Quote
To Prince Garen L'Voide,

I am Lady Toyani no Kagen, the Queen of the Lesser Caecian District. It has been made clear to me that in your possession is a member of Tacean nobility; One Yua no Ariake who wears the Red as her Birthright. I have been informed you have been given legal charge of her.

As one of the members of the Four Great Clans of Tacea, it would be my honor to offer assistance to you to avoid an upcoming diplomatic crisis. As we are both servants to Lady Rilandra Vlas, I wish to assure that we make her reign suffer as little strife as possible.

I would like to meet you in person to discuss the matter. I can meet you at your home in Aechia, if you prefer.

Sincerely,
Toyani no Kagen
Queen of Blackwater

The letter had first sent. Toyani had felt it tactful, even though she was certain she'd also made clear both her intelligence and the matters that the Yellow Jeweled Prince was trifling with. Maybe he simply didn't understand, given the shelter he'd had in Dena Nehele. Or maybe he was so arrogant as not to care.

But Toyani would make clear to Garen L'Voide his peril.

Garen's reply came within hours. The envelope was gold plated and had a golden ribbon upon it. She made sure to have Itsuko scan it for traps before she read it.

Quote
Lady Kagen,

I have in my possession one Lyoshka, who is not a noblewoman. She is a slave. I'm sure it's just a mistake of identity. I'd be happy to receive you at my home in Bidea after I conduct my business as part of Rilandra's First Circle.

No doubt after I show you the bill of sale, which is completely legal, you'd be happy to help me dispel any furture misunderstandings.

I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Garen L'Voide
First Circle of Dena Nehele

Toyani had dressed specifically for this occasion. Rather than a dress she favored a Dena Nehelian suit she had custom tailored shortly after her meeting with Ji Yoon Moon. An open V neck, black leather gloves, and sensible boots (not heels) made sure her perfect poise was intact. The Red Queen wreathed herself in dark colors as Itsuko and her other two escorts (all Taceans) followed as she made her way into Garen L'Voide's office in Bidea. Like her, they too wore black suits. It was as much a stylistic choice as it was for utility. A suit had a lot more ability to maneuver than a gown and ever since coming to Dena Nehele she'd never wear a dress again unless she was absolutely certain of her safety.

In Garen L'Voide's presence, no things were certain.

She had offered to meet him at his home in Aechia, but he had declined to receive her there, stating that he had business in Bidea to conduct for the Territory Court. He had been clear, she felt, in the effort to make certain she knew who he was (as the Territory Court bit was bolded as was his title) so as to try and intimidate her. Perhaps that would have worked for someone in Dena Nehele, but to Toyani he was just a man who reached for too much.

Itsuko entered the home first, a large mansion in the heart of the city away from (most of) the filth. She had passed a statue of the man on the way there, a vanity she found repulsive. At the door were four slaves, all dark skinned and wore collars made of gold and various gemstones. They were all Jeweled Blood, the darkest of them was a man who was bald, muscular and in his prime and had to be around forty or so. He had a serious manner and a coldness to his eyes that spoke of severity.

"I am Tymeon." The Green Jeweled Warlord said. "I will take you to my master."

Around them in the two story manse she saw dozens of people, all wearing collars (though not as ornate and expensive as the ones around Tymeon); a flagrant and open display of slavery. Garen L'Voide had brought her here and made certain she understood his power. How simple it might be to slip a collar around her, a hideous thought whispered, and rob her of her agency and power too.

Cold hate filled her heart. She didn't show it in her face or in her manner. She simply walked forward as she always did -- eyes ahead, head held high, and her stance being as unshakable as her intent.

For her guard, she infused them with the strength of the Sapphire to steal away their fear.

Toyani Kagen entered the large office which he had set up for the meeting, and Garen wondered for a moment what the fuck he was looking at. It didn't look quite like a woman, what with the suit and the skinny limbs. Her.. (he knew it was a her, if only because of the Queen scent).. hair was tied tight to her head, making her skull look like a shiny black dome, but her makeup looked off. She looked like a corpse more than a woman. What was with Tacean women not being able to use makeup? She wore a suit, which Garen found off-putting. No wonder Lyoshka was so fucked up with their Queens dressing like that.

Garen rose to his feet and smoothed out his black suit with a platinum collar and scarf, offering a wide grin to the skinny bitch who had showed up with.. women for guards. "Lady Kagen. Welcome to Bidea." He gestured to the chair before him and then returned to his seat. "Please, have a seat. Would you like something to drink? I can bring up some wine or champagne."

The skinny (though, tall) Tacean Queen set herself down in the seat across from him. The three women moved to take up a triangle position around her. They also wore suits, Garen noticed. A Green, and two Summer Sky Jewels. Toyani Kagen wore the Red prominently around her neck and on her gloved finger. "Nothing, thank you." Garen shrugged and sent for some for himself. He hadn't eaten yet and figured he'd get a meal in. There were ten slaves in the room, all of them guards with Tymeon hovering at his side. A butler left the room and would return shortly.

"We've not had the pleasure of meeting yet. You're the first of your Territory I've met besides Lyosh.." He began to say, but the Kagen Queen interrupted him.

"Yua." She said in a corrective tone. That irritated him, and he made it clear that he didn't appreciate her trying to override him.

"Lyoshka." Garen said, fully, with a sneer. "Is her name. I told you before, my slave's name is Lyoshka. And she's the first Tacean I've met. I haven't had the chance to meet Ji Moon or this Maseo Shingetsu that are bopping around the Territory these days. I had thought your home was secluded?"

"Things change, Prince L'Voide." The Kagen Queen said with an uplifting of her skinny eyebrow. Her eyes were cold, but her whole face said bitch to Garen. By now the butler had come back with a plate of freshly cooked fowl with garlic sauce and a bottle of champagne with an ice bucket. "Tacea has opened its borders and we have began to set foot into many Territories; as you are discovering for yourself with your recent acquisition of Yua no Ariake." Toyani set her gloved hands on her knee after she crossed her legs, affixing him with a cold stare.

Garen's eyes narrowed at her insistence of ignoring his correction. "Perhaps they don't teach good listening skills in Tacea, but I've said before I do not know a Yua Not-Ariake. My slave's name is Lyoshka. And that's the last I'm going to banter about it." He conjured a copy of the contract and had it appear before the bitchy Queen at her end of the desk. He picked up his knife and fork to begin into his meal. "If you don't mind, I'll eat while you read."

