The First Step on a New Path is the Hardest
« on: Jan 09, 19, 10:40:59 PM »
“Prince Estaroth, now that the negotiations are finished, do you have a few moments to discuss a personal matter with me?” Lucky looked at the Warlord Prince and waited for his answer. When the male nodded, the Mineborn bowed to Lady Kriat and then to Lady Sabbah before taking his friends hand and gently kissing it. They should have dinner tonight, so they could discuss the attack on Onn. He was highly concerned about it and itched to get back to his territory before the situation worsened, but he also did not want to leave Elenor in this place. Perhaps he could persuade her to return with him.

Allowing Drakkar to exit the room first, Lucky walked into the hallway and let the Blood Seeker decide where they should talk. He would rather the conversation be private, but he did not much care if anyone heard them ultimately. There was no shame in the truths he would reveal to Drakkar.

Stretching his wings slights after sitting for so long, the Warlord Prince turned his green-gold gaze to the Warlord Prince of Askavi. He could not help the small part of admiration and awe that spiraled through him at seeing the warrior. Despite the disappointment Askavi had been, nothing would ever truly take Lucky’s desire to be a true Eyrien warrior away.

“I never learned small talk very well, so I will be blunt. Prince Abaddon might be your son, but he is also my brother.” Lucky took a breath. “It seems this trip was one of discovery for us all.”

Drakkar didn’t like leaving Illyrian’s side one bit.

When Prince al-Izar (he still could not understand why Lucky was considered a name) asked him to step out of the room and leave their Queens to speak on their own, Drakkar initial sensed treachery afoot. These Pruulians were strange and Drakkar had not yet decided if he disliked them or simply indifferent toward them. This boy ruler, however, was the oddest of the bunch. Still, Tavar had a hand in his upbringing and that lead also to Drakkar’s being unsure if he should trust the male or not. Yet there was little that Lucky could do to harm him Gravesend without sacrificing his own life in the process.

Drakkar looked to Illyrian first to determine if she consented to his absence. When she did, Drakkar nodded to Lucky and followed him out into the hall. Drakkar would then lead him down the hall to another office that was spartan in its decoration. A spear and a sword hung on the far wall. A balcony that opened onto the vistas of Snow Cliffs Province sat at the head of the room. But Lucky would see bookshelves lined with various books and knick knacks that seemed to have no rhyme or reason to them. A fist-sized hole in the rock wall near one of the bookcases was a memorial to his initial reaction at learning of Abaddon’s parentage.

Drakkar Estaroth’s office was an explanation of his life thus far for those who knew how to look. The Warlord Prince of Askavi entered the room first and moved toward the large hardwood desk sitting near the balcony. He gestured toward the near seat for Lucky to take and then moved to the other side of the desk. He sat down and crossed his arms, fixing a hard gaze on the Warlord Prince before him as the spoke of Abaddon being his brother.

Yes, Abaddon mentioned that you’d discovered a tie between the two of you prior to arriving at Gravesend. We’ve all learned something from your presence in Askavi.” Drakkar said.

But you’ll forgive me if I fail to see how this relates to you and I.

Lucky looked around the office as they entered, curious what the Warlord Prince of Askavi kept in his personal space. The books surprised him, a bit. Drakkar did not strike Lucky as an avid reader, but even the young Mineborn was beginning to see what power they could unlock within them. Following their secrets had allowed him to gather together his Clan after all. There was a power in reading about history in particular, because as much as Pruul clung to their tradition, they seemed destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over.

Taking a seat, Lucky sat on the edge, leaning forward. His hands propped up his chin and his wings folded neatly at his back. The Warlord Prince met the male’s gaze easily. He had crawled out of the Darkness and carved out a place for himself and his family. Without threatening them or his territory, little else scared him. “Abaddon grew up with a father his entire life. A shitty one, but a father none the less. Now he has found you.”

While Lucky had found a brother, that was not particularly who he had wished for his entire life.

“I must admit I hoped to find my father in just such a way while growing up. I imagined he was a warrior in one of Askavi’s Camps. Childish thoughts, I know, but I was young.” Lucky shrugged lightly, but kept his gaze on Drakkar. He was not here as the Warlord Prince of Pruul’s Council. He was here as a young man and he shifted seamlessly towards the truth of that, letting the weight of Pruul slip from him for the briefest of moments.

“Now, I find myself with the opportunity to find my mother instead.” He shifted, eyeing the spear and sword hung on the far wall. He took a breath. I will keep control of my temper, he reminded himself. For he knew when he asked the question, it would most likely bring an answer he disliked. Lucky had heard stories of Drakkar Estaroth after all. From what he had gathered, it was most likely the Warlord Prince had simply raped some nameless woman from the short lived territories. The idea of this man raping his mother caused his teeth to clench, but he forced himself to let the tension go.

“I know it might be difficult, but do you have any recollection of our mother? It would have been thirty-one years ago and she would have been short lived, to account for my eyes. Perhaps the territory you were in. A name. Jewels. I would appreciate anything.”
