Personality

Personality:
Tempest, like her sister Willow, is aptly named. Most people expect Tempest to have quite the flash temper but she doesn't. Rather, like her namesake, her temper is long in building but violent when unleashed. She is the coming storm, not the quick strike of lightning. She’ll offer second chances to the repentant but cross her too many times and there is no forgiveness, unless your name is Willow. Tempest is proud, patriotic, heroic but with a healthy dose of caution and calculation. She abhors losing. She won't take on a challenge she can't win. Her commanding officers will call her dependable -- mostly because Tempest assumes that everyone should strive to be a model Dea al Mon citizen. She is angered by laziness and injustice. Everything in Tempest’s quarters has a place and should not be budged from that place since she believes that order and balance are purity.

Tempest attributes her solid sense of responsibility to the fact that she had to watch over her rambunctious little sister for so many years. If Willow got hurt, it was Tempest's fault as well. Receiving the praise of her elders became something she sought, since, as the good child, she knew she at least was deserving of that. Tempest has never had a problem with teamwork or authority, but she has struggled with romance and personal relationships, mostly because Tempest avoids forming deep attachments out of fear of losing the other person. Small talk usually irritates her, since she sees it as a waste of time. Being a Priestess, she relates her connection to the land to be akin to the seemingly destructive aspects of Nature -- the forest fires that release the hard shelled seeds, the river floodings that remove detriment, etc. -- and she sees herself as something of a guardian of that dark side because without it, everything would die too soon.

Likes:
  • 1 - Horseback riding. Despite being a Priestess of the forest, Tempest enjoys being astride a horse equally as much, whether it be for traveling or for pleasure. She has an appreciation for all breeds and if someone strikes up a conversation about horses, she will gladly jump in.
  • 2 - Swimming. Tempest finds this to be almost as relaxing as meditation. She connects with the land best in this manner, though it usually doesn't help her with fighting or tracking. Tempest considers herself a water child so she will rarely pass up a bath or a swim.
  • 3 - Fighting practice. The sweat, the dance of death, the racing heart, the pumping blood -- Tempest loves fighting. Well, practicing it anyway. No one gets really hurt then so she enjoys herself. Real righting she handles seriously and there is no enjoyment in it.
Dislikes:
  • 1 - Parties. Tempest doesn't mind dressing up but please, no parties. The loud music, the constant chatter, the boring small talk. She'd rather be out in the woods or in a more quiet place.
  • 2 - Caves. Caves are kind of gross to her. They're usually damp, filled with creepy crawlies, and very hard to navigate.
  • 3 - Bugs. Speaking of creepy crawlies. Tempest will gladly face down opponents half again her size but if she finds a bug in her bed, the whole house will know of it.
Fears:
  • 1 - Losing Willow. Sometimes Tempest angrily wishes that she didn't have to watch out for Willow so much but honestly, if her sister ever died, she'd be at a loss of what to do. Tempest likens her and Willow to two trees growing around each other and if one dies, then the other will have nothing to embrace any longer.
  • 2 - Loss of control. Tempest can handle most situations that may spiral out of her control but what strikes fear into her heart is the loss of control that comes with physical restraint. Captured or immobilized, Tempest will go into a near panic to escape.
  • 3 - The Brood. Willow may fear the Brood because of their rituals, Tempest fears them taking over all of Dea al Mon. This drives her reason to fight even more.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 - Item enhancement spells. Tempest is very good at enhancing her weapons, especially her two favorite daggers, Ash and Thorn. This is a daily ritual for her, akin to a morning cup of coffee, that helps her focus her mind on the day. For a bit of whimsy, she limns the blades in a soft white aura when the spell is active.
  • 2 - Communion Craft. Before every patrol, Tempest can be found meditating in the same garden, taking strength from the land. When out in the forest, Tempest will say that the land speaks to her, reveals where she is needed, though it is more of an untested instinct than a true Craft spell. She believes that her meditation rituals give her an edge in hunting down transgressors because the land sees her as its protector.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 - Seduction Craft. Who the hell needs to use that sort of crap? If you can't get laid, you shouldn't have to force it. She’s gone so far as to throw a book about these sorts of spells into a fire during a fight with Willow over how “frigid” she is.
  • 2 - Show Craft. Tempest has no time for showmanship or illusions and doesn't think that anyone should be using Craft for this either. Because of her dislike of this Craft, she doesn’t associate with people who use it, thinking them weak or false.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Aspen Elessar, Tiger Eye to Purple Dusk witch, aged 63
Father: Adze Elessar, Rose to Summer Sky Warlord, aged 78
Siblings: sister Willow, Summer Sky to Opal Black Widow, aged 38; brother Javelin, Tiger Eye to Summer Sky Prince, aged 25; sister Amethyst, Birthright Rose with, aged 17

History:
Tempest was always the more responsible of the two eldest sisters in their family. She was born first but her sister Willow was born so closely afterwards that it was almost like having a twin. And as the two girls grew older, they became more like that, and more unlike each other. Tempest was an apt student, determined to be in the top of her class. She rarely got in trouble because her sister seemed to get in enough of it on her own, so why should Tempest also be the problem child?

