Distinguishing Features: Dark curly hair that turns redder with sunlight, light grey eyes, with a smattering of freckles along his shoulders. Also glasses. They're a thing.

Personality

Personality:
Killian presents him as a Scholar first and foremost, a man who left Rihland for Dhemlan and the University of Salamanca to learn as much as possible before he returned home a better, and far more capable, Prince who would be able to serve his homeland. Those who are not close are presented with this reserved front, a man who only occasionally smiles and looks at upon those unknown with a critical eye.

The truth of the matter is that adventure is close to his heart. Killian loves to bury himself in history and culture, to explore the furthest reaches of Rihland and see what can be found. Where there's a momentary panic that can sometimes happen when things briefly go haywire, he quickly adapts and reacts. Flight or fight frequently turns to fight with the on the fly strategic planning of a Green Jeweled Prince behind it. Thankfully, there's only been one or two incidents of Melany, Ryder and Killian having to fix certain instances of his use of telekinesis in an unexpected surprise.

He is quick to make an opinion of those he meets, those who have talent and potential and those who have wasted it. It lets him pick out those who would work best for their cause or would be a bane to it.

Beyond the Reclaimers, to which he wholly devoted (never mind to Melany herself), Killian presents himself as a man who is loyal to the Queen of Belaya and her cause. Whatever apprehension he has of Eyriens is kept in check because he has to work with them and it would never work out. Everyone, in his opinion, has a purpose - even if they're wasted talent - he merely has to figure it out.

Not that Killian is not a warm, charming individual because he is. In a relaxed setting he is attentive and witty, able to relax out of that stuffy professor kind of personality he can take up at Court. He’s only able to let go around those he truly trusts - mostly the Reclaimers - and have his true face show.

The man is all smiles and easy laughter, sharing stories just as much as anyone else and looking to help shape and bring Rihland back to what it once was. This is who he truly is, someone who is wholly and utterly dedicated to seeing Rihland and it’s people becoming what was once lost.

