* Plot Information for Dhemlan, Kaeleer

Dhemlan has become a land divided. The corruption that Witch’s Purge wiped out in the rest of the Realms was preserved by the well-meaning sacrifice of the territory’s Ebon Gray Queen. As such, the corruption here has only intensified. The tension between the Landen and the Blood who were meant to care for them is fast reaching a boiling point.

Distinguishing Features:
More than any of her very-typical Dhemlanese features, Teoda's charisma is what distinguishes her. She has a smile that can easily light up a room, and way of speaking to people that makes them feel like the most important person in the realm. Her physical features are probably quite average when unenhanced by makeup or craft, but when wrapped up in her personality and charisma the impression she makes is that of a lively, striking woman.

Personality

Personality:
Teoda is one of those people who are very difficult to overlook. You may love her or hate her, but you won't fail to notice when she enters a room. There is a warmth and energy which moves along with her that is infectious, helped along by sunny smiles and a direct, sincere gaze. She is outgoing, endlessly interested in the people and events going on around her. While in her youth this made it difficult for her to focus on any one thing, she has learned over time how to be aware of her surroundings without losing her focus on what's been given priority. She has always loved a good time, and to this day she'd be hard pressed to turn down the opportunity to revel in music and friends and food. The lessons her life has taught her have shown her the importance of ensuring that her responsibilities are seen to first, but it just as important to her to make sure she is enjoying this life she is working so hard to protect. The down side to this love of excitement and revelry is that in its absence, she can sometimes become bored easily, and difficult to entertain. She still loves adventure as much as she did in her younger years, and sometimes this makes her ill-satisfied with the stationary position at court. She loves caring for her people, however, and could not imagine herself being content in any other role.

From a very young age, Teoda has always possessed an air of grace and confidence. When playing that role, she is every bit the regal liege: patient, proud, benevolent and demanding. Even when not in the spotlight as Queen, Teoda seems like the sort who's never quite caught with her foot in her mouth. It's not the case, of course, but her demeanor makes it hard to imagine for one who hasn't witnessed it. The flip side of this confidence is arrogance, though. Teoda has had to learn a couple of difficult lessons around this, and for the most part they have taught her to keep an eye to her own flaws and shortcomings. Sometimes she forgets, even so. The lessons she's learned around this are important to her, so she has been very careful in the selections she's made for her closest advisors. Teoda respects honesty and courage, and has no use for people who can't or won't call her on her missteps (lovingly and respectfully, of course)  in order to help her grow.

Likes:
  • The sea. Nothing is quite so calming or Teoda as the constant murmur of the ocean. She sees it as a reflection of the Darkness, not overlooking the fact that in its depths the light grows thin. When Teoda meditates, it is on the sound of the waves that she concentrates. When she relaxes, it is the sandy shore or the sunny deck of a boat that she likes to visit. When she is troubled, staring out at the perfect vastness of it, feeling the sleeping power of the waters around her, she often finds consolation and confidence. Her duties keep her on land far more now than they used to, but she still takes every opportunity she can to leave the shore behind.

  • Being a Queen. Really, Teoda never could have been anything else. The role of queen has always seemed as intimately connected to who she is as her gender and her lineage. Her greatest achievements are when she accomplishes something worthwhile for those she's been tasked with protecting. She has always loved leading, loved learning the responsibilities and then working hard to perform them well. She loves the give and take of ruling, negotiation, the sacrifice, the problem-solving, the caring. She takes her responsibilities very seriously, and while this can sometimes lead to sleepless nights, she would not be happy in any other role.

  • Revelry. There are times to be serious. There are times to be careful. There are times to be perfectly aligned with protocol and mindful of one's posture and tone of voice. And then there are times where none of that is quite so necessary. Teoda loves life, and she works very hard at her responsibilities so that when the opportunity to play arises, she can take full advantage. Though the beachside bonfires don't occur nearly as often as they used to, they do still spring up on occasion.

    Dislikes:
  • Protocol. While she understands the purpose of it and she does abide by it, Teoda hates having to insist on protocol. She'd much rather speak to people informally for the most part, and have everyone treat one another as respectful equals.

  • Restraints. As much as she says she'd like everyone to treat each other as equals, though, she's grown quite comfortable with the fact that they don't. She's Queen, which means that inside her Province she can do just about whatever she likes. She does not like it when she runs up against someone telling her she cannot do something. If she isn't careful, sometimes her pride tempts her to do things because someone has said she ought not.

  • Being land-locked. Teoda can survive anywhere, but she needs the sea to be truly happy. Serving in La Orotava, this means she spends much of her time doing business from a seas-side vacation estate instead of the capitol. She tries to balance her time in the capitol with her time at the sea, but as often as she can she tries to breathe salty air and walk barefoot in sand.