Being gifted with a Birthright Purple Dusk pretty much cemented Tempest's role as protector for her sister. And while Tempest may now recall her childhood with some resentment over having to keep her sister in check, she also recalls some grand adventures that two little girls probably shouldn't have gone on so young, like the time they fell into that cavern with the deep water and nearly remained there, or the time they tried to climb the biggest tree in the forest and Tempest’s quick thinking stopped her from breaking her leg when she slipped off a branch. What she learned from those adventures hurtled her willingly into military service, because Tempest knew there were dangerous things in the forest (and outside of it) and she refused to be unprepared. When she acquired her Sapphire, she signed up immediately for military training.

Being a Priestess, becoming a Holy Matron did not come with any doubts from Tempest. She wanted to fight, to defend. She had been protecting her sister from danger for so long that it felt natural to her to protect and defend other people as well. The Brood was out there -- a foe she could fight, as opposed to the Waste, which she could not fight. As before, she excelled in her studies, becoming one of the top melee fighters of her class.

Reaching the rank of Master Shieldwoman was both a personal triumph for her and a very unique moment with her sister. For once, Willow actually seemed to think beyond her selfish wild nature and gifted Tempest with two ornate daggers, that Tempest named Ash and Thorn. She began to carry those with her at all times, regardless of duty, in addition to her other fighter gear. In direct contrast to Willow’s wanton nature, Tempest became almost frigid, proudly stating that she had no time for romantic pursuits while Dea al Mon was in danger, but secretly afraid to form deep attachments because she was unsure of how to deal with the emotions that came with them. The few lovers she had ended on either sour terms or with unspoken regrets, until Tempest began to shy away from romance entirely.

Character in Play:
"Willow, wait!" Tempest yelled. Her younger sister didn't listen. Her white blonde hair was like a banner that Tempest was desperately trying to reach as they crashed through the forest. How did Willow run without caution? Tempest had counted at least three logs could have possibly held venomous creatures and two holes that could have caused serious harm to a bone. Willow had just leaped over them like they were nothing!

Luckily for Tempest, she knew where Willow was going. Some people really thought that Willow went wherever the wind blew her but Tempest knew better. Willow was attracted to certain spots in the forest: the streams, the biggest trees, the animals. All Tempest had to do was remember where those things were (or most likely to be found) and she could almost always find Willow there if she lost sight of her.

She took a moment to catch her breath while she listened to Willow crashing through the forest towards the big bend in the stream where the water ran deep. But only a moment. And then, extending her growing Priestess senses into the greenery around her, Tempest ran, drawing on a connection to the land that Willow would never have to catch up.

She stood on the ridge overlooking the water, listening to Willow laugh gleefully at her little stunt. "I told you to wait," Tempest said petulantly. "You almost fell into that hole back there. You could have broken your ankle. Again." Didn't Willow remember how bad that had been? Tempest had only been able to carry her sister halfway before she had to stop. Their parents had been furious! Well, not with Willow so much as they had been with Tempest, who was supposed to watch out for Willow. How could Tempest have let Willow get hurt?

"Come swim!" Willow called to her, interrupting her dark thoughts. Where Willow had dove into the water headfirst, abandoning caution, Tempest picked her careful way down the slope, shedding her clothes on the small embankment before joining her sister in the cool water. She imagined it carrying away her concerns but she could never manage the carefree attitude Willow so naturally possessed.

"You know we can't stay out here long. We have to be back before dinner," Tempest said. Willow, as though she wasn't listening (and she pretty much wasn't), tilted her head and body back so that she floated on the water. With her ears underwater, she didn't hear Tempest sigh. Would Willow ever grow up? Or was Tempest going to be spending the rest of her life watching over her sister, saving her from trouble?

Since Willow was staring at the sky, enraptured, Tempest also looked up, but after a moment, her gaze shifted to the forest around them. She could almost hear it whispering, calling. But if she tried to focus on it, it faded from her senses.

Tempest sighed in discouragement. Maybe she just wasn't good enough yet. She was going to have to get better. There were dangerous things out there, things that could hurt adults badly. Little girls posed no challenge to those big bad things. Tempest resolved to just study harder so that she could defend herself from those terrible things.

She looked over at her sister, still staring obliviously at the sky. But what about Willow?

Need to put her Jewels in the roller for cut/uncut status. I used a family roll from Willow Elessar (PD to Sapphire) for Tempest

Per the use of one of Willow's family rolls...

You've risen from the Darkness twice blessed with a cut Purple Dusk birthright Jewel, and were gifted with an uncut Sapphire Jewel at your offering.
