This thread occurs the morning after secrets within the flight of birds

Winter 193- Bidea, Rilandra’s Room

Drake spent the rest of the night ironing out the balance of his duties between the Myos Guild and the Court. Leading the Myos Guild wouldn’t be easy. He'd need to comb through the various contracts requested of the Myos to ensure that no on went off the script or went after targets who were off-limits. The longer that his mind worked over the issues in question and considered the angles, the more Drake realized that it was time to stop putting off the conversation he should have had months ago.

He returned to his room and bathed, continuing to map out the plans he was making for himself and Dena Nehele. The loss of the winery couldn’t be his focus anymore. Viorica was still asleep and there was no way to know when (or if) she’d awaken. Rilandra needed him more each day to keep her spirits up. He knew that she visited Valeriu to tell him about their child. The former Steward wasn’t one of his supporters, but the man had a family who needed him. Like Viorica there was no telling when, or if, he would awaken from the damage done by the Decimation.

Unless something changed, Rilandra would raise another fatherless child.

Drake got a few hours’ sleep, When he woke, he got out of bed and dressed in gray pants and a white button-down shirt. He slipped into his black shoes and left his room. Heading toward Rilandra’s room, Drake silently rehearsed their conversation in his head. He’d tell her what he was thinking, let her respond, and explain to her how things had to change. They would talk, she would cry a little, but it would be okay.

When Drake arrived at her room, he sensed that she was already awake. That was good. He liked to watch her sleep but he didn’t want to wait to talk to her. He’d waited long enough and they’re relationship had suffered for it. He knocked on the door, then turned the knob and pushed the door open.

He was barely two steps inside when the psychic scents of anger, pain, and betrayal assaulted him. Now Drake stepped into the room more fully, looking for Rilandra to ensure that she was safe.

He caught the plate half an inch before it would have smashed into his head.

How could you?!

Rilandra.

Something was wrong

Rilandra, what the--

An Opal shield came up just as the silver butterknife flew toward his head. It clattered harmlessly to the floor.

Rilandra, what are you doing?!

“What am I doing? What am I doing?! What are you doing?!” Riley sat in her bed, surrounded by the remnants of what had been a very comfortable nest before she had started tearing it apart. It had taken a great deal of luring, but Jeremiah had finally eased her back into sleeping in her own room.

She shoved the breakfast tray to the side. It had been waiting for her when she woke up with a warming spell covering it. She had been starving, like she was every morning. It wasn't until she was on her fourth piece of toast that she saw the letter resting on her embroidered pillow.

Opening it, she had read the single sentence contained within.

Your contract with Dragos Cutrov is hereby terminated.
~the Guild Master

“You have some fucking nerve showing up here this morning.” She scrambled over the bed, getting tangled in the sheets as she did. When she reached the edge, her legs were trapped. She tore at the sheets with a frustrated yell before finally tearing her legs free. Grabbing a pillow off the bed, she threw it at him hard before grabbing another and trying to hit him with it.

Riley didn't care that it just bounced off his shield. She closed the distance and tried unsuccessfully to beat the Myos about the head with the pillow. It was an absurd attack with an absurd weapon, made all the more ridiculous by her sleep tousled hair and seven months pregnant belly. After it became clear her feathered assault was not actually helping her or hurting him, she retreated, pacing about the room and rambling at him at a furiously fast pace.

“I've been very patient. I waited. I didn't ask. Did I ask? Why no, I didn't. Or push! I didn't push. You know I like to push!” she said, her focus turning to him sharply. She held his gaze for a moment before beginning to pace again. “But I didn't. I gave you time. And this,” she scurried back over the bed to find the letter, stepping up onto it and picking her way through the strewn bedding. “This!” She said, snatching up the letter and crumbling it up and throwing it at him, “is how you choose to tell me that you're leaving me and moving to Askavi?!”

Beware the wrath of an angry Queen.

He’d seen Rilandra angry. He’d seen her go cold and the sight was unnerving, even for a member of the Myos Guild. But standing here right now, the strongest emotion he read from Rilandra Vlas was betrayal. She was angry. She was furious, and a little scared. But mostly she felt betrayed and she was directing her anger and fear and pain the closest target.

No. Not the closest target. The target.

She scrambled over the bed and got caught up in the sheets. How many times before had he seen her get tangled up in bedsheets, to her frustration? She wasn’t pregnant during those times, but she was always beautiful. More than once, he’d taken her while she was all caught up in the sheets and enjoyed the feel of her thrashing against him and the sheets that bound them. But she was pissed off at him and he didn’t understand why. She threw pillows. Then she waddled over to him and tried to hit him with said pillows. Drake didn’t flinch or try to avoid her.

