Appearance

Play By: Logan Browning
Distinguishing Features: Dainty and Ferocious. Alto voice with an edge of raspiness and sensual sharpness. Typically, two words that might not mesh so well together, yet work precisely as intended for Aslaug. Possessing her father's Long Lived Dhemlanese looks as the youngest of his multitude of scattered children, and her mother's burning, intense emerald green eyes that occasionally shift to a Glacian blue, she bears the best parts of her dual heritage.

Dhemlanese naval veteran Healer with the rank of Lieutenant-Surgeon gained before her honourable discharge, she is as skilled with a weapon as she is a deep healing weave and it is a mark upon her physique. Passion of standing in the Abyss and varied cultural heritage is as part of her as the slight curves possessed. When in Dhemlan, she wears her midnight hair bone straight to avoid additional commentary of her half blood status. In Glacia, it is allowed to curl at times. High fashion for her is a requirement, while her psychic scent reminds of warm ocean rain and Dhemlanese Lilies.

Personality

Personality: Akin to many members of her Dhemlanese family, Aslaug Constanza is viciously focused, often times to a fault. She has been known to utterly drain her red in performing excruciatingly difficult surgeries, with the need to rest deeply afterward, but this is merely another mark of success and living up to her ambitious Glacian mother's heritage.

As passionate as she is one thriving upon the seeking of intellect, and learning of every place she has travelled in Kaeleer - which has been visits to most territories at least once barring the oft considered mythical Dea al Mon, the scientific learning of Dhemlanese Landen as much as Blood Healer's Craft ever offers intrigue. While she believes in the superiority of the Dark Jewelled much as her mother did before her, there are other facets she'd sooner scoff at - in private at least. The disdain most Dhemlanese offer to the Landen sits like a rude sunburn between her shoulder blades, and the lack of faith in her home is what eventually drove her to seek the icy nation her mother once lived within.

While not entirely ignorant of the Silent Civil War in Glacia, and growing Dhemlanese corruption, as one that is part outsider to two homes, she turns a seemingly blind eye to troubles that do not concern her directly. Unlike many of her altruistic Long Lived kin, Aslaug is more inclined to rip what she wants from wherever she wishes - so long that Blood Law remains intact; trait gained from dutiful Naval service.

Decades of study and something of the outsider's view have allowed Lady Aslaug a unique place in life that she has no intention of releasing. In anything, the woman's ambition in absorbing every bit of knowledge possible perhaps makes her mother's sacrifice, and the depth of her Jewels almost a worthy one in the few Aristocratic Landvik Glacian cousins she possesses out of Vassa.

Usually loyal to family, friends, and the occasional lover, and one that tends to follow the legal code of wherever she currently lays her head, Aslaug has been known to be as harsh with those that turn on her as she is curious and warm with personages earned of her trust. Occasional items smuggled for its use in a healing practicum so long as it is done with a quiet grace (such as not getting caught), primary loyalties are to friends and blood ties regardless of where she may find them.

Respect is very important to the fiery healer; where it is given it shall be received. Though Healers as a whole might be charged in a general sense not to inflict harm, in cases where she has been directly betrayed, Aslaug is swift to see these rules out the window. Breaking the hand of a fellow in stealing her ideas that were once colleagues, a reversal of every healing received in a lover that lied are two examples of the woman's ferocity under fire. No stranger to death as a rule, she could be described as a surgical opportunist; weighing the value of one life against another sometimes is the way a path winds. Keeping one's friends satisfied without sacrificing the self is key a good life, in her opinion.

If there were any one person or concept that Aslaug were most loyal to, it is a balance of what appears just, and more quietly, the memory of her parent's love which transcended differences.

Likes:
  • 1 Bullfights: The sheer violence in the Landen Bullfighting presence in Dhemlan is one of the facets Aslaug enjoys about being Dhemlanese. The entire cultural presence in it is something sh has revelled in since childhood, and the stories her father told her about it before his eventual death. Regardless of the fact that she is a Healer and most of the events are the direct opposite of her natural caste, that the Landen of her paternal home managed to create such an incredible - and ferocious art for the eyes and senses is most remarkable. That the origin of Bullfighting has a considerable and almost religious story revolving around it, also draws the lady to watch when travelling back to Dhemlan.

