From the top of her silky blond head to the tips of her dainty toes she is very beautiful.

Spoiler:  Detailed Description (click to show/hide)
Personality:

Saoirse is a complex person filled with contradictions. Unearthly beautiful and charming from birth, yet fundamentally insecure that she has any value save her looks. Filled with a fiery, indomitable will that challenges whole territories to change their point of view, yet forced to operate silently, invisibly. So vain that it colors every choice; shallow, manipulative yet willing to risk life and beauty for a child she dare not even raise. So blindingly angry she willingly consorts with outlaws and ruffians, murderers and kidnappers, yet profoundly honorable and reliable
within her underground network. Wildly devoted to helping Black-Widows in theory, yet unmoved by their individual agony.

Saoirse is a vain creature, intelligent and passionate but she knows deep within her soul that her beauty will not last. Her beauty has brought her family status, is her primary defense and social asset. She believes her mother's coldness towards her is jealousy. Why else would her mother have had two boys? The fear that her father loves her only because she is beautiful clings to her still.

Her indomitable will and determination to live in Scelt caused her to refuse the easy way out, a quick trip to Little Tereille or Dharo. Her disastrous trip first trip back to Scelt heightened her resolve. She is fixated on changing Scelt.

She is furious at Scelt, for her family's death and the mindless prejudice that forced her to flee to Dhemlan as a child. She bears no guilt or regret when using her skills to gather information to use for blackmail, to rescue and smuggle Black Widows to her Dhemlan Coven via the Adair Clan, or even to hide and train those who do not choose escape.

What she hated most in the Dhemlanese was that her beauty did not dim their prejudice. Her short life span makes her ability to impact the Dhemlanese negligible, but her connection to Scelt town and the Dhemlanese artisans allow her to impact Scelt. Saoirse feels a great sense of gratification for each Black-Widow she smuggles out of or into Scelt.

She loves wild parties and wild warlord-Princes, finding in each a release for her sensual Black-Widow's instincts. Like all Black-Widows, she is passionate and prickly, but she (and her family) call her earthy and  volatile. Her genuine desire to understand people is easily mistaken for kindness or friendship. Learning what motivates people is more a desire to have control and leverage than friendship. She uses layers of illusions, scent, light and sound effects to make her fantastic rooms seem surreal, creating theatrical settings for her guests.

A side effect of her vanity was finding the casual dismissal of the long-lived to be unbearable. Torn between being hated, or being ignored, she chose the hatred. But on her own terms.

Likes:
  • 1 Young Warlord-Princes. Saoirse loves the uncontrolled, unbridled Warlord-Prince. His passion echoes her own nature. Her beauty and sensuality means she rarely is without a partner. She even enjoys watching a rut from the safety of her webs.
  • 2 Having status. Being seen as a respected member of society, a land owner with retainers, escorts and assets. She hopes to add wealth and service to a queen to that list, but she must find a Court with no Dark Jewels, No Court Seer, and little interaction with either.
  • 3 Theatrics.Costume parties, charades, themed parties especially if they can be enjoyed from the safety of her home. She will out go to other parties and plays but they make her nervous because she can't control who sees her.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Living in Dhemlan. Short-lived living in Dhemlan are second class citizens. The prospects for good employment are scarce and the prejudice against them tends to range on the side of dismissing their skills (how can they really be an expert so young?) to avoiding them socially (why become close to someone who will die so young. It is borrowing pain). Worst of all, her beauty didn't seem to ease the prejudice, but exasperate it.
  • 2 Princes and Conleth in particular. They are in general too controlled. Few do anything spontaneously and her taste for fantasies seem alien to Princes. She's sure that Conleth only pretended to be the kind of dare-devil she likes to get her into bed.
  • 3 The Scelt Coven. With the benefit of the finest education (University of Salamanca Caste education once her child was born) she does not understand why the Scelt Coven does not do more to protect their own. A couple masks and robes, a dozen angry Widows, and Scelt would learn respect along with their fear.

