Appearance

Play By: Julia Budd
Distinguishing Features: Dyana is by no means a dainty lady. She is 6'0" of solid muscle and has the training to back it up. She has broad shoulders, slim hips, and small breasts. With her hair up under a hat she's often mistaken for a man from a distance or the back.

Personality

Personality:

Dyana is forthright and doesn't really fuck around. She says what is on her mind with little to no regard for pleasantries surrounding the issue. This isn't to say that she's malicious necessarily, or even that she's purposefully harsh in any way, she just doesn't see the point in sugar coating or beating around the bush. She appreciates honesty and demonstrates it herself, even when its unpleasant or unpopular opinions - and especially with those who are her friends. She expects them to be just as up front and blunt with her as she is with them and will get particularly annoyed if she feels like they're not.

A laid back woman, Dyana can take criticism from friend, foe, and arbitrary bystander without issue. She respects when her friends have an opinion to share and actually come forward to do so. However, they are just personal opinions, and if she doesn't agree with them she'll mostly just shrug them off and continue with whatever it was they'd expressed opposition to - no matter what their argument is and how rational or convincing they think they're being. If they still have an issue with it, they'll just have to get over it. She grew up having plenty of people tell her that she shouldn't fight, and has adopted a brush-off attitude to those criticisms and then applied it to any other ones she doesn't feel like listening to. In a way, this makes her quite stubborn, and few people can change her mind once she's set it.

Fiercely loyal to her guild and her friends, Dy does not hesitate to jump in and interfere if she she feels the need, and will always stand by her people. For Dyana, "her people" includes the Jacks and also the many women working Red Moon Houses around and about Bidea whom she has protected over the years - whether she's been hired to do so or not.

Also notable is her relationship with her femininity, in that she has one and is particularly defensive about it. Just because she is six feet of muscular awesome doesn't mean she isn't feminine. It's an insecurity that she hides fairly well most of the time, that she almost feels like she has to fight to "qualify" as a girl even though she is one. The main reason she keeps her hair long despite it being a nuisance half of the time is that she feels like it's her only real visual tie to being a girl, her physique being the way it is and her practical sense of style leaning more toward the mens clothes that happen to fit her better anyway.

