    The Basics
    Character Name: Melody Tioriand
Nicknames: Kitten. But only her papa can call her that. (She’s been informed that she will always be his baby girl and he can call her whatever he wants to.)
Age & Birth Year: 26 (born 168 AP)
    Race: Medium-Lived (Dea al Mon)
    Caste: Witch
    Birth Territory: Dea al Mon
    Home Territory: Dea al Mon

    Birthright Jewel: Cut Summer Sky
    Offering Jewel: Uncut Blood Opal

    Role: Pseudo First Circle
    Faction: Virtuosa's Brood-Fighting Gang

    Appearance

Play By: Katherine McNamara (With Permission from Dash)
    Distinguishing Features:
Melody has red hair. It would look natural if red hair could be natural for the Dea al Mon. Melody dyes her hair to cover up her natural silvery-white coloring.

    Personality

    Personality:

Melody’s (secret) love affair of the book genre has turned her into a romantic. Though there is nothing hopeless about her. She believes, absolutely, in Happily Ever Afters. She also believes, absolutely, that hard work, perseverance, and personal sacrifice are needed to achieve a Happily Ever After.

Growing up in a household with a loving (and overprotective) father and three overprotective (and pestering) older brothers has honed a spine of steel in Melody. She will stand her ground to defend her beliefs but is not unwilling to listen to differing opinions. It also provided her an environment in which she knew she was treasured and safe - giving her the safety net needed to grow into her skin and become a healthy, vibrant, self-confident witch.

Her word is her bond. Promises are never given lightly and always with the intention of keeping them. Confidences and secrets shared with her are locked in a vault and not shared without explicit permission (barring the keeping of the secret leading to or causing actual danger or harm.) Anything that Melody sees or overhears is fair game for gossip though - it’s not her responsibility to keep secrets for people who can’t keep them for themselves.

Unfortunately the unequal power dynamics in her parents’ marriage has also affected Melody. She’s grown up watching her papa love her mother absolutely and her mother just not seeing her papa. Melody witnesses the small heart wounds caused by benign neglect. It’s created a shyness in Melody - a need to protect her vulnerable heart from going through the same painful cycle as her father.

    Likes:
    • 1. Books. The Dea al Mon prefer telling stories to reading stories. And while Melody certainly enjoys listening to stories, she developed a love of books and reading early. Her mother tended to drag her around Court so that some “polish” would rub off on her and Melody was always so freaking bored. Until a super wonderful person secreted her the gift of a book. Ever since Melody has loved getting lost in the pages of a book as it allowed her to escape from the boringness of adults adulting.
    • 2. Knives and Bows. During her time in the Red Cloaks, Melody learned how to care for and use a multitude of weapons. She found a special love and aptitude for archery and fighting with knives which, in turn, led to a love of the weapons themselves.
    • 3. Animals. It’s probably not a surprise that a young girl living in the middle of a forest develops a love of animals. Despite not possessing the healing Caste, Melody seems to have a knack for finding any small injured woodland creature and bringing them home for rest and rehabilitation. Few things can get Melody as giddy as being in a pile of puppies, petting cats or bunnies, or feeding fawns fruit.

    Dislikes:
    • 1. Rabbit. Not the cute, cuddly, soft bunnies that hop through the forest. Those she adores. She doesn’t like cooked rabbit. There’s something horrifying about roasting or stewing such adorable creatures and eating them. Not that she’s a vegetarian or anything silly like that. She just won’t eat that rabbit stew, kay? Thanks.
    • 2. Males Fussing/Chaperones. Melody is an adult (usually.) She’s a trained Red Cloak. She knows exactly what to do with a knife. She carries a Dark Jewel, the lightest of all Dark Jewels, but it’s still a Dark Jewel. It’s an annoyance to have a male decide that she needs an escort if she steps outside. Or have a male put a plate of food in front of her and demand she eat because she looks too skinny.
    • 3. Super Early Mornings. Melody is of the firm opinion that anyone who enjoys waking up before the sun rises is actually insane and is probably a frequent visitor of the Twisted Kingdom. People who enjoy getting up with the sun or just after it are also crazy, but not as crazy. Melody delights in long lazy mornings in bed and being able to snuggle into her blankets until she absolutely has to get up.

