Personality

Personality:

Kirill is a workaholic. Good with numbers since a young age and knowing it, he stuck to doing things that build off this talent. He can and will bury himself in his work, finding it both enjoyable as well as relaxing, ignoring what else goes on around him, only taking care of basic necessities. While he considers his main job to be accounts, he has an impressive knowledge of contract law and reads up on even the most obscure of laws in his free time.

While knowledgeable about trade, contracts, and law he is bad at negotiating them. That isn't wondrous considering Kirill's tendency to overlook or ignore social and political cues. He doesn't ignore the right things, he doesn't pay attention to the right things and he certainly doesn't say the right things.
Aside from his work, this also affects his personal life. Usually grumpy when dragged away from his work, short of patience with people, short of temper when disturbed in his work, not intuitive or emphatic when it comes to others emotions, needs, and motives, with a habit of stating the obvious, for better or worse, it is no wonder that his circle of friends is small.

Those difficulties at forging connections make for a quiet and pretty lonely life. He likes the quiet and going about his day undisturbed, but in truth, he needs -craves- connections and so he tries to hold on to those he has. Excessive contact is still not his thing, rather it shows in his loyalty. If you are his friend, the only thing you have to do is to ask for his help and you will have it. Not that he won't grump about it and tell you it's a bad idea but he will support his friends no matter what. Even against his better judgment.

Being constantly buried with his work, and finding more to stay busy Kirill is otherwise slow to act. In part, because he sees no reason to, after all, he doesn't have any goals and needs beyond working, does he? So it takes some prodding, pushing and pulling to get him going. Though, once he does, he is decisive about it. Consequences be damned. That course of action will most often be straightforward, but on occasion he comes up with unexpected solutions.

One of Kirills cousins once remarked that the Prince shares an unfortunate resemblance with a mule. Things go Kirill's way or they don't go at all. He is working on the issue of cooperating with others but a lack of practice means varying results in that area. According to family gossip he is also a good listener. At least once you have illustrated the need for him to listen from start to finish, after all he does get bored easily. When he does listen he even offers up advice, the helpfulness of which is questionable and he can keep a secret.

Likes:
  • his work – Paperwork, Math, law, Books, it's bliss.  Be it rain or sunshine, or the rest of the house going up in flames, days, when Kirill can work without interruption, are good days.
  • Challenges – All pretensions aside, this prince likes mental challenges and has a competitive streak when it comes to them. Solving puzzles of the logical kind satisfies him immensely. It is this character trait and treating situations as puzzles that can lead to creative, unexpected solutions.
  • His people – meaning family and the friends he has. He cherishes them and is genuinely thankful to have them.
Dislikes:
  • disruptions – for reasons unknown people constantly barge in demand his attention. How is one supposed to get anything done? Yes. It's impossible and that pisses Kirill off quite a lot, resulting in him indiscriminately shouting at whoever came in. Needless to say not every person whomever dared disrupt his work is one he should be shouting at.
  • socializing – He has felt his failures in this particular activity often enough and has been told about it even more. This isn't helped by the fact that no one quite understands how an aristo and Prince can be so bad at it. Frankly, Kirill doesn't understand it either but that's the way it is. Something he doesn't entirely acknowledge but which factors into it, is his rather peculiar and particular way about deciding whom he wants to deal with. Could be he simply doesn't like a persons voice and it is going to send his willingness to deal with said person further south. On the other hand, it means he can like people for small things and is willing to overlook a host of their particular failures.
  • Introspection – Thinking is good, but thinking about himself, why he is the way he is and such is not one of Kirills favorite activities. After all he is who he is. In effect, this means that while possessing the capability of reflecting himself, he rarely does so and ends up set in his ways and on occasion ignoring his own needs, simply because he doesn't realize them.
Fears:
  • finding himself alone – despite, or maybe exactly because of, his disposition and experiences Kirill finds himself wondering, if one day he will wake up and find himself alone. For while he likes his peace and quiet and being left to his own devices he craves connections, needs others to need him.
  • But he also fears relationships. While he requires people he is comfortable with and vice versa, there is a strong fear of being emotionally reliant on others. Through his mother's suicide he knows well, that those closest to him can choose to disappear on him in the blink of an eye. And so he draws lines, builds barriers and tries to balance those fears and needs out, without fully realizing them.
  • Damage to his mind – As someone who considers himself to be ruled by reason, rather than emotion, Kirills fears the loss off his ability to think and reason. This doesn't pertain just to long-term effects, but also the short term, as for example being under influence of alcohol and drugs. He will avoid any and all activities that could have such results, at least for himself. Any other person is free to do what they want.
Craft Strengths:
  • Efficiency craft – Kirill considers efficiency craft a useful tool, through organizing and streamlining information he can process a lot of it in a short amount of time. He is also capable of using efficiency craft in other aspects of life, but not yet reliably.
  • fine telekinetic craft – Aside from the fact that this particular form of craft is very useful when juggling a great number of papers, precision is something Kirill appreciates. As a result he has trained his fine-control so he can move around more objects in any way he wants them to.  On the by, it saves him a lot of walking around and searching through stuff.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Diplomacy craft – although a prince, Kirill simply can't get his mind wrapped around this craft. He understands the theory of it but applying it is another matter altogether.
  • Reading and manipulating emotions – Kirill is not good at understanding the emotions of others. Using Craft doesn't help with the problem. Yes, he gets information, but he doesn't know what to do with it. As a result he is also unable to manipulate emotions it apparently feels more like he imposes them because he is obvious about it.
Life Story

