Appearance

Play By: Tony Chung
Distinguishing Features:
The biggest hint to his heritage not being completely Eyrien is the light touch of facial hair.  Something he has ceased trying to hide, and in fact, has started accenting.  He'll never have a glorious beard, and he doesn't want one.  But Brekkar likes his mustache and scruff even if it means that he has to overcome the seemingly instinctive distaste it can cause in others.

Personality

Personality:
Brekkar doesn't give much of a shit for what others might expect him to be.  He is an Eyrien, and he is proud of it.  He fights like he breathes, but he does so with control and thought.  When not warming up, or working out, he is training in the Camps.  Helping the younger learn what it is to BE Eyrien... and trying to impart to them that worth is not just in purity of blood, but is found in purity of purpose.
Despite his seeming play-boy shenanigans, he does love his family even when he disagrees with them.  His cousins are gifts, his father was a good male, and his mother still fusses over her children like hatchlings.  Brekkar is a popular male with many ladies, and while he greatly enjoys their attentions, he is not anxious to start a family of his own just yet despite the obvious love he has for the family of his birth.  Askavi isn't ready for more mouths to feed, and he isn't ready to risk losing a wife or child to famine, or the inevitable invasion that Askavi will face.
He is firmly on the side of the rogue camps in his beliefs that in this time of weakness, Askavi's enemies will come for her.
He'd rather take the fight to them first.  He'd rather lay a wall of their enemies' dead on the border so as to make clear the idea that messing with his home is a suicide run.  For now... they must wait.  So he keeps his eyes on the horizons.  He faces the borders, and he trains the young... and he waits.

Likes:
  • 1.  Physicality -  Whether it's fighting or simply putting himself through his forms and workouts, Brekkar lives for the physical world.  Let the priests and priestesses concern themselves with spirituality.  The Darkness made him a Warlord Prince. He'd rather fight, fly, fuck, and work.  Not necessarily in that order.
  • 2.  Reading - it has always made his cousins laugh, his love of reading.  He was the male in the family that seemed the least likely to love the written word, and yet... when his daily workouts are finished, his duties attended, and time allows - he's content to lean against a tree with a book about anything at all and let the words take him.
  • 3.  Building -  As much as he loves to pillage and burn things down, he enjoys building things up. There is a satisfaction to be had in making a new eyrie for his friends, or in repairing one that has need of repair.  There is an inner calm that steals over him when he builds things.

    Dislikes:
  • 1.  Peace is a Lie.  REAL peace is merely the absence of an active enemy... but there are always enemies lurking in the shadows and waiting for your back to turn.  Askavi will never be free of enemies, and knowing that so many in his territory want to tuck tail and act as if they can have peace drives him up the wall.  When Kaderian left her family's eyrie to join the Blood Seekers, he approved.  Real peace isn't possible - pretending that it is insults every ancestor and the very soul of their people.
  • 2.  Queens -  Many males fear queens because of the possibility of being bound.  He dislikes them because the entire world tries to revolve around them.  So they can bleed life into the land... so what?  Is that really worth all the adoration they seem to gain for merely existing?  Obviously Queens can be more trouble than they're worth.  Askavi wouldn't be as poor as a beggar and on the cusp of death if Queens were worth the air they breathed.... with a few rare exceptions.
  • 3.  Backstabbers -  If you're going to try to kill someone, do it properly or don't do it at all.  Those who will stab you in the back without actually trying to fight you are... worse than Jhinka.  They deserve to have their limbs removed and die of starvation and thirst.  He'd gladly hang their torsos up so that everyone can see their shame.
Fears:
  • 1.  Being Unworthy -  He didn't have a queen to protect for most of his life, personally, that's true.  And he would rather join a Camp than work for a Court.  But he fears, greatly, being found unworthy of his people by those who truly matter to him.  His cousin, the Camp leaders, his brothers.  There were moments growing up when his lineage earned him some remarks, and he's fought hard to make it clear he is Eyrien, no matter his grandfather's origins.  To be found unworthy after all this time would shatter him.
  • 2.  Failing Askavi -  The Jhinka are rising.  Their people are fewer in number, and weaker than he'd like after the Purge.  He has witnessed the carnage the Jhinka can wreak upon a poorly guarded village, and every time it's made him alternate between nausea and the ice of his rage.
  • 3.  Losing Control -  He is a Warlord Prince.  Rage is ever present, ever sizzling beneath his skin.  But the Camps have taught him to channel it, to control it and not allow it to control him.  That being said... everyone slips sometimes.  He fears that slip.  He fears it more than death -  during the worst of the Wars, he usually managed to control himself.  But there was one time that he didn't... and the memories of what he did when his Rage took hold occasionally wake him in a cold sweat during his rest.
Craft Strengths:
  • 1.  Speed Enhancement - Some learn to make themselves last for weeks on end.  Some learn to enhance their strength and shatter bone.  He chose, instead, to specialize in becoming one of the fastest warriors of Askavi.  His movements are a blur to his enemies, and he isn't using illusion to make them seem that way.  He didn't have to be stronger or last longer than his opponents if he could defeat them so quickly they have no chance at a real defense.
  • 2.  (Advanced) Breaking Jewels - He got to be very, VERY good at this in the war.  The threat of Breaking an enemy's jewels during interrogation was usually a good motivator for getting a few secrets... but truthfully, he tended to use it on the battlefield against those who could last more than a few moments.  Better to break the strongest enemies he could find and leave them alive as warnings.

