Delion Silver
« on: Nov 28, 11, 02:45:49 PM »
The Basics
Character Name: Delion Silver
Nicknames:
Age:  58 (AP 130)
Race:  Short Lived
Caste:  Warlord Prince
Birth Territory: Glacia
Home Territory: Glacia

Birthright Jewel: cut Purple Dusk
Offering Jewel:  cut Sapphire
Appearance
Play By: Mark Harmon
Distinguishing Features:
Delion prefers to sport slightly longer hair than is fashionable for his age.  This is a matter of practicality rather than vanity or fashion, his hair is fairly thin and Glacian air can be rather chill.  Longer hair keeps his head warmer.   However it is always neat, and trim.  On the right side of his face, running from his temple to just under his thin is a long, hairline scar that is so old and faded upon first glance it could easily be mistaken for a long crease to his face.  Delion refuses to divulge the nature of this scar with anyone.
Personality
Personality:

Delion is the type of man that if called to the service of a standing army would easily fit in as a grunt soldier but could also have the commanding leadership presence of a high ranking general.   He is perceived as a serious, stern individual whose sharp eagle eyes are trained on everything going on around him at every minute.   Above all he demands perfection from no one more so than himself.  His strict attention to detail is a trait that he forced upon himself from a  young age, already determined to make a significant mark upon a world that he viewed as lax and too allowing.  Having the darkest jewels of all his siblings gave him a need to be responsible and set a perfect example for all his sisters, and yet because his mother was a Red Witch, he held her position as matriarch of the family with unwavering devotion.

It could be said that his strict personal discipline and regimental behavior is due to his caste.  Delion hates to feel enslaved to anyone and anything, particularly his own nature.   To give in the rudimentary urges and angers that make him a Warlord Prince makes him feel weak.   He struggles to keep the hostility and aggression that are so natural to him at bay by channeling his energies into a rigorous exercise routine and an demanding mental schedule.  But even this at best only quells the most obvious, outward aggressive tendencies.  At his heart and core, Delion is still a Warlord Prince with all the passion and intensity that is its trademark.  He has risen to and walked up to the edge of a killing field several times, and only once stepped over that line.   It was that one time that left its mark on him, both spiritually and physically.  The scar on his face, a testament to the warrior within and the scars on his soul, which only Mother Night truly knows.

He is a deeply religious man, taught by his parents to respect the power of the Darkness, the gifts and bounty Mother Night provided to them in however She felt to do so.  He fully believed that the power of Darkness was a blessing that was passed through the maternal lines and that males were honor and duty bound to protect these women.  While some are very outgoing in their religious rhetoric, he remains quiet in his faith.  His silence, he feels, exhibits an even stronger faith, for only those who lack the conviction of their beliefs feel the need to proclaim them loudly to everyone else.

He secretly harbors a feeling of emptiness that no amount of rigor and discipline can seem to feel.   He feels disconnected on a deep level that he cannot figure out how to fill.  He has spent much time visiting the holy caves that were sacred to the Darkness, but to no avail.  Perhaps it is because he is male and could never obtain the close proximity to the Darkness that is inherently female.

