thank you for being a friend
« on: Apr 14, 18, 12:31:50 AM »
When he was honest with himself, Vondar had to admit that he enjoyed these little visits.

Sitting in his office at Starfall, Province Seat of Living Lake, Vondar reclined in his chair with his eyes closed. Before he worked any extended feat of Craft, the Black Widow Prince liked to fortify his Chalice for the work ahead. Sometimes, he did so by imagining a game of chess with his old mentor, Rothello. The Hayllian taught him to play almost two and a half millennia ago, but Vondar recalled his stratagems with ease. Vondar once thought him unbeatable, unassailable because of his years of knowledge and experience. Growing older, he realized that Rothello was an old man locked into the same paths and practices his father taught him. Once he understood that, it was easy enough to deal with him.

Sometimes, Vondar even missed him.

Today, he recalled the path that Fayrian, his old friend, often took from her home in Fell Valley to reach Starfall. Vondar’s eyes opened to slits, noting the position of the sun. Early noon meant that Fayrian was still three hours away. The guard had known her for decades, knew that Vondar would see her here at Starfall first. They would catch up, talk about the old days, and then they’d move down the hall to visit the Court Seer to address her own Chalice. Then they’d have dinner, some wine, and a good conversation before Fayrian turned in for the evening. In the morning, she would return home, but not before insisting that Vondar find a good woman and do something than work.

Decades later and the script still felt fresh and fun.

Two hours away, Fayrian would be at the western edge of Living Lake.

One hour away, Vondar opened his eyes and rose from his desk. By the time Fayrian and her escort met with the Master of the Guard and were ushered to the lift, Vondar waited at the top. He held out his hands to the Queen, greeting her properly. Her jewels were broken nearly two centuries ago, but her mind was still clear and sharp. Vondar appreciated that. He’d put a lot of work into making certain that Fayrian didn’t just survive her breaking, but that she thrived afterward to the best of her ability.  She was known among the Landen as one of the Blood that could trusted, if not accepted.

Her escort received a simple, brief nod of recognition. Vondar ruled here and it would not hurt to remind the other male of that.

Lady Avilor, welcome back. This place seems to brighten whenever your here.” he said hugging her once she allowed it.  He would hug her tightly for a moment before letting go and offering her his arm to take if she wished. He’d lead her away from the lift and to his office after a brief walk.

I have food on the way if you’re hungry. How are things? I wish I hadn’t missed Winsol, but something came up. Couldn’t be avoided.” Vondar said

I’m glad you came, though. I’ve missed talking to you.

Fayrian had struggled to clear her schedule for this visit, but clear it she did. Not many things would pull her away from the Landen of Fell Valley, but Vonder would. He was not her bonded, nor was he family, but in all of Askavi, he was without a doubt her closest friend. It was thanks to him and his connections that she was still...herself. His had been the eyes she saw when she woke from that darkness following the Breaking of her Jewels. His had been the shoulder she had leaned on the first time she walked into the sun and dared let her bare feet touch the ground, and his had been the friendship that had sustained her over the years since then.

She arrived at Starfall with an overnight bag and a smile. That quirk of her lips was reserved for a small number, but it shone unabashedly when she caught sight of him. “Vondar, it’s a pleasure to see you.” She said, returning his greeting and folding her wings in tight to her back as she reached towards his waiting arms, hers tightening around him. She pulled back and looked him up and down. “Don't think for a minute that sort of flattery works on me, I know you and your tricks far too well for that. You look the same as ever, old friend: overworked and like you have a headache. Come on, let's see if an afternoon of not working will do us both some good, shall we?” She hooked her arm through his, waving her escort back a pace as he leaned forward. “I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine. You got me here safely, Prince Shoshtakov can take it from here.”

As the Warlord grumbled but was left behind, Fay leaned her head on Vondar’s shoulder for a moment as they walked, a light spring in her step. “Things...honestly, I don't know how well I can say they’ve been going. Every year there's less food, more Jinka, greater tension between the races and fewer ideas about how to solve them. If I'm being honest It's a bit of a fucking mess out there, but I know you and I are working hard to fix it so there's that, at least.” The Court out of Gravesend certainly wasn't fucking doing enough, but she knew he was, and Fay did not really want to get too deep into politics just yet. If she was going to be getting ‘throw-things-at-walls-angry’ then she at least wanted to be in Vondar’s office as a courtesy to anyone walking by. His collection of books had proven to be excellent projectiles in past experience (with one of his shields around them, of course) and his walls phenomenal targets.

“You were missed at Winsol, but we somehow managed without you. I even tri, on the whole, baking so, on the whole, it was a good year to skip. My brother still says he chipped a tooth on the cookies.” And then they had cried into each other's shoulders for an hour as they remembered all those not celebrating with them, but she hardly wanted to dampen the mood of this reunion with that dour tidbit.

She stepped through into his office when he opened the door, then pulled him into another hug, the cheery smile she had worn in the outside hall falling away to reveal a softer, sadder one, eyes heavy but still with a bit of light left in them. “I’ve missed you too, very much. Come, catch me up on everything.”

