Anthony loved summer time. He also happened to love the autumn. Perhaps that was why that transition time just when the leaves were beginning to turn but the sun was still so sweetly warm against his skin was his absolute favorite time of year. It had all the beauty of autumn with the warmth and affection of summer. The horses certainly loved it too, and training the yearling was about twelve times easier when the season was changing than in the heat of summer when they were grumpy and fidgety because of the heat.

Today Ant wasn't training the yearlings, though. He was out and about, making his way through town on the back of Loverboy - a young and flirty steed the color of fresh straw with a pure white starburst on his forehead. He didn't ride in a saddle, and steered the horse with the nudging of his knees and his hands in the young stallion's mane. The two moved like a single unit, familiar with each other, almost of one mind.

Growing up around horses certainly had something to do with it, but the seamless companionship between these two also had something to do with the fact that they had similar personalities and both craved copious amounts of attention for just about anyone who would lavish it upon them. The attention was fairly easy for the handsome young stallion to come by. He could trot up to just about anyone and give then a little nuzzle or prance around and he'd have people mooning over him left and right. Young ladies or children were the best. Still, in order to have that opportunity he needed to be out and about.

Anthony, while a very handsome man himself with a charming enough persona that he typically had little trouble getting attention, didn't have the advantage of the same innocent and awing allure of the blonde stallion. Together, they were able to mingle and flirt effortlessly and with little to no boundaries.

They really did make a perfect team.

"That's a good lad, how about we pause here for a moment yeah?" He patted the horses neck as he slowed to a stop beside the town's center fountain, swinging himself off in a smooth and practiced motion. A little bit of craft guided his descent and helped him stick the landing, then he used one hand to balance himself against his companion while he called in the bottom half of his left leg. A practiced little dance later, and he was as whole as he'd ever be. Letting his pant leg down, he patted the horse's neck with a grin. "Atta boy, thanks buddy. Get yourself something to drink now and then we'll see about a little shopping yeah?" And maybe a little bit of other fun along the way as well.

Summer’s heat was fading and Autumn had arrived. Emma couldn’t wait for the seasonal rites. The golds, oranges, and browns of the leaves and the cooler weather made her happier. She’d secured the distillery earlier in the week and Godfrey was home once more. She’d left him home to work on a few projects while Bevan accompanied her to the small town of Connington a few days after the distillery’s purchase. Monday morning was the start of the interviews for the position of Court Steward. Emma wasn’t looking forward to it, the very thought enough to sour her mood.

Bevan must have picked up on it because he nudged her gently with his elbow.

You’re doing that quiet-broody thing again, my lady. You’ve been that way since Prince Halfway-Up-His-Own-Ass showed up again.” Bevan said, using his preferred moniker for Godfrey. Emma not-quite glared at him and Bevan said nothing for a moment, walking quietly with her down the road.

I wish you two would come to terms, Bevan. Godfrey’s not your enemy and you shouldn’t be his.” Emma said, reaching out to catch Bevan’s hand in hers. Bevan grunted, annoyed, but said nothing for a moment.

Why is he First Escort, Emma? He doesn’t know you. He’s been gone for five years. He’s probably got all kinds of secrets he’s not telling you about.” Bevan said.

Emma took a deep breath, forcing herself not to get angry with her male. Bevan was hurt, taken aback at not being offered the First Escort position, but this would pass. She told herself that every time he started in on Godfrey’s qualifications. And every time it happened, Emma grew a little more certain that Bevan just wasn’t going to get past this on his own.

Her annoyance abated at the sight of the horse.

Emma liked horses. Not as much as Margaret Webster, perhaps, but they were magnificent creatures all the same. Greystone could use one or two. She wanted Rowen and Morgan to grow up with horses, to enjoy riding them and watching them. She hoped Jorie would be on board with it. If not, she’d just have to sweet-talk the High Priestess into it.

Emma moved forward, reaching out to touch the mare, brushing the space between his eyes.

And what is your name, my darling? Are you having a decent day?” Emma asked.

She’d not quite registered the male who owned this one, so focused was she on the horse in question.

Anthony had taken a seat on the other side of Loverboy, perched on the edge of the fountain as he called in a bottle of water for himself and rehydrated. From there, he didn't immediately notice the approach of the Lady and her escort. Oh sure, he vaguely registered the mull of conversation - but that was just being in town. At least, it was just the voice of the town until she was right there, with only the young stallion between them - her voice warm and sweet as she spoke.

'And what is your name, my darling? Are you having a decent day?'

