* Plot Information for Hayll

Hayll has been in the grip of conspiracy for years, with shadowy hands pulling the strings of a puppet Queen, and attempting to ensure Hayllian dominance well into the future. The Coliseum was destroyed, and the uprising has given a voice not only to the slaves that escaped the bloodsport, but to the frustrations of the people at large. Traditionalists, hedonists, and freedom fighters collide in an effort to shape Hayll, with internecine war a looming threat.

Appearance

Play By: Kristin Kreuk

Distinguishing Features: Understated elegance is a perfect manner to describe the Lady Caelissine. A warm blush often rests to high, perfectly sculpted cheekbones revealing the purity of her bloodline without hauteur but instead with the manner of her movements offered in delicate form. When it is said a woman is beauty, grace and class, Caelissine, like her mother and Paternal Grandmother before her exudes it naturally and without extensive effort. Her touch with the Darkness and the deepest connection to it with even the hours at midnight seems to weave through each breath. The Priestess possesses a very pleasant voice both in listening to for conversation as well as song.

Best Feature: Her pin straight true midnight hair that is worn well past the middle of her thighs.

Worst Feature: The faint hint of freckles on her cheeks, shoulders and lower back; she does not bother with many cosmetics despite this "defect", fully believing in the idea that being honest in one's appearance and beauty is far better for the depths of the heart and mind.

Personality

Personality: If the Blood are passionate, then the Lady Caelissine exudes the trait wrapped up in a touch of innocence and hint at the potential for greater wisdom never once ripped from her.  She is confident in her dealings with men as well as other women, with a warm, thrumming pride in both her family as well as who she is not for the purpose of being set above others, but for being responsible for the sake of the world and those that are not so blessed to have what others like her do. She has spent her millennia of life with a head bent toward as much learning as possible to avoid the seeping corruption that became the norm before the purge and Witch's advent having torn through the Blood regardless of station.

In her opinion while it is one thing to be born into a Caste, it is another entirely to devote oneself wholly and completely, without fear to that life which Caelissine considers her greatest duty. In the memory of her brother Horatio whom was not strong enough to both ride out the purge as well as protect her and her mother, choosing to sacrifice himself, does she consider each act afforded from her hands.  Everything she does is for those memories, her mother Lady Lana's sake; she strives to avoid hatred and bitterness for her father Julius the Elder's memory, the deeply honourable man that raised her. She has been known at least in Faro and Citra to serve for an assistant for many a Virgin Night, as well, simply due the warmth and care of her presence.

Her cousin's sacrifice as well for her then unborn sister, herself and her mother resonates through all. As a result of the man she loved for centuries perishing during the Purge, Caelissine frets of never knowing another love paired with the respect and honour she needs, or worse, spending her days with an indifferent lover that she may eventually resent. Her standards as a result of this concern are very, very high. There are few gifts in the world that she would desire than a bond akin to the one her parents possessed. Her elder brother and cousin are being overly protective of her hardly helps that pursuit. At least, in Lady Caelissine's opinion.

Likes:
  • 1 Moonlight Evenings: Though she has relocated for much of her time to Draega rather than her home shared with her siblings, cousins and mother in Cirta on the edge of the perfection of the Faro Forest, Caelissine still loves to seek out midnight evenings. The clearer the better, in her opinion to observe the stars and the moon at night.  She finds this time of day to be the best for most any task or joy: lovemaking, reading, reclining, dancing.

  • 2 Napping in Trees: When back at home, there is a smaller portion of her familial land not part of the historical protected grounds of the forest that runs parallel to the boundary that is as old and well tended. As a child she learned with ease to climb trees as well as she did courtly graces in a ballroom. This pastime has been exchanged while in Draega for reclining on the most pillow covered and lovely chaise she can find, the prettier the better.

  • 3 Gardening: Her mother Lady Lana taught her the rightness of working in the land, even with something as small as a garden, which with her extensive training Caelissine learned to plant and appreciate the use of herbs for simple mending and fruit for eating.  In Draega ... it is entirely another matter, for she struggles with the sheer foulness of the city with her poor heart quietly strained for those that must live there full time, unlike herself. She has a small garden on the grounds of the estate her brother maintains in Draega within the "old city", inherited from their father that is shared with her sister and mother for use when they are in residence.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Uncleanliness: There are few things that Caelissine likes least than something being untidy even if she has to tend it with her own hands, and especially so. Being wealthy never stopped her parents from ensuring each of their children understood at a reasonable depth hard work with ones own hands; all the better to treat their servants and the Landen around them with the respect they deserve even if they are not Blood or non-Aristo.