  • 2 Piste: Appreciative of all musical and dance forms due the traditions of the Asturias family to partake in them made it very easy for Aslaug to gain a delight in Piste - the prime art form of Glacia. While not nearly as intriguing as Bullfighting, there is truly a peacefulness in it, as much as there is the gentility and mystery of prayers granted in a deep, frozen cave.

  • 3 Spice of Dhemlan: The relative blandness of Glacian food pales in comparison to the well spiced meals she was accustomed to with her paternal relatives. Eating peppers as a means of seduction along with not quite reckless drinking is a little of a passion of hers. Though something needed to be kept rather more circumspect since her return to her mother's place of birth and home, it is no secret that she's perfectly keen to spend her considerable wealth by short lived standards in importing incredible riches. Some few Aristocratic families will often deal with her directly to get what they might wish from Dhemlan, Nharkava, and other places she's travelled simply because she does not overcharge as some might. For her friends, they get incredible items and even priceless books for free. Who does that?

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Portions of the Dark Religion: Training males. While most parts of the Dark Religion deeply appeal to Aslaug, she couldn't give a rats ass about a man being a Black Widow or a Healer in addition to his natural Caste; its a practise seen in Dhemlan without mockery, or murder, or death typically. Of course, the laws of various places she visits or lives in are as well important, this is one particular issue she quietly, to herself, without even the slightest murmur, finds totally stupid. All the rest, the prayer, the belief in Mother Night as true and real, she accepts and often wishes that more Dhemlanese felt the same rather than being so ... irritatingly stuck upon themselves without purpose.

  • 2 Idleness: As a bearer of the Red and a Healer besides, sitting still is extremely hard for Aslaug. Really. She would rather do any task, even to the point of sullying her hands in menial labour or cleaning after surgery than do nothing. How anyone can stand to waste time is utterly beyond her. One could be learning, absorbing more, gaining more wealth, trying for children ... any number of a variety and rich series of tasks than ... idleness. Mother Night preserve her from the active sense of being bored.

  • 3 Cheaters: Poor sportsmanship, and dishonesty in a general sense (read: habitual liars) unless committed with an actual useful purpose annoy Aslaug. The tendency for Dhemlanese to lie for just the sake of getting the most minor leg up over another person when instead they could actually work hard for what they want is disturbing in the extreme. This particular disdain results from chasing pirates and other miscreants as a member of the Dhemlanese Navy. Even if one is utterly villainous, by all means, have a thrice damned code and stick to it! If there isn't one thing that will make that dark temper of hers rise, it is this. Slavers, Smugglers, Pirates all belong in this category, regardless of any particular 'good intentions'. More than a few dishonest lovers (whether one or two have died by her hand or not is neither here nor there) have also caused this precise dislike. 'I'll share, but lie to me, and we will dance at sword point. But don't worry. When we fight, you'll have a weapon to hand.'

    Fears:
  • 1 Hurricanes: Green quiet skies that skate rough fingers down the back in warning, take shelter. Eerie lights over the calm ocean. The ripping of the sky just at the beginning of a storm at sea. These things make Aslaug literally quake in her perfect heels. Having survived a number of truly bestial Hurricanes with the scars on her back to prove it, mourning dear friends, and at least a couple commanders, such storms and having to fight in them have and will rip her from sleep screaming into whatever pillow or from behind an aural shield. Though a skilled Black Widow could likely ease these troubles, the retired Lieutenant-Surgeon would sooner rip out old wounds than let almost anyone near the deep recesses of her mind.