Family:
Mother:Denisa Nicolaev - Tiger Eye to Summer Sky Witch - deceased
Father: Timur Nicolaev - Blood Opal to Sapphire prince - 59 years old
aunt:Sofia Nicolaev - Yellow to Tiger Eye Priestress - 60 Years old
uncle:Volya Nicolaev - Tiger Eye to Purple Dusk warlord - 47 years old

History:

The Nicolaevs are, as anyone will tell you, a big and silly family. They can't help it, some say, they're everywhere and therefore bound to intermarry. There is some truth to it, after all, their ways to survival in the world of aristocrats and politics are numbers. You can kill some of them but never all because somewhere one of them will have a connection to you or your allies. Into this family married a Sapphire Prince who didn't have much family of his own. He was slightly overwhelmed but found that he loved this big, silly family and so he swore to make sure that they were all right. Yes, he and his wife were truly a happy pair. The only drop of bitterness was, that they didn't have children of their own. Couldn't have them, or so a Healer told the wife. They never spoke about it but it slowly darkened their hearts. So imagine the joy when unexpectedly she was pregnant and finally Kirill was born.

Needless to say, he was very much beloved and a tad spoiled. He had the life every child could wish of. Well, if you ignored the female cousins. Who had, at a young age, developed a tendency of dragging the poor boy along with them. But every family has their problems. So did Kirills. Still a small boy, the older he got the more he realized something was wrong with his mother. He couldn't say what but around the time of his birth ceremony he was certain. And it only got worse. Still, he didn't really question it, after all, that was the way it was, though his father once told him “She wasn't always like that.”. Life went on and for Kirill it meant tutoring, books and trying to keep overzealous girls away from himself. He didn't go out much, what reason was there for playing with others if he could read books and work on the puzzles his teachers gave him? He couldn't find one and so the boy played alone most of the time. When he was among others his age it got awkward because he simply didn't know what to do with them. His father was worried but Kirill seemed happy, so he let it go.

Life continued on like that until it didn't. One day she suddenly wasn't there anymore. She couldn't come back, they said. Gone to the darkness. He was eleven now and he could not understand it. No one could explain, because in truth they couldn't either. For a time Kirill withdrew into himself, but he tried to deal with it. Tried to find his feet again and so he agreed to go out with his family and let himself be distracted. Only, it didn't work. For a time wherever they went people gave their condolences, asked him, if he was alright. And behind his back, they said mean things, bad things. It didn't give the boy the fuzziest of feelings about society as a whole and so he avoided it wherever he could.

Time passed and children became teenagers. Even Kirill, usually not very interested what was proper or expected from him, wanted to explore the world, define himself and expand his social circle as most teenagers do. His efforts in that direction didn't exactly go well. His lack of experience and capabilities in dealing with people lend themselves to creating many strange situations and a few friendships his family wasn't sure they approved of. It seemed, that the connections he did forge led him down the path of becoming even more isolated from normal society.