Likes:
  • Punctuality - Delion is a figure of strict professionalism.  He is focused on every detail of his life, including being on time.  He is never early, for he feels waiting around to be a waste of his time better focused on other tasks.
  • Blunt Assertiveness - Where some may find bluntness obnoxious or annoying, or even rude; Delion doesn't like those who play word games.  This is probably the reason that even though he accepted a Court position, he detests the word games the aristos are famous for.
  • Horses - Delion finds these animals majestic and noble, the proper companion for any of the Blood.  He secretly entertains the idea of meeting one of the Kindred Horses someday.
Dislikes:
  • Slovenliness -  Delion can find no excuse for those who refuse to pull their share and contribute to the whole of their society.  Lazy individuals, content to live off the hard work of others revolts him.
  • Alcohol - Besides never having been fond of the taste, Delion believes alcohol dulls the senses and numbs the mind, two aspects that he feels should be sharp and aware at all times.  He does not begrudge the drinking of wine for meals, but those who drink at all occasions or drink to become inebriated are a useless creature and disgraceful to the Blood.
  • Aristo Arrogance - Delion recognizes that diversity will be be the key strength of the Blood in order to survive, and those who still live in the disillusioned realm that only the pure of the Blood are important and significant enough to be of note, anger and annoy him.
Fears:
  • His past being brought to life - Delion carries deep within him a private torture, a secret buried deep within.   No one, not even his mother knows of this part of his past and he fears that one day of being held to account for the black mark on his soul.
  • Danger to his sisters - With so much cautious attention being paid towards the lighter jeweled blood in the territory, he worries about the fate of his sisters.  He knows his mother, wearing the darkest of all their jewels would do everything in her power to protect them, he feels like the currents of opinion are changing faster than they might believe and being so young and impressionable, they might get swept up in dangerous matters that would put their lives and their jewels at risk.
  • Becoming a danger to those around him - Suppressing the traits that labels him as a Warlord Prince requires a great deal of focus and effort.  He fears the time will come when his nature gets the better of him and that it could cost him dearly, in the form even of someone he holds dear.  Should he ever step onto the killing field again,  he knew without a doubt that while he might not step off alive, he would not be the only whisper that echoed into the Darkness.
Craft Strengths:
  •   Aural Shielding - The ability to block others from overhearing conversations that are meant to be private and in the strictest confidence is an asset most valuable to a man who wishes to hold a position of trusted power in a court, any court.
  •   Sight Shielding - Certain documents that are only meant to be seen in the highest of confidences and by the most trusted of court members could not be lightly left in a vulnerable position.  Through some strange fluke of his training, Delion has the ability to sight shield objects from even jewels darker than his own.
Craft Weaknesses:
  •    Healing Craft - Talent in the healing arts requires a bit of emotional connection to other people  which Delion lacks.  Not that he is without compassion or even uncaring, but unless it is a member of his family or someone he is honor bound to, the depth of his involvement is minimal at best.
  •   Earth Craft - Like his healing abilities, his connection to the land is passing at best.  He feels no ties to the power that dwells in the ground beneath his feet, and as such has no knowledge of its ebb and flow and what it requires to flourish.
Life Story

Family:
Mother:  Geneve Rinne - Green to Red Witch; 76 (AP 110)
Father:  Fredrick Silver (Deceased) -  Opal to Sapphire Warlord
Sister - Ailea Rinne - Tiger Eye to Purple Dusk Black Widow; 45 (AP 141)
Sister - Coren Rinne - White to Tiger Eye Hearth Witch; 32 (AP 154)
Sister - Sibilasia Rinne - Rose to Opal Witch ; 26 (AP 160)
Sister - Tashia Rinne - White to Rose Witch; 26 (AP 160)

History:
Delion’s family have been in Glacia as far back as any of them can remember, certainly well before the Purge, but deep in their roots they know that they are not pure Glacian.  On both his mother and father’s side of the family, there is always one member of each generation who doesn’t have the very typical blond hair and blue eyed Glacian.  Because of this ancestry, Delian’s hair is a few shades darker than traditional Glacia, bordering more on almost dirty blond.  However, with his age came greying hair which gave an overall lighter appearance.  His eyes however are a very piercing blue.

Delion’s parents were of modest means, and the young boy grew up wanting for nothing but his father instilled in him a strong recognition of the value of the things in his life, and he learned quickly to value and treasure all the things he had.  His development as a Warlord Prince had been a surprise to his parents, neither of whom had a Warlord Prince within their recent family and the more volatile aspects of his nature that blossomed during his teenage years was a challenge, which they survived unscathed.

His birth, so soon after his parents’ marriage had signaled a quick to grow family, but it wouldn’t be until he was 11 until his mother had another child, his sister Ailea.  His next sister, Coren followed after his 24th birthday, a surprising easy birth considering how old his mother was.  However Geneve was persistent in her endeavors and delivered twin girls on the day of her 50th birthday.   Delion relished in being an older brother, doting and attentive to each of them.   They were all as close as siblings could be, despite wide range in difference between their ages and after the unexpected death of their father, when the twins were scarcely a year old, thrust Delion into a new position of power within his family.  With his father dead, he was now responsible for the care and protection of his mother and sisters; even though Aliea and Coren had both married, he considered it his duty to keep an eye on them as well.