  • 2 Uselessness: One of the additional traits that the lady cannot abide in anyone nearest to her is that of uselessness, and especially those that believe that the hands of lower born Hayllians are not as good as those within the first families.  She is extremely careful however not to speak of such a matter however with certain ears, being terribly grateful for her training in Aural Shielding, another gift that is very useful for a Priestess especially.

  • 3 Unneeded Cruelty: While the lady understands the purpose of justice that is even handed and fair even if it at times might be rough, she has a loathing for those that are cruel for the sake of being so, for it was that sort of business that helped bring on the death of so many of the Blood, and that she simply cannot abide. It makes for difficulty in living in Draega and often not being the wisest to speak in certain company, or even in public regarding an injustice, something she has learned to deal with by keeping a journal for the day and passing it to her brother, Julius in hopes there might be a small skirmish here or there that will not cause an abundance of political trouble to correct.

    Fears:

  • 1 Endless Warfare: As a Hayllian woman that has observed not only the Great War and its climax, but the constant conflict between her own home and Askavi, she has a deep exhaustion and fear of the war never ever coming to an end. The unwillingness of either the Askavi or Hayllians to let go of their pride and hatred and remember that they are all Blood tires her both mentally and emotionally. Or worse, direct manipulation or even murder for the purpose of power make Caelissine feel almost physically ill at the very idea, especially following the Purge with so many Blood dead and broken being the way of life.

It rubs her raw, the idea that some men and women seek to place deep grief in the hearts of others when they themselves have suffered it. The lady wonders in vain purpose where such matters end, particularly with the realisation that there are people among both kinds but especially her own Hayllian that have far too much time on their hands and turn toward cruelty that builds additional hatred, and the cycle continues, evil begetting evil.  She fears it, because it makes for a difficult place to contemplate having a family in, and daily the woman wonders if her home, that place she loves dearly even with its tarnish, is truly where she belongs at all.

  • 2 Being Rendered Unable to Aid: Watching her loved ones go through the Purge was difficult, to say the least upon the matter. Privately, the Priestess rationalised that the horrific event could be easily marked as a mistake of a mysterious woman - the Witch that she celebrates, Caelissine feels would never have been so secretive and distant. Furthermore, the Priestess suspects the end result of the Purge in response to the Great War was either due to a lack of training or loathing toward her own people and the violence they caused enough to outweigh the difference between honourable Blood and corrupted. Observing so many, but especially her own mother end up with a Shattered Offering as a result of trying to aid others in the Aftermath, was traumatic. As if, despite the gracious, elder woman's warmth she was not worth living, and all of the other Blood were not worth being spared. Finally, Lucian's sacrifice paired with his protective kindness and skill has made that fate a particular fear that occasionally keeps the Lady Caelissine up at night.

At times, she needs to see a Healer for her inability to find proper rest around the nightmarish visions of her dreams even almost two hundred years after the fact, as it is deeply wrapped around her own survival and essential arising physically unscathed from the ordeal. The very idea that something akin to this could again occur and she is unable to aid for some reason is akin to a most haunting, unshakeable presence.  As a result it has driven her to be even more devoted to her own caste, delving into the Darkness and Communing on a daily basis to stretch her skill and millennia of training as far as it could possibly go with her Light Jewels.

To her, possessing unbroken Jewels is practically a miracle these days if one is of a certain age.  She has taken effort to try and push through the fear that occasionally, even in the middle of the day has her struck still with flashbacks of especially the children's still bodies. It has taken effort of an immense manner to realise that what she yet possess does not mean she is without depth and strength, and was not worth saving or surviving. Caelissine means as a result to tap it all the way thoroughly rather than allowing her fear to hold her stagnant, but it is a daily fight and a continual struggle behind the sweet smiles and open heart she professes to have.