Likes:
  • 1 - Fighting. Fuck does she like a good fight. There is nothing quite like getting lost in the adrenaline of physical violence - especially when it's with someone who isn't going to go down after one soft little hit to their kidney. While she also gets a similar rush of adrenaline and exertion from working out, it isn't nearly what she feels in the heat of a fight. If she goes too long without a match or an unruly client at one of the Houses she will start to get itchy and angsty, like someone who's gone too long without sex.
  • 2 - Protecting the little guy. Dyana has found her purpose and she relishes in it. She lives to be that wall between the Bully and the Bullied, and it's a special kind of sense of rightness she gets when beating an asshole into a bloody pulp to protect someone who can't protect themselves. This is a different sort of rush apart from the actual fighting, because it's a sense of purpose. It's a true direction that she can follow and use her particular skill set and talent for, and is what makes her fairly at peace with herself in a world that is so tremendously fucked up.
  • 3 - Thunderstorms. Probably the only time that Dyana truly feels any sense of spirituality is during a thunderstorm. She feels connected when surrounded by crashing torrents of ran and the booming of thunder - like she can actually understand Mother Night when most of the time she's at a loss when it comes to religion. Storms are nature's temper tantrums. They are raw, emotional, naked, and pure. Exhilarating. Arousing, even. Sex and violence are both far more potent to her during a storm, though she doesn't always feel the need to seek either out. Sometimes she's content to just be introspective, quiet, and enjoy the natural chaos as it rages.
Dislikes:
  • 1 - People getting preachy. Dy hates it when people try to tell her how she is supposed to be living her life - or anyone else's for that matter. People who can't get off their high horse sometimes need to get kicked off of it and she isn't exactly opposed to doing so either. These preachy assholes aren't even reserved to aristos either - they exist everywhere. In fact, Dyana really doesn't see much difference between aristos and regular people except that the former have a shit ton more money. People are still people at the end of the day and the poorest man on earth can still find a way to think he's better than everyone else and somehow has the right to tell people what is right and wrong for them without even fucking knowing them.
  • 2 - Her moontime. It's safe to say that probably most women don't like their moontime. However, Dyana despises it with a passion. She hates feeling weak, feeble, or incapable - and the inability to access her Jewels without pain conjures all three at the same time. If it were just the pain of cramping and a bit of extra blood she'd be find, but add in emotional upheaval and that suddenly every male in the vicinity now sees her as female only because she smells like some target to either attack or protect and she's just done with the whole thing. She's prone to pushing herself through her moontime each month, training privately in that first day or two that are the worst until she's exhausted enough to just crash and sleep.
  • 3 - Sore losers. There will always be someone better than you. Get over it. People who whine, complain, bitch, and argue after losing or being proven wrong grate on her nerves. Dyana isn't always exactly happy when she loses or is wrong about something, but she's typically more pissed at herself if she's upset at all. She takes the lesson as one to get stronger, get better, and just be better. The best way to grow is to fuck up and survive it, take what you've learned and not make the same mistake again.
Fears:
  • 1 - Becoming feeble. A very physical person, Dyana fears the day her strength will fail her. While this is hopefully a very long way off, she is uncomfortable being around the elderly and the reminder that ultimately everyone ends up in the same place. Seeing people stricken with severe illness has the same sort of unsettling effect on her, and she really cannot imagine ever being able to cope with the loss of her physical ableness.
  • 2 - Not being able to be there for her brothers. Her family is everything to her, and unlike most girls - Dyana grew up the protector, even to her older brother Symon. She takes on the responsibility of being the strong one, and she takes it very seriously. She's afraid that there will one day come a situation where she cannot be there for one of her brothers, where she can't protect them or support them. Where she's completely incapable of being what they need.
  • 3 - Abandonment. While this isn't really a fear that she necessarily registers that she has, their mother leaving when she was a child did have a decisive impact - maybe even moreso because she was the only female in the family. She's almost as afraid of being abandoned as she is of being the one who will do the leaving, a subconscious worry that any relationship she ventures won't last. As a result, she tends to enter relationships with an almost defeatist attitude when she has them at all. Most of the time she avoids the situation entirely by keeping to casual encounters and sex with friends.
Life Story

Family:
Mother: Loriana Abless, Tiger Eye to Summer Sky hearth witch
Father: Richard Cornerstone, Opal to Green Prince
Siblings:
  • Symon Cornerstone, Summer Sky to Green Prince (23, b. 169 AP)
  • Aydin Cornerstone, Yellow to Rose Warlord (20, b. 172 AP)
  • Dylan Cornerstone, Rose to Opal Warlord (18, b. 174 AP)
History:

Dyana was born the only daughter of four children and despite having a somewhat unconventional upbringing she grew up well. Her father Richard was a member of the Jacks and her mother was an unfaithful trollop who finally skipped off with a much richer man than their father when Dy was six and her youngest brother was three.

From a young age, Dy was energetic and just this edge of wild. Her father channeled that energy into one of the only things he knew - fighting - and he was pleasantly surprised when she took to it like a fish to water. Considering none of her brothers had any interest whatsoever, this brought the father/daughter pair closer together. Her physical training often took priority over schoolwork, which likely would have been abandoned completely if Dyana's studious older brother didn't insist she also focus on keeping her mind as sharply honed as her body.

While she would never become a scholar, she begrudgingly appeased Symon's prodding and devoted at least a portion of her attention to academics. Well, at least she did until she started truly following in her father's footsteps to become a Jack. Richard oversaw her apprenticeship and training himself, taking her on many of his jobs for her to observe and/or assist as he saw was appropriate. Then she let a lot of the superfluous studies go completely by the wayside to throw herself into her guild and all the jobs she could get her hands on (sometimes without necessarily getting her father's permission, but her zealousness never got her into too much trouble).