Likes:
  • Teaching - Killian tries to avoid not coming across as the stuffy professor type but sometimes he does. If you’re lucky, you’ll trigger him into a different sort of teaching mode when he talks about the various subjects he favors. It’s in moments like this that you can see Killian for the man he truly is, someone who is enamored with learning and sharing the knowledge with others. Warm, alive, and present within the conversation - not so reserved - this is Killian at his best.
  • Brewing - With the lessening of the Prohibitions, this means that Killian has slipped back into habits that he grew into back in Dhemlan. While he does brew healing tonics and assorted things, he also enjoys making various types of drinks, alcoholic or otherwise. With Mia’s stance on things, however, this is very much behind closed doors.
  • Music - Specifically guitar and more specifically traditional Rihlander songs and music. It’s not uncommon for Killian to take up the guitar and start playing during a moot, a steady beat played out to the stories that are told and shared. Beyond that he enjoys playing when he is trying to gather his thoughts or take a moment to breathe because this entire double life can get a bit much.
Dislikes:
  • Meddling - Stay. Out. Of. His. Work. No, seriously, stay out of it. Killian is not the kind of man who wants someone meddling in his affairs or his operations or his brewing. He would much rather have something take double the time than run the risk of someone else coming in and ruining his well laid plans. Not that he won’t adapt if someone like Melany says things need to change up but that’s Melany and not some idiot that just shows up.
  • Subjugation - Killian has no desire to be chained, either by a Queen’s Bond, within actual chains, slavery, the rule of a ruler who distantly oversees, or otherwise. There’s too much that can be lost when one’s will is subverted by another’s. People change while in captivity (whether they realize they are captive or not), he’s seen it first hand and read extensively about it. It’s something he doesn’t approve of and is, perhaps, the only thing that makes him pause when it comes to Eyriens but then again: they just want them to get out.
  • Willful Ignorance -There is nothing worst than those that willingly let themselves exist in their ignorance. People who do not reach out and learn what they can, who do not seize opportunities that are before them, are completely annoying to him. What point is there in being part of this world, of being part of your land, if you do not do something to learn about what is around you? Are you content to be part of the flock or a shepherd? If you are part of the flock there’s purpose for you still but from Killian’s perspective you are just wasted potential.
Fears:
  • Complete Loss of Rihlander Culture - It’s bad enough that his parents are Eyrien Sympathizers but worse that they both have basically forsaken what is part of who they are. Their Rihlander culture is something they seem to be ashamed of versus proud of (and never mind that they apparently misunderstood Eyrien naming conventions but that’s neither here nor there). It’s lead to Killian being nearly obsessed with Rihlander history and culture. Above all else, he fears that what exists in the minds of what few Skalds remain as well as the Reclaimers agents will ultimately be lost and they will never have a hope of seeing their culture returning to what it was. He’s already seen his parents forsake and burn Rihlander secrets and expects there are others just like them.
  • Complete Blindness - It’s no secret that Killian’s vision is not that great. He cannot, in fact, see well at all without either glasses or using craft to enhance his sight. While he’s managed it so far, for so many years, he fears natural degeneration occurring that would entirely strip him of his sight and leave him truly blind. Moreso because of the fact that there were, once upon a time, methods known to the Rihlander Healers that might treat such a thing and they’ve been lost to both time and destruction of their culture.
  • Being Discovered - Killian should probably fear Kalvar but he doesn’t. Instead he fears behind found out as a double agent within the Belaya Court and what that might do for both the Reclaimers and the history that potentially could be lost. It makes him extremely wary of those who approach him sometimes and not always the most trusting individual. Anyone unknown to him is potentially someone who could prove to be his downfall. On the other hand, this makes him extremely loyal to those who are proven Reclaimers and to Melany herself. Where others cannot be trusted, the Reclaimers can be.
Craft Strengths:
  • Healing Tonics - Despite what his mother attempted to do, to destroy the family books that documented Rihlander Healer knowledge, Killian managed to save some of the pages. They are, in fact, some of his most prized possessions and kept tightly locked away. They’ve enabled him to learn a handful of recipes tied to the Healers of Rihland and he’s quite proficient in making them.
  • Enhanced Mind Barriers - What started as a way to mentally keep things organized turned into something more. From meeting with Melany Kriemhild, he learned more techniques to protect and keep people out of his head. It’s not just because there’s Rihlander culture and secrets tucked away in his head but also information about the Reclaimers. Suffice to say, messing around in Killian’s head may not go well for most because he will act back swiftly and with great force if you try to step within his mind uninvited.
Craft Weaknesses:
  • Fine Telekinetic Craft - While Killian is quite capable of the telekinetic ability of Jewelless blood, he finds himself struggling when it comes to the finer control and lifting far heavier objects. He can pull something to himself but it will never be with the finesse or capability that he should have of the darker jewels he wears.
  • Manipulating Shadows - The shadows do not respond to him as they should. Instead they barely react when he tugs upon them. Why this is, he’s no idea, but he’s never had any interest in that particular craft or figuring out why they don’t react as they should.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Freyja Ibsen (67 - 127AP) - Healer - Rose to Purple Dusk
Father: Albin Ibsen (61 - 133AP) - Warlord - Yellow to Rose

Ciaran Vahn (504 - 310BP) - Prince - Rose to Purple Dusk (long-lived; Dhemlanese; adoptable)
Linnea Eklund (36 - b. 158AP) - Healer - Summer Sky to Purple Dusk (Rihlander; Reclaimer associate)

History:
Killian himself will tell you that there’s nothing interesting in his past, nor about who he is. He is simply a Steward and a Scholar now but that, of course, is far from the truth. Born to Eyrien Sympathizers who so very clearly misunderstood the naming conventions (as it should’ve been Killar not Killian) and did not know how offensive this was (by all means, talk to him about this and see how the conversation goes), his youth was rife with strife from both his parents and other Rihlanders that were not sympathizers as his parents were.

No one expected that the son of Freyja and Albin Ibsen would come away from his birthright ceremony clutching tightly to an uncut Purple Dusk or be a Prince and that set a tone for what was the rest of his life. The strain was obvious, even from a young age, that his parents were not quite able to handle the inquisitive and curious nature of their child who wanted to know everything about anything. Nor did he seem to really understand the restrictions placed upon them by the Eyriens. Why was a word his parents learned to fear hearing as it most certainly would lead to arguments.