Vondar shook his head as Fayrian read him like an open book. Her perceptive nature was one reason why he liked her. The Queen’s jewels were broken, but her mind was whole and sharp as ever. A laugh escaped him as she suggested an afternoon of not working, mostly because she was one of the few people who could hold him to it. Issues would come to mind, as they always did, but Fay made sure that Vondar concentrated on the here and now, rather than tomorrow and every day after that. Even with Bree, Vondar was always thinking about what came next rather than what was happening here and now.

Well, maybe I’ll let you deal with Prince Kurlov for a week or two. Mother Night knows that I could use the vacation. The man is pushing back hard against everything I do. He’s got warriors behind him. And his leader is now the Warlord Prince of Askavi. I can’t afford mistakes.” Vondar said, walking arm-in-arm with the Queen.

He grinned at her mention of baking. “You baked? Now I’m really sorry I missed it. But that’s okay. Next Winsol, we’re going to bake something. If we’re both terrible at it, we’ll be terrible at it together.” he said. She seemed happy. Even with everything she’d lost, she wasn’t dwelling on those losses. She was trying new things and socializing with her family. Family was important, important enough that Vondar had done his best to ingratiate himself with hers as part of her care.

They arrived in his office. Only after she was inside did Vondar close the door and then activate the webs that would subtly discourage anyone in the court from coming to his door with their concerns. His second could handle most tasks and, if he couldn’t, Vondar would guide him through the necessary steps. But his time with Fayrian was inviolate. He would not be rushed away from her to tend to someone’s ego or politicking.

Her mien sobered. Vondar knew this was coming, but he expected that he was the one who’d be delivering ill news. He sat down beside his friend and placed his hand over hers.

Imarian’s doing well. I mean, people are still resisting the idea of her forming a court. After all these centuries and everything going on, there are still people out there who think pureblood is the only mark of a true Eyrien.” Vondar said, sighing aloud. He cast a glance at the bookcases and the wall, both of which he’d stripped down before this visit. Everything in his office had a place. He loved Fay, but she could get...animated when she was upset.

He did not want to kill his dear friend for the same temper that he respected so fiercely.

Things are getting worse everywhere, Fay. Just the tidbits I’ve heard aren’t encouraging. The Territory Court is sending out more diplomats, but there’s been no word on anyone who went to Hayll. The skies are getting darker in Snow Cliffs, too. Something is wrong. I heard that a refugee from Shalador was here at Winsol. One who wore the Ebon Gray. Yet no seasonal rites were done and the harvests this year were down from last year.” Vondar said.

My projections show that this is going to get worse if something doesn’t change. But everyone’s looking to their own land and people, rather than figuring out how to make any of this better.”  Vondar said.

He sighed.

And the Jhinka aren’t just getting smarter. Now they’re testing the border guards. They’ve tried to break through a few times. We’ve stopped them, but Kurlov is demanding more supplies and manpower that I just don’t have.” Vondar said.

Something has to change, Fay. I just don’t know what that is.” he said quietly.

“Maybe you should leave him to me for a week. There’s this Landen woman I’ve been spending time with, Dirian, who wields a wooden spoon with enough ferocity to make grown men beg for mercy. She’s been giving me lessons.” Fay replied with an evil smirk. “Prince Kurov might be stubborn, but I can promise you that I’m much more so.”

Then he promised to bake with her next Winsol and Fay felt her cheeks heat. “Oh no. You don’t want to bake with me. Getting that covered in flour would do terrible things with this sense of dignity you have going for yourself these days. I think I was getting butter out of my hair for day, though Darkness knows how it got there.” She was fairly sure it had just been carelessness and not a moment of blackout. Those had not come often in the last few decades, and she usually remembered the lapse when it came.

As Vondar shut the door, Fay walked over to the side table where he kept a few bottles and poured herself and him a drink. It was a familiar pattern and one she followed without much conscious thought. Taking a sip, she considered her friend. “That’s idiotic. If you’re Eyrien enough to call our land home and want to do right by it then you are Eyrien enough to rule. There aren’t enough Queens out there and the land is suffering for it.” Her voice caught on the last few words, a heavy guilt and stranglehold of grief poking her in the chest. She was a Queen. She shouldbe out there nourishing the land and keeping her people whole but instead, the Territory was falling to ruin with very little Fay could do to stop it.

“You know, I remember a time when occasionally news was good. I can’t remember the last time I heard any, anymore. You’re right. Everyone is being myopic, but what else can you expect when our leaders are the same people who closed themselves off from the world in our time of greatest need. Everyone is learning form example, except that it’s the wrong example, and it’s going to get us all killed.” It was not a subject she could discuss dispassionately...if such a subject even existed. So instead she found a chair and sat down on it backward, elbows resting on the back of the chair as she fixed her eyes on Vondar.

“If they’re getting smarter then we have to as well. Throwing soldiers we don’t have at them will make us lose every time because it doesn’t matter how well trained our men are when the enemy outnumbers us. But our Queen is a coward and our Warlord Prince seems to think that the best way to solve our problem is by clobbering it to death.” SHe said with a click of her tongue and a look that would have been better suited to having taken a bite of something foul.