  • 3 Emotional Manipulation: That Emotional Manipulation almost seems a more important bit of commerce than gold itself in Draega has some level of deep-seated uncertainty twisting in her thoughts, along with the idea that such measures will be used to keep Hayll so deeply drowning in warfare that there will be nothing left to protect. The very idea of those being so full of themselves that they lack understanding of the greater picture causes the Lady Caelissine a quiet grief. She values correct behaviour, honesty and openness to the point that the reverse haunts her as a result of the direction of the Purge; i.e. that no one was truly spared, good or bad. 'I do not hate them, the winged long lived Eyriens.  Do they not mourn their loved and dead just as we do?'

    Craft Strengths:

  • 1 Priestess: Connecting with the Darkness - 'There is more than one way to ease the layers of passion that we Blood possess' she has been known to murmur eloquently. It is a true appreciation and pleasure for the lady to ensure a one of the Blood can not only be mended physically, but know the innermost Darkness of the Abyss as best one possibly can. She finds it almost a completion for her own presence and spirit to tend one of the Blood in this way, during the descent as well as the Connecting with the Darkness.  For her, she has always been wiling and able to serve as that of a spiritual healer, plucking free blockages in those that are willing to be so cared for.

  • 2 Priestess: Communion Craft - Some difficulty in the thorough use of the gifts the Blood carry however, is not always the result of disease or old wounds poorly tended, or broken gems, but of the manner in which some of the Blood are not taught properly to delve in themselves and the world around them, then in turn, the Darkness. To Caelissine the act of communing with the Darkness and leading another into it is especially intense as well as requiring a particular trust that she respects and values almost more deeply than her own self.  She is capable particularly through touch/massage to encourage a supplicant to clear their mind, using her place as a Priestess thoroughly as possible.

    Craft Weaknesses:

  • 1 Psychic Craft: Psychic Scent Masking - Caelissine has never been skilled as a result of her open, caring personality to hide her psychic scent, but rather finds it almost impossible and draining to try and do so. To her it is akin to keeping the wrong kind of secret. Indeed, when she even makes the attempt it often causes her psychic sent to appear more strongly, which at her age at past a millennia has occasionally been a mild embarrassment, though thankfully nothing lasting.

  • 2 Sight Shielding - Thought it is used most often for personal stealth, to hide in plain sight was never a practical skill that Caelissine managed to master even on the most basic level. As a child, and younger girl at play she was very often the one found first for a Sight Shield provides a witch with practical invisibility. It happens to go hand in hand with her inability to disguise or hide her own psychic scent, and practically goes against the grain of her personality. Caelissine typically loves to be seen and loves to see people in turn, and having grown up so very lucky in a deeply caring family has only compounded that difficulty in learning for her, despite how incredibly useful it is a skill.

    History:

At few centuries past her first millennia and particularly having lived much of her life prior to the Purge, one could note that the steadiness of character particularly for a woman born into one of the Hundred Families is relatively remarkable, if not possibly unheard of by some standards.  Her parents, both lighter jeweled carefully cultivated their family to be outside more of the arguably corrupt influence of society in Draega while at once being wary and aware of it enough to side step most difficulties in regards to any of the remaining courts and the protocol therein, or simply the society of Hayllian Blood in the larger scheme of matters. The primary estate of the Augustinus family lies far to the south, sprawling along the border of the protected Faro Forest in Citra and it is where the children of Julius the Elder and Lana Titania spent most of their time in learning and growing.

Caelissine, as her mother’s first born daughter, was favoured with the second name Titania to mark her as that status as is common to the Augustinus family, which two days after her birth, her mother shifted to Tatiana, so that her daughter had a little individuality in her name, but never forgot the traditional preference. The girl was born into the Priestess caste, which was made apparent by the time of gaining her first jewel at the age of eight with the hints and natural gifts she had in tapping into the Darkness and sitting for long periods of time in beginning meditation without much initial frustration. Later on, this built into the start of an in depth study and reading regarding Priestess’ rituals. The reception of her Birthright Jewel of the Uncut Tiger’s Eye and her mother naming her husband with full paternity rights as well was a distinct joy for the family, as prior to Caelissine’s birth her mother Lana had born two sons. With a daughter to round out their small, yet beautiful family it offered some further balance in their home.

