Distinguishing Features
Six feet tall, with large, exquisite red-brown wings with golden high notes; they match her hair: curly, red-gold with dark roots. She has the soft brown eyes of a Rihlander, but with golden flakes. A mischievous smile and warm open chuckle greet people, and those that stand close may notice her scent of spiced leather, soft lace, passion. She carries a Sling and Giant warhammer.

Nadja is charming, with a ready smile. A creature of good cheer, she is not easily riled or ruffled by insult, strife or crisis. These traits are learned, from a simple need as a child to be charming in order to live. They have been honed in the difficult years of her life, a necessary compliment to her fierce, crusading nature. Half Eyrien, half Rihlander, child of subjugation and hardship, each trial has only focused her more finely, allowed the fires of her soul to burn more brightly. Nadja’s mother held the passionate and fierce Rihland spirit in full, and passed that legacy on to her only child. She is a fierce champion of Rihland, despite being despised by nearly every person there in.

The Priestess has a deep, abiding faith in the All Mother, and a pronounced sense of self that has never once let other people define her. Each violation to her soul and spirt pushes her closer to the All Mother, rather than towards insanity. She expects a glorious feast and the adoring welcome she has never known in life, to await her in death. As such, she has no fear of death, merely a concern of dying before she has gained enough honor and glory to change how half breeds are seen.

Nadja channels the righteous fury of the All-Mother into every heft of her hammer and every cry of battle that lifts from her lips. Battle deeply appeals to her, for she feels it is the crucible and refining that all souls require to become what was intended for them. It is not the raw violence and blood shed that draws her, but the honor, glory and purpose behind the fight. She craves those encounters that shape a new reality for all those who witness or partake of it.
Exotically beautiful, alien to all societies, her red-gold hair and burnished wings ensure she is always noticed, though usually the attention drawn is more hostile than appreciative. The Priestess accepts that as the price to open eyes and hearts, not with words, but action. To her, nothing is better than sitting down after a hard fight and sharing rounds of ale and tall tales with those who had despised her just that morning. Well, nothing except sharing those same things with the Unchained.

Carousing, celebrating and making love are driving forces within her. It is the only time she can feign to belong to society as a whole, and precious to her for that reason as well as the genuine joy it brings. Nadja values loyalty and courage in battle over all other traits. Straightforward and blunt, she is not ignorant of the occasional need for diplomacy, and chooses her words carefully when called for.

  • 1 Improving. Being despised by nearly everyone for her half breed status and gloriously, unusually beautiful wings, she is driven to seek personal perfection in appearance and character, both. Though she learned early to let insults and hatred flow off of her with apparent ease, those cruel words are never forgotten, but motivate her to prove just how powerful, fierce, and desirable she can be.
  • 2 Tall tales. Nadja is gifted with turning even mundane tales into amusing stories. Her voice, while by no means flawless, is terribly expressive. It cracks with grief, rings with triumph, and all but burns with righteous fury when the story, tale or battle calls for it.
  • 3 Silver. Silver is the family and sure, solid friend she could never find within her own people. Silver’s adopted family are furiously protected by Nadja regardless of personal feelings or actions, simply due to the unshakeable loyalty she feels to Silver.

  • 1 abuse of women. She cannot ignore subjugation or cruelty directed towards women. They are the daughters of the All-Mother, the source of life, for only they create life within themselves. The drive to protect women as her mother was not protected, as Silver was not, is a fundamental part of her character.
  • 2 Prejudice. Evil, like good, comes in all shapes and sizes, all Castes, all sexes. Nadja hates seeing it in others. She does not often confront verbally, and never lectures, though she isn’t above an object lesson or two.
  • 3 Prying. she neither likes to reveal her own secrets, nor pries into other’s. Actions are more meaningful than words, in every way. So while she accepts confidences of others with the easy grace of a Priestess, she does not force them.

