Distinguishing Features:
Tanith is almost never seen without flowers in her hair, as if the flowers grow therein. Due to this she carries the scent of the forest wherever she goes and leaves quite the impression on those who meet her. There’s also the matter of the giant white bear that is usually in her wake and she is rarely seen far from.
Personality

Personality:
Playful and loyal, Tanith is full of life and energy. She is always on the move, never wanting to linger in one spot for too long. This may make her seem like she is easily distracted but that is not the case. Often she tends to laser focus on what her current interest is, pursuing it until everything that she needs and wants has been achieved. Even her seemingly flitting attention span itself is just a need to take in everything around her.

The Darkness is her guide as a Priestess, trusting it implicitly where she cannot always afford trust to others. She is most likely found looking after the old forgotten altars in the forests, tending to them and making sure that they are maintained. There are those that would follow the old way of things who visit them and without her upkeep of such places how else would those of Rih commune and speak with the All-Mother? Making sure that people are able to follow the old ways, to guide them in such practices, is something close and dear to her heart.

While she is not quick to pull people into a trusted capacity with her, she is open and friendly to all - even Eyriens - and gives most a chance before she cuts them off from her and her faith. It is only after they have proven themselves to her that she truly begins to let them in and know the passionate young woman that is underneath. Tactile, loving of those close to her, Tanith wants the best for everyone as much as she wants it for herself.

Sometimes there are worries that she is off-putting, that her strong personality will push people away, but she has a natural charm that brings people close despite the fact that there’s almost always a ten foot bear not that far away from her. Tanith will tell you, if one comes close enough, that it’s better to be scared of her than the bear.

She is the one that has a wicked bite but only if you ask. This has especially become true in the past two years since she discovered her bond as a Godi Priestess and adapted to sharing the feelings of her bonded companion. Tanith is more than just a wild child of the forest. Sometimes she is downright aggressive and territorial like the kermode bear she is bonded to. She's become extremely protective of that which is hers and will often go to great lengths to make sure it is safe and secure before resting. Saying that she's something of a bear when one is trying to wake her is also not terribly far from the truth. While aware of these traits, she does not truly try to curb them. Not when they represent everything she's ever believed in and mark her as one of the Godar.
Likes:
  • Nature - The forests call to Tanith as nothing else does. Out and about, traveling the forgotten trails and places, within nature the Priestess feels the most at ease. It is not just the trees but the animals as well, her soul soothed in ways that she cannot explain. With such an affinity for nature there is no one else you would want to lead you through the uncharted places of Rihland. Never mind that finding her once she is in the forest is not an easy feat as she has long since learned how to hide herself within nature’s embrace.
  • Being Self-Sufficient - While her family is there for her, able to provide what she needs, Tanith prides herself on the fact that she is able to look after herself and has since she was young (mostly because she had pushed and pushed to be able to do so). She enjoys helping others learn how to be this way as well because if one know how to look out for themselves then they are in a better place to help others.
  • Jerbear - A giant kermode bear, also known as spirit bear, that is an off-white color. He is always with her and has been since he was a cub. Tanith found him when she was younger, curled up against his mother’s dead body after she had succumbed to wounds from a trap. Tending to him, nursing him back to health, they were inseparable once he recovered. Jerbear is also her bonded animal companion as a Godar, her command and control of him absolute. Tanith looks after him as if he were her child but he is also a trusted partner and she gets quickly agitated if anyone decides to look at him strangely. If you don’t like the fact that she rides into town on a giant bear maybe you should not have invited her. He also bears a cut of her Blood Opal, clipped onto his ear within an ear cuff on his left ear.
Dislikes:
  • Heavily Populated Areas - With her affinity for nature Tanith finds it hard to navigate the growing cities of Rihland. More than that she finds them overwhelming sometimes, preferring the quieter villages and towns that her people call home. She knows growth is expected, that busy streets will become the norm, but she prefers they would not. The only time she is alright with large gatherings of people is when it is time for the moots but that’s because they celebrate everything that it means to be a Rihlander.
  • Wearing Shoes - Can she not? Every time she wears shoes she feels as if she is disconnecting herself from the ground beneath her feet, the earth that she cares for so much. Even her well-worn and broken in boots are only put on when she has too. Shoes can leave trails behind, letting one know that someone made passage through an area, and she has no desire for that. Also she really likes curling her toes in fresh soil and you can’t do that with shoes on.
  • Trappers - Tanith is perfectly alright with those who hunt, after all Kibeth is a hunter and she adores her, she is not alright with those who set traps. Mostly because that means that the animals that are caught must suffer until they are found and put down. Clean kills are a must with Tanith, respect given to the life now gone, and she finds that there is no such thing with those who trap.
Fears:
  • Loss of Family - It’s happened before, it could happen again, and Tanith fears that one day another will die. Loss and death has touched her life - and whose has it not? - and she wishes it would not. The idea that Tyr, Kibeth, Melany, Jerbear, or even her father could be lost to her is one she does not want to consider. It is why she does everything she can to make sure that those she cares for are safe and taken care of, even if that means annoying them
  • Imprisonment - More than death, Tanith fears if she was captured and imprisoned. The idea of being trapped, contained within a place, is one that is singularly terrifying for someone who has lived their life within the entirety of nature. To that end she also has something of a fear of enclosed spaces, panic sometimes kicking in until she calms herself down and rationalizes that, yes, there is a way out right there and no one is trying to contain her.
  • Not Meeting Expectations - She is young, not even to her twenty-first year yet. Tanith is a true Rihlander Priestess who will one day help lead and rally the people to Rihlander Queens. There is a weight upon her shoulders, some of which is self-imposed, and she fears that somehow she will not be what is needed or good enough to accomplish what needs to be done. This makes her push herself beyond her limits sometimes and is dangerous in its own right. Tanith is at least aware of the flaw and does her best to monitor herself for such behavior but sometimes there is little to be done when you always want to not just meet expectations but exceed them.
Craft Strengths:
  • Connecting With the Darkness - Within the Darkness there is nothing to fear and everything to learn. The Darkness speaks to Tanith and guides her hand, whispering to her the secrets of those who also have standing within it. With such a strong connection to the Darkness Tanith finds it easy to assist others even without a need for Communion. For her the Darkness is home and she will help others learn this, guiding them by hand and leading.
  • Ceremonial & Ritual Craft - More than just a follower of the old ways of Rihlander Priestesses, Tanith has skill with many forgotten rituals of her people. Most importantly she is capable of performing the Animal Pair-Bond rite of the Godar, of which she is herself, and bonded to a kermode bear. This ritual enables Tanith to create a bond between Jeweled Blood and an animal companion. The bond enables the Blood individual an uncanny control and sway over their bonded animal. The rite is necessary to become part of the Godar, a group of individuals that are dedicated Queens Guard in service to the true Queens of Rihland.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Vanishing & Conjuring - Most might think that she just does not have much but the truth is that Tanith is not that great at storing things away within her psychic cabinet. She can, at best, store maybe a few pounds worth of things. Basically she only keeps what is absolutely necessary in there and everything else she will carry on her. Never mind that sometimes, just sometimes, things don't come back out. Then there was the incident of a stuffed animal from when she was ten popping back out instead of the knife she tucked away for an emergency.
  • Death Spells - With an affinity for life Tanith has trouble with anything related to death craft. It’s not that she isn’t capable but for her it takes nearly double the power and use of her jewels to cast. With that the case, she isn’t likely to use anything related to that type of craft unless she has no other choice.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Eir Asasdottir (d. 178AP) - Hearth Witch - White to Yellow
Second-Mother Melany Kriemhild (36 - b. 158AP) - Witch - Summer Sky to Blood Opal
Father: Johannes Gudbrandson (50 - b. 144AP) - Prince - Purple Dusk to Sapphire
Second-Father: Tyraz Madsen (68 - b. 126AP) - Warlord - White to Tiger’s Eye
Cousin Asgeir Tyrsen (35 - b. 159AP) - Prince - Rose to Purple Dusk
Cousin: Kibeth Tyrsdottir, called "Mistborn” (26 - b. 168AP) - Queen - Rose to Opal
Mentor: Agda Eddasdottir (d. 190) - Priestess - Tiger’s Eye to Rose

