Escorting The Petals Of Flowers
« on: Sep 28, 19, 09:23:27 PM »
Locale: 194 Late Summer, Black Castle

Give me a boost over heaven's gate...

Prince Flair stood coolly outside of the Black Castle, waiting for his sisters to finish in the Garden. Charisma had desired to go and visit Thorn, so he saw to it that she arrived safely. Unsurprisingly, the Red Jewelled Black Widow had been on her way to the Castle in any case on her way to see Valor. He that suggested that he simply get both women settled and sent up to the Master of the Guard and when Charisma wished to return to their townhouse in the city, it could be Prince Valor that made the arrangements.

It had taken time for Charisma to want to return near to the place where she had been grievously harmed, but he had noticed that with some passage of time she was up for travelling more. Truly, he knew that alteration could be entirely laid at the feet of her Bonded male, Prince Tarn, who was presently occupied as far as Flair knew with his children as one might expect of an attentive father. Flair's own children were on a visit with their uncle; he expected they would be returned to him stuffed full of sugary treats and running on the ceiling, but it was not an unpleasant matter. Flair would deal with the children's discipline the same as he always did - with precision. His cool gaze watched the Black Widow and Queen walk gentle circles as they spoke softly; Flair did not attempt to listen in on their conversation.

He spent his time listening to their surroundings for the purpose of safety. Though the Black Castle was entirely secure, he did so regardless. Finally, Lady Zalishevin approached him with a smile. While he did not return it, he inclined his head. "You are prepared to go inside? I will remain a short while to ensure safety, then continue on toward home." His true bass voice was staid and almost indifferent, he knew, but Thorn did not seem to mind it as she gently patted his shoulder. She didn't have to, not directly being his sibling but he had always been relieved because she had long treated with him as though he was. He could have summoned a smile if Charisma had asked for it, but lately, she did not press him into doing so.

There was only one person that could have pulled a smile from him, and she was not present.

Thorn's pale blonde brows lifted in watching Charisma's brother. He had seemed melancholy the last time she had seen the Major of the Ebon Guard, but this was a new level of stoic presentation. The Red Jewelled Black Widow had a hundred questions, but Charisma shook her head lightly as if to warn her half-sister off.  Truth being, Thorn knew that Flair had not entirely been himself since the death of his wife, and more, after dealing with the Brood up close. However, she had learned enough about men in general from observing her own brothers, not to speak of Valor. Her sister truly hadn't needed to warn her at all. She was well aware that Flair was only present to get them safely to their destination and no more than that. She wished she could help him in some fashion, however. Even if, she knew he would not have accepted the assistance offered. It was nice that Charisma was here, in fact, as she had a ... a conversation she needed to have with Valor that the Black Widow was not looking forward to but also was at the same time. It had been two months since she'd left off with her contraceptive brew to prevent children, and her other preventatives.

Would it be unfair to have another woman present? One that he hadn't so much as looked at in over a year? Perhaps it was a little unfair to allow Charisma as a distraction to appear. She wouldn't know until they were inside.

The tension in Thorn was almost palpable, and really, she hoped that she had decided to bring a guest (of sorts) and with only a little warning. That was of course if Valor had received her note. She honestly couldn't recall if it had gotten there, and so far, the result of not using said preventatives offered little change. It sometimes took a while for one's body to return to its previous state. Thorn had just explained as much as she could to Charisma while they walked, remarking upon the fact that the Queen had not visited Valor in a very long time, truly, not since before the incident. Thorn hoped he would be as pleasantly surprised as she was. It was what they called those days with the Brood. The incident. "You will stay a little while, I hope? It has felt like ages." Thorn frowned a little, unable to help the expression upon her face. However, her sister seemed entirely healthy and whole without the slightest limp or pain. She trembled a little, still somewhat unable to forget how they had almost lost her.

It was Charisma that answered Flair's question rather than Thorn. "Indeed, we can go inside, and I do not imagine you will be kept from your family long, brother." She was attired in all silvers and pale lavender, which offered her eyes an accent of their violet hue. The Queen knew why her brother was out of sorts, but she didn't dare mention a word about it to anyone. It was better, Charisma thought that the business sort itself out and that Flair simply was to forget about what troubled him. While Thorn's hair was pulled back into a single thick braid with a ribbon threaded through it, Charisma's was regal by contrast, but this was hardly a surprise. "I would also like to stay a little while, for certain. But I think it better to allow the Warlord Prince to decide that."

The two living wood combs that she preferred were curled into the lengths of silver hair, while the rest was arranged into a braided bun with some wrapped around her head in a corona. She waited for Flair to take a look at the inside of the doorway to be sure it was to his expectations, safe. Her violet eyes danced with amusement at the need for her brother to ensure this, but she also appreciated his attention to detail. She was sure it had probably kept her safe in a variety of ways that she could not always predict. Biting her lower lip, Charisma's pulse raced as Flair led the way inside the Black Castle, and up to the direction of Valor's office. While the security check for them was brief, there still was one, though perhaps it was brief due to Thorn's presence. The Queen suspected that the Master of the Guard was aware they were arriving by now if he hadn't been earlier. She bit her lower lip. "I hope Prince Valor doesn't mind my presence. My only explanation has been my continued poor health, but I am far improved. Flair can even attest to this fact."

