* Plot Information for Chaillot

Alois Oberonn has proven herself to be a witch with both the vision and capability to run Chaillot in the aftermath of mass death and destruction. With a hero of the people--Jérémie Tailor--at her side as First Escort, many believe that the territory is well on its way to recovery. Yet not everything is what it seems: the Red Market holds Chaillot in its clutches, Dark Jeweled boogeymen might be real, Landen rule Touleans, and there are whispers of worse things on the horizon.

Appearance
Play By:Benjamin  Walker
Distinguishing Features:

Tall and athletic, Armel has an odd blend of being able to command attention and blend into the crowd. He has bright eyes, which regard you with a keen intellect and a mischevious smile behind them; and a mess of hair that is often style or left to its own devices. He is rarely found sporting the same type of clothes, grabbing whatever moves him at the time. He is lucky enough that he can pull of scruffy one day, but be dressed to the nines the next.

Personality

Personality:

Ever since he was a child, listening to his father’s every word as the waves rocked their tiny fishing sloop; Armel realized that he loved the sea and that if you wanted to get what you want then you had to do everything possible to get it. Spending his childhood on the waters, he taught him the value of hard work, teamwork, and discipline and once he set his sight on the glorious naval ships, he grew even more determined to realize his goals.

Armel also found other sides of his nature blossoming once he managed to secure a commission within the Navy. After having worked for so long to achieve a goal, he found that the time he spent with his comrades gave him a renewed sense of appreciation for the pleasures that could be found after a long voyage. He learned to laugh, dance and sing like the rest of the crew taught him to be less serious.

Armel has a strong sense of right and wrong, after all as the Captain he was often the judge and jury for smugglers and pirates that were captured. He also envies those who have found their mate, or chosen partners; as he found little time for dalliances among his climbing of the Naval ladder. He is a bit of a romantic when it comes to the fairer sex, a fact he has kept buried behind a stern and stoic appearance; as the weakness, it could have presented was one he worried many would have exploited.

Likes:
  • 1 Music- Long hours of sailing were often broken with music and singing. The shanty's of the sailors and the music crystals he had purchased would fill his cabin with soft music. Since the sinking of his ship, Armel has many songs that will make him sit silently and reminisce.
  • 2 Creature Comforts- Life aboard a ship is not one of great comfort. As the Captain, he enjoyed the finest cabin and had much more room that a seaman forced to swing in the hold. But compared to shore life, it was always long hours and tight spaces. So Armel now takes the time to enjoy good food, the comforts of a warm hearth and fresh linens.
  • 3 Rum- A drink that is a staple for many Navy men, Armel grew to have a great fondness for rum and Blood Rum as well. He has looked for the best brewers and is known to keep a particularly good bottle at his desk for when a thirst takes him.
Dislikes:
  • 1 Dark Haven- Armel is too consummate a player of the social games to ever directly speak out about the Dark Haven, but he does not like that such a place exists. Although a survivor of the Dark Jeweled attacks, and the fact he has seen first hand that they can be violent, volatile and untrustworthy.; Armel wishes there was a better solution for Dark Jewels. Seeing how his brother was thrown into Dark Haven when he came out of his Offering with a Red; Armel knows that not all the inmates there are villains, and if the attackers had come from there it may be time for a truer solution.
  • 2 Disorder. Armel cannot game the rules if there are no rules to game. He excels at making order out of chaos, but will always be at a disadvantage to those who can just jump in and thrive in the chaos without having to organize it first.
  • 3 Reading- He loves the clarity of thought that reading brings to him. Reading is a chance to lay the demands of the day behind him, and let the writer's words transport him. He enjoys many subjects from Naval Battles and history to the more popular of fictional works circulating through Challiot.
Fears:
  • 1 Fire: Armel has lived much of his life on a ship. He witnessed the damage fire could wreak first hand every time he looked at the burns on his father's arms. During his career with the Navy, he witnessed more than a few pirate vessels end their raids at the bottom of the briny sea; the men fleeing from the ship as the fire ate the wood away. And after the Dark Jewels attacked, using every means of terror they could, he saw more of what fire can do.
  • 2 Piracy- He has seen what greed can do to a man, to a crew; and now as the ravages of the Civil War settle into ash, what greed can do to a country. As the Navy lies in tatters after the attack from the Dark Jeweled, and duty pulls him in another direction; he worries that the open waters will turn into a hive of scum and villainy.
  • 3 Black Widows - He is too polite to show his feelings, but even as a young man the superstitions and attitudes of the sailors became part of him. As such, the Caste of Black Widows, with their strange and unusual abilities disturbs him deeply, and as he learned more of Dark Haven once his brother was interned there, the fear and distrust only grew worse.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Labor Craft - Armel grew up with ships, working on the sloop his father owned and operated. As such, he is a master at carpentry, repairs and using his Craft to aid in many of the hard and backbreaking labors that such trade requires.
  • 2 Power Bolts - As a veteran of many Naval engagements, Armel learned early on that the best way to help aid his vessel and crew was with long-range applications of his Craft. He has worked hard to learn the ability to throw his Power bolts farther and stronger than his Jewel strength would suggest.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Deception Craft- Armel is a Warlord of honor and a straight-shooter. He says what he means and he means what he says, with the full force of his passion and instincts behind it. He literally couldn’t tell a lie with Craft to save his life.
  • 2 Compulsion Craft. Armel has a natural distaste for controlling other people, particularly against their will or without their knowledge. And after his brother was forced to submit to the treatments at Dark Haven he grew to dislike the idea even further. While he can understand the usefulness, especially when so many of the Dark Jeweled become hostile in the territory, his attempts at it are weak at best and obvious at worst.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Viola Perron YellowRose  (Witch born 139 AP)
Father: Cristoph Perron RoseSummer Sky (Warlord born 135 AP)
Siblings: Jaryn Perron OpalRed (Warlord born 175 AP)