History:
No one expected Tanith, least of all her parents. When Eir’s magic began to ache she knew the unexpected Rut that had taken her friend Johannes by surprise had lead to a little life. The talks were many between the Hearth Witch and Prince but ultimately the child was kept. Eight months later Tanith was born, her Priestess caste clinging to her and apparent with her first cries of life.

While beloved by both of her parents, it was with Eir that Tanith stayed and was raised by. Her father came and visited but his work kept him busy. (Truthfully she would not learn what his work was until years later.) Eir was a follower of the old ways, teaching her daughter to follow the All-Mother and having her help in the little ways she could as a growing toddler. Even young as she was Tanith was incredibly attentive and intelligent, taking it all in and writing it upon her heart to always remember.

It was in 178 that tragedy befell Tanith and her family. Taken to her first moot, the young Priestess remembers one thing the most: meeting her Queen and cousin Kibeth Mistborn. That singular moment is engraved upon her very being and is something to never be forgotten just like the tragedy that came not even hours later. Eyriens had been alerted to the moot and began raiding it.

Tanith tried to cling to Kibeth, to stay with her and protect her - in the foolish way of children - but was ultimately sent away. Kibeth had a jewel, told the Priestess as such, and she had none. If Tanith died then how could she stay with her? It was with sorrow in her heart, pain in doing so, that she ran away. Eventually she was found by a Prince, one that would take her to her father after another horrifying discovery was made: her mother had been killed trying to keep others safe.

It was only after she was with her father, tired from all the tears shed, that she heard him speaking quietly with others about what else had happened. Her uncle Tyr had broken his Tiger Eye and - worst of all - Kibeth had been taken away by the Eyriens. The ache that settled within her was one a child was not truly meant to bear but she did and grew quiet for some time because of it.