Through his mother’s side, his family were the inheritors of a talented and prestigious Healer heritage. One that she barely acknowledged as he grew up, having settled into a life of supporting the Eyriens within Belaya. It let them have a comfortable life, what they could have with the Prohibitions, and run a small business within Belaya that enabled them to sell various wares (things that were expected to be found in the household).

It was never enough for Killian. As a Prince, he had a natural eye for organization and efficiency, taking to looking after things in the store but not finding it satisfying. He was more interested in books that he got his hands on, the ones that told stories of history - even if it was Eyrien Culture and not the Rihlander Culture he was more interested in even as a small child - and devoured them when he could.

In his digging around their home, Killian found books his mother had thought she had hidden away well but had not counted on her son, jeweled as she was, to be able to find them. The books he found were a recounting of his family history. More than that they also contained the methods and ways that were forsaken: traditional healing methods, tinctures, potions, and brews of the Rihlanders.

Everything Killian had ever wanted to know was within these books. It was his family history, his history as a Rihlander, and what was his heritage that had been forsaken by his mother. The worst thing he discovered in all of this was that his mother was a natural Healer and had, aside from tending to and healing for the other Eyrien Sympathizers, forsaken it all (as far as he was concerned).

From that point on, his relationship with his parents was further strained. While he did not understand everything within the books, he continued to read them- until he was discovered and that was when Freyja ruined what was left of her relationship with her son. Knowing that there would be no way to hide them from him, she did the only thing left to her and burned them to his horror.

Killian was only able to save a few pages from the witchfire that consumed the books, carefully tucking them away and making sure that neither of his parents would be able to see them. It was around the same time that his vision started to degenerate, a pair of glasses made for him that would compensate made for him but a warning made that it would potentially continue to degenerate as he got older.

He made a decision, early on, that as soon as he was able - as soon as his Offering was made - that he would leave Rihland. It did not matter that the borders were closed, that such a thing was closely watched, because he would get it done. The goal in mind was Dhemlan and the Universities there. It was the only place he could think of - that he heard of - that would enable him to do what he wanted: learn. Here, in Rihland, it was nothing but Prohibition and willingly ignorant people.

To the surprise of no one, he came out of his Offering ceremony with a cut Green jewel, being the first Dark Jeweled in his family in many a generation. That further sealed his desire to leave, darker jeweled than his parents and capable of so much more. Stealing away, with a fair chunk of coin and a letter to his parents that he would likely not be back (as he was more or less trouble for the life they wanted to live), Killian disappeared into the night.

Through a connection made in the Exchange, Killian was introduced to the The Unchained - to Silver and Tylmandra - who were not unsympathetic to his case. Not that Silver was not a bit mercenary about the entire thing and - with what coin he had - paid to have himself taken out of Rihland and to Dhemlan.

Left in Dhemlan, yet still unable to achieve going to University, Killian ended up taking up small jobs here and there that took advantage of his abilities as a Prince (working in shops and organizing, keeping stock of things as he had done in his own home). Eventually, however, he came to the attention of a long-lived Dhemlanese Prince named Ciaran Vahn who was part of the University. The man was interested in Rihland himself, wanting to expand what the Universities libraries had in terms of knowledge.

It meshed well with what Killian wanted to do - help expand and create a repository of knowledge of Rihland culture (not that he was entirely sure about it being in books as they were so easily burned and not traditional in the slightest). In exchange for this, for sharing his knowledge, Killian found his way into the University of Salamanca with a sponsor behind him.

There he lost himself in the classes and history he could study. Courses related to anthropology and archaeology were what lured him best but philosophy also had its allure. The years passed, Killian helping increase what was known about Rihland there but also increasing his own knowledge about other cultures and races under Ciaran's guiding hand.