Toyani didn't even look at the contract, continuing to stare at him. "You could write that the sky is green on a piece of paper and enforce it with Prince Craft, but that would not make it so. I know who she is in your possession, Prince L'Voide. And soon so will others. Your secret will not remain so for long."

The threat made Garen growl out at her in annoyance while his stomach rumbled. The slaves around him tensed, feeling a tremble of fear (which annoyed him as well). "Everything I've done is legal, Lady Kagen. And if you have an issue with the legality of what I've done, you're free to bring it up to Riley, who you've signed a contract with to serve under, as is my understanding. So are you speaking as the Queen of Lesser Caecian or as some Kagen Queen who's trying to get good with some family back home?"

Toyani lifted an eyebrow again. Her voice continued in a professional, businesslike manner that lacked inflection or emotion. "I am serving Lady Vlas still, Prince L'Voide. War is legal. I wish to avert a war. If I happen to win renown in the Territory for negotiating an avoidance of an incident, all the better. I came to advise you that this recent business move of yours -- however legal -- will draw powerful enemies. No matter what boon you may gain from the ownership of Yua no Ariake, it is not worth the cost that will come about once her Queen learns of her situation.

Legal barriers will not stop what is coming for you."

Now she was threatening him, and Garen set his fork down and the knife alongside with it. "Since you can't seem to read, and you can't seem to listen, maybe I'll help you understand, Lady Kagen. I am the lifeblood of this whole fucking Territory, to which you are now contracted to. I am part of the First Circle to the Queen you're contracted to serve under. Your people live and die based off of the funding I give. And if you were anything back home, you wouldn't be here trying to talk me into giving up my slave -- who's name is Lyoshka, and if you try to tell me that she's not named that again, our conversation is over." He said while gesturing to her with his hand, the rings upon them glittering from the sunlight that flowed through the room.

Toyani's eyebrow slowly lowered. Her face was made of stone; locked in an ugly bitch face.

"If you cannot listen to reason, perhaps you will heed greed instead. I am willing to offer compensation for the release of Yua no Ariake, if we can discuss terms of cost."

Something turned hot in Garen as she took his terms and threw them in his face and had the fucking gall to try to dictate him? So fucking what if she held the Red? She was some District Queen, who obviously couldn't make it back home, who was trying to buy out his Red Birthright Healer?

He let out a laugh. "Lady. I can see why you're ruling some back-alley farmland. You don't know how to negotiate a makeup tablet, let alone a deal. But I'm charitable, I'll think about continuing our negotiation if you get over here under my desk and suck my cock."

Lifting his eyebrows up, Garen didn't even wait for a retort, and gestured for the door. "If not? Well, how about you fuck off back to the farmland, because we're done here, Lady."

Toyani had learned a great deal about Dena Nehele during the last few months she had spent time on the mainland. The first was that the majority of the Territory had never interacted with a Queen, let alone a Dark Jeweled one. The Territory was so starved for them that they accepted Warlords and Healers (another rare Caste) as their leaders because they simply lacked the numbers to field them for all of the seats. In a large sense, Toyani felt the lack of the Queens was the root of the spiritual maleasence of the Territory. They did not have their guiding lights; the women who kept them and bound them together and reminded them of their purpose.

Another thing she had learned was that as a whole the Territory did not treat its women with respect and that men were given far too much leeway to act however they desired. Men were irrational, lustful creatures and had to be held in check by a woman. Such was why Tacea had organized itself in the way that it had. Queens in Tacea ruled and were rightly feared. The greatest of the Queens brought together her daggers -- her males to not only give them purpose but to leash their anger. Not the males' wrath, but the Queens.

Toyani had not brought men with her, though. Her escorts were women. Garen L'Voide's dismissal after his crass comment did not sit well with them, but Toyani took it in stride. The anger that had been building with every word, every ill-use of tone, and this entire situation and what was riding upon it was at the edge of being released.

Slowly the Red Queen rose to her feet. "I would pity you, were you less contemptible a being Prince L'Voide. I came to you in the genuine hope for cooperation, but I had overestimated your intelligence."

Garen sneered from behind his desk. "The only thing you overestimated was how much I might care what you have to say. Get the fuck out before I throw you out."

The walls shook and with a flare of her Red, four of Garen's slaves found themselves lifted up off the ground. Garen, too, found himself lifted up out of his seat as her Red encircled a phantom, merciless hand around his throat.

"A Red Queen conquered Terreille." Toyani snarled out, just as her guards conjured their blades. Out from around the desk the Green Jeweled slave, Tymeon, rushed toward her. Before he had even taken two steps Toyani had summoned her own katana -- its edge crafted by the blacksmiths of her homeland and held in the family in generations, for it had once belonged to her mother -- and held it easily in her gloved hand. "A Red Queen murdered an entire Court of Tacea's finest." Her blade came up after she unleashed a blast of Red power that sliced through Tymeon's shield as neatly as her sword cut through the Warlord's arm.

She extended her gloved hand and Tymeon went flying through the second story window, his left arm fell to the floor at the tip of her blade.

"What do you think an Ebon Gray Queen is going to do when she finds you have kidnapped and assaulted her sister!?" She shouted as she slammed his hovering body against the wall, sending books, bottles, and portraits crashing to the ground.

Around her, slaves moved to protect their jailer while her personal guard met them with blade and Craft.

Toyani flicked her blade free of the Warlord's blood, a single sharp gesture of her arm, and then she moved to cross the distance between herself and the contemptible creature that had chained one of Tacea's Four like a dog.

It was time to cut the leash.

One moment Garen had been telling the skinny, ugly bitch to get out and the next he was lifted up out of his chair. The air around his throat had closed and he was unable to speak. He reached for his Jewels and for his throat, but found his body unable to move. HELP ME, YOU IDIOTS! He mentally shouted to the slaves in the room, but everything was happening so fast. He tried to use his Yellow to break free, but the Dark Jewels of the bitch made it impossible.

Tymeon rushed forward, rather than using his damn head, and with wide eyes Garen watched a Queen literally disarm his Warlord and throw him out of the window. The crash of glass and Tymeon's shout of pain echoed into the room. He didn't hear a thump, and he wondered if his longest-serving slave summoned a shield before he fell to the ground below.

