* Plot Information for Dhemlan, Kaeleer

Dhemlan has become a land divided. The corruption that Witch’s Purge wiped out in the rest of the Realms was preserved by the well-meaning sacrifice of the territory’s Ebon Gray Queen. As such, the corruption here has only intensified. The tension between the Landen and the Blood who were meant to care for them is fast reaching a boiling point.

Spoiler:  Detailed Description (click to show/hide)
Personality

Personality:
Cassandria is gentle and sweet natured, yielding gracefully to her family's desire that she take over the museum someday. She has mastered historical restoration for her family, but is a notable artist with oil paints and is a respectable sculptor for herself. Where she has the most fun is in making toys and dolls that are replicas of ancient ones. They sell them at the museum as toys, although some short-lived people buy the replicas for their own collections and museums.

She loves being a Hearth-Witch, because it makes leading an elegant and rewarding life so easy. The daily use of Craft to enhance life's little pleasures is a constant delight. She adores history as it assures her that life goes on. She is shy and unassuming, choosing the quieter, almost invisible roll of caretaker and historical restoration to docent or instructor. She strives to move quietly and invisibly through the museum.

She is actually the most violent of the three sisters -  when it comes to rats, at least. While she has never lifted a hand in violence against another Blood, she has used Combat Craft against the terrifying and cunning rats. The Hearth-Which has, on occasion, had to Shield her treasures from careless vandals and angry Warlord-Princes, but that is the closest she has come to harming a person. Destroying her treasures would likely produce an uncharacteristically violent response.

Cassandria is a peacekeeper by nature, who hates conflict and strives to avoid arguments. She is much more likely to quietly observe than to criticize, and is keenly aware of social embarrassment. She hates loud groups, boisterous crowds or nosey people. The yearly family trip to the festival of Bulls is avoided if possible, while she loves Opera and Pieste performances.

She hates being the center of attention more than she hates the crowds. If a group is well behaved and does not focus its attention upon her, she can deal with them without too much stress.

Likes:
  • 1 Art. Cassandria loves art, in many forms, and is skilled at both painting and sculpting. She can sew, but uses it mainly to dress the dolls she makes.
  • 2 The Museum. Quiet and beautiful and old, the museum represents safety and security.  Her expertise in her work, and the awe of the patrons as they look at the wonders she has restored give her a centered confidence. She knows the value of her work, and takes comfort in being the invisible, magical force that brings the past alive.
  • 3 Her family. Cassandria is very happily married to the Warlord next door. Enrique is a devoted and loving husband who does not require that she be displayed on his arm or seek a more prestigious job. He centers and calms her. They are expecting, and it's hard to say who is more thrilled. While she cannot use oil or mineral based paints, nor use Craft, she can still use her sculpture skills. She ordered a fine porcelain, and has been concentrating on finishing the Museum's life-sized statues of Witch's Court. That section has been in existence since the world was rocked by the realization that Dreams-Made-Flesh walked amongst them, before even the Purge. She hopes to finish her repairs before she can no longer work. She loves her baby sister best of her birth family, and often helps her with the miniatures for her architectural projects.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Being treated like she's stupid. Oh, she is indeed the least intelligent of her siblings, but she's hardly stupid. She is reticent about voicing her ideas or opinions when they are different from strong willed or bad tempered people, but she hates when people assume her desire to avoid conflict means she's stupid.
  • 2 vandalism and graffiti. Vandals are nothing but cowardly bullies, destroying things because they are unable to create anything for themselves. Graffiti makes her furious, the defacing of public monuments as offensive to her as destroying an ancient painting or vase.
  • 3 Warlord-Prince's visiting her Museum. While her mother is busy trying to increase the number of Jeweled nobles and Naval personnel who visit her Museum, the little Hearth-Witch hates when this Caste visits. Cassandria has had to clean up after too many of the volatile Caste after they broke something accidentally or in a fit of rage if they disliked the wording on a Plaque.

