Distinguishing Features:

Violeta is ordinarily a fairly relaxed woman who makes it her business to be on top of any matter she’s responsible for or might be called to produce information on, as any good Aristo scion should be. She knows when to take things seriously and when to lighten things up. She’s also been carefully trained into the sort of deferential diplomacy necessary to deal with upset or disgruntled people who might not be in the mood to be placated (yet who unfortunately aren’t worth putting a contract out on their heads. Pity.).

But her family isn’t all she is. She’s learned that a bit of humor can go a long way to ease tensions, with perhaps a discreet use of Craft if someone gets too aggressive with her. While she’s not the first one to start trouble, he does have a history of being the one who goes ‘I bet it would go faster if we did this,’ or ‘here’s how we can do that and not get caught.’ She’s got the curiosity of a cat and a sense of adventure, and attracts people who will let her indulge her love of both.

She’s a middle child by birth who grew up without the heavy burden of being her family’s heir nor with all the attention of being the baby of the family. So long was she did a reasonable job of staying out of trouble, she was generally left to her devices and fancies- so she’s gotten good at judging where that line is… with some margin for error. She’s careful not to push her luck, though, and catch the attention of a Court or a rival Family in a situation where she couldn’t justify herself.

Her recent experiences have taught her something of her own mortality, and have decidedly rearranged her worldview. Before, she was one of many. Now, she’s the only one left to remember her kin and carry their legacy forward. It’s been a sobering realizing that will either break the young Priestess- or be the making of her.

  • Rookwood’s potential- It’s a charming little village with the potential to be a lot more. In a time of death, Rookwood is an opportunity to be a part of something good and watch it grow into something more. Violeta really needs that promise of something better if she’s willing to put her blood, sweat and tears into it.
  • Dressing up- She’s hardly a cutting-edge fashion plate, but there’s just something about digging out one’s silks and heels that give a girl a little extra confidence in her stride. It’s a statement that Violeta likes making to the world. It’s also a way to connect with her dead mother- Tatiana helped her choose and buy most of her first grown-up clothes, and learn to do her make-up just right. The ritual is painful now, but oddly soothing as well.
  • Beau- That noisy barnyard animal was technically the first friend she made in Rookwood and hung around when she needed someone the most. Violeta has a soft spot for Oryon’s grumpy porcine shadow and keeps a stash of pig-treats in her psychic cabinet for any time she thinks she can sneak her buddy a well-earned snack.
  • Being alone- Whether it’s being the life of the party or just sitting quietly with a few friends, Violeta needs people around her. She grew up in a big family and has a Priestess’ need for spiritual connection.
  • Mornings- Violeta can work all night long, but she’s never gotten the hang of rising quickly or easily. If you absolutely must approach her within the first two hours after getting up, make sure you bring an appropriate bribe- for your own health.
  • Physical activity- Not walks to keep fit or anything, but hunting, fishing, heaving heavy objects around and rolling about in the mud. That shit’s for males who need to wear off their energy enough to keep out of trouble- she’s more of a visionary/supervisory sort.
  • Going home- She’s been to Bidea since the Decimation to meet with her family’s business agents, settle financial arrangements and have her family’s bodies properly taken care of, but she hasn’t actually set foot in the family home since she left it. She’s too afraid to face the feelings of pain and fear she has about it now, or how empty it will feel without them.
  • Failing to live up to her family’s legacy- She’s the only one left to remember them now. She’s deeply afraid of disappearing to the backwater of Rookwood and achieving nothing, leaving the Lahovary name to die with her in ignominy.
  • Natural enclosed spaces- Violeta is a bit claustrophobic, but only with natural caves and such… though some peasant’s rickety wood shack might invoke the reaction too. She heard stories of cave-in’s at some point in her life that really got to her, and Nature, unlike proper society, doesn’t have any building safety codes.
Craft Strengths:
  • Communication Craft- With a born Priestess’ highly honed sense for the connections that Craft can forge, Violeta has a talent for being able to maintain multiple threads at once, and with greater range than her Jewels should allow her to reach. Her distaff threads (though not those with the speared gender) generally have a higher degree of confidentiality as well.
  • Psychic scents- Between her innate people sense and her training in social cues, Violeta can glean finer details about how someone is feeling than might other Blood. It’s become one of her go-to’s as a Priestess, where sometimes simply sitting in silence can give a supplicant the time and space to share their woes instead of being verbally hounded. She can also manipulate her own psychic scent with a higher degree of accuracy to give the scents she wants it to have.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Witchfire- Violet’s okay with witchlight, but control of witchfire continually eludes her no matter how she tries to practice it- the flame roars up almost instantly. It’s not recommended she be asked to light anything smaller than a bonfire.
  • Sight Shielding- Invisibility is a non-starter for this Priestess, if she’s lucky. If not, she gets to walk around for a few hours with just a head, a leg, and a couple of fingers or some such visible until she manages to reverse the attempt.
Life Story

Mother: Tatiana Lahovary, Yellow-Rose witch, d.
Father: Teodor Lahovary, Tiger Eye-Summer Sky warlord, d.
Stefan Lahovary, Blood Opal-Red warlord, d.
Irina Lahovary, Rose witch, d.
Ecaterina Lahovary, blood female, d.
Dinu Lahovary, Yellow warlord, d.