She was fourteen, 5'9", and 140lbs of solid muscle the first time she was paid to fight. She'd just finished up security gig with her father and some unfortunate manbaby was spewing some crap about her. While she'd been glad to put the bastard in his place as a service to the community, it was her father who suggested a match. They cleared the tables from the tavern floor and everyone made bets. Richard walked away a damn rich man and gave half of it to his daughter then and there. The match was exhilarating and far too easy. It was also highly entertaining, and after the bout she started getting challenged here and there - by other Jacks or just from people who saw her fight or heard of her. As the years went on the bouts turned from random and unofficial little spats outside of taverns or inside them, to organized invitation events.

While fighting was a passion, she kept it as a side hobby and didn't let the matches get in the way of her progression up the ranks in the guild or any of the jobs she took - especially when she started taking them solo. She loved fighting, and it paid pretty damn well when she won, but she had a duty to her guild and the people who depended on them. Jacks would take any job, big or small, of any variety (Jack of all Trades, etc.) - but every Jack also typically had their own niche as well. Some were thieves, some were detectives, some were fighters and socializers and protectors.

Dyana found her niche serving the various whorehouses of Bidea. Not just protection and security, but also in the kitchens, or as a hostess, or as an escort, or to do the shopping. She enjoyed being around the men and women of the Red Moon Houses, making their lives easier when she could and at the very least safer.

When she isn't fighting in matches or taking jobs in or out of the whorehouses, Dyana continues to spend most of her time with her family even now after she's up and moved out of the family home to rent her own small flat in the heart of the city. At least one of her brothers is always present at each of her fights, and the four of them all come together every Sunday evening for dinner at their father's house - where the youngest, Dylan, still lives.

Character in Play:

The noise of the crowd, the heat of the room, the intensity of the fight, the sweat dripping down her nose.. fuck it was intoxicating. Her heart was beating in her ears, a steady, hard thrum - a beat for her to follow as she ducked, jabbed, wove and rolled before launching herself at the man she was facing off against. He was lean and fast - and fuck did he hit hard, she had a cut on her lip that wasn't going to stop bleeding anytime soon and she could already feel her ribs bruising. Still, Dyana could hit hard too and she wasn't the only one who'd taken hits.

He was faltering, he didn't have as much endurance as she did, and he was favoring his left side. The Prince knew his weakness. He was covering it well - but that wasn't going to stop her.

Left, down, take a hit to the shoulder and move into it - take another to the back and... there!

With a grunt of a snarl, Dyana jabbed her elbow back right into the weak spot she'd carved out earlier with several hits from her knee and a firm kick or two. He gasped, then crumpled to the ground and she used the momentum to drive him down harder and shove him away so that he crashed with a flourish - the crowd going wild.

1...2..3..

The Prince lay there, in pain, struggling for breath, as Dyana stumbled back with a bloody grin around her mouthguard. She wanted to look at the crowd, but she kept her eyes on her foe, lest he rise.

..9..10!

He was down, and she had won. Grinning broadly she lifted her arms and faced the crowd as they cheered. She winked, she waved, and she sought out a familiar face. It only took a moment - he was right where she'd last seen him, right before she stepped into the fighting space, as he sighed and asked her why she liked to fight so much. Her younger brother Aydin was by far the gentlest soul she'd ever met - and some of her more intense fights made him a bit green in the gills, but he was still here. That meant the world to her.

The younger Warlord raised a hand, indeed looking a bit pale, but he was smiling as she came over to him. "Nice fight sis. Now, please - please - can we get you to a Healer. Your face looks like it got a bit too intimate with an elephant's foot."

Dyana barked a laugh, which made her wheeze a bit and wince in pain, but she threw her arm over his shoulders and took out her mouth guard, vanishing it. "Cash first, then Healer. Then drinking!"

Now he laughed. "Yeah, yeah. First round is on me. A thank you for not getting dead."

To that Dyana only grinned and winked, because he knew better than that. Nothing could kill her - she was far too stubborn for that.
