Appearance

Play By: Aaliyah (Haughton)

Distinguishing Features: Unlike most near full blooded Eyriens, Aelarian's wings do not allow her to fly due to an old injury she does not prefer to speak of. While they have been in the process of being healed for the last hundred years, at best, she can stretch and allow them to flutter and flap. The Priestess is a terribly reserved woman considering what she is, preferring silence and the depths of a fictional book to the company of people. Ever the dreamer, she is marked with startling hazel-brown eyes with lovely flecks of gold therein; the left has a single mote of blue-green.

Spice, sandalwood, and vanilla surround the lady that seems very much an enigma. Neither tall nor short, she stands to a height of five foot eight inches. Golden rings lay upon her fingers, and though her husband has been dead mere months, she still wears his ring out of loyalty rather than any apparently lost love. Knowledge seems to be the woman's first pursuit in all things, and of late she seems to be hiding a secret.

Personality

Personality: Priestess of the Blood, and partially short-lived, Aelarian appears to have both tolerance and patience for all of the people of Rihland, whether the reserved short-lived Glacians, the Rihlanders that play as hard as they work, and her father's people, the Eyriens. Delicately formed, intellect shimmers in her gaze. While she values her Caste and all the gentility and wisdom within it, the sound of the turning of a page of a book, scent of parchment seems to draw her attention more than anything else. In rare moments, very rare she is known to smile.

As the Librarian of Ebon Varos like her mother was before her, she was appointed to the position by Kalvar Elbremov, whom she has supported for a considerable number of decades. To Aelarian, being the best example of what Eyrien and the Blood can be is important as the one responsible for Archiving historical events. While generally appearing aloof, truly Aelarian enjoys people and recording their stories, and shelving the books held in Ebon Varos. Given the roughness in her late marriage that she almost never speaks about, her place in the Territory Court and the warm pride shines through the woman's actions in recalling each person's preferences for books.

Woman's severity is only belied by her beauty and most of all, humility. Unlike many Eyriens that are near to full-blooded, she does not consider her kind better than any and is swift to gently rebuke those that rise above their place with cold, iron fact. One could not truly consider the Archivist possessing friends; life has been merely a duty. Even in the destruction of the previous court, a husband being among those lives lost to the Prohibitions, her stance is absolutely neutral. Secretly she was relieved to be rid of him but is far too respectful of the balance of life to speak the words out loud. The prohibitions to her are merely another facet of life, though one might occasionally see her gaze following a few notables with an elegant wistfulness.

Likes:
  • 1 Ancient Books: Pages are akin to the feel of membranous wings, thus she enjoys them all the more when old. The knowledge such books hold are the sweetest secrets one can ever trust and were oft a reprieve from her arranged marriage. As that has come to an end, she has begun to appreciate the tomes she guards due to their rarity and not as much how she may escape into them and tales of old.

  • 2 Eyrien Wings: Aelarian cannot fly, and thus the wings of her people are even more precious than they might be otherwise. One of the woman's favoured delights outside of reading, is watching the sky both in the morn and deepened evening, when many of her people choose to fly, or once did before destroyed for straying from what they were meant to be: passionate protectors.

  • 3 Stringed Instruments: Music on a whole is lovely to her, and the traditions of others, such as the Glacian Piste, and the folk dances of the Rihlanders learned from her father are of considerable importance. As Rihlanders do not tend to read and write the way her people do, she has begun a project of recording everything she can about their culture. It is at times the oddest sight for a winged Eyrien to sit in a Tavern with a book held close and quietly writing, but the Priestess is well known for this and administering to any that would wish it. Yet, it is the tones of the strings that move her heart the easiest, even though it is rare for her to display as such in public.

    Dislikes:
  • 1 Baseless Hatred: Hatred between the various willfully segregated cultures within Rihland is one of the very few things to cause the Eyrien temper in the Priestess to rise. Elsewise, she is as patient as a stone skipped o'er water. If one must be moved to hate, the reasoning, in Aelarian's mind is required to be sound. Moreover, just because one feels a matter, does not mean it ought to be acted upon. She counselled her husband against this, who was very often one that rode against both the Prohibitions and made a nuisance of himself before the Black Prince's rise. In the end, he lost his life for his stupidity and made his wife a widow.

  • 2 Loud Noises: Given that the lady spends most of her time around books rather than other people unless observing and writing about them, she is not terribly fond of loud noises. Likely to remove herself in such cases of too much rivalry and revelry, silence is her preferred friend best of all.

