Distinguishing Features:

Personality

Personality:

At the heart of it all, Cez cares deeply and is fiercely protective of those she considers hers. She’s the friend that makes sure you’re taking time for yourself, drinking water, and reminding you that your ex is your ex for a reason.  Feeding people is her love language, and she’s happiest when she has people over for a meal and a pint.  Having a rough week? Bad date? Kid’s Birthright Ceremony, and you don’t have time to cook? Cezara’s got you.

She gets great satisfaction from setting things right.  Doesn’t matter if it’s solving a logistics nightmare at the Tavern, listening to one of the regulars’ problems while tending the bar, or helping her family work the farm.  If she’s being honest with herself, her feeling of self-worth is tightly tied to her feeling of usefulness.  And even if she’s aware of the issue, she’s not quite ready to tackle it.

There’s no doubt that she’s a Hearth Witch, you’d only have to take one look at the spotless kitchen to figure that out.  But there’s always a moment of surprise when people first meet her.  There’s an intensity about her that tends to throw people.  Cez isn’t the light and fluffy kind of witch that some people think of when they think ‘Hearth Witch’.  There’s an intensity to her gaze, even when she’s helping people. It’s clear that you have her complete attention when she’s speaking to you. She’ll be glad to help you, although there’s one thing she doesn’t suffer it’s fools.  Ignorance is fine, she’ll work to teach you.  But willful ignorance she has zero time for.

She’s a doer by nature, and her passion is channeled into doing for others, even if it’s to her own detriment. With her tendency to try to solve problems, Cez does try her hardest to not involve herself too much in the lives of those she cares about.  She doesn’t mean to meddle, she just, well has opinions and ideas about everything. It’s one of the perks of bartending, it lets her act as a sounding board to patrons that are deep in their cups.

Still, she’s learned (through a horribly embarrassing family situation) the following things. a) Don’t give unsolicited advice. It never goes as well as you’d like, and often people just want someone to listen.  b) Saying “I told you so” should be avoided at all costs.  Even if you did, in fact, tell them exactly what would happen, it's better to internally acknowledge the point and move on. After all, no one likes a know it all. And c) Sometimes, in fact, you don’t know it all and can, in fact, be wrong.  While she’s improved greatly on the “I told you so” issue, one of her pet peeves is when people continuously ask for advice about the same issue, but never do anything different.  Why bother going through the motions if you’re not going to do something?

If she’s feeling particularly introspective, Cezara does realize that her tendency to want to fix things allows her to ignore her own issues.  Focusing on others allows her to worry less about being single at her age while all of her family and friends are settling down, and even having families of their own. Living vicariously through others means that she doesn’t have to wonder if she’s been so career-focused that she’s missed her chance to have a life outside of the inn & tavern.

Since the Decimation, she’s been more sharp.  Not that she couldn’t be before, and she never takes her feelings out on the staff, but her humor is a little more biting, her overall mood darker.  She feels a great deal that she should’ve been the one to shield, that she should be the one broken.  Not her customers and staff, who she was supposed to take care of.

She still puts on a good face for the customers, but the regulars and folks who know Cez can see that she’s dimmer than what she used to be.  Logically, she knows that she isn’t to blame.  But it’s still hard for her to listen to logic when she can see the result of what she considers to be her failure in the village every day.

Likes:
  • 1 An organized workspace. Her family finds this to be hilarious, as her personal space is often a cluttered mess.  Cez, however,  argues that it is an organized mess, she knows where everything is.  However in the Inn & Tavern, every item has its own place, and Darkness help whoever decides to mess up her system.

  • 2 Solving puzzles. It doesn’t matter if its an actual puzzle, deciding who gets seated next to whom at a dinner party or sussing out details from the bits of conversation she overhears. Cezara likes to figure out how things fit together.  There’s a bit of a rush when she figures things out.  She’s the sort that loves the ‘unsolvable’ problems and takes great delight in figuring them out. Not that she’d throw them back in anyone’s face of course.