The man in question snorted. "If you mean you are back up to your usual tricks, then yes," Flair remarked in droll fashion before halting before the secretary Valor now kept. The difference was more than notable. Thorn giggled as Charisma prodded her sister in the side with her fingertips to no avail to cease her laughter. For his part, the Major stood sharply at the doorway, waiting for the moment he could dismiss himself from the ladies company. He loved his sisters, but the warm joy between them was something he could not share just then. Work alone had been weighing upon him heavily. She twirled the heavy Red Jewel chip upon her right hand, which now fit properly as it should.

Valor woke early and left his office his late these days. The Brood grew ever bolder in their attacks. He’d been working for a little over a year, since Lady Charisma’s kidnapping and subsequent rescue, to coordinate with Masters of the Guard across Dea al Mon. Valor saw no reason that they could not keep each other informed, working together to drive back the Brood wherever and whenever they struck. Given what had happened in Devinos not long ago, Valor thought this was the best way forward for everyone involved. They could not play defense forever, though. The time would come soon, that the Dea al Mon needed to go on the offense against their enemies.

Valor would lead that strike when the time arrived.

He spent his days collecting and collating information, sending runners on secure winds, and receiving messengers with information from a few places across the Territory. Not all of the other Masters of the Guard had bought into his idea and still believed that they could protect their Districts and Provinces with their own strategies and a smattering of Dark Jewels. Valor hoped they were right. He also hoped that some of the rumors about those Dark Jeweled individuals were true. The Broodmother was a terrible, formidable force that had defeated all placed before her thus far. Valor set down the most recent report and rubbed his face in fatigue and frustration. So much to do, not enough time..

Prince Tanithil. Lady Zalishevin has arrived with a guest.

Cinder, his current secretary, did her job admirably even if she was overly formal for Valor’s personal tastes. He thought of Scribe, briefly, and sighed. He hadn’t seen or heard from her in over a year, though he sometimes got the impression that he was being followed, stalked even, and it pissed him off. She was angry that he’d lied to her about her traitorous brother, but refused to let him explain or help her understand. Said traitor was now one of the very Brood he hunted and needed to kill, but he proved as elusive as his sister.

Valor sighed. The bottle of alcohol was in the bottom drawer of his desk. Surely, he had time for a drink before he spoke to Thorn and whoever she’d brought? Perhaps it was Innocent, come to check on him and make sure that he hadn’t injured himself in killing someone else. Or perhaps she’d brought someone official to speak with him and give him a new focus for his anger. He skipped the drink. He wanted his mind clear for whatever was coming next.

He rose from his chair and headed for the door, opening to find Thorn and Charisma waiting for him.

Thank you, Cinder. I’ll take it from here. No interruptions, save for the Steward, First Escort, or Lady Galoneth herself. All others can wait on my availability.” Valor said, before turning his gaze on two of the most important women in his life.

He stalked toward both women with feline grace and accepted Charisma’s hands to greet her. She did not have a Court of her own yet, something Valor considered a shame. She was more worthy than a number of currently ruling Queens that he could name. “Lady Charisma, I’m honored and glad to see you again. It’s been a long time.” he said. He wanted to say much more than that, but it could wait until they were behind closed doors.

Next, he pressed a kiss onto Thorn’s lips, chaste enough to avoid scandal but somehow filled with heat that could easily ignite and consume them both. He felt it, immediately: something in her mien was off. Valor couldn’t name it right away, but he would know soon enough. He and Thorn had worked hard over the last year to be more open with each other. He never dared to pry into a Black Widow’s secrets, but he’d worked hard to show Thorn that he could bear any secrets she chose to share.

Major Rilindisil, will you be joining us as well?” Valor asked. When the other man indicated that he would not be, Valor thanked him and took over as the escort for both women. He would guide them to his office and bring a second chair to sit beside the first near his desk. The door closed behind both women and Valor fought the urge to look at said desk while both women could see him. Both women knew the feeling of said desk beneath him, at Valor’s hands.

While it wasn’t awkward, per se, he wondered why Thorn had brought her sister to the meeting she’d requested with him days ago.

Can I get either of you something to drink? I wasn’t expecting to see you, Lady Charisma. I know that you’ve been recovering from the Incident. Have you had any further difficulties since that time?” Valor asked.

If Wraith Estalon tried to attack her again, Valor would find him and carve out his heart. For starters.

Not before he found out where Zephyr was, though.

Priorities, after all.