The bitch was talking still, but Garen couldn't hear her over the terrible sense of panic that was filling him just then. Was he going to die? Here? Now? He saw his slaves in the room move to help him, but the bitch's guards interceded. Two jumped in her way just then. Mother Night, take them instead of me!

Suddenly he could breathe and move. The bitch had taken her attention off of him, just for an instant -- an instant needed to slam into his slaves with the power of her Jewels and then cut through them with her sword.

The butler dove over him to protect him with his body, and Garen snarled out against the skinny man atop him. "Through the floor, idiot!"

Down they went a second later, Garen and his butler. They both crashed onto a couch that was directly beneath him, strategically placed in case he had to make a quick escape. Garen issued commands then through the rings, calling every fucking slave in the house up to his office. STOP THE QUEEN AND HER GUARDS. IF YOU CAN KILL THEM FUCKING DO IT. And to get them moving faster, he gave them a little zap of encouragement.

More crashes were heard overhead. Glass shattering. He saw out of the side falling bodies and screams before they struck the street.

"CALL THE FUCKING TERRITORY COURT AND TELL THEM I AM UNDER ATTACK. DO IT FUCKING NOW!" He yelled at the butler, shoving him toward the door. Then Garen turned and ran toward the stairs that would lead him to the safety below in the basement. There were spells, dozens and dozens of spells and an exitway through there. He didn't have to run very fast, he just had to make it there with the time bought by all the poor fucks he'd thrown at the crazy bitch with a sword.

Sebastian was not often on top of his work, but he was today. The wandering wards had been neatly corralled, the nosy secretaries had been safely chivvied back to their desks, the guards were patrolling their proper routes as they were meant to be doing at this hour of the day. His Jacks were handled, no one needed disciplining, the balanced account books were all in order. Dyana and Ioan were making progress on that contract to find out why the editor of the Bidea Daily was watching Riley's movements. Everything was going well. He could probably even make it home to his wife in time for dinner, if Lord Serban was willing to remain for the Ward's dinner at nine, and Mika usually was good about that since Seb asked so very rarely.

Since his day was going so well, it was of course inevitable that something was going to go terribly fucking wrong.

He was sitting in his office, finishing his late lunch, when a harried-looking guard stuck his head in the door. Seb looked up, brow furrowed, mildly concerned at first, and as the man struggled to catch his breath his stomach sank. Ama, darling, I'll be home late tonight, he sent. If he got home at all.

As he hurried down the hall, he gathered the whole story from the guard. How Garen L'Voide and Toyani no Kagen had a meeting, and how they'd disagreed, and then the Queen had attacked the Yellow Prince. Seb could empathize with that, but it was still his duty to protect Riley's Court and her Territory, so--knowing the approximate Jewel makeup of the attacking force--he called in enough guards to at least stop the violence. Knowing Victoria's Tiger Eye wouldn't be up to the task of healing all the injured, he called Jude too, and Carson. What was the point of having command of the Jacks of the Territory if he couldn't make use of them? He wasn't supposed to call up Artur Woden, but he did: this was a situation of extreme need, he figured.

He showed up first, flanked by the Summer Sky guard who had first gotten the distress call from the butler and two Red Jewels: Artur and Adrian. Mika would arrange a follow-up force if it was necessary, but Seb sincerely hoped it wasn't. "If you wouldn't mind," he said to Artur. Once all three of them were shielded, they entered Garen's home. (He dispatched the Summer Sky warlord to retrieve Garen, who had likely hidden in the basement. Too bad Toyani hadn't managed to kill him first, he thought, and then was horrified at himself. Old habits, he supposed. He didn't used to have to protect the slaver Prince.)

Shielded behind Artur's Red--and why did an aristo Prince have such good control over his shields when wrapped around another person anyway--Sebastian pushed the door of Garen's office in, then held up both hands. If the Queen was beyond sense, she'd have to work to get past Artur's shield. If she wasn't, she'd see he was unarmed. "Lady Kagen," he called, "I think they're suitably disarmed." Literally, in one case. Whose arm was that on the floor? Eugh. "Will you please put the sword down? Your Escorts, too. I'm sure you had a reason for this, and I'd like to hear it, but I'm sort of afraid you're going to stab me in the face, and I don't think I've done anything to deserve it yet."

He was sure Artur and Adrian were both looking at him like he was an idiot, but... The air didn't feel full of cold rage. He didn't think it even felt like hot rage. The Queen was angry, but not out of her mind with it. Mother of Night's unholy cunt, why the fuck had this happened? (He sensed the ping! of Carson informing him of his arrival with his Healer.)  Seb shook his head at Artur, who took his hands reluctantly out of his pockets to show that he, too, wasn't holding anything. Not worth much when they were all Blood and could pull murderous bolts of power from the air, but at least they could show they weren't coming here prepared to put her down.

Toyani hadn't been idle while Garen L'Voide ran for his miserable life. While terrifying the Prince had been part of her goal, it hadn't been her entire goal. Her guard and she had dismantled Garen's slave guard in moments. What was a ramshackle collection of lost and desperate souls against trained warriors of the Kagen Clan? She had been specific in her instructions before their arrival: If violence is to take place, the only weapon that will claim a life is mine.

And there were no lives lost. Yet.

She had maimed some of them, certainly. Bodies had been thrown out the windows of L'Voide's manse and into the streets below. She'd ripped out half of the wall of the office and thrown it into the other. She had knocked unconscious two more men, and then a witch that had managed to make it through her guard. In the streets below there were the sounds of shouting and she could feel L'Voide's retreat.

She had lifted Tymeon up from the street as he lay there -- using her fine control of Telekinetics to easily bring him to his knees before her. Then she had laid her gloved hand on his face and tore through his outer barriers and then his inner barriers.

Show me where Lyoshka is. Show me what he has done to her. Show me who brought her to him. Show me their faces. Show me what he knew.

Tymeon's screams echoed through the hall. By the time Sebastian Bane and his company had arrived in the room Tymeon was laying with his face in a pool of blood beside his severed arm, shivering in terror from the aftermath of her invasion. Alive, but damaged and forever scarred by what had been done to him.

Much as Yua no Ariake was, no doubt.

