Distinguishing Features:

Personality

Personality:

Saachi was born with all the relentless drive and ferocious spirit her placid older sister Veda lacks. She has very definite ideas of how the world should be and carries all the stubborn temper of her Eyrien ancestors when the world fails to arrange itself to her standards. Much of her tolerance and softness is reserved for her special few.

Saachi is a woman with a vast amount of anger –at the Darkness, at the world, at herself- within her, tightly constrained by centuries of Protocol and discipline. It sharpens her edges and is the fuel for just about everything she says and does. Its ember still glows even when in a relatively calm mood, and can be flared again as needed.

Fire is safest with a use, a purpose, and so is Saachi. She is a creature of duty and will seek one out if none are provided to her. She doesn’t relinquish her responsibilities easily, either. She broker herself once defending her Court and would do it again in defense of her people- including the now-grown baby brother with a life of his own.

Saachi has the patience of her winged ancestors’ mountains when required to use such tactics. But once triggered, her temper is as inexorable as a rockslide and can bury you just as deeply. She has a correspondingly inflexible note in her personality.

At the end of the day, Saachi is a proud and tired woman who hopes to go out with her head held high- and longs to recover a little of the spice her people are known for.

Likes:
  • Chakram- Saachi is skilled with the wielding of this circular blade. She likes the practice as a way of reassuring herself that she can still be dangerous. It is also a traditional weapon of her people and she enjoys keeping the art from dying out in the face of Glacian occupation.
  • People’s perceptions of the Broken- She may hate their pity, but there’s no denying most Jeweled Blood cannot face the Broken without some degree of sadness or repulsion. Both are highly useful levers for Saachi to work on occasion.
  • Bees- Saachi has always kept an apiary and values the creatures as a highly useful part of the ecosystem. Back when she had her Jewels, she could direct the bees as their own Queen would; even without them, they still cluster around her and she can work with them in complete safety.
Dislikes:
  • Pity for being Broken- She may not be above using the sympathy, but hates being pitied. She’s still a Queen, damnit, and still here when the Purge killed so many others.
  • Losing her connection with her people and land- She still has a Queen’s instincts, but less ability to fulfill them. She can shed blood, but not sense the land’s bounty as she should; can hold leashes and calm tempers, but not draw males’ attention like flowers to the noonday sun. It’s infuriating, and drives her to seek other ways to fulfill her caste’s demands upon her.
  • Subjectivity- Saachi hates gray areas and moral relativities that can be open to interpretation, because that’s how people manipulate the truth around to suit their own agendas. She deals in the real and now, preferring tangible objects and solid facts.
Fears:
  • Failure (Again)- Saachi tried her hardest, but she couldn’t protect her people against Witch’s rage, or Nharkava against its aftermath. Part of her tendency to fight and her dedication to duty is based in this guilt and her need to seek atonement for it. She cannot fail again.
  • Dying without honor- Here, her Eyrien side flares up again. Saachi can accept the risk of death- it is dying in ignominy that she fears, without purpose, battle-honors, or anyone to sing of her deeds to future generations.
  • Getting lost in the past- Saachi has had extensive mindhealing and recovered well from the trauma of her Breaking, but, on occasion, is prone to succumbing to the pitfalls of memory. An average reminiscence about her old Court or first love can lead to her eyes clouding over and being lost in the fog of memory for hours until it passes or someone can manage to rouse her from it (though her worst spell once lasted three days). She is very confused about exactly when and where she is during these time, and fears triggering an episode as much as she longs to talk about those she’s loved and lost. She’s nearly the last one left to remember them.
Craft Strengths:
  • Power Management- Saachi will never again be capable of the sort of psychic strength her Jewels gave her, but in the century since her healing she has learned to make the most of what she has left. Saachi is capable of greater efficiency with her remaining power than most Jewelless Blood.
  • Emotional Projection- Saachi is such a strong personality that she finds it relatively easy to project that personality to others- and having a Queen’s sense of how to influence and be influenced by others doesn’t hurt. She can keep an audience’s attention with little more than an intense look and a few calm words, and is good at projecting enough confidence to get those who might otherwise doubt the worthiness of a course of action to give it a try.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Communication Craft- Saachi is incapable of even receiving psychic threads and must work verbally through an assistant or escort for such things. She blames the Purge for the problem: between the wound to her Self and the trauma of so many lost Queen Bonds, is it any wonder she can’t bring herself to open up even this much?
  • Telekinesis- No Purge-related trauma here. Saachi was just always shit at this skill and time hasn’t improved her efforts. She might be able to call a pencil across the room to herself, but she’d be as likely as not to poke her eye out with it in the process.

    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Anavi Parekh, Tiger Eye - Summer Sky Healer, b. 990 BP
Father: Vishal Chanturvedi, Rose - Summer Sky Prince, b. 140 AP
    Siblings:

    Veda Chanturvedi, Yellow-Rose Priestess, b. 219 BP
Ganaraj Parekh, Opal-Red Warlord Prince, b. 161 AP
    Naima Parekh, Sapphire-Gray Priestess, b. 165 AP
Chinar Parekh, Descent White Warlord, b. 172 AP
Dhanya Parekh, Tiger Eye (-Summer Sky) Healer, b. 185 AP

    History:

Saachi refuses point blank to talk about her life prior to the Purge. That Queen is dead and she’s had long enough to dwell on the mistakes that led to her demise. The world she was born into is gone forever. As far as she is concerned, her story starts with Witch’s Purge.