    Craft Weaknesses:
  • 1.  Weapon Enhancements -  More than once he's broken a blade... and always he curses his inability to strengthen his weapons with his craft.  He's had to adjust to the reality that he has to rely on others to enhance his weapons for him... or just accept that he will break weapons more often than others.
  • 2.  Healing -  Most males on the battlefield can seal up their own wounds, a bit.  He... can't.  He's never been able to get the hang of knitting flesh together.  He can't even slow his bleeding with Craft, and is forced to tie a bandage and hope for the best.

History:
Females are not weak.  It seems like a silly thing to know in your very bones, but Brekkar knows this.  He's seen how some of the males get that attitude about the females simply because tradition states they don't fight... but he's known since the moment of his birth that females aren't weak.  Brekkar was born during a terrible storm.  The mountains were being battered by wind, rain, and hail.  His mother was forced to birth him alone, his father unable to return in time.

He was told the story many times.  It always amazed him that she was able to do it, it always stunned him that so many disregarded just how strong the females of their people had to be to risk being alone in such a time... to be left home while their males went off to war.  He never could quite wrap his head around some of the males he fought with.  He didn't like the idea of being alone as a child, even though he was hard to play with.  He wanted little siblings to protect.  Maybe a brother or two... a sister would be perfect.

It took a few years for the knowledge that his mother would bare no more children to really sink in.   But by the time he'd found out that she couldn't, he had formed bonds with the brothers of his heart in the Camps.

When he was taken to the Camps as a child, he took to their training like a fish to water.  There was something gratifying about the process of fighting.  Something that soothed the temper that always flowed so cold under his skin.  He worked at it, and it didn't take too long for people to begin to realize he would be a ferocious fighter.

He formed bonds with one of the older boys, a light-Jewelled male named Alomar.  Alomar was able to get through to him and teach him to harness his Rage... to control it, and not allow it to control him.  There were hiccups, of course... but together they became the best of friends, and best of fighting partners.  Back to back in many battles they would fight, becoming a whirlwind of death and destruction for any foes unlucky enough to face them.    They were eventually joined by Halvar and Treyvar... and even into the modern days these four are likely to fly together.

Even when they chose different Camps to join, they would meet up for drinking and wenching whenever possible.  They would spar, test each other's resolve, shore up each other's weaknesses.  Laugh at each other's follies.

When Alomar tried to woo Brekkar's cousin Kaderian, Brekkar had to laugh and cart his 'brother' to a bar in order to soothe the male's ego.  When Halvar's little sister was killed by Hayllians, Brekkar and his 'brothers' were the first to fly to his aid in exacting justice for the death.

The Wars were a time of delight for all four of them.  They fought.  They bled.  They took their females from their conquered territories and they would repeat the cycle.  It was a grand time to be alive, even if the Price was occasionally high.

When the Purge struck, they were all together.  It was Halvar who screamed out to not fight it... and it is Halvar they all credit with their survival and unbroken Jewels.  It was Treyvar who kept Brekkar from Rage when he learned of the deaths of his little cousins.  It was Alomar who worked with him to shore up his Rage again in the years that followed.

It was Halvar who pieced him together when he lost control during a battle with Jhinka and caught a young Landen across the throat with a swipe of his blade.  It was Halvar who helped him begin to come to peace with his mistake.  Halvar who helped him to believe that he was not a worthless male.

For years he's tried to join the camp of the Blood Seekers... and it is only NOW that Drakkar Estaroth accepts his request.  Perhaps the older Prince knew that he was flawed with his Rage.  He doesn't know the reason for the delay, and truthfully he doesn't want to find out.  He simply wants to serve his people and atone for his mistake.  He wants to do RIGHT by Askavi.

Character in Play:

  "You're joining my sister, then?"

Brekkar sighed, setting the bag on the table before glancing at Lokar.  The Prince didn't seem upset... but then he took after his mother.  He'd probably fume inwardly about whatever annoyed him. "Can't be a surprise, little cousin.  Kadi and I were always more alike."  Brekkar grinned, unable to help it as he watched the uncomfortable shifting of the well dressed male in front of him.

  "Mother's going to be pissed."

"Yes, well... Aunt Rheanian always was a bit more..."

  "Yeah yeah, don't finish that."

He grinned, opening up his arms.  Lokar took the offered embrace, holding tightly for a bit longer than Brekkar was comfortable with.   Lokar had always been a bit more civilized than himself - but the press of muscle in that embrace was proof enough that the man's care with his appearance didn't mean weakness.   "Don't worry, little cousin... I'll be fine.  Death hasn't nabbed me yet."  He couldn't help but laugh, his hand clapping the male on the shoulder.

"Yeah well... Kaderian won't be there to patch you up.  Apparently she's off on some mission for the camp."

"... Oh great.  Well, if I die while she's gone, she's going to be sure to find a way to bring me back just to kill me herself."  Their laughs were rueful, sure... but he couldn't help the pang at not being able to catch her before she left.  It had been too long.

That was their goodbye.  Brekkar had never been one for prolonged exits.  The rush of the wind in his hair and against his wings was enough to wipe away whatever sorrows might plague him.  He was going to the Blood Seekers.  Finally.  The sight of the Camp laid out in the morning light as he dove for a landing was enough to make his heart race.

He was going to make his father proud.  And he was going to be in that first push against their enemies.  He could feel it in his bones.

"Brekkar Vrykson, answering the Call.  Where can I find Lord Estaroth?"
