Personality

Personality:

Luna has no time for the ethereal or otherworldly.  She doesn't care about your broken Chalice, nor does she care about the ephemeral future.  She has no intention of ever seeking answers from the Twisted Kingdom.  Fuck that place.  Luna’s primary concern is right here, right now.  In Dena Nehele the immediacy of life and death wore away at any of her desire to peek into the future further than her own natural sense of probability, and she had enough of her own problems without peeping into the minds of others to handle theirs.  This only became truer when she found herself working her way into the Territory’s criminal elite.  Luna has always been goal-oriented, and from the start, that goal was wealth.  She grew up poor, and she intends to die very rich.  She knows she can't take it with her, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want as much as possible, like a dragon sitting on a hoard.

Her life began on the streets.  If she hadn’t come away with a Sapphire Birthright, Luna doubts that she would have been so quickly found and recruited into the Myos.  Her father was murdered by people he trusted, all for his stake in an underworld business, and her mother, attempting to avenge him, failed.  Luna learned early to be careful about who she trusted if she trusted anyone at all.  She does her best to seem friendly, to earn the trust of others, while very carefully parceling out her own.  Sadly, she is always watching for the knife in the back, and this makes her slow to make friends, even with colleagues.  Luna knows that she is attractive, and takes advantage of that as often as possible, knowing that both men and women can be susceptible to such.  If she’s honest, she can be as well, but she believes her suspicious nature, and her Dark Jewel should keep her out of the worst of trouble.

Luna is a Dark Jeweled Black Widow, with her Offering being an uncut Gray, she is very aware of her moods as well as her needs, and knows that they can turn or even reverse sharply from one moment to the next.  She makes no apologies for this.  She is, what she is.  She is typically operating at an even keel, so long as nothing challenges her in an unexpected fashion.  She does not look to the Tangled Webs for answers, but she considers herself a good judge of people, and when she is surprised, she often reacts poorly--violence is typically not her fall back position, though she is a trained Myos, so it is more than possible.  Luna tends to disengage, but whatever means necessary and will default to Craft, such as shields and an ‘enhanced’ exit, poison, and then violence if her first options do not work out.  Her temper is noticeable, though she does not raise her voice, her words become sharper, and she seems unable to sit still, pacing in her agitation.

Under normal circumstances, the sensuality of the Black Widow in Luna translates into a deep appreciation for touch, and personal indulgence.  Luna does not simply bathe, for example, she luxuriates in the tub, bubbles or scents or even flower petals are often involved.  She takes care of herself, whether she does so personally, with zero tolerance for being hurried, or whether she goes to a Red Moon House to enjoy a full spa treatment.  Her clothes, whether they are practical or for display, are always of the finest make, and always comfortable and pleasant to her sense of touch.  She would, in all honesty, prefer to be nude and warm, and does so as often as possible.  Saunas are heavenly, the enormous baths of Hayll, a thing to be copied and brought home.  Discomfort, of any kind, is not for her, and she will become annoyed if she must endure any.  Cold weather, rough fabrics, and an inability to satisfy her own sense of personal grooming all conspire to annoy her, and annoyance is a shortcut to potential anger.