But then her expression softened, “It’s not all on your shoulders, you know. I’m here for you if you need someone to bounce ideas off of.”

Somehow, my lady, I don’t think the wooden spoon is what’s making men beg for mercy.” Vondar said, flashing Fay a grin.

My sense of dignity is proof against flour. Don’t forget that I raised a Queen once upon a time. I baked for her. I won’t say that it was good. Or even edible. I’m just saying that the two of us can’t possibly be any worse than than either of us alone.” Vondar said, laughing at the idea of Fay being covered in flour, butter matting her hair. The imagine drew a guffaw from the Gray male, but he sensed the undercurrent of worry beneath the words. The blackouts had been severe during their prevalence. He would never want to be unsure of his own mind, so he took steps to avoid it.

Fayrain Avilor was a symbol of what he could have been, if the Purge had not spared him its wrath. She was also a reminder of what could be if Vondar forgot who he was. These monthly meetings were friendship for her. But her friendship was also motivation to keep himself from being judged unworthy, like she had been.

You know the problems we face. I know them, too. But our peers, especially the elders, they’re clinging to any sort of control over their world that they can find. They think that ignoring their problems or attacking the younger generations will help.” Vondar said.

And few of them will listen to me about anything. After all, I lost my wings. My opinions and ideas clearly have no merit.” he said, his tone bitter. He shifted in his seat and tried to rein in his feigned anger. He’d had centuries to perfect it, but sometimes he had to dig to give it just the right ring of simmering outrage to sell the notion.

I do have some ideas, Fay. I have several. But it would mean going against the Territory Court, or going around them. If I do that, and get caught? You can be that Drakkar Estaroth will happily have Kurov take control of the Province ‘for the good of the people’.” Vondar said, waving a hand to dismiss the legitimacy of that idea. He could just see Kurov showing  up with his men, that stupid, shit-eating grin on his face as he relieved Vondar of his position. Every interaction with him made Vondar want to break his neck.

But things are not good and they’re getting worse. I don’t think I’ll have the luxury of waiting much longer.” he said.

You didn’t come here to talk shop, though. Today is about you and I’m sorry that I got away from that.” Vondar said. “I think Lady Domera will be along soon. She’s working with another patient.” Vondar said, rising from his chair and heading to the bar for a drink of his own.

I talked to Sunnar the other day. He said that things are going really well with you and the Landen in Fell Valley. What’s that like? I mean, the Landen here keep to themselves unless I go looking for them. Even when I do...they’re pretty reluctant to talk with me.” Vondar said.

He looked to Fayrian.

Do you have any advice there? You make it look so easy. Maybe I should ask you to move here and handle my Landen outreach.” he said, laughing at the idea. She was too invested in her home and community to pick up and move. And Vondar wouldn't force that issue on her.

“You know, after all these years I still sometimes forget that you had to run around after a little girl for years. So alright, it’s a date. Next year we’ll attempt Windol cookies together, and when we fail we can at the very least lob cookie dough at each other until someone reminds us of our age.” She said, then took a sip of the wine she had poured for herself, rolling it over her tongue before swallowing. Her enjoyment of food had been one of the first joys to return to her and remained one of the only ones not affected by her Breaking, and Vondar had notoriously good taste in wine.

Her throat, however, constricted as he spoke of acting out against the Territory Court. It wasn’t that she didn’t agree with him that such action might be needed, it was that she worried for him. Fay had lost so many people she cared about, so many people she loved. The thought of one day losing him too made it hard to breathe.

“One day they’ll realize that the loss of your wings makes you not one ounce less dangerous than you were before. It’s idiotic that in a Territory that fought in a war for centuries still holds on to such foolish notions of purity.” They looked down on Fay too, for being a Jeweless Queen, and their pity made her angry. No, it made her furious!

A sigh and a nod accompanied the change of topic. “I won’t complain if it takes her a bit longer to get here. I admit my hours with you tend to be a bit more fun than the hours with her. She’s a bit of a grump.” Wanting to be a bit closer to one of the few males she still felt comfortable around, Fay got up and joined him on the small couch he had chosen to sit on, sitting cross-legged beside him and casually resting a hand on his knee.

“Thing have been going well, yes. Or as well as they can. They’re finally starting to look to me as a person instead of a Queen who can’t help them with Craft. We’ve been making some strides in irrigation and using fertilizers, but… They’re angry. More and more so. I think they’re right to be, too. We have been making decisions for them without any representation for generations beyond count as if they are children or somehow less than us, but they’re not. They’re just as intelligent and they care just as much.” She sighed, “honestly, my only advice is listen instead of speaking. They want to be heard more than they want anything else.”

Then her smile, which had vanished, returned. “You know I’ll never leave Fell Valley, but I would consider coming out for a few weeks now and then if you think it would help and if it means seeing your cranky ass more than once a month.”

I’ll make sure to work on my shielding now. The idea of throwing around dough or any food items just sounds dangerous.” Vondar said, matching her smile with his own. He watched her drink the wine and reminded himself that he’d need more soon. It would take some time to make contact with his supplier, but they had nothing but time ahead of them. The problems of the present day were not dire. There would be many nights, many talks, and much more wine to be had.