  • 2 Falling: Mast and rope climbing is a necessary part of sailing; Aslaug is a born natural, and with the training she's received, she could climb blindfolded and has for the occasional thrill bet. Being small and swift, Aslaug was often called to serve as lookout, especially considering her Jewel strength. A few times over the decades of service she's given, a tumble from the topmast for one without Craft is a fucking death sentence. Though clearly Lady Narvaez yet lives and is (mostly) unmarred, it does not mean she is not afraid of that long fall, where sheer panic might make what Craft is usually instinct not work at all until last moments. Having seen what that kind of fall to the death can do to a body, it is one of those matters that she tries to both swallow down her fears, but also not allow the passionate recklessness of being a very young half blooded Long Lived Blood cause the issues it did in her earliest decades. Some of those memories and misfires of Craft have been enough to drive her to drink ... just a little more than she should.

  • 3 Legacy Failures: As political grasping is a true art form among the Dhemlanese, and with the ambition inherent in her both due her family heritage and her late mother's memory, the very idea of failing a potential deal of any kind that might offer gain is a sore spot in the mind. Not only is it a slap in the face of her considerable pride, she's afraid of it, afraid of disappointing the truly larger than life presence of her parents, and the memory of their brief, and very, very fiery courtship despite differences. Every step, each gain, every success is a mark in the book and a blessing as if Mother Night had reached through and touched her cheek, as she imagines her mother might have had the lady lived. This fear is wrapped tightly in the fact that she privately blames herself for her mother's death, even though she was an innocent baby.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Bone Shaping: 'All needing done is a shift in the length and breadth of the tibia ...' Easing recurring migraines due to irregular bone shape and brain swelling, allowing a birth to be simple and quick due to the precision alterations of both a fetus' head and a woman's pelvis, reforming an injury believed a lifelong pain due to limbs grown in the wrong length, all of these and more are specialties that Lady Aslaug is famous for in more than one territory. Given her incredible skill paired with a brutal variety of wounds sustained in her presence during Naval service, she has a unique understanding of both Blood and Landen needs for healing, down to the bones that Mother Night has gifted all of her children.

  • 2 Reverse Healing: 'We shall wish to shift back time and prevent pain simultaneously ...' While assuredly capable of reversing time on a healing for the sake of harm, it is not the primary method this deeply studied skill has been used. Rather her gift in said subject has typically been to reverse wounds too swiftly healed at sea and in battle that might have otherwise crippled a patient irreversibly. While bone fractures and twisted musculature are her primary interest, reparations down to the genetic level of near fatal mutations are a dearly appreciated specialty.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Vanishing&Conjuring: 'Shit shit shit! I do apologise for all of the books. I intended but one.' With so much of her Craft being particularly specialised healing, and large, complicated spells, Vanishing and Conjuring her own gear is extremely difficult for Aslaug. She's been known to accidentally summon an entire bookcase or half her own library in her youngest decades. While still not very skilled in this Craft, it takes almost a near meditative state and quiet for her to manage Vanishing and Conjuring with any true grace. As such, most items she possesses are Craft enhanced to ease the way.

  • 2 Battlefield & Triage Healing: 'Healing on the field, there is no room for the study of a wound.' Though in a technical sense Aslaug is not incapable of Triage, given her specific practices, it is far more draining to tend a patient in a chaotic situation than the calm of the infirmary. The woman's Craft simply neither works as efficiently in these situations, such as it being more draining to close a wound to the gut in the middle of battle, compared to a well thought out and methodic surgical requirement. Though gifted with the Red, she functions at these times and with spells specifically for the Battlefield an entire Jewel rank lighter. It is a major frustration for Aslaug, and was often something needing to be navigated carefully during her Naval service. Though she's never accidentally been unable to save a patient, mismanagement could well produce that result.

*Though she has no Glaician siblings as her mother had no other children, the Landvik family in Vaasa is well known for its trading of finished precious stones for hundreds of years of historical wealth. Many cousins abide, along with a considerable range of interwoven ties with other families.