Likes:
  • 1 A Hot Bath; not just a bath, but a bath and all possible additions.  Candles, scents, the larger the bath, the better, help is not unwelcome, and the hotter the water the better.  A hot bath is a luxury she did not used to have, and there is something soothing about the heat soaking into her bones.  As a Black Widow, she is always on the precipice of irritation, and by and large she has a grip on her moods—as much as a Gray Black Widow can—but a bath goes a long way to improving that sense of control.
  • 2 Wealth; cash, coin, money, expensive art, gemstones, anything that one can trade for goods and services and lots of them. This is the pragmatist in Luna, the one that distrusts social status and government issued coinage.  She will collect what she can, from any source, but she has far mor faith in the art and gemstones and goods, things that can trade anywhere than she does in coins stamped with anyone’s face on them.
  • 3 Sensation; Luna luxuriates in her senses.  She is particularly aware of the way fabric lies against her skin, for example, and typically chooses soft and smooth textures.  She enjoys having her hair cared for, brushed and washed, or simply when someone runs their fingers through it.  She even enjoys the way her own hair can tickle against her skin.  This is the Black Widow enjoying not only the sensual but craving it.  She would prefer if the source were external, such as finely made clothes, someone to brush her hair, but she can self-soothe if she must—though it is far less effective when she does so.  Touch for Blood is meaningful, for Luna it is exceedingly important for her balance and peace of mind.
Dislikes:
  • 1 Being Uncomfortable; Luna was pulled from a life that left her with little.  Cold showers, leftover food, if she was lucky, and stolen or hand-me-down clothes.  She has worked to overcome all of that and intensely dislikes being forced back into those conditions, no matter the reasons.
  • 2 Assumptions; Luna considers herself a unique individual, whether she is or not is more accurately for others to decide, but the point is, that she believes this to be true.  Someone can underestimate her at their peril, that does not bother her, what bothers her is assumptions about who or what she is.  She’s a Dark Jeweled Black Widow, so she must be one part danger and two parts, nympho.  She’s an attractive woman, so she must enjoy being pursued.  She’s a female, so she’s a delicate flower, despite the snake-tooth that could kill most.  Even if the assumption is accurately, or partly accurate, she dislikes knowing they’ve been made, and knowing it, may act in opposition to such out of spite.
  • 3 Warlord Princes; Like Queens, but for different reasons, Warlord Princes get a pass.  A Queen is the penultimate Female Caste, it is like being born with a golden spoon.  Even if a Queen is born in poverty, they will rise from their station simply because they are a Queen.  A Warlord Prince might not have it that easy, but they get a pass in Blood Society.  A properly trained Warlord Prince is still seen as a potentially ticking bomb, absolving them of any real personal responsibility.  A Black Widow can be as volatile, and yet more is expected of them.  She has to be careful not to scratch someone, all a Warlord Prince has to do is fuck responsibly.

    Fears:
  • 1 A return to ‘Dark Days’; When the Aristos ran the Territory, Queens were murdered, kidnapped, and traded like playing cards.  She’s not a fan of Queens, but she’s a fan of seeing them murdered even less.  She’s also not a fan of Aristos being in charge and keeping the poor even poorer and taking advantage of the Landen everyone relies on.  She doubts she could have been successful under the old regime, and fears that success will slip away if the Territory regresses.  A common born Black Widow essentially enmeshed in the criminal underground and raised up to be a Myos assassin would have far fewer options in a world that the wealthy and deeply entitled Blood ran.
  • 2 The Darkest Jeweled; There are times when Luna surprises herself with the depth and Darkness of her power. She has not truly been tested to the depths of her Gray, and while her Shadow can be absolutely draining, that is something she willfully engages in, not something she is forced to do.  She is aware of Ebon Grays, at least one for certain, but a Gray is not so terribly distant that she stands no chance at all.  But a Black?  One that has proven to be able to break many in one sweep, Dark and Light alike, that is something truly frightening.
  • 3 Yet Another Disaster; Not just another Decimation, but the Territory also recently enjoyed an attack by the Jhinka while attempting to make a peaceful agreement with THE BLOODY FUCKING EYRIENS.  There’s even talk that an Eyrien is in The Territory Court.  How much disaster does Dena Nehele have to invite before something far more disastrous occurs?  The Decimation hurt everyone, but the Territory survives and persists because of a balance of powers, what happens next could destroy that balance, and the rest of the place topple like dominos in a child’s game.  How much can one place endure in so short a time?  Luna does not want to find out.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Poisons: Designing & Crafting; Luna is particularly skilled in the design of poisons that mimic psychic effects.  She can, for example, create a ‘toxin’ that can strip away a target’s internal psychic control and send them tumbling into a kind of fugue state.  The Darker the Jewels of the victim, the longer this poison takes to act, with light Jewels being at far greater risk.
  • 2 Shadow Building; Luna is capable of creating remotely controlled illusions of excellent detail.  The fact that she can and does control them directly, even from a distance, makes them extremely effective in purpose and deception.  She can answer questions through them, hold a conversation, and animate it realistically. However, the Shadow is not real, and therefor cannot be touched, nor can it touch anyone. It is also tiring to operate at a distance, even for her Gray, so she does so sparingly, preferring the 'recorded' option whenever possible.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Tangled Webs;  Luna has no talent for in-depth prognostication.  She does not look into the Tangled Webs for answers, and she has seen more than one Black Widow become lost in that space.  As a Black Widow, the Twisted Kingdom is always a risk, it touches her anyway, and it can’t be avoided, but she certainly doesn’t have to go looking for trouble and can’t.
  • 2 Mind Healing; As a Black Widow, Luna came to her Caste training during her time training with the Myos.  Mind Healing was not a concern, and truth be told, Luna was singularly uninterested.  She went where her talents guided her, and not only is she untrained in this art, she has no interest and thus cannot perform this function.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Hepzibah Rasputin -:- Blood Female -:- No Descent -:- Born 148 AP
Father: Abel Troika -:- Warlord -:- White to Tiger Eye -:- Born 146 AP
Siblings:

History:

Violetta Rasputin was born to poor people in a poor neighborhood.  Her mother was a Blood female, poor and pretty, and her father a simple Warlord.  As far as Luna is aware, they even loved each other, but they were poor and struggling.  Abel, her father, was a hard-working man, but also a gambling man.  Hepzibah, her mother, was excellent with numbers and had rudimentary training as a hearth witch, hoping for a Descent that never came.  The family struggled to make ends meet, as many did.  To make matters worse, Abel’s gambling put him in debt to the sort of people you don’t want to be in debt to.  In order to offset his debt, he began to engage in various questionable undertakings.  The gambling, however, never stopped.  Strange men, and occasionally women, began to come to the house either to visit Abel or to pick him up for a job--whatever that job was.

Blood Law allows a fair bit of latitude with regards to actual crime, that is until one is caught.  Violetta’’s father’s crew ran afoul of the Jacks.  A fight broke out, people died, but Abel managed to get away--but was identified.  As it turned out, one of the dead Guildsman was also a member of a District Court, albeit Fourth Circle, however, this did not keep that Court from demanding a price of the only person identified from Abel’s crew, Abel himself.  He was going to be collected to bear witness and have a Price laid against him, but the night before he was summoned, his so-called ‘friends’ burst into his small home and dragged him away to murder him in an alley.  They were certain that Abel was just going to throw them all into the fire, and so they killed him before he could.

Hepzibah tried to intervene, and was smacked around for her trouble, left lying amidst the debris of a shattered table while Violetta, only a child, stood by and watched crying her eyes out.  It was the last time Violetta remembers crying as a child.  For about a month, things were tragic but quiet.  The Conclave had extended kindness and performed a service for Abel, cremating the body, and giving an urn to Hepzibah.  In her anger, Violetta’s mother dumped the remains into the gutter on a rainy day and watched the ashes drain away.  She was angry at Abel’s gambling, his crimes, his death, and his irresponsibility, leaving her to raise their daughter alone.  They had always just barely made ends meet, but without the money, her husband managed to get together, Hepzibah struggled.  Violetta often accompanied her mother to work, exposing her occasionally to the aristos that hired her.  It left her with a bad impression.

Violetta was tutored by the Priestess of a nearby temple.  Hepzibah had worked out a bargain.  In exchange for cleaning and upkeep of the temple, Violetta could stay there with the Priestess when she had to work, a few days out of the week.  It was like this for a few months, until a member of Abel’s old crew remembered that he had a pretty wife and that she must be in need of cash.  One of the men that killed her father burst into their home one evening.  Hepzibah sent Violetta running to The Temple, but the little girl, still a year shy of her Birthright, did not like what she saw in the man that had shoved his way into their home.  Uncertain why, instead of running to the temple and staying there, she ran only a little way down the same alley her father had been murdered in.  She worked a loose nail she had seen days past out of the wood of a set of stairs and ran back home, the nail held in her hand like a stiletto.  In Violetta’s small hand, the ten-inch nail felt like a weapon.

She burst back into her house in a scene that Violetta would remember for the rest of her life.  Hepzibah was battered and lying on the floor, her clothes torn, and the man who had helped murder her husband was rising from her as he threw coins on the floor.  Violetta only took a breath to see what had happened, before she ran at him, running up an armchair to leap upon his back.  She drove the nail repeatedly into the side of his neck.  He screamed, floundered, pulled a knife, and flung the child across the room where she, fortunately, hit their old couch.  Hepzibah leaped upon the man, her own anger and fear driving her forward, and in his death throes, he fatally stabbed Violetta’s mother.  The man fell to his knees and eventually died from blood loss, sagging and by appearance, just falling asleep never to wake again.  Hepzibah had a dagger in her heart, Violetta could see it twitch with every beat of her mother’s heart until it stopped twitching.

In time, Violetta found her way in the rainy wee hours to the temple and fell into the Priestess’ arms covered in blood.

The Priestess took her in, even as word spread of the deaths.  Rumors grow swiftly in downtrodden neighborhoods.  A few months later, Violetta underwent her Birthright and came away with a cut Sapphire.  It was then that someone came to the temple for her, a woman that whispered quietly with the Priestess, before seeing Violetta.  She was offered a chance at a new life, a chance to never ever be taken advantage of again.  She could not get her parents back, but she would never again be poor, and never again be at the mercy of random fate.  Violetta joined the Myos that night, realizing many years later that by doing so, the Priestess who had always been so kind to her, would also die.  Anyone that truly knew her was gone, and Violetta would find herself a new identity at Celalalt Loc, often called ‘The Farm’ by those that have graduated from its lessons.