  • 3 Feeding people. Cezara loves to cook, and it’s not uncommon for her to show up at her friend’s doors with a plate of cookies, cake, or some new recipe she’s trying out. Have a bad breakup or your kid has a Birthright Ceremony coming up? There’s a good chance that Cez will bring food and drinks to try and help out.  Food is something that can bring folks together, and that’s something she can always get behind. At least once a week, she holds a staff dinner for her employees. She cooks up a slew of food, brings up a keg, and closes early so that her staff can take a moment to blow off some steam.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Being seen as just a country bumpkin.  Cez knows she’s Hearth Witch from a poor rural community.  But her people are some of the most hardworking, and caring people she’s known. They may not have the polish the Aristos in Bidea may have, but they’re fierce, loyal, and (in her mind) closer to what Mother Night intended for the Blood to be.

  • 2 Idleness. Cezara likes to be busy.  Not just for the sake of busy, mind you, but too much downtime makes her feel like she’s missing something that she should be doing.  With her staff, she’s just as stringent on them as she is with herself.  That’s not to say that she works them into the ground, but she expects a certain level of work from them.  Breaks are fine, hiding in the back room throwing dice, are not.

  • Not knowing what’s going on Cez likes to be in the know.  That’s not to say that she’s the town gossip (she does have some manners, you know), but she likes to be aware of what’s going on in her little village.  She likes to know all of the connections and stories that often form in small towns.  It’s equal parts wanting to fix problems, and just being plain nosy.  It helps that everyone likes to confess to their local bartender.

     Fears:
  • 1 Rookwood changing. The village has always been the largest village in the area, and with its location being what it is, a large-ish hub of activity. However, since Oryon has been ruling, there’s been an influx of people. And, sure, it’s good for her business, but she worries that now that it’s the District Seat, the character of her sleepy mountain village will change, and not necessarily for the better.

  • 2 Her business failing.  Right now, business is booming, and she actually has a hard time keeping rooms available.  The tavern is doing great, and thus far, she hasn’t had any customers that have caused problems.  Still, she can’t help but think she’s been too lucky and is waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  • 3 Ending up with nothing but her business. Cez comes from a rather boisterous and involved family.  Even when she feels like they’re far too nosy about her life, she’s grateful for them.  While her job keeps her busy, and she considers her staff a part of her extended family, she worries that she’s never going to find someone to settle down with.  She desperately wants someone to come home to, not just the occasional dalliance.

    `   Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Psychic Cleansing & Masking Spells. Growing up with a Warlord Prince for a brother, Cezara learned that the ability to clean psychic scents from difficult surfaces like fabric came in handy.  Sometimes, it was the difference between having to throw out an item, and simply giving it a really good clean.  Learning to Mask her psychic scent was a byproduct of living with several males who took great interest in her state of mind.  Sometimes, a witch just wants to have a moment of privacy, and that’s hard to do if your scent screams your feelings to nosy brothers.

  • 2 Extended Duration Spells. Cezara prefers to work smarter, not harder.  So she’s worked very hard at getting more use out of her hearth witch spells, allowing her to spend less time on the busy work type tasks.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Tracking Craft. Cez grew up in a family that enjoys hunting together, so she’s no stranger to how to track animals through the forest.  Much to her annoyance, any tracking she does has to be done without craft.  If she tries to track with craft, she can’t find the animal(or person) at all.  Even if they left a trail a mile wide, and ended right in front of her.

  • 2 Seduction Craft. Cezara is awkward enough around males that she’s interested in. The idea of being turned down, no matter how gently by someone she’s interested in for something serious, rattles her so much, that the idea of using Craft to help is terrifying.  As such, on the rare attempt, it’s more likely to fizzle if she’s lucky or be blatantly obvious if she’s not.

