Distinguishing Features: Azar is usually dressed in garments evocative of water -- flowing, revealing, concealing. She is always finely dressed and ornately jeweled. Her hair is either left unbound or lightly styled.

Azar craves being the center of attention, the savior, the chosen one. She developed her need for being in the spotlight as a young child, being the tenth child of her family and always having to fight to be recognized. But her hero complex developed in her teenage years, especially around the age of eighteen. As one of the youngest Priestesses ever to complete the ritual, Azar’s ego inflated as a result. She sees herself as the one gifted by Mother Night, to revitalize Pruul and the Aubdina. Though Queen she is not, she acts as one, with her word being law within the order. Defiance is not accepted. Azar will craft a new breed of Priestess with her own hand. She is proud, judgemental, and petty. She remembers slights and holds grudges. She demands perfection of her trainees.

Accompanying her goddess-like image of herself is the idea that she can give and she can take away. She is a jealous woman, though not prone to emotional outbursts. She will do just about anything to maintain her power. Please her, and she will shower gifts and prestige upon you. Incur her wrath and suffer. Azar keeps plenty of allies at hand and makes just as many enemies. She is the shifting sands, stable and certain one moment, crumbling the next. Expect her to strike like a viper and do not trust her, because promises were meant to be broken.

For all of her self-centeredness, Azar’s chink in her armor is her own self doubt. Her need to stay in power is so very obvious that she spend hours internally debating a decision, like moving pieces on a chessboard. She fears the day she will be removed from power, especially now that she has met Hadjara, and more and more of her actions nowadays are intent upon securing her place as the savior Head Aubdina for years to come.

  • 1 - Being the center of attention. This should come as no surprise for Azar, who is vain and craves the admiration of others. She dresses accordingly for this, with garments meant to catch eyes and jewelry to indicate her elevated status. She will only be seen at events with others of prominence, others who appreciate her power.
  • 2 - Gifts. Whether it be gold, exotic goods, or lavish praise, Azar is a sucker for people showering her with offerings. It instantly puts her in a better mood.
  • 3 - Water. Water is sensual. It is adaptive. It has the power to clean out wounds and has the power to carve out giant canyons. Azar loves the nature of water and uses its traits in her teachings. She keeps small bowls of water nearby to dip her fingers into to remind herself of its power and its place in her life.
  • 1 - Queens. Queens embody a power that Azar has always envied, being the heart of the Blood society. Azar craves that sort of control and status and knows she can never get it because a Queen is born, never made. She hates dealing with them because they remind her of this unbreachable gap.
  • 2 - Men. They are arrogant, foolish. They swagger when they should be groveling. They demand when they should beg. Azar would gladly keep a few chained at her side as a display of her power, to remind those proud creatures that they are beneath her.
  • 3 - Her family. Aside from her brother Tariq, Azar would love to disown all of her family, particular her Queen sister Zaida. Her family never appreciated her enough and she still bears that grudge into her adult years. If anyone aside from Tariq comes to visit Azar in her sanctuary, the entire place walks on eggshells because of her mood.
  • 1 - Losing her position as Head Aubdina. This is a very recent sort of fear in Azar’s life, brought on by the rumor of Hadjara passing the Aub ritual before her Offering. Azar fears this will shatter her image of the savior she intends to be for Pruul.
  • 2 - Failure. Azar has only ever failed to bring water to Pruul once, and she has justified it and denied it and excused it away as not her fault. Failure again would, in her eyes, be a damning mark that she is not worthy of her position.
  • 3 - Retribution. Azar has plenty of enemies, mostly men, who would love to see her brought low for the scorn and suffering she has handed them. When her stress levels are high, she has nightmares about these men exacting their retribution upon her in the most horrid of ways.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 - Ritual Craft. This came naturally to Azar as a child and only strengthened with training. She has great understanding of the intricacies of rituals and ceremonies, down to the minute details that make all of the difference in her eyes.
  • 2 - Whimsy Craft. Azar loves to put on a good show. Often her rituals are highlighted with additional flare, so that everyone remembers her. As a child, she picked this up out of a need to be unique (and therefore seen) and as an adult, she puts it to use garnering admirers.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 - Jewel Management. Azar’s pride serves as her own downfall in this. She is reckless with her Jewels because she wants to be seen and be heard. Moderation is for the weak.
  • 2 - Extended Duration Spells. Azar has little to no patience for most things and discarded her studies about this aspect of Craft because she found it far too boring.