At any other time, Flair might have remained for a drink with the Master of the Guard of all Dea al Mon, but just this particular time he needed to get back to his children. He answered Valor's query with little more than a thin smile and a shake of his head, expression rueful ... but then deigned to speak. As it wasn't often these days that either woman heard the sound of Flair's voice, both startled. The true bass tones were like silk around a sword, and Charisma often tried to cajole her brother into singing for more than the children to very much failed avail.

"Unfortunately, my son and daughter have probably caused their uncle more than only near heart palpitations, so I ought to return and relieve him. Warlord Princes and Queens as children together are particularly precocious." With that very short statement, as a proper Escort, he did indeed completely wait until Valor took both ladies' hands, informed the Lady Cinder of his plans and took care to ensure both women went with him into his office.

However, Flair waited until the door closed before turning to the Lady Cinder. "Thank you for your prompt attention and courtesies," he offered, keen to take her hand and bow over it before departing the same way he'd arrived. He didn't happen to notice that he'd managed to distract Valor's secretary completely from her work. "I expect the Lady Zalishevin and my sister will be safe enough with the Master of the Guard." The outer office door closed quietly in his wake; Charisma waited until she heard the sound of Flair departing before speaking further.

Valor's kiss, though a simple press of lips somehow managed to make her head spin. If Charisma hadn't been holding her hand the Black Widow's knees might well have buckled there in the outer office. She smiled, eyes glittering brightly with pleasure to see him even if she was feeling ... melancholy. She sat down in the office and watched the door close almost with too much interest.

"I hadn't planned to bring Charisma with me," Thorn started to explain and squeezed Charisma's hand, as she hadn't released it. The Queen allowed her Touch to flow through her sister, soothing her which the active Queen's Craft in the room revealed part of the reason she had allowed the pair to appear together. Thorn's expression had tensed until Charisma loosed her Touch. She had clearly needed something Valor could not give her due to the lack of being a Queen (not his fault). "I was in a mood and did not want to take it out on you, my heart. And Charisma was feeling well enough for Prince Flair to Escort her to see you, it seems."

Watching her sister with a curious gaze, she looked back toward Valor. "I didn't want to leave her in the Court Gardens when she'd come all this way, nor make Flair wait to get back to his children. They've begun to understand that their mother ... isn't coming back ... and it has made things hard for her brother." Charisma loosed the Craft again as Thorn's expression tightened willfully, this time, with a much heavier hand. Thorn's expression crumpled.

"I was going to tell you, I swear," she said softly. "When I was sure."

"I'm not pregnant, but you can probably tell that yourself well enough. I thought I was, but ... no. Just late this time. Charisma said she'd help and make sure I didn't fight you about it when ..." the Black Widow grit her teeth and on came the next burst of Queen's Craft, which forced out real tears from Thorn's face. Three, four, then five. "Okay, all right already!"

"It is no one's fault. Not ... yours ..."

Charisma stared her down.

"Or ... mine."

Valor's clasping her hands had felt right as rain. She had missed him, but this meeting was not about her, so the lady only gracefully offered care and concern sheathed in the most patient elegance. "It has been a long time, and I have news but it can wait. What my sister has to say to you is much more important, and she asked my help for doing so." That she didn't have a Court wasn't an abnormal fact in Dea al Mon, as there were simply more people than Courts.

So Charisma contented herself tending anyone and everyone she possibly could with the range of her Sapphire. Even now, Valor's mirrored offering and birthright jewels sang to her when she touched him. She felt sympathy for the pressure her sister had foolishly put herself under, as such things did not happen when one demanded them to, and Thorn hadn't really understood that, Charisma thought, until this moment. She believed it unfair for Valor to pay the price for the woman's prickly mood, and as such had agreed to accompany and be of service.

"I haven't had any difficulties, no. But I have bonded a male. One. It is ... a lovely start, and very much Healing. A Red Jewelled Warlord Prince of all things. We spoke of you, and now I am here to see you, with his full knowledge and blessing." Charisma bowed her head kindly. "I hope it is small comfort to my sister's news. But not the news you were likely hoping for. You have been missed dearly, Prince Tanithil, and I hope you have not believed I had forgotten you, even if you are not mine, and entirely belong to your Queen." While Thorn sniffled, Charisma quietly and patiently rubbed her back, doing her best to pull the tension out of the room with her calming presence. Black Widows and Warlord Princes were cagey fellows on the best of days, and this definitely was not one such.

Cinder accepted the praise of the Major with pride and a subdued smile. He was an attractive male, and kind, but she felt she was just doing her job. She’d been selected to assist the Master of the Guard and keep his office running smoothly. Doing her job filled her with a sense of pride.

Inside the office, Valor’s wariness steadily increased as Thorn sat down and Charisma seemed to be there supporting her sister. Valor knew Thorn well enough to pick up on her disquiet. She wasn’t hiding anything from him, he knew, but she was trying to find a way to break unwelcome news. Had she seen something in her webs to give her pause? Even if she had, what would require Charisma’s presence as...what? A buffer? Did she fear Valor’s anger at her? Or his disappointment? Or was she worried that he’d need their support for what was coming?