Her center of balance was so far off that even his avoidance of her attack would send her crashing to the floor.

Finally, she threw the crumpled up note at him. Drake lowered his shield and knelt to pick it up. When he read it, Drake sighed and crumpled up the second thing that the Guild Master had left for him to deal with inside of twenty-four hours. He wished that the Guild Master had given him a heads-up about telling Rilandra. He didn’t want to start their talk here, but now he didn’t have a choice.

Rilandra...let’s take a moment and…

He almost said calm down, but then decided that he still liked having his cock attached to his body.

Rilandra, let’s go back in time to where you and I had an honest conversation without screaming at each other. None of this is good for the baby. Why don’t we sit down and talk about what’s going on, okay?” he asked, gesturing to the foot of the bed. If she sat, he would kneel before her, unshielded, and let her have the higher ground.

I’m not moving to Askavi. I...just no. It’s not that I don’t want to see Illyrian, but I can’t live among her people. My life is like an eyeblink to her. Ten years from now, I’ll have gray hair. Thirty years from now, I might be long dead. She’s going to look the same and be the same and…” his voice trailed off.

I’m not leaving you. But I think it’s time we talked about my responsibilities here at Court. I’m bonded to the Queen of another Territory. That can’t be easy for you. None of this is.” Drake said.

Which is why I’m willing to step down if you want to find someone that you’re more comfortable with in the role.

“Rilandra...let’s take a moment and…”

She wanted him to say calm down. She waited for it, almost dared him to do it. When his words took a different turn, she glared at him suspiciously. When he mentioned the baby, her hands curled over her belly protectively. She looked at the mess she had made of her bed and her room. She could already hear Jeremiah's small noises of disapproval. Especially if he knew she was currently standing on her bed screaming at her First Escort.

Taking a deep breath, she tried to sit down. Of course from standing, the bed was a long way down and the floor even further. With a combination of awkwardly slow movements, she lowered herself to sit on the edge while Drake knelt in front of her. He lowered his Shields and she wanted to smack him over the head and grab him and hold him all at once. She managed to not do either.

She listened as he talked. She very nearly interrupted him seven times, but in the end managed not to. “You’re really not moving to Askavi?” she asked softly, her feet dangling over the side of the tall bed.

“Don't do that! Don't tell me you're not leaving me and then offer to leave me! Do people really not understand how infuriating that is?” If she still had anything left at hand to throw at him right then, she would have. “Okay. Okay. Let's talk. And then… we can make a decision together.”

She sighed. “I want you to be able to see your Queen. You haven't even mentioned her to me. No, it's not easy. Watching you with her… I felt like I couldn't breathe. Like when you hit the mat too hard and it knocks the air out of you. It hurt.” She looked down at her lap. “It still hurts. But… she's yours. I thought you were waiting for the right time to tell me that you were leaving. And then I got this and I thought… I mean why else has our contract been terminated? What's happened?”

When it seemed that she was listening, Drake breathed a sigh of relief. The last thing he needed as Jeremiah bursting in here and finding him as the cause of her misery. Jeremiah was a Black Widow Warlord Prince and he belonged to Rilandra. Brothers in the Triangle or not, he knew that Jeremiah would brook no danger to his Queen, just as Drake would not. Still, he wished that he could tell Rilandra everything.

Some secrets had to remain that way, though.

I’m not moving to Askavi. I told Illyrian that when we talked that day. She and I agreed to see each other as soon as possible, but things haven’t worked out that way.” Drake said gently.

She was furious and hurting. She didn’t seem like she’d accept his resignation. On one hand, he felt that she should have known that. On the other hand, he knew few Queens to accept a male into their service with divided loyalties. They’d known, in the back of their minds, that it was still possible for Drake to find his Queen. They’d never really talked about what it would mean. He wished that they’d had that talk right now.

At least they’d have a plan.

I haven’t talked to you about Illyrian because I know it hurt you to see the bond happen. I felt it. Even over Drakkar’s unending rage. They’re...a thing, those two. I think if I look at Illyrian with anything other than respect and admiration, Drakkar might drag me across a rock or ten. Or just throw me off of a cliff and see if I sprout wings.” Drake said, laughing at his attempt at black humor. He took a deep breath.