    Fears:
    • 1. Lyric. Her oldest brother helped to raise her. He taught her how to climb trees and gave her her first knife. He kissed her booboos and taught her how to swim. Then he acquired the Waste, and he was no longer her brother. She spent months living in the same house as a ghost, a phantom, someone, something Lyric-shaped. Melody tried to interfere when he was sneaking out to join the Brood and he attacked her.
    • 2. Contracting the Waste. All Dea al Mon have some level of fear of becoming infected with the Waste. And while none of the symptoms of the Waste are particularly attractive to Melody, she’s simply more terrified of the idea that she’ll turn on the people she loves the way her brother did.
    • 3. Loving the Wrong Person. Melody’s papa was very big on telling her bedtime stories. They were always full of action and adventure, humor and intrigue, and always, somehow, romance. A forever sort of love. As she grew older the stories changed a little and the characters had to be careful that they weren’t deceived. Melody came to realize that the marriage between her parents wasn’t as perfect as it seemed. Her papa was in love with his wife, but her mother put her ambitions before her husband. A dynamic that means her papa is always hurting and always hoping his wife will notice. Melody does not want the same for herself.

    Craft Strengths:
    • 1. Shields. After Lyric attacked her and she healed, Melody became obsessive over her ability to create shields. She’s experimented with layering shields, with bubble shields, with shields that lay close to her skin. It’s become almost second nature to shield herself and has learned to create strong shields that use less of her jewel strength so she can hold them longer.
    • 2. Weapon Imbuing. While fighting Melody will imbue her knives with craft to make them stronger, sharper, more lethal. She’ll imbue her arrows to fly farther, faster, and with more wind resistance so they have more impact. She adapted the craft ability to reinforce objects to seamlessly interact with her own physical combat abilities.

    Craft Weaknesses:
    • 1. Masking Psychic Scent. Playing hide and seek with Virtuosa would have been infinitely easier if she had been able to mute her psychic scent. Unfortunately Melody has never been able to develop the knack for either masking, muting, or adjusting her psychic scent. She’s stuck smelling like a witch.
    • 2. Power Bolts. Perhaps a side effect of her skill in channeling her Jeweled strength through items (imbuing), Melody is completely unable to manifest uncontained bolts of that same power. If she attempts to cast her strength in its raw form the power will simply fizzle. Her Jeweled strength must be cast with a purpose (shielding, telekinesis, warming/cooling, etc.) besides outright destruction or it simply won’t work.

    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Patience Tioriand;; 96 (born 98 AP);; Summer Sky - Purple Dusk Healer
Father: Stag Tioriand;; 98 (born 96 AP);; Tiger Eye - Rose Warlord
Brother: Lyric Tioriand;; 43 (born 151 AP);; Blood Opal - Red Warlord Prince
Brother: Verse Tioriand;; 38 (born 156 AP);; White - Yellow Prince
Brother: Paradigm Tioriand;; 36 (born 158 AP);; Rose - Opal Warlord

    History:

Stag and Patience grew up in similar aristo circles. For years the two had somehow managed to just miss meeting each other at dinners, at concerts, at parties. They knew the same people - socialized within the same circles - but never at the same time. Until, as if by fate, they arrived at a dinner party at the same time. Stag was dumbstruck. Patience wasn’t a Queen capable of forming a bond and holding his leash… But Stag needed. He craved. He had to have her. So he courted her.

Patience was flattered by the immediate attraction, admitted to herself that he was quite handsome. A perfect specimen of the Dea al Mon. A beautiful, lethal creature with a perfect pedigree to match and complement her own. She was grateful that she enjoyed the Warlord, came to care for him - but she would have married him regardless.

As a team they ascended the ranks in Court until Patience found some level of contentment in Majesty Illion’s First Circle. Not that Patience was content being the personal Healer to a Province Queen, she simply found a Queen she wanted to serve and see sit on the Territory throne when Gale Galoneth stepped down. Settled, as much as possible for the Healer, Patience began breeding children. First Lyric, then Verse, Paradigm, and lastly Melody.

Melody grew up feeling surrounded with love and overprotective (in her opinion) males. She had good tutors for academics and Craft. Was given boundaries and (perceived) freedom to explore. And she was dragged around Majesty’s Court to learn - to stay quiet and watch. Quietus gave her a book during one particularly boring day which stoked her love of books. The hobby then sparked the bond and friendship between herself and Virtuosa.

Her life, even with the boring Court stuff and the cat fights with her mother, was good and rather idyllic. Until Lyric contracted the Waste. She was fourteen and just starting her transition away from being a little girl and into a young lady. She was dealing with the relatively new horror of moontimes, her body changing on what felt like a daily basis.. And her family going into crisis mode.

The Lyric that wasn’t Lyric brought the idea of the Waste and Brood into Melody’s life. She had been aware of it but it hadn’t concerned her. It felt like a problem from a far away land and now it was in her home. And when she was fifteen he left to join the Brood of the True Born - hurting her in his escape.