Thorn, whatever this is, it’s okay. I will say that I’m concerned but I’m listening. Whatever you want to tell me, you can.

He forced himself to listen quietly, to avoid demanding that she tell him whatever was hurting her so that he could kill it slowly.

"I was going to tell you, I swear,  when I was sure."

He understood, then, where this was going. They’d been trying to add to their family for some time, without success. This was important to Thorn, deeply important, in light of all she’d endured in the past. She’d never bring this up unless she was sure, just as she would tell him straight away if she was with child. Now he understood Charisma’s reason for being here. She would blame herself, no matter the words that came from her mouth right now. No matter how much her sister tried to convince her otherwise. No matter what he might say in the next few minutes to try to convince her of the same.

His love was hurting and Valor could not kill that at all, no matter how eagerly he wished to.

The tears came after a moment and Valor moved closer to her. He knelt before Thorn and took her hands in his. For this moment, Charisma did not exist in his field of vision. The Sapphire Queen was also part of his family, but Valor’s focus was solely upon his beloved.

I’m absolutely sure you’ve been told this more than once before arriving here, so I’ll reiterate it. This is absolutely not your fault, Thorn. All this means is that it did not happen this time. All this means is that we keep trying. I cannot pretend to know the disappointment or pain that you’re feeling right now. I will share it with you and lighten your burden.” Valor said, lifting her hands to his lips and kissing them softly.

It will happen when it happens. Until then, we’ll keep trying. You seem to enjoy the practice, so I think we’ll just have to be more vigorous in our attempts.” he said.

If there was any hesitancy to speak of such intimate topics in Charisma’s presence, Valor gave no indication of it. He knew both women intimately and neither held any anger or jealousy for it. Charisma had seduced him to prove a point, one that he and Thorn sorely needed to see. She held a special place in his heart for doing so and he was glad to see her here.

Thank you, Lady Charisma, for being there for her. I...I know that I’m not equipped to offer her the support that you can. I’m just glad that she wasn’t alone.” he said, before returning his attention to Thorn.

This is not your fault, my love. I don’t blame you at all and I never will.

While Thorn blushed at Valor's attention, which wasn't an easy reaction at all times for the Warlord Prince to pull from his would-be wife, Charisma turned her head to give the pair perfectly elegant privacy as best as one could with another person sitting directly next to a conversation in progress. The Black Widow could tell that the Warlord Prince wanted to actively do something about her pain even though there was nothing that could be done.

She bowed her head, listening to him carefully rather than offering even the slightest emotional protest. He had been right, of course. Thorn had been told precisely that it was not her fault and that as a possible future mother that she shouldn't stress herself over it. A shiver was a visible response to Valor taking her hands while she settled her eyes upon him. Love was a bright expression upon the Court Seer's face, all of it for the potential father of a child.

Lifting both of her hands with considerable care, she pressed both of them to Valor's face in a truly intimate display rather than holding back her more volatile hand. The woman was done with her moon time at least, and it showed in her psychic scent, plus if she had still been upon it Thorn would have never been able to walk to meet Valor in his office. Being a carrier of a Red Jewel meant that her moon time was especially vicious.

"Only emotional pain right now, at least. The actual time has passed," she also offered as a verbal explanation to soothe Valor's mood. Not to mention, he'd have been able to probably tell if that had been otherwise. A woman's moon time was often very, very detectable to even the most novice of Blood Males. Her pulse was rapid as she watched Valor, and relief was her primary reaction especially due to the way he showed no hesitation in speaking as well as touching her intimately next to the Lady Charisma.

"You are so good to me, Prince Tanithil." After only a short consideration, Thorn moved forth with a rapid movement after her welcome and the Warlord Prince's non-verbal permission would have been evident to kiss Valor just then. Her welcome of his compassion was decisively heated as her lips tangled with his following his thanking Charisma for being present and emotionally available. One of her hands still lay in her half-sister's grip, while Valor held the other. "Valor," she murmured against the Master of the Guard's mouth.

Of course, neither noticed Charisma's tension from the kiss that followed their speaking and explanations and the manner that she watched the offering of love far, far too tightly. Not to mention the manner in which she held on to Thorn's hand. Her pulse was rapid in observing the pair in their intimate moment, but mostly she was relieved that her half-sibling hadn't been harmed by the stress she had been under. While some might have hesitated at sharing a lover as they had, Charisma held no such pointless feelings. While she certainly wasn't ignored by her new Bonded male, he also wasn't with her as much as either one would have preferred and even if Prince Tarn had been it wouldn't have changed the Sapphire Jewelled Queen's deep interest in Prince Valor, which she hadn't savoured in quite a long time.

Long enough that it was possible the man thought her interest was brief and a one-time occurrence. Instead, she watched him intently as the sensual knew no bounds, not to speak of the manner her own Jewels continued to resonate with the Purple Dusk and Sapphire that the younger man possessed. However, Charisma was patient and polite. Even if the Warlord Prince considered her part of his family, not every or even most men preferred the attention of more than one woman at the same time. It pleased her to see, so very much that the pair had worked out many of their communication issues. As such, she watched both with brightened and intrigued eyes.