You have to forgive Lady Domera, Fay. She’s good at what she does. Highly decorated and well-recommended here in Living Lake. She’s been part of Starfall’s court for three centuries. But...she doesn’t get out much. She’s always got something going.” Vondar said, sipping his own drink as he watched the Queen before him. He sat down again and she joined, close enough that her scent carried to him. Vondar was male and not unaffected by the scent of Queen, enjoyable as it was. Combined with the hand on his knee, Vondar was deeply aware of Fay’s closeness. Pulling her into his lap sounded like a wonderful idea, though he didn’t act upon it.

Listen instead of speaking. I’ll remember that. Sometimes, it’s hard not to just tell them what’s best for them. I know it sounds terrible but...we were supposed to watch out for them. Now, with the Jhinka getting more aggressive, it’s hard not to just tell them how we survive it.” Vondar said. He rolled his neck, a hold over from his combat days, and heard it pop. Then he sat back in his chair and regarded her.

Cranky? The woman who wants to hit people with wooden spoons is calling me cranky? Lords and Ladies, I’ve heard it all.” Vondar said, laughing at her. He placed his free hand over her own, squeezing it gently.

Fay, I love it whenever you stop in. The only reason I haven’t asked before is...well, it’s stupid. I didn’t want to overwhelm you. Sunnar says you’re doing great. Lady Domera says you’re making strides that she hasn’t seen with so many others who’ve lost their jewels. Everyone says you’re doing so much better now than before.” Vondar said, looking into her eyes.

And here I am, still trying to protect you. Trying to make sure you don’t overtax yourself. You have people who want to do that for you. I’m overstepping but I can’t help myself.” he said, reaching out to push a lock of hair from her face. He sighed.

You’re right. I should get better at listening to people. If you feel up to it and you want to help, I’ll take all the help with the Landen that you can spare.” Vondar said.

Maybe you’ll help curb my tendency to ramble on, like I’m doing right now. But at the worst, you can flirt with me like you always do and we’ll drink and talk about how much Lady Domera needs to get out of the office more. And how much I need get out of the office more.” Vondar said.

Do we have a deal?

“I bet my aim with a ball of dough is better than yours.” She said, poking him in the ribs. “You boys might be better with stick and spears but you’ll never beat a lady’s aim with random household objects, especially mine.” Of course, she didn’t routinely throw things at people’s heads...anymore. There had been one decade -just one- right after she started feeling better, when she had maybe thrown one or two objects at anyone unfortunate enough to get close to her, including Vondar, but after several apologies and a bag of ice for his bruised head, she had done her best to curb the tendency. Now it was just an old joke.

“I owe Lady Domera everything, I tease only because I know you know I’m joking and not actually annoyed at her. She could pour a chamberpot on my head and I’d still kiss her. You saved my life when you found her for me, and I am grateful, truly.” She caught his eyes trailing over her once and squeezed his knee, a knowing twinkle in her eyes. They had not started out flirting, of course, but over time it was just another one of those things that happened. Like the wine and the bitching about the leadership of Askavi.

Her eyebrows rose as he admitted to just wanting to tell the Landen what to do, and she shook her head. “You and most of the Blood. You’re smart, V, but just like you’re excellent at running this region smoothly, the Landen are the best at knowing the ebb and flow of the land. I’m starting to think that even us Queens don’t get it the way they do. We bless the land but they tend it. All our food, or most of it, passes through their hands and it’s about time we recognize that as the power it is.”

At that pop in his neck, Fay rolled her eyes and muttered, “males. Go on, budge forward will you?” When he did, she squeezed herself behind him on the couch and dug her thumbs into the muscles of his neck. “Yes. Cranky. Cranky and stubborn and clearly not taking care of himself enough because these knots are the size of boulders. Actual boulders.” Fay continued working at those knots, pressing her elbow against one, particularly stubborn one.

“And on that topic, if you need the help of course I’ll come help you. You fucking saved my sanity. The only reason I’m doing as well as I am is that my brother though to bring me to you. How can you think that I wouldn’t want to assist you with whatever you need in return? Talking to Landen here instead of Fell Valley is hardly going to be ‘overtaxing’, and besides, if I’m here and something goes wrong, you can fuss over me yourself instead of having to trust others to do so. I know that drives you batty.”

Softening her touch, she rested her forehead against the back of his head. “I’ll run back to Fell Valley tomorrow and get a few more things, but yes. I think I can spare a few weeks and you can flirt with me to your heart’s content. Maybe I’ll even be nice and flirt back.”

And to make it clear that she would, she places a small kiss behind his ear before getting back to her battle against the knots in his neck.

Vondar could not help a small grin when Fayrian spoke of the depth of her gratitude to Lady Domera. The imagery in question left something to be desired, but it sent a thrill of satisfaction coursing through his body. She was a beautiful woman any day of the week, but she was even more beautiful when she was excited about something. He’d popped his neck and felt the small twinge of tension. He’d already resolved to talk to the High Healer about it when Fayrian was urging him forward on the couch. He mounted a weak protest, but scooted forward to let the Queen move into place behind him. Vondar leaned forward as she began, sighing as she worked on his knots.