    Fears:
  • 1 Politics. High Court politics have been unusually brutal and dangerous lately, with the Coven shattered and the Territory Queen changing. Her mother and both sisters seem determined to pursue a life course aimed right at those dangerous waters. Her only brother is now Territory Naval Liaison, and one of the people the shattered Coven surely blames for its woes.
  • 2 Rats. Working and growing up in a museum she is caught in an ongoing warfare with the horrid rodents. They are creepy, destructive and frighteningly clever. From knowing just which support cable will bring down an entire display to finding ways into her Museum no matter how hard she works to keep them out. If only there was a way to Purge rats!
  • 3 Tsunami. Living near the Salamanca University is not, precisely living on the coast. But in her youth, during a trip to the near by coast, Cassandria was swept up in a Tsunami. The experience left her nervous when near the sea, and terrified of drowning. But the true nightmares she has revolve around her watching the great waves destroy buildings and monuments alike. Her greater fear is for the destruction of her beloved museum.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Stealth Craft. Cassandria has mastered the art of traveling quietly, either with or without being seen. She dislikes attention, and must often work while the Museum is open. Her mother has a habit of renting out sections of the Museum that are closed for maintenance and repair without notifying her. Rather than argue with her mother or with angry children who want to be able to play with the items she is repairing, Cassandria has simply mastered stealth Craft. Learning to defeat wards and pick locks was more in line with being thorough than any notion she might actually use such Craft or physical skills. Her Landen friend, Raúl, was quite helpful in this regard.
  • 2 Hearth Craft. Cassandria likes preserving, restoring and strengthening ancient items. It can be difficult to do without inadvertently destroying ancient, fragile pieces of history. Her skill in this area allows her family to acquire things much too badly damaged for other museums to deal with, and then restore them.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Death Spells and Breaking Jewels She would be horrified to take a life, and the most violence she has ever seen directed at another human is the occasional out-of-control Warlord-Prince. She refused to learn Breaking Jewels, even in theory, fearing an accident might be horrific. How do you practice destroying Jewels without Breaking someone?
  • 2 Empathic Craft. Shy, and avoidant of conflict, she was deeply curious about learning this area of Craft, expecting it to ease her social anxiety. The very first lesson involved blurting out an embarrassing secret in front of the class (the teacher demonstrating the efficacy of the Craft). She never went back, and her failure in this area is one of the major concerns of her family, and why so many think she is less than bright.

    Life Story

    Family:
    Maternal Great-Grandfather:
Iñaki Chavez, M4,502 as of 192 AP, b. -4,310 BP ❧ Tiger Eye to Summer Sky ❧ Prince.
Jewels from Cassandria Chavez Family Rolls.
Professor Emeritus of Salamanca University, Valencia - Science and Medicine, Doctoral degree in mathematics. His students were often Landen, attending to become herb-and-knife healers. He became a great fan of the Landen, especially bull fighting. He sponsors a Toreador family (The Mata Family), although they never place well as he insists they spend part of the year at University learning the origins and history of their craft. While officially it is his Queen great-Granddaughter who is the sponsor, he takes great personal interest in every aspects of their life. (Queens as sponsors get a lot more perks and better box seats. Otherwise his box seat is based upon how they placed last year). Being retired, he helps out at the family museum both as a docent and helping to authenticate items. His wife inherited the museum, and in turn passed it on to their granddaughter, Desideria.

    Maternal Grandfather:
Edur Chavez, M3,952 as of 192 AP, b. -3,760 BP ❧ Tiger Eye to Summer Sky ❧ Warlord.
Jewels from Consuella Chavez Family Rolls.
Research Librarian at Salamanca University's Historical Library. An accomplished linguist, he is noted for his ability to translate accurately and he has an exquisitely clear hand. He has taught all of his children and grandchildren the art of Calligraphy, although he finds Illumination a wasteful extravagance. His favorite period is the Age of Chaos, during which Dhemlan coalesced as a nation and the culture first took on the current form. He is very aware of the loss of art and music amongst his people due to the constant avarice for more. He dislikes the Chavez museum as most of their items are too recent for his tastes, but still does most of his papers on their items, and spends time as a Docent. He also cruelly consigns entire classes of undergrads to volunteer at the museum, and write papers on the items. (Adoptable)

    Maternal Grandmother:
    Felipa Chavez, F3,800 as of 192 AP, b. -3,788 BP ❧ White - Rose ❧ Witch.
Jewels from Corazon Chavez Family Rolls.
Professor of Art History, at Zaragoza, with a specialty in Landen Bullfighting. She grew up with the sport, and shares her father's passion for it. She does not have a Doctoral degree, as she keeps changing her mind as to which aspect of Art History she most wants to pursue. She had been reluctantly pursuing a Fine Arts degree when she realized her baby girl Desideria was a talented Hearth-Witch who loved the museum. She gleefully consigned the awkward burden of the Museum to her daughter and father. She still assists at the museum. Being the head of the docents and in charge of all of their public events. Her broad, rather than specialized education makes her very good at identifying and finding unique pieces for the exhibits. (Adoptable)

