Tenured HBC Perk

Hello writers!

More than once in the past few months, comments have been made that make it seem like the majority of the board's population does not have an accurate sense of how HBC or the back-end of the board is currently run. In addition, many writers seem unfamiliar with how we got here, to the nearly eight-year-old community that has become such an enjoyable place to express ourselves creatively and tell stories with our friends.

Jamie and Dani in particular take a bit of flak for their absences, which is perhaps understandable if one isn't aware of how large a role they've played in the board's creation and sustainment over the years. Most writers aren't privy to how frequently Jamie and Dani are consulted even now, and how they still contribute off-screen to the board's plots and mechanics even though it's not their names on Review stamps or posting announcements. It has been several months since either of them was free to roleplay as much as they'd like, and to newer players that can perhaps seem excessive. Dash, Nik and I would like to take a moment just to make it clear that there wouldn't be a Blood Rites -- and certainly not one that looks as beautiful and has endured so well -- without the hard and sustained work of these two ladies. Jamie was one of three founding members, completely funds the board's web space and hosting, and created the framework that has allowed us to flourish. Dani joined shortly after the site's creation, and since then has been essential in the design of the board as well as implementing new functionality via her coding wizardry. Their creative contributions have also played a large role in setting up multiple rich environments in several Territories that allow for a variety of self-governed plots even in their absence.

The recent comments have caused the remainder of HBC to take a look at just how much Dani and Jamie have poured into the board over the years, and we have voted to enact a new policy specifically for the two of them. With the exception of Territory Leader characters, Jamie and Dani will be exempt from the inactivity policy that applies to the rest of the writers on the board. This policy is effective immediately.

We have enacted this policy knowing that it breaks with tradition. We have taken pride over the years in the leadership of the board being held to the same standards as the newest player, and this obviously deviates from that trend. However, there are no other writers on the board who have contributed as much effort and resources to the board as Dani and Jamie, and it is only by their consistency and effort over the years that any of us have this site to enjoy.

So we're calling it an even trade.

We do not plan to extend this Tenured HBC policy to any other writers. This is intended solely for Jamie and Dani in light of their contributions over the last seven-plus years.

It feels good to see their contributions honoured and their places cemented like this. Dani and Jamie have put so much work into this site and continue to do so. Even on their LOAs they put in an amount of thought and care that is, to me, easy to liken to a second job.

I do not have a gif series but I totes approve all of Dany's.

Much gratitude for all the talking and thoughtfulness that went into making this a reality.
mostly i am an absentee parent to all my fictional creations.
sometimes i have inappropriate public reactions by which i am later mortified.