With the death of his father, Delion set out seeking a favorable position within the Falun court.   Asking to join what he felt was a farce of a court left a bitter taste on his mouth, a court was meant to be ruled by a Queen.  Only they were what the Darkness intended to be the custodians of the land.  He had not personal issues with the Healer,  Healers were also a special caste sanctioned by Mother Night to aid her children, but they did not have the innate abilities that the land truly needed.

However, work was work and the income his third circle position granted him allowed him to support his mother and sisters.    It also granted him more access to families with a lot more pull and prestige than his own had ever had.  Being advanced in his years, the Steward took it upon himself to train a protégé.  Delion rose to the occasion, and it was much discussed that he could possibly be offered the Steward's ring when the acting Steward either stepped down or passed into the Darkness himself.

Due to his devotion to detail and swift delivery of tasks caught the eye of a young Queen, wearing a Blood Opal Offering Jewel.  She had been interning at the Falun court and was beginning to seek out candidates willing to serve in an inexperienced Queen's new court.   After her training had been completed, she invited Delion to serve as her Steward based on the work she had seen during her time in Falun.    This assent did not go unnoticed by several contemporaries who spoke rather crudely about him and what exactly had earned him such a prestigious promotion.   Instead of reacting to their henpecking and negative gossip, he pushed himself harder to prove to his Queen and everyone in the territory that he deserved the ring he wore.

Salo was a smaller province, wedge between Tornio and Virratt and surrounded by the river Turla.  Because the river fed directly from Glacia's high and ice covered mountains, the river brought significantly colder temperatures down which surrounded the small province.  The same river that allowed Salo to have rich fertile soil, saturated with minerals; also crippled it by enveloping it with this constant cold front.   This made harvesting the riches from the land much more difficult.

Delion quickly took it upon himself the near impossible task to figure out a way to warm the land to a more productive temperature.   The easiest answer would be to spell the water warmer so that it would carry the warmth through the land, but how to do so without a vast drain on resources that would be better served elsewhere.  Surveying the ratio of light jeweled Blood to the dark jewel population, he came up with an idea.   Since the laws governing light and dark jeweled demanded that the darker reserved blood were responsible for the actions and behaviors of their lighter jeweled relatives,  he brought forth a proposal to his Queen.

Light jewels who were not valued within the province, troublemakers or slackers, Blood who were causing unnecessary burdens on their families and their homes could be "conscripted" into service for the Queen.  They would be relocated to an encampment at the delta of the river, at the further most eastern border of Salo and there, with the use of compulsion spells and other webs, would have their Offering jewels drained at a steady but safe rate and that power would be used to heat the rocks beneath the riverbed.   These individuals would be rotated at a consistent rate to prevent their jewels being completely broken by this.

His Queen was most certainly pleased by his decision, because it solved two problems that could have been potential inhibitors to her province.  Under Delion's system, the fertile river banks became more useful to crop cultivation while respecting the natural environmental limitations that would otherwise demand the Queen's attention to balance.   Flora and fauna were able to adapt to the warming without endangering either and the land was more useful.   Delion allowed himself a small sense of victory over this and his position as Steward was reinforced to all his previous nay-sayers.

Delion has never married though he certainly has never lacked for a partner in the Bedroom Dance.  His bright blue eyes and self-assured grin that he could chose to flash from time to time could melt the snow from the mountains around Glacia.  He had his share of casual romances, even considered settling down and raising a family himself but the pull was never there, the desire was never there and though he tried, his heart always felt incomplete.

This insecurity and lack of control bothered him deeply, he prided himself on being a man in complete control of his faculties and yet there seemed to be a piece of his puzzle missing.  So he dealt with this as he did best, internalize and compartmentalized it deep inside.  He might not be able to figure it out, but he certainly wouldn't let it weaken him.

