Distinguishing Features:

Personality

Personality:
Iseabel is the quiet Falkirk. In the middle of her boisterous family and Clan, she’s the one who’s watching the scene unfold in front of her, or having a quiet conversation with someone off to the side.  There are times where she doesn’t feel as if she quite fits in, but she’s fiercely loyal to her family, and isn’t afraid to take up for them.  She’s more apt to do it in a quiet, subtle kind of way, maneuvering things behind the scenes rather than doing it directly. Isa is all about organization, planning, and if need be, having an escape plan.  The Priestess isn’t one to go into a situation without having thought of all possible outcomes, and having fallback plans for each of them.  Because of this, she isn’t fond of change or surprises.

Although she is more often serious than not, Iseabel understands that not everyone is like her. In fact, she’d find life to be pretty boring if that were the case. She’s much more of a live and let live sort of person. She has her own opinion and thoughts and isn’t likely to force them on you.  However, if you ask her opinion, be prepared to hear it.  However, she knows that there are ways to get people to take you seriously when you offer an opinion or advice and that it's easier to lead them to where you want them to go, rather than rant and rail.

Iseabel is happiest when she has a problem to solve, especially if it's one that seems to be unsolvable.  She loves a challenge, and one of the quickest ways to get her thinking about doing something is to tell her that she’s not capable of doing it.  Well spoken and rational, she prefers to think her way out of a problem rather than throwing her Jeweled strength at it.

Likes:
  • 1 Law. From the moment she was able to understand the rules that dictated how the Blood live, Iseabel has been fascinated with Law and Protocol.  She finds something freeing in the structure that surrounds the Blood, and therefore gives them the means to live freely and honestly.
  • 2 Clan Library. While the highlanders aren’t often perceived by lowlanders as being well learned, Iseabel is proud of the library that the Clan has amassed. And while it's true that many of her kin would rather be doing something physical, Isa is fiercely proud of her ability to point to the library to shatter expectations.
  • 3 Writing. Priestesses have traditionally been the ones to record the history of the Blood, and Iseabel is no exception. When she isn’t fulfilling the needs of the Court, she can easily be found in the Library transcribing on precious parchment, or recording the current history of the Highlands and Clans.  The scent of ink and parchment is a welcoming scent, and both  relaxes and energizes her.  On of her greatest achievements thus far, is the use of one of her texts at the Dhemlan Naval Academy.
Dislikes:
  • 1 Real world politics not fitting into neat boxes. As with any child raised in the Highlands, Iseabel is aware of battles, wars, life, and death.  Still,  it’s one thing when it’s a matter of history to be read, rather than real world battles that can occur when tempers flair, Clans are given offense, or when Queens go to war.  It makes her very conscious of her role within the Clan and means that she’s exceedingly thorough when giving her thoughts on politics.
  • 2 Being the center of attention. For all that, she's proud of her position, and what she's accomplished, Isa would rather fade into the background.  She’d much rather be the one doing the necessary work for the Clan behind the scenes, rather than the one who’s out in front and noticeable.  She perfectly capable of speaking in front of large crowds, and is capable of holding her own speaking her mind with the males of her Clan.  It tends to be the things that aren’t official that gives her pause.  Any sort of large celebratory affair in which she might be the center of things makes her uncomfortable.
  • 3 Feeling helpless.  At her heart, Isa is a fixer, a problem solver.  It doesn't matter if it is something as simple as mending a torn garment, or something more complex as tending to the ceremonial aspects of her Caste, if there's a task to do that she feels able to complete, she's almost compelled to do it. As such, when things are out of her control, or when she's done all that she can do and its not enough, an overwhelming sense of helplessness and disapointment can set in.  Logically, she knows that it isn't helpful to her pursuits and that sometimes, there are things she can't do.  But in the moment, it can take all she has to not spiral downwards.
Fears:
  • 1 The storm brewing in the Lowlands.  Isa isn’t naive, she knew that the visit to the Killan Court would likely end in some sort of trouble. After all, it’s one of the main reasons she was brought along. With alliances and bonds forming, she’s afraid that the Falkirks might lose more than they gain.
  • 2  Not being able to diffuse a situation.  Iseabel prides herself on her ability to use Blood law and a calm head to keep the peace among her Clan.  And while she’s helped in Highland disputes, the situations in the Lowlands are on a much bigger scale.  The Priestess is reasonably confident in the skills she’s learned, but can’t help but worry all the same.
  • 3 Not finding someone to spend her life with. Iseabel has had lovers from time to time, but never someone that she’d consider for the long haul.  Her work with the Clan keeps her busy, and her time at Kilvary kept her busy when others her age were pairing off.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Preservation Craft. Once her studies in law began in earnest, Isa began to look for ways to preserve the older documents she found in the Library. Unhappy with the way that the texts were being taken care of, she took it upon herself to learn the necessary spells to save them from deterioration. While she can’t easily undo any heavy damage, she is able to slow further damage, giving her enough time to have them copied if necessary.
  • 2 Memory Crystals. While Iseabel has a knack for remembering things down to a minute detail, she can’t memorize the whole of the library, much to her dismay. Instead, she relies on memory crystals as an additional means of storing information.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Vanishing Craft - Can only carry a little more than half of what a witch of her strength should be able to carry in her psychic closet.Isa found out quite by accident that she can’t vanish as much as most. During a kitchen raid with her siblings, her sweet tooth got the best of her. Her attempts to vanish the stolen sweets ended up with most of them splattered about the kitchen and a quick retreat from an angry hearthwitch.
  • 2 Seduction Craft - Although she’s as passionate as any Blood female, Iseabel couldn’t weave a seduction spell if she tried. Awkward at best around any male she’s interested in, the idea of resorting to Craft makes her even more awkward, ending poorly for the witch.