History:
Armel grew up amongst the docks and sailors of Challiot. His father operated a fishing sloop, while his mother worked and repaired many of the fishing nets and traps used by the family. From a young age, he was playing in the water, learning to swim and how to set the traps for shellfish, or helping his brother and father pull the heavy nets from the water.

As he grew up amongst the other fishing families, Armel felt drawn to the tall and imposing Naval ships that could be seen anchored in deeper water. They were the lifeblood of Challiot he knew, the whispered awe and respect given to even the lowest of Navy sailors impressing the young boy.

Once he came of age, he spent what he had managed to save to secure a commission on one of the smaller ships of the line, the Narwhal. He served there as a cabin boy, then climbed the ranks with determination and sacrifice. He would go on to serve on three more ships, under various Captains, men he respected and learned much from.

His only regret from his time away with the Navy was that he was unable to advocate for his brother. Once his brother returned from his Offering with a strength of jewel that beggared the rest of his family; his father was unable to overcome the fear and suspicion he felt of his youngest son. Every spike of temper, every foul mood was seen as a harbinger of insanity, and eventually, Armel learned his brother had been sent to the Dark haven, for his good of course.

Finally, with thirty Winsols under his belt, he was given command of his ship, the Freya, a Destroyer tasked with protecting valuable Merchant vessels from the ravages of pirates and other oceanic risks. He took the older Destroyer as a commission, and with a steady hand and firm discipline turned it into one of the best Destroyers in the Navy.

He had been on his way to command of a larger vessel, even though he was reluctant to leave one that had become almost kin to him. The Freya had drunk his blood on several occasions, and on the fateful day of the attack, she saved his life.

The weather had been building all day, the dark and ominous clouds pushing both the Freya and the galley they were escorting for greater speed. Armel knew well what the sky and its coloring meant, but even he was caught unaware by the sheer power of the storm. A hurricane of unknown strength, it bashed the coast of Challiot in a raging storm. Armel was longing for safe mooring and sent a prayer to the Darkness when the galley passed the breakwater.

He was navigating the port entrance himself when suddenly his lookout gave a great cry of dismay and shock. Looking frantically, Armel watched as witchfire bloomed on the deck of the merchant's vessel. Spying a lone figure in the clouds, the assailant somehow riding the Winds and using Craft to set the ship ablaze, Armel could scarcely believe his eyes.

Frantic, he turned the Freya back into the storm, hoping to run from the attack and make his way to a little cove he knew. But he had not reckoned with the storm, and the lashing rain and torrential winds ate at his ship and the Jewels of his crew as they tried to escape.

He lost track of the hours, lost track of everything except fighting for his life, and he never saw the rocks that sent him and his crew overboard. Sometime the next morning, he washed ashore with a handful of other survivors, the quick-thinking sailors having lashed their Captain to a larger piece of the wreckage. As he awoke in the healer’s bed, he was handed a small brass bell; all that remained of his vessel.

Character in Play:
Armel could scarcely believe it when the letter came for him. Thanking the messenger, he shrugged at the man’s polite bow, and haltingly made his way over to his desk.

The room was cold, dark and in a desperate need of airing out; Armel noticed as he made his way to where he kept his inks and parchment. Being Captain of a ship had given him a habit of journaling, keeping detailed notes and charts which he maintained even at home. His Aunt, a hearth witch had been furious that he had given her little warning to get his little shanty ready, but he assured her it was comfortable enough, and he made a half-hearted note to get a new chair as he sat down, his injuries groaning in protest.

His eyebrows lifted as he saw the signature of the outside of the envelope, and when he began reading the letter he had to stop and steady himself. ” Mother Night, that many of them dead, that many given to the sea,” he whispered sadly, unbelieving as the letter listed the ships and souls lost with them.

Shaking, his hands grabbing a bottle of rum, he drank hard, pulling from the bottle as it spilled and tumbled down onto his throat and shirt collar. A little more fortified, he continued to read in disbelief as he heard of the newly minted privateers, the newly appointed men who would serve as Challiot’s naval shield in the trying times. His friend begged him to aid him, to present a voice of dissent for what their new Queen appeared to be doing.

Hand absently rubbing the brass bell his sailors had recovered from the wreckage, Armel weighed the options in his mind. Sighing, he took another hard pull of the bottle and grimaced as his bandages pulled. Knowing there was little time to clean up, even if he risked offending the new Queen, Armel collected his reserve and leaving his shanty took the winds to see Alois Oberonn