"Prince Bane." The cold blooded Red Queen said with perfect poise as she noticed him and his companions. She flicked her blade and with a whisper of Craft cleansed her sword of blood. "You have never given me reason to desire violence against you. I do apologize for any disruption I have given to your day." She nodded as she turned to her escorts, all of whom likewise cleaned their weapons and vanished them, just as she did with her sword now.

"You will find that I've not mortally harmed L'Voide's people. It is fortunate that he has a Red Jeweled Healer in his employ." Her eyes settled sharply on Sebastian -- staring into him as if she were looking right through flesh and bone into the soul beneath. "I am certain if he were to summon her now, she could attend his people."

Shifting her weight to one hip, the slim Red Queen lifted an eyebrow in question. "Shall we wait for her, or do you wish to abscond to have Lady Vlas weigh the matter now?"

This was about the slave. The slave that Ji Yoon Moon had been looking for, had been certain was owned by Garen. Well, not even looking for, because Ji Yoon had seen her, worked with her. Shit. "Oh, fuck," said Seb, and he didn't look over his shoulder to see the unimpressed look Prince Woden was undoubtedly giving him. "This is about the--" he stopped for a second to rethink his phrasing because he didn't want to figure out what a Tacean Queen was like in combat "--Healer?"

He could imagine Mika's despairing look towards the ceiling and pretended he didn't feel Artur's gaze boring into the back of his head. There had to have been a better way to handle this than mutilation... but this was how it'd gone. He hadn't even really got to have a sit-down with Val or Riley about the situation, still caught up in wondering what to do about it, always distracted by a more imminent catastrophe. Was this his fault?

"Prince Woden, Prince Dimir, if you could begin gathering up the people and... parts..." Seb tried not to look too horrified. He'd seen worse, in his time, but not by much. "Lady Kagen, her entourage, and myself will go out to await the arrival of Prince L'Voide's Healer. If she's unavailable, then I'm sure Lady Moon and Lady Grigorie will do what they can." He considered the options. Let her walk out unescorted or... Protocol was a good leash to use. His job here was to de-escalate the situation, because Toyani was theoretically under his protection, too (though he doubted she needed it). He reached out on a psychic thread to the Warlord who had retrieved Garen and relayed the request to summon the Healer in question.

(He also let the Queen and the Wards out of the protected rooms they'd been removed to.)

He offered Toyani his arm, and escorted her out of Garen's wrecked townhouse, where the second wave of defenders was waiting. Somewhat sheepishly, but not all that upset really, he said, "Uh, so, it's bloody, but I don't think anyone is dead--we're going to wait for the Healer and keep people from lallygagging around here--Prince Dimir and Prince Woden are gathering the injured from upstairs."

Then he turned his attention to Garen--there was a Red shield shimmering between him and Toyani--and said, "So, uh. I think we can resolve this pretty fast if we just call the, um. Healer. In question. That's probably your man Tymeon's best chance--he's pretty fucked up."

It had been a good day, a very good day. Everything had gone perfectly, nothing had been out of order, and he was actually going to be able to say that - for once - Sebastian would be able to leave to go have a proper meal with his beloved wife. Mikhael never should have had any sort of hopes for a quiet evening after the meal with the Wards. Instead it had all quickly gone to shit when it was clear there was an attack upon Garen L'Voide - by a ruling Queen no less! - and he was moving quickly to ensure everything that had been planned for such a thing was done.

That meant making sure that the Queens and the Wards were within protected rooms, which came with a small army of individuals guarding it (the First Escort, the Queen's Shadow, the Matron, the Tutor, the Instructor; it was not a group he wanted to imagine someone dealing with). Then he was moving quickly, grabbing a Second Circle Escort (Dashel Darko) as well as Savi (with all the protection on the Queens and the Wards they could spare him). It was not lost to him that he was grabbing more Guildsmen but there were others with him as well, as well as a call out for another Healer.

The damage done had to have been great.

Mika's primary concern was, as he was on the move with his group to L'Voide's residence was that Sebastian was still alive. It was not as if the Prince was the most tactful at times and a situation like this sometimes required utter adherence and strict following of Protocol to save lives. Not that he had any doubts that Sebastian could handle it but ... No, it was honestly a fear that someday the Master of the Guard would be mauled by someone because he said the wrong thing.

Just as they were about to arrive, the all-clear from Sebastian came through and some of the tension bled out of him though he was on alert. "Prince Bane has resolved at least part of the current issue but we will still be on detail." He paused, ignoring the need to pinch the bridge of his nose and sigh as they arrived at the destroyed townhouse. There was a sour feeling in the pit of his stomach that he would not shake for hours. A clipped nod went to Sebastian, his gaze sliding over the Red Jeweled Queen (though he was respectful, as always, as he had met her the day she had been given a Court within Dena Nehele) and the Prince that had been attacked. Details about the situation were filed away, a quick look towards Savi and Dashel.

"Lord and Prince, if you would start ensuring that we have a perimeter set up, we will ensure no  one else is here that needs not be here. If you catch sight of Lady Moon, escort her here immediately." A glance back to Sebastian, a nod given to the Prince before he would go about doing what he could to help alleviate and ensure this situation stayed the way it was and did not get any worse.

Ji Yoon Moon arrived shortly thereafter, muscling her way through the perimeter, Healer's bag slung over her shoulder and conspicuously without an escort. Though Haneul was currently asleep in her apartment above the clinic, he'd been up all night and taking a sleep-deprived Gray Prince to Garen L'Voide's residence while she was still trying to keep the entire situation from coming to blows was seemed like a bad idea.

Of course, her understanding from the very urgent thread she'd received was that someone had drawn blood, so...

The important point being that bringing Haneul into the mix would be a terrible idea.

Looking up at the townhouse, she observed that multiple windows on the street-side facade had been smashed. Her gaze tracked downward... quickly answering the question of what had happened to those windows.

It had quite literally rained men.

And there, standing before her, was the likely culprit, Toyani no Kagen.

Ji Yoon blew a lock of hair away from her eyes, said nothing, and then turned towards Sebastian and the Yellow-jeweled Prince beside him. She'd never seen the second man before, but could make an educated guess from circumstances and context that he was probably Garen L'Voide.

She did not like him one bit, right from the word go.

"Prince Bane," she said, nodding. "I arrived as soon as I could. Where would you like me to begin?"

Sebastian made a gesture to a group of wounded laid out on the lawn, already overseen by Carson and Jude. Ji Yoon made a beeline for the familiar pair. "I take it," she said, tossing her bag down on the grass, "that negotiations broke down."