  • 1 Killing her brother/father. Despite their choices, their power, she cannot bring herself to define her father and brother as evil, or enemies. She fears facing them on the field of battle, as much for the thought that she would fail her own moral standards and let them cut her down, as for the fear she would succeed at that moral test only to become a kinslayer.
  • 2 Becoming a hardened killer. One thing she has learned is that gets easier and easier to kill. Determining that a person is beyond redemption seems more reasonable, more rational, over time. She fears becoming a hardened killer, someone who solves all of their problems with violence.
  • 3 Losing her Wings.  She fears that any of the multitude of people in her homeland might hack off her wings. Rihlander or Eyrien, it is her wings that symbolize what both races hate about her. She has the most vivid nightmares about this.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Communion. Nadja has studied this field deeply, in order to bring the full power of her Caste onto the battlefield. She can form Communion swiftly enough to be useful in battle, filling Jewels without great ritual. If she has gifted someone a chip of her Jewel, and they wear it touching their own, she can do so without touching the person physically, as her Jewel is already within their Shields. It requires a great deal of trust, as they are also open to attacks from her.
  • 2 Psychic Cabinet. She loves to hold large rocks, anvils, and other scavenged items to drop upon her enemies in battle. She can hold a vast amount of things.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Deception Craft. A straight forward and blunt person, she has never mastered Deception Craft.
  • 2 Timed Craft. She has difficulty with this entire section of Craft, despite how useful they would be, especially when it comes to protecting her hidden retreat and small Shrines. While she can sometimes manage something, the trigger in Trap and Security spell is never what she intended. The duration on Protection and Extended Duration spells is likewise not what it should be, usually only about half.

    Life Story

    Immediate Family and Significant People
Mother:  Gite Aepplebyr, Yellow to Summer-Sky Hearthwitch, Pure Rihland Short Lived. DECEASED, b. 270 BP. (Known for apple cider and apple pies).
*Father: Avishar Ordrasil, Purple Dusk to Opal Warlord, M692, b. 500 BP in Rihland. Pure Eyrien.
*Half - Brother: Askar Ordasil, Yellow to Summer Sky Warlord, M425, b. 233 BP in Rihland, Pure Eyrien.

    * Jewels from Nadja’s Family Rolls, and adoptable.

245 BP Nadja was born in subjugation, within the mountain fortress of Ebon Varos. The daughter of a Rihlander Hearthwitch who was taken there by force, and a young Eyrien Warlord. He held some affection for her, in those early years, tolerating her ‘fighting moves’ with the frying pans and rolling pins, though not encouraging it.

237 BP Nadja was educated in Craft, politics, economics, agriculture and finance by the Eyriens, despite their general contempt. Her Birthright was a beautiful Summer-Sky. A source of great pride in a pure Eyrien, she earned only a harsher regimen from her instructors. Her mother was emotionally distant, silent upon the nature of Rihland ways and customs, denying her only child even a surname. Upon Nadja’s Birthright, Gite granted the father paternity, but he too denied a surname to the halfbreed he’d sired.

233 BP Nadja’s half brother Askar was born to a pure Eyrien witch. Nadja helped tend to the child, but was an aberration and servant, not kin.

230 BP Nadja would not stop seeking fighting lessons, seeming incapable of understanding that Eyrien women do not fight. She was banished to her mother’s family, in Markoth Province, Svendai District, Firorii Village, Aeppleholt Orchard, right on the North Belaya river, across from the Hunting Camp. They accepted her only because the one thing Gite had taught her was how to cook, including the secret recipes. They taught Nadja to fight, and found she had a gift for it. The Aeppleholt family taught her agriculture and brewing. But their greatest gift to her was teaching her their oral traditions.

227 BP A Priestess, she soon became painfully aware that the Rihlanders followed different traditions than the Eyriens. Desperate to fit in, she sought after such knowledge, agreeing to trials and tests over several years in order to earn it. Despite Nadja’s wings and despised bloodlines, her ardent desire to learn eventually softened the heart of a local Priestess, Vorishi Drellisdotter. Nadja was taught of the All-mother and the sacred groves. But she was far from accepted, and though the elderly Priestess Shielded Nadja’s Jewels, her Virgin Night was a difficult ordeal, performed as it was by a man who hated all that she stood for. Nadja saw it as the Price to learn the truth of herself, prove her strength, and draw closer to the Darkness. It was later, after the heat and passion of battle, that she learned of the glories of sex, how to appease her fierce warrior’s nature, blend pain and pleasure without shame or fear. Most of her partners were quite rough, in the beginning, but enough were also attentive enough to escape shaping her view of males as enemies.

225 BP Nadja’s Offering was a full descent to the Green, shocking to the Aeppleholt community; her nature intensified, in passion, faith and will. The Blood Magic of the Rihlanders came easily to her, and their love of nature eased much of the wounds in her soul.

200 BP Nadja’s mother, Gite, died at 70. Her father had summoned Nadja to take the hearth witch away when Gite grew too frail to work. During those final years, Gite and Nadja grew close. Nadja came to yearn for and champion the Rihland culture that she had striven so ardently to know, and her mother withheld none of its secrets from her.