Violeta was born the second child and eldest daughter of the Lahovary family in Bidea. They were a fairly neutral Aristo family, more concerned with handling business and making money than political waves. Her parents always taught that individual glory in society was less important than the survival of the family, because family were the only ones you could really trust. Violeta’s childhood was a process of figuring out her place in the family and how she could pay them back for all their love and care, particularly after her Birthright when lessons in etiquette, Craft and Protocol became required. They might have Aristo money, but already Violeta and her siblings had been taught that nothing comes for free.

She was so proud when she finally came of age, emerging to present her Offering Jewel to her proud family. Her older brother ruffled her hair, her younger siblings exclaimed with awe and pouted with jealously, her parents beamed. They threw a party in celebration the next night, as they had for Stefan- aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends, all were invited. The party lasted through the night, just starting to break up at dawn.

The storm roaring up out of the Abyss took all of them by surprise, sleepy and drunk with both happiness and alcohol. Her last memory of that night was Stefan reaching her side, his Red wrapping around her. Then nothing, until waking hours later to find the family home still filled with bodies and shattered Jewels… and what had been Stefan screaming mindlessly nearby, tearing heedlessly at his face and eyes in his animal pain. Sobbing, Violeta put her Broken brother out of his misery. The young Priestess dried her eyes, fished out the emergency packet of money and gems her father kept in his study for in case the tides of business turned against the family fortunes, and headed out the door. Destination: anywhere the Winds took her.

She drifted through the territory for a few weeks after that. She had nowhere in particular to go, just knew that she couldn’t stay in that house of death and disaster where she’d be reminded every day of what she’d lost. About a month into the more-than-three-day-bender she’d set out on, Violeta found herself in a barely-there village, drunkenly chatting up what turned out to be the Queen’s pet pig. She wasn’t sure what made Ory let her stay, but what could have been a disastrous first meeting somehow turned into a job offer. And now she has to be the best Court Priestess a growing village could ever have.

Character in Play:

It was getting dark, she had no idea where in the Mother’s name she was, and she’d left her last drinking buddies behind at that shithole pub two or three towns ago. This might have bothered a more sensible person, but Violeta Lahovary had had something of a bad month and found the most distressing part of that was ‘no more drinking buddies’. It didn’t much matter where she was anymore- she was foot-loose and fancy free, with nothing to hold her. No one to care.

But that was alright. She had her Jewels (shiny lumps of rock, made nausea rise up at the memory of so many scattered like crushed ice on the ground), she knew her Craft, and a lot of places would welcome a Priestess once she got her head together again. If she did. But yes, she would, wouldn’t disgrace what was left of the family pride and memory by burning out that way. She just had to hang on long enough for time to do that ‘healing all wounds’ shit it was rumored to be capable of, and find enough company to keep from howling her grief to the moon in despair in the meantime.

Bit hard to do that in this dirt-poor village in the middle of nowhere where everyone knew everyone and a stranger stood out like a sore thumb, but she’d managed. Even if her current companion wasn’t human. Maybe her luck was changing- she hadn’t been looking for anyone when she’d left the inn in search of privacy with the bottle of something-alcoholic that she’d clutched, but when she’d looked up from that mud puddle she’d tripped over and there he was. Her cute little red-and-white conversationalist.
‘Y’know… y’r a nice lil’- mammal thing.” Such were the turnings of Violeta’s mind that she could remember the word ‘mammal’ while drunk, but not ‘pig’. “Stefan had one too. Not like you, black and white. And furr… more hairy.” It had also been a dog, but it was all the same to her right now. “It followed him ev’rywhere, an’ listened to him, an’, an’…” She felt the sob rising in her throat and swallowed it back harshly.

“And I miss him. I miss them all.” She whispered hoarsely, putting her face in her hands. “I want my family back, mammal-thing…” The Priestess confided to her porcine audience when it came over to investigate what the strange human was doing now, throwing her arms around it and beginning to cry into its warm side.

Weighed by Mother Night...

You've risen from the Darkness twice blessed with an uncut Tiger Eye Birthright Jewel, and were gifted with a cut Purple Dusk Jewel at your Offering.