She shot a pointed look over at Toyani, and then focused her attention on more immediate matters. "Alright. Where are you in triaging? Who should I start with?"

Ioan was impressed.

The display hadn't warranted him to take action in defense of his Queen, so he had done as bidden and remained concealed throughout the fiasco. Toyani was neither in danger nor dancing within the cold or hot rage that would've prompted him to tug upon their Bond and pull her back from it. So instead the Shaos hovered around his chosen corner of the room wrapped in sight, sound and psychic-masking shields while the negotiations (if they could really be labeled such) went from tense to bad to bloody.

L'Voide was a damned fool and had brought this whole thing upon himself by means of idiocy, stubbornness and disrespect. There was no sympathy within the Warlord as he watched Garen's men get cut down and thrown about like rag-dolls, they were accomplices and deserved as much punishment as their master, even if others would've surely argued otherwise. It was justice being exacted on this day and he was glad that someone finally had the nerve put the bastard more in his place.

He noticed the Yellow-jeweled Prince making an attempt to flee to some other room after shouting for someone to contact the Territory Seat about the assault. While he was inclined to follow and catch him, it was instead a succinct, psychic directive from Toyani that had him making his leisurely retreat outside to take point around the perimeter of the townhouse. Part of him made a mental note to replicate the incident mentally and store it away within a memory crystal, most likely for any future reference needed by Toyani (less so was the notion that there would assuredly be people highly interested in seeing it for themselves, though that would come with a steep price). Besides, it'd make for something uplifting to replay on a rainy day.

Calling Sebastian and crew was the expected action of course, as L'Voide was a member of the First Circle, but Ioan's instruction was rather that he keep an eye out for anyone not expected to be coming or going from the scene. Any unusual emergency contacts that the slaver might've had coming to his rescue. Though Prince Bane, Lord Serban and the retinue that followed arrived posthaste, which was hardly a surprise. Another layer of skintight shields went up (rendering him further into his invisibility) as the area seemed to get more crowded very quickly, a cavalcade of people representing the Territory Seat appearing in no short order.

This, naturally, was less than ideal for the man who operated under pretenses that involved him not getting caught, but he was good at what he did and thus such a thing wasn't really a concern. He watched Seb escort Toyani, Itsuko and the other two away from the townhouse and hearing the instructions for the darker-jeweled men to start establishing their own perimeter was cue enough for him to relocate himself into the alleyway then head into the vacant building across the street and down a couple buildings. He could still see and hear what he needed to with Craft enhancements from such a vantage point, and it put him far enough away for any of the retinue to not pick up his presence once they started trying to clean up around L'Voide's residence.

Toyani did not, in fact, take Sebastian Bane's arm. Though she nodded at the offer and allowed him to take the place of her escort, she did not touch him. "No, Prince Bane. This was a preview of what will happen when The Healer's Ebon Gray Sister discovers what's been done to her. Tacean Queens are warriors. And Yuki no Natsuhana is as great a swordswoman as I." And has the Descent that I could have claimed for myself. But that thought did not have the bite it once did. Not in the moment, now, where she stood among these pale mainlanders who had never seen a Queen's blade unsheathed. She ignored the looks and the stares, the signs of uncertainty from those Bane had brought. Some would cheer for her behind closed doors. Others would fear her. But none of them would forget this moment, and as much as she had enjoyed some satisfaction in striking fear in L'Voide's foul face, it would pay its own dividends in other ways.

Her first concern was her task with seeing to Yua no Ariake's release. He would deny it vehemently but if she could look the woman in the eye she would know the truth.

She stepped outside and into the street, her gloved hands falling at the joint above the elbow. When Ji Yoon Moon arrived she did not pay her any mind. What would a Healer know of tactics and strategy? Besides, she did not seek the confirmation of her future sister in law. She was called her to serve the Court. Soon enough a young Yellow Jeweled Prince led an older, more grizzled Yellow Jeweled Prince into the open. Garen L'Voide looked at Toyani with raw and visceral anger.

"This bitch tried to kill me, Bane! She's hurt my people, attacked me in my home, all for a bunch of slander! You and Dimir and everyone else should drag her skinny, ugly ass to Riley right now for judgment!"

Toyani lifted an eyebrow. "You have not learned your lesson, Prince. But once these men disperse I will give you a more permanent one, have no fear."

"FUCK YOU." Garen snarled, leaning forward into the shield. Toyani felt her anger swell beneath her skin, but did not rise to the bait. "Your man is bleeding out. Mayhap you should summon Yua no Ariake to assist you."

Garen growled in anger. But he wasn't afraid of this Queen seeing Lyoshka. He knew he stood on firm legal ground. Once Riley heard about this she'd set the uppity bitch straight. So he turned to one of the unharmed slaves and snapped at him. "Go call the house, tell Tasha I need Lyoshka here now. And bring a full guard." He turned to Bane then, clearly still furious. "She's gotta come from Aechia. Get one of your other Court Healers to hold him together so he doesn't lose his fucking arm!"

Yeah, so, Garen could shout all he wanted, Sebastian was doing his best to resolve a problem without getting all of them pasted by a giant Red cheese grater. He wanted to yell about it, but that'd do more harm than good. In the end, if Garen didn't understand how fucking dangerous a Red Queen angered was, then that was his own lookout. Seb could do a lot, but he couldn't protect someone from their own stupidity, no matter how rich or how ex-Jack they were. He didn't even like dealing with people who'd left the Guild.

He nodded to Mikhael, and bowed to Ji Yoon, directing her towards Carson and Jude. Tiger leaned in to enlighten the Tacean Healer on where matters currently stood: how there was a great deal of harm done and they'd need more power than the two of them could field to put everything back to rights. There was still enough strength between the two of them to staunch all the bleeding... but not to staunch the bleeding and reattach an arm. For that, they would need the strength of a Red Healer, and in the whole Territory he only knew of one.

The threat Toyani had made as they left the ruins of Garen's townhouse still rang in his head. This was a preview of what will happen... He'd seen the Ebon Gray unleashed before. Nova's wrath had iced over an entire two-story gymnasium. He hadn't seen her Jewels, but he'd heard from the guards how horrifying she'd been, how the Ebon Gray had still been aflame with her power. After seeing Toyani's display of power, he wasn't going to risk an Ebon Gray turning her attention on the Court. They had one of their own, but Aleia Sala was not a trained warrior the way that Toyani no Kagen implied this Lady Natsuhana was.