Born the youngest of ten, Azar remembers her childhood as terrible. She was always ignored in favor of her older siblings, so her grandeur constantly had to wait to be acknowledged. Azar grew impatient with waiting and set herself on the path to do greater and greater things with her life: like becoming one of the Aubdina, if not THE Aubdina. From early on, she showed both a passion to learn about being a Water Priestess and great aptitude with spells. Her family flourished from that, even if they failed to admire her adequately for her skill. Maybe her sister Aliyah knew how to mend broken bones, or her brother Tariq knew how to fight, but Azar knew how to keep them all alive by purifying existing water and she saw herself as way more important than everyone else.

At her Birthright, she was highly upset that she only got a Tiger Eye. She pushed that little Jewel recklessly, to the point that elders cautioned her not to break it. But Azar was not to be outdone. She studied and dared and strove to be better than all of the other Priestess trainees. Some people thought she would break under the stress. Azar continued to astound others with how quickly she learned and advanced. Eventually, a hero complex grew within her, even though she had a paltry Tiger Eye. She was going to save all of Pruul!

The days around her Offering and what she saw as her ascension caused a lot of worry and drama within the Order but Azar was undaunted. Barely recovered from receiving her Summer Sky Jewel, she underwent the Rite of Aub the next day. At first, many thought she would die from such a reckless, foolish attempt. And again, as if Mother Night was confirming Azar as savior, she passed, emerging victorious over the poison. Finally, she had the Head Aubdina’s attention and her studies took a new, more appropriate course.

Azar was going to become Head Aubdina. She just knew it.

Though she hated training the younger Priestesses, since she saw them all as rivals, she did everything Head Aubdina Tsara asked. And when the woman fell mysteriously ill over the course of a few months, Azar would let no one but herself care for her mentor, further securing her future as Head of the Water Priestesses. When Tsara died later that year, Azar, again, emerged victorious over her rivals, becoming Head Aubdina at the age of thirty.

Her glorious future secured, Azar began reforming the Aubdina from within, releasing those who openly opposed her from their contracts, reassigning those who could be linked to negative rumors about her to other, quite remote places. Within the walls of her dominion, she trained more Priestesses with a greater success rate than her predecessors, demanding a higher standard of quality from the start. No longer did the Aubdina take in any stray for training -- no, Azar saw to it that those who could claim induction into her Order as only the best. Pruul would not be saved in any other manner.

But Azar, in her shortsightedness, has set herself up for disaster. There are others in her training that are more powerful than she and now that she has power, she realizes keenly how easily it can be taken away. To what lengths will she go to keep her position as Head Aubdina?

Character in Play:
“Priestess, you should rest!”

With a snarl, Azar pushed the hindering woman away. It did not matter that her hair was matted from her ordeal, or that she clutched her newly begotten Summer Sky Jewel so tightly in her hand that it appeared more like claws than fingers, or that the feral exposure of her teeth made her look more like a demon risen from Hell rather than a Priestess emerging from her Offering. None of it mattered.

Azar was burdened with glorious purpose and that purpose could not wait.

“Have food and water brought to my quarters immediately,” Azar commanded as she stalked and staggered forward. “And a fortified wine. And fetch the Head Aubdina Tsara. In the morning, I take the Rite.”

“Priestess! That’s...that’s...madness!”

With another snarl, Azar whirled towards the woman who had been assigned to care for her after her Offering. “Maybe the lesser trainees need to rest before the Rite,” she growled, her usually eloquent voice turned rough with exhaustion and determination. “Maybe those not worthy of the call require waiting. But I…” Her free hand pointed at her chest, at her wildly beating heart that knew she was on the verge of triumph! I am Azar!” she declared, as if by her Offering she had been given a new name as well as new purpose. “I need no rest.”

She whirled around and began her forward motion again. She heard the woman following at a shuffling, worried pace. Azar ignored her feeble nature. That would change when she became Head Aubdina. All of it would change! “Prepare the Rite,” she commanded, again, and if the woman was stupid enough to contradict her, Azar would shove her new Jewel down the bleating coward’s throat.

“In three days, all of Pruul will see the power of the Water Priestesses!”
