Rarest rose, ever dared to bloom
« on: Mar 03, 19, 04:04:22 AM »
Locale: 191, Late Autumn. Draega, Hayll. After Numinicus Dinner Party.

Love, oh love, oh love ...
Still falls the rain (still falls the rain)!
Love, oh love, oh, love ...

Caelissine's awareness of where Jupiter was carrying her to was very limited in comparison to her generally tightly focused mental acuity. For once, the Warlord Prince had to truly take the lead and rescue her rather than the Priestess aiding in trying to refine his instincts and rage to a more positive and useful sort of edge. If she had been able to pay more attention than what was presently allotted, the woman might well have laughed at the irony. Instead, she twitched and whimpered, and thankfully the shields upon her hands and the rest of her body actually held.

The lady had that much awareness; she didn't remember every passing moment as to why she did not and insisted, as well as kept repeating that Jupiter couldn't touch her skin. Especially considering how very badly the urge rose to touch his, or her own, or a little of both. The soft sound of her prayers rose and fell in repetition occasionally, though most of the time she lay with her eyes closed and was very still save for the rapidly beating pulse and quickened breathing. Her fingernails pressed into her hands, and the jolts of pleasure she received from that small reprieve weren't enough. Anger and frustration rose only to turn to more desire. *The bodies, ah ... fucking Hellfire. Someone will need ... need ... need to move them. I am terribly sorry, so sorry. You cannot touch my skin, it's very important. I wanted to tell you why, but I cannot ...*

It was the third time she had tried to explain what was wrong to him but managed to tangle herself up in why he couldn't touch her and hated it, and her state was notable in part because the Priestess almost never used profane language. She licked her lips and her back arched, body near convulsing in reaction to something Caelissine couldn't fix. She laughed out loud suddenly, very softly, while trying to place where they had gone to next. Her mind felt fuzzy, like the inside of the soft robes used to tend to those greatly in need of a Priestess, as everyone that came before Mother Night and the Darkness was equal, regardless of whatever foolish airs any of them put on.

*Please, don't be ... don't be angry, Jupiter. I am fine, I will be fine ... I ...*

Again, she shivered, unable to finish yet another statement as her mind wandered, seeking an end or a beginning to what was happening. *Are you warm? It's so terribly warm ...* By the time they came to a pause in travel, at least, that was how it seemed to the Priestess, she'd started to pull hard at the beautiful garment worn for the dinner party. The sound of fabric tearing startled Caelissine, and the brush of it against her skin made her shiver again. She couldn't touch him ... right? Her shielded lips tried to reach Jupiter's face, but she ended up somewhere near his shoulder instead.

Jupiter carried Caelissine through the streets quickly, keeping alert for the path that lead to his destination. The cobblestones in this part of Draega weren’t as well maintained as the area they’d just left, but Jupiter didn’t fear being attacked here. He’d nearly killed several men for attacking him and Caelissine tonight, but he’d taken it easy on them despite the injuries they’d bear for the rest of their lives. Caelissine had moved him to mercy despite the poison in her veins. But Jupiter understood that, in this part of town, he wasn’t even close to the scariest thing walking the night. That distinction belonged to her.

It’s okay, Caelissine. It’s going to be okay. I promise. No, don’t talk. Don’t move. Just relax.” he said, refreshing his shield every few seconds to ensure that it didn’t break and expose him to whatever was on her skin. He wanted to go back and kill those bastards, but that meant leaving his Priestess to whatever fate she’d find at the hands of this vile toxin. He kept moving forward.

The door to Dream’s End Tavern was a solid wooden affair with a golden knob and four stained-glass panes. That door stood between him and the only person in Draega that might be capable of saving Caelissine tonight and ensuring that she felt no lasting ill effects. Jupiter carried Caelissine up the stone steps toward that door, noticing at the last moment the large “CLOSED” sign on the front. Jupiter snarled and reached for the Black Widow’s mind once more.

*Cassica! Where are you? I need your help! Caelissine--*

*With all respect due, Prince Cinerus, I heard you the first time. Come inside before you draw further attention.

Jupiter gently set Caelissine down on her feet, wrapping his arm around her waist. The door was unlocked and Jupiter pushed it open, guiding Caelissine inside. Witchlamps flared to life the moment they entered and Cassica stepped out of the back room, blue-eyed gaze flinty as she looked at the Warlord Prince and his lover. She came around the bar, noting that Caelissine wasn’t standing on her own and glared.