    Fears:
  • Losing her mother. Nerissa has ever been the solid constant in Teoda's life, no matter how bad the storms get. While Teoda has by now become a comfortable and competent Queen, she depends on Nerissa's influence to keep her cognizant of the fact that she was born for greater things than she's yet encountered. She eagerly anticipates this coming trial, but she fears it some as well. While she will face whatever it is with all of the vigor and grace for which she is known, she cannot help but feel that if she had to face it without her mother's quiet and steady support, she might falter.

  • The growing corruption in Dhemlan Kaeleer.. Teoda loves her homeland, and is deeply connected to it. As much as she loves it, however, she is not blind. She can read the skies as clearly as any navigator must, and they tell her that Dhemlan is headed for either some frighteningly dark days or a cataclysm. She fears neither, but cares for the fate of her peoples should either come about.

  • Falling in love. Ain't no one got time for that. Besides, being in love seems like a restraint. Teoda has never truly been in love, but she has seen the havoc it has wreaked on those around her and fears the hold it might have over her if it ever finds her.

    Craft Strengths:
  • Queen's Gift. Teoda has always worked to be the best Queen she could be. From an early age, this mindset made Queen's craft vitally important to her. The Queen best serves her people by serving the land, whether that be the open plains or the vastness of the ocean.

  • Queen's Touch. Though caring for the land is important to Teoda, caring for the people of her land might be the only thing more important to her. Ever since losing a dear friend in her youth, one of the men bound to her, she has been especially careful of her treatment of those in her service. With so much practice, the Queen's Touch comes easily to her now.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • Protection Spells. Teoda has always attracted people to her side. She has always had friends aplenty, not to mention strong and willing males devoted to her well-being. She takes no shame in allowing them to stand as her defense, and will not entertain the idea of learning her own protection spells. As she sees it, if there ever comes to be an absence of Princes willing or able to stand for her, then she has mismanaged the loyalty of her people and should be forced to face the consequences of that.

  • Mind Delving.  Teoda is forthright and as a Queen can be, and much prefers speaking to someone to find their thoughts and opinions than taking them with Craft. Mind Delving seems like a gross trespass against personal respect, despite the fact that her status would perhaps persuade some people to allow her permission to delve as she wished. Even if someone invited her, however, the guilt and offense Teoda would feel over the act would disrupt the concentration necessary to be successful. As a Queen in treacherous waters, however, the ability to see a threat coming early would be sorely welcomed.

    History:
Teoda was born near the ocean, and to this day the sea brings her a peace and vitality that she has been unable to duplicate elsewhere. She loves the land of her home just as strongly as any Queen in Kaleer, but Teoda's connection to the environment around her does not stop at the shoreline. This has been true for the entirety of her life, ever since her mother Nerissa ushered her into the world in the year 1545 BP.

The identity of Teoda's father has never been exactly nailed down, and though Nerissa might have a few guesses, what his name once was is of little concern. He is long gone and likely has no idea he ever sired offspring after his night with the eerily beautiful sea witch. Teoda has felt no lack from his absence. Not only did she have her mother's love and abject affection without fail, Teoda was a charming and likeable girl even at a very young age. Men and women alike have been attracted to her charisma and confidence from the very beginning. Her mother encouraged this, whispering in her little girl's ear that she was special, that she was meant for great things. Teoda took these promises as sincere, and to this day holds them solidly in her heart.

Teoda and Nerissa survived happily in a seaside village during Teoda's youngest years. Nerissa made a living fishing and doing odd jobs, and by teaching the occasional Black Widow a thing or two.  She was busy, constantly busy, working hard to provide for her daughter's well-being and her future. Teoda was left to explore and play and enjoy life and the ocean, her generous freedoms nonetheless contained within a few unmovable rules. Nerissa was mother to Teoda, but she could also be quite the fearsome Queen herself, and she rarely had to worry about Teoda straying past the boundaries she set down. They were few enough, and Teoda enjoyed a sense of camaraderie with her mother even in those early years that made the child respect Nerissa without the need for frequent correction. After all, Teoda was a Queen. Until it was her turn to rule wherever she was meant to rule, it was her place to live in accordance with the rule of her Queen. While this was technically Mitra Sa Roya in a formal sense, it was Nerissa who set Teoda's range of acceptable behavior.

It was important to Nerissa that her daughter be educated properly, and when the time came Teoda was sent to Dhemlan's prestigious Naval Academy in Taragona. Teoda had been taught long before then how to handle a boat; much of her teen years were spent on the water and near it. The Academy taught her much about a broader range of ships, though, as well as tactical thinking, strategy, and formal leadership styles in addition to the standard fare of higher education. Teoda migrated to the Academy from her mother's home in the Catabria district alongside a group of long-time friends that actually made up her first, informal little court.

Being a military school, the schedule at the Academy was demanding. The proctors were strict and unyielding, and Teoda soon grew bored with the lower level classes that kept her chained indoors at a desk regardless of how bright the sun shone or how blue the waves were. Being forced to miss out on those luxuries for the sake of hearing Professor Diaz read old, withered poetry aloud with her old, withered voice seemed criminal to Teo. She and her friends began missing classes here and there, opting instead to find a sunny shore or some other entertainment. At the apex of her social circle, easily turning in solid grades without having to apply herself much, and with nothing but a bright future ahead, Teoda was by then quite cocky. Few were those who tried to deny her things outright, and fewer still were those who succeeded. Having enjoyed the adoration of so many for as long as she could remember, Teoda began to take the loyalty of those around her for granted.