    Maternal Uncle
Ceasar Chavez, M3,000 as of 192 AP, b. 2,808 BP, ❧ Tiger Eye to Summer Sky ❧ Prince.
Jewels from Consuella Chavez Family Rolls
A specialist in item creation and enhancement, he is a phenomena in his field, mastering techniques for subtly enhancing and strengthening materials. One of his many gifts is making things hold quite a bit more power than their physical structure would normally tolerate, but he is also quite good with whimsical, one-use only items. (Kookie NPC then PC)

    Mother:
    Desideria Chavez, F2,557 as of 192 AP, b. -2,365 BP ❧ Rose to Purple Dusk ❧ Hearth-Witch.
Jewels from Cassandria Chavez Family Rolls.
Art Historian and Curator of the Chavez Museum. The final say on displays, items and staff all rest with this beautiful and renowned woman. Her skill at navigating politics led her to successfully leverage the birth of not only a Priestess, but also a Queen, into a much higher quantity and quality of clientele. Her family's long association with the University had led to the Museum resembling a research facility rather than art gallery, but she has changed all of that. She offers one day a month free access to each College, and every Tuesday is Tidal Tuesday, where naval personnel get in at half price. She has sections on each known territory in Kaeleer, designed around the needs of the Navy and Merchant Marine, so they are not wholly unprepared for their tours of duty. For a small fee, she will prepare a briefing packet on local customs and current politics for Ship's Captains, specific to their itinerary. This has become very successful, and she is in negotiations with the Naval Command that would result in a sizable contract to provide such packets officially, for every ship. (Adoptable)

    Father:
Adrian Chavez, M3,002 as of 192 AP, b. -2,810 BP ❧ Summer Sky to Purple Dusk ❧ Prince.
Jewels from Corazon Chavez Family Rolls.
Steward of the Museum, finances and the small, detailed displays are his province. Unlike his wife, he works everyday at the museum, seeing to its day-to-day operations. He has a slew of degrees, one for every section of the Museum, or so he jokes. But the truth is simply that he loves knowledge, and the sheer power of holding an ancient artifact in his hands has never lost its wonder. (Adoptable)

    Siblings:
  • Caelestis (of the sky, heavenly) Chavez M1,802 as of 192 AP, b. -1,600 BP ❧ Opal to Sapphire ❧ (Second Escort at the Territory Court). ❧ Jewels from Consuella Chavez Family Rolls. (Idariel NPC future PC)
  • (me) Consuella Chavez, F1,702 as of 192 AP, b. -1,510 BP ❧ uncut Yellow to uncut Rose ❧ Priestess. Rolled Jewels. (Instructor at Dhemlan, Kaeleer's Salamanca University: Pais Vasco College). (Idariel PC)
  • Cassandria Chavez, F1,600 as of 190 AP, b. -1,410 BP ❧ Rose to Opal ❧ Hearth-witch. Rolled Jewels. (Degree in Art Restoration and Fabrication, she works full time at the museum restoring and preserving the history of their land). (Idariel PC)
  • Corazon Chavez, F1,502 as of 192 AP, b. -1,310 BP ❧ Rose to Opal ❧ Queen ❧ Jewels from Phinneas. (The eternal student, with a bachelor's degree from each College, but a real love of Architecture and Mathematics). (Idariel PC)