I didn’t know that the Guild Master was going to send you that, RIlandra. If I had, I would have been here so that we could read it together. The shortest answer is that the contract you had drawn up for my services is over. I have to start taking contracts again.” he said, looking up into her eyes.

I still want to be your First Escort. Your safety and defense are my priority, but I may not be the one who can provide that to you. I believe in you. I always have and I always will.” Drake said. He wanted her to succeed. He needed her to, or all of this was for nothing.

Been thinking lately about you and me...about all of this. Someone told me that I needed to find a person that I could share things with. I need to offer myself up to someone and pray that they can accept it.” Drake said.

Even before Illyrian came along, I wanted it to be you, Rilandra. I want to stay here by your side, but it’s not going to be easy. Never again. I need to know that you can accept me no matter what happens next.” he said, laying his head in her lap as best he could.

No matter who dies.

Could she accept him the way he needed her to? That was what he was really asking her. He had asked her once before and she said she would.

But then she hadn’t.

The contract that she had taken out of desperation had bought her time. It had held her Triangle together when Val was ready to disavow all of them for being so tightly connected to a Myos. Riley had been angry and horrified that Drake had killed Claudia's mother. But she had been terrified when Artur spelled out for her exactly how much her life would have been worth to the Myos, and reminded her that while she had protected Dena Nehele’s Queens, that was where the protection ended.

The entire reason she had taken the contract in the first place was to ensure that there would not be something that could tear them all apart. When Drake had… no. When Striker had killed Claudia’s mother, she didn’t know how her Triangle would get through it. Val was the most righteous of them all. He could not understand how she and Sebastian could come to terms with what had happened and the requirements of the Guilds. Riley herself had been livid. Striker hadn’t known that the contract was for Claudia’s mother, but someone had. And the fact that they were willing to use one Court member against another like that…

Even then, she had been unwilling to give Drake up or release him from her service. She had clipped his wings, and his fury when he learned had matched hers. She remembered it clearly: it was the first time he ever crossed the line they had been dancing around and fucked her. And once they had started, it had been very difficult to stop. He had tried to put that distance back between them and she had tried to listen. Both had failed miserably when it came to keeping their hands on their own bodies when they were alone and unobserved.

Hadn’t she always known on some level that the Artur Contract would be temporary? And now that it was gone, Striker was expected to be a Myos again. Maybe she should have never tried to interfere in the first place. It was what he was. It was who he was.

Striker was willing to remain at her side and only see his Queen on rare occasions. But he would never abandon his Guild and he would never disobey the Guild Master. Everyone had a line. This would be Drake’s. She remembered what it felt like when Luca drew his line and she crossed it.

She still carried the scar where his blade had very nearly failed to miss her heart. For remembrance. As a reminder. What use was that if she didn’t take that lesson to heart now?

”Do you know why I don’t tell you that I love you?” She had been quiet for a long time now. And when her words came they didn’t sound like the answer to the question he had asked. ”Because I do. Love you. And saying it, telling you when I know that you have commitments and loyalties that have nothing to do with me or this or here...” She didn’t know if he could understand the meaning of what she was trying to say, but she kept trying to explain.

”I know you will never be mine and mine alone. I tried to cheat with your contract. But the Myos aren’t just your Guild.” Riley raised her hand to run her fingers through his hair before letting them drift lightly over his cheek. ”This is what you are. You are Myos. And Illyrian will always be your Queen. These are the realities of our lives.”

”But you know what I think? I think… I think that it’s time I accept you with the same fierceness you’ve accepted me.” She held out her hand for his, and then brought it to the swell of her belly. ”I am having another man’s child. I know we don’t talk about it like that, but it’s true. And you have stayed beside me. I know this isn’t easy. I don’t need easy. I need you.”

I need you.

Nearly two years ago, they were in this very room when Rilandra Vlas felt the walls closing in around her. He remembered how hot it was that summer, but in this room the world between them had chilled. Rilandra was terrified of the future. She needed someone to stand beside her as she ruled a Territory that wanted to see her stripped of her power and render her a failed Queen. He’d came here to find her and she’d asked him to be her First Escort because she couldn’t do this alone.

That wasn’t even the worse thing they faced that year, but they’d leaned on each other during that time. He’d tried to keep his feelings for her separate from the requirements of his position. She’d agreed to the things he needed to keep his head above water but they flirted with danger each and every time they were together. It wasn’t until she’d taken out the Artur Contract that he’d finally thrown caution to the wind and taken what he wanted. Back then, he’d allowed himself to believe that if Rilandra wasn’t his Queen, he just wouldn’t find her. It made sense to choose one that he believed in, then, because it meant that he could be there for someone he desired and cared for.