She had indeed seduced the Warlord Prince to make a point about the kind of male a Warlord Prince was in an innate manner, that he could not pretend to be a Prince or allow himself that kind of truncated mental state without severe harm being done to his intended family. Lady Charisma drew a deep breath and released it tremulously. The Queen had little control over where her thoughts went from that juncture, right to the manner that Valor had speared her so well the last time she was conscious in his presence. Desire roared up like intense flames in her mind, and she realized the room was just then much too small for the three of them.

Once it seemed that Thorn maybe might not rip off her intended's shirt, Charisma took that point to inject a small amount of sensibility into the conversation, and attempt to distract herself from what she was feeling. Mostly, because she did not wish to place herself potentially where she might not be wanted. They hadn't discussed anything at all before she had been attacked. "Perhaps we might open a window, Prince Tanithil?" It affected the Queen sharply having two people that had been intensely trying for a child in a small space with her. That one of them was a blood relation in part made no difference at all. She rose to her feet, not thinking clearly about how Valor would consider the rapid movement of her rising and walking past him to get to the window. She stilled rather than continuing to walk past the Warlord Prince, realizing the sudden potential error of her actions and settled her attention on Valor.

"May I attend to the window, or would you prefer to do so, Prince?" There wasn't exactly any danger this close to the Black Castle, but given her previous issue, Valor might not want her near the window at all and it very well could set off his temper, she realized. As such, Charisma waited also just as carefully for an indication of permission before settling her hand upon his shoulder and smoothing it down the man's arm. She smiled after doing so, and the sudden electricity of touching him was like a hand gripped around the muscle of her heart. The Queen's violet eyes widened, and for her part, Thorn went very still even with one of her hands still being held by Valor's. She struggled to look anywhere except for his mouth and utterly failed. Another person might have considered the moment awkward. Charisma was not that woman. She simply saw another opportunity for beauty and worship.

Long moments passed while Valor breathed in Thorn’s scent. It hurt his heart to know that she blamed herself that she wasn’t with child. He would never blame her for such a thing, nor grow impatient with her. His view was that this just allowed them more time to practice vigorously until she was without Craft for nine months. Pregnancy was a dangerous time, especially for a female with a Dark Jewel. Even more for a woman who’d already suffered a loss. Valor would have given anything to allay her fears in that office, trapped as he was with an emotionally wounded woman and--

The other scent in the office drew his attention like a second melody hidden within the refrain of a favorite song.

Charisma.

The Queen did not move, but Valor was aware of her position all the same. Thorn murmured his name against his lips, but she held Charisma’s hand, too. In that moment, Valor recalled that each of these women were familiar with his desk and how it felt beneath him. Charisma’s scent said that she remembered, too. The scent of Black Widow melded with the unmistakable aroma of Queen, both Dark Jeweled, and Valor knew that the office was too small for all of them to remain here without something occurring.

Charisma spoke up, the sound of her voice calling Valor back to the present. A window. Yes a window. Fresh air. Fresh air would help them think. Fresh air would allow cooler heads to prevail and wiser minds to seek grace. He wanted to open that window, but the feel of Thorn’s hand upon him was a momentary distraction.

One that fell by the wayside the moment Charisma moved. Valor’s hand lanced out like a snake attacking a mouse. He caught her hand at the wrist, his grasp firm but not painful. It was merely meant to check the Queen’s movement, rather than restrain her. Valor imagined his hand at her throat, showing Charisma a form of restraint that she would enjoy more than the restraint he’d shown at their first meeting.

He kissed Thorn gently on the lips and then drew himself to his full height. He looked down at Charisma, her wrist trapped in his hand the entire time. Valor’s mind was treading down paths he knew it shouldn’t. He and Thorn had worked hard to get to this place where they were finally happy and honest with each other. That honesty allowed the three of them to be in this office right now, existing together as they did.

Valor released Charisma’s wrist. He cleared his throat. “Yes, Lady Charisma. Perhaps some fresh air would be helpful.” he said, his eyes focused on hers.

You are a guest here. Please, sit. I’ll take care of it.” Valor said, watching her. He waited until she sat down, attention focused solely upon her, before he tore his eyes away. He went to the window, taking a moment to unlock it, and opened it to let the fresh air of Nieste into his office. He heard the birds in the woods. The scent of wildflowers was heavy in the daytime air. It cleared Valor’s senses, that summer breeze. It reminded him that there was a world outside this office, one that he should probably go and see before he did something ill-advised to the women before him. He inhaled and exhaled. He did so three times before turning back to them.

What is your agenda for the day? I know that you’re both busy women and your time is in high demand. I wouldn’t force you to sit in this office all day if you didn’t have to.” Valor said.