    Other Important People
  • Adalita Zabala, Consuella's Best Friend, F1802 as of 192 AP, b. -1,500 BP, ❧ Tiger-Eye to Summer Sky ❧ Black Widow. She was a fellow student of the girl's college, and sufficiently intelligent to delight in Consuella's somewhat odd world view, but practical enough to steer the Priestess clear of social disasters. Adalita helps with difficult cases where spiritual and mental damage over laps, and also keeps a close eye on Consuella's sanity. She teaches the Black Widow Caste, but has a Doctoral Degree in Dream Interpretation and Inspired Visions. The two collaborate regularly, and Adalita has occasionally joined Consuella's travels to other Territories. (Kookie PC)
  • Ánton Chavez,Uncle, Sentinel in charge of Consuella's safety, M2,214 as of 192 AP, b. -2,402 BP, ❧Rose to Opal ❧ Warlord. Jewels from Consuella Chavez Family Rolls. Ánton is anything but an intellectual. He loves adventure and travel, and works hard to protect Consuella from not only danger, but the harsher truths of life. The freedom he gets from his skill at Travel Craft led to a fascination with Coaches and Item Enhancement. While he did receive a four year degree to appease his parents and grandparents, it was in Physical Education. It has only been since Consuella's obsession with traveling that he received further education ... And not at the University. He went to a Trade School and built Consuella's Coach himself. (Adoptable)
  • Raúl Mata, Favorite Janitor, M502 as of 192 AP, b. -310 BP, ❧ Landen. His family hasn't served the Chavez for generations; but his great-great-great-great grandfather was a student of Iñaki Chavez's. In fact, his family have been Toreros for a long time, and are the unfortunate recipients of a sponsorship from the Chavez Museum. The Mata Toreros now have sufficient income to be safe year round, but they also study their own history part of the year. He, however, found himself allergic to hay (and maiming). He works at the Chavez Museum, and provides helpful social advice on which events Consuella cannot afford to avoid, as well as being a wise and cautious man who respects the limits around safe handling of Craft (or spirit) imbued items. Cassandria works often with him, and finds him soothing. If Corazon sometimes suspects he has ties to the Landen Council, it only guarantees that she answers his questions about politics and Craft quite accurately. (Adoptable - plots! Secrets!)
    Spoiler: Secret! (click to show/hide)
  • Enrique Peña Chavez,, Cassandria's Husband, DECEASED 191 AP, b. -1910 BP, ❧ Tiger Eye to Summer Sky ❧ Warlord.
Jewels from Cassandria Chavez Family Rolls. Enrique is a determined man, not easily swayed once he has made up his mind about something. He courted his wife (and her family) determinedly, for half a Millennium, even earning a doctoral degree to please them (Military History: The Evolution of the Longblade in Dhemlan). He works at the Museum, including doing demonstrations of crafting blades of all sorts, with and without Craft. He loves the museum, and he and his wife often spend their date-day wandering the halls after the museum has closed. (Doomed.)
  • 'Cousin' Cirino Chavez, M1502 as of 192 AP, b. 1490 AP, ❧ Rose to Summer-Sky ❧ Warlord.
Jewels from Corazon Chavez Family Rolls
Corazon's first Bonded. He was a surprise, the 'son' of her Uncle Ceasar Chavez. He has a secretive, checkered past and a truly alarming grasp of warfare. He offers private tutoring to select students, has an inexhaustible supply of ready money, and many 'friends' who come and go at odd hours. He is a private man, with the need for regular time away, out on the open sea.  Consuella doesn't doubt his loyalty, but his name, heritage, Caste and friends are all highly questionable. (Idariel NPC/future PC - plots and secrets!)
    Spoiler: Secrets (click to show/hide)
    History:

    Spoiler:  Timeline (click to show/hide)

Cassandria's gentle nature began as she grew to understand her brilliant and rather odd oldest sister. Even as Consuella makes an effort to listen to Cassandria, so the younger Hearth-Witch makes the effort to soothe and relax the Priestess. She has always understood that her birth was less of a gift to her mother, than to her sister.

While too shy to desire to emulate her mother's role in the Chavez Heritage Museum, there is no denying that being the heir gives her exactly the life she wants: one of invisible purpose. Even as people rarely think about the tiny bit of glue that keeps the soles of their shoes intact, so she has carved out a quiet life of the hands that masquerades as the life of the mind her family expects of her.

She delayed going to University as long as her family would permit, and was a mediocre student. Not because she is stupid; she's quite bright. But the noise, energy, and social pressure was extremely difficult for her. This impacted many classes like speech, acting, and even some of her art classes. Her baby sister, Corazon attended with her but the little Queen had wildly different classes. Cassandria found it odd that Corazon took the lead in helping Cassandria cope with school, rather than the other way around. She was the older sister, after all.

Cassandria escaped college life as soon as possible, claiming her responsibilities at the Museum were too critical to put off. Her Doctoral Practium was Oral, and quite difficult for her, but nothing was as hard as defending her Thesis. She did manage, with Adalita's subtle help, and has her Doctoral degree. Once returned to her proper place, this time with the skills to excel, she was extremely happy. Her friend Raúl eagerly attended any seminar or lecture that she could not make, and took excellent notes. He was prone to take random courses at University, rather than perusing a degree, and Cassandria was perhaps the only member of her family not to push him to attain more.