Violetta took well to her training at The Farm, becoming a promising student in a few years’ time.  She developed a preference for stilettos in personal combat, long and slender blades, and a bow for ranged when necessary.  Like everyone else, she learned stealth techniques, mundane and Craft-based, and engaged in intensive regular exercise.  Every night she slept in a warm bed, and every day she ate as many meals as she wanted, to feed her Sapphire.  She was never cold, unless that was the point of the exercise, and almost never went hungry, save for where that was the point of a given lesson.  It was during an intense sparring session that her mentors realized she was more than just a Sapphire witch.  Her snake-tooth had come in, and what was taken for violent mood swings was swiftly understood when a peer student died from an unexpected scratch.

She did not get a break because of this.  Instead, in addition to her Myos training, she began to undertake Black Widow training as well.  Her Black Widow mentor was an old woman, in her sixties, with a career of assassination behind her.  Violetta knew her only as Banshee.  It was Banshee that made careful arrangements for Violetta’s Virgin Night.  Vee, as she was often called at The Farm, had grown into a lovely young woman, and sooner or later her nature was going to get her into a situation that put her at risk.  Her Virgin Night was performed by a Red-Jeweled Guildsman, and once that was done, not long afterward, Violetta undertook her Offering, Banshee, and a Myos Priestess were both present, and the young woman came away with an uncut Gray.  After this, the balance of her training shifted to nearly a fifty-fifty scale, until she was deemed eligible for Journeyman status, at which point she fell beneath Banshee’s shawl for further education.

Banshee had a solid cover that ran between Dena Nehele and into Terminus, the city over the border in Hayll.  She was known in the underworld simply as Baba, or ‘Grandmother’, and she had built a shadow business based on smuggling and the sale of various recreational substances.  She was known in those circles as a major player, and it allowed the Myos to keep tabs on criminal activities for the purpose of recruiting and for additional action as needed.  It was how the Myos had learned of Violetta in the first place.  Banshee showed Violetta the ropes, introducing her to the organization as her daughter, under the name Vee, or occasionally, Sister Vee.  This was how she was introduced to Tybalt Kem, a Jacks Master better known as Bats.

Bats had a business relationship with ‘Grandmother’, relying on her for certain goods, but also keeping tabs--at a cost--on the slave trade in Dena Nehele.  It was a relationship that Vee began to inherit while working with ‘Grandmother’.  Banshee had discussed the options with the Myos Journeyman, Violetta had to establish a cover and Banshee had one that she could not pursue forever.  No Myos ever really retired, but she could leave her ‘day job’, and let Violetta take over the reins.  Violetta earned the name Luna under Banshee’s care when she was seen using her Craft to create the illusion of a very large moth to use as a delivery method for poison.  She was Luna from that point forward, rarely referring to herself as Violetta in her own mind.  Vee was just another disguise for the Myos, her criminal career, under ‘Grandmother’ was just a cover.

Tybalt Kem was drawn in by Vee’s beauty but impressed by her illusions and her fighting skills.  She was hired as security for the Belfry, a job that allowed her to make several of the right kind of contacts and still be involved with Banshee’s undercover criminal enterprise.  Tybalt was Vee’s first relationship under her time as Myos, and for her, served as something of a test.  She had to lie regularly to Bats, and pretend to be someone she was not, even as she took on her Journeyman contracts.  She ultimately quit The Belfry, and parted with Tybalt amicably, as he was also a business partner, and charming enough that it was difficult not to like him.  Luna quit to take on what would become her final Journeyman contract, and strangely, it was one dead dropped to her, not filtered through Banshee.  She quickly learned why; her target was a Male associate of Banshee herself, a man that lived in Terminus, and helped her to run her shadowy business affairs.

Luna had to find this man, Appollonius, in Terminus, a city located over the border in Hayll.  Apparently, this man, called Apollo by most, had made an enemy out of someone with enough clout or wealth to contract a Myos.  Luna did not ask why Apollo was doomed, she simply accepted that he was, and understood that she would also inherit his role in the business, such as it was.  No matter what she did, it would look like ‘Grandmother’s’ protege was attempting to rise, and that ‘Sister Vee’ had contracted to put an end to ‘Grandmother’s’ right hand.  That worked fine, even if the truth was that Apollo had made a deadly mistake.  Luna did not inform Banshee regarding her contract, for a couple of reasons.  She did not want Banshee to warn Apollo, nor otherwise interfere.  She was not sure that Banshee would, but why take chances?  She had seen betrayal before.