Is there somewhere that I can escort you? Have you eaten?” he asked, looking between them.

He was certain that one of them would sell out the other at the first opportunity, knowing that he wouldn’t be satisfied until he knew the truth.

Thorn had started to feel better about everything as Valor spoke. Always, there had been something about his voice from the first moment they had met. Even though she still was a little dizzy with sadness, it continued to ebb to lingering discomfort. Although Valor worried and fretted, there were times that he seemed amusingly oblivious to how good he was at soothing her worst, and most foolish fears. Focused on that, and him, she had nearly missed the fact that her Queenly half-sibling had pulled his attention away in a manner that he couldn't have fought off.

Warlord Princes were always ruled by their needs and penchant for violence, and though Valor was more controlled than some because he long had been bonded to a Queen, that didn't change the fact that he was a Sapphire Warlord Prince. Thorn forced herself not to grin but was then equally struck by the tension in her would-be husband. The office suddenly was far too small and she suddenly wanted to drag him to the desk, and it made no difference to the Red Jewelled Black Widow that they had an audience. She swallowed hard at the feeling of Valor's hand in hers and then realized she was still holding Charisma's hand. The thought of letting go of either one made her angry, and she wasn't sure why, even as love swelled in her thoughts intensely.

The woman was still trying to decipher her mood as the tangled feelings caused her pulse to race by the time Charisma spoke about a window. While Thorn didn't say as much out loud, she was startled as well by the Queen rising to her feet and protested with a soft sound that could have been a whimper or something else. It forced her to release the woman's hand, but Valor was fast. Quick enough that his kiss to her still tingled upon her lips as he halted Charisma from walking past him. Thorn's lips parted and warmth swamped her from that single motion. Black Widows were changeable in mood, manner and desires; like the snap of a finger.

A pleasurable moment could come to a frozen stillness, and the reverse was as swiftly possible for half a thousand reasons that those who were not Black Widows could perhaps only partially understand. Thorn worried at her lower lip while her pulse pounded away like a blacksmith's hammer with a divine mission. She watched intensely while Charisma slowly took her seat once more, stunningly without the slightest complaint. A smile bloomed on Thorn's face at how patient she was with Valor. She got points for that, and more particularly it distracted the Black Widow from the sadness and uncertainty she had been feeling. Her gaze wandered toward Valor moving across the room, as he opened the window.

However, the scent of the warm, pleasant breeze had the exact opposite effect on her as it did Valor. Rather than clear her head, it made her more aware of the two people in the room. Valor's remaining tension made her thoughts spin in an entirely different way, and for a moment she was dismayed at her own tendency to shift thoughts and moods so rapidly, while the scent of Queen in the room became more intense due to the presence of nature that much closer.

The chair she was sitting in creaked slightly as Thorn gripped it a little too tightly. The woman quickly let go of the chair. Amusement coloured the Black Widow's thoughts and expression. "A meal would make sense. It has been hours for me." However, she had no intention of deciding because her own was not the ranking Caste in the room. Thorn's attention turned toward Charisma as after all, she could see Valor any time she wanted. The Queen was the one who had travelled. "Is that what you want? A meal? Your arrival was honestly more perfect than I could say. I love Valor, but your presence always reminds me to be more patient than I naturally am." There was still a faint shadow of sadness in her face, but she smiled at Valor while also granting Charisma her attention, with her eyes and all.
"Do they not bleed from the bite of a Thorn?"

As Valor was not her Bonded, the desire to disregard his wish for her to sit back down was an amused and sharpened challenge in her face. Her lips turned upward on the left side of her face. She listened and sat back down, but it was likely that only the Warlord Prince would have noted the low growl when he first snared her wrist, but it wasn't a sound of disapproval. Charisma couldn't help herself in wanting to draw him out and smash every hint of control like a trickster with an agenda for fun.

Only Thorn's uncertain mood and Valor's gentle, concerned reaction to that reeled the Queen in, making clear her stillness and willingness to listen were ever so temporary, and that there was a reason that Flair often still called her Hellchild with desperate exasperation. The woman's bright violet eyes danced in her face as Thorn allowed herself a smile, however just after Valor opened the window. She couldn't help but lean forward, letting the outdoor scents surround and delight.

If she could have, the Queen would have been out the window. Alas, manners and propriety existed, and that was a part of herself that she kept heavily under wraps with elegant hats, gloves and other accoutrements. With a glimmering, relieved manner she briefly wondered how Tarn and Valor would get along, and her pulse skipped more quickly in pleasure knowing that her Bonded was well aware of where she was, why, and that she had come to visit the Master of the Guard of Dea al Mon with his blessing. The Queen's cheeks turned pink however with the attention now firmly upon her. She had never done well with more than one person at a time but was far better at accepting such things than she once had been.