In the aftermath of all this sorrow Johannes decided that he would take in his daughter, to make a life for her. For the next two years she lived with him, having become a quiet and somber child, and could not be pulled from her shell no matter how much he tried. Things changed for her again when - thinking of her cousin - she came away from her Birthright with a Rose. It was here that her uncle Tyr was named her Second-Father and trusted frenemy Melany Kriemhild was named Second-Mother.

After her Birthright, knowing that it would be too dangerous to keep a Rose with him and continue his work, Johannes took Tanith to his brother Tyr. With it in mind that she was a Priestess and hoping that it would turn her back into the bright wildling child he knew her to be, Tyr reached out to an old Priestess friend of his for her to stay with.

It was with Agda Eddasdottir that the bright wildling child Tanith was meant to be came back out. Tyr had known, without a doubt, that were he to put her on the path to learning the things her mother Eir had held close to her heart Tanith would do well. For the next several years the young Priestess learned everything that she could of the old ways from Agda. The aging Priestess was one of the last that knew some Rihlander rituals and ceremonies and each one that Tanith learned was committed to memory in hopes that one day they would be more easily practiced.

Sometime after she was fourteen, Tanith was within the forests where she discovered the cold dead body of a giant bear. There should have been fear in her, after all where there is one there is more, but instead she was drawn to it because someone had not followed the proper way of things. She was in the process of performing rites to respectfully put the beast to rest when she noticed that there was a small lump of white fur curled against the body.

It was the cub of the dead mother, fur white instead of the black it should have been. Not even thinking there would be anything wrong with it she picked up the cub and brought him home with her after laying the mother to rest. Agda was not exactly pleased that Tanith had brought home, of all things, a bear but there was little to be done when she thought it was a sign from the All-Mother.

Tanith nursed and tended to the cub, looking after him as if he was her own child and whispering to him all the things she learned as a Priestess. When it came time to release him back to the forest, to send him back, he would not go. Despite having left him in the middle of the forest he always showed back up the next morning curled up with her. It was then that Tanith simply decided to keep him.

Recognizing the connection between Tanith and her bear - that she named Jerbear for some unknown reason - Agda began telling the younger Priestess of the Godar. Those who were Rihlanders and had a bond with an animal companion. The rite, she was told, was lost to time but they had existed once upon a time. Godar once served as the most trusted guard of Queens. Not only their eyes and ears within the territory where the Queens could not go but also a force to be reckoned with upon the battlefield.

It was the stuff of dreams to Tanith, the very thing that she wanted to be able to do because then - just maybe - she would be able to do something like rescue Kibeth from the Eyriens. Not long before her Offering (and not long after her Virgin Night) Agda passed from this world and left the young Priestess everything that she had. It was just another death that weighed her down and in the time that followed she was more of a sight at her uncle’s home (though she was something of a terror for young Erwin who was unnerved by the giant bear that lumbered behind here).

Something began to hum under her skin, a whisper in the Darkness she was so close to, and Tanith followed it. In the dark of the night, secluded in the forest, she performed her own Offering. The Darkness greeted her and she walked into the waters of it unafraid and sure of herself. For her the Abyss within was nothing to be scared of and it was there that she found something waiting.

A bond, glittering and bright, that connected her bear to her. Tanith would not be able to tell one how long she spent studying it, spiritual fingers running along it, but when she came back from the well of power within herself it was not just the Blood Opal that she walked away with. Jerbear was more than just a pet, he was a trusted animal companion that was hers to command.

More than that: the knowledge of how to help others follow this path was known to her. In finding her own bond, she had gleaned the way to lead others to the same path. The Godar would no longer be a tale told around a fire but something real and tangible. Not long after this was when the Black wreaked havoc upon the Eyriens - as they deserved - and, what truly mattered, Kibeth came home.

Whispers have grown over the past two years about Tanith, though her name is never mentioned. Stories about a Priestess with a bear companion that is seen within the northernmost parts of Rihland. A bear that seems to obey unspoken commands and sometimes seems to be watching people even when she is not near. Tanith herself does not comment on such stories and merely smiles when people talk about such things.

The old ways, she tells them kindly, are coming back.

Character in Play:
Darkness surrounded her, blanketed her in it’s embrace, and she knew no fear only elation. Tanith could feel it tugging upon her, a gentle guiding hand that was drawing her attention towards something.

What was it that it wanted her to see? The whispers were too excited, too fast for her to catch everything. So she simply followed and let them lead her to the place deep within that they wanted her to go. She knew it the moment that she found it that this was what she was meant to see.

Something that glittered darkly and spoke to her though no words were said. It took only a moment for her to realize that it was connected to her, threads of her woven tightly around it and cradling it in the embrace of her own Craft. She reached out a hand, though she had no true form here, and felt it.

A gasp escaped, one that actually came from her physical form, as she truly began to understand what was before her. It was a bond, one that was unlike all the others she knew of that could be. This was a bond of control, a bond that strengthened another through her own Craft. It was the bond of a Godar to their animal companion and it was within her.

It had sparked to life the moment she had dove into the Abyss to reach for the Blood Opal that she knew laid in wait. Tanith was enraptured with it, the Darkness whispering to her still as she studied it. This, she knew, was the stuff of legends.

Legends she was going to make real.