What happened?

We were attacked by a group of men. One of them poured something on her and she’s….something’s wrong, Cassica!

The Black Widow squinted and then snarled.

Get her to the back room and lay her on the cot right now!” Cassica ordered, turning back the way she came.

Jupiter picked up Caelissine once more and carried her to the backroom. He crossed the room quickly and then carried her inside the spartan room, laying the Priestess down on the cot with the scratch sheets that Jupiter hated. He pushed that thought out of his head and focused on Caelissine.

What is it? What did they give her?

I’m going to start charging one of these days.

When Jupiter’s initial thread reached her, Cassica in the midst of weaving a Tangled Web for insight on an issue that had been on her mind. Jupiter's panicked communication broke her focus and her mind was shunted back into her body and away from the Twisted Kingdom. Cassica snarled and vanished her spidersilk and weave, rising from her chair to dress. Her workshop was her sanctuary, but if Jupiter had called out to her then he was already on his way. She liked Jupiter but if this was anything other than life and death, she would educate him on the folly of treating her like his hired help.

As it turned, it was a matter of life and death.

Cassica reached out with her Craft as soon as they entered, searching for any sign of poisoning or being befouled by a web. She immediately noted the signs of safframate poisoning, but dosage was highly concentrated. That immediately ruled out a trust gone wrong between the Warlord Prince and the Priestess. The people that used this kind safframate, enhanced by Craft, weren’t people that Jupiter Cinerus associated with.

Jupiter brought her into the backroom while Cassica gathered her supplies. In a storeroom down the hall, the door opened of its own accord and several bottles began to move from the shelves and set themselves lightly onto a tea service cart that Cassica kept on her hand for times that she worked with patients inside the bar. Four different vials of liquid, ranging in color from dark blue to to pale green arranged themselves on the cart along with one of full of a brown powder and two others with various roots. Once the cart was filled, it rolled out of the storeroom and down the hall to the room where Jupiter had set Caelssine down the cot.

Jupiter, please bring us a pitcher of cool water. I’d appreciate it.

No, I need to stay here.

Prince Jupiter, I insist. The water will help her more than your brooding. She’s been dosed with concentrated safframate that’s been enhanced with Craft. I can counteract it, but I need water. Down the hall, third door on your right.” Cassica said, as the heavy metal basin rose up to place itself before Jupiter.

Jupiter growled, but the took the washbasin and headed off down the hall. Cassica looked to Caelissine.

Lady Agrippina, how did you manage this?” Cassica asked softly, more for herself than for any real answer from the Priestess.

Cassica called in a porcelain bowl and pestle as the various vials rose and uncorked themselves. She would not have much time to get this done before things went too far.

They were the kind of people that the Lady Caelissine's elder brother associated with, however, and for some time she had suspected as much, even if not to this degree. At the present moment, however, all the Priestess could think of was running her hands down Lady Cassica's face and pulling her close for a furious kiss.

Caelissine writhed and arched her back while biting back a laugh and trading it for the soft whisper of stubborn prayers to block her thoughts and raging desire. The sheets only made it more intense yet relieved some of the insistent need. She dragged her hands up and then down her thighs before blinking and realizing the Black Widow's question remained to hover in the air, unanswered.

The Priestess halted her softly whispered prayers and offered a reply. "It was a liquid thrown upon me when I ... I ... released my shields to trick them." She rolled over on to her belly and then upon her back directly afterward, staring as Jupiter departed her field of vision. The sound of his growl made her hips jerk, while Caelissine's wide golden eyes fell to Cassica's lips. She had by no means forgotten his presence but did not think it wise to protest the Warlord Prince's departure even if it was what was wanted. Her skin burned with their arrival and it burned even more now and did so further by the seconds that passed.

Stay, stay, stay ... please stay.

Her gentle, slender hands twisted in the sheets, hands that had tended faithfully to so many without complaint or question as needed and called for. "It almost worked, but I was ... too slow," she explained softly while biting her lower lip and a smile twitched the Priestess' lips up. She seemed almost perfectly fine until a gasp spilled from her while Caelissine arched upward. Dragging the lengths of her midnight hair over one shoulder, she bowed her head toward Cassica. "Let me kiss you, please. May I taste your lips?" Her pupils had almost entirely dilated, almost eclipsing the gold of the Priestess' eyes. There was part of her that understood the question was completely nonsensical, but she had to ask. Craved and needed to know even as she fought what had been done to her. Desire pounded in her heart and mind, but something deeper fought it, whispering, warning of a wrongness despite the temptation of beauty.