She chided him for not taking care of himself, the same way that Imarian or Celebrian would have if they were here now.

He groaned as she used the point of her elbow to work through another knot. Discomfort, and a little pain, were followed by relaxation of his muscles. Her hands worked across and down the broad planes of his back, and then up to his neck, thumbs pressing against the base of his skull. Her nails grazed against his flesh, causing him to wonder what those nails would feel like on his scalp while his face was between her thighs.

I’m not cranky.” he murmured, relishing her continued attention to his knotted muscles. He definitely wanted her around more if she would do this regularly.

I don’t help people with the expectation that they’ll pay me back someday. I helped you because I had the resources. I helped because I saw that our people have a need and no one is filling it.” Vondar said, his voice stronger now. Every squeeze and press of her hands traced fire through his nerves and increasing his arousal and desire for her. He and Bree were far more inhibited, rarely waiting long after her arrival to tear into each other and make up for lost time. Fay was different and Vondar wanted to savor that difference as long as he could.

You're not ready for me to fuss over you.” he said.

She rested her forehead on the back of his neck. Vondar could see her face in his mind’s eye. He could see the way her wings twitched. He knew the muscles of her thighs were hard and from years of work and getting back into shape after her breaking. The spot where her forehead fell earned a soft sigh from Gray Steward.

I’ll run back to Fell Valley tomorrow and get a few more things, but yes. I think I can spare a few weeks and you can flirt with me to your heart’s content. Maybe I’ll even be nice and flirt back.

Vondar started to say something. Then Fay leaned in and kissed the spot just behind his ear and Vondar fell silent. He didn’t move.

Slowly, his left hand reached back to grasp Fayrian’s calf muscle, giving it a squeeze.

Keep that up and you'll be late for your appointment with Lady Domera.” he murmured, heart pounding as the spot where she placed that kiss tingled.

"We both know she hates waiting."

“You are definitely cranky. You define cranky, and you’re the only one who doesn’t see it. Ask your daughter if you don’t believe me.” Fay replied, jabbing her thumb into a knot to make her point, then smoothing over that same patch of skin. Sometimes -often, if she were honest- she wished she could still use her Touch, could still help soothe away the worries and stresses of others with nothing but a thought and some Craft. Now she had to use her hands, her words, her body. It was more honest, perhaps.

“And that makes you a good man, but I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t try to repay your kindness with some of my own. You’re not even asking for a personal favor, just help communicating with the Landen of Starfall. That’s something I would do even without your invitation and take pleasure in it. So you’ll let me help.” It was a command, but a playful one still. It was easy being playful with him. Her brother was too stoic and soldierly to be this much fun, and her remaining Bonded...too painful. That left this cranky asshole. Good thing she liked him.

Her eyebrows lifted at his claim that she was not ready for him to fuss over her. The sudden mental image of Vondar aggressively fussing made her chuckle. “Oh really? Now you’re just making me curious. How exactly is your fussing so superior and intense? Do you have special hot cocoa recipes? Particularly intense ways of tucking a witch into bed with a novel?” Each question was punctuated with another jab at a stubborn muscle, sometimes joined by a grunt of effort as she struggled to manhandle his stress back into line. When she stopped to lay that kiss against his skin though, she felt him still, growing tense. It made her tense in response, especially when his hand squeezed the muscle of her calf.

Keep that up and you'll be late for your appointment with Lady Domera. We both know she hates waiting.

Her breath caught, breasts pressing into his back, suddenly aware of the firm male body between her thighs.

Would it be so bad to keep the Mind Healer waiting? It had been centuries since her breaking. These visits were really more of an excuse to see Vondar most of the time, her hour with Lady Domera just a routine question and answer session. Maybe the woman deserved an unexpected hour off. She could take a walk, get some fresh air…

Vondar was a friend and it would be a lie if she said she had not considered asking him to bed before. There wasn't even a reason not to. Neither of them was or wanted to be in committed relationships, they were both in their primes, and he was very pleasing to the eyes. Really, the only reason she had never acted on it was habit, and if this visit was going to be longer already...

Almost without her mind’s consent, Fay’s fingers trailed down his neck, nails scraping the skin, and once more pressed her lips to his skin, then caught the lobe of his ear between her teeth.

“Think she’ll forgive me if I’m just a bit late?”

A novel? If I tuck you in to bed, Fay, the last thing I’m giving you is a book. I hate it when people try to multitask. It’s so fucking disrespectful. Besides, you’d read the damn book all night and forget to sleep. I know you, too, you know.” Vondar said, his tone a mix of chiding and disgust at the idea of letting her have a book in bed. Even if he could think of several uses for said book in the bedroom, all of them involved her focus being on something other than him.

Unacceptable on all counts.

Vondar expected her to back down. Vondar was no stranger to flirting but it seemed a waste, in the past, to bed a woman who couldn’t enjoy it. Before he’d worked with her, there were days that Fayrian Avilor could not distinguish the constructs of her mind from the real world. Her mind had grown stronger, more resilient in the centuries since the Purge and her desires had grown alongside them. Even more than being a Queen, she was a woman who craved touch, intimacy, and closeness. Since the loss of her jewels and her court, people treated her like she was made of glass, afraid of losing her to the Twisted Kingdom with the slightest mistake or denial. They refused to acknowledge how far she’d come because they could only see what she’d been.

