Appearance

Play By: Josh Segarra
Distinguishing Features:

Bright blue eyes that become alight with mirth when he laughs or shadowed with sorrow when upset. Short cropped brown hair and beard, strong jaw. Tall and solidly built, Dragos engages in regular strenuous physical exercise. He allows people to believe it’s constant bouts of sports and sex.

It’s safer for everyone that way.

Personality

Personality:

In public, Dragos Cutrov is a perfect gentleman with a bright smile and a handshake for everyone he meets. He seems a bit dim, mentally, and he’s known for his love of good drink, good food, and beautiful women. Rumors abound that Prince Cutrov’s sex drive far outstrips his jewel of rank, and that he’s nearly on par with a Warlord Prince in terms of carnal hungers. Dragos, for his part, never confirms such speculation. He also never denies it. He’s always ready for a night (and maybe a day) on the town in Bidea, or at in his home Province of Tulzbrujah.

There are several times when he manages to stop partying and womanizing long enough to put on a suit and attend to his family’s estate, most importantly the Cutrov winery. It’s the only bit of his family’s heritage that Dragos seems to enjoy. He enjoys his wealth and makes no secret that he’s proud to be an aristo, a true aristo, in a land where aristos are meant to rule over the people beneath them. When the lights go up, expect Dragos Cutrov to flaunt his wealth and status and enjoy himself to the fullest of his ability.

Then the lights go down and he is free.

Free to remove the mask of indolent playboy and buffoon. Free to do the duty given to him by both Mother Night and the Myos guild to return to her the people whose time in the world has ended. Free to put on his true face and bring ruin to the aristos who take so much and leave so little for everyone else. If he didn’t need Dragos Cutrov’s connections, his money, or his face, the Myos assassin known as Striker wouldn’t bother with the charade at all. Sadly, he must spend part of his life pretending to be less than he is so he doesn't scare the sheep.

Such is the way of a wolf.

When on a mission for the Myos, Striker is callous and brutal. He wades into combat, seeking out his target. Those who get between him and his goal are swiftly targeted, crippled or killed outright, and left in agony on the ground while he heads for his prey. Striker targets any physical weaknesses that his quarry possesses, attacks them relentlessly, and ends his target quickly. Rarely does he feel the need to hear his targets plead for mercy; even when they do, he has no intention of offering it. Mercy is not a clause in his contracts.

Once the target is dead, he departs the scene and immediately goes to meditate on what he’s just done. The thrill of the kill often still needs purging, however, so he may find himself between the thighs of some pretty little aristo woman or a dancer not long after.

Likes:

  • 1. Dancing: Dragos is an excellent dancer, trained in several classical styles since his youth. He was told long ago that the way a man dances informs on the way he makes love. Dragos vowed long ago that no one would ever, ever consider him an incompetent dancer...or lover.

  • 2. Duplicity: Dragos loves playing the buffoon and having others fall for the joke. His fellow aristos discount him, call him a fool behind his back, and write him off as useless. His fellow Myos think he’s little more than a blunt weapon, a ravening beast called in only to make as large a mess as possible to make a statement.

He loves watching them attempt to fit him into their safe little boxes to make themselves feel better.

  • 3. The Myos Guild: Holding the power to end a life is a heady thing. Dragos is a callous and brutal killer, and he enjoys his work as a member of the Myos Guild, but he’s not cruel about it. But it is a fact of life that some people must die in order for others to live. This lesson is driven home each time that he ends a life and he’s grown comfortable with the role that he plays in making certain that the other factions of Dena Nehele are kept in check through fear. He knows that, someday, he will become the person that needs to die in order for balance to be achieved, but he doesn’t fear that day. He’s determined to support the guild and its members to the best of his ability now. The time and place of his demise will arrange itself.