Before he was merely a killer who chose his own path.

Now he lead the Myos Guild. He commanded Dena Nehele’s most dangerous killers. He decided who lived and who died when the contracts crossed his desk. Two of the most powerful people in Dena Nehele sat in this room, connected by their love for each other and divided by all of the responsibilities that power conferred upon them. He never envisioned this life for himself as a boy, but this was the life he had.

Do you know why I don’t tell you that I love you?” he asked after she fell silent, echoing the words she’d said to him. “Because I love you, too, Rilandra. I love you and I never planned to love you. I didn’t even plan to be here this long with you. I was absolutely certain that you’d wake up one morning, realize that you’d gone temporarily insane, and send my ass packing back to Tulzbruja as fast as you could. But you never did.” Drake said, squeezing her hands.

I know you’ll never be mine alone. I remember the things you told me about you and Remus. I know, in a sense, what Valeriu wanted and why he fought so hard to push me out. Not because he was jealous or anything, but because he wanted you to be pure. He wanted you to be the Queen he needed and that Queen, that woman, couldn't be tainted at all.” he said softly.

You have males. You have other lovers. Hell, you have children.” he said, laughing at the joke. “You have enemies. There is no world where it’s just you and anyone else, not ever. I used to think you had it easy and now…” he said, falling silent as reality settled hard on his shoulders. He could never know her burdens. After all, he’d accepted the mantles of Myos Guild Lead and First Escort of Dena Nehele. He could lay them down if he chose, though it would cost him his life. But he had the choice to do so.

Rilandra could not stop being a Queen even if she stopped ruling Dena Nehele someday.

Now I understand that you’ve been putting aside what you want for the greater good your entire life. Saddling you with my feelings seemed like the most selfish thing I could do. You carry a lot of burdens, Rilandra. I didn’t want my expectations or needs to be among them.” he said.

She placed his hand on her belly where the life of her child with Valeriu grew stronger each day.

I said that I'm not leaving. I will make things work with Illyrian. I want to see her. I need to. But I told her that I wasn’t leaving you and it wasn't because of any contract. I should have told you that sooner, but I got caught up in my own life falling apart a little bit and...you need to focus on this baby.” he said.

Yes, this is hard but we’re going to get through this. I promise you that.

Drake offered her words of reassurance and her body and mind settled further. She could take deep breaths now without her chest burning. She could look at him and not want to scream or cry. Her fingers interlaced with his where they rested against the swell of her belly. Her breathing eased. Her heart beat slowed.

”We’ll get through this,” she repeated. Maybe if she said it enough, she might actually fucking believe it.

”Come here,” she said, pulling on his arm as if she could yank him up onto the bed with her. ”Come herrrrrrre.” Drake stood and moved onto the bed beside her. She crawled back up to the head of the bed and curled up on her side, reaching for him awkwardly to indicate she wanted him to put his arms around her.

After he settled her against him, she began to talk again. ”First, yes, you should have told me sooner. But also… I could have asked. I’ve been worried and scared and convinced myself you were just waiting to leave. I didn’t want to ask because if the answer was yes, I didn’t really want to know. But not knowing hasn’t exactly helped either of us.”

Riley snuggled back against him closer, pressing her back against his chest. ”Second, you need to schedule when you will see Illyrian next. When I thought you were leaving that was one thing. But knowing you’re staying, you can’t let too much time go between seeing her. It’ll tear at your heart.” The last words were spoken quietly. Riley knew the feeling intimately. It was one thing to mourn for ones bonded. It was another to know they were out there and be denied their presence.

”Jeremiah can help you work out the scheduling, I’m sure.” Her fingers tightened on his. Early morning light streamed through her windows, highlighting parts of her skin while casting others in darkness. ”And third is something I should have been telling you long before now."

"I love you, Striker.”

She repeated his words back to him. That helped him believe that things would be alright. She invited him up onto the bed with her, so Drake shrugged off his coat and dropped it on the floor, leaving him in a cotton shirt and pants as he settled in behind her. He placed his arms around her as best his could, hand over her much larger belly. There was something so strange about knowing that she could have been carrying his child if things were different. He wasn’t angry about it, but now he wondered what that would have been like for both of them. Neither of them were people who could accept marriage or monogamy. They both needed things that one person alone could not provide.