Apollo died when a construct, made of illusions and webs, landed on his cheek.  It had flown into the office of ‘Grandmother’, a palatial suite in Terminus, where the man was working.  It was a Luna moth, and the moment it touched his skin, Apollo was a dead man..  Luna herself entered the room shortly afterward.  They sat together, drank tea, talked about ‘Grandmother’, who was curiously absent.  Luna caught the teacup before it smashed on the floor when Apollo finally died.  She withdrew a memory crystal hidden in her form-fitting leathers and checked to see that it had recorded this moment.  The Myos wanted proof and a body.  Luna’s first act as ‘Sister Vee’ was to smuggle Apollo's body back into Dena Nehele, preserved by webs and sent to The Farm where the Myos Guildmaster would confirm the kill.  Banshee did not turn up, in her absence, Luna took over the business, ‘Sister Vee’ sliding neatly into ‘Grandmother’s place.

Luna was a full Myos now, with a cover and a life of her own, and all the comforts that came with.

Now she only had to keep it.

Character in Play:

Luna regarded Bats across the poker table. He knew her as Vee, but he also knew her as an excellent player. She once worked security for Bats and used her Black Widow talents on The Belfry’s behalf for a number of things. Bats remembered her very well. Luna, for her part, remembered Bats fondly. He had been a skilled and enthusiastic lover, and as an employer, he had paid well. She never had an issue with business and pleasure crossing, and she had made clear to Bats back then that the bedroom was one thing, and the gambling hall floor was another. She had to give Tybalt some credit. That man had no problem compartmentalizing, and when he hired an expert, regardless of their bedroom jaunts, he really listened.

The Black Widow assassin uncrossed and crossed her legs artfully, smiling slightly as she did so, knowing that Bats would see it as the transparent distraction that it was. That would not, however, keep Bats from being properly distracted.

The gambler and Jacks Master made a face, ”That’s almost unfair.” He considered his cards, and then Luna’s legs again, noting the nearly bare thigh as fabric settled.

”Only almost?” Luna smiled, her voice smokey and low. ”I must be losing a step.”
Bats smiled, ”Never.” He made a bet, finally, pushing chips into the center of the table.

Luna looked at the cards laid out in the river, and then her own cards, and then at her chips. Bats sat back with a wide smile, and while he was certainly a handsome man, even exotic in some ways, he was hardly as distracting as Luna could be. She made a bet, adding a folded piece of paper in the likeness of a butterfly to the pile of chips. The Black Widow set her cards down and had a drink of the wine Bats had poured for her. She sighed in appreciation. It was, as always, the good stuff. ”I call, you handsome scoundrel.”

Bats flipped over his hole cards and grinned, ”You played a hard game. You’re one of the few that can play me out to the whole river.” He gestured to the cards that had already been dealt and lay face up between them, to one side of the pile of chips and the paper butterfly resting atop them. ”That’s a Prince’s Troop, Sweetheart. Looks like I get that discount on those amphorae of ancient Hayllian wine after all.”

The Black Widow smiled sweetly, which instantly made Bats a little leery. ”Hayllians don’t like to part with history, Darling, and those were secured at significant expense. I told you, I couldn’t afford your usual discount in this one case.” She turned over her own hole cards, and Bats groaned. She had a Dragon’s Troop.

Tybalt tilted his head, ”You changed your tells.”

”Did I?” She smiled beatifically at him and gestured at the butterfly.

Bats took up the butterfly, unfolded it, eyed the chips and the money they presented, and then the note again. He sighed, ”I’ll pay the asking price. As for the information you want, give me two days. I’ll have it for you.” He scowled at the cards, as Luna rose to her feet in a sinuous display of grace and feminine curves.

The Black Widow leaned across the small table, distracting the Jacks Master with a view of her decolletage. Luna caressed his cheek, ”I know you will. See you in two days.”
Tybalt blinked and cleared his throat, ”Aw, I thought you would stay, and we could get reacquainted.”

Luna grinned and looked Bats over as though she were terribly hungry and he was a five-course meal. Bats nearly blushed. ”I know that, too.” She turned and walked away, evening gown shimmering as she moved.

Tybalt watched her go and got up to pour himself a cold, cold drink.