Around a campfire one night after a week of classes, Teoda and those closest to her built a bonfire on the beach and had a bit of revelry amongst themselves. The group had been friends since their youngest years, most of them having come to the Academy with Teoda from the village where she'd been raised. But as they'd all grown, a pair of her males became particularly enamored with her and began competing with each other for her affection. Teoda cared for them both as any Queen does her beloved, but she was not in love with either of them. Still, their efforts were entertaining, so she did little to intervene. In fact, when the drink and the tempers got too high that weekend at the bonfire, she put a challenge to them. They were making boasts about what they might do to prove their love, and it somehow turned into a contest. The winner would be the man who travelled through the Dark Gate and brought Teo back a souvenir from Terreille. While the youths understood there were dangers involved in travelling between realms, none of them was quite acquainted with what those dangers would look like in the flesh. Only one of the two competitors made it back alive.

Teoda was crushed. She had not considered such a severe outcome a true possibility, but she realized in hindsight that this was because she'd scarcely considered the potential outcomes at all. The realization that one of her beloved friends was dead because of something she'd endorsed on a whim, carelessly, it tore her apart. She left the Academy and went home, too distraught and disgusted with herself to continue her studies. Her mother, as always, served as a port in that storm. While she did not let Teoda lose sight of the weight of the mistake she'd made, she alone was able to impress upon Teoda that life had to go on in spite of it. She used the occasion to help Teoda see how a Queen ought to serve her court, just as the court serves the Queen. Nerissa, who'd worked too hard to let Teoda's scholarship and schooling be wasted, sent Teoda back to the Academy in short order. Teoda picked up her schooling with a new sense of purpose. For a while, she overcorrected and refused any distractions at all. Over time she found her balance again and evened out, but she never forgot that terrible lesson.

After graduation, Teoda served a few years in Dhemlan's Navy, never feeling quite so at home as when she was on the water. She enjoyed her time there, but before long she felt the pull towards home. Mitra Sa Roya was Queen in La Orotava then, and Teoda left the Navy behind to serve in her court. During her time there Te watched Mitra closely, and in her study of the woman she learned to admire her. The two eventually became quite close, and Teoda learned much about running a court from the older Dhelmanese woman. Teoda still possessed the charm and congeniality she'd had since birth, and by now had tempered that youthfulness with a bit of wisdom and a carefully cultivated sense of discernment. She was effective enough that when Mitra moved to Amdarh to take over the territory's throne, she appointed Teoda to take the Province throne in her place.

    Writing Sample:

Teoda lay in bed for some time, considering the dream she'd had. She didn't understand it, but the strange images she'd seen left her feeling oddly uneasy. Once the sun rose, she decided, she would contact her mother. It'd been too long since Nerissa had visited anyway, and Teoda longed to catch up with her. Nerissa would be able to offer insight, probably, to the strange dream.

After it became clear that sleep was not returning any time soon, Teoda got up. A pair of sleepy attendants rose as well, and brought her a robe and a cloak. When Teoda stirred in the middle of the night like this, there was usually only one place she was headed.

The Queen's Residence was situated further West, a bit more inland. Teoda was rarely found there, however. She conducted most of her business at what was meant to be a vacation house situated on the coast, overlooking the water. She went to the proper Residence when receiving visitors or when protocol called for it, but given her druthers she far preferred being stationed within reach of the ocean she loved so dearly. Even on a night as black as this one, with scarcely a moon to guide her, her mind began to ease the moment she heard the soft susserance of the churning waves, and felt the ground gift way to sand beneath her bare feet. The maids who'd dressed her had seamlessly been replaced by a bonded male between the moment when she'd woken and the moment when she stepped out of doors. This time it was Renaldo, sleepy-eyed but still on point and en garde. He said not a word, and seemed unbothered by this not-so-uncommon practice. Teoda knelt in the sand near the shoreline, and sat there for some time in quiet meditation while Renaldo kept watch.

When she felt that familiar peace permeating her once again, Teoda gave thanks by way of a gift to the land. She opened her veins with craft and watched as the late hour made her dark blood seem to run black over her skin. She bled, she prayed, she gave thanks, and her soul found its equilibrium once more.

    Petitions (if any):
Why did this character became inactive?
Teoda was made for DK plots a while back, but those plots never happened.

What will you do to prevent this character from becoming inactive again?
Make new plots! And make them happen myself!

What are your plans for this character?
Teoda currently has a subplot with Tiberius Octavian to further, and will have a significant part to play in addressing the corruption that has been slowly overtaking Dhemlan, Kaeleer for some time now.

Number of previous Reactivations: 1, I think.

Changes Made to Application for Reactivation Process (if any) : None.