Later on with the Offering Ceremony, and her receiving an Uncut Summer Sky jewel for her devotion to her place in life, it was there that Caelissine became certain that she truly desired to learn and train as a Priestess in truth, for it is one matter being born into a Caste, so sayeth her mother, yet it was always another bending the mind to delve as far as one could.  For much of her life the young woman took the vocation as seriously as her relatively young mind knew how.  The Rituals came to Caelissine with a particular joy woven through them, though she had somewhat less of a focus upon the Theory of maintaining Gates and far more upon the Marriage and Birthright Ceremonies, and especial interest in the Fertility Ceremony and the Offering itself.

Until the Purge, the Lady Caelissine’s life was relatively steady with spending part of the year in Draega for training and connections with other families before returning to clearer aired, sweet scented Faro for the remainder of the year, where she preferred to be. Her Virgin Night was tended to by her cousin at some remove, Lucian Primus Augustinus. Nearly a thousand years her senior and holding the station of a Warlord unbound to a Queen at the time though generally willing to allow his aunt to redirect some of his more protective nature with her presence as well as through immense training, he was an honourable choice. It seemed only natural to the family to allow such an important event for their then at the time only daughter to be managed carefully in this way rather than having it bungled by a lesser known Aristo or worse, a Hayllian with an agenda as many have a tendency of holding.

His being close to the family due to the tragic death of his own parents smoothed the matter of him being trustworthy over beautifully.  It went well, passionately, and offered Caelissine her first understanding of healthy intercourse and sensuality with another of the Blood as a result of the elder man weaving his own strength in the then Sapphire gem he possessed with hers.  At the time being with a male that was darker jeweled and as well her senior caused the young Priestess' sensual awakening to be perfectly appropriate and a true blessing. In turn, some centuries later, it encouraged the Priestess into returning the favour for other younger males on the rare occasion. Though the danger is much less marked, aiding in a trend of creating more responsible young men to allow for a pattern of less broken ladies seemed to her, the best of both worlds.

As a Hayllian, Caelissine has never married due to a distinct lack of a need for at the time, her father to seek that type of contractual gain through his daughter, though she has certainly had her fair share of giving, intelligent lovers over the years. Most seldom lasted very long (with the exception of Lucian’s occasional interest in her bed, and perhaps one or two others), until she met the man that so briefly became the love of her life just before gaining her millennia.

It was clear upon her meeting the far senior yet stoic Senator, that it had been her father and other male relatives that had steered the widower toward her. However, Lord Graelian Faro’s presence in Caelissine's life seemed a dream born of sweet Darkness from the very start.  With two smaller children of his own, she became close to both the man and his small family.  The courtship went along with perfection, even as she watched the well born gentleman gain wealth and position beyond expected means through the wine trade. It was the Great War, and the mysterious, young, and in her opinion - probably poorly or undertrained Witch’s accession and the Purge of the Blood that followed that literally shattered everything that Caelissine had worked toward very nearly.

Her family had huddled around them in one of the sitting rooms with each of the males unwisely shielding the other and desperately trying to pool their mystical resources to keep both Caelissine and her mother, and especially her unborn sister safe from harm, even though her mother was unable to use Craft at all due to her delicate state.  One after another they shielded the pair of women, speaking to each other on their respective love and devotion before their gems were melted, shattered, or drained and in the case of their father, both for the sake of his lady and only love.

Horatio, Caelissine's second eldest brother as well perished, while Lucian found himself broken back from his strong Sapphire down to Purple Dusk and remained within a comatose state for weeks afterward.  Their beautiful, passionate mother and Queen also was broken back to her Birthright Purple Dusk gem after the brith of her daughter in using too much power to help her people.  Regardless of the losses, or perhaps because of, Maerina Varinia Agrippina, is to this day is the pride and sweet solace of their family, having been appropriately born to the Healer caste.

Between these conflicts and rather than hatred for the Eyriens and this single appearance of Witch - it encouraged Caelissine to excel in the memory of the losses of her father and brother, her mother’s and cousin’s sacrifices. Over the last pair of centuries even through the chaos and tragedy having held sway, Caelissine has done her very best to take matters slow steps at a time in healing her heart with the help of those closest to her.  The events of the Great War and the aftermath offered a pure, iron resolve and a focus for her passion after she finished her grieving and the Funeral Rites for those that had been lost among her kin. She understands keenly that all might have been worse  than what was. Caelissine is well aware now that to remain steadfast and openhearted even toward those that would possibly be enemies, honourable even is a task that may well take everything she has and more.