    History:

Though she does not bear her mother's name due to her half heritage - it was denied by the lady herself before her death long ago and prior to Aslaug's birth, it is with pride that half of herself is considered, rather than a lack. That she may well live half the span as the rest of her Long Lived relatives is not a disgrace, but rather an uplifting of the best parts of Glacian life, stories left to her by way of Lady Anita Landvik's journals. A keen eye upon learning, she attended Salamanca University at her elder brother's recommendation completing tutelage in both Post-Doctoral Healing and Cultural Studies.

Yet, prior to Naval service and all of those adult matters, Aslaug's story begins with a courtship in Paloma before she was a little twinkle. Child of a diplomat, and a Priestess keenly interested in the renown of Dhemlanese Universities even considering her disdain of all things non-Glacian, the Aristocratic Lady found both the dispensation and considerable funds to attend Salamanca University - and study the Dhemlanese way of life for the gains of Glacia. With a focus primarily in the arts as Dhemlan's Priestesses did not appeal, it was there she met Romerio Narvaez - finding the tall, terribly elegant man and his ability in Craft Painting near mesmerizing.

Observing the man at his work somehow led to a tumble and series of several sessions of heated passion - and of course, Aslaug's conception. Though the male stood not so deep in the Abyss as she, and the child was clearly half blooded and unplanned, Lady Anita's intentions were to bear her daughter and leave it to the gentleman's family to tend. After all, a baby with a foreigner and utterly unknown Jewel strength was of very little interest to her.

Just in case, Lady Landvik comprised journals for her daughter just in case she grew to something worth the time to watch from a distance. Sadly, with Healers especially of the natural sort in Dhemlan - ironically which Aslaug would be born as - Anita Landvik never made it back to Glacia alive. Though this pained Prince Narvaez - that it left him with his final child after the deep mourning and loss of his Queen offered the man a return to life and its passion in his last days that was most unexpected.

With polite honours, and her wishes expressly followed to the letter, he had Lady Landvik's remains returned to her family to tend by the Glacian rites, despite the disagreement this provoked among the immense Asturias clan. It lead of course to letters being exchanged between Glacia and Dhemlan despite how very closed off the country eventually became especially in regard to Light Jewels leaving. Named Aslaug after her Glacian late great-grandmother by her mother's wishes, the initially Opal Jewelled natural Healer was a gently guarded part of the family, regardless of her half long lived status; the Asturias were no stranger to such unions being close to both the Realm renown Naval traditions as well as ties to the University.

As there is no issue with light, or dark jewels in Dhemlan - and only a deeply cutthroat sense of superiority as well as politicking - from the earliest parts of her life, Aslaug had the very best Basic Craft Theory that money and at least, the most altruistic bribes could buy. By the time of her Opal Birthright, she was well versed in what was required for the Ceremony by both Glacian and Dhemlanese tradition.

Oddity among her Dhemlanese family with brilliant and changeable green eyes (and the Glacian for her sun-kissed skin and midnight hair) already, and a deep zeal for learning, she begged her father to allow a Priestess to attend her in the most natural place possible, rather than in the opulent, overblown manner that many Long Lived Ceremonies are given rather than spiritual. Despite his puzzlement, she was allowed to partake of the Mother near to the sea side, as at that time, a rough cave was considered too dangerous for a little girl.

Interest of course in her immediately rose from her almost dream-like seeming short lived relatives across the border. The exchange of letters increased as Aslaug aged, and discussion of a potential visit was considered. However, due to the discrepancy in age and culture, it was not until well after Aslaug's quiet, graceful Offering at which she received a perfectly blessed cut Red Jewel (like her mother before) that any chance at seeing that part of the world was actually followed through.

Instead, University study for Healing and a variety of other liberal arts and even Landen Science and Medicine followed, despite the lack of a need for the latter in a technical sense, Aslaug wanted to learn everything she possibly could manage. High marks became something of a deep drive for her especially in sending news back to the Landvik family of each of her very marked successes considering her youth among the Long Lived. A total of thirty years of study and only then, did she first move toward studies at the Naval Academy, having graduated with both honours and spending a few years as a Professor of Anatomical Corrective Healing, and Advanced Genetics.

