2018 Superlatives Event & the Awards Board
« on: Jul 18, 18, 08:14:59 AM »

Buckle in, there's PARAGRAPHS in this one!

We are changing up the way we handle Superlatives and Awards this year. Through feedback we've received over the years, HBC recognizes that feelings about Superlatives and the monthly of-the-month awards vary wildly among our writers. Some LIVE for them. Others find them intensely stressful and a nuisance. While we believe them to be held in a positive light overall, we want to be as accommodating as we can to those who've no wish to participate in them.

That being the case, we are moving the Superlatives event and the monthly awards page over to a dedicated Awards board. This board - at the bottom of the main page, beneath the Advertisements board - has been hidden from all players by default. If you want to participate in these events, all you have to do is let a member of HBC know and we'll click the little box on your account that will let you see it. If you're more comfortable not seeing or participating in these things, then you don't have to do anything at all. There may still be the occasional announcement making mention of them, but you'll be spared the majority of the fuss and traffic concerning those events.

In addition, we've created a Superlatives section for the awards board, with a dedicated Nominations board. While we will still offer the Google Form for submitting your Superlative noms anonymously year-round, those writers who don't mind showing the world who they're nominating and why are invited to post their nominations at any time during the year on that Nomination board. Nominations submitted via the Google Form will be collected throughout the year and intermittently posted to the Nomination board by a member of HBC with the nominating writer's name removed to preserve their anonymity. This way, we'll all have a better idea of what nominations we've already made (I can never remember, from July to January). We'll also get the benefit of seeing all the kindness that's typically shared via the Love Letters thread, without all the work that massive thread requires (okay that's more for me than you, but still!). AND, now all the awards will be stored together in one easy-to-find place. Win/win/win.

It's our hope that these changes will help make the board a little bit more comfortable and user-friendly at the same time. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns about this please don't hesitate to reach out to any HBC member for info.

TLDR: If you want to continue to see monthly awards and superlatives stuff, tag an HBC person so we can give you access to the right board for that.  •  Discord: phinn#0798  •  Writer Tracker