Writing Sample:

Delion knelt in the darkness, feeling the cold damp pressing down on him in all directions.  The soft dripping of water in the distant shadows was the only sound he could hear outside of the slow and steady rise and fall of his breath.  Night had fallen, he could feel the obsidian darkness of pressing in around him from all sides as he waited dutifully.

"You seek the Darkness' blessing?" spoke a soft feminine voice.  It reverberated off all the walls making it impossible for him to locate where the origin of the voice was standing.  His eyes were closed, opening them was pointless.  The darkness was consuming and even with his eyes open, he would see nothing.  Closing his eyes was a small comfort against all the black.

"Yes, I come to make my Offering," he responded seriously, feeling the thrum of his jewel's power against his chest where it hung.

"Then return to the Mother as you emerged from her,  bare  your skin and your soul to Her so she may judge your worthiness," she commanded.   Delion pulled off the thin tunic and leggings he had worn into the cave at sunset.  They had provided little warmth but now, feeling the hard cold against his naked skin set goose bumps all over his skin.  His breath caught in his chest as he steeled himself and walked forward.

Instinct guided him forward, and in the darkness he was aware of something before him.   He took several steps before stopping and placing his hand on a smooth surface.  His thumb traced the edge and noted it was ice slick and perfectly smooth, but along the top was a soft layer, spongy and surprisingly warm even in this cold damp environment.

"What do you desire," whispered the woman in his ear, and her breath was ice cold, sending painful shivers down his back as heat rose up in his core.

"I offer myself to the Darkness, to be judged and weighed in the Mother's service," he spoke.  "I offer the only token of value I possess.  I offer my birthright."   He reached up and pulled the chain over his head, laying the stone down on the surface before him.

"Prince," and her voice sent lightening from his head to toe.  He didn't know if he was aroused by her dark voice or frightened, both sensations were intertwined as they shot through his body.  "You chose to come to this Altar, to this sacred place.  Any altar, any Priestess could have taken you through your Offering.  Why did you come here?"

His voice caught nervously in his throat as he searched for the right words, the words spoken from his core, but it was damned hard to concentrate as she slid feather light nails down his arms, his back, and he felt feather light brushes in much more intimate areas.  "This place is one of the most sacred altars dedicated to Mother Night.  If any male could be truly worthy to be in the presence of Her, it would be here, in this sanctuary deep within her womb.   True, I could have gone to a nearby altar, but what sign of devotion, of sacrifice would that have been, taking an easy path."

He felt her laughter ripple through the air as she pressed against his back and he was shocked to realize that she was as naked as he was.  "A noble answer, we shall see if your sacrifice is truely worth your journey."   He blinked quickly, his eyes now looking around to see her but the room was still midnight dark.   She moved away, humming softly as she circled the altar, if that is what the surface before him was.  He held his breath as she took his hand in hers, her fingers tracing the lines on his skin before placing a kiss on his open palm.

Before he could react, he felt a sharp stake of ice pierce the same hand.   He hissed but held his voice as his jewel was placed over the wound and the once silken smooth female voice was replaced by a steeled, cavernous dark voice, "Make your decent Prince and we shall see what you have done with the gifts the Mother has given you."

With that, the world vanished.

When he opened his eyes, a point of light was shining on his face.  He squinted against it and looked around.  He was curled up on a bed of moss, just near the entrance of the cave.  His clothing was laid out neatly beside him and clenched tightly in one hand was his Birthright, the familiar thrum welcoming him back to consciousness.  In his other hand, potent and dark and deliciously his, was the sign of the Darkness' pleasure with him, his Offering jewel.

Family Rolls upon Request:
1. Green to Red
2. Opal to Sapphire
3. Tiger eye to Purple dusk
4. white to Tiger eye
5. Rose to Opal
6. white to Rose

Lene, for the Petition you would need to choose a specific Jewel and then go through the entire application process with that Jewel in mind. If you're looking for a Random Dark Jewel then you'd need to buy that from the Points Shop (I don't believe you have enough points at the moment). Alternatively we do have the Winsol Charity auctions coming up so you may be able to find something appropriate there.