    Dislikes:
  • 1. Alcohol: His family’s legacy is booze making, but Dragos personally hates alcohol. He never drinks anything stronger than the run-of-the-mill booze they sell at discount to the non-aristos. The craft-made liquor his family winery is famous for has never passed his lips, though he’s listened to enough descriptions to fake it when necessary.

  • 2. Performing Artists: Something about dancers and singers rubs Dragos the wrong way. He spends a lot of time with them and can fake smiling at them and praising them for their (minuscule) talent. Most of them are so far up their own asses about which school they went to or who's starring in which production that discussions are predictable long before they start. Few of them can carry on a conversation that doesn’t immediately lead back to talking about themselves.

  • 3. The Jacks Guild: The only thing that Dragos despises about the guilds is that these bastards are members. A group of Jacks were responsible for the murders of his parents, when he was eight years old. They stole a number of recipes from the winery and, when Andrei and Linna tried to stop them, they were permanently silenced. The ones responsible for his family’s death have died, but there is one more of their number who must pay.

    And they will.

    Fears:

  • 1. Failing to Avenge His Family: Dragos swore that he’d kill all of the people trained by the man responsible for killing his family. He’s found great success in his task, but there is one more member of that cell still walking the world. Dragos has had some close calls with death in the past, but he cannot die until this person is returned to the Darkness along with their compatriots. To do so would be a violation of his word to his family, and Dragos keeps his word.

  • 2. Bonding to a Queen: Dragos is a Myos man and they are all of the family and friend he has ever needed. Even his remaining living relations don’t inspire the loyalty in him that the Myos Guild does. Bonding to a Queen would insert an artificial, unearned loyalty into his life that would challenge or even sunder his bond to his fellow Myos. To that end, Dragos does not take contracts on Court members. The possibility of encountering a Queen rankles him, and he tries to avoid it when he can.

  • 3. Permanent Injury: Even in a world with capable Healers, the threat of permanent, crippling injury is a possibility for men and women who kill for money. Dragos does his best to minimize the damage he takes while on a contract, but anyone can get lucky (or unlucky) on any given day. Dragos doesn’t want to be taken out of the field or, worse, be informed that his services are no longer required by the guild.

Death in combat is preferable to the slow torture of living life unable to do what one loves.

    Craft Strengths:

  • 1. Masking Psychic Scent: Rather than simply bind his scent, Striker often chooses to carry no scent at all, masking his caste and jewel strength from sensing by any strength lighter than the Red. Dark Jeweled individuals require more effort to discern his scent, but it is possible.

  • 2. Exploiting Weakness: Dragos's connection to the Darkness grants him an inherent understanding of the connection between body and mind, and where that connection has frayed or broken down. An individual's physical weaknesses appear to him like a roadmap of their life; Dragos senses injuries and weakened limbs with terrifying ease. This information helps him land crippling blows on those who stand between himself and his targets, or outright kill his targets as quickly as possible to avoid a cruel and prolonged slaying.

    Craft Weaknesses:

  • 1.Battlefield & Triage Healing:  He’s spent most of his life learning how to disable and kill others, leading to a deficiency in his ability to heal himself with his own Craft. While he can stop blood-flow or hold a damaged limb in place, Dragos needs a healer to actually begin the process of recovery. Otherwise, he courts permanent damage or death from untreated injury.

  • 2. Sight Shields: Dragos can hide his scent amd even the depth of his jewels, but his ability to remain unseen is wanting. His sight shields render him more of a ghostly, translucent figure than truly invisible.