History:

Born and raised in Falkirk Keep, Iseabel early childhood was one of relative ease. Her older sister and many cousins provided her with friends, and on occasion, alibis when their youthful pranks came to the notice of their elders.  Although she’s the middle child, Isa has never felt that she had to stay keep up with Fergie, or ahead of Seona. They’re her sisters, and she loves them dearly. That isn’t to say that there isn’t a healthy dose of competition between them at times, but it’s never mean.  If anything, they drive her to be better, and she’s grateful for it.

Her Priestess training began informally once she began learning basic Craft from her mother.  It began in small ways, watching her mother lead ceremonies and having the opportunity to ask questions afterwards, and  gradually sitting beside Seonaid as she prepared for the rituals. It was in the quiet moments, rising early with Senoaid for prayers, that Iseabel began to feel the connection with Mother Night, even if she couldn’t quite explain it.

By the time she received her Birthright and began officially training with Seonaid, it was obvious that Iseabel had a love of the written word.  She could often be found in the Keep’s Library when she wasn’t studying with the other trainees.  She excelled in the more scholarly aspects of the Priestess training, pouring over legal and Blood Law texts, and making copious amounts of notes when she could.  Her studies involving Ceremonial Craft didn’t come as easily to the young Priestess.  While she can easily commune with the Darkness on her own, helping others commune with Mother Night is difficult, and doesn’t bring the petitioner the depth of peace that she’d like.  As such, while she’s proficient in officiating ceremonies, she defers from doing them if she can, preferring to fulfill the less spiritual duties of her Caste.

The attack on the Keep caused her to dive deeper into her studies of Blood Law. Isa wasn’t as foolish to think that words alone could’ve stopped the attack, but sees the benefit of being able to smooth things over with them.  With each dispute she helps officiate, the Priestess feels she’s doing her part to keep the Falkirks safe.

In an effort to further her studies, she decided to attempt to attend the University at Salamanca.  It wasn’t an easy decision, and she knew her family would worry about her being in a Long Lived Territory without her kin near her.  But, Isa dug her heels in and argued her position until she had their leave, if not their blessing.

Her time at the University opened her eyes to life outside the Highlands.  As a Falkirk (even one of the quieter ones) Iseabel has a considerable amount of pride in  herself, her people, and her Territory.  Having her choice of study looked at as “quaint” or downright appalling, caused the young Priestess to become adept at reining in her temper, hiding her emotions behind a calm visage, and delivering a cutting remark in just the right place.

Still. Iseabel learned a great deal, and did manage to find like minded people with whom she could be more herself.  Determined to prove that she deserved to be at the University, Isa threw herself into her studies, coming early and leaving late.  Eventually she finished her courses at the top of her class.  It was then that she truly learned that some prejudices weren’t able to be overcome by hard work. Regardless of her accomplishments, there would always be members of the Blood who think of her as lesser because of background.

At twenty, she completed her Virgin Night with a family friend, and made her Offering.  The joy she felt leaving the Temple at her full strength affirmed her connection with the Darkness, and helped her feel more at peace with her Caste.

Shortly after receiving her Offering, she accepted an offer to continue her training at the Kilvary Court with a Priestess who specialized in Law.  While she was sad leave her family again when she'd only just returned home, she understood the opportunity that was being offered to her, and left the Keep. Studying at Kilvary was different than being at home, but the skills she learned in her time there has been invaluable.

After four years in the Court, Iseabel returned home to her Clan, and took up the position of the Clan’s legal expert.  She’s aware that most see her roll as unnecessary, but she’s content with the good that it allows her to do.  With the Clan (and both Queens!) now in what feels like the middle of a brewing storm, Isa hopes that her skills are good enough to help her Clan navigate the fallout from the Killan/Sheane war.

Character in Play:

Evening found Iseabel ensconced in a corner of the Keep Library, surrounded by books and parchment.  The stack on her left had been skimmed through and set aside for return to the stacks.  The larger pile on her right, she’d yet to look through, and the book in front of her was opened to a chapter that contained a particularly tricky bit of maritime law.  Set well out of the way of the books and parchment, but still within easy reach, was a cup of tea that had cooled, forgotten in her determination to master this new bit of information.

Distantly, she was aware of someone approaching her table, but so rarely was she bothered in the Library that she didn’t notice until her book was pulled from her reach and closed.  Not bothering to look up, Isa finished her notes before setting the pen aside. Straightening slowly, she fixed the Warlord in front of her with an expectant gaze, before raising an eyebrow in question.

“Oh come on now Izzy, don’t look at me like that.  You’ve been back for less than a week, and no one’s seen neither hide nor hair of ye.” he paused, attempting to size up just how angry the witch was with him.

“Surely you can spend some time with your kin seeing as you just returned from Dhemlan?”

Izzy. There was a name she hadn’t been called in the two years she was gone.  Shaking her head, she held her hand out for the book.  Once it was placed back in her hands, she flipped to the chapter she’d been reading, and placed a bookmark there before closing it once more.

Looking about, she tidied up a bit before rising to her feet and levelling her best stare at her cousin.  “Be glad I like you boyo,” she quipped, a smile tugging at her lips as she stepped around the desk and tucked her arm through his.