She was the flower being watered yet denied nourishment.

Her breasts pressed against his back and suddenly there was too much fabric between them. His clothing, the softest wool he could find (which was really just a nice way of saying that it only scrubbed his skin raw every other day), was keeping him from exploring every inch of Fay’s skin with his mouth. And then there was still her fucking clothing to get through. Clothing annoyed Vondar in that moment and he was glad that he’d warded his office when she walked in.

She dragged her nails down his neck, leaving fire their wake. He lips pressed to his neck and he sighed, reaching up to grasp the back of her neck and massage her scalp while his fingers tangled in her hair. He used his right hand, letting his fingertips graze her scalp. She had no idea how close to death she stood and Vondar liked it that way.

She nipped his earlobe, then whispered in his ear, her breath warm on his skin.

Vondar was done playing with his food.

Get. Over. Here.” he growled, reaching back behind him to draw her around to his front. He would settle for having her on the couch, but he wanted her straddling him as he sat back on the couch. If she complied, his hands moved to her hips, then her ass, which Vondar squeezed hard, digging his fingertips into her flesh once more. His cock felt like it was made of stone, hard as she’d made him with her efforts thus far.

"If you're gonna be late, it's better not to show up. Tell you had to meet with the Steward about Province business. She'll understand..."

He almost gave her a chance to back down, but something in his mind snarled fuck that. She challenged him. She could deal with the consequences. Vondar pulled Fay into a kiss, claiming her mouth with his. She wouldn’t be able to hear him or respond to him if he reached out to her on a thread. Annoying, but no matter.

Anything he wanted to hear from her was better screamed, anyway.

Fay enjoyed bedroom -or any room where sex happened, beds weren’t exactly mandatory or even preferred- games. She always had. She and her late husband had been creative and passionate in their enjoyment of each other, and it annoyed her to no end how every lover she’d taken since him just… didn’t compare. They treated her like a Lady, more so because they pitied the lack of Jewels or Court.

Vondar wouldn’t be like that. He knew the steel in her soul and from years of flirting with him she had a pretty good notion of the range of activities he enjoyed.

So why not have some fun with her friend? Neither would regret it, or expect anything from each other, or get clingy. Really, she should have tried this ages ago.

His three-word order made her laugh and squeeze out from behind him, one whing flaring to keep her balance as Fay swung her leg over his lap and straddled him, hips rolling against his as she did so. The hard bulge that met her there made her smile grow wider, a promise of a very, very good time.

“So kind of the Steward to agree to a meeting on such short notice.” She replied, running her fingers over his brow before letting him pull her into a hard kiss. Her ass rocked back into his hands, into the stinging pressure of his fingers through the sturdy material of her trousers. That seemed… not ideal. No, and his clothes really wouldn’t do either. She hated wool, always had, and if he got her naked before she could get his shirts off, then it would be right against her nipples. Nope. That would not do.

Yanking her head back for a single moment, she snarled, “clothes are terrible. Get rid of all of them, please.” THen she got back to the business of exploring his mouth with her tongue as her hands did the same to his body. For as much of a nerd as Vondar was, there were some wonderful muscles there, the same ones she had been rubbing earlier, but as he complied to her request and both of their clothes suddenly disappeared, it was his warm skin that she was caressing, instead of cloth. Fay groaned at the sensation, even as her nipples puckered at the chill in the air. Her wings flared in pleasure as she rocked her hips forward again, letting him feel the growing wetness between her legs.

Letting go of his lips with reluctance, Fayrian pulled her head back and flipped her long black hair out of the way behind her shoulders, and grinning at her now naked friend. “Sure you don’t want me to call in that wooden spoon, V?” She teased, “though maybe we don’t need it. I’m sure both of us will be considerably less cranky after a good hard fuck.”

That Steward, he’s such a good man. Make sure you thank him for being so generous with his time tonight.” he said, returning the kiss as she straddled him. Her trousers kept his hands from her skin. He vanished those, and her underclothes as well. Then he vanished her top and his own, followed by his trousers. Now that he could feel her cunt rubbing against the silken skin of his shaft, Vondar was hard as stone. Their kissed deepened, but the feel of her nipples against his chest caused a hungry snarl to erupt from his lips.

His mouth moved away from hers, kissing down, down, down her throat until he reached her breasts. His left hand massaged her right breast while right hand captured her left breast. His mouth fixed upon that puckered nipple. Vondar swirled his tongue around Fay’s nipple, noting how it made her wings flare. She rocked against him and Vondar focused his attention on the other nipple, sucking hard and deep before pulling her down into another kiss. He bit her lip before drawing back to look at her naked form, as if seeing her for the first time.

Forget the fucking spoon. I hope you stay cranky for awhile. Gonna make sure that this session is extremely productive...”