Always a fighter, the Purge was no exception. Saachi threw her Jewels at the wave of power exploding from the Abyss in an attempt to protect her Court and was mercilessly shattered for her trouble. Her mother found and patched up the Queen’s broken shell, hunted relentlessly for someone who could salvage her mind and that of her partially-Broken sister. It took some time to find someone in the chaos that consumed Nharkava, but even a Broken Queen was now rare enough to merit the effort of saving.

Saachi resisted the process. Her Jewels were gone, her Court and males were gone- what had she to leave the Twisted Kingdom for? Here, at least, she still had access to enough Craft to nourish the land. A succession of Black Widows kept her within screaming distance of sanity, but true healing only came when her mother’s relentless searching lit on a Dhemlanese woman from Tereille.

Lady Kesare Fuentes agreed to come to Nharkava to help save one of the Blood’s precious remaining Queens and under her great skill and boundless patience, Saachi again began reaching out to her family for support instead of to the Twisted Kingdom. She would never again be what she was and any suggestion she take up her Village or even a District Seat inevitably provoked a blackslide that took Lady Fuentes days to call her back from. But slowly she recovered sanity and confidence enough to help her mother manage the villages she herself had once ruled. By the time Kesare left with all of their gratitude and what gifts the Dhemlanese woman would accept, Saachi’s mental wounds had closed. They’d left their scars, yes, but for the first time in almost a century she thought she could learn to live with them.

She refused to rule again, however. Her mother did well enough at managing the lands that had been hers, and she gave what she could. She eventually moved herself to the capital of Orissa in search of a new purpose and began studying at the University there. Crop and soil management weren’t the same as becoming one with the land, but they were ways she could help others tend the land anyway.

The Queen had just risen to become the head of her department when her mother called her home to help raise her newest brother, discovered to be a Warlord Prince. Saachi obligingly took a leave of absence and let the baby Prince cut his eyeteeth on her… and, perhaps, grudgingly recovered a bit of the joy that came of acting as someone’s Queen again. But the arrangement couldn’t last forever. Ganaraj got older, his balls finally dropped, and wiser heads packed him off to a real Court for training with darker Jewels. So long and thanks for all the fish, Saachi.

She found other things to reclaim her attention. Her work. The little matter of Nharkava’s occupation by a foreign power for their own ostensible good. Saachi cautiously welcomed Isyviel’s intervention, hoping a Queen’s instincts to care for the land were what drove her- even as she knew there was a Price to be paid for anything. The Blood didn’t do nice for its own sake. And sure enough, the Dark Religion and the grasping foreigners eager for a share of Nharkava’s renewed bounty came creeping in- and Glacia failed to quell the unruly and misguided Landen threatening Nharkava’s stability. The Queen’s blood burned at all these offenses, but she was in no better position to strike at them than the rest of the Territory. Any resistance would have to occur quietly and cunningly.

She joined the Friends of Rose Neela in something of an adjunct capacity at first. She was always happy to shelter or advise a Friend, but couldn’t afford to take a more active role lest the blowback affect the University. But Saachi wasn’t built to sit on the sidelines, and began taking a more active role within the group the longer Nharkava sat under Glacia’s shadow despite the risks. And after the destruction of much of the group’s leadership at the Territory Court, it was Saachi who stepped up to take the disconsolate remnants in hand. She was a Queen of Nharkava, even much diminished, and the Friends could do much worse for a guiding influence.

    Character in Play:

Saachi didn’t attend every meeting of the Friends, but with the destruction of the Territory Court she had made clearing her schedule a priority- and well she had. Hopelessness and despair tainted the air so thickly it was hard to breathe, even for one such as she whose psychic capacity was much diminished. This, in truth, was why she had come. She had known there would be blowback from the catastrophic failure and it was her task as a Queen to ground and steady those around her. Perhaps with her presence, they would be able to recover from this disaster and continue to help Nharkava fight the infection that had plagued it for far to long.

“We must disband!” A warlord shouted, hands clenched into fists as he shouted at another. “Save what we can. I thought we were fighting back, but after this…” He gave a slightly unstable laugh. “We’re just deluding ourselves, aren’t we? The minute we do anything that truly makes a mark, they can and will wipe us out.”

“No.” Saachi found herself growling on instinct. The Queen levelled a steely gaze at the startled faces who glanced her way, rising to prowl to the front of the room and lay her hands on the shoulders of the now-shaking male who’d spoken their fears. “This was a failure of tactics, nothing more. Those who died acted rashly, assumed an empathy that Glacians simply do not have. “We will not make that mistake again.” Money, status, secrets- those things were what motivated those with frozen hearts. The Friends simply needed return to their roots when they’d dealt in that currency instead of dabbling in kidnapping.

“And who’s going to form those tactics now? You?” The male demanded, well aware the Queen had always adopted a background role within the group. “There is no one left!” He hissed.

Oh, if she hadn’t been minded to before, that would have done it. Saachi never could refuse a good challenge. “Yes, me.” Saachi calmly accepted the challenge, stepping up into the male’s space enough to make him take a half-step back. “I ruled here in Nharkava -my land, my family's land- before your mother was even a thought in your grandmother’s head, and I refuse to let her go to the dogs because her people were too frightened to fight for her. Some rewards are with the risk. It will require greater subtlety that that shown in recent months, but all the more reason for me to take a hand in things, I believe.”

“And before you get intimidated by that mess at the Territory Court, remembered there’s a Rebellion out there which Glacia still has not been able to quell. If the damned Landen can rebel and survive, so. can. we!” She growled, now turning to address the group. She grasped at what Craft remained within her, trying to will them to rally and take her confidence as their own. It came slowly, as she held herself still and tried not to betray her tension, but the thoughtful nods and approving smiles that bloomed on the tired faces around her were sign enough.

The Friend of Rose Neela lived still.