"This will go to Riley," said Sebastian, sharply. "Attacking another member of the Territory Court of Dena Nehele is unacceptable, and the collateral is extreme, but I'd rather not have this happen again. And I need fucking context so I know what the hell is going on! All I know is there's a Birthright Red Healer who could be a victim of trafficking and as the Master of the Guard it's my responsibility to sort that shit out."

The mark, unfortunately, stopped with Sebastian. Why did it always stop with Sebastian?

Anyway, neither Jude nor Ji Yoon was a Court Healer. That was immaterial, as much as Sebastian longed to be pedantic. He glanced at the door to Garen's home as Dimir and Woden pulled out the last, traumatized member of Garen's household. He glanced at Carson. Ji Yoon had been there a shorter time, had less time to expend her Craft. But Jude... Jude could be trusted. Sebastian knew Jude and had vouched for her entry into the Guild with Carson. "Tiger!" He jerked his head towards Tymeon, and turned his attention back to the group. "Lord Savu, stay with Lady Moon, we're not going to be leaving here until we've seen who this Healer is."

He considered the rest of his options. "Prince Darko, you're with me. Prince Dimir, with Prince L'Voide, and Prince Woden, with Lady Kagen. Nobody moves at anybody." With his people portioned out, he crossed his arms over his chest and looked between the Queen and the Prince. "Alright, so, can one of you tell me what happened? Please? I mean, both of you should, but one at a time, I've only got one set of ears."

The HR block is to denote the difference in character voice, as there are thoughts involved in both characters at the moment.

"I am more than willing to face the consequences of my action, Prince Bane. I am willing to pay for the structural cost of damage done to L'Voide's home. However this took place due to his words and his disrespect." Toyani said the words sharply, her voice monotone despite her contempt for the man across from her; but her eyes shifted from the Master of the Guard to L'Voide, who sneered in obvious discontent at her statement. "Perhaps he is accustomed to treating Queens like they were street riff-raff, but despite what history has shown money does not equate with superiority."

Garen stepped forward, just shy of bouncing off of Adrian's shield. The puppy was standing guard and it was obvious to Garen that Riley's pet Red didn't want to be here. But he didn't give a fuck about Adrian or Artur or anyone else there, save that their jobs were to protect him as an integral part of the Territory.

"Listen, you skinny, ugly slut. I could buy out your whole fucking District and still have enough money to pay for the contracts needed to bury every fucking person you ever loved. I AM THIS FUCKING TERRITORY! If you don't like how things are done, go back to your ash-covered island! You just got here, you do not dictate to anyone how things are done here. Nobody gives a fuck that you were born with a cunt and a Queen caste and by some turn of luck given a fucking Red Jewel."

Shifting to Bane, Garen took a slow breath to steady his anger. "Listen, Sebastian. Everything I've ever done has been legitimate. Every contract is legal. Lyoshka." He snarled the word out to Toyani with a sneer, but the Red Queen's eyes were now closed as if she were concentrating thing or trying to keep her cool or not cry or something. "Was given to me through the Raej markets. You've seen the contract. Riley's seen it. Everything in that is flawless. I even offered it to this bitch who constantly was interrupting me and trying to talk down and intimidate me. She is insistent that this whole thing is a sham, but just because she and some other people think something isn't right doesn't matter.

Look, Sebastian, you may not like me, but you can't deny that I've done a lot of fucking work for this Territory and Riley's agenda. That Red Jeweled Healer is more than anything else we've had, and it's not like I have her locked up in a tower somewhere. I've been having her fix people left and right.

Where as this bitch.."
He gestured to Toyani then. "Fucks off back home after a week of being assigned to her seat, after kicking Carmen out. We've sacrificed a lot for this Territory and she signed a contract with us. If she's working for Tacea still, she has no reason to have the protections of this Court or any fucking consideration. Tacea hasn't done dick for us."

Toyani had felt the desire to reach through these men and rip out the slaver's throat. It wouldn't be too difficult. She understood the power of her Red. Her Red that, for so long, had been a disappointment was now an extension of her body, just another blade to wield. She could go to that cold place. The same place Ishiyo no Izaoyi had gone...

What were a few men to the full wrath of a Tacean Queen, unleashed?

Her honor demanded it. This slanderous, ruinous creature before her that represented everything that was wrong in the world deserved nothing more than to have his Jewels broken and to serve as an example for everyone to see and mock; a cautionary tale for all time about the decadence of man and the Blood and what would eventually become of you by at the hands of the righteous and the true.

But for all her anger and her irritation, she was not a Warlord Prince. Yua no Ariake was not hers, and so she could not easily summon that deep pit of fire that would be necessary. It would be playing at the emotion and not the true passion needed.

So she focused instead on her mental communication with her guard and with Ioan. Watch for Yua, she told them.

Itsuko stepped forward, producing a clear crystal. "Prince Bane." Her guard said gently. "This is a memory crystal of their meeting from my perspective at her side. And.." She conjured two documents and also handed them over. "These are copies of their correspondence."

Toyani nodded slowly in approval as she opened her eyes. Itsuko would not have provided the moment where she interrogated Tymeon for the memories of the transfer of sale to Garen and who was involved. Just their meeting and the interaction -- the relevant information for Sebastian Bane's investigation.

"I am sworn to the Territory Court of Dena Nehele." Toyani said simply as she turned her full attention to Sebastian Bane. "And it is in that capacity that I came here to negotiate with Prince L'Voide. I know the Queen to whom Yua no Ariake is named sister to. She was the Queen of all of Tacea, trained by my own aunt who ended a seventy year long civil war with her mind and blade. Yuki no Natsuhana wears the Ebon Gray and commands a Healer Caste as well. She has an entire Court filled with Dark Jewels, including a second Ebon Gray, and my brother as well. If she were to come here in all her righteous wrath to retrieve her sister, it would bring decimation and death to Dena Nehele."

Toyani turned her gaze to Garen, lifting an eyebrow. "Prince L'Voide did not seem concerned with that possibility. And I tell you, now, after what has just taken place.." She stepped a single step forward and slowed her words as if she were speaking to an infant.

"This. Is. Nothing. Compared to what is coming for you, if you stay on this course, Prince L'Voide."