He reached down to grasp his cock, aligning himself so that her slick slit was positioned over the cap of his cock. The idea of Fay looking up at him while sucking his cock was appealing, but he’d wanted to spear her for a long time now. He saw no need to wait. He lowered her, letting Fay guide him inside her. She slid down his shaft, slowly at first, but eventually he was sheathed inside her in full, drawing a deep groan from him.

Go slowly. I want to watch you cum for me.” Vondar said, capturing her lips in another kiss.

“I’ll send him a fucking fruit basket.” Fay muttered, between kisses. A gasp tore from her throat as he vanished their clothes, one article at a time until there was nothing at all between them. His skin was smooth and warm over hard muscles. Fayrian’s fingers slid down his chest and over his abs, finger wrapping around his cock as the tilted her head back and arched into the attention he was giving her breasts. “Oh, fuck yes. Do that with your tongue again. Mhmm… just like that.”

She rocked forward, the wetness pooling between her legs coating his shaft. He was large easily larger than any man she’d been with since her Breaking and possibly ever. That made a shiver of delight zing down her spine as her wings flared, black as night. His hand slid between them to align his tip with her entrance and she pushed down to meet him enthusiastically, glad that Vondar wasn’t wasting any time. Not that she minded foreplay. Foreplay was excellent, it was just that they had two centuries of flirting and dancing on this line and the first time she came for him Fay wanted it to be while quivering around his cock.

There was a moment of discomfort bordering on pain as her body adjusted to his girth, a low moan as his tip hit her cervix, as deep as he could be in her, then she lifted her hips and sank down again, and again. Slow, he instructed. Fay didn’t want to go slow. She wanted to fuck his brains out, but acquiescing to his requests seemed like a good idea, especially if it meant she got to enjoy him longer. With another soft moan, she sat back, bracing one hand on his knee and wrapping the other around the back of his neck as she rocked against him, eyes fixed on his. Her lips parted, pants, then moan passing between them as he filled her again and again, each undulation of her body taking her one step closer to showing him what he had asked for.

There was nothing shy about how she moved. Sex was a natural part of being a Queen and one of the ones that had not been lost along with her Jewels. Her body sang, skin glistening as she began to sweat with her exertion, smile spreading over her face as she let her head roll back a bit, black hair cascading down her back. Her moans grew louder as she increased the force, even if not the speed, of her movements. Fay drove down onto him, nails now digging into the back of his neck, wings furling and unfurling as desire curled tighter within her. As she felt herself nearing that delicious precipice, her eyes once more fixed no those of her friend. “Watch me, then.” She said, then tossed her head back and cried out in delight the orgasm that had been so perfectly brewing tore through her, inner walls rippling around his hard length.

Eyrien women had a savage beauty that Vondar found hard to deny. Fay’s wings flared as he speared her and Vondar allowed himself a slight smirk. That smirk became a low moan as he slid into that tightness, stretching the broken Queen around his cock the way he’d wanted to decades ago. She rose up and then sank down, over and over, following his instructions. Vondar liked that she could take direction. Celebrian wasn’t difficult to coach at all, but some Queens got it in their heads that they actually ran shit, rather than being allowed to rule. Perhaps if Fay had her jewels, she’d be harder to manage. Vondar was glad that she didn’t.

She moved harder and faster, nails digging into his back. Vondar hissed but didn’t stop her. The pain was a slight annoyance, but he forgave her between her moans and the way that she drove herself down onto him like a woman possessed. The wave of Seduction Craft he unfurled from his Gray wasn’t subtle; the Black Widow Prince heightened every sensation for her, parting her barriers so that he could fill the dark spaces and cracks in her mind with nothing but him. Vondar didn’t just want Fay’s cunt, as good as it felt around his spear. He didn’t want just her her body, lovely as her breasts looked when they bounced for him.

He wanted to own her mind, to know that when she thought about tonight a week, a month, a year from now that she’d want only to submit to him, just to recapture the way it felt to belong to someone and set aside all of the nagging concerns of a world that considered her less for the loss of her jewels.

She came around his cock, her inner walls attempting to milk him of his seed and bring him over the edge with her. Her orgasm reverberated in his mind and his ears, but Vondar wasn’t dragged over the precipice so easily.

Forget the fruit basket. Suck his cock. He’ll enjoy it more.” he said between breaths. He lifted her off of him, bending her over the arm of his couch. Vondar pushed her hair aside to expose the back of her neck. He leaned down and captured the skin there between his teeth, biting briefly. The bite faded, and he kissed his way from the back of her neck and down her spine. He gave extra attention to the space between her wings, pausing briefly to see how she reacted. Then he moved own, kissing his way all the way down to the base of her spine. He stood behind her, grasping his thick shaft to make the head of his cock swell. He pushed that engorged head into her slit, burying himself inside Fayrian once more.

He didn’t wait. He grasped those slim hips drilled Fayrian hard, wanting to feel her come apart around his cock once more before he fired his load into her. His thumb pushed into her the tight star of her ass. He groaned as he felt himself hitting the end of her over and over again.

Should have...fucked you ages ago…” he growled between slaps of his flesh against hers and wondering how many times he could take her tonight, and over the course of her stay.