But he also recognized that if Val was awake, this conversation probably wouldn’t be happening.

It was that knowledge that forced Drake to organize his words so that he could listen to his Queen speak. His talks with Cid and Jeremiah underlined the need for him to be honest with her, as honest as he could, and let her see the parts of his life that he’d refused to grant her before now. Even as his mind sought the right words to give her, she was speaking and her grasp on his hand tightened. She wanted him to see Illyrian. He wanted that too, but not before he put things in order here. The early morning light brought a new day and a new facet to what lay between them.

I love you, too, Rilandra Vlas. I want you to know that, no matter what happens.” he said, kissing her shoulder. She used his real name and that meant more than she could know.

He took a deep breath.

There are some things I need to tell you, since we’re being honest. Like I said, there's a change in the Myos Guild and I’m going to be doing more. Fortunately, I think the guild leader will work with me where you’re concerned.” Drake said.

Second, I will talk to Jeremiah and figure out how to see Illyrian. I can feel it already, the way that not seeing her feels. It’s like walking around with a rock in a my shoe that’s steadily getting larger.” Drake said. He couldn’t imagine how Luca could stay away from Riley, feeling like this. It had only been months and he wanted to climb the walls.

The third thing I need to say is...you were right and I was wrong.

He let that hang in the air for a moment.

I love you. I knew it back when you asked me but I was trying to protect myself while telling myself I was protecting you. I didn’t want to put you in a bad place by being loyal to me. But...you chose me more than once. I need to choose you. I want to choose you.” he said. Drake said, shifting so that she could look over her shoulder at him. He wanted her to hear him and see his face and the honesty in his request.

I know that you can’t do it right now, but...after the baby comes and you’re healed, I want you to consider something.” he said.

I would be honored and grateful if you would grant me the blood bond and tying us together for as long as I can serve you and beyond that.

He listened to her and absorbed what she said and then offered her his thoughts in return. The Myos were changing and Drake’s duties changed with it. Was it good that Val no longer served as Steward? He had the most strenuous objection to a Myos serving within her Triangle. Considering the fight began at the suspicion and confirmation that Striker had killed Claudia’s mother, Riley had understood that objection in a deep and personal way.

The contract had bought her time. Things were different now. Drake was bound to another Queen but choosing to stay with her. And the price was that he would need to return to the duties she had insisted he forsake. Riley was Guild raised if anyone ever was. She understood, even if she didn’t want to, that Drake may be loyal to her, but Striker, his true self, would always be loyal to the Myos.

”You were right and I was wrong.”

She very nearly asked if she had heard him correctly. Instead, she went rather still and quiet, as if he was a spooked woodland creature that would easily startle and flee if she drew attention to what he was saying at that exact moment. When he shifted so that she could look over her shoulder at him, she did, her hair framing her face as she listened still, the only movement caused by the rise and fall of her breath.

That moment remained still and peaceful right up until he mentioned the Blood Bond.

Riley scrambled over, an awkward feat given her current shape, until she was rolled over facing him and sitting up. She was once again tangled in the sheets, but she wasn’t trying to leave the bed this time so it didn’t matter. ”You want to do what?” She stared at him in disbelief.

“You didn’t want to bond to me before when I offered. You said you couldn’t protect me. You needed to stay not bound to me. And it hurt like fuck, okay? Now you have found your Queen. You know her. She exists and is alive and has wings and yeah that’s complicated, but she’s real. You have that! Why… why do you want to Blood Bond with me now?!”

Drake knew that Rilandra wouldn’t believe him right away. As she said, he’d rebuffed her the first time she suggested the Blood Bond between them. He’d given her the very reasons she now quoted back to him, and Drake looked away as she used his own words against him. He gave her time to roll over, belly and all, while he considered his words. The Prince was always one for a good joke or quip, but discussing his real feelings? That kind of raw honesty and vulnerability was deemed a weakness that he couldn’t allow to flourish. A Myos Guildsman needed to be calm, disconnected and collected at all times to ensure that a contract was executed.

This wasn’t a contract, though. This was his life. And hers.

You heard me. I said that I wanted the Blood Bond. I want it with you..” Drake said, his blue eyes focused on her. He cleared his throat in preparation to speak. He started to approach it coldly, clinically, as a matter of ensuring Dena Nehele’s safety (and hers) without talking about what he really wanted. That would have been the easiest way to do it. It would have told Rilandra everything she needed to know without making her feel like a means to an end.