Not like this, said that inner voice, until it was quiet and nearly impossible to hear.

"Please?" The longer she stared at Cassica, the more ferocious Caelissine's eyes grew. It appeared that some of the additions to the enhanced safframate dragged at the delicate spiritual layers of the Priestess' mind and her inhibitions. As Cassica worked or resisted Caelissine's charms, whichever it might be, the Priestess' ability to resist was scraping away from her a little at a time even as she listened for the sounds of Jupiter's return. Her pulse rose in speed while she tugged at the laces of her gown to bare one golden brown shoulder.

Cassica’s hands worked, mortar and pestle grinding the root while she watched Caelissine writhe and arch on the cot. Cassica’s gaze on the Priestess was not purely clinical, for all she worked to save the younger woman from the enhanced safframate coursing through her veins. Cassica ground the root into a fine powder, even as she invisible hands grasped a vial of dark blue liquid and added exactly two drops to the mixture to soften it. Jupiter had not returned so it fell to Cassica to keep her guest occupied.

Caelissine whispered prayers to distract herself. Cassica focused on those prayers as she reached into her Summer Sky to assist her pestle’s grinding. The remaining liquids were added to the mixture as smoothly and easily as if Casica had six extra arms helping her prepare the broth necessary to counteract the concoction that Jupiter’s priestess had been hit with. Of course they were in a fight with several men. She wanted to smack Jupiter in his thick skull. The Warlord Prince had never, to her knowledge, encountered a fight that he did not want to take part in. Cassica knew the thought was unfair, but she had it and then let it pass.

She didn’t bother feeling bad for the men they’d fought. If Jupiter left anything to send home to their families, then the Darkness had favored them beyond words.

"Let me kiss you, please. May I taste your lips?"

Caelissine’s words brought a small, rueful smile to Cassica’s face. Two millennia ago, she was much like the lady who lay before her. Salome’s favorite thing to bring to the bedroom was safframate, sometimes enhanced to give it a little bit of a kick, as she called it. Troius loved fucking them both while he was on it. Cassica never minded whenever she was riding a high and trapped between the two of them. Her head tilted at the other woman’s request, at the craving in her voice. Had she and Jupiter ever….?

You flatter me, Lady Caelissine, with your request. Had you and I met before you and Jupiter, I’d honor you. But we did not. I like you and it’s more important to me to maintain your dignity than to indulge my curiosity. Or risk our Jupiter’s wrath.” Cassica whispered, using a brush of her Tiger Eye to heat the mixture within the mortar. She had to get this just right or the poor woman would be extremely unhappy in a few seconds. She had to get this right, though, as so she resisted the other woman’s continued entreaties despite the deep and heady scent of her arousal. She looked up, briefly, to find Caelissine tugging impatiently at the laces of her own dress.

Mother Night, your temptations are many and cruel.” Cassica murmured.

*Jupiter, it’s ready! I need you to come back before your lover destroys this lovely, and probably very expensive, dress!*

Jupiter had taken the basin for the water with great reluctance and some deep annoyance. He didn’t need to be gathering water. He needed to be tending to Cassica. He needed to make sure that she wouldn’t die from the safframate poisoning. Once he knew that she would be well, however, he wanted to go back and find the men who attacked them. Find them all, one by one, and pull out their lungs through the smaller orifices in their bodies. He imagined Blood Opal Warlord Prince screaming in terror as Jupiter slowly removed those lungs through his nostrils, or slowly clawing an eyeball from of the other men.

But first, he’d check them for anymore of their dirty little poison and use it on them so that they understood the horror they were going to visit on his lover. Then he’d find the one who made it for them and kill them for peddling it. He hoped that they were with the Coven, because Jupiter had a lot that he wanted to say to the leader of the Hourglass Coven with his Dominion in hand.

The basin whined in protest beneath his iron grip. A layer of ice had formed on the floor beneath his feet. Jupiter forced himself to breathe, in through his nose and out through his mouth. Mother had suggested the technique when he was young help him leash his anger. He was the master, not the cold rage. He needed to get himself under control. Cassica and Caelissine were counting on him. Sabine was also counting on him to be under control when they next saw each other. The thought of his Queen proved comforting, though Jupiter couldn’t say why.

He was grateful that she wasn’t here to witness all of this. He didn’t know how she’d take Caelissine. He suspected that Sabine and Cassica wouldn’t get on well at all.