    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Linna Cutrov- Purple Dusk to Green Witch d. 169 AP
Father: Andrei Cutrov - Opal  to Sapphire Warlord d. 169 AP

Aunt: Viorica Dionescu -  Broken Opal to Broken Green Black Widow (Myos Guildswoman, Ravager)

Family Butler: Ivan Tanase - Tiger Eye to Summer Sky Warlord b. 138 AP

Tulzbruja Leadership Society Mentee: Nazariu Cebanu - Rose to Purple Dusk Prince  b. 165 AP

    History:

Dragos Cutrov’s life was on track to remain the simple, fortunate life of an aristo from birth until death. Andrei Cutrov came from four generations of winemakers in Tulzbruja, while Linna Dionescu came from a family of accountants. Their arranged marriage ruined both of their respective relationships, but Andrei and Linna wanted to do what was right by their families. They married and produced Dragos within a year to much fanfare from their families. Dragos was close to his parents, learning to count from his mother and the secrets of wine-making from his father. When Dragos worried that he wouldn’t receive a Jewel at his Birthright ceremony, Andrei reassured his son that they’d love him no matter what.

When Dragos returned clutching his Opal Jewel, he felt even closer to his father than before.

The death of his parents just a few weeks after his Birthright ceremony disrupted that happy life.

Dragos remembers the funeral but getting through those first days after his parents died is still a blur. Simion, the family’s butler, helped a great deal. Further credit also goes to his aunt, Lady Viorica Dionescu, a member of the Second Circle in Tulzbruja who arrived to sort out the family estate and take care of her young nephew. Viorica's husband passed on a decade earlier and the presence of family helped both of them. She and Dragos bonded over stories of his parents, favorite books, and arranging for Dragos to join her at Court where he first learned of Lady Rilandra Vlas. He spent his time learning Protocol, the role of Princes within a Court, and delivering messages on his aunt's behalf. Most of his days ended in deep mental and physical fatigue, but Viorica rarely allowed him rest. She often quizzed him on what he learned during the day and week, forcing him to sharpen his observational skills and memory.

He served as Viorica's escort to a number of private parties and locations as he grew older. Dragos became more physically fit, more emotionally strong, and more cognizant of the world around him. He learned to keep his desires in check and mask them with the public facade that people wanted to see. No one cared about dead parents or lost innocence; their peers among the aristos only cared about Dragos's influence and what he could give to them in connection with his family's legacy. When Dragos turned twenty, Viorica explained the truth behind his parents’ deaths: a rival family hired the Jacks Guild to steal several of the family's formulas. When Andrei and Linna happened them upon them, they were silenced to prevent a report to the District Queen.

Dragos demanded justice. Viorica referred him to the Myos guildswoman known as Ravager, who began his training.

Five years passed while Dragos apprentice to Ravager at night and worked for Viorica during the day, never suspecting that they were the same woman. He earned the Red at his Offering, taking the blood-colored jewel as a sign that he was on the right path. His first contract from the guild was the patriarch of the family that arranged for the murder of his parents. The kill was successful and he took down the man's wife and three children shortly after and recovered the stolen formulas.

Then he turned his attention to the thieves themselves.

Three more years passed as Striker hunted down each of the people responsible for the theft. When their mentor attempted to bring him down, Striker ended him as well in a vicious combat that left a lasting scar beneath his ribs. Believing he'd destroyed the entire cell, Striker was ready to call an end to his crusade.

Six months ago, he learned that the Old Jack had one final student. Unwilling to wait for someone seeking revenge, Dragos has quietly started to hunt this individual. It's been a slow process and Dragos has allowed himself to develop a reputation as a careless womanizer and functioning alcoholic, ruining several promising romantic relationships. Dragos hates the pretense, but the ruse has its advantages. Viorica's recommendation recently secured him an appointment to the First Circle of Lady Vlas’s court in Bidea, where she's suggested that he help the new Territory Queen find common ground with the Aristos she despises. Dragos accepted the task because Ravager has advised them that those same aristos are attempting to subvert the Guild Master's decree that Rilandra Vlas cannot be targeted for death by the Guilds.

He's stopped several plots to assassinate the Queen in their infancy, allowing him to hone his skills while he pursues his alternate agenda.

The work is fulfilling, but slow. Meanwhile, he searches for clues regarding his final target. Dragos believes that this person's death is the only thing keeping him from closing out that chapter of his life.