At that moment, she could still almost feel the echo of Valor's fingers around her wrist. She only stared at him intensely when he wasn't looking, and almost immediately looked away when the Warlord Prince turned around. While she wanted him riled and ruffled, Charisma knew that his office was not the place to test his patience. She didn't want to terrify his new secretary. As such, it was an easy decision to remain reasonably well mannered even if it was by no means what Charisma wanted. Her pulse thumped along; Charisma had missed him more than she realized. It had only been an amusement because Prince Tarn had noticed first.

"Then if a meal seems to be what everyone wants, and I do think I need by this hour, we should attend to that. My ... agenda," she said carefully while trying her best to keep her sheer want of him to a dull roar in her thoughts, "Was to see you, Valor. I am here to visit you. I only didn't write in advance because I ... did not desire anything fancy." Just you, everywhere--no. No .... don't go there, Charisma thought, harshly.

"Just you, and it was a delightful bonus that Thorn was on her way to see you anyway, with news that was hard for her to give. I am always glad to help anyone that has the need." She laughed brightly, complimentarily. "To serve. Is that not what we are all for?" There still wasn't enough air in the room, but her smile revealed the pointed eyeteeth which were a marker for the older lineage family she was a member of. She continued to not look at Valor, her gaze shifting from the window, to the walls, to Thorn and back. At best, her gaze glanced off of the Warlord Prince's shoulders, his hands.

Not here, not here, Charisma thought to herself, well aware of Thorn's tension. If the Black Widow couldn't control herself, there would be no hope of the same for herself or Valor. Food, she thought foolishly, would ease the thoughts bouncing in her mind and none of it was suited for this place.

Valor’s gaze moved between the two women. Thorn seemed acutely aware of the mood in the room, something that Valor attributed to her caste. She was so cognizant of his emotional states that Valor wondered if his betrothed had layered his clothing with spells to provide that information to her at need. The thought didn’t bother him like he once thought it would. Knowing that Thorn cared enough to keep tabs on him made him feel important to her.

Then it’s settled. We all need a meal and a chance to focus on happier things. It's a good thing that you two came. I’m starving.” Valor said, adjusting his coat. He didn’t know which woman would break first, but he was more than fine pressing the issue. He walked over and offered both women his hands, drawing them to their feet. Then he walked over to the door and held it open for them, allowing them to move into the hallway. He set the wards on his door and then lead both women out of the Black Castle and into the bright and clear day on the streets of Nieste. The fresh air and open space was a boon to his concentration, but he suddenly didn’t want to share their company with anyone else. The first erant fool to look at either of them would lose his eyes.

Valor had no desire to clean blood out of his suit.

So...I have an idea. Thorn, why don’t we go the townhouse? We’ll have lunch there and we can catch up. I can also ensure that the two of you are as safe as possible in a place that I know is well-defended.” Valor said.

And then Charisma can tell me why she came to see me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m flattered by your desire to see me. I nearly reached out a time or two myself, but after everything that happened, I didn’t want to upset your bonded.” he said.

He offed an arm to each woman.

Shall we?

If Thorn had known she could monitor a Warlord Prince's emotional state through his attire she might have asked her darling first to avoid tripping up his temper and feelings, but unfortunately, while as clever and intelligent as the Red Jewelled Black Widow liked to consider herself, she wasn't quite that lucky, and though it was true she could have swept Valor's thoughts on the surface, she preferred to stay out of his head in any fashion unless he'd explicitly permitted her there. Mostly, she just watched her beloved intensely and had begun to do so more and more, finding herself delighted with what she noticed as her experience in observing Valor increased as time had gone on. Thorn had come to realize that Valor was far more patient than she originally had once assumed.

Every glimpse of this made her want to keep trying to be more, and better than her Caste might have initially allowed the Black Widow to try and be, but even she was more than just what made her. He deserved her to take care, to be aware and not make mistakes as best she could. It occurred to her a moment later that blaming herself for the natural rhythms of her body was also, on that list. She would have try her very best to do better to control her fears and anxieties, but even having briefly sunk low, that he had been there to make sure she didn't stay sad meant everything. For a moment Thorn watched Valor with wide, expressive eyes, teeth pressed into her lower lip.

The very thought made her emotions warm more to the point that by the time he neatened the very fine coat and walked over to help both her and Charisma to her feet that she wasn't thinking about anything other than how good he'd looked doing so, how confident, intelligent. Her pulse quickened and it took effort to clear her head, and it was nearly impossible to focus on anything but Valor's scent for approximately a full minute. She'd wanted to bury her face against his chest and could have done just that for days whether or not Charisma had been there. Her cheeks remained brightly pink even as she took Valor's arm. She felt ... dizzy with luck and pleasure especially considering how dangerous it was in too many places within Dea al Mon.

"The townhouse." Half a dozen moments wrapped in Valor's arms flipping through her thoughts nearly caused Thorn to stumble, and she would have, had the woman not been well accustomed and appreciative of the way he affected her. However, being mostly past the grief of not managing a pregnancy any of the recent times they attempted only reminded her that she wasn't on her moon cycle anymore. Which of course, reminded the Black Widow of how lovely Valor was. Which that thought lead to how much better he looked both in and outside of any of his suits.