It took several minutes, but Jupiter was eventually able to string together a few thoughts that didn’t include mutilation of the men who attacked them.

He filled the small basin with water. Cassica had sent him out of the room for his own benefit, and for Caelissine. He wouldn’t think less of the Priestess for what had happened, but she was more vulnerable than he’d ever seen her. Having her own body turned against her like this was a humbling experience. If their roles were reversed, Jupiter would feel the same. He wanted the people in his life to see him as a powerful man, in control of himself at all times. He’d been anything but in his younger years, so he had a lot to make up for.

The water basin filled quickly and quietly. He’d just turned off the water when Cassica’s thread reached him.

*Jupiter, it’s ready! I need you to come back before your lover destroys this lovely, and probably very expensive, dress!*

He headed for Cassica’s workroom, water in hand.

He arrived to find Caelissine pulling at her dress and Cassica steadfastly working on what he hoped was a cure. Jupiter quickly set down the basin on the floor nearby and looked to Cassica.

I need you to steady her. This broth is ready, but it’s warm and we need to make sure she drinks all of it.” she said.

There's no other way?

Cassica looked at him like he had sprouted two extra head upon asking that question. “There is, but I picked the most difficult one so that I could watch her suffer while I angled for a threesome. No, there is no other way! Now hold her steady so that I can help her!” Cassica snarled.

Jupiter moved around to the head of the cot near Caelissine’s head. He had to steel himself against the scent of her need, deep and powerful, mixed in with the scent of fresh rain that he loved so much. “It’ll be okay, Caelissine. It’s going to be okay.” he whispered, trying to sound reassuring.

Cassica’s made something for you. She’s the best cook I know. You’ll like it.

No, she won’t.” Cassica corrected him as invisible hands held up the bowl and brought it close to the other woman’s lips. “In fact, she’s going to hate every second of this and probably not want to fuck ever again. You can't see it, but I'm mourning the death of your sex life.

"Pay her no mind, love. Cassica's humor runs a bit dark."

"If only I was trying to be funny right now.

Jupiter held Caelissine by the shoulders and pray the that bowl of...yellow-green broth tasted better than it smelled. It smelled like swamp water that had been left to its own devices for a few centuries.

Together, they brought the contents of the bowl to Caelissine’s lips.

"Drink, my lady. Drink. All of it. Every drop..." Cassica murmured.

The sound of tearing fabric was loud in the room at least to Caelissine and the substance that the Lady Casica wished her to imbibe made her burn just to look at it. She let out a frightening shriek at the first touch of the liquid to her lips. It was like cold fire, both hot and cold at once. She knew however that it was not only necessary but that not doing something would kill her. Caelissine could feel it as if one door was closing and the other was the only path open to her. If there was one reason to do as a Black Widow told you, to save your own life would have been it. So she wept as she swallowed down every drop, occasionally choking for the blinding pain.

She'd passed out, afterward, but the remains of the Craft and safframate in her skin had lifted off like a shimmering veil in the air before harmlessly dissipating into harmless Craft energies. The Priestess, of course, did not witness any of this detail. It was Jupiter and the rapidly acting and very clever Lady Casica that might have seen exactly how much Craft had been poured into the creation that was spilled purposefully on Caelissine. Casica would have been able to collect its remains if she were fast for study.

The secondary component that caused the strangeness of Caelissine's reaction was this: three entire flakes of refined witchblood, of which most people could only handle one if they dealt in poisons. Three drops of a Black Widow's venom, blended with enriched safframate. As an enhancement tool, it was on the level of creation, perfect. But Darkness help the soul that had it placed on their skin by a magnifier of seven, as Caelissine had. Of course, the Priestess herself would have known none of this.

She licked her lips, unaware that it had been about an hour and thirty minutes since she'd drank the last of the attempted curative, but four more hours before they had arrived to begin with. Then, she could see the outline of Craft shimmering in the air that was in the shape of the two people that had been in the room with her what had felt like moments before. Caelissine let out a soft cough; her throat felt as though she had screamed afterward, but she couldn't be sure.

Clearing her eyes the best she could, she made the attempt to sit upward, skin feeling like it was on fire still, but not quite enough to be worried, she hoped. So much for a lovely evening out. Then her fingers skimmed her bare arm and she let out a shriek of shock and surprise when the fabric from her own clothing had the Priestess' body arched with her face pointed toward the ceiling from a pair of brushes along the skin of her legs. It was indescribable; both pleasure and abject pain in a loop of feedback. She continued to shiver with movement, and then let out a very bitter laugh.