Another fifteen for her to consider herself proficient enough to move forth to actually joining the Dhemlanese Navy that her Asturias relatives had done before her. It was after her first rank gain that the father she had loved - and others of the wide ranging family had adored, finally passed on at an age well past four thousand years and nearing his fifth millennia. This too rather than only sending Lady Aslaug into a deep sadness, only increased her need for as close to perfection as she could possibly manage. Lovers were scattered and brief, if not contradictory with unpleasant ends, while any commitment beyond her ambition was simply not possible.

Passionate nature made it difficult however, to serve without the occasional lesson in a need to close her lips; she possesses the aged and well healed lash marks to prove it noted by touch mostly just under the surface of the skin, worn as a badge of honour. Twenty years of service in the Dhemlanese Navy, and she by choice had herself honourably discharged rather than seek familial leave to attend to relatives that had passed on in Glacia long before she was able to even meet them due the discrepancy of her age to theirs. It is one of those life sorrows that taught her a lesson of being more keenly aware of others different from her in a variety of manners.

First trip to Glacia was a complete marvel. 'Did anyone ever see such snow, wind, and ice? Such passion in faith?' Stone palatial buildings, and a considerable need for education and knowledge witnessed with her own eyes only confirmed the truths her mother had written about over her very tragically truncated existence. Witnessing these parts and spending time in the country as first a tourist of sorts with blood ties when not travelling to other locales for wealth and trade connections and later, as a Guest Lecturer on a variety of Advanced Healing Subjects allowed Aslaug to learn delight in her mother's home as much, or perhaps more than the Dhemlanese city in which she was born and spent much of her life at focused study.

Given her thoughts to remain primarily at this time in Glacia - for the most part minus the occasional itchy wanderlust - Lady Aslaug is well appreciated perhaps ... despite the loss of her late mother given specifically the equal Jewels possessed. Sheer depth of the knowledge legacy potential her intriguing heritage has offered in return for among the Landvik, the retired Lieutenant-Surgeon is well prized and respected by those able to look past how long she'll out live them.

    Character in Play:

Leather backed and black, the heavy book floated just well within range so she could read it, Lady Aslaug in no way had the interest in sitting still with her study for the day. The tome - one of a several hundred strong collection that was only a portion of what she owned - that she had brought with her to Vaasa was heavy and to turn the pages while she twirled upon the stone floor at her cousin's townhouse would surely keep her busy until the later dinner party.

While she enjoyed Piste during the Winter season, there would always be a piece of the half blooded Healer that delighted in Dhemlanese dance, which took a hundred years or more to truly master - though it could be argued that the best dancers were at least a pair of millennia old. Thus, a pleasant form of multitasking during which, Aslaug assumed she would not be pestered. Typically unless a particular healing was needed and one of their own that had been born here in this cold region could not manage it, the Landvik did not trouble her for much beyond conversation and to show her off.

Resultant now that the lean, tiny woman's hips moved with a precision only gained with the experience of near a century of life. Long by short lived standards, but a blink of an eye to even her oldest half blooded relatives, and even further brief for those that were entirely long lived. Piercing green eyes lay half closed as pages in the book turned and the complex diagrams were practically devoured by the rapier quick mind. Faintly scarred, callous, yet well Healed hands gripped heavy skirts of a deeper hue than the red of blood, more akin to burgundy. Once, twice, thrice, Aslaug twirled, delighted at the simple manner in the way her dancing shoes struck against the well polished stone yet did not mar it.

One of those Glacian bits of beauty; pride in their buildings just as much as they liked to learn. Releasing her skirts, she thrust hands that had stitched more bodies than sometimes she could recall immediately in the moment, at least, their faces, while the procedural manner was as clear as a bell. With a memory that was eidetic for certain matters: diagrams, the turn of a bone set wrong for decades in an exhausted body, that trait well aided her beloved Craft.