  • 3 Strawberries and Flowers: Not only the strawberries themselves grown by Rihlanders due to her father's delight of them, but she also enjoys the flowers. Yet, with the loss of her father to the Purge, they tend only to make her sad, and deepen her tendency to be forced to speak or drawn out for the purpose. Like these flowers, it is a grand relief to her that Lady Sauer is High Priestess, rather than one akin to herself. All of these things remind of deepened loss, and her difficult predicament gone generally unspoken.

    Fears:
  • 1 Childbirth: As her mother perished in childbed and she is now only just with child, Aelarian is absolutely terrified she will lose her life and her unborn will be gone with it, just as her intelligent, useful mother was. Before her death, the lady was as well a Court Archivist. It is a grim irony that Aelarian finds herself in the same difficulty as the beautiful woman that gave her life: widowed, alone, and unloved. At night, when truly alone, at times the woman weeps for what she cannot have: a stable family. Those that complain about the Prohibitions clearly in her mind do not see the greater point of view: they can not afford to be at odds with the remainder of the world.

  • 2 Sharp Irrational Tempers: People that are inclined to yell for no reason truly annoy Aelarian. Anger is one thing, but its control is very much important. The Blood cannot always control anger or immense emotion, grief and these things she understands. Irresponsibility however in anger is a distinct annoyance, a trait her late husband possessed and always was found tiresome, not to mention embarrassing. She has been known to depart a room or at minimum flinch, going so far as to utterly cut a person from her life in such frustrating display.

  • 3 Drive for Conquest: The need for many Eyriens to take from those that are not akin to them is vile and disgusting. Thus, even long before the Purge, Aelarian stood apart from many of her kind due to her possessing one half-blooded parent. As such, her views on the world differ sharply from most. Though there is only the faintest mark upon the woman in this with the hue of her eyes, her difference and willingness for tolerance is something she takes great pride in. That there would remain those Eyrien that did not learn from the Great War and the Purge to begin it all over again, keeps her up late and deeply at worry for her future along with others that simply wish to thrive.

    Craft Strengths:
  • 1 Connecting with the Darkness: Connecting with the Darkness is one of those achievements Aelarian is terribly proud of. Her skill is so keen, that she is capable of refilling the reservoirs of a charge even without true communion, and is as well able to siphon strength from another.

  • 2 Meditation Craft: Meditation Craft is a gift that Aelarian first began to hone once away she was somewhat different from most Eyriens in regard to temperament. It is this that keeps her able to suppress many negative facets. With an hour or more worth of time, she can not only keep herself calm but increase the efficiency of her ability to connect with the darkness and tend to a supplicant in less time than average required.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1 Communication Craft: Aelarian cannot initiate Communication Craft from considerable distances. She needs to either be able to see the person or know them intimately.

  • 2 Power Bolts: The attempt to call form Power Bolts alludes her entirely; the Priestess might as well be a Blood Female when it comes to this particular gift, despite its usefulness.

    Life Story

    Family:
Mother: Zaerian Lorev, Jewelless Blood. Eyrien. Deceased in childbirth complications.
Father: Guntar Weber, Jewelless Blood. Half Eyrien. Deceased in Purge.
    Siblings: Stillbirthed brother, unnamed.

Former Husband: Torar Elzarav, Warlord Prince. "Eyrien."* Deceased. Opal - Sapphire.

    *Secretly half long-lived, mixed Rihlander.

History: Lady Aelarian Weber, having been given her father's surname by her mother for the sake of love and a small break of traditional thought, as a result, has lived her life almost entirely around Ebon Varos. Though she has walked the fullness of Rihland to an extent, it has not been since the Purge that she has seen the lands from the skies above. This fact and an expectation rendering her almost fully flightless have shifted the manner in which she deals with others to a far more reserved presence than she ever had been. But of course, that is a tale that has naught to do with the Priestess' birth, and the love story of her mother choosing a half-blooded man to take to a husband. This is a great fixture of Lady Weber's life, and with pride, she makes use of her surname without the concern of the opinions of others.

One that has lived her life with some traditional values intact, fighting has never been the woman's way. As a girl, she knew precisely where her life would end, even down to the choice of her husband which had been decided for her. Born to the last of her maternal line, it was already known before the woman's Birthright that she was promised to the Warlord Prince Torar Elzarav, an old Eyrien line known for once being a branch family of her mother's blood.