The Priestess had never been one to use profane language on any particular ordinary basis, and she didn't intend to alter that tendency from a small setback. "... So I am apparently alive. Now what?"Her low, normally saturnine voice was raspy and exhausted. While aware that her jest was absolutely in poor taste, it was the most she could to censor herself and what she really wanted to say this time around. "I do not think prayer is going to fix whatever this is I am stuck with, as ironic as that might be." She recalled after a moment attempting to convince Casica to bed her, and the woman's cheeks turned a brilliant red. It hadn't been something she had ever considered on the surface of her thoughts, but to deny the interest would have now made her look a complete fool. As such, rather than say a single word about desire, the lady decided it might be wiser to wholly bite her tongue in this instance unless the Black Widow noted the topic first.

I could absolutely melt into the floor right now and perhaps I could then feel very little of anything, Caelissine thought to herself. Then she found herself looking for Jupiter almost immediately. Legs swinging off down toward the floor, the Priestess attempted to stand up, but the second she settled a foot on upon the floor she pulled it back, then immediately jumped because of the overstimulation from the continued movement of her gown. "This is a little of a problem," she noted, still trying for a smile.

Cassica relied on Jupiter to keep Caelissine still whilst they worked to save her life. The Black Widow had seen this kind of safframate poisoning (a violation in and of itself) in the past, and only in the Courts of some very nasty people that her mentor, Salome, used to keep in company. The Priestess was too gentle a soul to be treated like this, but she wondered if the fools responsible had known she was connected to Prince Cinerus...and whom he was connected to in turn. This entire situation had the potential to become a bloodbath if allowed Jupiter to act on the rage building inside of him. Focusing his desire to protect and serve on his lover was an excellent way to keep people alive in the short-term, but Caelissine would eventually heal from this.

On that day, Jupiter would set Hayll aflame looking for the perpetrators. He would do it and it would cost him his life. Cassica had no love for his bitch of a Queen, but she liked Caelissine immensely.

I am a hopelessly romantic fool.

Once the Priestess had finished the curative and began resting, Cassica balanced her study of the poison with her attempts to calm Jupiter down while not being torn to bloody ribbons by him. Cassica rued her ill luck; she could think of at least twelve ways to be trapped between these two lovebirds that were so much more enjoyable than this madness.

You do realize that she won’t wake any faster if you wear a hole in my floor?” Cassica asked. If he was annoyed at her, he wouldn’t be halfway out the door to chase down whoever did this to them. It was a worthwhile trade.

Jupiter stopped pacing, but he didn’t stop moving. “How long until she wakes?

She’ll wake when she’s ready. Every nerve in her body was turned up to the highest level, then a little beyond that. Think about that for a moment. Those silk sheets you love so much? Imagine if you could feel every, single thread on them...and every one of those soft silk threads felt like a hot knife slicing through your skin. Now multiply that by ten. Take that feeling and double it. Now imagine that feeling going on for a single minute. She’s been that way for nearly five hours.” Cassica said.

Jupiter’s expression was grim. He adjusted his cufflinks, a telltale sign that he was close to violence just from the thought of what had been inflicted upon his Priestess.

When she wakes, she'll still be out of sorts. I advise strongly against trying to hug her or touch her until she’s ready. Even then she may not be ready. It’ll take time for her to heal. But she’ll need care and supervision. She’s going to have a difficult time with sensations for a bit.” Cassica said.

They remained there in silence until Caelissine stirred and then cried out from the feeling fabric against her skin. All told, Cassica thought the poor woman would be less than cheerful. That she managed to joke earned a smile from the Black Widow. That smile was balanced by the hard set of Jupiter’s chiseled jaw. He moved forward to reach for her and abruptly stopped, remembering Cassica’s warning regarding her senses.

Yes, you’re going to have some difficulty for a bit, Lady Caelissine. The feeling should dull over time, but I can’t guarantee that the way you process sensations will wholly settle. Safframate is popular, after all, because it enhances the senses. Most people who use it willingly have difficulty...enjoying things without it. You were drugged with a dosage far beyond what most use for recreational purposes.” Cassica said.

Removing your clothing might make things easier. Personally, I think that saving someone’s life or sleeping with them makes us all friends. But I also like all of my limbs attached to my body and in working order so….I’ll leave you and Jupiter to talk this out. You both could use something to eat.” she said, rising from her seat.