At last his father decided: No it couldn't go on like this and his son needed help. In short order Kirill was 'apprenticed' to someone with connections to his family and put to work. It wasn't long until he was sent back to his father by an enraged superior, confessing that he didn't know what he did wrong. Well, apparently you didn't tell your superiors that they were utterly incompetent, even if it was the truth. This incident set the tone for the following years. He went somewhere and worked there. No one could fault his work, but, as they complained, it was simply impossible to work with him. Frankly, after the first few times he didn't care anymore. Why should he? And so he became used to never settling down, never having friends and being reliant only onto himself.

To everyone's surprise he kept his latest job with the Concords for nearly three years. According to Kirill it is because everyone got the memo to leave him alone. Those last years have been quiet, peaceful and a bit lonely for him. At least until this summer, until the decimation. His family suddenly became smaller and less bright.  His aunt's jewels were broken, his uncle broken to birthright, as well as two of his cousins, one died. And he was devastated. Not that he saw them that often, but he knew they were around. There if he asked them for company. His family, which always seemed like life couldn't stop them. So he went home with the intention of helping out however he could. Which he did, to a certain extent. He wasn't any good at helping overcome the grief, of offering support and advice but he could and did have their backs. It was good to be there for them but it's also been grueling, because sometimes he feels like an outsider, like this wasn't truly the place he belonged. Not that he didn't constantly feel this way, just that here, it was more painful. So when it was decided that they would reach out to more distant family relations he agreed to go without much of a fuss. After some back and forth Kirill agreed to 'go find Cid' because, apparently hearing he wasn't fine through others isn't good enough. So here he is, on his way to Brisaov, Aechia, not having a clue as to what he is actually supposed to accomplish.

Character in Play:

Kirill did his best not to glower at the woman in front of him. Really, it wasn't her fault that he felt so exasperated, but he could not take one more official, superfluous word or gesture. There was already a pulsing headache from having the same instructions and cautioning repeated at him the whole day. His jaw hurt from clenching it in an effort not to shout at well-meaning people who asked him if he was sure. The Priestess glared back at him while carrying on. Why did they need all this? Everyone went through this. It was natural, instinct, at least it felt this way to him.  No need to make a fuss. Deep breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Ignore all else. Slowly he calmed, started focusing on the here and now.

Following instinct and the Priestess instructions he stepped into the abyss descending towards the familiar Rose threads of power. Sinking into them, feeling them surround him, their power ready to be used at the merest thought. He wondered what they felt like to others. To him they felt like a shadowy embrace. Light, but still part of the darkness. Safe and secure. He gazed down, towards the Summer Sky threads he could barely see beneath him.  Felt the pull downwards. It had been there for a while growing steadily stronger. Now staying was almost uncomfortable. He gave in. Stopped holding himself at Rose and started sinking slowly. Leaving familiar territory he sank into Summer Sky taking his time to take in the threads. He could feel that they carried more weight than his birthright. He felt that he could use them, take them as his but it wasn't right and the pull to go deeper was still there.

Summer Sky threads became those of Purple Dusk. For a moment it felt safer to reach out to hold onto them and stay. Acceptance but no welcome. And the pull was still there. Calming himself again he went deeper, slowing his descent to a crawl when he finally reached Opal. Almost. He took in the threads with wonder. Yes, this was right. Just a bit deeper until he stopped and settled down. He didn't know how long he sat there, just feeling the power around him. To him it felt like a lot. His gaze wandered down where he knew the threads of the darker jewels lay. Shivers ran down his body as he thought how it must feel to be there, having crossed the border from light to dark. Clearly not for him. He was happy and comfortable amidst the opal webs. Just looking at them.

Blinking he found himself in front of the altar. There was no telling how much time had passed but he was blessedly alone. And exhausted, his stomach growled and hungry. Sighing he rubbed his eyes and stared at the uncut Opal jewel in his hand. How strange it was, he wondered, so much fuss, but nothing had changed. Well, the power he could wield had changed, but he was still the same person he had been before. Maybe that was the point? Rolling his eyes he got up, grimacing at cramping muscles. The better question was how he could sneak away. He had no intention of getting roped into a conversation just now and he really needed something to eat. And a bed. After all, tomorrow wouldn't wait for him.