    Show Us What You've Got

    Character in Play:

Dragos Cutrov watched Lord Cosmin Ciumak ascend the stairs with his sons, Alexandru and Gheorghe, to discuss the court business of Caecian District. The pretty woman hanging on his arm nattered on about something or other, and Dragos feigned interest in her words while using part of his attention to keep a psionic bead on the trio as they ascended the stairs to the private study. They’d arrive there in less two minutes, at the speed that Lord Cosmin walked these days.

    Dragos had little time.

He excused himself, holding up his champagne glass by way of explanation. Everyone in the room had knew that Prince Cutrov had not only arrived first to the home of his family friend, but that he’d also been the first to partake of every single cask of wine or champagne that Lord Cosmin’s people had put on display. The party started at 6:30pm; his speech was slurred by 6:55.

By 7:20pm, Prince Cutrov had taken up permanent residence near the east wall near the wine casks.

Dragos not-quite-stumbled in the direction of the bathroom and stepped inside, cutting in front of another Prince with an apologetic smile. Dragos locked the privy door and immediately stood up straight, letting the drunken facade fall away like autumn leaves. He focused briefly and dispelled his psychic scent, making sure that it wouldn’t appear anywhere in the manor other than the banquet room and this bathroom, where he now stood.

They were heading into the office now.

Dragos reached for his Opal and walked through the bathroom wall. He exited from a bedroom down the hall and continued toward the study. He released the craft letting him move through objects and focused on shielding himself from sight. His skill here was lacking somewhat, but it would serve for the purpose at hand. He reached into his psychic cabinet and drew forth the long, flute-like instrument within and three darts, plus a small stone from the garden.

He lined up ten feet from the door, raised the small instrument and tossed the rock at the door.

Half a second later, Gheorghe Ciumak opened the door. Dragos cursed inwardly; he’d wanted Alexandru, the Warlord Prince to answer the door. Gheorghe looked into the hall and saw no one immediately.

    He blinked.

Dragos pulled upon his Red and focused upon the Warlord’s eyelids, holding them down. A quick breath, a release, and a dart bit into Gheorghe’s neck. The sleeping poison was delivered just as Gheorghe started to speak.

Instead, the man dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes.

Alexandru came to see about his brother, raising his personal shield. He was half a second too slow, though. Dragos blew out the second dart as soon as he saw the Warlord Prince and hit him just below the ear. The Warlord Prince shot to his feet, looking toward the open door.

    Father, there’s someone…

Alexandru dropped to the floor like a stone, a few feet from his brother. Dragos was already on the move, stepping through the door and closing it behind him. Lord Cosmin put up as much of a fight as he could, but Dragos Cutrov had been training for years for a night like this. He’d spent the last thirty days finding reasons to come and visit Lord Cosmin, asking the older man about his parents and the things they all enjoyed doing together. Dragos didn’t hate him, but he had no love for, or connection to, Caecian Warlord.

Killing him was merely another paycheck.

Once the old man breathed his last, Dragos knelt down, took back the darts from the brothers, and retraced his route back to the bathroom. He opened the door to find the same Prince he’d cut off earlier staring daggers at him, his rage palpable even when Dragos smiled and offered another apology. He returned downstairs and found the young aristo woman hanging on the arm of some Lord. Dragos took a champagne glass from a passing servant and chalked it up to the price of doing business.

Lord Cosmin’s body was found later. There was no mention that either of his sons had been in the room at the time of his demise. Lord Cosmin had been seeing a Healer for some time to address his leg injury and breathing issues. Dragos made all of the polite noises when he saw Alexandru and Gheorghe at the funeral, telling both men that they could call him if they needed anything. They’d never contact him again.

One of them, however, would be contacting the Myos Guild again to remove their last remaining family member in the near future. If any of the mourners knew about it, they wouldn’t even be angry. They’d probably congratulate the brothers on their cunning.

Somehow, that angered Dragos more than knowing what he’d been hired for in the first place.