After she recovered, Melody increased the intensity of her martial training. She put all of her focus and intensity into becoming faster, stronger, deadlier.

The worst fight she ever had with her mother was over the Red Cloaks. Patience wanted to send a hefty “donation” to the group and in exchange Melody would join a Court. Melody refused. She joined the Red Cloaks and volunteered for every group heading out to hunt the Brood. She had been ready to stay with the Red Cloaks until she heard that Virtuosa was forming a Court. Not a dinner and dance party political Court; a fighting, killing Court.

    Character in Play:

    Lyric was changing. Again.

No one else seemed to notice. Everyone noticed the first change - even mother. He stopped singing. He stopped laughing. One day he had climbed up her reading tree to tease her book away from her so he could tell her a story and the next day he couldn’t drum up the energy to finish the silly story papa always told. Like he always did.

It was like the life was sucked out of him, and Melody begged her mother to make him a healing brew. "There’s no healing brew for the Waste." That’s what her mother said with a sheen of tears in her eyes.

No healing brew for the Waste.

    The Waste.

The sound of it had reverberated in her fourteen year-old head for days and days and days.

    Lyric had the Waste.

It sounded so farfetched. Her laughing, protective, annoying, loving brother had the Waste. And there was nothing she could do. Nothing papa could do. Nothing mother could do. Lyric had the Waste. Lyric had the Waste. Lyric had the Waste. It was an evil mantra in her head and there was nothing, absolutely nothing, anyone could do.

And then Lyric got moody. He was bored. Sad. Depressed.

    … Broody…

She read him stories: histories, intrigues, the kind of adventures that Virtuosa loved, even a romance she blushed through the telling. She brought home music crystals, and flowers. A pretty fish in a bowl. The softest, sweetest black bunny she ever touched.

And none of it reached her beloved brother.

She was fifteen now. And the sad, scared tears she cried alone at night dried up. She watched her brother - kept tabs on him. And she was the first one to notice the changes. Melody begged, pleaded, and pestered him to eat, to care, to live. He was getting angry - physically aggressive - at the slightest provocation (if there even was a provocation.) His eyes were getting bigger, she’d swear it to mother night.

So it was only natural that when she heard him moving about in the middle of the night that she would follow him. Melody pulled on a thin robe over her favorite nightgown. It was too embarrassing the way her budding breasts pressed and stretched against the soft fabric to not cover up at least a little. She padded across her room and poked her head out of her door. It was Lyric heading down the stairs. Her heart pounded in her chest and confusion furrowed her brow as she followed him down. Just where did Lyric think he was going?

"Lyric?" She called out softly. "It’s really late, you should be sleeping." Hell, she should be sleeping. Not following her poor ghost of a brother around.

He snarled at her. "Go back to bed."

It was snapped at her, and felt like a slap. Melody flinched. Her brother never, ever took that tone with her. She cautiously padded closer to him. "Lyric, where are you going?" She shook her head. "Let’s just go back to bed. We can go wherever you want in the morning."

"Shut up! Shut up, shut up, shut up!" He shoved her. A Warlord Prince in his prime, one that carried the Red, shoved her, an adolescent witch, hard enough to knock her against the wall.  Melody cried out as her head hit the wall and shielded. Too late, much too late. Her Summer Sky shield shimmered and wavered as her vision spun. "Lyric?" She didn’t understand, couldn’t understand.

He crowded into her personal space, grabbing her arms with bruising force. "The Brood of the True Born will save me, will save Dea al Mon." He shook her, having already shattered her meager shield. "You won’t stop me Melody, no one will stop me." Her head hit the wall again and again, a byproduct of his shaking. Not intentional, but painful all the same. The tears she thought were dried up came back full force. And they were bitter.

Witchlight bloomed from above her, the bright light searing and painful. Footsteps were racing down the stairs. Voices. Yelling. She could feel the craft around her, the coldness seeping into the air, into her bones. Cold that had nothing to do with weather.

Her Summer Sky flickered. She must have been using it to block some of her brother’s attacks, must have tried to protect herself. It was almost drained to the breaking point. She closed her eyes and before she slipped into the darkness, before she slid into a deep, dark sleep, she heard her mother. "It’s alright now Melody, mama’s got you." There was a drop of something cold and wet on her cheek. A tear, her mother’s tear.

So, I'm pretty sure I should wait until Dash hasn't touched the roller for a week considering all the PD-Gs that were rolled today...

But since I don't have much patience...

May I have a general random pretty please?