Eventually, however, it was not enough. For all that he could learn about other cultures, there was nothing about Rihland that he did not already know and that is what he wanted to know most of all. It was why, after his studies were complete and instead of pursuing further, he approached Ciaran about returning to Rihland to once again pursue that which he considered lost. It was not an easy decision considering the Prohibitions were still in effect and Rihland was still rife with strife but Ciaran agreed that if Killian wanted to do this, that was where he would need to be.

Being smuggled back in to Rihland was an entirely different experience but he returned older and wiser, knowing how to mind himself better and not push or bring attention to himself.

The desire to know more of the lost Rihlander Healer ways and their culture lead him to seek out the Skalds, or those that he could find. That is how he eventually met Melany Kriemhild. Earning her trust was certainly not easy, not when she was wondering why an Eyrien woman was looking for her. It led to months of trying to find her before finally realize that, perhaps, specifying that someone pass on that he was not Eyrien would help.

Eventually Melany consented to meet him and from there he was able to share with her. Killian laid bare his desire to learn more of Rihlander history and culture, but also to know more of the Healer heritage that had been lost to him. She was also the first person he had ever shared the pages he had saved from his family. Their friendship and alliance was from that point onward was quickly formed.

Killian spent the next few years traveling around, going from place to place within Rihland and learning what he could but always staying on the outskirts and making sure to not upset the Prohibitions or the Eyriens that ruled them. It was on one of his return meetings with Melany that she began speaking of the Reclamation and the creation of the Reclaimers and became one of the first members of the cause, pledging himself all most immediately to it.

Despite their movements against the Eyriens, to subvert them and help the Rihlanders rise up, they could never account on what Kalvar Elbremov, the Red to Black Prince, and his culling of the Eyriens or the changes he made in the aftermath.

While some things were better, it was still not what they wanted and - as far as they were concerned - it was business as usual. Killian continued moving about the territory, doing what he could to bring more to their cause and gather knowledge, until Melany called him back and gave him what would become his current mission.

To reconcile with his parents within Belaya and find himself a place within the Court there and form sympathetic ties (and, hopefully, sway the Queen and others of her Court). Killian, despite his misgivings and no desire to see his parents, did so. He went back to Belaya and played the role of son looking to find his home again and to raise the status of his family within the new way of things. It was no longer under the strict rule of the Eyriens but the less restrictive, yet still confining, rule of Kalvar Elbremov and that was, as he spoke to his parents, better than he could have ever dreamed.

Through carefully made connections, alliances that had been made with other Reclaimer agents to help ease the way, Killian made his way to the Court of Belaya after hearing that her previous Steward had died to  meet with Mia Kollen. Killian presented himself exactly as he was, a Scholar and a man who was looking to do what was right for his people and see them safe. That Mia’s light jewels were not what she was capable of and, if she would she would accept him as her Steward, he would support her.

It’s where Killian has remained, walking the fine line between Reclaimer Agent and Steward of Belaya because all it takes is one misstep to fall. After all, look at what happened to Eyriens.

Show Us What You've Got

Character in Play:
Killian sat on the edge of the balcony, guitar across his lap with one leg tucked up and the other hanging down over the edge. A green aural shield had been spread out as he began to tune the old guitar, a finger pressed to the thickest string and strumming out the familiar note.

It was old, practiced, and when the note rang true he moved on to the next, trusting his ears after all these years.

Eventually he was satisfied that it was in tune after being stored away for so long in all the moving around and settling into his life as the Steward of Belaya.

At some point he would, perhaps, play for the Queen - when the moment was right - but for now he would hide behind his shields and keep it to himself.

Eyes closed, his fingers pressed down on the strings as the rough pad of his thumb strummed. The first note of this song was always the sweetest, the most poignant, and he carried it out as long as possible as he began to hum.

The song bubbled up from within, a low sweet voice as he began to sing. It was soothing to sing, though he would not do it for long before he would shift to something else but for now this is what he would play and sing.

These were the songs of his people and one day they would be remembered by them all.

It would not just be at the moots or around the fire with the other Reclaimers.

Not just a quiet strum of a beat as a backdrop to the story that was being told by Melany or Erwin.

It was a dream and one that he would fight to see become a reality.