Something in the voice pulled to him. Magnetically. For a man who had been waiting for this all his life he surprisingly didn't recognize the warning sign - and instead merely cocked his head curiously and looked over. Unable to see much around the horse as he flirted with the pretty Lady -nickering and nosing at her hand, lipping gently at her fingers for treats- he pushed himself up to stand and crossed his arms over the stallion's strong back. There was a playful grin on his face already, in place to accompany one of the many smooth lines he was going to pull from as a way to start a conversation.

The words died on his lips and his eyes widened as he saw her, as her scent touched him. His mouth opened, then shut, his heart tight as it pulled with a hard and resounding

"Mine."

He didn't even really register that the word had left his lips in a breathless exhale. He blinked a few times, a rather stupid sort of grin unfolding across his face as he stood up and rounded the horse without ever taking his eyes off of her.

"I mean. Loverboy." He cleared his throat. "Name. Stallion boy horse love." What? The blush on his face was uncommon to those who knew him, little could embarrass the Warlord Prince. "I mean. The horse - his name is Loverboy. I'm Anthony." There was that grin again, bright and excited and eager to please. A veritable puppy.

Emma laughed as the horse lipped her hand, the sensation tickling her skin. She didn’t know a lot about horses, but she thought that was a good sign. It wasn’t trying to kick her in the head and, thereby, kill her so Emma would take that and go with it. She continued whispering to the creature softly and assuring it that she meant it no harm. Bevan stood by quietly, saying nothing, but clearly unhappy at having their discussion interrupted.

The male stepped into her peripheral, but Emma was still entranced by the horse. It was only when the word left his lips that Emma’s gaze flickered over to him. She might have discounted him altogether on a normal day. Her eyes caught his, though, and Emma couldn’t look away. The horse itself fell to the periphery of her mind and thoughts as Emma pulled away to regard the Warlord Prince that claimed her.

She felt the surge of anger from Bevan, already reaching for his weapon.

Prince Halloran, attend.” she said, her gaze never leaving that of the man before her.

I mean. Loverboy.

Emma’s brow furrowed in confusion. His name...was Loverboy? Well, all right. It was an unfortunate name for a man. She wanted to ask why his parents would name him so, but he spoke before she could.

Name. Stallion boy horse love.

Emma didn’t even want to consider what that meant.

My name is Emma Morgan. Do you know who I am?” she asked. She reached out toward him, laying a hand along his face if he allowed it. She tried, as hard as she could, to channel the peace of her Touch into him. But the current was weak, like a witchlamp that had gone dim from prolonged use. She hated herself for that. She couldn’t give him what she wanted, what he needed from him.

"I mean. The horse - his name is Loverboy. I'm Anthony."

Emma couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled forth as Anthony finally introduced himself without error. Now she knew that the horse was Loverboy and that her male, her male, was Anthony. She wanted to take him somewhere and just sit with him for awhile and learn everything she could learn about him. She loved his beard. It wasn’t as precise and neat as Godfrey’s, but Emma loved it all the same. She loved his hair, too. She wanted to run her fingers through it, wanted to lay his head in her lap while he read to her and tangled her fingers in every strand.

Prince Anthony, this is Prince Bevan Halloran, also in my service.” she said warmly, introducing the other Warlord Prince. Bevan’s expression was made of stone, flat and neutral, except for a Protocol-perfect nod of the head.

Are you hungry? We were going to get something to eat.” Emma said, gesturing to a tavern down the street.

We’d like it if you joined us.”

Anthony’s eyes flicked over to Mr. GrumbleButt beside his Queen, able to sense the tension but really not caring too much about it as soon as his Lady seemed to have it under control. He was still floating pretty high on the whole finding his heart Queen thing. It was pretty damn sweet. Fucking amazing. Or, as he would say around his niece — fudgetacularly awesome.

Except better.

Still wearing a bit of a dazed smile, he gave a perfect bow - to the degree of Protocol that many would not assume a country bumpkin (as charming and darling as he was) perhaps would be familiar with. At least, not familiar with enough to be able to perform it on the spot while his mind was whirling. The set of his shoulders, the angle of his bow, even the slight shift in the placement of his feet reflected their formal official relationship of Warlord Prince to Queen, Purple Dusk to Tiger Eye. But the slight angle of his body also reflected his acknowledgment that she had an escort, that they were unfamiliar with each other, and the little nod at the end of the bow, where his eyes closed briefly, expressed a trust that they were of mutually friendly company.