'Of all the Priestesses that remain among the living, I would so desire to shine with them all in the best of ways akin to the brightest of the stars in the Night sky. Nay, I will not to seek the downfall of others around me, but I would wish to lift all of the Blood I can, to greater heights.' - Lady Caelissine Titiana Agrippina.

    Mother Night's Embrace

Musical Embellishment (link to Spotify): Dancing in the Rain

The city was very different from her southern, less ... crowded home in Cirta, but for political purposes, it was not possible to remain only there and retain any position of societal importance. Being seen in Draega even if one did not live there full time was paramount to being an Aristocratic Hayllian. It took a particular grace in attempting similar pursuits as she might back home, such as enjoying the rainfall at the evening. When the moon was high, Caelissine waited until perhaps by some miracle of most of the rest of the Blood no longer being out and about, or at least ensconced within the elegant chambers of one of the houses near her brother's own estate. Brilliant, two-toned golden eyes weighted with both warmth and now centuries old melancholia watched out the fine glass of the window, waiting until the sky split richly open.  It was one of the few moments that the air smelled bearable by Draegan standards, when the rains came down hard and pounded the earth akin to the feet of excited children. Another sound recalled that made the Priestess thoroughly wistful.

Graelian ... Noviiae, Ternai, I miss you endlessly.

No, do not think about it.  They are returned to the Darkness.

It's been almost two centuries.  You must move on.

Everything was so formal while simultaneously less comforting, bound by Protocol which was expected and even ideally carefully demanded, but also retaining veiled threats that only another Hayllian could truly find understanding therein. One had to take a grave, peculiar care in which conversation and chosen actions did not create enemies for those that were untutored regarding life among the Hundred Families and all those desiring to be closest to them for both gains and coattail hanging.

Graceful sloped shoulders rolled as she peered around for servants well respected or other male kin that were blessedly absent for the present time.  With her mother back home in Cirta, it meant that perhaps her second favoured pastime could be tended to without half a dozen eyes making a judgement over appearance and propriety. A soft, rich laugh eased free of the Priestess as she swept slender hands oft filled with a book or her Lyre through hair as black as midnight, untwining the coronet of braids before teasing the normally pin straight lengths free so that they fell heavily down her back to only come to a halt near to the middle of her thighs. For the moment, the thick, beautifully maintained tendrils held a crinkle that an hour of a brush later would remove completely.

Door opening, the Lady Caelissine sighed and stepped outside into the small garden at the back of the house with its own personal pool for the collection of fresh water. When the house was built, ages hence for the Agrippa family in the "Old City" no expense had been spared, and no expense had been spared on its upkeep. Some might have taken it for granted, but she could only look at the beauty in surround and consider how her life would be if she had not been born where she was, dreading as well the sleeping hours that would soon arrive and she would be pressed to fight through ...

For now, there was only the sweetness of the rain.

After a hesitation, Caelissine stepped out into it and in moments, her golden and green gown was utterly soaked through; rich fabric clung to gently rounded hips that had yet to offer forth life, which she tried to continue to disregard, while her breasts lay high and fine beneath the layers of limbus, stola, and tunica intimate. The instita, also in a warmer amber offered further indication of Caelissine's social status and further beautification of her attire. Twin Fibulae in the shape of crescent moons, crafted from delicate goldsmithing now worked a little harder to keep the layers of her attire together upon her shoulders.  She began to twist and spin in soft, graceful turns around the pool and the garden, smile widening ever move as she moved, passionate fire in every step ...

"Lady Caelissine.  If you do not take care, you shall be seen, and then what, madam?"

The tall, handsome Warlord did not say: and those hens masquerading as useful ladies will talk endlessly of you, but it was damnably tempting.  For the sake of politeness, it was held back.

Well, and there came and went the end of her moment. The Priestess' awareness followed the sound of the warm baritone voice across the way, while her golden eyes alighted upon Lucian himself. Her head tilted to the left.  "That rather depends on just whom I am noticed by.  It is not as if our high walls do not block the view of most any eyes that might attempt to peer for the sake of gossip that I would call useless, but others might indeed take note of to social benefit." She took immediate care and stepping back out of the rain, used Craft to dry herself as much as she could before soft, manicured, yet faintly roughened hands were offered first and then pulled her forth so that in the next moment, all she felt was warmth.