    Fears:
  • 1 Being Disfigured. She has a great dread of being disfigured, weather as retribution for her Caste, actions or shear beauty. Her beauty is her life, her source of influence and power. She is privately convinced that her own father only saved her because of her great beauty and charm, even as a child.
  • 2 Never knowing Caity's love. For the last 7 years Saoirse has had only a few short meetings with her daughter. Her daughter doesn't even know her last name. Saoirse sends the child presents (for Caity's enjoyment) and pets (for Saoirse enjoyment of watching Conleth cope).
  • 3 Bearing another child. The need to use her trinket to hide her Caste nearly killed both mother and child, but it compounds her fear of stretch marks and distended belly along with all the other physical and mental side-effects pregnancy can cause.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Binding. The importance of hiding her Caste has been drilled into Saoirse since her fang first manifested. Her Dhemlan Kaeleer instructor emphasized Caste binding, willingly abetting Saoirse's plan to return to Scelt. She was taught every nuance, subtlety and even non-craft methods of hiding her scent and her fang. Because her jewel strength is week her poison is weak and her natural fang very small. Her bathing ritual each evening includes draining her poison, which she sells as pain killer or hallucinogens from Dhemlan. She can bind herself and others with minimum energy expenditure. Most Black Widows are nearly impossible to poison, but she could fall to poison. Even her own poison makes her giddy. She wears gloves, long finger nails and gaudy rings to distract from or hide her fang.

  • 2 Illusion. Saoirse has honed Illusion Craft over the years to blend with reality to mask herself and transform rooms within her home to reflect the fantasies of her guests. She uses illusion on her fang to make it look like her finger. Extensive research allows her to satisfy their desires while indulging in her own passion's fantasy.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Poisons. Saoirse only uses poisons as a last recourse. She usually buys them from her Chef or if she needs a Black-Widow poison she'll order it from her Coven in Dhemlan. Because her jewel strength is week her poison is weak and her natural fang very small. Her bathing ritual each evening includes draining her poison, which she sells as pain killer or hallucinogens from Dhemlan. Most Black Widows are nearly impossible to poison, but she could fall to poison. Even her own poison makes her giddy. She wears gloves, long finger nails and gaudy rings to distract from or hide her fang.

  • 2 Mind Healing. Saoirse is very self absorbed and has very little empathy. This makes it very hard for her to establish a rapport with people she does not know. She has learned all the Craft techniques taught to the short-lived but doesn't use this Craft except when desperate.

    Life Story:

Mother: Andria McTiernian, F48 in 189AP, killed durning Sapphire Witch storm. Priestess.

    History:

Saoirse was born at McTiernian Manor, first daughter of Andria McTiernian, one of the many granddaughters of Aideen McTiernian, highly placed female of the McTiernian Clan, an offshoot of the powerful Kerry Clan. It was Andria's job to keep Aideen up to date on the ever shifting political alliances within the district. The post had very little to do with Court intrigues and more to keep Andria out of the old woman's way. Saoirse's birth changed that.

Saoirse was a beautiful baby, gurgling and cooing more often than crying due to her doting father's care more than Saoirse's nature. Aideen saw the baby as a tool, to soften political rivals and foster feelings of friendship and trust. As the baby grew her beauty didn't fade or twist into awkward adolescence, she was the Golden Girl. Saoirse soon learned the power of tears. But Aideen taught the child to listen not just to the words but the inflections and emotions behind them. Reporting to Aideen every day just before dinner started when her mother became pregnant with Eorich. The cynical old woman found a kindred spirit in the girl which meant the elevation of status and wealth for Saoirse's family.