His bow to Prince Halloran when the other man was formally introduced was similarly on point and flawlessly complex. Anthony had been obsessed with Protocol since he was young. He was homegrown, yes - but he’d studied and studied hard every volume on Protocol he could get his hands on - from the highly traditional to the newer interpretations. Perhaps he would have done better to devote some of that studying to arithmetic but hey… some people had to pick their battles.

Somewhere in-between her introduction of Prince Halloran and her offer to join them for a meal, her name registered.

He blinked, his eyes grew misty and his heart swelled.

Emma Morgan. Lady Emma Morgan. He had found his Queen. And.. she was a Cymrean Queen. He knew now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Cymrea would return. The Mother had brought him to the woman who would lead them there. It was time.

He took a moment to steady himself, to take a slow breath, then he gave her a wide, uninhibited, brilliant smile. It was full of joy and hope and just.. unbridled happiness.

“I have waited my entire life to join you, my Lady. Even a meal beside you would make my spirit soar.” He kissed two fingers and pressed them over his heart with another small bow - this one not according to Protocol, but rather a reflection of honor his father had taught him a long time ago.

Anthony’s joy was mirrored by her own, reverberating through the bond between them. He’d been this close to her home for so long and she’d never seen him, it made her heart hurt a little but she did not dwell upon it. Jorie would tell her that Mother Night put them in each other’s paths because now was the time for them to meet. Emma had to believe that. She stepped forward and gently laid her hand over his hand, the one over his heart. She wished, briefly, that she could grant him her Touch and show him that Mother Night had placed him into capable hands. Some males feared the Bond, hated it because they only saw that it meant a loss of the independence that they thought the craved. Some even considered a loss of freedom that they didn’t seek, but was forced upon them.

Emma would never force any of her males to remain at her side, but Anthony didn’t know that.

Instead, she would give him reasons to stay.

You need wait no longer, my Warlord Prince. You'd honor me by joining us.” Emma said, looking up into his eyes. If he allowed it, Emma took Anthony’s hand in her own. It was rough and calloused from years of work, but his grasp was still gentle. She held that hand possessively, walking with her head held high so that everyone within eyesight saw her with both her males and understood that the Queen was proud of both of them. Her free hand went to Bevan’s back, fingertips pressed against his shoulder blade. The number of males around her grew and it was further loyalty that she could call to her side in times as dangerous as these. Margaret Webster and her people would keep tabs on her Court and all of the men and women who served her. Emma could not stop it, but she could give the Province Queen reason to pause, a reason to know that Emma was growing stronger.

Prince Anthony, I would like to learn everything about you. I know that we can’t do it in an afternoon, but I’d like to start today. Loverboy seems well-behaved. I know little about horses but I’d like to know more.” she said.

Do you need time to secure him? We can wait while you do so.” she said, waiting for him to respond.

The silly, buoyant grin remained quite solidly in place as his Queen (his Queen!!!!) spoke and reached out to place her hand over his. He twisted his hand to catch hers and bring it up to his lips, his eyes drifting shut as he pressed a firm kiss to her knuckled, breathing out a soft sigh of joy - of excitement. And, somewhere behind the energy, of contentment.

That she maintained contact by grasping his hand had him practically aflutter and he squeezed her hand to let her know that he was honored she would hold it. It had never occurred to him, not before this very moment, that there might have been a chance that his Queen would have been one for a political distance - and he was endlessly grateful that his Lady wasn't imposing one now. Not now, not when he needed to touch her. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and pull her close, bury his face against that thick dark hair and breathe in deeply, fill his lungs with her and let it infuse his entire body with her.

"You can just call me Anthony," he said with a playful, wicked little grin and a wink. "Or Ant. Or Loverboy if you really want." His tone was teasing, making fun of himself in how he had been so incoherent she'd thought he was introducing himself as Loverboy, and also just on the playful side of suggestive.

He didn't take it any further than that though as he squeezed her hand again and raised the other one to stroke down the stallion's neck. "Nah, he's a good boy. If he gets too bored here he'll just start heading home on his own. But I'll leave him free to flirt with the girlies." He gestured toward where there was a group of young girls with flowers in their hands, eyeing the magnificent horse and his mane as if he were something from a dream.

His eyes went back to the Lady and he gave her his full attention then. "Anything you want to know, my Lady, you've only to ask." Still said with a grin, but there was also something more level, more serious in his eyes as well. His life was her will. Anything she asked of him and she would have it. Of that he was certain, and wholeheartedly willing.

That silly grin of his warmed Emma’s heart. He seemed thrilled to have found her on the streets of Connington, rather than in the halls of her Court. Emma preferred meeting Anthony this way, rather than during the pomp and circumstance of Court. Bevan had held himself in check thus far, but she couldn’t imagine Bevan and Godfrey both doing so without getting snarly about their newest bond-brother. She sent her affection across the bond toward Bevan, letting him know that she’d not forgotten, even as Anthony took up the greater share of her focus right now.