Cassica...thank you.” Jupiter said gently, looking to her.

Of course.

Cassica turned to go, but she brushed against the outer barrier of Caelissine’s mind.

*If you'd like to be trapped between the two of us, you should tell him so. Perhaps when you’re better...*

She exited the room without finishing her sentence.

Caelissine knew she could have taken the attack much worse. Because that's precisely what it had been. An attack upon her person both physically, and spiritually. As well as with Craft. She could have died. All of those were thoughts that the woman considered with a briefly sorrowed expression. However, because of Jupiter's quick thinking and Lady Cassica's skill she survived, and would eventually be all right.

Even if that meant having a far, far deepened sensitivity to being touched, the Priestess thought that it was a very small price to pay instead of a tortured death. As the Black Widow moved to leave the room, Caelissine's golden eyes went wide and she blushed even more deeply than had been present seconds before. Not one that was very skilled at hiding her reactions, her expressive and attentive eyes darted rapid-fire between Jupiter and Cassica before the smallest, hesitant and warm smile slowly formed upon her face.

*We will speak, I hope. When I am better. You saved my life and for that alone, I would want to get to know you, Lady Cassica. Though not just for the sake of Jupiter. I would never want any woman to question why she is spoken to or danced attendance on. Until next time, beautiful lady, thank you.*

Once Cassica was gone, however, she turned her attention to Jupiter. None of this would have been easy for him, Caelissine was intensely aware. She lifted her hands, palms up. "It won't be easy learning to handle any kind of touches at all with this ... difficulty. But surely you realize there is no one else I would wish to help me? Even if it means we cannot ... be together sensually as we were for a while? I would want you to be safe, in my presence. So, please, I ask you to know and understand this. Take whatever partners you need in both a sensual and emotional sense. That is important to me even above my desires. Your safety, and health. It does not matter what I can or cannot do."

Taking a deep breath, Caelissine lifted her chin just a little, with a confidence she didn't entirely feel but was, the woman decided, certainly a work in progress. "What is more, I forgive them. The ones that were responsible for this horror done to me. But I will not forget and if any should choose to move against me with a similar aim, I will see them punished to the full extent that Blood Law allows me, including death. Do not hunt ... yet. We will play the long game here." Her lips twitched, aware she had said quite a lot and implied, even more, some of which would be damnably difficult for a Green Jewelled Warlord Prince to be able to suffer through. However, Caelissine's parents had both been very skilled politicians and while she didn't care for playing that game, when she chose to, the Priestess was very good at it and it showed in her wry and calculatingly patient expression.

"I suspect it has to sound odd to you, my thoughts, and I would never, ever tell you not to be angry. However, that anger, that focus, you can channel it and learn something new about us both. I prefer to think of the fact that I have survived and that I will continue to do so. Would you touch me? Place your palms to mine? Maybe ... think of the way you might touch a very delicate, ancient silk. We wouldn't want to tear it," Caelssine said with a patient smile as she sighed and swallowed due to the slide of her own clothing down her arm. For several moments she paused to catch her breath. However, she never looked away from Jupiter, pulse beating fairly quickly. "I am that silk. All over. This is no more difficult than spiralling through the Darkness with me, which you have done before, remember?"

The brush of her hair down her back caused the Priestess to shiver visibly. She closed her eyes. "I will not be able to work, for a while. In the morning, could you speak to the highest-ranking Priestess or even a Priest that you can find? I think that is the p-part that makes me sad, that I won't be able to perform my function, my purpose." Caelissine shook her head as a single tear slid down her face. "If you are willing, however, I could with you, eventually and just maybe I won't go insane. My charities, the orphanages. I--" she shook her head again.

"Actually, never mind all of that for now. The one thing I do not want is for you to ever be afraid or wary of touching me." Her gaze was firm, resolute, like granite. "For the moment, however, I have talked enough. Your turn." With every thump of her pulse, there was one thing that hadn't changed from what she'd realized in the seconds before they'd been set upon with violence. Caelissine was utterly, completely, and absolutely in love with Prince Jupiter Cinerus. That awareness and feeling spread warmly, tenderly through her senses as a startling, pleasant surprise, though the Priestess kept the words to herself. She suspected if she said it here and now, he'd raze half of Draega to make a point. The thought very nearly made the Priestess laugh again for the second time since she'd woken. It was as good a start as anyone could hope for, and perhaps far better.