The birth of brother Eorich was anti-climatic for Saoirse. She had very little to do with her mother before the boy's birth, her waking hours being spent with her father or great-grandmother. The baby was a wrinkled, loud, smelly mess that only had one redeeming feature, his soft fuzzy blond hair. She trained him to throw temper tantrums when she made faces at him and that he would get hurt if he didn't share his cookies with her. He was her foil; the gargoyle to her angel.

At seven Saoirse began training in ernest for her Birthright Ceremony. Her mother was supposed to train her but Andria was pregnant again and her morning sickness was severe. Ailis, a crony of Aideen's, was pressed into service. This ancient priestess slept threw most of the lessons. When a year later Saoirse's Birthright Jewel turned out to be a White, Aideen and Saoirse both blamed Ailis. When Saoirse went to complain to her father she found him in the solar with her mother and newborn brother Quinten.

Her mother was cooing. Not crying as Saoirse had supposed she would be for failing to give Saoirse Priestess training which forced her birthright jewel to be insufficient. Perhaps her mother didn't know, she hadn't come to the Birthright Ceremony, it wasn't Saoirse fault the baby was born today. But all her mother said when shown the White Jewel was a "That's nice dear." Her father gathered her to him saying "Mother-night blessed you today, Golden Girl with a Jewel and a baby brother." Saoirse scrutinized the baby. This new brother was just as ugly as Eorich had been but without the redeeming fuzzy hair. She settled against her father and sighed.

Saoirse did not have an awkward adolescence, her growth spurts flowed tastefully from child to teen, she was her great-grandmother's pride and joy. Her fits of bad temper were dismissed as growing pains. But late one evening her Black-Widow Caste emerged. She ran in horror to her father. He got in touch with friends in the Adair Clan. He wasn't going to let his Golden Girl grow up being hated. He faked her kidnaping and his death to take Saoirse to Dhemlan Kaeleer to get her Caste trained. He was able to steal half of the wealth in the manor to finance the journey and her education.

She and her father moved to the Sceltic Town (think china town) near Salamanca University. He enrolled her in classes as soon as private tutors prepared her for Dhemlan middle school. She also joined the Sceltic Coven in Exile, rather than a long-lived Dhemlan Coven. Ever since her father used the Adair Clan to rescue Saoirse he owed them and they regularly collect, items, information and hiding places. Saoirse gave them her whole hearted support. In Dhelman she became one of their runners and when was about 15 she was promoted to distraction. She also earned extra money posing for artists from the University and is famous for the 'Girl on a Swing' Painting.

Her Virgin Night was overseen by a Dhemlan law student, Renriko Montique. He intends to study Scelt Black-Widows and write a dissertation. He was and is a close friend of her father and has taken the role of her Escort.

Her Offering Ceremony granted her a glorious Rose and a special very expensive present from her father and Herian Adiar, a dark-jeweled leader of the Dhemlan Coven, who Crafted a trinket designed as a diamond attaching to Saoirse's eye tooth that hides the Black-Widow Caste's scent. This item creates a reflection of Vennessa Adair's Hearth-Witch scent and is powered off of Renriko's Green. It must be recharged monthly. Recharging takes 3 hours and drains Renriko's Jewel for a full 24 hours. The cost to Saoirse is three hours of excruciating pain (equal to the pain caused by the poison of a green Jeweled Black-Widow) The cost to Vennesa is needing to be within 1000ft of Saoirse. The trinket will loose focus and fixate on the nearest Summer-Sky to Purple Dusk blood and reflect that persons Caste onto Saoirse.

Eager to test it and to strengthen ties with the Adiar Clan she took Renriko, Vennessa and her father back to Scelt. The Adiar Clan had helped smuggle her out of Scelt and her father had been doing them little "favors" ever since. Saoirse made a fine distraction or smuggler herself and this trinket could be her ticket to a court. Her father was pessimistic and insisted on using an assumed name, McNair, to keep the McTiernian Clan from finding out. He didn't want to present Saoirse until he was sure her Caste was hidden.