Very well, Prince Anthony.” Emma said, smiling at him. This one was trouble. Emma saw it in that wicked grin of his, the one that made her stomach flip just a little when he turned it on her. She laughed when he said that she could call him Loverboy if she wanted. But it would be weird to call him by the same name as his horse.

I think I’ll stick with your given name, just to remind you, my dear Prince. You’ve already forgotten it once today.” she said, teasing him a little.

When Anthony was ready to go, Bevan would lead them through the streets to their original destination. While people hastened to get out of the path of the Warlord Princes, they noted their Queen. A few people waved to Emma in greeting, and Emma smiled and waved back in return. She reminded herself to talk to Godfrey and whoever he new Steward would be about a tour of the District as soon as possible. The thought of her new Steward darkened Emma’s mood some and Anthony would sense it just as Bevan did.

The Roaring Lion Tavern was full of tables of dark wooden tables. Servers bustled to and fro, bringing out meals and refilling mugs or pitches of ale, water, and wine. In a far corner, someone played a woodwind instrument, keeping the mood within very light. Nearby, a fire roared inside of a massive fireplace, making the entire room much warmer than the gentle bite of Autumn outside.

Conversation stilled as Bevan entered. Few people wanted to cross a Warlord Prince of any stripe and Bevan’s scowl made a few people rethink their choice of dining establishments. Bevan secured a booth in a corner, and Emma lead Anthony to that booth, sliding in and sitting down. Bevan sat across from them and nodded to Anthony.

Welcome to the group, Prince Baelfor. I’ll buy the first round of drinks. Always good to welcome a new brother in our midst.” Bevan said, sizing up the other male.

There’s a lot I’d like to know about you, Anthony. Let’s start with the easy stuff first.

Are you from Connington? Do you have family here?
” she asked.

"A man could forget a great many things when faced with a beauty such as yours, my Lady," he batted back to her sweetly with a wink, bringing her hand up to his lips again and kissing it, letting his lip catch over her knuckles in a playful flirt.

It was interesting, the difference between the aura about the two Warlord Princes as they strolled through town - though Anthony wasn't particularly paying attention to it. No, he was entirely focused on the lovely Lady (lovely Queen -- his Queen!!) on his arm as they made their way down the street and toward the tavern where they were to catch their lunch. Otherwise he may have made the observation that it was odd to see people scurry out of his way (even if they weren't really scurrying for him). Anthony was a Warlord Prince, yes, and he fully embraced his Warlord Prince-ness, sure. But he wasn't really your typical growly, scowly, broody, rip-your-face-off Warlord Prince. He was more the happy, bouncy, cuddly, sex-you-up Warlord Prince. He could get his growl on if he needed to - but most of the time he was happy just to enjoy himself.

And how could he not enjoy himself with the lovely Lady Emma Morgan by his side smiling at him?

They entered the Roaring Lion and Anthony spared his attention away from Emma just long enough to wave and smile dashingly at those he recognized. He'd been in here before and it was always a delight. The people were nice, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and friendly. It was as he was doing this that he noted some of them seemed wary or disconcerted and he followed one of those uncertain glances to the other Warlord Prince. He almost frowned at the other man, but kept his reaction to merely a concerned puckering of his brow, which eased instantly as he slid into the booth beside Emma and pressed a sweet kiss to her cheek.

The other Warlord Prince finally spoke to him and he rose a brow, curious if this was really how he felt and he was naturally kind of grumpy, or if he was lying for their Lady's sake.

Either way, he flashed him a bright grin. "Then the second round is on me." He winked sidelong to Emma. "It's always nice to be welcomed."

Whether he actually was or not, he appreciated the thought. He wasn't planning on going anywhere either way, and he wasn't going to let Prince Grumpy bring him down from the happy cloud he was floating on. He was sure they'd get along just fine. They both served and adored the Lady, after all.

"Ah, I'm from a few miles down the road actually," he responded to the Lady's question - teeth flashing in another grin. "My family raises horses. Can't quite do that the best in the middle of town. We've got a decent sized ranch, and there's a fair gaggle of us between my parents, me, my brother, and his little family." His grin brightened. "Oh, you've got to meet the little Lady. My niece. She would absolutely love to meet you!"