A twitch of a smile curled up Caelissine's lips in what was plain appreciation.  "I cannot and shall not deny the usefulness and kindness of your aid and advice.  My gratitude," she replied formally even as amusement filled her eyes.  She both agreed and did not at once, yet there was little purpose to be gained by making that semi-publically apparent.  Lucian, with his paler golden eyes and hair not quite so stunning as her own (she knew because he had said it was so), was hardly going to cause her trouble or make her lift difficult by helping. That he was here hinted that there was not, for the present, some Queen or other more important lady than herself to keep his attention. A soft appreciative flutter followed a sharp twist of grief.

"You are well?" She asked suddenly.

"A question I should be asking you," he returned, not choosing to answer her question with more than a gentle, but firm hand leading her indoors, to which her shoes were shifted on the rack nearby and inside the fine house with Craft from his efforts. With Lucian's hand, he closed the door behind them, while making certain it was shut tight.  Afterward, the elder man led Caelissine to a chair.

"It is no secret that you hardly sleep at all. See a Healer, soon, and not your sister."

Full lips parted, but rather than issuing any sort of complaint, Caelissine laughed softly, the sound low and melodic.  She curled up in the chair and eyed the man that had not been in her bed for nearly a century now, at this point.  There had been only a single time after the Purge that she had been drowning in her sadness that she sought him out, and he, being the gracious, protective Warlord and not bound in any fashion or wedded, tended to her with enthusiastic and methodical skill. She shivered with unfettered at the memory; he pretended to ignored it politely for her well being. Now was not the time for that and they both knew it.

"If I agree, will you ... stay with me while I try to sleep?"

She did her best and managed to hold eye contact with the question, releasing a soft breath as simultaneously, thought the softness of the chair had begun to force the issue intensely. Black fine lashes fluttered; their eyes continued to meet until Lucian spoke.

"Of course I shall remain and watch over you.  Close your eyes, sweet Tati."

It was his voice rolling through her senses that allowed her ease. She knew no more, asleep in seconds due her exhaustion. Just this night, Caelissine would not dream.

Rising to his feet, Lucian swiftly braided the woman's impossibly elegant, yet damp hair only to pull a cotton-silk blanket over her form after warming it with Craft.  Then he sat down in the opposite chair with a book entitled 'Poetry for the Classical Mind', crossing one stylish black trousered leg over the other.

Thank the Darkness for all its tender mercies.

All right, pardon the delay, it took longer to make a choice than I expected:

A general randomised jewel roll is what I would like for Caelissine, if someone would be ever so kind for both Birthright and Offering.

Per your request for a General Random roll..

Weighed by Mother Night...

You've risen from the Darkness twice blessed with an uncut Tiger Eye birthright Jewel, and were gifted with an uncut Summer Sky Jewel at your offering.

Firstly, thank you so much for that General Random! It was just what I wanted for her, nice and on the Lighter side!! -happy dance-

All right! I'm not at all finished with the character so don't get excited, haha.

But I would adore it if I could get 5 family rolls now that I know Lady Caelissine a little bit better -

4 General Light (one of the Light will be Broken not sure if this matters, and two dead) and 1 General Random, please and thank you kindly.

Halo -

Family Rolls are unilaterally General Random rolls, though you can reduce them if you'd like something lighter!

Here you go:

1. Tiger Eye - Purple Dusk
2. Purple Dusk - Opal
3. Purple Dusk - Sapphire
4. Yellow - Rose
5. Summer Sky - Opal

Review Council-

This application for the character submission of Caelissine Agrippina | Priestess is complete to the best of my understanding and knowledge and ready to be reviewed as soon as it is convenient.  I am aware and respect that the process could potentially take up to one week or more for a decision to be made. I do not believe I have any petitions to make; if there are required corrections or I have misunderstood the Alternate Universal Lore for this setting of Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Saga, please let me know! I am happy to make corrections as required. Lastly, the status of Family Rolls are noted for future reference and have been fully notated use of within the character sheet itself.

Thank you very much for the opportunity, once again.