Try as he might, he just couldn’t separate his feelings from the situation. It was a bad sign, but he didn’t give a shit. There were the only people in this room right now. He only cared about her thoughts.

I refused you before, that’s true. I refused you for the reasons that I said. But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t want it.” he said, sighing.

Yes, I found my Queen. She seems like a good person. But she and I are worlds apart. She knows that I’m not leaving you. But if anyone thought my loyalties were suspect, I’d disappear one day and you’d never see me again. Then you’d get a new member of your Court, sent by the Guildmaster, and that would be that. And no matter how much I think about it, I can’t live with the idea of leaving you, Rilandra.” Drake said.

It’s not just because of the baby, either. I cannot bring myself to leave your life or your service because I need to be here with you. I need to wake up knowing that you’re expecting to see me. I need to wake up knowing that I have to see you, touch you, and hold you...and I need to know that I can do all of that.” Drake said.

Jeremiah told him to tell her the truth, the real truth, before it destroyed him. Until now, Drake thought he could get by without saying it and still be okay. But the words came tumbling out and he couldn’t stop them.

I’m in love with you, Rilandra Vlas. I can never have you in full. You’re carrying another man’s child. And you’ll always have other males who need you. All of that used to bother me. A lot. But after everything we’ve been through, I can’t let that bother me anymore. I need you in my life and I need you to be sure of my loyalty to you and to Dena Nehele. I will sort things with Illyrian.” he said, resolute in his duty to address his bonded Queen. Today, though, he needed to address things with the Queen he’d chosen that day on a rooftop two years ago.

I love you and I’m not leaving. I want the Blood Bond and...I’m going to ply you until you say yes.

Everything he said made sense. But then Drake always made sense. And just because he made sense didn’t mean that there wasn’t something underneath his words that she needed to search for, to root out.

Except… he was already saying the things she would have looked for between the lines. ”I love you and I’m not leaving.” The words seemed to echo through her mind before they ricocheted throughout her entire being. Only then, after she felt them hit her with the full impact again and again did it finally settle around her heart.

He loved her. He wanted to be with her. He would offer up even more of his freedom if it meant he could be a part of her life and Court and not have that place threatened. “You mean it,” she said. It wasn’t a question. She could feel that he did, even as her doubts and insecurities welled up within her and threatened to chip apart the solid ground he was offering her to stand on.

”When you say you’ll sort this with Illyrian, that is going to include the fact that I didn’t lure you into this, right? The last thing Dena Nehele needs right now is to be at war with Askavi because their Queen thinks I am trying to steal her male. Even though you’re also my male. Just… no wars, please?” She wanted to ask for the details but she knew better. She had to trust her people or she would truly exhaust herself second guessing everything that anyone told her.

Her fingers brushed against his cheek before her hand came to rest against the side of his face. “Tell me again,” she asked. “Because once we decide to do this, we’re not turning back. I need to hear it. So tell me again.” Before he could finish his answer, she leaned forward and pressed her lips lightly against his, catching his bottom lip with her teeth.

Yes, I mean it.” Drake said, echoing her words. He knew that Rilandra wasn’t trying to intentionally doubt him. She’d been through a lot lately, though. She was still going through a lot. He understood feeling insecure and worried about her place in his life, especially now that Illyrian was revealed to be his Queen. His heart was making allowance for Illyrian’s place in relation to him, but his new bond had also solidified the bonds in his life that he wanted to keep. Sway. Jeremiah. Nick.

Rilandra.

Yeah, I’ll make sure she knows that. But I told her when we were talking that I wasn’t leaving you. I’ll make frequent trips. I’ll do whatever I have to do, short of leaving you. No wars. We don’t need that right now. Or ever, really..” Drake said, taking her hand. He kissed the pads of her fingertips, watching her and trying to anticipate her next question or statement. Rilandra’s fingers brushed against his cheek and her hand rested against the side of his face. The Red Prince leaned into her touch, letting his cares drain away. His mind was always occupied with fixing things, making them better for Rilandra and the rest of the Court. He was always looking for ways to keep the Myos Guild foremost in Dena Nehele’s minds.

Right now, he could set that down and just be with Rilandra right now.

I want to take the blood bond with you, Rilandra. I mean it. I want to be bound to you and stay--.” Drake said.

He never finished his sentence. Rilandra was kissing him and biting his bottom lip with her teeth. He moaned and kissed her hard. His hands reached for her, pulling her close against him as he could.

Not leaving. Never leaving. Get used to it.” he murmured between kisses.