Anthony was charming and easy to talk to. Emma liked his hands, strong and work-worn as they were. Emma could see that he was irking Bevan, but she wasn’t ready to cut the day short. The Darkness had bound her to this new male for a reason, one that would make itself known in time. But she couldn’t let the discomfort or annoyance of one of her males drive away another. Bevan was at least trying to place nice, though, so that took some of the edge out of the moment. Godfrey would like Anthony, especially since they both loved horses. Godfrey would have someone to share his hobby with.

Well, I do want you to feel welcome, Prince Anthony. As I said, I want to know everything about you. And yes, I’d like to meet your niece when you’re comfortable with that.” Emma said, as a waitress brought them drinks. The waitress tried to bow to her, but Emma waved her off. She didn’t want anyone to make a scene while she enjoyed the company of her males. The interview with father’s choice for Steward was on Monday and Emma wasn’t looking forward to it. Anthony’s presence was soothing, though.

She looked Bevan, though, when Anthony mentioned that his family raised horses. Her gaze returned to Anthony and her smile was still pleasant, but different now. More calculating.

Did you know that, Prince Anthony, that before we ran into you, Prince Bevan and I were actually discussing horses? Lady Webster raises horses. Hers are said to be the finest in Dharo, with a derby winner among them.” Emma said.

I’m ashamed to say that I know nothing about horses. I think the few minutes I spent with Loverboy is the first time that one didn’t spook.” she said, ducking her bashfully.

I wanted to learn more about them, but I don’t have a teacher.” she said, letting her fingertips brush against Anthony’s forearm as she looked up into the Warlord Prince’s eyes.

Anthony had to chuckle, and there was amusement dancing in his eyes and along his smile as he took up her hand again, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles before lifting it to his lips for a playful kiss. It wasn't that he didn't notice the irritation of the other Warlord Prince, or even that he didn't care, he just... couldn't not be himself. Anthony had no desire to make waves (at least not right now and certainly not with another one of his Lady's favored), but he just wasn't very good at holding himself back. Especially when he was in such a bright and brilliant mood. He had his Lady. His Queen. His beautiful, wonderful, Cymrean Queen. It was like his fate was now locked in and he couldn't have brought himself down from that cloud of pure and happy joy even if he tried - even if he wanted to.

"There's no need to charm me," he said with a wink as she smiled at him, right into his eyes, and touched his arm like that. "I'd be more than happy to teach you about horses. Get you used to them, get them used to you. If you're in need of a good mount we've several fine ones. None quite as brilliant and shining as Loverboy, but Rosie has a similar temperament even if she is one of the youngest." Not that she was still a filly or anything, but she was barely an adult and clearly still thought she was the little girl she was last spring as she pranced around and teased the other mares.

He gave a soft snort at the idea of Lady Webster, though. Not out of immediate disrespect - but more out of his own pride. "Yes, yes, and I know well of Lady Webster and her prize winners - but only because she's already got a name to her." He winked, all that cheer right back in place.

"But there's nothing quite as lovable or as reliable as a Baelfor horse. That I can promise you." He grinned and leaned a bit closer. "Nothing quite as lovable or reliable as a Baelfor in general if I do say so myself there, as well, Lady."

Emma had encountered a number of Warlord Princes in her time, but Anthony was by far the most jovial (if any Warlord Prince could be described that way) she’d found. That he was hers only deepened her warm smile. She considered the two Warlord Princes before her. Bevan wasn’t nearly as dour as he portrayed himself, but he was also still smarting that he’d been placed in the First Circle rather than within the Triangle. Emma owned her part of the blame for Bevan’s mood, but she expected that he’d get past it in time. She let Bevan feel her affection for him through the Bond and was rewarded when her first Bonded male relaxed just a bit beside.

She returned her attention to Anthony.

She returned his smile, studying the powerful, work-worn hand that practically engulfed her own. He wasn’t putting on airs for her benefit. His confidence was refreshing. Gwen would either love him or hate him, Emma couldn’t decide which. The odds of finding a male that possessed exactly the skills that she needed today were extremely slim, making Emma understand what Jorie once told her: The Darkness has a plan for us all. Emma wasn’t overly pious. She paid the right lip service to the Priestesshood and the Darkness at the right times to guide her Court and her people. But this moment took away the stinging disappointment that was sure to arrive in her future.

Then it’s settled. We’ll arrange a time for you to visit Greystone and begin my lessons.” Emma said.

Once we’re done here, I’d like to see your family’s ranch. You said it was just a few miles from here?” she asked, confirming what he’d told her earlier. .

Emma took a sip of her drink. She had not framed her idea as a request because she wanted to see how he’d react to an impromptu visit. If he was embellishing any part of his earlier mentions, she would learn soon enough.

