Reason: I love the setting, both the physical setting of the palace and its inhabitants, against the setting of a man coming to bow before a woman who embodies pain and loss. These two characters are trapped in circumstances beyond them, trying to make the best, and phinn and Bowie capture the heartache and burden of life moving on after loss and destruction very well.

i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night

Character nominated: Erisian Maboya
Reason: She's baaaaaaack, and Petri's gorgeous, long posts are so descriptive and visceral. They have been great to read and make me have emotions over Eris even though I was not already invested in her before this.

Thread title: Hollow out my body, I'll be just as empty as you
Thread link: https://www.bloodrites.net/askavi-37/hollow-out-my-body-i'll-be-just-as-empty-as-you/
Reason: I love how Gavin and Phe portray these complex characters and their motivations. Seeing Celebrian being just so cruelly taken advantage of while thinking that she is getting exactly what she wants is heart-wrenching and twisted and beautiful.

Thread title: I'll Be Big One Day Too
Thread link: https://www.bloodrites.net/pruul-42/i'll-be-big-one-day-too/
Reason: Kenna's Lucky is always fun to read, and getting to see him small and fierce is wonderful. To have that juxtaposed to Zen's new Gunnar who just had his Jewels broken is so unexpectedly beautiful. A man who has lost everything breaks away even from his own grief and pain to talk to this tiny, angry child. It is intimate and reveals a lot about both characters.
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead, We'll wander back to home and bed.

Thread title: twelve bars behind us and twelve bars to go
Thread link: https://www.bloodrites.net/dena-nehele-39/twelve-bars-behind-us-and-twelve-bars-to-go/
Reason: Thanks to this thread, FMK is now a canon game in Dena Nehele. A gray Jeweled Myos and a Summer Sky Jack drink and prod at each other into hilarious corners as they push at each other's soft spots, bring up ridiculous antics from their pasts, and play a drunkenly reasoned game of FMK. Em and Zen's writing in this thread is fantastic. Both characters are a riot to read, from their discussion of whether DN is the next Hayll to their similar tastes in bed partners (especially when it comes to Drake...) If you haven't read this thread, do it! It's so worth it.

Thread title: flesh, bones, skin, and soul
Thread link: https://www.bloodrites.net/shalador-45/flesh-bones-skin-and-soul/
Reason: It's one thing to say that a Black-Jeweled Priestess Queen and her court saved Shalador from the fiery rage of a volcanic eruption. It's quite another to explain how it was done. It's done masterfully and exquisitely in this thread. Petri sets the stage with Erisian and her court sweating it out in the volcano. The ritual that follows is gut wrenching. It takes real imagination to construct a ritual that fits perfectly with the canon of the world, hasn't been done before, and emotionally resonates. The blood price paid to save the territory is described vividly and powerfully, and with the resigned determination of the Mad Lady, who is doing what she's always done: Absolutely everything necessary for the sake of her people. The follow up posts continue to deliver on what the opener promises, with Reid and Phe writing at the top of their very impressive game. Watch this one as it unfolds. It's one of the best I've seen on Blood Rites.

Character nominated: Erisian Maboya
Reason: I love this character. She is played with a ton of gravity -- because Black Jewel. But not without massive emotional resonance. Also, one of the things Petri does better than anyone is capture the essence of a character's caste. Eris is fully a Priestess and fully a Queen. One is never secondary to the other, and they're both absolutely necessary to who she is. That's always present in the writing, in her thoughts, actions and motivations. That's not easy to do. Priestess is easily the most poorly-defined caste in the books. Petri's figured out through Erisian what it means to be the kind of Blood who can powerfully connect with the well of their power source, beyond just referencing Jewel rank. She's a badass. She's a prisoner who broke free of her chains. And she lives like that could happen again if she ever let her guard down long enough to let it. If you're looking for a reason why specifically March is her month, see above. Petri wrote with Eris one of the trickiest bits of epic plot I've ever seen. Long live the Mad Lady.

Thread: Education
Reason: I've been waiting a good long minute to see Zahira in writing again, and obviously Abulurd is awesome. This thread is a fantastic view of Caste training, the joining and learning from a Pruulian Clan, and seeing a character of the Mineborn have to learn what it means to rule, despite not being asked if she wanted to at all. This is all awesome and I'm excited! Nicole and Dash are a treat to read period, but this thread is just fun. It's worth a reading, for sure.  8) ;D ;)

We didn't have enough Character nominations to run a CotM vote. Normally this would require us to auto-nom all eligible characters, but there were 165 of them in March! So instead I'm going to leave nominations open a couple more days. Character Nominated:  Niccolo Faa
Reason:  I find Nic fascinating to read.  he's so bloody controlled all the time (obvious reasons) but he does it in a way that is deeply believable.  i love reading how his trauma has caused him to deal with teh world.  Everything has a place.  Everything has its rules.  And so long as he has his rules, he can deal with the world.

Character nominated: Archimedes Belmont
Reason: Sol has created a frickin great character.  Archimedes is taking a job that he wouldn't necessarily have picked for himself and making the most of it.  I absolutely love reading everything Sol writes with him and look forward to more.

Character nominated: Aleia Sala
Reason: Aleia's got several facets to her, all of them enjoyable to read. Whether it's time in the pantry with Archimedes, soothing Laszlo, or making someone eat because they just aren't eating enough, Aleia is great. And yet she still carries an edge to her without her jewels coming into play. Looking forward to reading more of her!

Character nominated: Toyani no Kagen
Reason: Toyani cares nothing for your feelings, your caste, or your rules. She is here to take what she wants and she will not be stopped. Even when she wants to reach across the table and gouge your eyes out for your temerity, she refrains, plotting your downfall in a hundred subtle ways. Thus far, she's been in control of every interaction she's had so far, even across from  the very formidable Riley. Can't wait to see more of her!