Fay had enjoyed sex from way before her Virgin Night. She had enjoyed it alone, with a partner’s hand or face between her legs, with males, very occasionally with females, on pretty much any available surface and at any time of day. She wasn’t shy, or meek in her desires. She she didn’t try to quiet her moans as she came around Vondar’s thick spear, not her wanton snarls of irritation as he pulled her off of him before she could claim the prize of his release. She wanted that victory, wanted to watch her friend who was always in control and sure of himself fall to pieces because of the sensations Fay produced.

But if the byproduct of her failure was that they could keep going, then she supposed it counted as a good thing after all.

Fucking Mother Night’s pendulous tits, Vondar’s spear felt good. Thick and long and piercing her at this new angle even deeper than it had been before. Her wings extended as his lips played with the skin at their base, a shudder running through the broken Queen from head to toes and back as her inner walls trembled. Was she really going to cum again already? What kind of magic cock did this man have? He should market that! They could probably feed all of Askavi off of the sales of ‘an hour’s bounce’n’moan’!

Well, curse herself for a fool for not having indulged long, long before now.

It was as if he could read her mind, knowing just where and when to touch to get the most heightened feelings of pleasure she had ever felt. Occasional prompts of ‘faster’ or ‘more’ were interspersed between the grunts of pleasure and exertion that punctuated each thrust forward of Vondar’s and matching thrust back of Fay’s, their skin slapping where it met. She reached up to brace herself on the back of the couch, getting on tiptoes for better leverage as she slammed her hips back towards him with as much enthusiasm as he was showing her. This was how sex should be: loud, unapologetic, intense. None of that tiptoeing around and checking to see if Fay was ‘doing alright’.

If a partner couldn’t tell she was having fun, it probably meant they weren’t providing any.

"We'll just have to make up for lost time now."

It didn’t take long, as predicted, to get close to bursting again. This time though, she was determined to milk Vondar dry with her climax. She squeezed around him,  using Craft, the little that remained to her, to give her just a little extra burst of strength and endurance to impale herself onto him to the very hilt, his balls slamming against her clit with enough force to send her howling over the edge.

Fuck yes.

Vondar loved learning Fayrian’s body, loved doing the things he’d only imagined in the past. One hand slipped between her thighs as she plowed into her, rubbing her clit. He wanted to coax another climax from her, wanted to feel the temperature of her body rise and fall. Her eagerness and ability to let go ensured that Vondar would take her again before their time together ended. In fact, he would take her again before long, but there was much more to d before all was said and done. Not to mention that the way her cunt milked every inch of his cock made him want to fire his seed deep inside her, ensuring that she’d feel him every time she moved.

You feel so fucking good, Fay....” Vondar growled, each time her ass slammed back against him. His hand rose and fell, slapping her ass. He should have bent her over the desk. But then she would have ruined his books. Vondar couldn’t have her fucking up his books. Friend or not, lover or not, Vondar didn’t like his belongings touched. The thought of Fay misplacing one of his books made him angry, and he visited his displeasure on her cunt, slowing his thrusts. He slammed hard intto her and remained there, unmoving, before slowing drawing back and doing so. Vondar did this several times, over and over, until he felt himself getting closer to his climax.

One more thrust and hold brought him over the edge. “FUCK!

His seed fired from him like a bolt. Vondar came hard, his eyes rolling back as he tried to live in that moment, that sensation for as long as he dared. His body went taut so long that his calf cramped. He stepped back and collapsed against the couch, panting loudly as he tried to catch his breath. His cock twitched and he looked at Fayrian and she turned to sit beside him.

That...we’re doing...again. We’re gonna...again…” he said, hoping that she was smart enough to get the message. Eyrien women could be stupid as fuck if things weren’t spelled out for them, but they were still leagues smarter than Eyrien men.

Damn, woman. Why did we wait so long to do that?” he asked.

Fay pulled herself onto the couch and sprawled in the aftermath. Flying fuck, that had been excellent. She smiled up at Vonder as he jabbered, enjoying having rendered him near speechless. It was about time.

“Yes, we are definitly doing that again. Lots, if I have my way. You’re far too much fun to fuck to ever go back to just talking with clothes on. What were we thinking?” She stretched, lounging as the thrill of the orgasm faded and the slightly sore, lady, boneless relaxation one only felt after a really good round continued to warm her. She patted the sofa next to her and when he at last joined her she curled up against him, enjoying the way his skin was sweat-slicked and how they both smelled of desire.

“That was by far the most enjoyable few minutes I’ve had in the last two centuries. Makes me want to practice lots and see just how good it can be once we really hit a groove.” Fucking someone for the first time was never the ‘best’ sex one would have with that person. Sometimes it was the most exciting, but it always got better with more experience and Fay… Fay was a perfectionist at this particular game. He had still been able to make words at the end, garbled as they may have been. She could do better. She WOULD do better.

Maybe even this evening.

“I think we’re both at fault for the waiting-thing, V. I’m betting the rattling bits of crazy in my head were at least part of the reason, but I think even at my worst I probably would have enjoyed that. You’re just too good a person. You’ve taken such good care of me over the years, but I’m glad we’re here now. I like being your friend much more than your responsibility.”