Midnight hair hung in thick, relentless curls this particular day, as her cousin, Prince Aage, had asked she wear it in such a fashion. They were having guests from another neighbouring family that were curious, apparently, about her presence. While decades ago, it would have, without hesitation riled her temper or caused the occasionally hotheaded Healer to seek solitude or a fencing training ground for near punishing routines, these days she simply nodded her head - so long as the interest was polite.

Relaxing into her movements, she did not notice the interruption at first, until a puzzled clearing of a throat resounded through the small library intended for family. The beautifully engraved heels ceased movement as Aslaug turned about just as a gravelly baritone voice filled the space. Diagrams and the precision of her movements, the pleasure of time to herself and a dance to remember slipped away in exchange for familial company.

"That is not Piste ... but forgive me if I say I liked watching it almost as well." With silver touched, dark blonde hair and a mostly clean shaven face, it was no longer an oddity seeing those that were younger than her appear older. Most of the time. She'd long accustomed to the idea and the manner of it. He was a fair man, her cousin, despite some of his harsher ideas regarding the Glacian Dark Religion - which as only half Glacian, Aslaug knew well enough not to make comment upon. After all, the fate of Light Jewelled Blood did not affect her, as had been pointed out upon her first visit here, years ago.

Softly she greeted the appearing Prince with a gentle clasp of hands. "Cousin."

She blinked however when he stood watching her, with the softest sheen of tears in his eyes; emotion was rare enough in the men she had spent her time most often around other than anger, so the display both had the Healer concerned as well as intrigued.

"Is something amiss?" Almost immediately, the Healer could all but feel the need to clamp down on that curiosity. Piercing green eyes shifted just a little to a frozen, glacial blue.

A raw chuckle eased forth as he shook his head; as they held hands, Aslaug pushed a little healing to ease old aches. It pleased to watch the man stand up a little straighter than he usually did due at least a few old injuries that he'd not permitted her to tend in full. "It is only ... that you have her eyes, my late Grand Aunt, your mother's precisely. Despite the ... summer hue of your looks, it is as if, despite the difference in your Castes, that something of her is given back to us." Furrowed brows lifted a little.

"You are staying this time, are you not, Lady cousin?"

Rather than answer immediately, she let herself calm first, feeling a faint defensiveness at her choices rise forth. It would never do any good to answer with roughness the same question asked no less than seven times since arrival from various relatives. Prince Aage was only the most recent.

    "I ..."

It depends if there's something more to hold me still.

Yet, she didn't dare say that.

Prince Aage stared at her, clearly awaiting only one possible answer.

"Yes. Until I need to travel again."

    "But you will return?"

"... Yes, cousin Aage," she replied with a patience that did not always arise easily. For a moment, somehow the man made her feel fifteen all over again, which was entirely bizarre.

"Very good." The Prince cleared his throat; he liked a well run home. "You should rest, and dress for dinner. Guests will arrive within the next hours."

Truly, though she did not like the idea, the parties here at the Landvik estate had a tendency to continue almost until dawn. Thus at least, it would not be idle waste, said rest.

"As soon as I finish this chapter, I shall do so."

With a sharper nod than he might have before her subtle aid which neither remarked upon, Prince Aage seemed satisfied and released his hold upon her hands. "See to it that you do. Half blooded or no, my dear cousin, we have traditions needing followed ..."

Aslaug held in her snort respectfully until he was well out of earshot.

Right. Traditions. Like that Midnight Keeper bullshit, though she'd never utter such a thing in her cousin's presence. Nor out loud at all, much as she never commented about the matters of the Cathedra in Dhemlan. Every place had its ... eccentric quirks. She could think of a heavy enough handful for either place. Or any.

...but not yet ready for play.

Your ratio is currently not balanced and you must have one light jewel and one landen (or jeweless blood) or three light jewel characters accepted before you can bring Aslaug into play.

Please reach out to Review when this has been addressed.

Edit: Ratio's been fixed, Aslaug is ready for play! -phinn