Besides, I’d love to meet your niece. It’s been a little bit since I’ve visited the homes of my people. I want to hear from them directly about their lives and what’s important to them. Let’s start today.”

If he perked up at her invitation to come to her Seat for instruction it was nothing compared to the wide and delighted grin that possessed him when she declared a visit to his family's ranch immediately following their drinks.

"You bet. Just a few miles up the road. Oh! You can even ride Loverboy." He winked. "I know he'd absolutely love the honor." Well, the young stallion wouldn't really see it as an honor more as he would see it as a steady supply of doting feminine attention (which was his favorite sort) - but it was an honor to Anthony in any case. And he was certain his family would feel the same.

His family.

His heart swelled and glowed. They would be so excited, and he knew they would be proud. Almost as much as he was to be able to show them off to his Queen, and his Queen off to them. His Queen. It still almost didn't feel real to him. Like he was in some kind of a daydream or back when they were kids playing "Cymrean Knights". Where they would pretend to be protecting their ancient realm against invaders, and rescuing damsels, and bonding to strong, beautiful Queens...

"My Lady, you have absolutely just made the day of the most adorable six-year-old you're ever going to meet." He'd have to make sure to send a thread to his mother as they were on their way over just so that she'd have a little bit of time to get herself in order. Not that he thought she needed to - but Saysha Baelfor was not the kind of woman who wanted to be caught unawares by the Queen. And Anthony Baelfor was most certainly not the kind of son who wanted to be the target of her ire when he could have given her warning.

Speaking of.

"And my mother will be absolutely delighted to meet you as well. I'm not sure if the old man will be around or not, but depending on how much time you have to spare you may still run into him." He couldn't seem to stop touching her. That need for contact was an inherent part of his personality, yes - he typically was a man of physical affections, but with the Lady.. with his Queen.. there was a distinct urge to wrap himself up in her.

Emma loved Anthony’s smile. His suggestion that she ride Loverboy both excited and terrified her. Previous attempts during her teenage years had gone poorly, to say the least. Emma nodded, finding herself answering that smile with one of her own. His energy was infectious. Anthony seemed like a man who was genuinely willing to help, and genuinely grateful to help his Queen. Why wouldn’t he be? Emma was worthy of him and she’d prove it in time. She’d start by impressing his family and continue by mastering the lessons he set for her. Margaret Webster had enjoyed her dominance of Dharo’s equestrian circles long enough.

It was time for new blood to take the field.

Well, I’d love to spend more time with Loverboy. If every horse is as good him, then I’ll be a professional in no time.” she said, only half-jesting. She had no idea how this would go. She’d be fortunate just to avoid being thrown from the saddle and crippled for the rest of her life.

"Well, I look forward to meeting your niece then. She sounds lovely.” Emma said, sipping her drink. She opened a thread to Bevan while keeping her gaze focused upon Anthony.

*I want you to return to Greystone and let Godfrey know where I am. Both of you can prepare some space for Anthony when we arrive.*

*You’re not serious, Emma. You just met him.*

*He will not hurt me. And he won’t replace you.*

Bevan offered a little more resistance, suggesting that Emma rethinking this, but he eventually relented. When their drinks were nearly finished, Bevan excused himself and found the waitress. He paid for the current drinks and opened a second tab for Emma and Anthony, then returned to the table.

I need to head back to court and prepare the others for your eventual arrival, Prince Baelfor. I hope you’ll excuse my exit.” Bevan said.

Thank you, my Prince. I appreciate your taking care of things.

Any time, my lady.” Bevan said.

He’d depart immediately, suppressing the urge to grouse about the situation. Once he was gone, Emma turned her attention back to Anthony.

I’m all yours, Anthony. When would you like to leave?” she asked.

Anthony watched curiously (though hopefully not too invasively) as his Queen seemed to have a bit of a private moment with her other male. Her other Warlord Prince. He didn’t know what was being said, but there was a tension about the other man that helped him infer it was probably about him, and when Emma thanked him and the other man left - he figured it was about him not wanting to leave.

The more cheerful Warlord Prince watched his departure with a slight frown - the expression almost worried and looking a little out of place on his lips, so used to being painted with a smile.

“Hm?” He looked back to Emma - then flashed her another smile, the expression brighter, lighter, easy. “Whenever you’re ready, of course, my loveliest Lady.” He winked, the flirt coming naturally - almost just in the way of his natural speech, as if it would be impossible for him to converse without it.

Though he did pause a moment looked back toward the door - where the other Warlord Prince had stalked out not moments before.