    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Rahela Popescu, White to Rose, witch (67, b. 128)
Father: Anastas Krupin, Yellow to Rose, Warlord (66, b. 129)
    Siblings:
Velibor Krupin, Yellow to Summer Sky, Warlord (42, b. 153 AP)
Filip Krupin, Rose to Purple Dusk, Warlord Prince (40, b. 155 AP)
    * Family is adoptable, Jewels rolled, but changeable if need be.

    History:

Third born, in a close-knit family, Cezara is quick to let you know that she is not spoiled.  As the youngest child and the only girl, there was a good chance that she would, in fact, be spoiled.  And while her brothers and father doted on her, Rahela made sure that her daughter wasn’t allowed to have the run of the household.  As such, she grew up rather rough and tumble with her brothers, and learned how to hunt, fish, and tend to the land, right alongside them.  Her childhood was rather normal for a child raised in a remote mountain village.  Like most children in the village, her lessons were squeezed in around life on the farm.  After all, sheep didn’t wait to foal just because you had to study.  It wasn’t much, but they were happy and didn’t want for much.

Her Birthright came and went, with little fanfare, though her family was shocked when she emerged clutching an uncut Purple Dusk in her fist. Her Birthright Jewel meant that she now shared the position of holding the darkest jewel in the family.  Not only that, but she’d most likely be assured of descending to a dark jewel.  Gradually  Eventually, the excitement of having her Purple Dusk lessened, and she settled into a new routine of harder classes, working the farm, and getting in trouble with her siblings.  The following years passed quickly, and while she found that she enjoyed her life on the farm, she wanted more.

She eventually talked her way into working at the Village inn, first in the kitchens, where she carried and fetched, long before the Cook allowed her to help with the meals.  It was here that she discovered her love of cooking, and discovered how satisfying feeding someone a good meal could be.  As she improved, she gradually took over more of the cooking duties, allowing the cook to spend more time at home.  By the time she was 20, she was serving in the role full time, as the previous cook had retired.

Seeing that she had a good mind for organizing things, the owner gradually began involving her in tasks outside of the kitchen.  Starting with the waiting tables, and later manning the bar, she began to gain a solid understanding of how the Inn & Tavern functioned.  Much to her surprise, she found that she not only liked the added responsibilities, but she was thriving under his tutelage.

She was 21 by the time she felt the pull to complete her Offering. Her Virgin Night had been arranged, and completed when she was 20, but this, this was something she’d waited to do.  It wasn’t that she was afraid exactly, more that she was concerned.  She knew she had the potential to descend to the Sapphire, and to be honest, she didn’t quite know how she felt about that.  Elated at the possibility of the power? Perhaps.  Unworthy? Also possible.  Still, it was time, and she would do her best.

Walking away from the altar with an Uncut Sapphire wasn’t something she’d fully expected.  And honestly? It felt good, right even.  While there were a few who wondered why the little Hearth Witch needed all that strength, her family and chosen kin were elated for her.  It took her a while to get used to her new strength, but once she did, she was pleased to see how much more she could accomplish.

The Sapphire did, however, bring her more attention than she would’ve liked.  Suddenly there were representatives from various Courts in her sleepy little village trying to entice her into serving in their Courts.  She didn’t like these strangers who previously wouldn’t have given her the time of day disrupting her life.  All because of her Sapphire.  As if the strength of her jewel of rank made her better or more capable than the other hard working people in her village.

Still, her parents didn’t raise a fool. Cez could see how it’d be useful.  She’d make connections in higher places and the income would be a boon to her family.  Even if she kept the minimum amount she’d need to get by on before sending the rest home to her mother to manage.  So, she compromised.  She politely dismissed the further away Courts, citing a need to stay close to home to help her family out.   She agreed to serve in the Rovinari Court in the Third Circle with the stipulation that she be able to occasionally split her time between the Court and Rookwood.