"We can do that. Definitely. I like that idea, catching up." She did nod in agreement in seriousness however when he mentioned that the location was one place that was well defended. Her eyes moved toward Charisma and she smiled rather than mention the other woman's fears and struggles, and why it had taken her so long to come back to Nieste.

"That you would take care to keep us both safe as well, is more than worth the trip." She kept herself close to Valor, walking easily at his pace while settling her head upon his shoulder. She knew he was committed to keeping anyone safe, and as much of Dea al Mon safe as he could, but even that was something that the Black Widow preferred to appreciate rather than take for granted. If she was worried any further about trying to have a child, that seemed to be pushed out of her mind for the time being.  Thorn couldn't help but smile even more at the thought of how good they had to have looked walking together, and it wasn't just for the appearance. Love, trust, and protectiveness that stirred her feelings intensely before physical beauty made the list. That Charisma had felt brave enough to come back also seemed almost too good to be true, but she had no intention to see a blessing and not accept it.

Charisma remained mostly silent as Valor's attention upon her once she admitted at least partly why she was there was almost like a physical touch. Of course, it was after that point that the Master of the Guard walked forward and did offer his arm. She, of course, accepted, still unable to look him in the face. Her wrist tingled where the Warlord Prince had gripped it. Charisma wanted to ask Prince Tanithil to wrap his hand around her wrist again. Such a foolish request, she also thought. Having one bonded meant that there were only twelve holes in her heart and soul which made for a little less of the horrible feeling of malaise, but contrary to what Prince Tarn would have preferred, Bonding him had by no means healed her, even if it had warmed her heart a thousand times plus a thousand more.

The beautiful, passionate man she had been blessed to bond did not wish to release his hope that in true form she couldn't be healed, even if she wished more than anything that it was that simple for broken bonds. The sweetness of that, his acceptance of the people that she ... cared for.

Yes, that's what Charisma would go with as to what she felt and thought, she decided even as her pulse quickened even more.

In some ways, she thought that Valor understood her better perhaps because he had been Bonded for so long while her own Bonded was new to understanding a Bonded Queen's function even if he understood Queens to a point that some did not. However, she did understand that more would come with time and as she never expected to have another bond, ever, Charisma had been able to recover from her ordeal and move on as best as their lives would allow. That the Waste would allow. She didn't allow herself to think about those that were gone at all but instead accepted Prince Tanithil's Escort. Finally, once they were heading the direction of the Townhouse that had previously belonged to elder family, the Queen spoke.

"Thank you. Ah, you ... would not have upset Prince Tarn, but it is very considerate that you took care and thought of me." Charisma smiled in return as she noticed Thorn's smile. "In which case, once we arrive at the planned destination I will explain my reasoning though, if you think about it, perhaps the why might be obvious," the Sapphire Queen said with a quiet, incredibly understated elegance that was the complete opposite to the manner that her pulse had begun to pound as the Warlord Prince had drawn closer. Charisma wondered if perhaps she had been incorrect in coming here to visit, that it could have even still been too soon. She fought off a shiver as her hand brushed against Valor's while they walked. Her gaze lifted only to his shoulder and no higher. She was sure that if she looked into his face that lunch would be delayed. Entirely sure of it. There was not enough poetry to describe the moment, the passionate tension.

Valor was the consummate escort, setting an easy pace for both women and keeping an eye out for any difficulties that might pose a challenge on their path. They walked down the streets of Nieste away from the Black Castle and toward Thorn’s townhouse. He was curious at what Charisma had to say and more curious at what Thorn’s reaction might be to it all of it. Both women felt, to him, as though they were dancing around a topic that they had yet to bring to him. He did not know if they wanted to discuss the same topic or a different one. He didn’t know if it was an extension of their discussion in his office. The curiosity ate at him, but the fresh air allowed him to focus his thoughts on getting where they needed to go.

Only twice during the walk did Valor get the sense that something was amiss. Both times, he felt that the three of them were being watched. He cast out with Jewels and felt someone at the edge of his consciousness watching and waiting, but when he reached out for more information, the signature slipped through his fingers like wisps of smoke. Both women saw plainly the annoyance in his mien, though they knew it wasn’t directed at them. When they were within sight of the townhouse, Valor hurried both women inside and asked them to wait behind the webs and security spells that Thorn had women into her home. He took a quarter of an hour to search the area on foot and look for any trace of their pursuer.

Valor was forced to return after that time empty-handed, though he sensed that whoever it was had gotten their jollies and pulled back before they provoked him to the Killing Edge. At that time, no one would be safe from a Warlord Prince with a mind to do harm.

Inside the townhouse, Valor turned to both women and offered them warm smiles. “I apologize for the delay. I don’t think we’ll be bothered here.

So, what’s for lunch? And what’s going on with you two?
” he asked, looking between them as he expected someone to answer.