When she was just about one thousand, her school girl crush returned home from his naval service. The two began a long, sweet courtship designed to assure her worried family that he could make her happy. His fighting skills and military background easily dovetailed into a college degree her family could approve, but he made it his own by learning to craft the swords he so loved.

The Purge was a terrible and bitter event. Her family had been gathered, at a centennial celebration for a powerful Queen who was a patron of the Museum. The extravaganza was an example of the worst excesses, complete with the Queen playing a game involving ordering guests to ingest assorted designer drugs. Her own family, with limited political protections, was a logical scapegoat. Combine that with Corazon's dangerously unpredictable response to these designer drugs and known preference for sobriety, and the Queen in question had a unique entertainment no other hostess would be able to match.

The unexpected result was that the Chavez family survived. Their complete helplessness and inebriation resulted in their minds and bodies being intact, while their hostess and her Court were mindless, burnt out husks.

Cassandria experienced the Purge only very distantly, for the crashing tidal wave of power was so like the Tsunami she had endured as to push her to the edge of catatonic. She was exceedingly grateful for the cushioning effects of the drugs.

After a five-hundred year courtship they were wedded in the Chavez Heritage Museum only decades after Witch's brutal Purge turned the rest of Kaeleer into chaos. Her greatest fear at the time was that her Enrique would be called back to war.

Only recently have the two decided to start a family of their own. It's time for the next docent of the Chavez Museum to be born.

As she was near to term, she overheard a deadly conspiracy and had to flee her home. Her husband died to protect her, and now she is hiding.

    Show Us What You've Got

    Character in Play:
Cassandria shivered a bit, the cool morning breeze caressing her shoulders but leaving a chill that ate right down her spine. She moved over to snuggle into Enrique's warmth, but he wasn't there. She opened one eye quite slowly, puzzled when bright mid-morning light assaulted her, along with the scent of slightly scorched toast and singed eggs.

She started to giggle, and shook her head. Her stomach, always hungry these days, began to simultaneously demand food and roil in protest. Pain stung her finger tips the moment she attempted to reach for Power, interrupting both her habitual warming spell and her thought to Cleanse the house of the smells bothering her hyper-sensitive stomach. She winced, caressed her stomache, and stood slowly. No Craft, not for her. She wrapped a warm, fluffy pink robe about herself, slipped into her lady-bug slippers and stealthed down stairs to the family kitchen.

Enrique's smooth baritone rang out, singing an old, romantic love song as he toiled over her lovely stove, leaving pancake batter and syrup splatters liberally decorating it. He seemed oblivious to the intense burn smells that so disturbed her. "Enrique ... " Her laughter still colored her voice and she could not bear to undermine his sweet gift by admitting she dreaded eating it. "Aren't you late going to work?"

He may have only just wed the love of his life, but Enrique had courted her one way or another for five-hundred years, so he effortlessly decoded this as a reprimand for letting her oversleep. She liked to arrive at the Museum well before dawn, but the Warlord and Hearth-Witch were deep in the midst of a power struggle. He wasn't about to let his pregnant wife walk to or from work in the dark. And she was about to see what made all those boring military texts useful: superior tactics.

Enrique turned with a grin and swept his beautiful wife into a hug. "I work for your mother, remember? She decreed that your hours are cut ... And you are to take a long lunch break every day." He paused, watching her eyes widen, timing his reply to disarm. "Since you are up early we could walk down to your favorite cafe?" He nuzzled the sweet spot in her neck, his voice dropping an octave. "Or go right back up stairs ..."

Cassandria felt a spurt of anger, faster and fiercer than she was accustomed too; it was swiftly followed by the threat of tears, and an irrational sense of being ganged up on. But Cassandria just let the emotions play themselves out, sheltering in her husband's arms. She had read enough to understand the swirling emotions inherent in pregnancy, even if she wasn't really prepared for them. She glanced up at her husband, long lashes veiling her eyes, and murmured softly, "Why not both?" she gave a startled yelp as he picked her up and carried her upstairs. She obligingly kicked off her slippers on the stairs, "I'm still going to work lat, Enrique. You and mother do not get to ..." He muffled her protest with a hungry kiss, and pain laced through her again as she tried to continue her protest mind-to-mind.

It was oddly intoxicating, making love without mind-touch. Much like being blindfolded, or bound,  her other senses were heightened, the heat and feel of his body intensified.