Toyani turned her gaze to Prince Bane, then, her eyebrow lowering. "I am certain that after you review the evidence, you will hold the same concerns as I, Prince Bane." Look with your own eyes at the herald of your destruction.

Sebastian wanted to grab Garen by the shoulders and beg him to shut his fucking mouth. Or at least stop calling her a slut. Money bought a lot of things, but Lady Kagen was correct, as far as he could tell from this outburst: Protocol did demand manners, and there were consequences for breaking it. That was true.

It was also true that without L'Voide's money, the Territory Court would be in a great deal of trouble. He didn't have to be a Prince (though he was) or a political genius (which he definitely wasn't) to know that Riley's Court balanced on the edge of a knife. The increase in taxes required to make up even half of what L'Voide contributed would cause riots, and not just among the common folk. The aristo had money to take out contracts, and while Riley was safe, and Seb was relatively safe, there were plenty of people who weren't. The vast majority of the Court wasn't. And Myos were very, very good at their jobs. So was Seb, but he required a lot more manpower than he'd be able to get without L'Voide's money helping cover the pay stubs.

"The contracts for the transfer between the original seller and Prince L'Voide were valid," said Sebastian, "they established valid provenance and gave us no reason for concern, I would've said something if they had. I have seen the paperwork and there wasn't anything wrong with it--if Lady Lyoshka has come to Prince L'Voide through, um, crimes, it wasn't anything on his end." It grated to say that. "And considering the cost of keeping a Red Jewel, I think it's fair he'd want to hang on to his investment." Fuck his life.

His attention jerked away from Lady Kagen right as he was going to reassure her that if something was wrong he'd deal with it. The Green-Jeweled Priestess offered a memory crystal and a letter, and Sebastian was--against his desire to continue to be upset at everyone involved in this disaster--impressed. He shielded his hands and took the crystal and the documents. The letters were polite, which made the apparent breakdown of diplomacy that much more personally troubling.

Sebastian didn't review the crystal yet, instead listening to the Red-Jeweled Queen who apparently started this whole debacle. He could see where she was coming from, which was the worst part. This was the sort of nightmare that Val often warned about, but in Val's imaginings it always came from Askavi and Hayll, not from Tacea directly towards Dena Nehele. A Court consisting of two Ebon Grays would easily outstrip the single Ebon Gray that Dena Nehele could lay claim to; he knew of a few Grays, but when the very Dark Jewels went to war, it was the common people who suffered. Landen and the Jewelless and the poor.

"I'm going to review this," he said, raising the crystal, "And everyone else is going to wait for Lady Lyoshka."

Every time they placed his Red in his hands, Lyoshka had to fight the urge to take it and run. He figured he could probably get pretty far before Garen realized what was happening if he managed to kill the guards... but then he remembered the control Garen had over even the most minute reactions of his body, and chose not to. Better to live life as a slave and have a chance at future freedom than to risk it and fail. Casimir's Craft was powerful, but he wasn't sure that it could really withstand a prolonged assault. He didn't want to test it. He still remembered that threat from the first day in Garen's possession, and men who wanted to fuck the Red out of him.

Better to behave. There had to be a better opportunity. There would be one if he just waited.

He wasn't often called for emergencies, or with so many guards. The aristo tended to have minor maladies and... actually, he wasn't sure how Garen decided which of the needy Lyoshka was to help, but at any rate it wasn't like they pounded on the door to the Aechia manor. That alone made today more interesting than any of the days preceding it, and much easier to think about. He wasn't particularly talented at triage, but he could always patch things well and fix them more correctly later. Maybe he'd get more than one field trip to Bidea after this; that was a bright thought. He liked that idea, which... honestly felt a little shitty, since it meant someone would have to be badly hurt.

Of all the scenes he was expecting, he didn't expect Garen's Bidea home with a wall blown out, two Blood Opal Healers already there, and Tymeon with his fucking arm cut off. He could feel his adrenaline rush, but pulled on the Red to calm himself, and that was when he--

Paused.

There were more Reds here than he'd expected. Dread coiled low in his stomach, a snake preparing to strike, as he counted: Two large, Red-Jeweled men. A third, lankier Red. And behind one of the Red shields keeping Garen and his assailant apart was Toyani no Kagen.

The dread became full-blown fear. He'd told Garen that Toyani wouldn't be a problem, and she shouldn't have been, there was no part of her that had any reason to be interested in him. She should've been caught up in ruling where-ever she was ruling, he didn't remember the specifics, and in her family back home, and in navigating the complicated political waters of Dena Nehele. Not meddling in something that only barely concerned her. As long as no one knew where he was, it wouldn't become a matter of possible war.

A smallish, weedy-looking man looked to Lady Kagen. He held a memory crystal in his hand that he had evidently been reviewing. "Is this the Healer you were talking about, Lady Kagen?"

Lyoshka shook his head minutely at her. Please. No. Tell him you were wrong. He thought it but he didn't send it, not wanting to risk it. He couldn't let people suffer because he'd been stupid and gullible. No.

He couldn't fucking watch. Lyo turned his attention to Tymeon, kneeling alongside the foreign Healer. If blood got on his fancy Dena Nehele-style clothes then that was as would be. With a stasis spell on the amputated arm, he had enough time to work. "It'll be alright," he said. Maybe the words were for Tymeon and maybe they were for his own sake. "Lady Moon, can you help me with him? As we did with Lord Aegle?" The foreign Healer switched places with Ji Yoon, and this time he did reach out: *Lady Moon, what is she doing here?* Let Garen sense that. He had a reason to talk to another Healer.

With Savi and Dashel pulled away, it left Mikhael on the fringes and ensuring that there were no others unwelcomed involved. He bit the inside of his cheek as Garen spoke, mentally applauding Sebastian for keeping his cool. Sometimes the man did not give himself enough credit. For all that he was not as great at Protocol as one would expect him to be, he still knew how to handle high-risk situations with grace.

Something niggled at his senses, his stomach dropping in a way that told him there were more going on than what he could see, but with the Dark Jewels that were around ... Mikhael could not say for certain it was something unseen or simply a reaction to so much Craft. He moved towards Sebastian as if he was unbothered, the picture of Protocol and Etiquette, and wondered if there was any hope that Garen L'Voide would mind his mouth so that he might live through the evening.