As much as she’d hate to admit it, her time in the Court was useful. Cez learned how to function in ‘polite society’. How to rub elbows with influential people, which meant learning how to say one thing and mean another.  She found that people spoke freely around her because she was just a Hearth Witch from a small village, and she took advantage of it, learning things she wasn’t meant to know.  All knowledge was useful after all, it was just a matter of figuring out how and when to use it.

She served three years in the Rovinari Court before declining to resign the next contract.  It was an adjustment to be at home full time, and it took several months to fully settle in.  Working at the Inn was an easy way to settle back into the groove of things in Rookwood.  It allowed her to adjust, as well as the people to readjust to having her back in their midst and realize that for all that she’d been away, she was still their Cezara.

She spent the next five years in a sort of apprenticeship, although she didn’t realize that’s what she was doing at the time.  Each time her role at stretched to take on more duties, it just seemed like a natural progression.  She was 29 before she realized that the owner was setting her up to take over when he decided to retire.  Slowly, he began to push her to handle more of the day to day operations, while he faded into the background.  By the time she was 34, she was running the Inn & Tavern full time, and he was acting in an advisory role when she needed help.

As with everywhere else, the Decimation reached Rookwood.  Cezara was working as usual when it struck. To her shame, she froze in terror.  When the wave of power rushed across the village, she froze and did nothing to help those she considers her extended family.  Instead, a handful of others threw up shields that protected them.  For all of her strength, she wasn’t able to help them. Instead, she did what she does best.  She buried her feelings of guilt and began organizing the chaos.  She opened the Tavern to survivors and tried to give them a sense of normalcy.  She found people like her who needed something to do and set them to tasks.

She spent her days cooking and feeding people, all to attempt to help and make people’s lives a bit easier.  Those who found themselves broken after shielding the Tavern began to see a stipend in their accounts at the local bank.  And while Cez will never admit to it, she sees it as the least she can do for them.  The marks come from the portion of the money she would normally be paid, not out of the income that goes back into the Inn or pays the staff.  It’s a penance of sorts to her, for not being able to do what she thinks she should’ve been able to do.  And if she drinks a little more than she used to, well that’s to be expected, right?

The past two years have seen her officially take ownership of the Inn, expansion of the staff on hand, and continued harassment from her mother, asking when she’s going to settle down.  She’s got a bustling business, that saw an influx of business as Rookwood gradually became a central hub for the neighboring villages and the more Aristo towns further down the mountain.  In fact, the business has been so good that she approached the Queen for funds to expand the building, and renovations were completed in 192.

Cezara has no complaints about how the young Queen is ruling.  She shares the pride that the rest of the village has in their Queen, having watched her grow from a rambunctious child into the ruler they have today.  She has absolute faith the Court, they’ve done right by the village thus far.  Still, she’s worried about how the village could change now that it’s the seat of the Iasi District.

    Character in Play:
Early morning found Cezara making the rounds at the Inn.  Sure, she’d been running the place long enough to have a dedicated opening staff, but she still liked to be the first one of the staff to arrive.  It gave her a chance to get breakfast going and get one (or two ) cups of coffee in her before the silence was broken by early risers.  Mug in hand, she did a quick check of the grounds, making sure the stabled animals were doing ok and didn’t need anything that wouldn’t keep until the stable hand got in.

Satisfied that nothing was out of the ordinary, she made her way back to the kitchen, to get a second cup of coffee, and to get a bit of breakfast on for the morning staff.  She liked to get some food in them before their shifts began if possible, seemed like the day just started better that way.  Besides, it was just as easy to double whatever she was cooking for the guests that morning.  Wasn’t anything fancy, but it was hearty and filling, and most importantly, tasty.

She was rolling out the second pan of biscuits to slide into the oven when the morning staff began to trickle in.  ” Mornin’ lass, mind pulling that pan out of the oven? They smell about done” she said by way of greeting, flashing the girl a quick smile before turning her attention back to cutting out the biscuits, and putting them on the waiting pan.
