: Lucretta Visenya // witch // 1198 years old // Yellow - Rose (Deceased)
    Father: Unknown (Eryien)

    History:
Sharra grew up during the middle of the Eryien occupation. Her mother left her with her aunt and uncle to be raised. Anita told Sharra once that her sister, Sharra's mother, had come to them sick, starved, and out of her mind. Aunt Anita had tried her best to heal Lucretta's mind and body but despite her best efforts, Sharra's mother died. Lucretta had not said much as to the name or whereabouts of Sharra's father but in the rare moments when she rambled with fever, she had mentioned the pairing had not been consentual and that the child's father was Eryien.

At first, her aunt and uncle wanted to discount her proclamation as just another of her raving fits until they noticed the tiny nubs on Sharra's back. Paulo was adamant that they should send her away. He felt keeping her and raising her was, among other things, political suicide. He was a member of Parliament while Anita was a member of the Province Court in Atholi. Anita, still grieving for the death of her sister, refused to turn away her only niece. She begged Paulo to reconsider and after much discussion, he relented only on the condition that they kept her heritage a secret to which Sharra's aunt promised (it was a good thing that Anita had a knack for adjusting memories).

As she grew older, Trevo thought of Sharra as his little sister and became like a protective older brother. While Trevo knew the truth about Sharra's heritage, it didn't bother him like it did his father who did his best to keep Sharra out of sight even going as far as to make her Birthright Ceremony a discreet affair. Sharra was proud of the Yellow and thought her mother would have been proud of the jewels she had received.

A few days later, Trevo left for the Academy and while Sharra was happy for him, she missed having him around all the time. She took to hanging out in the kitchens, chatting with the staff and even speaking with a few of the younger Eyriens. She couldn’t help being curious about the side of her heritage that her uncle thought was so taboo and found a young Warlord among them named Yalavar who was nice. The cook was quick to put her to work and the days between spending time with Trevo or talking with Yalavar, she was in the kitchen or helping with the housekeeping chores. She found the work oddly satisfying and looked forward to what sort of recipes she would learn next.

One hot summer day when Sharra was fourteen, Trevo snuck Sharra out to the local watering hole for a few hours of fun and to cool off. They had a wonderful time, but the bathing suit Sharra wore revealed too much skin -- and the nubs as well. A few of the other boys nearby started jeering and calling her names and throwing rocks. Trevo did his best to protect her but one rock hit her hard up side the head. Trevo carried her home as quickly as he could for his mother to look her over. Sharra's head was bleeding badly but the wound looked mostly superficial. It was only when Sharra woke up that they realized the real damage that had been done: Sharra was blind.

Aunt Anita did her best to restore Sharra's vision. After much time and effort, Sharra's vision improved enough that she could see shapes and shadows but not enough so that she would ever see normally again. Sharra retreated, feeling dejected, hopeless and sorry for herself. She saw her affliction as something she would never overcome. She refused to spend time outside of her room when Trevo did his best to coax her out to be with him. Yalavar had tried a few times to see her when he had heard she had been hurt but she didn’t want to be with him either.  Her Aunt, concerned for her niece’s wellbeing, introduced Sharra to a friend of hers.  Marcella was a Craft tutor, one who specialized in those who had handicaps or war injuries.

Marcella was used to usually helping those caught in the fighting and had suffered serious injuries (such as lost limbs) learn to compensate for their losses. She found the idea of helping Sharra learn to "see" again to be a wonderful challenge. They spent the next few years together in intensive study. Sharra grew more confident in her abilities to move about independently, even going as far as to taking up her household duties and continuing to train in the kitchen. Trevo still liked to try and fuss over her when they found time to be together but she would snarl enough until he relented walking with her in companionable silence. She also returned to spending time with Yalavar while Trevo was at school. The first time he had noticed her eyes, Yalavar had appeared genuinely curious and concerned. Sharra picked up on the subtle changes in the tone of his voice as she explained her aunt had healed her, but couldn’t understand the hard, defensive edges in his tone before he changed the topic and they continued on as if there was nothing for her to be concerned about.

Months later, while Trevo had returned to the Academy, an altercation broke out between a few of the Eryiens in the court and Aunt Anita. As a Black Widow, they had left her alone. Sharra heard the whole thing and it hurt her deep, feeling the betrayal of someone who had become a friend, to hear Yalavar to be the one to accuse her aunt of colluding with the resistance as one of their healers. There had been rumors that the Eyriens had been targeting non-Eyrien healers as suspect for aiding the resistance. Sharra was shocked to hear there had been truth to those rumors when the Eyriens killed her aunt. Her Uncle Paulo was quick to accuse Sharra for Anita’s death, something to which she could not deny feeling the guilt of her ignorance. Trevo, who had always been on her side, took the news hard, and turned against her. The hatred for Eyriens burned in his heart. He took his revenge on Yalavar and the other Eyriens who had caused his mother’s death but when it came to Sharra, he couldn’t bring himself to kill her as well. Their long friendship was the only thing that kept him from killing her but he said he would never forgive her. He fled to Sarque and has never been heard from since.

No one wanted anything to do with her and she was certain that she would be asked to leave the estate as, in the wake of her aunt’s death, her position there was tenuous. If it hadn’t been for the cook, who vouched for her, she would have had nowhere else to turn. Sharra took up a permanent position as part of the estate's staff working her way up through the ranks until she was the cook's assistant. When the purge hit, it killed many including many of the darker jeweled staff and the cook. Sharra took up the vacant position for head cook and housekeeper, remaining there when the court changed hands and Isadora assumed power.

    Character in Play:
The morning sun's warmth felt wonderful on her skin as she worked through a few of the katas Trevo had taught her. So focused was she that Sharra almost didn't hear her cousin approach. She caught the familiar psychic scent as he walked closer, pausing to watch her transition through the forms from Snarling Male to Patient Queen. The names where ones they had made up to make remembering them easier and the names stuck.

"Your hands need to be higher, Sharr." Trevo suggested.

"Like this?" She said, adjusting her stance.

"Better. If you are almost done, want to come with me and try something new?" Trevo asked.

"Sounds good to me. What did you have in mind?" Sharra asked.

The question rang in her head as she clung tightly to Trevo's back as they raced across the countryside on the back of a spirited steed. What was I thinking? Sharra thought over and over again. She would have enjoyed the wind in her face and the feeling like they were flying if she hadn't bee so terrified for her life. She squeezed him around the midsection until her fingers were white. It left her feeling disoriented and lacking sight it lost much of its appeal. She didn't want to disappoint her cousin so she chuckled nervously when he laughed as they flew over a jump.

The laughter died when they landed on the other side and she lost her grip. She landed on the ground hard with a loud thump. When they returned home, walking slowly as Sharra refused to get back on the horse, Aunt Anita's wrath fell squarely on Trevo's shoulders and didn't let up for several days. Her aunt said she was lucky he didn't get more from her and would have if Sharra had done more than bruised a few ribs.