What was a little more blood on the sword of a Queen who had already drawn such? His business with the Birthright Red Healer was absolutely legal but his rudeness - and her actions - were both ...

"Perimeter is secured," said Mika to Sebastian, "and the injured have been accounted for." In short, he was here for whatever Sebastian needed him for. He went silent when the Red Jeweled Healer made their appearance ...

Mikhael's stomach lurched once more and he knew that, when this evening was over, he was going to be without his stomach's contents. Hopefully not before everything was said and done but with so much Craft in use? It would happen at some point.

At Prince Bane's command, Ji Yoon had gone to work stabilizing casualties, grateful to have a reason not to stay and get dragged into the typhoon-class shitstorm by the door. Her concentration drowned out the noise behind her, until she could hardly hear Toyani and Garen going at it - and good. If Garen L'Voide paid her no attention, good. Ji Yoon would dismantle his hold on his prized possession without him ever knowing what she was up to. Perhaps without him even knowing her face.

She worked quickly, calling on as little craft as possible as she halted bleeding and sank patients beneath the waves of unconsciousness. Carson was nearby, an escort at the ready, but - his attention was steadily focused on Jude, Warlord Prince possessiveness on high alert.

When Lyoshka arrived, Ji Yoon glanced up only briefly, not even taking the time to evaluate the younger healer's condition. Did she look better? Worse? Were whatever indignities Garen had subjected her to visible on her person? But Lyoshka had been dragged into the mess by the door, and Ji Yoon didn't want to get drawn into that. She focused on her work. There were plenty of bones that would need to be set properly later, a few spinal injuries she'd stabilized but would need more time and a proper escort to fix, but none of the men and women laid out in front of her were in immediate danger any longer.

Any then, there was Lyoshka, asking for her. Ji Yoon joined her in looking over the one-armed man that Jude had been tending to.

Lady Moon, what is she doing here?

Ji Yoon frowned, checking the man's pulse and deciding to slow it just a tick further, fingers glowing with Rose power. I have no fucking idea, she thought back. I wasn't called until things had already... blown up.

She fully intended to downplay her role in all this. Toyani had figured out Yua's captive status on her own time.

Savi took orders well. He'd done so with Boots before him, and now he did so with Seb. The Prince still threw it in his face whenever he felt like that it was Savi's damn fault he was in this position to begin with. Maybe it was, but Seb handled it way better than Savi ever woulda, and that was worth whatever lip his Guild Leader felt like givin' him.

He'd been with Sora when the call came and had made certain to see her and the other Wards secure before he went to join Seb's Second in Command. He'd left the Queen of Dena Nehele speaking soothing words to her Wards, some of the older males pacing like caged beasts. Savi wasn't especially worried, three Queens in that room could manage to hold the tempers in. Nah, he was much more concerned with what he would see when he arrived at Garen L'Voide's.

Settin' to work securing the perimeter, it took not much more than a snarl on his scarred face for the gathering crowd to back off when he approached. Markin' the area with Craft that would alert them when anyone passed through it and makin' one more long pass around to ensure all gathered knew they'd get to deal with him up close and personal like if they tried anythin', he walked back to Seb and waited for his next orders. Healers had arrived by then and started their work.

Seb ordered him to attend to Lady Moon and Savi gave him a sharp nod and followed after her. He didn't know fuck all about escortin' a Healer. Did he shield her? Would his Craft just get in her way? Tiger was the only Healer he'd spent any real time with and he knew Carson well enough to steer the fuck clear of her when she was workin'.

He stood nearby, tryin' not to loom, but seemed to fail quite intensely despite his efforts. When the other Tacean Healer showed up, he looked her up and down and realized the Red Healer everyone had been talkin' 'bout wore a Red Birthright. Hell's fucking fire.

His head spun. Reaching out to Adrian on a Red to Red spear thread, he sent, *Didja know about this Healer here?* When Adrian replied that Riley had told him, Savi just let out a low whistle. Well, fuck me walkin'. Least he was here with the Healers and not stuck guarding Garen L'Voide. He'd be hard pressed not to just offer up the former Jack to the pissed off Tacean Queen to tear apart as she liked, orders or no.

Sebastian couldn't feel the Red Healing Craft that the young Healer was using, but he could see its effects. There was a red sheen around the girl's hands as she pulled thin golden nerve fibers from the neat edges of Tymeon's wound. Pearly bone distended next, muscle growing over it, and Seb was... Seb kind of wanted to vomit, watching her work, but it was so fascinating as she called the severed arm back to her and its owner. She coaxed the arm back into its place like a mother with a reluctant child. Was that what it was supposed to be like, Healing Craft? He'd never seen Jude do that and she'd pieced someone's insides back together. There was supposed to be more... surgery? Stitching and pulling and debriding. This was just pure Craft. It seemed like it took less than five minutes, though--with the time he spent reviewing the crystal's contents--it was probably more like fifteen or twenty.

If that was what a Red Healer could do, what would it be like to have a Black in Dena Nehele? He looked down at the crystal. The only thing he'd learned for sure from watching that was Garen had fucking provoked Toyani's response and that he didn't want to find out what an Ebon Gray could do. A Red was enough. A Red was more than enough. He vanished the memory crystal so no one could take it and tamper with it. The chain of custody, from the Priestess escort of Toyani no Kagen to himself and then on to Riley, would be complete and undisturbed. He sent ahead a request for Riley to meet them in the throne room--it was a formal space for a formal occasion--and resisted the urge to sigh aloud.

With Toyani having got her eyeful of the Healer, he said, "Alright, so, we're going to head back now. Savi, I think Lady Moon and Lady Lyoshka will be alright with Prince L'Voide's guards. You can return to the Wards once we've cleared out... Mika, um. Lord Serban. Stay here and clean up what you can. Keep an eye on the perimeter with Prince Darko. Prince Woden, Prince Dimir, let's move."

After the bulk of the group left, Seb hung back just long enough to relay instructions to Carson and Jude with regards to seeing Lady Moon home. Hopefully between the three Healers, no one would be left in pain that night. He lingered for just a moment, watching Lyoshka carefully excise Jude's neat stitches from the back of a young male slave as she healed his wounds.

He did not want to be around her when she wore the Black. All that power, leashed to L'Voide, was a terrifying prospect.

There was nothing he could do. Seb shook his head, and returned to the Court.