For about a century thereafter, Nadja continued to function as a Priestess for those too poor or desperate to afford a ‘true’ Rihlander. She also tended remote shrines, holy glades and sacred groves that the wingless struggled to reach. She used her unique heritage and fighting skills to try to rescue Rihlanders from the Eyriens, winning a few scattered friends and lovers. It was then that she stumbled across her now-grown brother. Embarrassed by her self-taught flying moves, he eventually tutored her in how to fly properly, how to fight utilizing her wings and size. While not the same as a true Eyrien Warrior, he still worked with her enough that her wings and build are not a hinderance in battle. Eyriens are the most powerful warriors in the Realms, but now she is a true threat that they must recognize and respect on the field of battle, if nowhere else.

And she did fight Eyriens, for she fought any slavery or oppression of women, no matter who was the perpetrator or who the victim.

Nadja had just helped rescue a small Rihland village from an unusually severe storm, on the night of the Purge. She and the small village had celebrated such a victory with raucous carousing, tales deep into the night, passionate sex and lots and lots of ale.

    A lot of ale.

Not one member of that village was Broken in the Purge; they were unaware of the disaster or its magnitude until desperate survivors from other villages roused them from their drunken stupor. Yet it instilled within Nadja a powerful conviction that each success should be celebrated intensely. ‘Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die’ became not just an oft heard phrase, but a deep lesson on how to value life, and each other.

Nadja needed the strength that insight gave her as her father’s people turned from distant, feared monsters into passionately hated oppressors. The prohibitions seemed to exist for no reason save to give the Eyriens an excuse. Her brother supported the Eyrien regime, and the strife between them grew bitter. In the following years, she found herself forced to retreat into true isolation, for neither Rihland nor Eyrien would tolerate her. Even as she was forced into the wilderness, the Exchange grew in power, feeding on Eyrien and Rihlander both. Nadja learned to choose whom she aided based not upon their skin color, shape, Caste or sex but their nature.

Shortly after the Grey Queen wiped out Draekar, Nadja happened upon Silver. The two worked together to help some Glacians settle in, that particular people not yet hating Nadja on sight. Nadja and Silver spent time periodically rescuing Glacians from Glaica, Rihlanders from Eyriens, Eyriens from Rihladers and everyone from the Exchange.

Silver was bitterly powerful, and Nadja assumed that the Grey Jeweled Healer needed no one. Yet even a Grey Jewel can be overwhelmed. When that happened, Nadja followed rumors to the devastated battlefield. She found the Healer, barely breathing, and spirited her away to her mountain retreat. Slowly and carefully, she nursed Silver back to health. The two discovered a surprising harmony of nature and purpose, despite coming from such different backgrounds. Repulsed on all sides, even hunted by her brother, Nadja followed Silver to Little Terrielle, and wherever the Healer’s heart led her after that.

Nadja returns home every year to offer what help she can, to those who will take it, protect her mountain hideaway, and tend her mother’s grave.

    Character in Play:

Nadja stood before her mother’s grave, her hands still dark with the rich soil she’d used to cover Gite’s ashes. A cool breeze caressed her wings, soothed over her hair. The evening light spilled carelessly through the piled stones, catching upon their glittering quartz or hidden geodes. Each had been painstakingly carved flat, that they would stack more solidly together, and now those smooth parts reflected the dying of the day. It was an hour yet until sunset, and Nadja would not begin the third task - stacking the stones - until night had reclaimed the land. It seemed fitting, to let the physical night embody the Night to which her beloved mother had Returned.

Slowly, Nadja knelt, and let herself reach for the Darkness, for that deep oneness that only was found therein. Since she was a child, the Darkness had been mother and father, friend and lover to her. The caring presence and patient touch she had never had. Tears slowly fell, oddly out of place; there was no true grief here; her mother had come naturally to the end of her days and had welcomed her transfer to the next Realm. The tears fell faster, the wind unable to dry them before they tumbled to the softly scented earth which covered her mother’s ashes.

The tears eased, a natural outpouring of grief that left a seed of hope in her soul. No, she was not part of any Eyrien or Rihland family; she never would be. But she was not alone. Her mother would watch over her more carefully and effectively from death, than she had ever been able to in life. Gite’s home, from the vast mountains of the Avorla District to the lakes of Kondyor had shaped Nadja, and she would forever be part of it.

As true Night fell, a brilliant smile unfurled, sweet and yearning. She was a daughter of Rihland, and that ought to be name and legacy enough for anyone.