“He’s not really all that pleased about me, is he?” he asked. The tone was mild, curious - and deeper into it just a little bit sad - and it was likely that Emma would probably be able to read all of those things unless reading people was a genuine hardship for her. Anthony was a man who typically wore his heart on his sleeve - and one who was, well, he was used to getting along with people. It wasn’t that he’d ever had someone instantly dislike him before - because sure that had happened, and more often than one would think. Rather… it was important to him to be able to do this. He wanted to get along with his Lady and her other males. He wanted to be able to serve her. He wanted to be a part of her Court. He wanted…

Well, there would be time to talk about all of that later, he supposed.

Clearing his throat with a light flush, he pushed those thoughts away and smiled back at her. “I’m sorry if I’ve inadvertently caused any tension.”

Bevin was my first male and we bonded early in our lives. He’s extremely protective of me, that’s all. We certainly weren’t expecting to meet a new addition to our court and our lives today, but that doesn’t make me any less grateful that you’re here.” Emma said, taking Anthony’s hand. She wanted to try and feed her Touch into him, but she was afraid. What if it didn’t register? Worse, what if Anthony needed more and she couldn’t provide it? Failing him on their first day together was not an option and she would not embarrass herself before him. Maybe she’d explain the issue in time, but not today.

Please don’t take it personally or let it get you down, Anthony. It’s going to be an adjustment for everyone, but you’ll fit right in. I think Godfrey, my First Escort, will like you very much. He loves horses and he’s part of the reason I ran into you today.” Emma said.

What I’m saying is that I don’t want you to worry, my Prince. You are mine. You will have a place and I will have you at my side.” Emma said. When he was ready to move, she would lead Anthony from the tavern, wondering what was to come from meeting his family. Emma found herself hoping that these people weren’t supporters of Tegwen or, worse, some other Queen. She was more than willing to work at winning them over, but she wanted to know that it wasn’t a lost cause before she even started.

So, you said your niece will be excited to meet me. What about her parents? Do you have any children of your own?” she asked.

Later, Emma would realize how much she’d hoped that the answer was a solid no.

Anthony's fingers linked through hers easily, naturally, as Emma explained the tension in her other male. He couldn't say he didn't understand the protectiveness - though he hoped Prince Bevan would quickly get over the static so they could work together and become friends. Two Warlord Princes working together for the benefit and protection of their Queen would be far more effective than two Warlord Princes at odds with each other about the same.

His smile brightened, though, as Emma mentioned her First Escort and his own affection for horses. That, at least, seemed encouraging.

"Delightful," he said with a grin and a wink. "Then perhaps me and your Godfrey will talk some shop while we teach you a think or two about the beautiful creatures." He'd make sure that he introduced her first to the more gentle of their stock, especially since she'd confessed limited experience up to this point. Loverboy would be good for her. And Lady. Demon would have to wait until she was at least comfortable with riding.

They made their way out of the tavern, heading back out onto the street, and Anthony squeezed her hand lightly as he directed them back toward the fountain where he'd left Loverboy. It hadn't been so long that the young stallion would have begun wandering home - and this would be a good opportunity to get them better acquainted anyway. They could both ride him, and he could put his arms around her (as long as she was okay with that - and he really hoped she was), and she could get the feel for the natural rhythm of a horse's gate.

"Ah, yes, my older brother Simon and his wife, Lacey." He grinned over at her, the affection he felt for the couple plain in his voice. "They'll love you, I just know it. They all will. And not just because you're mine." He squeezed her hand and the look in his eyes was meaningful, and behind that - something fierce. "Because you're ours, Lady. You're our Queen." He wasn't talking about just his family. He was talking about his people. About how important it was to him, and to all of them, to have a Cymrean Queen to stand behind.

He let the moment linger just a second, then relaxed with an easy, cheerful smile, glancing up at the sky with a sigh. "As for myself, no children just yet." He chuckled and winked over at her. "Would you believe it if I said that someone as dashing and lovable as myself was presently single, even?"

They reached the fountain and Loverboy turned his head toward then, tossing it lightly. The young girls from earlier had certainly had their fun, and his main was braided and strewn with flowers. Clearly loving it, the stallion lifted his head and tossed it, flaunting his own beauty as he pranced over to them. Look at how pretty I am. Love me.

Anthony chuckled and ran his free hand down the horses neck. "Look at you, handsome. Someone certain got some well-deserved attention while I indulged in my darling Queen's presence."