Saoirse met Conleth Kerry, cousin to District Queen Taryn Kelly, and fell deeply, suddenly in love. Secure in the role of hearth-witch, Saoirse contemplated taking a consort and living quietly in the country. But the summer of bliss began to sour before Saoirse started having trouble with her illusions and other spells. She first attributed this to her heartbreak. Conleth had moved on and not talked to her for over a month. He wasn't even aware that he had broken her heart! She was ecstatic to discover she was pregnant, thinking Conketh might be drawn back to her side, but Conleth only wanted the child. It made her mad enough to deny wanting the child, goading him to promising full support. Her casual reference to Black Widow's brought a response that she interpreted as hostile, more venomous to Saoirse than Conleth would ever know. The hurt was deep. The discovery of Saoirse's Black-Widow Caste would be death for both mother and child.

The decision to keep the baby was dangerous. Any Craft she used would be fatal for the baby. Although her trinket would hide her Caste, it wouldn't kill the baby outright. It would be painful and leach strength from both of them. But she wouldn't give up this baby and it's tenuous link with Conleth. They fought constantly over trivial things the first few months as her physique distorted in pregnancy. The last few months she was bedridden and he didn't come around at all. It took all of Vennesa's Hearth-Craft and a visit from an outlawed Dhemlan healer, on loan from the Adair Clan, to keep the baby alive.

Both mother and child almost died during the birth. Vennessa wanted to get them a Scelt healer but Saoirse and her father refused. They compromised with the promise of returning to Dhemlan for healing but Caity was a sickly child who could not travel. When Conieth was presented with his daughter, he was delighted but refused to look at Saoirse. She glanced at herself in the mirror, she was no longer beautiful. Saoirse must abandon her daughter into Conleth's care so she could return to Dhemlan and heal. His insistence on paternity rights eased Saoirse mind. He wouldn't abandon the baby as he had her. As soon as Caity was weened, she was left in Conleth's care while Saoirse sought Healing in Dhemlan.

The depression she felt after the baby was born brought her to the brink of self-destruction. She grew pasty from lack of sun and gaunt from lack of food. Her hair was greasy and lank. It was not merely post-partum depression or her illness. In Scelt, she dared not raise the child herself, lest her Caste be discovered, and in Dhemlan Conleth would learn her secret and hate the child as he did the mother. There was no way Saoirse could keep the child with her, not and acknowledge the father.

Her father, in desperation, took two critical steps. He contacted her great-grandmother, who was delighted to hear that he had "found" Saoirse and agreed to keep their existence a secret from her mother and brothers until they had Saoirse in full health and returned to Scelt. The second was to squander what was left of the enormous amount of their stolen wealth enrolling her in Salamanca University. Her intelligence and drive allowed her to excel while re-evaluating her life goals.

Great-grandmother Aideen rallied Saoirse with a powerful psychic Thread, *Well my Golden Girl, are you going to let that simple Prince rob you of your daughter, your pride AND your looks?* Saoirse re-established contact with the Scelt Town Coven and the more active Adair Clan seaman. Seven years of learning, honing her body and research made her into the golden girl she had been. A bit more flamboyant, much more politically informed and a lot less trusting she was again her beautiful self.

The McTiernian Clan had attempted to steer clear of the Sheane/Killan Clan feud, but a set of disguised Sheane mercenaries (ostensibly acting without orders) raided the Manor house and Clan Keep, making off with wealth and injuring many people. They even carried off statues and oil paintings. Unable to fight them off, Saoirse's mother and brothers along with many of her Clan joined the Clan Laird and Clan Council on a trip to the Sheane Court to ask for support form the Sheane against the mercenaries. All but Aideen, who's failing health kept her home. Aideen called Saoirse back to Scelt when the Sapphire Witchstorm killed their family and most of their kin.