However, considerable war and reduced said family to a mere handful of people, and by the time of the Purge, was left to herself, her mother, and the unborn child that would take her mother's life. Having survived the Purge due to falling nearly to her death with a miscalculation of flight, she was feverish and unable to make use of her Jewels, which saved them from breaking.

Education and learning have been part of her existence since her birth. Stories of other lands in Kaeleer and their teachings were explained in detail to her by her beloved mother, a Jewelless Blooded woman with more cleverness in her smallest finger than many had in thousands of years of existence. It is said that her family arises from a line of Archivists that have always kept the history of the Blood, and thus, have ever been respected. These days in Rihland, few people have or even recall this particular aspect of Aelarian's existence, and nor is she inclined to explain.

Gifted with the splendour of an Uncut Rose Birthright that had clearly belonged to no other before her, as well as that of an Uncut Purple Dusk Offering, she is by far not the deepest Jewelled or even darkly so. Yet, that given that her parents were lacking Jewels entirely and most Blood are akin to them, the grace of what she does possess is most certainly appreciated, even if these days, she uses no Craft at all.

Wedded to a man that hardly seemed to match her for wisdom and elegance, she was loyal with a quiet constancy to Prince Elzarav that was perennially unappreciated, until the point that his anger took him too far. Thankfully, the marriage was not an entire waste, even though the woman has yet to speak of this fact. At this juncture, she has no thought of what to do. Children are precious, but to raise even one alone is another issue entirely.

Guilt occasionally stirs Aelarian out of her silence as there are moments the Priestess wishes she could have done something to stop her husband from seeking out mind-altering substances, but in the end, she recognizes that people are responsible for their own actions. No blame does she place upon the laws of the Black Prince that put her husband to death, given her severe outlook upon life. Yet, there are moments the quietly passionate woman misses the feeling of his warmth around her, and the manner in which occasionally, he did seem to value her at the very end. At least, in the end, the bloodline was not lost. For that she is thankful, considering it mercy granted by Mother Night.

    Show Us What You've Got

    Character in Play:

What's his name girl, was he good to you ...

Prince Torar lied, but it had not been the first time her husband had done so. Over the decades they were paired together, more than half her life, Lady Aelarian was well used to hearing him return home late with the scent of a variety of others upon him, sometimes male. It tore her in half, this understanding that he would risk everything, including leaving her alone for a few moments of forbidden pleasure. It had been well over a century, however, since the fact had made the Priestess cry. She never showed her face in doing so, for Prince Torar found its weakness, her desiring even the smallest shred of loyalty. Aelarian could have complained, no doubt, but in many ways, Eyrien stubbornness had been her reasoning for silence. The relationship between a wife and husband was private and near sacred.

This time, however, his lies had not only cost her husband his life, but also her unborn child a father. She had known mere days after his death and the funeral rites that she at least appeared to be, for now, carrying the late Warlord Prince's child. It left her cold, however, and quietly angry. Forgiving him did not make a difference, because he was gone and dead for the grace of a moment's need. While some might well have been angry at the law itself, Aelarian was not and never have been one of those people. The Prohibitions kept the rest of Kaeleer from wanting to rip the lot of the Eyriens from the sky for extinction and kept the short-lived in Rihland as well as themselves safe.

While the laws had primarily been a tool for subjugation, now it was equal, and Aelarian liked this very well. Her late husband, however, had not, and made his rage very vocal. Sometimes, she wished that he had left her, rather than forcing her to suffer the embarrassment of being wed to a fool that could not think. It displayed that perhaps in even the best of a bloodline and a family, some people just were foolish, regardless of how well that Mother Night had blessed them.

"Do you not miss your husband, my lady?"

Aelarian blinked, soft hazel brown and gold eyes focusing on the other librarian, whom unlike her, had brilliant blue eyes and soft blond hair. Aelarian found it beautiful, like the sun in the sky. It made her miss her father. She did not inherit his blue eyes, but rather, the brown of the man's Rihlander grandmother. This too was acceptable.

What a query, indeed. Did she miss Prince Torar and his incessant complaining about finally having equality among the peoples of Rihland? Not remotely. But what they could have been, that, she wept for. Though such a personal statement she would not let free.

"I miss what could have been. But no. I do not miss the man I was forced to marry to save my family."

Long was the pause that followed.

"I miss other things, but that too will pass."

    Petitions (if any): None.