Excitement and curiosity rolled through Emma Morgan in waves. Anthony had such an easy way about him that his charms were more effective on her than they should have been. He was a Warlord Prince, but he wasn’t nearly as snarly and snappish as Bevan could be. Oh, she felt the possessive tendency that marked the caste in the way that Anthony held her and kept her close. He sounded receptive to meeting Godfrey, making her feel that Bevan could be won over, in time.

They left the tavern and headed back to the fountain where she met Loverboy. Emma was excited to see the horse again, because she was sure that, this time, she would make an even better impression. She’d never been one to care about how an animal viewed her before today, but she wanted to impress Anthony and that started by impressing Loverboy.

Something about how he claimed her resonated in her very bones. She wanted to be the Queen he believed her to be. But a lot of things had to happen to bring Cymrea back from the dead and it would likely require people to die in the doing. Would Anthony still want to be near her if she was less than noble?

I can’t wait to meet them.” she said, of his brother and sister-in-law.

She did not sigh in relief at hearing that he had no children, but she came close. She laughed when he said that he was single. “I have trouble believing that you don’t have a number of women seeking your attention. Now you have me curious, Prince Anthony Baelfor. I’m going to have to ask your family more about you.” she said, grinning.

Seeing Loverboy brained and decorated with flowers made Emma squeal with delight. She reached out to pet him, laughing as he nuzzled her. She liked him already.

Would he allow me to ride him? Slowly, of course, but I just want to see how it feels. I’ve never really tried it before.” Emma said, looking to Anthony.

She wouldn’t be offended if he said no or seemed hesitant. This was likely his prized horse. She didn’t expect him to want to share everything in his life just yet.

Someday, he would want to do that. When that day arrived, she would be ready to accept it.

"I guess you could say that I'm more... in-between consistent lovers," he said with a laugh and a wink. After all, she wasn't wrong in the sense that he really didn't have trouble finding someone who appreciated his attention. Women and men alike - he'd both slept with and had more committed relations with both. At the moment, though, he wasn't seeing anyone special. There were a few friends he frequently cuddled and then some with, but that was it. Occasionally his mother made noises about him finding someone to actually settle down with, but while Anthony did want that - he was content to wait.

After all, there were more important things on the horizon that would need his full attention - like restoring Cymrea.

He chuckled at her decision to ask his family more about him. "Oh I don't think you'll even have to ask. Mum will be all over it - and Simon would love to tell you all the embarrassing stories of my youth. As older brothers are wont to do." He sighed, but there was good humor in the tone as he shook his head, running his hand down Loverboy's neck. The shameless flirt was nuzzling Emma and practically purring - if horses could purr that is.

His eye brightened when she asked to ride him.

"Of course! I tend to ride without a saddle most of the time so all I've got is the blanket - but if you're alright with it I'll gladly ride behind you." He winked, letting playfully heated overtones color his tone and dance in his eyes. "I'll keep you steady and our boy here headed in the right direction. How does that sound?" And he'd get to touch her, his hands on her hips, her back against his chest, close enough for him to bury his nose in her hair...

Mm. Yes.

I guess you could say that I’m more...in-between consistent lovers.”

Three seconds passed before Emma burst into laughter. Anthony’s humor was endearing to her. She only realized, just now, how much that humor had been missing in her life. Godfrey and Bevan had their moments, but Anthony was just fun. A handsome man already, Emma knew that he’d find no shortage of consistent lovers in her Court. The thought caused a surge of immediate jealousy (Mine.) that Emma did not brush away. Still, she shook her head as her laughter died down.

You make it easy to laugh, Anthony. I don't laugh easily, these days.” she told him. She reached out and took his hand, wanting just to touch him and learn the feel of his skin against her own. “Oh, then I need to hear these stories. You’ll probably hear them again at Winsol, too. I like to invite the families of my court members to share in the holiday with us. Just as a heads-up.

Anthony seemed enthused about her riding Loverboy, but Emma was clearly nervous about it. She didn’t understand how anyone rode without a saddle (she always thought they were needed), but she trusted Anthony to know his trade. She relaxed some when he said that he’d ride with her.

That sounds great. Just...don’t laugh if I look like a fool doing this.” Emma said.

She watched Anthony adjust  the blanket, noting the skill and confidence of his hands as he worked. She knew, somehow, that the same confidence translated to other actions the Warlord Prince took. It made her want to learn more about Loverboy, and horses in general, because it was important to him. When the blanket was set, she allowed Anthony to help her onto Loverboy’s back, settling in while positioned himself behind her.

Emma leaned back against his chest, allowing him to touch her (or not) as he liked.

So...where do we go from here?” she asked, looking over her left shoulder at the Warlord Prince who now assumed the role of instructor by default.