Before all of the death rites for her family were finished, Conleth called Saoirse to his side. It was not to reconcile, not even to offer his condolences; he had not guessed her real name. He called Saoirse to witness Caity's Birthright Ceremony and be declared her father. Saoirse  acknowledged his Paternity, as she had promised and been instructed to do by Aideen. Whether he knew her Clan or not, he was First Circle and cousin to Queen Taryn Kerry of Denford Province, a political tie the McTiernian Clan needed. So he was permitted to retain custody, for now. But not forever. A year of hard work and politics made her Lady of the Manor, 2nd highest ranking lady of her Clan and guardian of the dead Laird's surviving children.

She had learned the limitations of her trinket, that gives her a second layer of protection over her own skill at Caste Binding. Beyond even that, should she be discovered, she has a ruse. She has a ring that looks like an artificial fang. She claims that she dons it at the behest of her lover, a shameful and twisted sexual kink, no more. The fang leaves the subtle mark of a Black Widow on the wearer's aura for a while after it is removed, and works on everyone.

When her Great-grandmother had named her Lady of the Manor, the McTiernian lands became Saoirse's. The new Clan Laird will be officially recognized and presented to the Territory Queen as soon as he has his offering. Her Great-grandmother Aideen McTiernian, will present him as Clan Elder, but Saoirse is already planning to miss the official gathering. Too many dark jeweled will be there. Saoirse will remain guardian of the young man and his remaining siblings until then. They are staying with Saoirse at McTiernian Manor.

She had a full, University of Salamanca Education in her Craft and training in teaching it as well as other Craft. She works with Clan Adair contacts who are skilled in kidnapping, smuggling and faking deaths, and a Manor of her own in which to hide those things in transit both people and goods. Her Clan Adair contacts provide her with thugs at need, and while employing them for security during wild parties and raucous evenings on the town, they have other uses in the transport of Black-Widows and their items. Saoirse helps to train, hide and smuggle Black-Widows. She thinks it's time the Scelt Coven had a wake up call. She wants power for Black-Widows....and her daughter back. Dynastys can't be built without children.

    Show Us What You've Got:

Returning to McTiernian Manor was harder than Saoirse had imagined. The grounds were unkept, the topiaries were so over-grown Saoirse wondered if cutting them down and starting over would be more cost effective than re-shaping them. The west wing was intact, the bricks a bit moss-covered but not crumbling like the foyer. The East wing had lost a bit of roofing years ago it seemed. Inside the neglect was less notable, everything was clean and polished although thread-bare. Most of the art was gone. No statues, candelabras or tapestries. Just a few pictures, but none of the Masterpieces she remembered. Only a few pieces of furniture had escaped mourning trappings: a rocking chair, a side table and strait backed chair. Saoirse sank into the chair and leaned over to kiss her great-grandmother's cheek.

Lady Aideen stopped rocking and stroked Saoirse's hair. "My golden girl, you are back. Your child will be the leverage we need." The smell of bees wax and mold fought liniments and incense for dominance. The remaining Elder of the McTiernian Clan was frail but not yet senile. "I can't do....no I won't do any more."She stated "There's too many...too many dead..." Her voice wavered, she closed her eyes and rocked furiously.

The list of names was down to 109 condolences. A silver tray held the 43 Thank-you replies Saoirse had written and Aideen had signed. Almost 200 of her kin had died in that Sapphire Witch Storm and their deaths weighed on her. Replacing them was her problem now that she was Lady of the Manor. Trouble for the Clan but opportunity for Saoirse. So many clan positions were vacant. The living were reduced to the elderly, children and outcasts. Potential for a loyal clan base was there. Potential was all around her. The Manor could be repurposed. Her ambitions close to fruition.

But as it was now, this dreary depressing Manor was not the place to raise a child. Caity would have to stay with her father....for now.

I'm heading to bed as we speak (gotta love overnights) but I just have a couple things I'd like to PM Kookie about later regarding some details and mentions of Conleth. I'll happily give my blessing as the want ad creator once that's been sorted out :)
